“Could we be any more romantic?” Thomas said with a smirk. “Slow dancing on the beach?”
Tumblr media
“I did tell you that you had many talents” Althea replied, her eyes twinkling. “And being very romantic and tender to me is one of the most important.”
Tumblr media
“Well, you did marry me” Thomas said, his eyes tender. “I’m the zombie here, and you’re just a beautiful person, inside and out.”
Tumblr media
“There is more to you than being a zombie” Althea said gently. “I love you just as you are, zombie or not.”
Tumblr media
“Even if...” he paused, not wanting to ruin the mood with his own insecurities.
Tumblr media
“If?” she asked as she nuzzled into his shoulder and closed her eyes.
Tumblr media
“Nothing.”
Tumblr media
“Tell me later” she said, reading him like a book. “It’s probably not ‘nothing’ if your whole frame tenses like that.”

Words: 2698
A/N: A new series! this chapter is kind of an intro and the rest will be a more ficlet type deal. Hope you enjoy!
He stared at her with his blaster pointed at her she was the bounty, A job. But He couldn’t look away but there was something about her. Something behind her deep blue eyes look to his visor. Her blonde hair falling in two braids behind her. She knew the bounty on her was high but she knew he had to bring her alive. She hadn't seen a Mandolorian in a very long time .since she was a padawan. Althea was sure her time running from everything was coming to an end. It was just one look…one look into those eyes would forever leave an imprint on His thoughts…and the way her hair and body flowed in the light…it was too beautiful, too captivating and too distracting…it felt as his thoughts were being pulled, like a vortex…the sound of his heart was deafening.. she raised her hands in surrender.
“You've got me Mando. Ori'jate.” She congratulates him in Mando'a hoping that will calm his nerves a little. It might also get her shot. But it's a risk she's willing to take. He took a step closer the barrel of his blaster just inches from her. He could hear her heart racing, her fear was obvious but he didn’t care, he was drawn to her, he needed her… Din takes a deep breath, He puts his arm around her and presses the blaster to her neck, her body pressed up against his. She takes a deep breath trying to stop her racing heart.
“I would think twice. Whatever you're thinking.” She uses a swift motion to push her cloak aside to reveal twin lightsabers. “I'm coming with you willingly don't make me change my mind.” Din’s eyes widen and felt a surge of adrenalin flow through his veins.  He takes a slow breath and removed the blaster from her neck
“l think l should be the one telling you what to do”
“Fair enough.” Her heart beat slows. At least he wasn't going to shoot her for now. She places her hands behind her back to let him cuff her. He grabbed the restraints and snapped them onto her hands
“we will talk more on my ship, this way” he started walking towards his ship pulling her along. She follows him to the ship. Her blue eyes trained ahead as her cloak flows behind her. After running all these years she didn't think she would get caught. Much less than by one of her birth people. As they approached The Razor Crest, He leads her up the ramp, closing the ramp behind her and locking it shut, he led her up to the cockpit tossing her into one of the seats before turning to her.
“Why were you running?”
“Well it wasn't until rather recently that Jedi were being hunted down, it still isn't very safe. And I've still managed to get into trouble, a bounty on my head is a pretty good reason to be running.” She replies looking around. He takes a deep breath and then glances at her
"how did you get this bounty?"
“Mostly just trying to survive, but when you're on the run survival looks pretty illegal.” She chuckles. “So I'm guessing you're going to turn me in? The money will probably be good.”
“a bounty is a bounty” He said it so coldly it sounded like a threat
“I wasn't going to convince you otherwise. Mandalorians are true to their word and a honorable people. I would know. I was born on Mandalore.” She folds her hands in her lap and looks over at her fingernails.
“I thought the last of the true Mandalorians were dead.” He said softly he couldn’t keep his eyes off her, she was…exotic, a force user and a Mandalorian, she must have learned something from the Jedi she was around once…She doesn't look at him, she senses a rush of feelings in him
“I was taken as a youngling to learn the ways of the Jedi. Everything else I learned later, you're not the first Mandalorian I've run into.”
“So you know how to wield those lightsaber of yours?” He asked her as he started to get the ship ready to leave.
“No I just carry them around for fun.” She says sarcastically. “Of course I know how to use them. I won't. But I know how.” She looks in her lap again, biting her lip a little.
"So you're a smart ass and a force user who knows how to wield a blade" He said in a teasing tone "What is a woman like you doing out here on her own with a bounty on her head"
“Just trying to survive. Like everyone else. Look, I don't have any issues with you. You're just trying to survive like me. It's the people that want my head that will have problems.” She looks at her surroundings. “I don't think they even realize who I am. Just that I stole something from them.”
“I assume the item you stole was of value?” he asks as he starts up the Razor crest, punching in coordinates into the Navicomputer. “If someone sent bounty hunters after you it has to be something that’s more than just a simple item no?”
“Well they took my lightsabers and I took them back. I would've thought that was fair but here we are.” She shrugged.
"They stole your lightsabers? That’s pretty bold of them, if they stole your lightsabers it means they know the power of a force user...you took a risk stealing them back" l sighed "they must be valuable to you"
“That's like Jedi 101 these weapons are our lives, they symbolize everything we worked for. So yeah I got them back.” She seems cross. “I just didn't realize it was going to end up with me having a bounty on my head.” He was silent, his mind processing everything
“it’s an unusual situation, they stole from you and then hired bounty hunters for retaliation when you took them back…sounds like they were greedy and got caught in their own game…it also seems like they want you dead…are you in any rush to return to them?” As they start to make their accent into space he turns to look at her.
“Well, I'm your captive. What happens at this point is up to you.” She reminded him. She looks out the cockpit window again. Some of her hair has fallen into her face her sapphire eyes are looking out into space wondering what it holds for her at this point. Her beauty was unquestionable.
“so…it’s up to me is it..” She stays silent for a while. Her life is in his hands and she definitely doesn't know what to make of that. He'll either hand her over or he won't but she doesn't know. She doesn't know him. He's a bounty hunter and a Mandalorian. Two big unknowns in this galaxy these days. He watches her as she stared out of the cockpit window  the light from the stars outside the cockpit danced on her face.
“How about a compromise?” l spoke into the air “If you would like to stay with me until we make it to my next bounty..I will pay you a large sum of credits. So you could continue your life and your adventures…you just have to leave your lightsabers with me…”
“Copaani mirshmure'cye, vod?”  She says in Mando'a “over my dead body.” She narrows her eyes at him. This guy has some nerve to ask something like that
“you’re quite the smart ass aren’t you…” He chuckled, his facial expressions hidden behind his helmet but the hint of a smirk was clear in his body language. “fine then, you can keep your little toys…” he said with a hint of sarcasm “but you’ll have to make it worth my while..” she leans forward, her elbows on her knees, revealing under her cloak a tight black top that reveals her cleavage and tight leggings. The two braids of her striking blonde hair fall forward. Her green eyes meet his through the helmet.
“I'm listening.”
“How about this…you stay with me, you help me catch some bounties and we split the reward…we both make good credits…” he leaned forward slightly just like she did, keeping his eyes on hers the whole time.
“That seems fair enough.” She leans back in her seat the cloak now behind her to reveal her midriff also exposed. Her slim figure and pale skin was distracting. She unhooked the robe from her neck and put it aside. She didn't need to hide anymore. She smirks at his gaze. She could tell he was watching her move.
“Do you have a name?” she asks with a slight laugh
“My name is Din Djarin, but most call me Mando.”
“Althea Kryze. It's good to meet you Din.” She smiles “or just Mando then, A little on the nose that one.”
"Kryze? The Kryze clan?" He asked, curious as to whether or not she did "I heard that the clan of Kryze were wiped out a while back by the empire, along with those of clan Wren..." He looked down and away for a moment.
“Yes, I was of clan Kryze when I was born. My Aunt Bo-katan and I are all that remain.” She looks a little sad as she says that. “The galaxy seems to be out to get me, first the Jedi are massacred then my clan. The force works in mysterious ways.” She looks down at her hands deep in thought for a moment. He knew something was up, he could sense the sadness and anger inside of her. He kept looking into her eyes as he listened
"Maybe we could get along...despite the differences in our upbringings there seems to be something about you that draws me in, something…familiar about you..." He says. She smirks at him.
“Don't get too sentimental on me now. Less than ten minutes ago I was your bounty. Not your partner.” l smiled back at her
"True." He looked down at her again, the way her skin glowed in the light of the cockpit "And what happened to your Jedi code? Is that not some form of compassion?"
“I haven't followed the code in a very long time.” She said shortly. “It's Never been helpful in the rest of the galaxy, survival is more important than some impossibly high set of morals.”
The Razor crest is beginning to approach a planet, He looked through the cockpit window, it was a rocky planet with no signs of human life. It was one of his contacts planets, it was a known hunting ground for his bounties
“Our next mark and the one who put this bounty on your head is on the planet in front of us You're coming with me, we're a team right?"
“Right.” She chuckles

It doesn't take long for Din to see her in action and for her to prove she's perfectly capable. Once they disembark and before he can do a single thing one of the door guards is flying across the rock planet and the other has lost his head to her green blades. And she opened the door “After you.”
Din raised his eyebrows, there was a fire in her when she fought, that’s for sure. The way she threw the people across the room was so effortless. Her ability was beyond exceptional, she knew exactly what she was doing, she was skilled and deadly…he couldn’t help but admire her skills
“very nice” He said as he walked through the door first,  “Let’s find that scum then” She walked in behind him watching his back and it didn't take long to find the idiots who thought it was a good idea to take a bounty out on a force wielder. The two people who put the bounty out was sitting, eating and drinking on top of an old rock building. Din walked in confidently with Althea at his back, nobody would dare stop him
“Come out here” he yelled up at them, they looked down at him and then started to laugh like drunk idiots. Not wanting to delay any further, a shot landed at one of the two’s feet which got their attention, the man looked down annoyed then turned to him “Who the hell are you” Althea came out from behind him and ignited her sabers.
“Looking for me?” She grins. She used the force to lift them and bring them down to their level.
The man confessed to what he did, thinking Althea was some mercenary trying to scam him for the lightsabers he stole, not the original owner. He clears the bounty and begs for mercy. Althea's eyes are full of fire. It would be fun to just gut him like the others. She looks to Mando waiting for his command. He Nodded, and the man was dead.
As they headed back to the ship Din had asked her, how exactly she had ended up in this position.
“I was born to mandalorians, then raised by Jedi, I had only just gotten my padawan braid when everyone I knew was brutally murdered. Shortly after that I made it back to mandalore to my aunt to learn about our people just to watch the planet bombed and poisoned by the empire, I barely got out alive and then I was on the run for years.” She has stopped in her tracks and looked at him “ideals have gotten me nothing but pain. I'll follow what you ask me to do because I owe my life to you now but don't expect me to dedicate myself to another cause that will just make me lose everything again.” She turns back around and walks towards the ship. Din was quiet, listening carefully to what she had to say. After hearing everything she had been through it would be impossible not to feel compassion for her, she had lived a tough life and all that pain had turned her into the person she was today. He followed behind her as she walked away and he could see her pain deep inside her eyes
“Althea …you’re a skilled fighter and you’ve been through more tough moments in life than most, and if the story you just told me is true and you are in fact a Kryze…then your name holds honor”
“I know it does! My mother was the Duchess Satine! “She turns to him again and shouts before covering her mouth “Dank Farrik, I wasn't supposed to say that.” She tries to walk off to the ship again. She's pretty sure he's not going to let this slide that easy but she hopes for the best
"If your mother was the duchess, then that make you a princess or some sort of royalty?" Din then got down on a knee and bowed his head in front of her, he knew that the tradition and honor for such a thing was rare, but he felt compelled to.
“No, no nope nope, stand up, stand up. We're not doing this”. She tries to pull him up to no avail and she didn't really want to use the force on him “Look my mother had a secret affair with the Jedi Obi-wan Kenobi and I'm the product. I was kept a secret until I had to be sent to learn the ways of the Jedi, only clan Kryze knows of my existence and I usually like to keep it that way.” She sighs “please stop bowing I can't handle that.”
“I thought Mandolorians and Jedi didn’t get along?” He asked as he stood. This woman was certainly full of surprises, he had nothing but respect for her but he couldn’t help but think how much pain she must have gone through to get where she is today “Your life is more interesting than I thought”
“Yes, my identity is constantly in conflict and crisis. You could say I'm royalty but I'd rather just be a royal pain in the ass alright.” She laughs a little
Din felt like he had a lot to learn from her.

Healer's Hands
Chapter 3: The Deserter
Master list
Althea froze at the sight of the woman. She had the rifle aimed directly at Hunter, who didn't flinch. Wrecker stood near the ramp, unsure of what to do. Tech looked up from his work, and Crosshair glared at the woman.
"I won't ask again." She said in a thick accent. "Who are you?"
Hunter put his hands up, as if he was calming a wild animal. "We're not here to hurt you, ma'am. Our ship crashed and we're trying to repair it."
The woman shifted the rifle in her hands. "You are clones?"
"Technically," Said Tech. "Although our genetic mutations–"
"I don't care." She said. She put the rifle down, but ready to shoot at a moment's notice. "I don't want you on my land. Be gone as quickly as possible." She turned and left, disappearing into the brush.
"That went well." Said Crosshair. Althea could never tell if he was being sarcastic or not. Hunter turned around to address them.
"She obviously doesn't want us on her land, so we better get to work. Wrecker," Hunter turned to the taller clone. "I want you to help Tech with any heavy lifting. Crosshair, be on guard. We don't know who that woman was, or how long is too long. I'm going to try and contact the Republic to update them on our mission."
He began to walk up the ramp, and Althea looked up at him. "Is there anything you want me to do?" Anything to find her brother.
Hunter faltered. "Uh, no. Try and rest up. You're still injured, so take it easy." He walked up last her and into the ship.
Althea leaned her head on her hands, her elbows on her knees. She needed to do something to help. Maybe Tech could use some? No, she didn't know very much about mechanics, so she would probably only slow him down. And with her bad leg, she couldn't help Wrecker with the heavy lifting. Maybe she could keep watch with Crosshair? But he seemed so cold and distant, Althea wondered if he would shove her off the top of the Marauder from where he sat.
She figured Hunter was right, there was nothing she could do to help. He seemed so in charge. He must be the leader of their squad.
With nothing to do, Althea became bored quickly. She rummaged through her bag to find any past times. Besides medicine, bandages, and a lot of salves, all she had was her journal and pens. But it was only for herbs. An idea popped into her head. Maybe she could wander around and see if she found any herbs. Surely Tech could help her identify them if she needed him to. Plus, she wouldn't wander far, just around the Marauder.
Having made her decision, Althea stood and walked into the bushes. She walked until a plant or bug caught her eye. A small insect zipped past her face and landed on a flower. Althea stopped to get a good look at it. It was shiny blue, with four, paper thin wings that caught the golden light. Althea took out her journal and pen and began to sketch it, making sure to capture the delicate wings.
She wasn't halfway done when the bug flew off, but she just closed her journal and walked after it. She wanted to draw it, then see if any of the Bad Batch had any information about it. She chased after until it landed again, this time staying still long enough for her to finish her sketch.
Althea added the final details on her art, then closed her journal. She looked up to see where she was, but the Marauder was nowhere in sight. Panic rose inside of her. She was on a strange planet, lost and alone.
Althea took a breath. Surely if she just walked in the direction she came from she would get back to the Marauder. Making her decision, she began to walk through the path the plowed through the bushes.
            •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Hunter walked down the ramp and back outside. "I was able to contact the Republic, but they won't be able to send any help."
"Figures." Crosshair scoffed from above.
"Every time." Wrecker groaned. "They never send help."
Hunter sighed. Often times the Bad Batch was considering a sort of "suicide squad". Handling the missions no one else could. But it seemed that the Republic thought that because of their success rate, they didn't need help. "This isn't anything new. Let's just repair the ship and complete the mission." He looked around and realized someone was missing. "Where's the kid?"
Tech adjusted his goggles. "I have not seen her for some time."
"I thought she was with you." Wrecker shrugged.
Hunter looked up at Crosshair. The sniper kept his eyes on the fields. "I was watching for clankers, not little girls."
This was bad. "We need to find her." Said Hunter.
"Why?" Crosshair jumped down from the Marauder, landing next to Hunter. "We should just leave her here. That woman will probably find her."
Tech brushed his hands off. "She is injured, Crosshair. She wouldn't last long. This is a foreign planet to her."
"Yeah, we can't leave her here." Wrecker added.
Hunter nodded. He wouldn't let Althea get eaten by some beast. He grabbed his helmet. "Wrecker, with me. Let's go find her."
Wrecker nodded, donning his own helmet and following Hunter. The sergeant used his heightened senses to track Althea. He noticed the broken twigs from where she brushes against the plants. Her uneven footsteps from her limp. He twisted and turned, wondering what even made her go out this far. He rounded one more bend before finding her, her black hair contrasting heavily against the golden flora.
"There you.are, kid!" Exclaimed Wrecker. "We've been looking forever!"
Althea didn't respond. Hunter grabbed her shoulder. "Kid–"
She held up her hand, signaling for them to be quiet. She pointed subtly in front of her, and the soldiers looked.
It seemed they were at the end of the field, and in front of them was a clearing. In that clearing was a house, a barn, and a few small farm animals. But what was the most interesting, was a man working. He wore a simple green tunic, but his face was one Hunter had seen a thousand times.
He was a clone.
"Is that a clone?" Wrecker whispered.
Hunter nodded. "Looks like."
But the clone wasn't the only person in the clearing. From the house, came the woman from before, and behind her were two Twi'lek kids. A boy and girl. They ran outside and began to play with their ball, tossing it back and forth. That was until, the boy threw it over the girl's head, and it bounced over, right at Althea's feet.
The girl ran to fetch her ball, but stopped short when she saw the strange trio. Althea picked up the ball, offering it to the little girl. She looked wary, and the woman from before noticed. She craned her neck to see what was happening, and a dispute scowl played across her face when she saw them.
She turned to the clone and said something, making him approach them. He was on guard. Hunter figured he could either present himself as peaceful, or half to possibly fight off the clone. He chose the former. He stepped out of the field, his hands raised in surrender. He motioned for Althea and Wrecker to do the same.
Hunter slowly took off his helmet, and the clone seemed to be confused. "We don't want to hurt you." Said Hunter. "Our ship crashed not far from here, and one of us wandered off."
Altea winced, but Hunter didn't say anything about it. Thanks clone lowered his guard, but only slightly. "Why don't you come inside? We can talk more there."
               •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
It felt good to sit down after walking for so long on a bad leg. Althea, Hunter, and Wrecker sat at a table inside. The clone, Cut, began to tell them his story. "Shortly after the Battle of Geonosis," He explained. "Our troop transport got caught between two Separatist gunships. They fired at us with everything they had. We crashed. Most of us were either dead or severely injured. So when they started working their way through the wounded, killing us off, I knew there was no hope. I ran. It still haunts me."
Hunter nodded. "I'm sorry to hear that. We weren't sent to come find you."
Wrecker nodded. "Yeah. Our ship crashed just over there."
Cut hummed in thought. "I can help you with your ship, but only of you swear not to report me."
Hunter nodded. After all, what could he gain from reporting a clone long thought dead?
          •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Over the next few days, (turns out the ship was worse than Tech thought) Cut, Tech, and Hunter worked tirelessly to fix the Marauder. Crosshair kept a constant vigil, and Wrecker played the with kids. They'd taken a liking to him. Althea, however, was on strict orders to not walk unless absolutely necessary. Apparently, her walk through the fields ended up causing more swelling in her leg. She sat bored on Cut's porch, her open journal in her lap.
Suu, the Twi'lek woman, walked up next to her. "Bored?" She asked.
Althea nodded. "Tech won't let me do anything with my bad leg."
Suu sat down next to her. "Are these your drawings?" She pointed to the sketches of herbs in her journal.
Althea nodded. "Yeah. My family had been documenting them for years."
Suu looked at the pictures with great interest. "I could teach you some of the herbs around here, if you'd like."
Althea perked up. "That would be great!"
Suu smiled and stood. She walked into the house and returned a few minutes later with a bright yellow flower in her hand. "This is a sundelion." She explained. "When it's made into a stew, it helps heal sickness faster."
Althea nodded, jotting down notes and drawing the golden flower. When she was done, she thought it might have been her best work.
Tumblr media
Suu looked over at her art. "You look a bit like a sundelion yourself."
Althea looked at her. "Really?"
She nodded. "Black and yellow, and you both heal. You both seem delicate, but are actually strong."
Althea smiled. She looked out at the yard and saw the kids, Shaeeah and Jek, hanging off Wrecker's arms. It reminded her of herself and her brother when they were little. She needed to find Thao. They were a few days behind now, and who knows what he was thinking on that Separatist ship. He must be so scared.
Suu must have noticed her sadness. "Is something wrong?"
Althea shook her worries off. "No. Thank you for the help."
Suu nodded. "It's my pleasure. We could do more if you like."
Althea smiled, and the two documented herbs until the Marauder was fixed.
             •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Althea stood outside the Marauder with the Bad Batch. Cut, Suu, and their kids sending them off. "Thank you for your help." Hunter said.
Cut nodded. "As long as you uphold your end of the deal."
Wrecker laughed. "You don't got anything to worry about. Hunter's a man of his word."
They said their goodbyes, and took off into the atmosphere. Tech said that the Separatist ship had left the system, and was now near Rodia. Althea sat back in on of the console chairs. Hunter was across from her.
She thought about the family, and how happy they seemed. "Hunter?"
The sergeant turned around to look at her. "Yeah, kid?"
"You're not actually gonna report Cut, right?" She twisted her fingers as she spoke.
Hunter stared at her for a moment, then shook his head. "Of course not. Kid, Cut is one clone. He wouldn't make any difference in this war. It's best to just let the Republic think he's dead."
"Besides," Tech added from the doorway. "We never follow orders."
Wrecker laughed, and even Crosshair smiled slightly. Althea smiled as well. These clones were good people, and maybe she would be all right with them

AMBUSH perhaps?
Scenarios // Accepting! @libertytaken (sorry i took forever north, tbh i forgot this was in my inbox)
You treat one gang member in the ED and they all think you're taking sides. It's like they've never considered someone might like being no man's land. It was gonna be a bitch to get the blood out of her white coat, but at least it was just an arm graze. At least that's why she thought she wound up in the middle of gunfire not far from Memorial. Spotting the figure of red in the building she was taking cover in, she wasn't so sure anymore. Oh.
"It's Lonnie, right?" That was probably a creepy opening given the circumstances. Wincing at her own impulse, Althea put up her good hand up a bit in a non-threatening apology kind of way. "Cassie talks about you." Usually blushing, but she'd spare that detail for now.
"Any other way out of here? I'll admit I carry and know how to shoot, but I really don't like doing it unless I'm out of options."

Healer's Hands
Chapter 5: The Base
Master list
"I get my own armor?!"
Althea held the armor Hunter gave her in her arms. She and the squad were back in the Marauder, heading to their next destination.
Hunter chuckled at her excitement. "Yes. You've learned how to shoot, but that won't do anything to protect you in battle. You need armor, just in case you get hit. Even some Jedi wear clone armor."
Althea grinned. "Thank you."
Hunter patted her shoulder. "You're welcome. Go try it on."
Althea was still grinning when she went into the fresher to change. Hunter felt himself smiling, that was until Crosshair spoke up. "You're getting attached." He said.
Hunter didn't say anything, so the sniper continued. "What are you going to do when she doesn't find her brother? Or finds him...not the way she expected."
Hunter kept his gaze on his boots. It wasn't a secret that everyone except Althea had expressed some concern about her brother being gone. And while none of them wanted to scare the girl, they couldn't just let her go unaware of the possibilities.
"You need to tell her." Crosshair said. He walked away into the cockpit, leaving Hunter alone. Wrecker sat in one of the console chairs.
"You don't think her brother is actually..."
Hunter looked at him. "We don't know what's happened to him, but we need to be prepared."
Wrecker nodded. Before any of them could discuss it more, Althea re-entered the hull. "Well, how's it look?" She asked.
The armor was especially made for her size, but it still hung off her shoulders loosely. The white of the armor contrasted heavily against her dark hair, and made her eyes look pale.
Hunter smiled. "A little big. But it'll get the job done."
Althea adjusted the belt. "How come they didn't give me a helmet?"
"Don't know." The sergeant told her. "The Kaminoans aren't exactly the most forthcoming people." He remembered all the times Tech asked why they did something as cadets, earning annoyed looks from the scientists.
Althea shrugged. "I'm gonna show Tech and Crosshair." She ran off into the cockpit and soon after, Tech called Hunter in.
"Hunter," He said. "I've located the Separatist ship."
The sergeant walked into the cockpit, Wrecker not far behind. "Where?"
"The planet Ackron." Tech answered. "They have a base of operations there. It's small, and it looks as if it is the main source of intel."
Hunter hummed in thought. "Might as well take the whole thing. If we could get all of their intel, it might be enough to actually put a dent in their army."
"What about the kid?" Crosshair asked.
Althea frowned from where she sat next to him. "I'm right here, you know."
Hunter frowned. They needed to complete the mission, but they also needed to keep Althea safe. The sergeant knew that the girl would do anything to find her brother. After all, he would do the same if the Separatists had anyone of his squad. There would be no keeping Althea away from the danger. "She came come."
Looks of surprise were all Hunter saw. "Hunter," Tech started. "You do realize the probability–"
"I understand, Tech. But she needs to come."
Althea shot him a look of gratitude. "Thanks, but can we please stop talking about me like I'm not here."
Wrecker leaned over Althea's seat. "You ready for your first mission, kid?" He asked excitedly.
Althea forced a smile. Deep down, she was terrified. But she didn't want them to think she was helpless. Tech brought the ship out of hyperspace, revealing a large planet of rust orange. He brought them into the atmosphere, giving Althea a better look at the terrain.
Ackron was all badlands. Not sandy like a dessert, but it was hard to believe anything could live there. Not far away was a large tower. It was hard to see in the yellow light, but swarming the base were battle droids. Docked at the top of the tower was the Separatist ship. Althea swallowed hard. She would find her brother today, after a week of searching.
Tech set the ship down on a ridge, a click away from the tower. After the ramp was lowered, they made their way onto the ridge, hiding in the rocks and watching with binocs.
"Looks like there's only one way in." Hunter said. "Tech, Wrecker, you're with me." He stood up and turned to the squad. "Crosshair, you know what to do."
Crosshair had his helmet on, but Althea was sure he was smirking. She turned to Hunter. "What about me?"
Hunter faltered. He did say she could come, but he didn't want her to get hurt. "You stay back with Crosshair."
Althea frowned. "But I can help."
Hunter shook his helmet. "No. If you want your brother to have a sister to come back to, you'll stay here."
Althea scowled, but she stepped back to Crosshair nonetheless. Hunter nodded in approval before sliding down the ridge with Tech and Wrecker. Althea watched them. It should be her saving Thao.

Crosshair let out a soft sigh. He was laying down on his stomach, his rifle at the ready. Sounds of blaster fire echoed up the canyon. He wished he could be there with his brothers, but his gift wasn't one for close combat. Instead, he was stuck in the hot sun babysitting an impatient girl.
Althea sat next to him, her eyes covered by binocs. She had barely said a word since they left, and as much Crosshair loved silence, it was starting to worry him slightly. The kid had to be anxious to find her brother, but as snide as he was, Crosshair felt sorry for her. All she wanted to do was save her brother, but he may not be alive. And the many times he had brought it up weren't to get rid of Althea, but to try and prepare her so she wouldn't be devastated.
Who was he kidding? No one could ever prepare themselves fully to see a brother dead. That was what made their squad so different. They were loyal to each other, and unlike the regs, Crosshair couldn't bear seeing one of his brothers injured, or worse.
The main reason he objected to taking on Althea was he didn't want her to see the horrors of war. Crosshair had buried it all down, but the sight of innocent dead shook him.
He looked over at Althea and saw she was staring at him. "What?" He asked.
She pursed her lips. "Do they always take this long?"
Crosshair shifted slightly. "Sometimes. I'm surprised there hasn't been any explosions yet."
As if waiting for a cue, a loud boom sounded from the base. Crosshair could've sworn he heard Wrecker's gleeful yell, even from a distance. Althea's fingers tapped her blaster. Crosshair knew that Wrecker had taught her to shoot, but that wouldn't be enough. She needed to learn to identify her targets and their weak points.
"Wrecker taught you to shoot." Crosshair said.
Althea nodded, so he continued. "Good, but not good enough. You can't just shoot randomly and expect your target to drop. You have to know where to shoot."
"What do you mean?" Althea asked.
Crosshair turned back to his rifle. He lined up the sights to a droid's head that had come into range. "Watch and learn."
BANG
The clanker dropped to the ground and others followed. Crosshair smirked when he heard Althea's gasp. He turned to her. "Now you try."
"Me?" Althea's mouth hung open slightly. Crosshair moved so his rifle was in Althea's arms and he was behind her.
The sniper stared at her. "I don't see anyone else around, do you?" He showed her how to hold the rifle. Stock in her shoulder next to her cheek, one hand on the barrel, the other near the trigger. "Wrecker taught you about the trigger?"
Althea nodded. "Don't put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to shoot. Squeeze, don't pull."
Crosshair nodded. "Good, but do you know when to pull it?"
"Er..."
"In-between breaths. Take a deep breath, and once it's finished, squeeze. Don't do it at the end of the breath, wait until it's completely finished."
She nodded.
Crosshair leaned on his stomach beside her. "You see your target."
"A droid." Althea was extremely focused on the scope.
"Aim slightly lower than where you want to hit." The sniper explained. "Normally you would have to aim higher because the laser would drop, but since we're elevated you don't want to overshoot. Fire when ready."
Althea took a deep breath, put her finger on the trigger, and found her target. She released her breath and squeezed the trigger.
CLANG!
The droid dropped, and Crosshair couldn't help but smile. Althea looked up at him, a wide grin on her face. "I did it."
Crosshair nodded. "You sure did."
Suddenly, Hunter's voice crackled through the comms. Crosshair and Althea pressed their fingers to their comm devices.
"Crosshair!" Hunter said. "We need you down here!"
Crosshair nodded. "I'm on my way." He looked to Althea. "You ready, kid?"
Althea nodded. "Hunter got me this armor for a reason." She gripped her blaster tightly, and the duo made their way down the ridge.
                      •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Hunter and Wrecker covered Tech as he stole the data from the main control center. The clankers dropped easily, but Hunter still felt uneasy. On the other side of the room was the docking entrance to the ship. Hunter knew that Althea's brother was there, but was he okay? He couldn't wait any longer, he needed to know. "Wrecker, can you hold them off?"
Hunter could practically hear Wrecker's grin. "I was waiting for you to ask! Yeah?" He lept into the fray, leaving Hunter to go into the ship.
He passed through the doors, waiting to see if anyone was there. But he sensed nothing. Even though his helmet hindered his tracking, he should have been able to feel the presence of a person. The knot in Hunter's stomach twisted further. Something wasn't right.
He made his way through the ship, blaster at ready. His footfalls echoed down the metallic corridors. Then finally, the scent found him. Hunter stopped in his tracks. Not far in front of him was a small figure lying on the floor. It had curly black hair, but that was all Hunter could see. He moved closer to it, and felt his heart twist at the sight.
He had never met Althea's brother, but he could recognize those yellow eyes anywhere. But unlike Althea's, this boy's eyes were cold and unmoving. On his chest there was a blaster wound, but it was cold. By the looks of him, he had been dead a long time. Hunter didn't know what he was going to tell Althea.
                      •°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Althea found Tech in the main control room if the tower. Crosshair was helping Wrecker take out the droids. "What's happening?" She asked.
Tech worked furiously at the controls. "I've extracted the Intel from the database. I electronic charges all around when we made our ascent, and I am now linking them to this main center. When I am finished, the tower will be set to blow in ten minutes."
Althea bounced on her heels. She was itching to save her brother. "Where's Hunter?"
"In the ship."
Althea nodded before running into the ship. She was finally going to save Thao. Maybe Hunter already found him with his tracking skills. "Hunter?" She called as she ran through the metal halls. "Thao!"
Finally, she saw Hunter. He was standing completely still. "Hunter!" She called. He looked up at her and took off his helmet. His eyes shone grey in the dim light, as they so often did. But they held sadness as the sergeant furrowed his brow. Hunter looked at her then back at the thing he stood over. It had curly black hair.
Althea paled as she neared. A startled yelp escaped her when she laid eyes on her dead brother. His eyes, normally so warm and alive, were dimmed to a faded cream, devoid of all life.
"No." Althea kneeled down to Thao's side. "No, it can't be."
Hunter looked at her in sympathy. "Kid, I–"
"No!" Althea began to sob. "No! He can't be gone!" She combed her fingers through her brother's hair, clinging to a false hope. "He can't be gone!"
Suddenly, heavy footsteps echoed down the hall. "Hunter! Kid!" It was Wrecker. "Tech set the place to blow! We gotta move!"
Hunter slipped his helmet back on, but Althea stayed by her brother and sobbed. Hunter squeezed her shoulder. "Althea, we need to move."
"No!" She refused, and Wrecker came over. It only took one look for the giant of a clone to see what was wrong. He wanted to comfort Althea, but they had no time. Instead, he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, ignoring her screams to be put down.
They ran back to the tower where Crosshair and Tech were waiting to go. Neither of them said a word about Althea's crazed state as the ran for the Marauder.
Wrecker set Althea down in the crash seats (the only seats with safety buckles), holding her by her shoulders as she screamed.
Explosions rang out as Tech flew them away, jolting into hyperspace. Althea beat her fists against Wrecker's chest. "GO BACK! I NEED TO GO BACK FOR HIM!!"
Wrecker closed his eyes in pain, but not from her fists, from her desperation. Crosshair kept his helmet on for his own sake. He didn't want the others to see his attachment to Althea, and how much it pained him to see her like this.
Althea stopped trying to hit Wrecker and slid onto the floor. Sobs racked her body as Hunter and Tech came in. The sergeant felt his emotions swell as he watched the young girl grieve her brother. Tech frowned. No one should have to go what she's gone through.
The Bad Batch stood around Althea as she sobbed, all at a loss for what to do. Althea felt herself slip into a despair so deep, she wished it would crush her.
