Full list of drink price increases as tax hikes hit this weekend
The Government is set to increase the cost of certain alcoholic drinks this weekend. As of Saturday, February 1, a tax hike will cause wines and spirits with a higher alcohol content to become more expensive. The duty was initially implemented on August 3, 2023, but the previous Conservative government put a temporary pause on it. Alcohol tax will rise in accordance with the Retail Price IndexâŚ

Research Discovers Ancient Egyptian Mummies Smell Nice
At first whiff, it sounds repulsive: sniff the essence of an ancient corpse.
But researchers who indulged their curiosity in the name of science found that well-preserved Egyptian mummies actually smell pretty good.
âIn films and books, terrible things happen to those who smell mummified bodies,â said Cecilia Bembibre, director of research at University College Londonâs Institute for Sustainable Heritage. âWe were surprised at the pleasantness of them.â
âWoody,â âspicyâ and âsweetâ were the leading descriptions from what sounded more like a wine tasting than a mummy sniffing exercise. Floral notes were also detected, which could be from pine and juniper resins used in embalming.
The study published Thursday in the Journal of the American Chemical Society used both chemical analysis and a panel of human sniffers to evaluate the odors from nine mummies as old as 5,000 years that had been either in storage or on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
The researchers wanted to systematically study the smell of mummies because it has long been a subject of fascination for the public and researchers alike, said Bembibre, one of the reportâs authors. Archeologists, historians, conservators and even fiction writers have devoted pages of their work to the subject â for good reason.
Scent was an important consideration in the mummification process that used oils, waxes and balms to preserve the body and its spirit for the afterlife. The practice was largely reserved for pharaohs and nobility and pleasant smells were associated with purity and deities while bad odors were signs of corruption and decay.
Without sampling the mummies themselves, which would be invasive, researchers from UCL and the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia were able to measure whether aromas were coming from the archaeological item, pesticides or other products used to conserve the remains, or from deterioration due to mold, bacteria or microorganisms.

âWe were quite worried that we might find notes or hints of decaying bodies, which wasnât the case,â said Matija StrliÄ, a chemistry professor at the University of Ljubljana. âWe were specifically worried that there might be indications of microbial degradation, but that was not the case, which means that the environment in this museum, is actually quite good in terms of preservation.â
Using technical instruments to measure and quantify air molecules emitted from sarcophagi to determine the state of preservation without touching the mummies was like the Holy Grail, StrliÄ said.
âIt tells us potentially what social class a mummy was from and and therefore reveals a lot of information about the mummified body that is relevant not just to conservators, but to curators and archeologists as well,â he said. âWe believe that this approach is potentially of huge interest to other types of museum collections.â
Barbara Huber, a postdoctoral researcher at Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology in Germany who was not involved in the study, said the findings provide crucial data on compounds that could preserve or degrade mummified remains. The information could be used to better protect the ancient bodies for future generations.
âHowever, the research also underscores a key challenge: the smells detected today are not necessarily those from the time of mummification,â Huber said. âOver thousands of years, evaporation, oxidation, and even storage conditions have significantly altered the original scent profile.â
Huber authored a study two years ago that analyzed residue from a jar that had contained mummified organs of a noblewoman to identify embalming ingredients, their origins and what they revealed about trade routes. She then worked with a perfumer to create an interpretation of the embalming scent, known as âScent of Eternity,â for an exhibition at the Moesgaard Museum in Denmark.
Researchers of the current study hope to do something similar, using their findings to develop âsmellscapesâ to artificially recreate the scents they detected and enhance the experience for future museumgoers.
âMuseums have been called white cubes, where you are prompted to read, to see, to approach everything from a distance with your eyes,â Bembibre said. âObserving the mummified bodies through a glass case reduces the experience because we donât get to smell them. We donât get to know about the mummification process in an experiential way, which is one of the ways that we understand and engage with the world.â

âToday the United States launched a trade war against Canada, their closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they are talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, a lying, murderous dictator. Make that make sense,â a visibly angry Trudeau said. Trump imposed tariffs against Washingtonâs three biggest trading partners, drawing immediate retaliation from Mexico, Canada and China and sending financial markets into a tailspin. Just after midnight, Trump put 25% taxes, or tariffs, on Mexican and Canadian imports, though he limited the levy to 10% on Canadian energy. âWhat he wants to see is a total collapse of the Canadian economy because that will make it easier to annex us,â Trudeau said. âThat is never going to happen. We will never be the 51st state.â [...]
The premier of Ontario, Canadaâs most populous province, said that he would issue a 25% export tax on electricity sold to the U.S. and may later cut it off completely if the American tariffs persist. Ontario powered 1.5 million homes in the U.S. in 2023 in Michigan, New York and Minnesota. Ontario Premier Doug Ford also told The Associated Press that he would stop the sale of nickel and rare minerals to the U.S. Ontario and other provinces already began removing American liquor brands from government store shelves. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario sells nearly $1 billion Canadian dollars ($687 million) worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers every year.
A government official said Lutnick called Ford after Fordâs press conference and asked him to stand down. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the call, said Ford told the U.S. commerce secretary heâll go harder.
I fucking hate this timeline &c. &c.

Especially by our southern siblings.#Canada has a complex relationship with the literality of the US as well as the US on a more existential level.#and I've never seen this amount of anger channeled in one direction before. like we don't do Up In Arms as a country#but we're off to the races now eh

OC Meme: Angel "Rook" de Riva
GENERAL
Name: Angel de Riva
Alias(es): Rook
Gender: Male (Trans)
Age: 20
Place of birth: Somewhere in Tevinter
Spoken languages: Trade and some Antivan, on top of basic Elvhen.
Sexual orientation: Pansexual
Occupation: Veilguard Leader, Crow Assassin
FAVOURITE
Colour: Blue, the color of Viago's eyes.
Entertainment: He loves watching Viago work on his poisons and also naming them, he loves puns and so does Viago.
Pastime: He enjoys drinking, sparring, sex and frankly, he enjoys the Crow contracts - he gets to dish out violence and it's justified.
Food: Even though he doesn't know how to cook many things, he knows the basic to not starve. Does not enjoy wasting food, will eat anything as long it's minimally edible (unlike most people, he likes Harding's cooking).
Drink: Loves coffee (dark cherry blend is his favorite) and loves distilled spirits, hates wine (thinks it takes too many wine glasses to get drunk).
Books: Read functional books while he was studying with the Crows, but isn't particularly fond of reading. He does pick a novel up when Lucanis starts to talk excitedly about it, however.
HAVE THEY
Passed university: He's a full fledged Crow, 8 years until he graduated and received (in my Antidote AU, Crows receive a Crow dagger for their graduation) his graduation gift.
Had sex: With more women than he can count, less than 5 men in total. But he's definitely been around and treated sex like a sport.
Had sex in public: Yes, but it was forced.
Gotten tattoos: His mother had her Vallasin, but that was from a life with a Dalish clan before she met his father and ran away with him. Angel has tattoos, but they're self-inflicted almost, except for his Crow tattoo on his right calf of an Adder.
Gotten piercings: Pierced ears with a cross earring and simple hoop earrings on the upper part of his ear.
Had a broken heart: Twice. Both were Crow men.
Been in love: Thrice. Only 2 times went well for Angel.
ARE THEY
A cuddler: He's fond of physical touch, yes, but he associates most of it to sex. So when Lucanis is hesitant to even cuddle with Angel, he's frustrated and confused.
Scared easily: Fear keeps him grounded, but sometimes his anxiety takes over and he's a mess. He usually bottles it up until it explodes.
Jealous easily: He's jealous when it comes to affection, but not in a toxic way. He's poly, even though in my universe, he doesn't name it. He's fine with Viago having a relationship with Teia and would be fine if Lucanis wanted a relationship with another person.
Trustworthy: He tends to lie often to hide his feelings, but he is a trustworthy person. He's loyal to the people he's committed to.
FAMILY
Sibling(s): None. His mother would've never had him if she had the choice.
Parents: His father sold him to the Crows after Angel accidentally killed his mother. She hated him because he was a constant reminder of the Dalish Clan she left behind. She resented him and tried to kill him with a kitchen knife. Angel was faster. His father dies of old age while Angel is away in his exile, he inherits the family house.
Children: Angel gets pregnant once during the Antidote AU and Viago helps him with a poison, an abortion of sorts. Caterina doesn't accept the fact that Angel won't give her an heir, but Lucanis is firm in saying they can adopt. They adopt a little boy in the future called Diego.
Pets: He doesn't have his own space just yet to have pets, but he's amenable to having cats and snakes (Viago and Lucanis already have a pet snake each, he doesn't mind, thinks they're cute).
I will tag some people, just because this is fun af.

Element: Water
Zodiac: Scorpio & Sagittarius

Colors: Blues, grey, sea green & silver
Energy: Deity communication, cooperation, death, divination, focus, passion, healing, preparation, secrets, sex matters, taking root & transformations.
The Beaver Moon gets its name because it is the time of year when beavers begin to take shelter in their lodges, having laid up sufficient food stores for the long winter ahead. During the fur trade in North America, it was also the season to trap beavers for their thick, winter-ready pelts.Â
Other celebrations:
⢠Lunantishees
November 11th
Also known as: The day of the Sidhe
This day celebrates the Lunantishee Faeries & honors the sacred blackthorn tree that they protect. It is said these faeries dance around their host blackthorn tree or bush by the light of the full moon in which they worship. The Lunantishee are closely associated with moonstone as their name of Moon-Sidhe or moon faeries suggest. These faeries are intensely protective guardians who highlight to us the need to protect our homes & our personal energies/ourselves.
In some traditions people would leave offerings like cakes, milk, honey or ale to avert any mischievous behavior from the faeries & if you had a blackthorn tree leave blackthorn blessings upon you.
During this time it is advised to not pick, cut or prune these plants under any circumstances or else misfortune would be placed upon them.
â˘Night of Hecate
November 16th
Though many choose to honor the Goddess Hecate during this day, there doesn't seem to be any historical evidence suggesting this particular day has any traditional associations or events & likely was mistaken from Hekate's Deipnon which takes place during the dark phase of the moon. However modern practitioners use this day to honor Hekate despite this.
Some celebrate by having a feast filled with wine, mushrooms, bread & more while also leaving some at the threshold of their front door to symbolize the crossroads between indoors and outdoors.

Uat-Ur
Uat-Ur was the ancient Egyptian name for the Mediterranean Sea (also known as Wadj-Wer) and is translated as 'the Great Green'. Uat-Ur was understood as a living entity imbued with the spirit of the divine which, like all other aspects of the natural world, was a gift from the gods.
Uat-Ur was the sea itself, not a god of the sea, but was sometimes pictured as a male with breasts heavy for nurturing and with skin resplendent with the shimmer of rolling waves. Uat-Ur is often shown in company with images of the Nile River, linking him sympathetically with the 'mother of all men' which was one of the titles the ancient Egyptians gave to the Nile.
Egypt's Insular Culture
The Egyptians were not a great seafaring people. They were as interested in travel to foreign lands as they would have been in an earthquake. To the Egyptians, their land was a perfect world given by the gods, created from the primordial ben-ben upon which Atum first stood when dry land rose from the chaotic swirl of waters at the beginning of time.
Their god of chaos was Set (also known as Seth) who was associated with the lands beyond the boundaries of Egypt's Nile River Valley and who had as his consorts two foreign goddesses, Anat from Mesopotamia (Syria) and Astarte of Phoenicia. It was no coincidence that Set, who eventually came to be seen as the first murderer, was linked to the regions beyond Egypt's borders: the Egyptian culture was fairly xenophobic and distrusted foreigners and their influence.
Uat-Ur, therefore, did not feature prominently in Egyptian literary texts or religious writings. There are no great epics in Egyptian literature mentioning the "wine dark sea" as one finds in Homer of the Greeks. In the story of The Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor (c. 2000 BCE) the main character is a servant, not a military hero, who is simply going about his master's business of trade when he is shipwrecked on the Island of Punt and meets the Lord of Punt, a gigantic serpent. The servant is not interested in any of the magical and glorious rewards one might find on Punt because he feels that anything he wants is back home in Egypt.
The Lord of Punt finally releases him to go home where he tells his master all that has befallen him. The Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor perfectly epitomizes Egyptian cultural values as the main character is a common man aware of the concept of ma'at (harmony) and his duty to his social superior. When he reaches the Island of Punt he observes the same protocol he would back in his homeland with the significant difference of refusing to accept the Lord of Punt's offers of generosity. Whatever this foreign lord has to offer him, he knows, cannot compare with what he has left behind in Egypt.

Imma need 4, 5,and Curveball 58 for all the OCs you listed!
Oooh- thank you for these!!
đş - Thoughts on alcohol?
OisĂn: Idk if they've ever had an alcohol before... all I can say though is that they aren't a fan of being around people who are more than a little tipsy. Makes them uncomfy.
Emil: Wine is often used in religious practices, and that's largely his association with it. He doesn't mind the taste though.
RenĂŠ: ...is a bartender. Alcohol is largely a tool to get people to spill information- consensually of course.
Kingsley: It sure exists. It sure is a thing. And like... when he's older, he'll drink when its considered in good practice to do so- like events and whathaveyou. But otherwise, he doesn't really care for it.
XiĂĄng: He's not allowed to have any until his curse is broken. Thems the rules.
Sefu: They seem indifferent to it. Either that or they are being tight lipped about their opinions.
Vex: Their feelings are complicated. Alcohol is often used in social situations and can be largely harmless. But people also do dangerous things when too intoxicated. People also can be incredibly hostile when intoxicated. So... it makes for a complicated matter.
âď¸ - Favorite creative endeavors?
OisĂn: Their writing! That's where they put all their thoughts and feelings.
Emil: Besides cooking, definitely embroidery and darning. He really loves using textile mediums to create beautiful things. (He also loves singing and dancing but thats a hush hush secret.)
RenĂŠ: Dance. It's the one place where they truly feel free to be their authentic self.
Kingsley: Whittling. He likes to carve little statues out of wood he hinds on his walks.
XiĂĄng: Music. He loves playing his erhu. He feels connected with himself, with others, and with the spirits of nature when he plays his erhu. It's his entire heart and soul.
Sefu: No, Sefu... kick boxing and murder aren't answers. You have to come up with something else.
Vex: Roleplaying games and narrative creation (specifically oral story-telling). They love to come up with and explore little make believe scenarios with their friends.
đ¨ - Handy skills?
OisĂn: I feel like this is a difficult question to answer. The reason being is that you have to consider that OisĂn starts their journey as a soldier and assassin, capable of surviving in the forest for a long period of time. This implies they have the ability to handle their nightmares (the fae steeds), are able to start fires and cook (even if just barely), are able to navigate the woods--- the list goes on. But then you also consider that during their time at NRC, they learn about technological creation and electrical engineering. They learn about coding. They make their own monitors and they make their own neck corset. Over the course of their long life, they learn to do a lot of things. To what extent they are "good" at them varies from situation to situation.
Emil: If you don't count cooking, then darning, mending, and weaving. He is able to patch up any sort of hole in fabric pretty darn well (pun intended) and he will make it look good while he's doing it. He also is excellent at herbalism and alchemy, which translates into gardening and plant cultivation.
RenĂŠ: I'm actually not sure if they have any handy skills! Most of their skills are in athletics, studying, and social situations.
Kingsley: So we've got hunting/fishing, minor amounts of blacksmithing, whittling/carving, knotting, blade sharpening... i think that covers it? I think that covers it.
XiĂĄng: He's really great at following instructions when he feels like it. Does that count????
Sefu: Tracking, hunting, blade sharpening... you're making me wonder if their family has a specific trade now, given what we know of the Sunset Savanna? And now you are forcing me to comsider giving them more depth.
Vex: Again, I'm not certain they have any. They unfortunately spent a good portion of their life sheltered and having people do things for them. She wants to learn though!!

Gods of Antiquity: Trickster Deities
Source: https://garystockbridge617.getarchive.net/amp/media/zacharie-noterman-the-trickster-5aa506
Trickster deities are a part of many mythologies around the world. For a deity to be considered a trickster, it must have certain characteristics, they must be 'fundamentally ambiguous and anomalous, [a] deceiver and trick-player, [a] shape-shifter or master of disguise, [a] situation inverter, [a] messenger and imitator of the gods, [a] sacred and lewd bricoeur [a tinker or fix-it person, noted for ingenuity in transforming anything at hand in order to form a creative solution]'. They 'violate priciples of social and natural order, playfully disrupting normal life and then re-establishing it on a new basis' by both questioning and mocking authority, resulting in disruptions to it. The cross boundaries of all kinds, including gender and species.
By Pamela Colman Smith - File:Annancy Stories - Pamela Colman Smith.pdf.
Anansi or Ananse of Akan folklore is most commonly a spider and is on of the most important characters of West African and African diaspora cultures. He originated in Ghana and spread from there via the Atlantic slave trade. While he is always depicted as male, he is called 'Aunt Nancy' and 'Sis' Nancy' in the Americas. He is usually depicted with a family of a wife, three sons, and a daughter. He is skilled and and wise in his speech. He was also seen as a symbol of slave resistance and survival among the enslaved African diaspora because of his ability to turn situations to his favor, no matter how powerful his oppressors were.

The Greeks had many trickster gods that took on various aspects of the trickster. Dionysus, the god of wine, madness, and ecstasy was a shape-shifter and androgynous, lending to his association with actors. Eris, goddess of discord, was famous (or infamous) for being the cause of the Trojan war by starting a fight between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, which was resolved by the Judgment of Paris, leading to the abduction of Helen. Hermes, the messanger of the gods, was the god of travelers, boundaries, and thieves, though he is also credited with creating the lyre to get out of trouble resulting from stealing Apollo's cattle. Pan, god of shepherds and flocks, is known for playing tricks on children for his own amusement.

Greeks also had many heroes who were tricksters. Odysseus outwitted Polyphemus by claiming to be 'no one' in order to escape. Prometheus tricked Zeus into accepting a sub-par offering and also stole fire from the gods after Zeus forbids humans from using it because of the trick. Sisyphus tricked death twice, extending his life, but angered the gods and was sentenced to pushing a bolder up a slope in Tartarus for the rest of eternity.

Many Native American people groups had a Coyote trickster. He tried to imitate the creator gods by creating people out of mud, though they became animals since Coyote didn't have the same power. He is also a messenger at times, as well as a cultural hero. He is capable of transformation, resurrection and 'medicine'. He finds sacred things for the people and also chances the course of rivers, creating new landscapes as he does. He was able to defeat Thunderbird with the 'help of the Spirit Chief'. Sometimes he is considered noble, other times malicious. He is often associated with music and capable of changing gender.

After a happy weekend in Edinburgh đ´ó §ó ˘ó łó Łó ´ó ż and a week in London đ´ó §ó ˘ó Ľó Žó §ó ż
What potential benefits did the SH team bring to the Sassenach brand by consistently offering a large number of pre-mixed cocktails for a stress-free party that coincidentally SH had prepared and shared on his Instagram months before? đ¤
How many bottles of whisky and gin were available at the event? Were the bottles sold out due to this team's tour, or did they bring them to the bar? Did the American team's tour enhance the quality of Sassenach scotch whisky or Scottish gin?

It's not easier to claim that Scotch whisky and Scottish gin taste better in Scotland. There probably won't be a noticeable change in their flavour whether you drink them neat or in cocktails. This remains true, no matter how long the American team visited SH's friends' bars in Edinburgh for a pre-arranged visit. The team flew on a plane to Edinburgh to sell Scots a brand made in Scotland at the Kimpton Boutique Charlotte Square Hotel and then show them how to prepare Scottish drinks.

SHâs American company is interested in serving SHâs American fans market. It will be interesting to see this team and their Iranian-descent business partner under SHâs wing after Outlander ends.

The alcohol industry is highly competitive, with big players dominating the market. New brands need to offer something unique to stand out. To compete in this traditional market must bring a modern perspective and a fresh approach to the sector. What does SH and his Sassenach team offer to the brand to make it stand out?

If SH is considering cracking into the UK industry, he must understand the constant turbulence in the UKâs drinks sector. Britons know very well how to update their professional awareness in trade drinks and He and his team in many instances leave much to be desired.

Posted 20th August 2024

@seakopie - Hundreds of spirit competitions are held around the world every year. However, SH is always associated with the same event annually, and for the most part, that's where his medals come from.
@blahblah-911 Yes, He pays to enter, at any competitions, but a medal doesn't mean you will automatically like something. So, The Tasting Alliance and Total Wine aim to attract people's attention by bringing SH to their show.

hello and welcome!
this blog is an AU of the greek gods. In order to punish the Gods for tormenting humanity due to godly affairs, Zeus has banished them to the mortal realm, to live like mortals. However, Athena and Hera saw this as unfair, as Zeus himself committed atrocities against humanity as well. Therefore, they worked together to banish Zeus to the mortal realm too. The Gods powers and immortality are still in tact, they are simply not allowed to live in their respective realms.
(this is not myth compliant in any way. they are my ocs, and are just loosely based on the greek gods. i rewrote most of not then all of their lore. most of them are not related due to shipping.)

On July 25th 1805 John Walker was born in Kilmarnock, nowadays remembered as Johnnie Walker, he went on to found the Johnnie Walker whisky distillery empire.
When his father Alexander died in 1820, John was left ÂŁ417 in trust. In 1820 the trustees invested in an Italian warehouse, grocery, and wine and spirits shop on King Street in Kilmarnock.
An 1852 flood destroyed virtually all of the stock Walker held, but the business recovered within a couple of years. His own whisky brand, then known as "Walker's Kilmarnock Whisky" was popular locally.
In 1833 John married Elizabeth Purves. Their son Alexander had apprenticed with a tea merchant in Glasgow, and there learned the art of blending tea. When he returned to take over the business from his ailing father, he used those skills to create Old Highland Whisky, (eventually renamed Johnnie Walker Black Label) the first of Walker's blends which became popular far beyond Ayrshire.
Although he gave his name to the whisky, John Walker was a far less important figure to the brand than his son, Alexander, as it was he who persuaded his father to abandon the narrow realm of the grocery trade and to go into wholesale trading. At the beginning, the firm offered a range of spirits: Campbeltown whisky from the Kintyre Peninsula; whisky from the Inner Hebridean Island of Islay, with its pungent smokey flavour; patent still, or grain, whisky; and "Glenlivet", Speyside whisky. Even so, whisky sales under John Walker represented just 8 percent of the firm's income; by the time Alexander was ready to pass on the company to his own sons, that figure had increased to between 90 and 95 percent.
The magnificent Johnnie Walker Bond building still stands in the town centre and has a statue of John, as seen in the picture, which does not take the form of the famous 'Striding Man' image created in the first half on the 20th Century and which is recognised the world over - along with the 'Born 1820 Still Going Strong' motto.
Sadly, the closure of the huge Johnnie Walker bottling plant in 2012, (once the world's largest) and the associate blending and bond operations in and around the town severed all links with Kilmarnock.

VALUE
Thereâs an economy bustling in the water. Vendors, shamans, and misleading mothers-in-law are its most proficient dealers. The first time I encountered them, they thought I was noble. Dubiously, they tripled the price of their goods under the assumption I could afford it. Instead, I gave them exactly what they were worthâ $2.50. I explained it would be insulting for them to receive more than they should out of âcharityâ (which is what it would be to allow their exploitation).Â
Once, one vendor sat by a bridge, giving a gift of fruit to everyone who passed by except me. This was the first time I felt concerned about the movement of value in the water. It disturbed and hurt me that the flow came to a halt when I appeared. The generous hand receded.Â
Does value move toward the abundant, like water streaming through an overflowing fountain, or is it attracted to the spaces of lower concentration, in an osmotic process?Â
My value became central to understanding value itself. The basis by which it is measured, though, is especially unclear in the water. On earth it is predictable. When value is assumed, value is given. There, signs of the valuable include beauty, material possessions, relationships, exclusivity, and refinement. Most valuable are those who bear it by birth: the blue-blooded beings. They bleed blessings. (My heart is in the wallet of one).Â
Spirits on the surface oscillate around value, climbing, clawing, crawling to consume it. Even cutting and killing. Itâs the summit they seek.Â
In water, swimming is the skill for seeking, but the coffins of wealth sleep at depths only the most daring divers will descend. âThe violence of this pressure is soul shattering.
I did not embark on a quest for value when I closed my eyes. The coins rolled right through the lines of my consciousness and carried on in their exchange. This morning, the matter was about a $200 lip balm.  A mother-in-law with bright blonde hair and a youthful glow told her daughter an exorbitant amount for the lip-balm she purchased. The daughter wished to reimburse her for it.  However, on hearing the value, she discerned her mother-in-law was lying. Upon further questioning her mother-in-law presented false and flimsy evidence in the form of a transaction screenshot on her phone, showing â$200 âSnacks.âÂ
When she failed like the vendors had, in her twisting trade, she transformed her. âForget about the lip balm, I will give you much more than that is worth!â The motherâs magic changed her daughterâs raven hair into a sweeping, layered cut that shaped itself around the warmth in her eyes. Her lips were wine. The mother, herself altered, looked more aged and elegant, with her hair pulled back into a beehive. Observing them, it appeared to me they had been renewed into their rightful roles.Â
Tarot & Astrological Symbolism:Â
The card that appeared for the traders is The Hierophant. This archetype is a bridge between God and man. In the water, he unearths layers of our hidden knowledge, excavating gems of wisdom. For me this came through tests which focused my attention on discerning value, and how to treat things in accordance with their value.Â
The Hierophantâs astrological sign is Taurus, the bull. Taurus is practical, hardworking, grounded, and prosperous (ruled by Venus). It is associated with the second house, the House of Value. This specifically has to do with personal value. Oneâs concept of what is valuable and value they develop for themselves in the material world, contrasted with the value they inherit from others. We come to have a better understanding of value as we carefully cultivate it our lives, an activity which requires us to access the troves of wealth within us, including our talents, knowledge, and wisdom from our unconscious mind. Without a well-developed and wise sense of what is valuable, we can be stuck in tiresome, terrible trades, from which we are left with a feeling of dissatisfaction. Throwing pearls before swine, stealing from others, or subjecting ourselves to being the objectified recipient of spiritually damaging offerings. For the latter, an excellent poem is Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti.Â
Selâs note:
My moment of spiritual awakening on earth was catalyzed by a tale in which a father asked his daughter to return to him the pearl necklace he had gifted her, which she adored. The child was challenged to trust that by releasing what she loved she would bear no loss. As a little girl, I begun to listen closely. When the daughter received a real pearl necklace after giving her father the fake one, I felt delight.Â
In astrology, my North Node or Rahu, which represents oneâs reason for incarnation, is in the second house, the House of Value. In some calculations, it is the third house, or the House of Communication/Sharing. It is my wish that not only myself but anyone whom I share my visions with will be able to benefit from meditation of value.Â

Premium alcoholic beverages, including high-end wines, spirits, and craft beers, are gaining traction globally as consumers increasingly prioritize quality, exclusivity, and unique experiences over quantity. Market Drivers and Trends
One of the primary drivers of the premium alcoholic beverages market is the growing demand for premiumization. Consumers are willing to pay a premium for superior quality and craftsmanship, which has fueled the growth of niche brands offering artisanal, small-batch, or limited-edition products. Millennials and Gen Z, in particular, are emerging as key demographics driving this trend. These consumer groups value authenticity and sustainability, prompting producers to focus on ethical sourcing, organic ingredients, and environmentally friendly production practices.
The rise of e-commerce and digital platforms has also significantly contributed to the market's expansion. Online channels provide easy access to premium products and offer personalized recommendations, exclusive deals, and convenience, further enhancing consumer engagement. Additionally, social media and influencer marketing have played a pivotal role in promoting premium alcoholic beverages, with brands leveraging these platforms to showcase the lifestyle and exclusivity associated with their offerings.
Another notable trend is the growing popularity of craft spirits and beers. Craft distilleries and breweries have gained immense popularity for their unique flavors and innovative approaches, appealing to consumers seeking distinct and memorable drinking experiences. Premium wine, too, has seen a surge in demand, particularly among health-conscious consumers drawn to organic and biodynamic options.
Market Segmentation
The premium alcoholic beverages market can be segmented based on product type, distribution channel, and region. By product type, the market includes premium wine, spirits, beer, and others, such as ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails. Spirits dominate the segment, with categories like whiskey, vodka, gin, and tequila leading in popularity. Whiskey, in particular, is a standout performer, driven by the global fascination with aged and rare varieties.
Distribution channels include on-trade (bars, hotels, restaurants) and off-trade (retail stores, e-commerce). While on-trade channels have historically dominated the market, the pandemic has accelerated the shift toward off-trade sales, particularly online platforms. As a result, brands are investing in digital strategies to reach consumers directly.
Challenges and Future Outlook
Despite its growth, the premium alcoholic beverages market faces challenges, including high taxes, stringent regulations, and competition from non-alcoholic and low-alcohol alternatives. Moreover, the shift toward mindful drinking and health-conscious lifestyles has led to a rise in demand for low-calorie, low-sugar, and organic options within the premium segment.
Looking ahead, the market is poised for continued growth, driven by innovation, strategic collaborations, and the expansion of e-commerce channels. Brands that prioritize sustainability, transparency, and consumer engagement are likely to gain a competitive edge. As the global demand for unique and high-quality alcoholic beverages continues to rise, the premium segment is set to redefine the landscape of the alcohol industry, delivering not just products but memorable experiences.
