Kusakabe, dear, you're too beautiful to be saying that kind of stuff
#jjk spoilers#All the prettiest characters were brought back from apparent death#Nobara was okay and it's true that when I read the lawyer's and Kusakabe's fights against Sukuna I thought it was being kept vague#but to pull a Nobara with all of them... idk#No one stays dead here except for the people who actually care for the kids and by that I mean 'including Yuuji'#kinda lowkey bitter about it#Don't get me wrong I like the characters and also they're super pretty but idk It makes death feel cheap? And the high stakes kinda fake?#Choso Gojo and Nanami actual only characters who died apparently#Well. Poor Itadori#And Kusukabe goes and runs his mouth that way in front of the kid. He is not entirely wrong but also he very much is#And yes he also says 'don't worry it's not for you to feel guilty over anything you're just kids' but also he did very much say that thing#about it all being Gojo's fault for not killing Itadori. In front of Itadori who feels guilty for that precisely#and in front of Megumi who asked Gojo to spare him and also went through the experience of Sukuna using his body as well#So Kusukabe's reassurance about them just being kids and not to feel guilty falls a bit empty#It does feel in character but man it truly makes one appreciate the way Gojo and Nanami dealt with the kids a lot more haha#Ui Ui seems like a dear#Anyway... this chapter felt a bit lame for the most part for me? I like the idea of the characters discussing the could have/would have#and feeling guilt and helplessness over their choices but the way it was done felt a bit lame and without any real emotional punch#It felt more like an explanation to the reader in an awkward way. And there's a lot of empty chat about guilt and grief#without any of the characters really giving off a grieving air about everything and everyone they've lost#And this is precisely what I felt was going to happen with this manga's writing haha#I truly don't understand this kind of writing choices. Contrary to some other shonen writers this author did seem to have the potential#to write this kind of thing well besides the worldbuilding and powers and fight stuff. It's truly a pity. It so breaks my heart#And still this is considered one of the good shonens. Well. WELL haha#I do think shonen can be good! I just think it falls almost always even when there's potential into bery shallow writing#I don't know. Maybe I should read that one Alchemist manga#I've been repeatedly told that one's good and it does seem like it doesn't do... this. But I find the art style so not to my linking#I wish I had never gotten into JJK for real for real. I absolutely adore it. I always end up frustrated. It could be so good. Genuinely good#And yet it's just okay in a sort of forgettable way. What a pity#Everything good ever is present but it never dares do anything to fully explore what it sets. It just does the typical shonen stuff

You started this, so you must finish it.
A crossover fic of MHA and JJk with Itadori being the main character.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sukuna is dead. Itadori Yuji killed him. As Sukuna’s blobby body slowly faded into dust and so didn’t the blood on Yuji’s hands faded as well. And he was gone, just like that, just like nothing had ever happened, like he hadn’t ruined his whole life. Itadori fell to his knees, and the exhaustion that he had accumulated over the hours finally caught up to him, his head hitting the dirt ground. His limbs ached in so much pain but it was all over, at last.
It took a year for his life to be ruined, for all of the people he cared about were quickly dealt with, and a year for all of them to be gone. Sukuna, his ‘family’ had ruined his life. He killed his sensei, his friends, and everyone else in between. But it was all his fault, he ate the finger, he was the one who asked to live, it was all because of him. Megumi, his dear Megumi, who he killed in pure blood, without being able to hear his last words.
So much blood, blood that was only his, he was drowning in his blood, his metal-tasting monster blood. Yuji Itadori cried, his hands running over his face, his tears burning into his skin, his blood spreading all over his face. Sluggishly, he managed to pick himself up from the ground, his limbs shaking in pain. He wanted to scream, cry, or just do something, but he couldn’t, so he forced himself on his feet, his body spilling out the blood of the many scars on his face.
The pink-haired teenager stood up fully, and he just stared at the area around him, his domain was still up, despite all of the fight that went on just a few seconds ago, it still stood strong. A small straggler tear managed to escape his heated eye ducts, but he didn’t mind it, instead, he just started to walk. His legs moved without his brain even processing it, he just moved and moved and moved. While he walked, he looked at the area around him, the places that he showed to Sukuna, the places that he lived in.
What has Yuji done to deserve this? Was being a child of a monster not enough? Was being a vessel of a murder manic king not enough? Was the universe angry to see him joyful? Do they giggle and chuckle at his suffering? Do they enjoy the pain Yuji felt deep in his bones? Did the gods find him funny? Like a puppet in their silly play?
He hates this, he hates himself. Everyone is gone. Just because of him. Only because of him.
He should have died when he first ate that finger. The second he swallowed that accursed finger he should have turned into wet salty chum for the curses to eat fully and to never be hungry again. Or just get executed-hell terminated like he was supposed to. But no, he was stubborn and wanted to live, he begged and begged Gojo to let him live, to let him fight, and because of it, people died. Not just his friends, but normal people as well. He finally looked up, and his location finally came back to him, his domain. But instead of a calm, mostly dirt area, he was back in front of the train station, the train station where he started his walk with Sukuna earlier.
He just sighed, a bunch of tears swiftly flowing down his face and hitting the ground. He sat down on one of the silver benches right in front of the train tracks, staring at the tracks. Maybe jumping on the tracks would be better at this time, would he even die? After all, this is his domain. Out of nowhere, the train came in, and without even thinking about it, he walked in.
Every step he took was loud in the metal capsule and they echoed throughout the empty train. He tossed himself into the red cushioned seat, his blood seeping into the chair, closing his eyes for a second before forcing them open with his hands.
As his eyelids started to get heavier, more people appeared on the train. A little girl and her mother sat next to him, not giving him the time of day, almost like he wasn’t there. Maybe because of the blood loss, maybe because of the heat, because he just couldn’t take it anymore, a small little light appeared in front of him, shining softly at him. The ringing in his head strengthened, it hurt so bad and blurred his vision.
“Ÿ̸̧͕̙͔̤͉͔̰́̆̑̇͒ų̴͕̞̪̹̆̄̈́͊̃̓̓̇̑͂̽̿̽͊̃͋̚͝J̷̡̧͕̭̰̩͚̯̩̟̻̪̠̤͔̒̏́̋̾̌͌̾̏̉̐̆̿́́̎̑̓̕͝į̶̯͙̜̬͓̞̬̻̹̻̤͓͔͓̰͙̅̅̐̾͊̏̋̑͑̓̈̕͜͠͠ ̶̧̱̗͎͇̣̝̐̾̃̑̏̇̈́̀Í̴̡͕̣̬̘̼͔͚̫̯̐̿̊̾́́̓̕ͅẗ̶̡̳̺̭̟͓́̅̒͋̓̀̆͑̔̑A̸̛̒̇͆̄̏̈́̑͘ͅd̸̛̦̮̫̤̪̅͋̌͊͆̈́͋̍̎̈́̐͘Ơ̴̫̦̩̜̝͖̬̰͓͕͆̓̉̐̔̒̔̊͛͘ŗ̸͍̲̞̮͚͔͊ͅI̸̲̹̖͇̼̐̇̄́̔̒̇͘͜͝͠”

“Y̸u̴j̸i̸ ̶I̶t̴a̷d̴o̸r̷i̸”
“YUJI ITADORI” His name being yelled in his ear made him sit up, only then did he notice that once again, the train was empty,
“You must live, you must wake up, you must fight.”
“Do not give up, don’t lay your life down”
“Please… do this for us if you must”
Yuji slumped in his seat. ———————————————————————— BOOM A loud explosion-like sound came from outside of the UA building, smoke and dust rose in the air, covering the windows of class 1-A to the point that nothing was visible. The class all ran to the window to see what happened, after all, the sound came from the same place where they had been training just the day before.
Considering that it was only the second day of the new school year, the class of 1A was shocked. A bunch of questions quickly filled the room, everyone in extreme dismay.
“Was it a bomb?”
“No way! It's too early for that!” the non-visible girl choked out a sob,
“Girl, we are at the biggest hero school in the county, I feel like you should have been expecting something like this to happen…”
“NOT THIS EARLY!!”
“Was it a villain?” A muffle of random questions and silly remakers filled the classroom as they rapidly ignored the English lessons that Present Mic was previously heavily teaching.
“guys-”
“-I'm going to be soooo mad if it’s a villain! Let us have some time before you start doing something like this god damn it!”
“Real“
“Guys-”
“I'm so sleepy and tired of this shit, ribbit”
“Omg Asui! Nothing has happened yet! Be a little bit more calm!” the frog girl scowled at the other,
“Whatever, ribbit”
As the dust finally floated off, all that was there was a boy, from the distance the students were able to tell that he was a pretty large guy but he was probably around the same age as them as he was still small enough for it.
The dusty pink hair with dark splotches stood out, and so did his dark tattered clothes that were too old to be modern, some big scars that were seeping dark crimson blood onto the sandy dirt ground, and his non-moving body drowning in the blood drowned sand, that was his own.
Gasps of shock and immediate chat started in the classroom, most turning away so they wouldn’t throw up,
“OMG!”
“He’s fucked up bad!” the squared-teethed boy chuckled
“Shut the hell up Sero, this is serious!”
“…sorry geez Jirou” Present Mic dashed ran out of the room,
“Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone~ okay y'all!”
“Okay…” A few of the students managed to answer him, most talking to other students instead of answering him. A handful of minutes later some worker robots picked up the bloodied teenager and dragged him inside as carefully as they could, his blood trail following him.
The chatter in the classroom quickly started again,
“Omg! Who was he? Was he like a villain of some kind!?" The Alien girl questioned as she rubbed a piece of her hair, ”he didn’t seem like one though… he was kinda cute!"
“Mina dear, you couldn’t have seen his face from here,” Momo sighed and the pink-haired girl giggled,
“I could feel the attraction from here!”, Momo chuckled,
“Of course, you could,”
“I feel bad for him!” The now floating (in fear) brown-haired girl sighed, looking down at Midoriya, and Iida,
“He looked hurt, I hope he’s okay…”
“What if he’s a villain?” Midoriya questioned quietly, pulling her from the air,
“Still… he looked hurt” ———————————————————————— Being locked up and shoved into a dark room was not something that Yuji had expected to happen again for a long time but here he was. His eyesight was still blurry, the blood from the top of his head flowed into his eyes, not helping with his sight.
“Urg…” Geez his head felt like shit, all he remembered was passing out in the train in his domain and a voice calling for him, begging for his help… it felt warm and joyful for some reason that Yuji couldn’t place his finger on, like a sweet memory, almost like hope. Buzz. Buzz. The buzzing in his head hurt, a lot.
Yuji tried to rub his head but the handcuffs that were tightly on his hands stopped him. Shit. A rough rag wiped all of the blood off his face, even in his eye's corners. His ears finally started to pick up on the sounds in the room, the sound of multiple voices, probably adults, talking. As he finally opened his eyes fully, all he saw in the room were adults dressed in strange, corny outfits, just looking at him,
“Who are you?" The question came from the black-haired man sitting right before him, which hung in the air for a minute before Yuji even thought about saying anything to them. Yuji didn’t even bother to meet his eyes, only looking at the cold hard floor and his handcuffed hands. They sure seem mean to a guy who just dropped out of the air covered in blood.
A part of Yuji was still processing everything that was happening, going from the ruins of Shinjuku to this… happy-go-lucky place, clearly made by someone with a lot of money. The other part of Yuji was scared. Scared? Scared. So fucking scared. He hates this feeling, it feels like his soul is getting taken out of his body, and he needs to throw up. Now actually, right fucking now. Aizawa sighed at the lack of answers coming from the teenage boy, grumbling something about annoying kids,
“My name is…” He paused, his voice strained and almost crumbly, ”Yuji Itadori....” his voice was dry, caked, almost like a piece of drywall, it hurt so much to talk. The man sighed and so did his friends/coworkers, he wrote something down and looked back up at him,
“And how old are you” the man continued, tapping his pen on the desk lightly,
“15… I think, yeah. 15” Of course Yuji didn’t know about his age, he felt so different, a bit younger, or maybe it was Sukuna’s presence being gone from his soul. The scruffy man raised an eyebrow but continued to ask questions,
“Where do you come from?”
“Sendai, I haven’t been there in a while though”
“Do you have any parents or guardians that we could contact?” Yuji was about to open his mouth and give them Gojo-sensei’s number or Nanamin but then he remembered. Dead, cut in half, burned. Yeah, he almost forgot about that, almost,
“No…”
“Who were you living with then”
“I was living with my grandpa before he died so I’ve been hanging out with some friends”
“What’s your quirk” Hmm? What type of question is that? Considering that all of the questions before had been relatively important, a question about his personality? All of a sudden?
“Um, really good at acting like other people!” He said with a smile, trying to at least seem more friendly, even if he was breaking down inside and wanting to throw up. The looks he received didn’t anymore seem more friendly than before,
“…do you know what a quirk is?” He started to sweat, shit. He had to think,
“Like a superpower..??” His smile getting more nervous,
“Yes, exactly like that,” the man rubbed his forehead, clearly too annoyed to cover it, “so what’s yours?”
“Um, can I make my punching and kicks super strong?” The stupidity of Yuji was quickly showing, unfortunately. The throw-up that he forgot out was slowly climbing up his throat, it burned a bit. They all look around at each other nodding, the little mouse-rat-bear thing that Yuji had NOT noticed before quickly hopped on the table, smiling at him evilly,
“Hello, Yuji!” The rat said, looking at him for a reply with his bendy black eyes that looked like they were trying to tell him something,
“…Hello” his head nodded,
“I wanted it cut this short, we can’t find anything on you. No government documents, no information, no nothing. Therefore, we will be keeping you here! Right here at UA!” He said it in a cheerful but somewhat forceful tone, almost like Yuji didn’t have a choice and the mouse already knew it. Yuji thought about it, if this is a different world there are some major problems he’ll have if it is,
1. There is no way that he knows anyone in this world, at all.
2. If he knows no one in this world, he doesn’t have anywhere to live.
3. He has no money, not even a 10 yen coin. He didn’t bring any cash with him to Shinjuku, and even if he did, it would have been burnt and gone before he even got here. Okay, Yuji looks back into the eyes of the rat his eyes drifting to the necklace at his neck, and just nods,
“Thank you! There should be an open apartment near the school! I’ll send you there and-"
“Um, sir?”Yuji raised his hand(s) “Can I go to the bathroom, I need to pee?” The rat nodded and the police officer who was behind him uncuffed him and showed him in the direction of the bathroom.
The second he gets the chance, he runs, runs to the bathroom, running into the closest stall, almost slipping into it. He clutches the toilet bowl as tight as he can and starts to clear what feels like years of food out.
That rat, he knows something, the necklace around his neck had curse energy in it. It was a small amount, so small that other jujutsu sorcerers probably wouldn’t have noticed anything wrong, but Yuji did. No one else in the room had a lick of curse energy, even though they looked rather eccentric, they didn’t have any curse energy. He needed to crush that rat, the amount of curse energy was too small for him to tell who it was but he recognized that it was someone that he had felt before. A bunch of bile and blood forced itself to get out of his body. This world hurts. This hurts. Fuck that shitty little rat too.

so i got inspiration from a tiktok trend and literally wrote this in like 30 minutes before class so please forgive any mistakes, i read through it a couple times but might’ve missed something!
also i’m terrible at formatting, still working on it. so forgive if it’s bad 🙇🏼‍️ also spoilers ahead !! i tried to steer clear of manga stuff but definitely anime spoilers ahead so be careful !!
———————————————————————————
“you know how much i hate that everybody just expects me to bounce back…just like that.”
- Yuuji Itadori
They knock him down, he gets back up. they kill his friends, he gets back up. they take away his innocence, he gets back up.
he doesn’t just get up because of the fact that he’s the only one who can suppress Sukuna and do what he does, what his body was crafted for since before he was born. his simple purpose to hold back the pure spirit of evil itself. but also because if he let himself fall, if he let himself give up. everything, everyone, it means nothing. it’s in vain.
Yuuji feels solely responsible for EVERYTHING that has happened thus far, in the manga in the anime, even if it’s not something he out right says, it’s something he feels.
he feels responsible, he feels the crushing weight of guilt that holds him hostage. and instead of it chaining him to the ground,
it chains him to the sky.
forcing him to stand even when his legs shake and his lungs can’t take in enough air. he stands and he fights, he fights for his friends, his family, and for every innocent person who has seen destruction because of
‘him’.
it’s not the fact that everyone outside of him expects him to get up and keep getting up, it’s also cause he expects it from himself too.
he has to, or else he’s just as bad as
‘him’.
“cause they see right through me, they see right through me, they see right through. can you see right through me.”
- Megumi Fushiguro
Megumi has been carefully crafting a persona since he was very young.
knowing nothing but disdain and a distinct lack of care when it comes from the people who it really shouldn’t be.
he has crafted himself to be strong, to be independent, to never want, to never need. to drive those away who even think about wanting to help, to force their hand and their irritation. to push them so far they get lost on the way back.
his perfectly crafted indifference has saved him from the heartbreak that he keeps deep below the surface of his scarred skin.
his entire story started with heartache, with the death of his mother. the abandonment of his father. being sold to a clan that would treat him as nothing more than a pawn in this twisted game of chess. when his sister, his only lifeline to the kindness the world has tried to shove under, went into a coma. when his supposed caretaker, who through no fault of his own, doesn’t know how to raise a child. barely knew how to raise himself.
When the one friend he even thought of letting in has his literal heart ripped out in front of him.
Megumi has never let anyone in. But he wants to. he wants to be seen to fully and completely that there’s nowhere left for him to hide. No dark corner that hasn’t already be laid to waste by the brightness of their gaze.
Wants someone to know that this isn’t all he is, that his past doesn’t define them even though it may seem like it, even though he has crafted himself in a way to where it does.
he wants to be seen through, to not have the vulnerability of taking his walls down but for them to be simply seen through. for his bluffs to be called and his attitude to be brushed over with a sickly sweet fondness.
he wants and he wants and he wants, and yet no one has been there to give, to see.
“Always an angel, never a god.”
- Nobara Kugisaki
To her left, the Ten Shadows User. probably the only person on this face of the planet that could beat Gojo Satoru.
To her right, Sukunas vessel. armed with inhuman strength and agility.
staring down at her hammer and nails, her straw doll feeling unnaturally heavy in her pocket. she’s never felt more inadequate, more out of her league in her life.
even when the cruelty of the adult world was shoved on her shoulders when she watched the only adult figure in her life to care, to care deeply enough about her.
inferior might have been a better way to put it.
she could barely hold a candle to the two boys that have made a home beside her, set up their small tents in the warm cavern on her chest. the resentment curls cruelly around their campsite.
as she attempts to compensate her supposed lack with loud insults and intense anger. forcing them to carry bags, to be on the receiving end of many kicks and punches.
a small part of her hates them, hates them for being better so effortlessly.
hates yuuji for being so kind, so tender. for caring even when she’s tried and tried to push him away.
hates megumi for his indifference and disdain, for his seeming lack of interest in a field she has committed to dedicating her entire life too.
something she chose, something she pursued through her own sweat, blood and tears. to be booted out so quickly by two who were forced into the world, who never had the choice. it made her sick, the hot resentment clawing at her throat as she choked out another shrill insult and shoved another paper bag into a callused hand.
in the end, the resentment bleed out on the cold tile of the train station as she remembered the good, remembered her friends for one last time.
in the end, it never truly mattered

Horrortober Day 5: Disturbance “Nothing can interrupt us now.”
I will admit I wrote this one way too late into the night. I should go to sleep yikes :’D Enjoy!
Warnings: Yandere, Body Horror, Kidnapping, Molestation, Harrassment, Sexual Innuendos/Actions Characters: Sukuna x Reader
Tumblr media
It was rare to see the King of Curses calm and even a little approachable.
Not that you liked seeing him at all, but you preferred it this way than any other. Ever so often, he peeked out of Itadori Yuji’s face, taunting you, belittling his host. However, you were just glad to get through with your work that day, teaching the boy the necessary theory he had to learn. You’d be gone before you had to deal with the host or the curse inside of him, just like every day. Routine, that’s what Nanami called it. Routine would benefit all of you, but you still hadn’t come around to like what you were forced to do.
Morally, it was wrong to call the boy a curse. He ate something cursed, and now he was beyond screwed, but still… Whenever you saw him, pure survival instinct ran through your veins. You wanted to defeat him, end this miserable life, but you weren’t allowed. Sorcerers weren’t supposed to teach curses, just kill. But you were torn between your orders and duty, looking at what was sitting in front of you.
Asking other sorcerers for their opinion on the matter, and you were faced with the same responses. The same struggle and conflict you were facing, except, maybe, Gojo, who seemed to be unbothered by what he dragged into your holy halls. However, the most unnerving thing that came up in conversation was how often Sukuna showed himself in your class… but not in the others. Given, they did see the casual third or fourth eye, or one mouth too many. Still, even if the others were unnerved, they chose to ignore, while you were the only one to actually have spoken to the king—though it was no honor.
“Brat, the teacher’s staring.” Instantly, Yuji’s attention shifted to the extra mouth on his cheek and then to you, expecting you to say something. You quickly caught your composure, not having realized you’ve been staring - probably in disgust - at him, almost feeling bad. Clearing your throat, you picked up your book again, shaking your head in denial before continuing to monotonously read the text inside of it out loud. Sorcerer history hadn’t been your favorite subject either, but you were stuck with it, unfortunately. Yuji was diligent enough, but even while you read, you couldn’t get your mind off the threat in front of you.
Especially not when long, clawed fingers gripped your book by the spine, lowering it with surprising force.
“No, you’ve been staring. There’s no denying it, Sorcerer, spit it out,” Sukuna grinned at you cheekily, having temporarily taken over your real student.
“I was trying not to vomit looking at you,” you snarled back, slapping his hand away that he retracted in fake hurt. “Bad liar,” he called you before the marks suddenly faded, Yuji going back to being himself.
“Ah, sorry about that,” he muttered apologetically like so many times before. And you sighed, assuring him it wasn’t his fault.
»»————————
It wasn’t his fault either when Sukuna cornered you in one of the hallways around the school. Being cornered by strong two arms did not give you the butterflies that all these novels always tried to sell. Granted, you flinched pretty hard, but once you were face to face with him, your anger far outweighed your fear. He was scary, no question asked. Sukuna could destroy you with a flick of his finger. But somehow, naively so, you didn’t believe he would. Something about ‘he could have, but he hasn’t’ made you bold apparently. Stupidly so.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” you hissed, and he rolled his eyes. Yuji’s body looked stupidly wasted on him, the boy being such a ray of sunshine in contrast to his evil counterpart. Sukuna didn’t become him. His attitude didn’t.
“You’ve been staring at me,” he repeated. Why was the topic so important to him?
“So what? What is it to you?” you returned snidely. Lips curling into a grin, you felt like you had actually humored him. Not the direction you wanted to go with the King. “Well, I wanted a good look at you…” he mumbled, his eyes driving from the shirt on your collarbones to the shoes you were wearing slowly, noticeably, and… lusty.
“...too,” he finished his sentence before licking his lips.
“Disgusting,” you whispered dryly, staring at him perturbed, and Sukuna chuckled at your obvious rejection.
“Well, I have what I wanted.”
Before you could repeat, he disappeared, leaving behind a slumping student of yours, and you cursed the King of Curses quietly, dropping everything to had in your arms to support Yuji. “Asshole,” you mumbled, and for a brief moment, you thought you heard him chuckle again, but you couldn’t be sure.
»»————————
It was him. He was planning something all along, and you knew it.
But no one could see it since this plan almost exclusively involved you.
“Shrivel and die,” you told him through gritted teeth, pushing at his chest as hard as you could. Sukuna was undeterred, pressing you against the old chalkboard and nibbling on your earlobe. Why did no one believe you when you swore up and down that he wasn’t just a quiet bystander? That he indeed was trying to do something—or someone?
“I do love a filthy mouth,” he sighed, making you want to throw up just from the implications alone. Even with your elbow between you, there was no movement. The other sorcerers had told you about Yuji’s strength, but you didn’t think you couldn’t handle it. Apparently, however, you couldn’t, and it was infuriating. While Sukuna was doing as he pleased, you decided on a different approach, opening your mouth to scream.
Finally, it caused some reaction in him, his head recoiling at the jarring sound, but before long, your lips were captured with his, a fight breaking out between your mouths. He was trying to silence you efficiently with his tongue in your throat, the mere thought of kissing a student repulsing you, and you were biting at his lips which didn’t seem to bother Sukuna at all.
“Someone will come,” you reminded him fiercely as he broke away to give you some air.
“Silly,” he only commented before kissing you again. You were hammering at his chest, trying to make your disapproval evident, but it was to no avail. Sukuna wouldn’t budge. Only when he, mercifully, allowed another breath, you screamed again, using your palms to defend from his face closing in to shut you up. The weight of his body was pressing you into the wall painfully, but realizing your powers simply wouldn’t show no matter how hard you tried was even worse. Did he have some kind of ability that stole your energy from you? Was it fear that blocked you from using it? Were you afraid?
You were.
It was indeed silly, even if it was painful to agree with Sukuna. You never feared for your life, taking every day and mission as it came. But you were scared now because of the monster in front of you. You had been right: you should have killed him when you could. Stupid! Absolutely stupid to keep around!
Even you understood that it wasn’t death you feared. You feared Sukuna’s presence and the effects it had on you. How defenseless you were suddenly and how, even though he always disappeared in the end after annoying you, he just didn’t seem to let go of you now.
“Scream some more,” he taunted, and you weren’t going to object. Immediately, you put up the fight again, feeling your lungs clench when you robbed them of all the air to get some help. But nothing happened. “I like it when they struggle,” Sukuna laughed, crazy, madly, victoriously. As if he won a war you didn’t know about.
“Come, open your eyes! Look where you are!” he encouraged you, grinning from ear to ear. Confused, you looked around, seeing the same old classroom that you always had when teaching Yuji. The sight slowly began to shift, fog collecting at your feet and the walls moving unnaturally under your gaze. You’ve been scared before, but it was nothing compared to what you felt as everything shifted.
You hadn’t realized it.
Not for one moment did you know he activated his domain, something no one had been able to explore until now. It was different from what you expected, much more vast and deadly. But you also saw the remainders of the classroom, and you wondered how much of it was taking up the actual reality. Horrified, you looked around, now knowing your screams wouldn’t echo for no one but you two here. You always thought you were a decent sorcerer but maybe… maybe you were nothing at all. At least not in the eyes of Sukuna.
“Finally,” Sukuna sighed, satisfied and seemingly exhausted by effort you didn’t know he was making. “Nothing can interrupt us now. I just needed you to lower your guard.”
“You…” Your mumble was met with deafening silence. Not even Sukuna’s breathing made a sound in this space, and you immediately felt claustrophobic in the pitch black that encased the realm. His realm.
“I was nice. I waited. Those… manga said it was proper in these times, though, I don’t care for them. But you kept staring at me as if you were trying to kill me. Do you know how hard it was to wait? A king shouldn’t have to wait-no. I shouldn’t have to wait for you when you are coming on to me.”
Blinking a few times, you looked back at him. Perhaps, for the first time, you were truly meeting his gaze, always finding a reason to not look at him directly before. But not anymore. Now you were indeed looking at him, not remembering those times he said you stared when this was the first and only time you really saw him. “It’s been too long that I had company. How nice of you to offer yourself up to me~”
“I never did-” you tried to argue, but you were swept into another kiss, flailing in his arms as you feared falling. Endlessly. You could no longer discern where the realm started and ended. “You’re mine now,” he growled, unhinged.
“I will devour you, Looker. It’s punishment for not welcoming me sooner. There’s a lot to make up for.”
You’ve never seen Sukuna calm before. Because if what you had witnessed was what you called calm, it had been because he was waiting for the right moment. The right moment to pounce, and to your misery, it was now. Stares could kill, people said. It was true, you found out, as you killed yourself with it by making the King of Curses recognize you. Though, you wished you were dead.
You merely killed your freedom with your actions, as there was no way Sukuna would let you have that ever again after you piqued his interest unwillingly.

Tumblr media
    Constant twisting and turning, the fight replaying in your head. You couldn’t relax, no, the events from a few days ago had been keeping you awake for who knows how long. Eyes bloodshot, strained from being kept open all day, yet you couldn’t close them. You had paid no thought to anyone gracious enough to give you attention, instead spending most of your time to yourself in your room.      Your curtains were kept shut, and a steadily growing mountain of tissues was getting taller and taller. The room was completely black, and only filled with your sniffling. To be quite honest, you didn’t know why you were crying. You won the fight, sure, but you felt so useless and insignificant compared to the likes of your peers.     You knew your role, but it was horrifying. Fighting curses wasn’t something new to you, you grew to enjoy it as a sport of some sorts, but this fight left some sort of mental scar on you. Images of the curse controlling humans like they were puppets on strings, and you had to kill every. single. last. one.      They looked so human, so scared of what was happening to them, their shocked faces eventually growing into solemn, dark ones. While Megumi and Nobara were off on their own mission, you had been left with Yuuji to kill the curse, perhaps it was a stroke of unluckiness, but you had been instructed to kill something you swore you wouldn’t kill; humans.      You knew your boyfriend, Yuuji was taken aback too, his carefree happy-go-lucky personality evaporating into thin air, instead replaced with a neutral face. You didn’t have the power to conceal your tears like he did though, even just a few minutes away from the battlefield, you let them flow free, but you did the job anyways. You saw him stare at you, worry evident on his features from the corner of your eyes.     Laying back down on your bed, you sniffled, dabbing at your eyes. You felt like a killer, something inhumane. Lost in your thoughts, you stared at your ceiling and thought of better days or random scenarios.      Knock. Knock. Knock.      The knocking was quiet at first, calm, and you figured it was Nobara willing to help you, she had done it a few times before when you came back from traumatic missions. You found it hard to relate to her though, and even though you appreciated her keeping you in her thoughts, you just didn’t want any contact right now.      The knocking grew more aggressive, and you knew that wasn’t Nobara. Nobara was kind when she was trying to help someone, putting her usual sassy behavior aside to comfort them. You knew she wasn’t going to rapidly knock at your door, in fact she would’ve left by now.       “Who is it?” you mumbled, lifting your covers up and sliding into the warmth, hiding most of your face with the blanket. The only thing that was out were your eyes.      “Uhhh... Yuuji? Your boyfriend?” a voice nervously croaked, muffled. “The door’s locked, but I came here to give you some sweets! Gojo-Senpai brought them earlier for everyone to share, and I grabbed some flavors for you that I thought you’d like.”       You shot back up, candy didn’t sound that bad right now.      “Come in.” you respond, shuffling around with the tiny amount of time you had left to make your room look just a bit more presentable.      “The door’s locked.” you heard him stifle a laugh pathetically, you could hear it from your bed.      “Shit! That’s my fault.” fast-walking towards the door, you stumbled. Dirty clothes were strewn about, a mix of empty snack bags also in the mess. It would be impossible to clean this all up in just 5 minutes without Yuuji growing suspicious. Taking a deep breath in, you threw the laundry you could find closest to you into the laundry basket. You didn’t want the love of your life seeing you like this.     You didn’t have enough time to fix your hair, and it seems Yuuji reads your mind. “Don’t worry about how you look, by the way. Actually, lovebug, don’t worry about anything okay? Just open the door.” he says it with a mixture of doubt and  anxiety.      You feel your expression soften, this was one of the things you loved about Itadori Yuuji. He was mild, he knew when to joke or not, and this time it seemed like he was keen on making you happy. Reaching out to unlock the door knob, you pause, still worried about how ugly you might look, but you open the door anyways.       And there stood Itadori Yuuji, dumbly looking at you, a pile of wrapped candies cupped in the palm of his hands. Once it seems to register through your mind that you standing in front of him, he tosses the candy aside, the colorful wrappers raining down on the both of you, and hugs you.       It’s a deep bear hug, and your arms loosely wrap around his too, steadily getting tighter and tighter as you realize how much you truly missed this. Head snuggling deep into his shoulder and breathing in his scent. So friendly and inviting, you stay in his embrace for a few more seconds, and your mind is finally at ease for just a little.       “Hey there, sweetie.” he finally says, lifting his head up after what seemed like eons, a small smile on his lips. He looks so cheerful, leaning in and kissing the top of your forehead before pulling back, studying your face.        You feel utterly self conscious, pushing his face back with your hand.        “Hey. I’m kind of crusty and I haven’t washed my face in a while-”        Yuuji doesn’t give you another second to finish, instead smothering your face with even more kisses, and your skin heats up as soon as the first sloppy chaste puppy kiss is placed.        “Fuck, I mean, fudge. What are you talking about (Y/N)?!” he looks at you like you’re a giant spider, concerned. “You’ve gotta be blind.”        “You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen.”         You swallow a squeal, instead giving him a small smile, something that you hadn’t done in days. It feels so good to see him again.         “Hey- get back in bed, okay? I’ll be back in a jiffy, I’ve gotta pick all these candies up.” Yuuji kisses the tip of your nose again, using his fingers to pull at your cheeks. It’s been a while since you’ve seen his smile, and you realized just how quickly you had forgotten that his eyes almost closed when he smiled, simply because of how big and toothy it was.        “Yeah. Okay.” you say, before turning your back on him, you look down, and he’s looking back at you, knees on the floor. One hand is already half filled with the candies, and he gives you yet another shit-eating grin, flashing a quick thumbs up before continuing to pick up the wrappers. You giggle, you suddenly felt so bubbly.        Immediately leaping into your bed, you watch him, feet swaying in the air picking up the candies. Yuuji’s muttering under his breath about God knows what, and only then do you realize how lucky you were to have him.        Not long after, he skips over to your bed, closing the door behind him, hopping on one leg and taking his beaten up shoes off. Humming a tune, his fingers flicked on the light switch, you note how he looks so genuinely happy. Setting the candies down onto the blankets, he glances at you with these sort of stone cold serious eyes, as if he meant business.       Those feelings return back again. What’s with the stare?       “Hey. (Y/N).” he places a reassuring hand on your shoulder, rubbing your skin, goose bumps suddenly covering your skin. “I know I was only here to give you candies- and it’s true I was, I’m actually really concerned about you.” Yuuji too crawls onto your bed.       “Get nice and comfy okay? Here.” he digs into his pajama pockets, and pulls out a pre-packaged kikufuku mochi. “I know Gojo-sensei says no sweets after bedtime, but I sneaked one for you from his office because I thought It’d make you feel better.”        You take it without another word. The thought was nice, after all.       “Have you eaten, princess?” he breathes, placing a hand onto your forehead. “You seem really warm, do you need any water?”        He was suddenly so serious, you don’t how to respond. At first you look at him, hoping your eyes tell him all he needs to know, but he looks unblinkingly back, and it seems like he wants an answer, stat.        “No. I haven’t. Water wouldn’t be bad.” you answer, looking down at your lap. Why did it feel like you disappointed him?        “I’ll ask Gojo-sensei to maybe order takeout, It’s not that late. Do you have any water in your room? I don’t want to leave you right now.”        Something about this conversation was awkward, and you didn’t like it.        “Yeah, I don’t know where though.”        “That’s okay, snugglekins. I’ll retrieve them! Don’t you worry.” he rubs your hair so gently, it’s like the hand isn’t even there.        “The room is really messy-”        Yuuji looks at you, a bit annoyed, which you guess was justifiable, but still acting friendly. “I know, but all that matters to me right now is you, not you’re room.” he’s crawling on the ground now.      “You’re acting too serious.” you cheekily retort back mindlessly, covering your mouth as you do so.        “I know I am, but when my girlfriend is thinking and acting like this, I need to make sure you feel better.” he tosses you a water bottle, and you nod your thanks, the crinkling music to your ears. You twist the cap off, and take a long swig out. The liquid was refreshingly cold.      “No candy until you tell me what’s going on, okay? If you don’t want to tell me, that’s okay, but just... Tell me what I can do to make you feel better. I hate seeing you sad.”      “Are you my dad or something?” you joke, but he squints at you, not cracking a single smile.        Then, he draws out a long, “Ohhhhhhhhhh!” for a second, eyes widening before stroking his chin, like one of those wide grandpas with the long beards you see in those Chinese dramas.       He splutters for a split second, before coughing. “Well, I am merely a wise old man. I must offer you my intellect... And I’m slightly forgetful, so you know- jokes don’t occur to me very well.” he even said it in an old man voice.        “That was horrible.” is all you state. You silently appreciate his stupid humor, even in what seemed to be a serious situation.       “Thanks!” he chirps. Then he hops back into the bed, he too slipping under the comforting blankets. “Now, tell me, what’s on your mind?’        “Nothing.” you say sheepishly.       “Stop lying to meee, come on. No judging.” his fingers weave into yours, and your breath hitches.        “Promise?”        “Promise.” his fingers tighten around yours as he says this.        Taking a deep breath in, you straighten, leaning yourself against his shoulder, and Yuuji doesn’t move, adjusting to the newfound weight.         Tears start forming as soon as you open your mouth to speak. “I just really hated how I had to- you know. Kill... Humans. A-and, It’s just that I feel really.... Guilty?” you phrase it like a question almost, and you take a shuddering deep breath in, it was going all out or never.         He nods his head, and you take this as a sign to continue. “I just... I feel so useless.. I feel like you didn’t even c-care? A-and..” tears start railing down your cheeks, and you blink like it’s the last think you have to do. “Fuck. Fuck this. I hate this. I hate being so s-soft, and so weak. Why can’t I be like you, or Nobara, or Megumi?”         His thumbs brush your tears away, and he looks at you, so gently and kindly it’s like the wind is touching you. Genuine eyes made you feel so comforted and safe. Like he wouldn’t judge you for a damn thing you’d say.         “You’re wrong.” he says, finally speaking.         You cock your head, as a way of coaxing him to continue.         You feel his chest expand, and fall again, taking in a deep breath. “I did care. I hated the thought of calling people like that, but honey-” he looks down at your face, and he can just tell you’re interested. “These people were put in so much misery, of course we had to kill them. They were in pain, and being used as puppets.”         “But they looked just like a human, and... They even had, you know... Their own, uh, unique voices. And the things they said..” more tears started rapidly falling.         “Hey.” he puts a hard grasp onto your arm when you try to wipe them away. “Stop. You have to constantly remind yourself, these people were being controlled and put through so much excruciating pain. It’s so hard, and it was even harder not to break down and cry in front of you. But we did it together anyways, and we need to get out of this stronger, okay? The missions later on will be even harder, and I want to work alongside you- not just protect you”         The last sentence punched you right in the gut, it felt so right hearing it come out of his mouth, and you start full on sobbing, rubbing your wet face into his t-shirt, your tears seeping into the fabric. You’re full aware he probably needs to change, but you don’t care. You truly missed him, even though it had only been a few days.         “Fuck. I love you.” you croaked, giving him a sloppy, even wetter peck on the check.        “I love you too, princess.”        He really was your escape from the reality of being a Jujutsu sorcerer.

Relationship HC’s: Itadori Yuuji ! <3 [x gender neutral reader]
A/N: hi!!! my name is nina and this is the first post i’m making on my blog ! i wrote headcannons for Yuuji, Megumi and Gojo, which will all be posted back to back! for every character, i included songs that remind me of them, and just songs that make me think of the kind of relationship you’d have with them! i hope you enjoy!
Warnings: none! just a lot of fluff
WC: approx. 1,300 !
Itadori Yuuji
(song: Sunflower Vol. 6 , Upside Down by Jack Johnson , Hey Lover! by Wabie , The Muffin Song by ASDFMovie I’M SO SORRY-)
- oh man... it’s just chaos
- especially towards the beginning of the relationship
- he’s super flustered, but is also trying to impress you
- he doesn’t go out of his way to impress you at first, but he gives the subtle flex of his biceps and does an over-the-top move during a sparring match.
- usually, this ends with him being decked to the ground because he wasn’t paying attention, but the spirit is obviously there 🥺
- you’re his first relationship... and it’s obvious he doesn’t have experience.
- he’s clingy and a bit childish at times, but that doesn’t mean he goes over the top. ever. he has a lot of energy and says a lot of things without thinking which can cause him to be categorized as being childish.
- but regardless he’s always trying to get better and improve; he’s a fast learner. he’s just a little stupid sometimes
- i know he said he likes women like jennifer lawrence... don’t worry y’all he’s just very straight. he doesn’t mean it <3
- anyway, back to him being clingy.
- at first when it came to kisses and cuddles, he was shy. like... really shy
- he’ll be the one to initiate everything when he gets comfortable with the idea, but when he’s used to it all, get ready for CONSTANT kisses and cuddles
- he isn’t super full-on with his PDA at all, but not because he’s embarrassed or doesn’t want to show you off
- (because he definitely does)
- it’s just that his idea of PDA is him holding your hand and swinging it back and forth as you walk down the street; him giving you back hugs randomly throughout the day, and little kisses on your temple
- just not like full-on making out in the middle of the room in front of everyone. oh no not at all
- basically he loves the fun things! and everything about a relationship with him is fun
- he’s the type to want to take you to a new place for every date. you name it, (or don’t, he can and will surprise you) and he’ll take you there no questions asked
- he wants to explore every corner of the earth, and the fact that it’s with you just adds to the fun that much more. soon after, he won’t want to explore any new places without you holding his hand through the experience.
- he loves the way you both react the same way; eyes lighting up and the grip on your intertwined hands tightening every time you get off the train and arrive at your destination.
- you’re just his second half 🥺
- his love language is definitely through touch and his random gestures. random gestures such as taking you to a garden because, “there’s a statue that looked just like you.” and when you finally made it, it’s a statue of a dead poet from 100 years ago.
- “yuuji, are you trying to tell me i’m old and ugly or something?”
- “WHAT? NO! you’re just smart and he looks really smart.”
- “...did we come here just so you could tell me that?”
- “...maybe.”
- he buys you sweets to make up for being an idiot again
- yuuji just wants someone who’s patient with him, someone who doesn’t get moody every time he messes up which is a lot
- he’s really grateful for you being so patient with him. he’s really trying!
- ANYWAY ! now for cuddling yuuji
- soft. soft....... sawft.......
- he likes cuddling only in your bed or on the couch. and yes. your bed only.
- he also always cuddles with his shirt off because he “gets too warm”
- this is the time where he just talks your ear off about his day. if you paid close attention sometimes it doesn’t even make any sense
- you usually zone out a few minutes in. you can’t help it, and he doesn’t blame you. you just mindlessly nod in agreement, or shake your head in disapproval occasionally as you comb your fingers through his hair, looking up at him while lying on his chest
- he loves it so much
- and he’s the big spoon. always.
- MOVING AWN
- he doesn’t consider hanging out as dates; he considers the time you share in the comfort of your home as the baseline of your relationship.
- basically, he wants to be around you 24/7 like i said, he’s clingy but it’s cute 🥺
- and when you’re sad he comforts you so well 🥺 like he doesn’t want to work out the problem he just wants to make sure you feel better
- he holds you close, letting you lie on his chest while he tells you that it wasn’t your fault
- “yeah well, they’re stupid for how they treated you, yaknow. if you want i can beat th-“
- “please don’t kill them, yuuji.”
- kisses with him are super playful; he obviously thinks they’re all fun. they’re not super deep, but they’re loving in a really playful way.
- it’s obvious he loves playful kisses when about 70% of them occur when he has your cheeks squished in one hand while he gives you dozens of pecks all over your lips
- but anyway he’ll also suggests baking with you during your hangouts........please tread lightly
- you might get some bomb ass cookies or your entire kitchen will be burnt down. don’t let your guard down for a SECOND.
- definitely goes through all of the kitchen utensils you own guessing what each of their uses are
- and he’s wrong about 90% of the time
- he thought the garlic press was for shredding cheese
- “okay, okay walk me through your thinking again, yuuji.”
- “well, if you put a block of cheese in here and squeeze, it’s going to be shredded, right?”
- “....sure.”
- as long as you can laugh with him and not at him he’s a-okay with you pointing out his mistakes
- explain it to him!!! he just wants to know and learn!! bby
- in conclusion, very fun and chaotic. never a dull moment with him. he loves you whole-heartedly and WILL show it with everything he does.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~♡~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you seemed to find a way to trip over everything you possible could as you exited the train station. one of yuuji’s hand found purchase on your waist, holding you steady while the other rested over your eyes.
“okay, okay, c’mon babe. we’re almost there.” he urged, subtly trying to push you forward.
“yuuji, can you take your hands off of my eyes now? i’ve ran into about five people now.” you sigh as you stumble on the cement between your feet.
“hold on, hold on. we’re almost... there... and...” he giggled before removing his hands with a flourish. “TA-DA!!”
your eyes fluttered open, squinting to adjust to the bright lights of the city.
“you said you’ve never been to tokyo, so i had to bring you.” he was grinning ear to ear. he was practically vibrating where he stood, eager to hear your response to his surprise.
“yuuji... i...” you looked around, the more the lights of the buildings stared back down at you, the more of those butterflies in the pit of your stomach ignited with excitement.
“what? is something wrong? why aren’t you saying anything?” his head cocked to the side in confusion.
“i love it yuuji. thank you so much.” you giggled.
his face shifted into an obvious state of content, gingerly grabbing your hand as he began skipping down the pavement and into your next adventure together.
Damn You, Megumi Fushiguro.
Sukuna taking Megumi's body is not only an exciting plot twist, but by switching bodies Sukuna has also switched and flipped a lot of aspects of Megumi and Yuji's dynamic. Now, Megumi is the one in trouble in need of saving, Megumi is the one who's losing their body to Sukuna, and presumably afterwards it's Megumi who will bear the guilt of everyone he hurt during his possession. Talk about Megumi and Yuji's relationship and how things have changed, under the cut.
1. Start by Saving Me
This is just more proof for how well foreshadowed this twist is of Yuji and Megumi switching hopes. The words Megumi himself uses to motivate Yuji to keep fighting after Shibuya is by asking him to start by saving him.
Tumblr media
Now, Yuji is literally the only one capable of putting up a fight against Sukuna in Megumi's body. Yuji's only goal right now is to save Megumi from Sukuna's possession. Yuji's resolve to save Megumi from Sukuna also comes at a point where he was just about to give up and get ready to die.
Tumblr media
Yuji's only desire was to give up his life in one final act of heping Megumi and freeing Gojo and then disappearing. However, that's no longer an option for him if he wants to save Megumi right now. Sukuna putting Megumi is jeapordy is quite literally the only thing that motivated him to keep fighting and keep living.
Just, notice the change. Yuji has been looking for a place to die the entire culling games, somewhere to end it all in a big heroic sacrifice so he will not have to live with the guilt of unleashing Sukuna in Shibuya.
Tumblr media
However, when Sukuna taunts him that the weak should just die instead of clinging to life we're now treated with Yuji fighting back and enduring Sukuna's attempts to kill him. This is the same character who declared he was guilty when fighting Higuruma so Higiruma could use the executioners sword on him. The same one that was going to let Hana exorcise him.
Tumblr media
Yuji can no longer save Megumi by dying, so his only choice is to live. This fight also mirrors a lot of moments in Megumi and Itadori's fight at the beginning of the culling games arc. For instance, Yuji believes that it's his fault for losing control of Sukuna in Shibuya, and that he is the murderer no matter how many people try to persuade him otherwise.
Tumblr media
He only is persuaded to work with all the rest of them when Megumi offers to bear the burden of guilt with him by insisting it's not Yuji's fault alone but "our fault." Being selfish and giving up on his own was also something that Yuji was about to do.
Tumblr media
However, now quite literally Megumi and Yuji are both sharing the sin of letting Sukuna out on another rampage. Megumi is experiencing the same loss of control that Yuji did. While Yuji takes all the blame for Sukuna's rampage, and essentially views Sukuna's actions as his own. A result of his own weakness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Megumi's body is possessed by Sukuna however, notice that Yuji only views Sukuna as the enemy. He doesn't view Megumi and Sukuna as the same entity, and he doesn't conflate Megumi's actions with Sukuna, or blame Megumi for losing control of is own body. This is in effect Yuji's selfishness, he wants to hog the guilt all to himself.
Tumblr media
Yuji is also now put in a similiar situation that Megumi was in the cursed womb arc. WHen Sukuna took control of Yuji's body, Megumi didn't even think of killing Yuji on the spot despite losing control. Megumi's desire was to just selfishly save Yuji again despite the danger he possessed, and during the fight he his only strategy was to put up enough of a fight that he could force Sukuna to regenerate Yuji's heart.
That fight ended with Yuji dying in front of Megumi, absolutely devastating him but Yuji who died in self sacrifice didn't really have to bear the pain of that action. Now, imagine if that was inflicted on Yuji. If Megumi dies as a result of the possession despite all of Yuji's best effort to save him, and Yuji who was ready to sacrifice himself is instead forced to be the survivor.
Yuji is having his own idea that he can selflessly sacrifice himself for the sake of his loved ones and everything will work out deconstructed right in front of his eyes, because he never considered the pain that Megumi would have to bear if he died. If it's the other way around, if it's Megumi who would have to be sacrificed, Yuji could not even bear that.
2. It's Our Fault.
Megumi's possession came about in part by Megumi never taking any of Yuji's warnings about Sukuna's plans for him seriously. He also, from the beginning never seemed to understand the guilt Yuji felt for the amount of people who died in Shibuya.
Tumblr media
He was pretty easily able to just get over the guilt and brush it off by saying that no one has the right to judge us. However, Megumi has not been in Yuji's situation. From the start of the manga, Yuji's always the one who's been in danger of having his body taken over by Sukuna and Megumi's been the one protecting him. The reason I say their dynamic has been flipped, is because we have learned recently that one of our assumptions that Yuji is the only one who could possibly serve as a vessel for Sukuna has already been proven wrong.
Tumblr media
Megumi always had the potential to be a vessel for Sukuna from the beginning of the manga, right along Yuji. If Yuji is a one in a thousand years chosen vessel capable of holding Sukuna, then so is Megumi. It flips a lot about their dynamic to have Megumi suddenly be the one losing his body to Sukuna. After all, say Megumi regains control of his body back and Sukuna is still there inside of him.
Let's say that Hana has survived her fall (which plot wise she kind of is important as the only one who can get Gojo out of the box unless Gojo is going to stay inside there forever), now we know Hana could never fully exorcise Sukuna from Megumi. He's too important to her.
The main characters no longer have the easy option of exorcising Sukuna using Hana's powers, because she might have done it to Yuji who's practically a stranger but has already shown she won't do it to Megumi. Not only that but if Hana won't exorcise Megumi but still stays with the group it might set her into conflict with Angel who only decided to cooperate with her to exorcise the disgraced one.
If Sukuna stays in Megumi, now it will be Megumi as the one who has to devour all twenty of Sukuna's fingers and then be executed rather than Yuji. It's Megumi who's future is cut off from him, who's destined to die in a heroic sacrifice rather than Yuji.
In Yuji's mind Gojo and Megumi both gave him a role to play, collect all of Sukuna's fingers and then die exorcising that curse from the world but that role is no longer his it's Megumi. It's like they were characters in a story, Yuji saw himself as the main character that makes the big sacrifice to save the world and suddenly he's lost his protagonist status. It's Yuji who would be the survivor now, who gets to live on with the guilt of knowing he could not save Megumi. It's Yuji now who wants to selfishly save Megumi and have him keep living despite the danger he represents by being possessed by Sukuna.
On the flip side as I said above, Megumi has no comprehension of the guilt Yuji bears for letting Sukuna possess him in Shibuya. While Megumi frequently states "I am totally okay with murder", Megumi is deep down a person who wants to be good, wants to save and help others like Tsumiki and Yuji he just doesn't believe in any of his own goodness. Ther is no way he would be guilt free for letting Sukuna rampage and hurt people like Yuji and Hana. Megumi never really understood the guilt Yuji felt for killing people, and was easily able to justify any person he decided to kill in his own head.
If it was for the sake of saving Yuji, if it was for the sake of saving Tsumiki he was easily able to justify killing people. Now look where he is, not only did he completely fail in saving Tsumiki, but he's the one harming Yuji. Megumi has gone from the one saving Yuji to the one in need of saving, and he will most likely like he said at the start of this arc now carry the guilt of all the people he's killed alongside Yuji. Letting Sukuna go was the mistake they made together.
Now we have Megumi fighting back on the inside, and why? It's because one of them dying in some self sacrificing stunt and leaving the other one behind was never going to be the right thing to do. The manga is essentially challenging both of their desires to sacrifice themselves by showing Megumi the guilt that Yuji bears for hurting people while possessed, and Yuji the pain he's forcing Megumi to go through when he tries to sacrifice himself for the greater good.
While things seem dark now, this conflict is a necessary one because it's the only way for both of them to learn that it's selfish to blame yourself, hog the guil all to yourself, and then die saving someone else. Both Megumi and Yuji need to save each other and share their guilt so they can both go on living.
