there’s a morbidly hilarious disconnect between the inherent angst/tragedy of veterinary medicine and the type of names people like to give their animals. I’m afraid Mr. Wiggles has lymphoma. Tater Tot is being admitted to the ICU. I’m here to pick up Bruce Wayne’s ashes.

I ❤️ getting time-sensitive legal documents 7 weeks after they officially arrived because no one at the main office sent them on to me.

annoying therapist here asking for the second time in like a month why i dont drive. last time when i described that i dont feel comfortable with it given how wildly people drive she told me 'well everybody goes sometime, so just hope it isnt you :)' which was obviously a hoot
tonight i told her we'd had this conversation before. and she said 'remind me, i dont remember,' so i did. explained that my family was in a car accident last year (sensible, sensitive topic to get her to shut up) (did not work) she told me i have to learn to take Risks (she says to me unmasked) that she would Teach me to drive because she 'doesnt like that for me.' liiiiike hellllllllll
i aim for tact. i tell her i have other priorities right now. she says 'like what?' 'like my health.' 'oh whats wrong with your health?' begging for this conversation to end Please
i tell her i have long covid (established, easy to explain, understandably disabling to most people) and im working on finding treatment and she tells me. she says 'oh i had long covid' (past tense???) 'and what helped me was taking a zyrtec every day in the morning' GOBSMACKED, READER.
'an antihistamine is going to help with a post-viral condition?' 'yeah 😊'

the other day where i work (assisted living facility) the singing group we have there was trying to do “fly me to the moon” but the arrangement we had was sort of weird and we were kinda floundering. and our pianist said, “i guess elon musk isn’t the only one whose moon rocket didn’t get off the ground”

one thing i’ve learned about working with children this summer is that it is so important to have a favorite character from franchises you don’t care about just in case one of them asks. i know nothing about sonic outside of snapcube fandubs but if a child asks me my favorite character i tell them it is tails. my favorite transformer is bumblebee. my favorite mario character is peach (in reality mario is a franchise i Do care about and my real answer is rosalina but most of these kids only know the movie so they don’t know her. which is fair. i’m not blaming a 6 year old for not having played a wii game from a decade before they were born). my favorite bluey character is bingo. my favorite ninja turtle is donatello. my favorite fnaf animatronic is foxy. my favorite superhero is spiderman. et cetera. it makes them so happy if you see them in a tshirt from something and talk to them about it and (at least pretend to) have knowledge about the stuff they like. and all i have to do is google a list of characters and pick one at random. it literally does not matter which character because most kids won’t judge you for having basic taste or grill you about not being a Real Fan or whatever. if there’s any kids in your life i highly recommend having at least a little bit of knowledge about their possible interests because it makes them so happy when it comes up

my home depot cart yesterday; most of the plants are for work and I already installed a lot of them last night, but some of them including two of the blueberry bushes, the grape vine and one of the hibiscus saplings are for my own yard. I got a compliment on the selection by another customer! I have also officially used my business name, Desert Tortoise Landscaping, for the first time on my home depot pro account.

more than one coworker expressed deeply felt concern about the book removals at the naval academy to me & i really had to try hard with that one because i just do not care. pulling diverse books from officers' educations will make them less effective officers, and i have never in my conscious life wished for the united states military to be full of effective officers. so critical support. it is dumb as hell though

just work venting, because (Arthurfistclench.jpg)
I work at a small privately owned company, which is great in how informal and laid back it is, but holy fuck when there are problems good luck getting management to fix it timely or well. we haven't had a front desk receptionist since the 6th. We've hired and brought in 2 people since then and both quit within their first day and nobody knows why so we can fix it. the people they e been pulling to cover (me and two other people) already have massive workloads to handle that we cannot get done if we're up answering phones and helping customers.
one of those other people is off today, the other one has a half day, and managments solution was to have an electronic doorbell at the front desk for customers to ring when they come in and then we have to get up and run across the building to help. It is front and center, with a sign, AND CUSTOMERS KEEP IGNORING IT. "oh I didn't even see that" HOW.
I have a fucking migraine, I'm drowning in urgent bullshit to do, I had to give a warning talk to someone who I supervise, and I'm going to have to stay late until we close so someone is here. I'm probably just going to end up staying up there because I'm not sprinting every 10 minutes.
I have to keep a mantra going of "I've had worse than this, I have had more stressful jobs, i have handled worse, this is nothing compared to that" but holy FUCK I want to just get up and leave. I hate this so much

medical lab tests seem a lot more straightforward before you know that on the other side of those numbers there is a fiddly-ass machine with the temperament of a flighty racehorse and the reliability of a home office printer. "I can't detect the sample. oh, there's actually a blood clot in the sample, start over. also some vital piece of plastic inside me is covered in weird gunk, so you have to take me apart and clean everything. replace my reagent! clean my filter! run my quality control! restart the whole lab station! call the manufacturer! update my software! no, I can't tell the difference between bacteria and sperm, I don't even know why that matters."

The one and only downside to having been fortunate enough to take an extended amount of time off of work a while back is that now I know that simply not having to work for a living would fix like 99% of my problems. And I just have to carry that knowledge with me every day. Into work.

new resident at work is a very confused trans ally (was concerned when she heard something described as “gender affirming” because she thought it meant “upholding the gender binary” and not “respecting trans people’s identities”)
