Jon becoming KiTN in Winds (specifically) would actually be bad as far as themes go
#hot take of the day y’all 🌚#idk if I’ll write about this more in depth one day but……#jon is going through a traditional hero’s journey - perhaps almost very literally#he is currently at the lowest point of the journey which is where the hero faces his toughest mental and maybe physical battles#winds will be his innermost cave (like a gaze into the abyss) + ordeal step which have to happen before his reward (apotheosis and boon)#so unless grrm wants to paint him becoming kitn as his lowest point thematically which could mean jon knowingly usurps his siblings#-because let’s face it him being robb’s heir while valid still comes with A LOT of issues-#there’s just no way his ascension to the northern throne could thematically be good for anyone but most of all him#I tend to think that jon will be tempted -this will be his gazing into the abyss part instead of the usually accepted theory#that he just doesn’t do anything at all for the whole book- and that is what will create the most believable narrative tension in his arc#but he won’t go through with it and will ultimately choose to sacrifice himself AGAIN#pulling back from the abyss before it’s too late#so yeah his kitn prospects for winds don’t look very good….sorry to say guys :(#but if we talk about king of WINTER…that’s a different matter yes? 😀#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#jon snow#preparing to be excommunicated from the fandom in 3 2 1…

According to the app, I've got fifteen minutes left in The Heir of Redclyffe, but I don't want it to be over.
#the heir of redclyffe#charlotte mary yonge#it's so odd#there's some of the 'swimming through legos' feeling to the prose that reminds me of reading little women and other earlier victorian books#where the prose is wordy in a workmanlike way so you can't really call it beautiful or skillful#but also the characters are worthwhile enough that it's worth the extra work#and when i think back on plot events it's kind of astounding how big a deal they've made over such very small events#but yet#there's a depth to that smallness#gives a sense of the spiritual significance of even the tiny stupid conflicts of daily life#(even when i don't buy into their victorian codes of conduct)#'the greatest drama in life is the battle for a single human soul' and all#which also makes it possible to read *too deeply* into this story so i gotta watch out#but i know i'm going to be thinking about these characters and their journeys for a long time#there's a lot of 'telling' along with the 'showing' of these arcs but they're still good arcs#she's so subtly brutal to these characters#losing all hope for the future can still leave you in joy#getting everything you ever wanted in life can be the worst possible outcome#(and not just because of the depravity of wealth or whatever)#(but because the circumstances of getting it are nothing like how you wanted it )#and the pacing is actually working surprisingly well#a lot of classics have this point where the last third or quarter has radically different circumstances from the rest of the book#and it usually feels weird to me and it's hard to think of it as the same book#but in this book that section might be my favorite in the story#the long denouement really gives you a chance to see how these characters grow#i'm a little worried she won't be able to leave everything in a satisfactory place with the page count we have left#but also if it never ends i never have to find out if she drops the ball or not

I did find that it solved everything quite quickly#. - i thought i was maybe approaching half way then checked and it was 80% lol... I think that’s just it being YA#It’s more wrapping up the plot from the previous two books than anything else. I definitely had forgotten the intricacies of the politics a#- but the focus of this series is definitely on the MC’s journey and her relationships with others anyway.#Really all I wanted for this book was for it to continue to have no romance! So I am satisfied in that regard!#endlessly amused over reviews (for all the books) referring to the two dudes as the love interests. for who?#just bc they’re men of a similar age to the MC????#I thought the amount of times they were referred to pointedly as Friend and Family was overdone but apparently not djfghfd#also - there's a light implication that the two dudes would marry each OTHER for political reasons.#(though probably not actually bc heirs etc dfghkjfdgh) (I'm very amused about it all anyway.)#I did switch from the arc to the finished copy when it showed up available on libby

Was in a drama slump after Knight Flower ended and I also finished A Journey to Love. The Impossible Heir didn't turn out to be my next fix despite having Lee Jae Wook as anticipated. Judge Dee's Mystery also just did not keep my interest, even if it would be something I'm interested in. Guess I just didn't vibe with it. But started Yong An Dream with my mom and it's been a fun watch. However, I just can't help thinking of how much the lead actress Ouyang Nana looks like Zeng Shunxi, and that's a little distracting 😂

first thing I did when I saw the child violette post was rush back to Zelda’s 1909 lookbook to see how they resemble. I love seeing how genetics work in the game
Baby, SAME! First thing I do when a Darlington is born is age them up and play a round of what I call “genetics roulette” (please see the Darlingtons one here and the Duplanchier one here, because they are all stunning). Make no mistake I will absolutely be doing another one with Zelda, Antoine, and Violette whenever she comes of age and we see her in all her pixel glory.
For now what I’ll tell you is that she has Zelda’s eye shape and mouth, Delphine’s eye color, and Antoine’s nose and jaw structure. To say she is stunning is an understatement. But what else could one expect from her parents? 😉

ugh im legit so disappointed they gave heir to the empire to filoni (& will seemingly focus on Ahsoka) rather than give it to someone like Gilroy and focus on Han/Luke/Leia
#use cgi or even as a recast whatever#filoni does not deserve heir to the empire#not after the complete and utter trainwreck of Mando3#absolutely not#heir to the empire#ahsoka is great but we dont need the Filoni OC takeover#we need the og trio tbh#theyre the bedrock of star wars#which is why the universe seems so lifeless in disneys hands#give a powerful presence to han luke and leia and youre gold#whatever else you like from the sw universe should definitely coexist (the prequels the din and grogu stuff ahsokas journey the crime and#underworld andor rogue one yes#but without han luke and leia as its anchor the entire universe feels empty#plain and simple you truly cant have sw without the skywalkers (meaning LEIA and LUKE and VADER)#you can extrapolate all you want but they are the core of the core#until dlf brings them back itll always feel hollow#the sequels didnt give them any power and tbh this is the number one reason it fell flat#bc they used the og trio to prop up the new characters and and not the other way around#had they have been smart enough to do that - i guarantee the sequels wouldve succeedes#succeeded
