me, researching the most extremely specific thing: wow, why is there absolutely zero research on this very tiny detail of this extremely specific thing, crazy

apologies if this is a dumb question and i won't be offended at all if you dont answer/dont know but since you've worked in libraries before i was curious if you knew how to let your library know you're interested in an audiobook they haven't purchased ? i know i used to be able to make requests on overdrive but since the switch to libby i haven't been able to figure it out. i hope youre having a lovely day whether you can help or not and appreciate you taking the time to read all this 💛
sorry for the late reply, i haven't been online much and just saw this! most public libraries will have a form on their website called something like "purchase request" or "suggest a title" that you can use to request things! people often think this is only for books, but most places will let you request audiobooks, DVDs, etc. librarians won't always add the things you request to the collection, and they often can't explain every decision in detail due to volume, so results may vary.
the one thing to be mindful of is that audiobook/ebook licensing can be really weird, and sometimes publishers do make it really difficult or impossible for libraries to license certain items! so if your library doesn't get something you ask for, that sucks and is disappointing, but please don't hesitate to keep sending in requests as you have them! that info is always super helpful for collections folks looking to add things to the library that they think you'll want and use!

Buddy. You had to send this question from the page that contains the search bar for the library catalog.
Message to library sent from ask-a-question form: My assignment is to read "This is an Article Title" by Name McNamerson. Please advise how to find that.
Reply: Hello Masters Student, I searched McNamerson AND this is an article title in the library catalog, which brings up three top results all with that title and author but different years. If you're unsure which of these is what your assignment needs, please check with your professor.

today in surreal moments: apologized to two of the librarians because I once again requested so many books that I found a glitch in their system and they yelled, "NO, DON'T APOLOGIZE, YOU'RE OUR BEST USER," at me, in unison

I know this is coming from me, a morbid bitch, and I know we are talking about a world in which resurrection is possible and communication past death is as well. But that's still not an option for the vast majority of people in that world; even in Exandria most people die and they don't come back in any capacity. Indeed, one might say that a theme of this campaign is a people who either have been brought back - not always willingly - or people who lived past the point where they wanted to or expected to die. (this is also a theme of the Mighty Nein, but in a very different way.) Anyway, this is going to sound immensely cheesy but I do hope that a number of Bells Hells go check out Evontra'vir and spend some time hanging out in there, but also perhaps the fandom should, metaphorically, do so as well, because I think a lot of disagreement or weird takes could be improved by accepting that there will be death in these stories.

sometimes at work i get emails about changes in our department that i feel are 100% because of me. and maybe that's just me being anxious and paranoid but actually it certainly isn't.

if you do not mind me asking/pulling back the curtain - how did you become such an esteemed hughesologist? i assume this has been a several-years journey, how did it start? have you been collecting photos/links the whole time, or are you now going searching for things? i am very impressed. the library should be jealous
LMAO thank you it means a lot to be acknowledged for my craft. the answer is i have always been an obsessive information/content hoarder especially in terms of fandom (i recently found my journal from my childhood which had pages upon pages of handwritten miscellaneous tswift fun facts, and being Like This about harry potter was what got me diagnosed with autism at 13). after lurking and being very low stakes invested for a while i started getting fr obsessed with hockey in 2020 and then early 2021 i went full tunnel vision on jack. you will understand if youve seen the pics of him kneeling in front of ty and damon at training camp. i basically save everything relevant that gets posted, especially bc the devils in particular are so evil and constantly nuke their old social media posts, but i have also done a lot of searching for old stuff. my onedrive folder where i store stuff (excluding full games) is 116 GB and i have stuff in gdrive/external storage too im like fr unhinged. i'm still constantly searching for things and i still do find new to me stuff even tho ive been to the end of many ppls instagram tagged photos and twt mentions and google search results etc, but i would say i have probably seen the majority of what is out there. at this point when i find new to me things it's stuff that nobody is directly mentioned by name or tagged in. i have a Hughes Lore google doc thats like 50 pages, a timeline doc, and more. it feels kind of embarrassing to say write it all out like this bc i am fully aware that this is like, kind of creepy, but im physically incapable of being normal about my interests. mostly i was just keeping it all this accumulated information in my brain and cloud storage and priv twt for years but then i was like i suppose some other people would appreciate this stuff. and now here we are. genuinely if ppl ever have a question or are looking for something it is highly likely i can provide it and i want to be helpful :) so anyone can always just ask
also: ive thought about making a post detailing some of the little tricks i have up my sleeve for these purposes if thats something ppl would be interested in.

Man I do not understand why students decide the library is the best place to ask questions that have literally no relation to the library
There’ve been some phishing attempts and a student emailed the library saying “I got an email saying IT was disabling my university account” like okay?? ask IT about it? The entire department publicly tasked with handling computer- and account-related issues????

at this point a combo of working (and enjoying) a very public-facing job, and being a child of the internet, has made me numb to some fuckin Wild patrons.
like i answered the phone today with a "hello this is sam how may i help you?" and get the cold open of this patron telling me "you dont sound like a sam."
like idk what to tell you sir theres samuels, theres samanthas, and then theres fools who dont hang up on your sorry ass immediately named sam.
later in the conversation when i told him we couldnt drive over to his House (his personal living quarters!) to pick up the sewing machine hed like to donate (with our own city vehicles!). because. like. this is a Library. he asked me, in response,
"do any men work at the library?"
and when i didnt respond fast enough because what, he REPEATED
"do any men work at the library?"
bro. the sewing machine being heavy is not the problem here
anyway i dont need to watch dramas i just clock in and become a side character in a sitcom written by a monkey w/ a typewriter.
