Ideas and feedback welcome.#The core idea behind this AU is that LWJ goes to study with the Yunmeng Jiang sect instead of JC and WWX going to Cloud Recess #But why? Well I imagine Lan Xichen set it up to give LWJ a challenge (more social than skill based) and LWJ rose to it (begrudgingly)#Sort of a 'You've mastered so many Lan techniques but Other Sects have styles that are worth learning.' set up.#Lan Qiren agrees mostly on the basis that...well it's LWJ. Yunmeng Jiang is unruly but LWJ is beyond that riff-raff. He'll rise above it.#This is the story of a boy who thrives on routine and rules spending time in a place that is his apparent antithesis.#Also it is so warm there. He is used to it being cold and what do you MEAN just take off some of my layers?#I just want to see him struggle and flail in many situations. And get him in Jiang Purple. Is that so wrong of me?#(Soaking wet JC is part of my 'JC was born to swim; forced to hold a sword' agenda. I experimented with wei wuxian having airbender arrows here but the jury’s still out on whether I’ll integrate them into his design. Thoughts?

listen. i like a good “hualian adopts wwx” au as much as the next guy. but do y’all ever think abt the fact that appearance wise. xie lian and hua cheng are supposedly like. 17-19

i forget about it until i’m consciously reminded of it but there’s comedic potential in there somewhere

The donghua adding in that Lan Wangji was waiting for Wei Wuxian to come back from the dead low key makes him look like an insane person, but it's fun to combine with the book lore of "He spent 13 years grieving" and turn into some maladaptive coping mechanism like-

"Lwj flipped back and forth between full confidence that wwx would come back and crushing despair over wwx just being dead. He collected alcohol for wwx to gift on return, but the only thing stopping lwj from just consuming it himself and getting alcohol poisoning was that he had to stay together enough to raise their son. Lwj incorporated wwx's ideologies and inventions into the Lan students teachings and worked tirelessly to make the world a better place, but could never simply enjoy the results as he was still waiting for the one he wants to show it off too (even if he's kept up at night knowing wwx will probably never see any of it). His hope that wwx could come back only made their time apart hurt more and made it so he was unable to move on"

I hold this story very dear, because I loved the monstrous way the merpeople are described and how they view humans as all weird and deformed for like not having webbed fingers. Pure comedy gold and good for Wangxian for still being so much into each other. Excerpt: On their wedding night, Lan Zhan knocked out at nine p.m. Humans are so odd. They need to sleep for roughly a third of the day or they stop functioning optimally. Wei Wuxian doesn’t get how their species survived that long, spending so much time unaware of their surroundings. Much better to sleep the normal way, in quick intervals throughout the day. He didn’t only notice Lan Zhan’s strategic mind and considerate habits and strong fighting skills during the war. He also noticed that Lan Zhan was… kind of cute. For a human. It was a weird thought to have. Objectively, humans are strange looking. For one thing, they aren’t iridescent anywhere on their bodies. There’s no real luster to them, but they’re not velvety-matte, either. Just kind of dull. Plus, humans have those creepy multicolored eyes. And their fingers are all… separated from one another. Flayed-looking. And they have weird little teeth.
