Books with “G” Authors I Own and and Need to Read Part 1

,,Więzy Nieba" A. C. Gaughen

Aspasia jest kapitanem niezwykłego statku, który pomaga uwalniać z niewoli kobiety i dzieci jednocześnie ryzykując przy tym życie. Dlaczego? Otóż dlatego, że jest Żywiołem powietrza i to na tyle potężnym, aby móc poderwać cały statek z wody w powietrze. Ah… gdyby można byłoby zobaczyć coś takiego na żywo! Na pewno wyglądałoby to cudownie.

No ale książka nie skupia się tylko na Asp i jej załodze, która próbuje znaleźć równowagę między dobrem a złem koniecznym. Oj nie. Tutaj mamy jeszcze drugie dno, jakim jest Cyrus i jej zapał do odkrycia wszelkich sekretów pani kapitan. Bo co się stanie gdy ta przebiegła handlarka niewolników odkryje całą prawdę o Aspasii? I jaki w tym wszystkim udział będzie miał ‘’szczur pustynny” o niesamowitych zdolnościach? Oczywiście trzeba się przekonać o tym, sięgając po ,,Więzy Nieba”, które zachwyciły mnie jeszcze bardziej niż tom pierwszy!

Może zacznę od tego, że ta książka jest bardzo złożona, ale mimo wszystko na pierwszy plan wysuwa się wątek niewolnictwa, który autorka poruszyła nieco już w ,,Berle Ziemi”, ale tutaj rozwinęła go całkowicie. Właściwie to całe ,,Więzy Nieba” opowiadają o niewolnictwie, jego skutkach i o tym, jak traktuje się takich zniewolonych ludzi. I trzeba przyznać, że naprawdę świetnie wyszło to pani Gaughen, bo jej opowieść o całej tej przeklętej machinie i wątkach o nadziei podbiła moje serce do tego stopnia, że nie mogę się doczekać tego, co wykombinuje ona w trzecim tomie.

Oczywiście oprócz wątku niewolnictwa książka pokazała też cudowną historię o tym, jak ważna jest rodzina i zaufanie do ludzi, jacy cię otaczają. No bo, co by zrobiła Aspasia, gdyby nie mogła ufać swojej załodze? Jak by dała radę dowodzić okrętem i robić te wszystkie cudowne rzeczy? No i najważniejsze: Co by zrobiła, gdyby nie napędzała jej nadzieja, że kiedyś odnajdzie swoje młodsze rodzeństwo?

Tak. Rodzina, zaufanie, nadzieja i przyjaciele to największe zalety i główne filary tej książki, o której mogłabym chyba opowiadać godzinami. Dlaczego? Bo była naprawdę świetna… mimo drobnych mankamentów, które mi nie pasowały (np. od początku autorka kreowała nam jedną postać na taką, która zdecydowanie zrobi coś przykrego -nie chcę spojlerować, więc tak to nazwę – dla głównej bohaterki. No i nie do końca leżało mi to, że statek aż tak szybko przemieszczał się z jednego miejsca w drugie – nawet mimo umiejętności Aspasii jest to dla mnie nie do pojęcia. No i jak dla mnie Gaughen czasami za bardzo przesadzała z mocą pani kapitan).

,,Więzy Nieba” oceniam na 9/10 i już nie mogę się doczekać trzeciego tomu!

Just Finished: The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

I just re-read this old childhood favorite so I could accurately compare it to Truly Devious. It holds up remarkably well! Twisty puzzles, a large cast of interesting characters, and a satisfying conclusion. Just remember that it takes place in the 80s so you’re not sitting there wondering why Turtle is looking up stocks in a newspaper...

Currently Reading: Lion Heart by @acgaughen

This is the third one in the series so I won’t say too much. It’s a Robin Hood retelling and I’m rather fond of the main character - Will Scarlet, noblewoman in disguise. She’s fierce and compassionate and crafty and flawed. Start with book one in the series: Scarlet.

On Deck: Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

A world where a global, nefarious Great Library governs the flow of knowledge! The main character plots to infiltrate the ranks of librarians to spy on them and learn their secrets. Do you see why I am all over this one? Can’t wait!

BookCon 2018 free book haul! The New York City Bookcon never disappoints. As always the angels working the booth made the con experience even better this year. Props to their ability to manage lines of hungry readers in an excited convention center. The signings and panels were a ton of fun and I felt like there were a wider array of authors signing books this year. Thank you A.C. Gaughen, Tahereh Mafi, Sarah Beth Durst and Nicola Yoon! Also, somehow Victoria Schwab managed to sign hundreds of her new ARCs at the con (possible magic). As always, the books above are only a small sample of the books that were given away over the two day period. (The romance and mystery novel booths were promoting some fabulous authors this year.)
