I said I would use tumblr more and then I ignored it all week!
Life update??
I just moved house this month with Luke and we’ve been busy assembling furniture and unpacking and also cleaning our old flat. I haven’t had much time for fandom or drawing but in a week or so I want to pick up my pencil again.
I also finally got promoted to Senior at work last month after many years of working towards it. I kept getting handed off to different managers as the projects I worked on changed and I’m so happy to finally be considered a senior UI. I have been a midweight for a very long time.
I’m not sure what’s next for me. I want to get more prints ready and maybe make some new ones. I want to draw my OCs again, I want to draw Zelda ! I’m not sure. I should probably return to basics and do some tutorials too since I am self-taught and there are massive gaps in my knowledge and experience.
I also want to finish my Owl City portrait because I need to practise realism more, I just hit a wall with the lighting but the solution is to knuckle down, start the colours over and try again I guess
Tumblr media
For now I’m relaxing a bit with Tears of the Kingdom and settling into our house. It’s been a very stressful month but I’m starting to feel a lot happier than I have for a couple years. Since quarantine I didn’t leave our flat much and was almost always stuck to my desk. Now we have a little garden and a separate room for work so there’s a better work-life balance here.
I will try and use tumblr and check my dashboard more. I will probably not be the most active poster but I’ll make more of an effort. Hope you’re all doing well too and sorry for all the things I might have missed on here.
Oh and THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT THE ARTBOOK! I keep forgetting to say that but I’m so grateful 😭

Random BOTW Headcanon: Link is a Child Prodigy™
So this was inspired by a post of Hunter from the Owl House and how quickly he learned how to use Luz's walkie-talkie after just watching her use it. It said Hunter was a 'child prodigy' for a reason.
And after reading that I was like "Haha! That's just like Link with the Sheikah Slate, I think :)" AND THEN I REALIZED.
Yeah so can we talk about how quickly Link learns how to use the Sheikah Slate??? It's probably for game reasons but Link immediately learns how to use it on the pedestals after Zelda just tells him to.
Tumblr media
Link was literally asleep for 100 years, just wakes up, and immediately uses this thing like an ipad kid with a new device.
Not to mention Link hasn't even touched that thing before, even 100 years ago. Even if he 'learned' how it worked by watching Zelda use it, he has fucking amnesia. There's not a single thing in Hyrule that's remotely close to the Slate, yet Link learned how to use it in a matter of minutes.
Link doesn't even need to be told in order to figure out how to use the drippy pedestals in the towers and shrines and stuff. He probably recognized it after seeing it in the SOR once. And that's not even mentioning how he quickly learns how to use the runes mind you!
Yeah that sounds like 'genius child prodigy' behavior to me.
This headcanon isn't even far-fetched. Link apparently learned how to swordfight when he was about an adolescent, and surpassed all other knights in Hyrule, eventually becoming a Champion. Link isn't even 18 yet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally read any of Link's entries from the Creating A Champion Artbook and you'll see what I mean.
Seriously, THIRTEEN YEARS OLD??? That not only puts Zelda to shame but EVERY FIGHTER IN HYRULE TO SHAME. Link. Honey. I love you but please turn down the main characterness for the sake of all of us, thank you.
That being said, I know Link isn't really meant to be such an in-depth character, but I kinda want him to have a 'Golden Guard to Hunter' arc where he begins to doubt himself.
I really want to see him have some sort of downfall. Not every child stays a genius forever, and eventually they learn the tolls that comes with being 'gifted'
But even if Nintendo won't do it. Hey. Fandom. I know it's been 5 years since BOTW. But we have POTENTIAL here!!!
Anyways that it's lol. Link is a gifted kid golden child prodigy. That's canon. Ok bye.

Things about the Owl House that I wish would exist (spoilers season 2 warning) :
1) A 9 chapters comic book filled with 180-225 pages about the coven heads, their backstories, and everything about them.
2)Luz's journal, where we learns tons of things about the lore and how she discovered the isles with more details, some off screen shenanigans with Eda, King, and her friends, and it would go from her first day in the BL to whatever the hell happen in the end of season 3, including fluffy adventures in the human realm (ESPECIALLY if there's a time skip). Anything happening from this point would feel bittersweet given the circumstances, but I'll take any fluff I can at this point, even if tainted with a lot of angst and trauma. Also it would be a big journal. Big book. Big baby. I suppose very pricey. But very cool. Hard cover and all.
3) Philipp's journal would be pointless because it's full of lies (I'd still buy it though, you know, for the records), but how about Caleb's journal ? So we can have the full story of everything that happened until his death from his point of view ! We don't know much about him after all, like, he only appeared in some paintings from Belos memories, but it could be a way to know more about how was the relationship between the brothers, and how went their first years on the isles. And also how the portal door was created. And Flapjack's birth. And eventual confirmation of the "Clawthorn's ancestor" theory. So cool stuff. Any parallel with Hunter would hurt as hell though. Wait... what if... What if Philipp used his brother journal to write about and study grimwalkers? Like... He needed his own journal to put him as some kind of hero, so no way he would mention killing his own bro in his journal. But Caleb's journal is there and Philipp needs paper anyway. So he decides to use it. Imagine, you're reading about some guy that discovered a new world, grew out of his puritan education, and make out with a witch, and near the end, some notes about how he's worried about his little brother and he's going to talk to him. And then it just stop, the next few pages are from a different handwriting, and aren't about the wonders of the BI anymore... But about some insane guy who was so salty about his brother not sharing his opinion, he decided to make a new one in order to fix him after killing the original. Would be messed up. But cool.
4)A comic book, with a more GF lost legends vibe, about several backstories and sidestories, like Hooty origins story, Steve and Math being bros, Hexside when the adults were kids, the beach episode, Luz teaching human stuff to Gus, some Vee and Camila slice of life... And anything that the season 3 cut stole. And more !
5) An artbook. Named The Art of The Owl House. Concept arts, storyboards, early concepts, deleted scenes, colorscripts, awesome illustrations, doodles from the crew, I want to see it all.
6) Hunter's funny socks.

* Uncharted territory awaits you, for better or worse... Full Album (Part A) / Reddit Post Full Album (Part B) / Reddit Post This part was a HUGE undertaking, and I got a lot of help putting it all together. I’d like to give a quick shoutout to some of the folks who assisted in bringing this town to life. Here’s a list of who did what! Me - Octopus NPC, duck NPC, derpy business fish NPC (based on an artbook npc), the main tileset for the town, including the buildings, statue, many of the objects in a certain room during Part B. Overworld sprites for a certain old timer, along with his talksprites. The entire script besides Spout and the new weapons shop. All of the mapping. Deka/Ilumm - Owl NPC Leo/Spouting - Spout the spider merchant + the base for Spout’s shop. He also wrote Spout’s dialogue. His AU is at @ut-sudden-changes. Consider this a little cameo as thanks for past contributions. 441 - The new shopkeeper, shop background, the entire script for the shop. His AUs are @altereddestinyau and @undermythau. FMS - The spooky fence in one of the rooms, a certain hug sprite, finishing touches on Itsy & Bitsy. His AU is @ut-tantamount. E-Clare - The shell for a certain chap that I worked on, refinements on the house that MK is standing next to, the gazebo in part 24B. Clare is the sprite artist for @ut-scramble-saga! PineappleWithSunglasses - Basically all the other NPCs. He gave me a TON. The rock people, the clam and fishman guard, the lamp ghoul, the two kids, the dentist and the hairdresser, seaweed salesman, treasure turtle, and loch ness monster. He was a tremendous help in filling the town with distinct NPCs. His AU is @ut-metal-and-magic. TheTrueRyan - The water tiles used in the various rooms. There were other NPCs planned, but I ran out of space and intend to use them later. If you’re new to Inverted Fate, you can find a full list of chapters here! More misc commentary under the cut. I recommend waiting until  after you’ve read the update before looking at it, as there WILL be spoilers for this part.
Forgespring was a relatively late addition to my Waterfall plans, but one I’d been toying with in some way or form for a while. I wanted to give a chance to flesh out the Waterfall area and explore how the civilians live there under the shadow of the Waterfall Incident and under the fort’s protection. I was inspired by the unused crystal and mining tilesets in the original game, thus came the idea that the buildings would be adorned with crystals. Forgespring lack’s Snowdin’s Holo-Sky and Hotland’s media and technology. While it has some technical innovations, it is very much a place of natural beauty, so the monsters interweave it into their homes and their lifestyles. Mining is one of the primary careers there, along with trade, in part due to the crystals and in part due to the dump’s close proximity. If I had infinite time, I would have gladly showcased more businesses, but in the interest of not having too much padding, I just focused on a few examples, like Spout’s Itsy & Bitsy shop, Masa’s Weapon and Armor shop, and the dental office and hair salon respectively. Spout’s shop interior will be shown in a bonus, by the way! I just felt that having two shops in a single update would have been too much, so I opted to go with the more relevant of the two for the main part.
Tumblr media
I’m sure when a lot of people saw Masa for the first time, they thought he was related to Undyne. My goal was to have a bit more fish people in the town, as Toby had intended to do just that, according to the artbook, and I felt that a town in Waterfall would need some aquatic residents. With the fort so close, having a blacksmith seemed like a logical step, and 441 went wild in bringing this fellow to life. NPC-wise, we got the fishfolk, one clam NPC, an octopus, another goofy fish, an Aaron and a Woshua, a turtle and a plesiosaur... and then a bunch of other oddball NPCs. Here is the full set of NPCs pine created!
Tumblr media
The rock monsters seemed like a logical inclusion due to the mines and crystals that fill Waterfall, and Pine felt that there is a severe lack of rock folk outside of the Ruins. I thought his idea of a rock monster being sculpted was really creative. Some of the less aquatic folk may have simply migrated to Forgespring out of a desire to be safe under the guard’s protection. If I ever go back and show more businesses, I’ll likely add more royal guards as well as a mix of civilians. There’s just only so much you can show without derailing things entirely. For the curious, the royal guards shown here were the fishman, clam guard, Cala Merry the weapon-obsessed Octopus, and the unnamed owl NPC (on vacation).
Tumblr media
Now, you were all probably surprised to see these doofuses return! If you’re wondering why they’re hanging in Waterfall, they took a ride with the Riverperson because they didn’t wanna hang in the heat for too long... or near where Snowdrake’s dad is. They will be appearing again later, however! As for the graveyard itself, I couldn’t have gone over every object without padding the part out to hell and back. There are thirty-nine unique objects. I will probably do a full investigation later on as a bonus, however, so you can learn why the heck there is a “ceremonial drinking bowl” and a freaking refrigerator as graves. :P Anyhow, that’s all for now. I’ll let the rest of the update speak for itself!

I wanted to take my time and try to narrow down my favorite book releases for each year of the last decade, which meant this post is only now ready to share!  As you can see that kinda worked and each year has anywhere from 5-10 featured favorites depending on how much I felt like the titles NEEDED to be on my list for the year either because of the impact of the story or just how well written it was.
These are all books that were released in the year, but I didn’t get them all read the year they came out.  That made more sense to me, hopefully it does for you as well 🙂  I almost didn’t include sequels on this list, but then I decided there were too many good ones!
Disclaimer: About half way through making this list and the graphics, I realized that I might not have the original release year for some of these, but instead the release year for a later edition.  Please excuse any mistakes related to this error as I’m too lazy to go back and redo all that work!
2010
2010 was a good year for graphic novels as three of my featured five are that format.  The Saga of Rex is absolutely stunning and magnificent, so definitely track down a copy of that one to read or snuggle.  Return to Labyrinth‘s final volume released this year, and I quite liked the revisit and exploration of old and new characters.  Another great conclusion was Keys to the Demon Prison.  And I loved this story line for Gotham City Sirens.  Just not the fact that they didn’t finish releasing the trade paperback versions to finish out the series.  I love me some Mercy Thompson, and Silver Borne was a lovely entry in the series.
2011
This year I included several sequels that I particularly enjoyed, Blackveil, Eona, and Late Eclipses as well as some series starters.  Tiger’s Curse was quite interesting and excited me and my friends.  I learned a lot about writing styles and telling stories with Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke & Bone.  Then a little slice of Dungeons & Dragons hit me with the super fun Brimstone Angels, and I’ve been devouring the series since I started it last year.
2012
Venom in Her Veins is an awesome stand alone that my husband clued me in on.  And I’ve recently shared Of Giants and Ice with my friends’ foster son, and he’s loving it.  Keeper of the Lost Cities and Libriomancer are both great series starters for series that I’ve fallen behind on.  I finally finished the series started by Cinder in 2019, and Lesser Evils contains a magic library and talking book!  Dollhouse‘s graphic novel helped close some of the gaps left by its abrupt TV show cancellation while Days of Blood & Starlight filled holes while introducing new ones.  And Enchanted started a fun series that I believe was cancelled by the publisher after book three.
2013
I’m not sure if I just didn’t read as many 2013 new releases as other years or if it wasn’t a good year for me.  We did get some fun fairy tale retellings/spinoffs in The Storybook of Legends and The School for Good and Evil.  I discovered a new-to-me superhero to fangirl over, who’s never used for anything fun with Amethyst.  Night of Cake & Puppets was utter perfection as both a book and an audiobook.  And my favorite dystopia from that era is The Testing, which is both clever and a great trilogy.
2014
Another scant year for favorites, but they are pretty high on my list.  The Unfairest of Them All and A Wonderlandiful World finished a marvelous trilogy and I wish it was longer.  Cress was a great book three and left me worried about finishing the last book in the series.  The Rift showed that Avatar the Last Airbender is just as much fun as a comic as a TV show (even though I wish there was more animation!)  And Rat Queens felt like an epic D&D quest but with a cast of all ladies!
2015
This was the year of starting good series but then not finishing them.  I do plan on getting back to the world of both Air Awakens and Storm Siren, but after reading the sequel to Red Queen, I dropped that series from my TBR.  The Dead House and Castle Hangnail were incredible standalones.  Of Enemies and Endings was a fantastic finale to one of my favorite fairy tale crossover/fractures in MG.  I think Queen of Shadows might be my favorite from Sarah J. Maas’ first series.  And I couldn’t resist adding the artbook for Crimson Peak and the illustrated Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to my list!
2016
So hard to choose!!!! So many absolutely amazing books were released this year that I had a very hard hard limiting myself to just ten.  Let’s start with MG and YA releases.  Shadow Magic and Three Dark Crowns took a unique look at some dark tropes.  While The Shadow Queen was everything I wanted from the Snow White and the Huntsman movie.  A Court of Mist and Fury helped me understand some of my own darker emotions, and Truthwitch examined a variety of relationships that can shape your life.  The Queen of Blood felt like it was written for adult fans of Tamora Pierce.  Nevernight had more layers than expected as did Monstress.  And The Aeronaut’s Windlass and A Promise of Fire were clever, fun adventures.
2017
This was the year of awesome new-to-me authors or less marketed series, which includes Terminal Alliance, The Crowns of Croswald, The Alchemists of Loom, and Scion of the Fox.  Roar and Nevermoor were both great hypes of the year.  As was the follow-up to Nevernight, Godsgrave, which was somehow better than the first one.  And I fell in love with the art and stories found in The Tea Dragon Society, Not Quite Narwhal, and Blue Eyes & the Beastling.
2018
There were some great graphic novels this year, including Aquicorn Cove, Sanity & Tallulah, and The Ghost, the Owl.  Navigating the Stars and The Hazel Wood represented YA with quirks as Sightwitch gave us another glimpse into the Witchlands mythos.  Kingdom of Ash brought us to the end of Aelin’s story, which was both heart-rending and satisfactory for the most part.  And I discovered a fun, independent urban fantasy author with Three Mages and a Margarita.
2019
And, finally, we come to last year, which was a rich year full of amazing stories, and I did a pretty good job of posting reviews for most of these titles!  In an Absent Dream, Darkdawn, Two Witches and a Whiskey, and Bloodwitch did an excellent job expanding their series.  Gideon the Ninth, Steel Crow Saga, Crown of Feathers, and Kingdom of Exiles all promise series full of fantastic adventures.  Sorcery of Thorns and Mooncakes were both great slices of worlds that I’d like to explore more of but are great standalones.
Whew!  That was quite the epic list.  I hope you found some of your favorites on the list and maybe even picked up a few more for your TBR.  Let me know about either in the comments below!
A Decade of Books in Review: 2010-2019 I wanted to take my time and try to narrow down my favorite book releases for each year of the last decade, which meant this post is only now ready to share!
