Golden Village Multiplex Yishun 10 - Singapore (1992)
Designed by Geoff Malone International (GMI)
"The detailing of the external cladding is reminiscent of the Kirin Building in Osaka by Shin Takamatsu, with meticulously constructed junctions of stainless steel and profiled cladding juxtaposed with lighting tubes. Unlike Takamatsu's monochromatic facade, however, the colours used in Yishun 10 are predominantly red, white and silver, with "splashes" of other primary colours—all evoke the excitement and magic of "a night at the movies". Interestingly, the Kirin Building houses a film institute and cinema buffs will recall it being used for location filming of the movie Black Rain.
A central two-storey atrium has numerous restaurants arranged around its perimeter at first-storey. The automated ticket office is located in this central space. An escalator and stair-cases give access to the spacious second-storey foyer and thence to the ten individual cinemas on the third storey. A stair-lift permits access to the disabled.
In the main foyer, aside from the functional planning, the architect obviously derived much pleasure from the task of designing the sculptural sci-fi light fittings and multi-coloured fluorescent tube lighting in an otherwise slightly dimmed interior. Floor lighting beneath laminated glass blocks and multiple television monitor screens, with constantly changing images, all contribute to the "escapism" that is an integral part of a visit to the cinema.
For a brief interlude, the cinema-goer is transported out of the HDB township and the frantic rush of economic activity into a world of fantasy, glamour and enchantment. The Multiplex is "both a centripetal and a centrifugal force" in the urban landscape; it attracts patrons from a wide catchment area and projects an image of a vigorous and enterprising new town. It is ironic that, until the early 1990s, cinemas in Singapore were closing down for lack of patronage and some were being converted to churches. Now we see not only a revival of the genre, but as exemplified in the Golden Village Multiplex Yishun 10, it can create a special urban focus."

#TCMFF Day 4
Sunday, April 27
Eddie Muller's schedule:
9:15 AM
TCL Chinese Theatres, House 1
Eddie will be introducing THE BIG COMBO (1955) with filmmaker Ernest Dickerson.
With Joseph H. Lewis directing and John Alton in charge of cinematography, this guarantees one of the most vividly shot of all film noirs, a symphony in chiaroscuro in this world premiere restoration.
1:15
Egyptian Theatre

Eddie will be introducing Francis Ford Coppola’s APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) in 70mm with filmmaker Antoine Fuqua. Hailed by many as one of the greatest war films ever made and a landmark film about the Vietnam War, Coppola’s film combines an epic vision of war and its consequences with deep philosophical questions. It earned Oscars for Vittorio Storaro’s evocative cinematography and its sound design by it earned Oscars for Vittorio Storaro’s evocative cinematography and its sound design by Walter Murch, Mark Berger, Richard Beggs, and Nat Boxer.
2:30 PM
TCL Chinese Theatres, House 6

Eddie is thrilled to be introducing TCMFF’s tribute screening of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986) with the film’s star Kyle MacLachlan. Lynch’s breakthrough film establishes one of his trademarks: exposing the seedy underbelly of a seemingly idyllic small town. Digging into the mystery behind his discovery of a severed ear, college student Jefery (MacLachlan) falls into the twisted world of criminal Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) and singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini). The film established Lynch as one of the screen’s most visionary and controversial directors.
3:00 PM
Club TCM, The Hollywood Roosevelt
Eddie will be moderating JUST GETTING STARTED: A CONVERSATION WITH TITLE DESIGNER DAN PERRI.
4:15 PM
Club TCM, The Hollywood Roosevelt

Eddie will be signing copies of the revised and expanded edition of his essential volume Dark City Dames for passholders
8:15
TCL Chinese Theatres, House 1

Eddie will introduce TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME (1949) with his fellow TCM hosts Alicia Malone and Dave Karge. Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra play members of the fictional Wolves baseball team whose lives are thrown into disarray when the team’s new owner turns out to be a woman (Esther Williams). Directed by Busby Berkeley.

FOTD #123 : clustered blue chanterelle! (polyozellus multiplex)
the clustered blue chanterelle (also blue chanterelle) is a fungus in the family telephoraceae :-) it forms mycorrhizal associations under spruce & fir trees, more often at higher altitudes. so far, it has been collected in the US, canada, haida gwaii, china, japan, & korea.
the big question : can i bite it?? yes !! it is edible.
p. multiplex description :
"individual caps : 2-8 cm wide; more or less round in outline, or irregularly shaped ; finely velvety ; purple to blue or black ; sometimes faintly zoned concentrically, at least texturally ; with a wavy margin that is initially whitish but darkens with maturity. under-surface : running down the stem ; smooth to wrinkled, or sometimes with gill-like folds (occasionally nearly poroid in places) ; coloured like the cap or paler; blackening with age. stem : 2-4 cm long ; 0.5-1.5 cm thick ; coloured like the under-surface ; fused with other stems at the base ; solid or becoming hollow. flesh : deep purple to bluish ; soft, but brittle."
[images : source & source] [fungus description : source]
"despite its name, this fungus is not related to the chanterelles in the cantharellus genus !!"

I haven't seen any comments on this outside of biochemistry journals so because I think it is cool: we have the technology to screen for multiple early stage cancers with a single blood test
#logxx#Who knows how long it will take for this particular test to achieve clinical application#(though liquid biopsies as they are called are already starting to be phased into standard of care)#But there have been multiple successful multiplexed liquid biopsies for early stage cancer detection

Spoilers for Absolute Power: Task Force VII #4!
It's a blink-and-you'll miss it cameo, but I was definitely surprised to see Roscoe and Len forced into building some device for Amanda Waller's regime. (Not sure if the woman working with Doctor Psycho is a miscoloured Lisa or somebody else, and the guy in the top hat could be the Shade or maybe the Wizard. And poor Houngan's been whitewashed.) Obviously we're being teased with what the villains are constructing, but there's no indication of what it is aside from looking like some kind of portal. Waller's probably got designs on other multiversal Earths or other planets.
Not shown because I cropped the page: Ralph Dibny beaten half to death by a guard with a bloody baton. Which is horrible, but it's also kind of weird that he has elongated and twisted limbs when he's supposed to be depowered. I hope the guard didn't do that to him :\

professional opinion is both of those lists are very white and maybe not VERY straight but very mainstream in a way that suggests a boringness of artistic taste I typically associate with straight people
#like did it hit a couple of top flicks on a stock gay checklist sure#but there's no john waters to wong foo paris is burning etc and instead there's... multiple children's animated features#i feel like it's an obvious thing to say about this website but it is not a platform where people seekbto challenge themselves artistically#or in an age and developmentally appropriate way#if both those lists were a movie theater's summer multiplex offerings for like a $2 matinee?#sorry to say it but you still wouldn't see me for most of these screenings. hell not even for free if i'm being honest.

The Handicapped Sign♿
Last Modified: 27/11/2024
Almost forgot that today is also the International Day of People with Disability! As you gotta know, I have spastic Cerebral Palsy on both of my legs, so here's my contribution to bring awareness of this fact.
Anyway, this consists of 8 multiplexed shapes (one for the background and up to seven(!) for the stick figure on a wheelchair). It was kinda hard to position all of these shapes, especially the legs. :P

AMC Studio 30 Theatre - Houston, TX (1997)
"What the design attempts to do in the 110,000 sq. ft. space is simulate a movie studio backlot and the soundstage where guests become part of the action, and the experience "rekindles the magic and memory of movie going."
Elements from sound stages and studio road cases make up the central lobby space along with a guest service desk. Images of Hollywood's glamorous stars of the past add enchantment to the balcony walls. The space is divided into three themed areas that "transport guests into fantastic worlds of Animation, Action/Adventure and Cyberspace." The food concession stands within each area carries through the theme; "Fizz, Sizzle, Pop"; Wildebeest Feast"; and "Quantum Bits." The 30 auditoria are located off the soundstage lobby and within the various themed areas.
The architecture seems to come alive in the Animation area. The space is designed to resemble an animation cel: "flat, two-dimensional, cartoon-like graphics are outlined with black lines, filled with color and applied on an exaggerated scale." The Fizz, Sizzle, Pop concession's identity and blimp directional signs seem to float in a blue sky with flat, cut-out clouds. The setting for Action/ Adventure recalls a rainforest with heavy hanging leaves, bamboo and rock "carved" directional signs. The custom wall covering features petroglyphs of cave people carrying popcorn, megaphones and movie cameras. The fiber optic eyes peering from behind the leaves in the Wildebeest Feast stand change color. They also appear above rock outcroppings down the corridor. Patrons are invited to explore an abstract, futuristic world in Cyberspace where the floor and ceiling are the same color and brushed aluminum columns rise partway to the ceiling. To create the illusion of "endless space." custom light fixtures project beams of light along the walls and backlit graphic images have neon edges. Various colored lights and a high-tech fluorescent green/orange acrylic sign help to define the Quantum Bits concession area in Cyberspace."
Designed by Kiku Obata & Co.

TCMFF Day One
Opening night of TCMFF includes a healthy dose of crime. The gala event will be PULP FICTION (1994), 6:30 PM at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, with John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Harvey Keitel in conversation. FNF prez Eddie Muller will introduce Raoul Walsh’s WHITE HEAT (1949) at American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theatre, 7:00 PM. On the lighter side, CLUE will play poolside at The Hollywood Roosevelt , 7:30 PM with Lesley Ann Warren in attendance.

The second round of screenings include Richard Brooks IN COLD BLOOD (1967), introduced by producer Michael Uslan, 9:30 at the TCL Chinese Theatres Multiplex, House 1 and the world premiere restoration of GAMBIT (1966), introduced by writer and film historian Sloan DeForrest.
WHITE HEAT
(1949): “Top of the world, Ma!” A G-man (Edmond O'Brien) infiltrates a gang run by a mother-fixated psychotic, James Cagney in a standout performance. This film marks the cinematic movement away from the traditional Warner Brothers’ portrayal of the gangster to the more cynical and psychological film noir interpretation. Virginia Kellogg garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Writing, Motion Picture Story for the film. Pointless trivia: Naked Gun 33 1/3 borrowed the plot. Dir. Raoul Walsh
IN COLD BLOOD
(1967) Bleak adaptation of Truman Capote’s groundbreaking true crime book. Two men (Robert Blake and Scott Wilson) brutally murder a small-town Kansas family, thinking that ten thousand dollars is hidden in the house. They flee with the forty-three dollars that they actually found, and the FBI hunts them. Dir. Richard Brooks

Don't want you guys to feel left out so here!! :
🪐 - what is headspace like for you?
🎁 - have you ever bought your alters/headmates things?
🎮 - what do your alters/headmates do in their free time?
👾 - funniest out of context system quote?
🌟 - do any alters help out with school/work?
- 🌵 :33
Ghskf thank you!! /gen
—
🪐 - headspace for us is this… extremely vast and complex thing with many different layers and such! We’re actually multiple systems sharing one body too, so each layer is different depending on which system lives there.
Our current, “main fronting” group’s layer of the headspace is pretty much an old mining town and a forest! Which I imagine is probably caused by our current hyperfixation/spinterest lmao
It’s so complicated to explain to outsiders but hopefully that was clear enough!
—
🎁 - we have, actually! I think ✂️ bought Minecraft for all of us, and Piper (🎸) bought a membership to our favorite developers’ Patreon recently!!
(I think those count lmao)
—
🎮 - in general, it’s either listening to music really loudly or playing video games! … If they’re in front, that is. There’s generally more options in headspace.
(Going on walks seems to be pretty popular, especially since there’s a lot of neat things you can find and such. We’re hoping to add more stuff soon though!)
—
👾 - oh boy, we’ve got a couple of those actually… hmm… I guess this quote comes to mind, though:
Rin (🍊): “Oh gosh, I wish I was a horse!”
I don’t even know what she was talking about. Like what prompted this. (We’re not even in the same layer so it’s not like I could ask mew either…)
—
🌟 - in our group, not yet? We’ve been on break so there’s nothing for us to do, really, which means we don’t have that figured out yet lol
I know the previous group had Marlowe (❄️) though, so I’m gonna mention him ghskf
#ask games#💜 | angel#tbh everything about our plurality is complicated because we’re multiplex/polyplural/polyfragmented/what have you so… ghskf#we should write down what we know/figure out more often
