Assorted Adventurer Plates
I've been gradually working on creating portraits and adventurer plates for my characters as it occurs to me to do so.
It's really fun to figure out what to put in the background for the screenshots. I've been gradually refining my methods, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it, but a lot of times I end up missing one or more details, lol
Further musings and an update of what's up with me lately under the cut:
As you might be able to tell, some of these (Danyell, Zedyr) were created during the beta phase, so I should probably revisit them at some point (and I just realized that Maayan's has the wrong class/job listed, whoops!)
Unfortunately, Danyell, Firn, and Maparhi are not available right now because I am currently on the basic subscription, so I only have access to my Balmung alts (including Silver Sage, who is probably-temporarily over on Sagittarius on the Chaos EU DC) and Strammund on Mateus.
I've been playing FFXIV more actively in the past couple months, mainly sticking to (very) relaxed MSQ progression on my alts who were still in ARR, and now doing some crafting/gathering (procrastinating on MSQ, lol). However, I'm not sure if I'm "back" for real yet. I'm still in the same health situation that led me to take a two-year break from the game (god, I can't believe it was that long, what is time?), and so far I'm not feeling up to committing to RP storylines or anything where others would need to be able to count on me being present and focused. Maybe this will be another flash in the pan like when I created Firn last year and I'll have to stop playing again, or maybe I will be able to stick around in some capacity; as it stands now, I can't fully tell.

I was tagged by @mxkelsifer.
Here’s a little about me:
3 ships: Wolcred, Shenko, and F!Agent x Theron Shan
First ship: Man. That sailed a long time ago. Bad pun is bad, but I'd have to say my first non-Canon ship (IE, non-BioWare ship) would have to be my F! Nelf Hunter x Vol'jin. Hush. I really liked him.
Currently consuming: Diet Dr. Pepper and Sweettarts. Shh. It's moderately healthy. Diet! ;)
Currently watching: Nothing. >.> It takes a lot to get me to watch any movie/tv show/anime, and nothing has been able to drag me out of my office and onto the couch in a while.
Last movie: Spiderman: No Way Home
Last song: "In the Balance" - FFXIV Endwalker 6.1 Soundtrack (I listen to FFXIV music in my classroom)
Currently reading: Winnowing my way through the Five Hundred Kingdoms series by Mercedes Lackey yet again. I suppose I should go browsing for new books sometime.
Currently craving: [Redacted] (Come on, y'all all know what I thirst for most in this world.)
Tagging: @aeriefel, @eorzeashan, @thelealinhypehouse, @thefrostflower, @actualanxiousswampwitch, @briar-ffxiv, @violet-stormbringer, and anyone else who wants to join in!

⏳ historical figures
5 historical figures for the mun
Aisin-Gioro Puyi - Last Emperor of China. As a kid I was interested in him and frequently went back to throughout high school and adulthood. He was still a toddler when his uncle was poisoned and he was enthroned. He didn't even know about how empire ending until he was nearly 18 and kicked out of the palace. Though constantly pushed around for politics, he died of lung cancer in his 60s.
Suleiman the Magnificent - The sultan of the Ottoman Empire during their "Golden Age". I didn't become interested in him until I was an adult. His progress in many different cultural changes of Eastern Europe and the Middle East has fascinated me for some time. There are many laws and regulations put into place by him still enacted today, and he was also a patron of the arts thus enacting a great amount of invention and beautiful things. I still need to look into him more, but I like him.
(( I never finished this, but here are my thoughts for you all! <3 ))

(Her story before she came to Skyrim)
Milha-Ma was born and raised in Black Marsh, Archon, along with her father. She does not know much about her mother and her father goes quiet whenever she brings it up. One day she came home and saw her father sitting down with a letter. She was told to sit down so he can come clean about her mother.
She found out that her mother was a member of the Dark Brotherhood and wanted Milha-Ma to be a part, but her father refused. They kept fighting most nights because he had thought she had left that life behind, but she yearned to meet her other family. She was about to take Milha-Ma to Skyrim but decided against it and left without saying goodbye.
The letter that was in her father’s hand was from the leader of the Dark Brotherhood Astrid. Astrid revealed that her mother has passed away some time ago and thought that we should know about her passing and a sibling name Veezara. Milha-Ma was shocked and couldn’t help but feel betrayed by her mother. As for her brother she felt curiosity. Livid with the Dark Brotherhood for separating her family.
That night Milha-Ma had mixed feelings about what was revealed and needed time to process the information she was given.
The next day her father gave her his armour and sword. Told her she should go meet her brother and should go see the world along the way. She tried to argue but he stopped her before she spoke. He put a gold amethyst necklace with his initials on the back around her neck so she had him with her along the way. Deep down she knew she wouldn't win the conversation.
They hugged one last time before she left home. Only to feel more confused than ever.  Little did she know Skyrim would be a huge weight on her shoulders when she arrived.
But the real question is; is she going to join the same group her and her father despises just to meet her brother or will she push her curiosity aside and find a way to destroy the same group that broke her family up? Who can she trust? Who would be willing to trust her? Should she confess about her family or keep it as a secret?
Only time will tell...

🎼 What is one song that seems to perk you up whenever you hear it?
(( Alright so! I have a lot of these based on my genre at the moment, but there are a couple I go back to just for when I want to feel excited and happy. ))
"Tell Me What To Do" by SHINee
youtube
This one makes me smile and feel happy every time I hear it. I get that it's not a happy song lyrically, but the tones, the vocals, and the instrumentation fills me with this nostalgic happiness even though it's not an old song.

thinking about how the extra area added on to a pacifist run of undertale, the true lab, is about alphys's past mistakes. how it ends with the story reaffirming that, despite the pain she's caused, the thing that matters is that she has now made the choice to do the right thing. she's still worthy of her friends' love.
thinking about how undertale doesn't expect the player to get a pacifist ending for the first time. how it's more likely than not that the player will kill toriel the first time they battle her, how lots of players don't initially figure out how to end undyne's fight without killing her, etc. what it expects — not even expects, really, but hopes — is that the player, if they care enough, will use their canonically acknowledged power over time to make up for those mistakes.
no matter how many neutral runs a player has done before committing to the pacifist run, the thing that matters to the characters, to the story, is that you've chosen, now, to do the right thing.
compared to alphys, the player honestly gets off lightly, in that you're the only one (other than flowey) who really remembers any harm you might have caused. and any direct guilting the game could have done about it is long past at this point. instead, as undertale often does, it makes its point via parallels: alphys caused harm, and she knows it. she has committed to being better. in doing so, she has unlocked for herself a better ending to her story. and she deserves it. she's forgiven.
those structural narrative parallels are all over undertale, if you know where to look. and that's one of the things that makes it so fuckin' good.

leverage is so fucking funny. man manages to find the most mentally ill and neurodivergent group of thieves on the market + an even more mentally ill guy whose literal job description was trying to chase all of them, and forces them into a found family speed-run by trying to blow them all up. they lowkey stage a full fucking country wide coup and are like eh 🤷 just another wednesday. this might be a fun place to vacation tho i guess. sophie shows up to her own funeral twice. they're so good at convincing people of their shit that they make a guy's body start reacting to an illness he doesn't have because it isn't real. go completely out on a limb and basically hand this one guy a new password for his computer so they can get into it and he goes with it. parker and hardison have straight up just "fake it 'till you make it"d into the fbi without even attempting to cover their tracks beyond just These Two Guys. half their clients never asked to be their clients and don't know they're their clients, and the other half are random people who find them who fuckin knows how, meanwhile no government agency can track them down without selling their soul to sterling. they make a point to have a dramatic scene w a Big Bad Shadowy Government Guy who doesn't actually get caught or brought to justice or anything telling them he's going to hunt them all down, and in any other show this would probably earn at least a minor arc later on but he literally never shows up again. an entire season finale hinged on a cake and a bunch of clams. they accidentally made eliot a celebrity not once, not twice, but three times. parker blew up her foster parents' house when she was like. nine. and it's hardly a footnote. hardison is just casually an artistic prodigy but it's only ever brought up for the most background of background gags. eliot's biggest beef with parker and hardison for like two and a half seasons is that they won't stop making weird food with lasers and refuse to realize they can't make a decent beer to save their lives. sophie's immediate response to being shot is to call her shooter a wanker. there's a character who has literally killed a man with a mop and they had the audacity to only put her in one episode.

I know your writing mostly from FFXIV, but the thing that always makes me recognize something as a Ren joint is the way you work the pacing around dialogue. You can feel the exact pace of a conversation between characters as if you were reading it in real time, and the breaks in quoted dialogue to describe anything nonverbal feel like they take up as much time as an actual pause in the conversation would take. If that makes any sense?
Oh wow, what a cool thing to notice! I think I do this mostly subconsciously, but I do tend to be pretty aware of rhythm and, like... breath? So that definitely tracks. Varying the pacing of dialogue does so much to set the tone of a conversation, I feel.

Steve acts on instinct.
There’s this guy in all black walking in front of him, he’s too busy looking down at his phone to notice, but Steve doesn’t trust that lamppost. He’s been going for daily runs, he likes to keep it simple during the off-season, and that post has been getting more rickety every day. Now it’s swaying dangerously in the wind and he knows it’s about to tumble.
There’s no time to call out to the guy, so Steve just plows forward and tackles him out of the way.
They fall in a messy heap and Steve unfortunately lands heavily on top.
“Holy shit! What the— ugh!” The guy heaves in pain and Steve hurries to scramble off of him.
“Sorry, that post was about to fall on you, man. You alright?”
Pieces of grass stick to the guy’s long hair as he takes stock of Steve and what happened. With a labored breath, he surprisingly jokes, “Guess I’m lucky the best football tackler alive happened to be right behind me.”
It’s sarcastic as shit but Steve smiles with a tug of amusement as he offers his hand. “Baseball, actually.”
“You’re in the wrong league, man,” he lets Steve pull him to his feet and groans on the way up. “Well, nice to meet you, Baseball, you pack a hell of a first impression. I’m Eddie.”
Steve would appreciate his ability to joke so soon after taking a hit, but people are starting to gather around. There’s already phones pointed at them that probably caught the whole thing on camera. Steve’s used to public attention by now, knows the press is going to have a field day with this and he hates causing a scene, but he wants to make sure Eddie is okay.
“Just Steve is good. You wanna…? This way,” he gestures toward the sidewalk and thankfully, Eddie seems just as eager to get out of there too, shuffling next to Steve as they round the corner.
He’s wearing so much metal jewelry, it’s like a costume, the jingle jangle of his every step accentuating how shaken up he seems. They get far enough behind a building and Steve stops to have a real look at him and… well he’s interesting to look at.
It’s like he hopped off the album cover of an 80s rock band, or one of Steve’s Bon Jovi posters that he hid under his bed in high school. Way too much leather and way too much hair for the California sun, all disheveled with grass and dirt.
“You sure you’re okay? Here, you got a little…” Steve’s hand hovers until Eddie nods that it’s okay from him to pluck the grass from his hair and lightly brush the dust from his shoulders. Eddie watches him the whole time, his eyes big and dark, an intensity in them that Steve can’t quite read but he can feel. “Didn’t hit your head or anything, did you?”
Steve lowers his hands, stepping back a little when he realizes how close they are. Eddie’s eyes follow him, a slight quirk to his lips that makes Steve feel the heat of the sun a little warmer on his face.
“I’m touched by your concern, sweetheart, but my brain has been through worse damage than a little bump.”
Steve frowns at the ladder, but the first bit definitely makes him feel the heat. He’s admittedly a bit out of practice but he can still recognize a come on. One that he definitely invited with all the touching and indulgent looks.
Then Eddie starts profusely thanking him for the whole ordeal, asking to treat him somewhere nearby for lunch. It’s not that Steve doesn’t want to, he’s very interested actually, and thankful that out of all the jewelry Eddie’s sporting, there’s no wedding ring. That’s why he’s reluctant because he’s all sweaty at the moment. Not to mention, he didn’t finish his run yet.
“Surely saving my life was enough cardio,” Eddie jokes lightly and Steve snorts.
“I saved you from a minor concussion, maybe,” and okay he’s gotta accept now.
The place is small and unassuming, burgers and sodas type joint. Steve’s likely to be recognized there, which he doesn’t mind meeting fans in public just preferably not now, it might be jarring for Eddie.
He heads for the booth tucked in the back corner, the most private looking spot that Steve had his eyes on too. They get a round of sodas from the waitress and right away, Eddie starts thanking him again.
“I noticed that lamppost wobbling days ago,” Steve sparks a conversation instead of accepting any more thanks, “I was planning to let it fall on me so I could sue the shit out of the city.”
He’s pleasantly startled by the big cackle that gets out of Eddie, “Any chance to stick it to the man. I admire that.”
“‘Course I would’ve really stuck it to ‘em and donated it back to the community,” Steve adds.
“Giving the people’s money back to the people, imagine Big Brother’s horror. Noble guy.”
Eddie seems to bubble with contagious delight that doesn’t match his whole leather and chains thing at all, but it fits into the somewhat magic of him. It's a wonder to Steve.
“Do I know you from somewhere?” Eddie ventures, a glint of recognition in his eyes that Steve’s seen a thousand times. He doesn’t ping Eddie as much of a sports guy and he’s not vain enough to assume everyone knows who he is. Eddie’s probably seen him while flipping the channel past ESPN or something. Or maybe an ad for that Netflix thing he did documenting last year’s season.
“I think I’d definitely remember you.”
Steve didn’t mean it as a come-on, just that Eddie’s appearance really isn’t forgettable, but he can tell by the wicked little grin Eddie sports that it was taken as one. Steve likes that even better.
“Have you ever modeled, or anything? You’ve got the looks for it.”
Biting back a smile of his own, Steve shakes his head. “I bet you say that to everyone who saves your life.”
“None of them were half as good looking." That sounds concerning but Steve’s distracted by Eddie swirling his straw in his drink, regarding him with a long look. “Really though, I just feel like I’ve seen you before.”
Steve’s done a few covers of Sports Illustrated, but he doubts Eddie has ever picked up a copy of that, so he shrugs. “Must’ve been in your dreams.”
Eddie laughs softer this time. “You trying to sweep me off my feet or something?”
“Already did.” Steve leans back, enjoying the way Eddie’s eyes follow him.
Conversation sparks and it never really dies out. Eddie just grabs topics out of thin air, talking about the city and what they like to do and movies and his amazement that Steve knows all about D&D because he’s a nerd magnet. Eddie’s personality spills through everything he says like it can’t be contained. He’s talkative in a good way, not to a point where Steve can’t get a word in. He listens intently, has a way of putting all his attention onto Steve like he’s the most interesting person he’s ever spoken to.
It’s surprisingly easy to relax. Not because Eddie has a super calming presence or anything, his energy is just all-encompassing, it’s hard for Steve not to get sucked in and hang on to every word he says. It’s one of the rare times in public that he’s not hyper-aware of everyone around him and too paranoid of having a photo snapped and taken out of context to even enjoy himself.
That happens a lot, being one of the only professional athletes who’s open about his sexuality. The media is extremely invasive with his private life. If he’s seen with any guy friend, there’s a whole press storm about Steve Harrington’s “secret beau” within the hour. It’s ridiculous and he tries so hard to keep his lovelife under wraps that maybe he’s been neglecting it entirely, at least that’s what Robin says.
Of course, that’s when his phone lights up with a message from her. His heart sinks a little when he sees the title of the article she sent to him. He quickly shoots her a text and locks his phone without reading it.
“Everything alright?” Eddie notices the shift in Steve’s mood right away.
“Yeah just,” he sighs, bracing for the inevitable part when Eddie realizes Steve isn’t worth the hassle of all this, “Someone filmed us earlier and now it’s all over the press. I’m really sorry, I totally get it if—”
“Nah, don’t worry about it, it’s fine. I figured that would happen,” Eddie brushes it off, but Steve shakes his head.
“I don’t think you understand, it’s—”
“Wanna bet?” Eddie smirks for some reason, “I’m fine with it, I promise.”
He tosses a chip into his mouth and picks right back up with the story he was telling.
Steve is stunned for a moment, wary that maybe Eddie doesn’t fully grasp how deep this goes. But he stays there with Steve, seemingly thrilled to keep talking with him even when a family comes in and keeps staring their way, obviously building up the courage to come over and ask for a picture. Eddie’s acting like Steve’s the only person in the room and that’s enough to assure Steve that he’s really fine with it.
He’s so locked into Eddie, he barely registers when the older son from the family’s table finally wanders over and asks for a picture.
Steve is in the middle of wiping his face with a napkin, about to greet him when suddenly, Eddie pops up and asks Steve to excuse him for a minute.
“C’mon little man, let’s do it,” he says and much to Steve’s confusion, the teen excitedly goes with Eddie to his family’s table.
Steve watches, utterly baffled, as they start snapping photos and expressing what big fans they are and Eddie takes it with such bravado, laughing and chatting like he’s with a group of friends.
What the— Steve grabs his phone, opening the article Robin sent him at lightning speed.
At first, he wonders how the press was able to find out Eddie’s full name so quickly, then he sees the words "troubled rockstar" and "recovering star" so many times, it becomes abundantly clear.
Oh.
He’s not so worried about the troubled part, everyone has their shit and he doesn’t read into any of it. Those are Eddie’s stories to tell Steve if he chooses, not some tabloid. But the rockstar part connects a lot of dots that have come up in the last couple of hours since meeting Eddie and—
Yeah, just. Oh.

listen I expected literally Nothing from the D&D movie okay, like I can't make it clear enough that I expected the most soulless money grab with a good cgi budget imaginable, I went in having already gone through every stage of grief and landed on acceptance and LISTEN
I fucking CRIED during this dumb RPG movie. it wasn't just "not terrible" it was objectively good with a clever plot and compelling characters and sincere emotional beats. this movie loves D&D so fucking much and it NAILS the "a bunch of goobers try to be cool and accidentally discover The Power Of Friendship And Also Great Violence" classic D&D party vibe. their barbarian's last name is fucking Kilgore and my entire family cried in the theater.
I hope they make twelve of these motherfuckers.
