literally just looking at various potential research labs for grad school and my brain has the audacity to give me the “fucking up the protein purification in front of everyone so badly they all think I’m an idiot” nightmare again

#haven’t had that bad boy since I left my research tech job #to be fair I’m p sure I’m the only person in the labs I’m looking at that has ever even purified a protein #like. of the labs I’m looking at the only wet labs are somewhere that doesn’t have the equipment on site #the others aren’t wet labs at all #but it is funny bc I was talking to a potential PI and she mentioned a problem that I could consider working on and my brain was like. well #this is prob best approached by enzyme activity assays #and I’m p sure this guy can’t be assayed in vivo #so. protein purification for in vitro testing?#but I HATE PURIFICATION.#and also literally if I wanted to do it I’d have to go to the other campus that has the centrifuges and liquid nitrogen!!!!!#which is fucking bizarre to me bc I worked somewhere where those things were standard #the university doesn’t even have an fplc……….#they simply don’t do that shit. which is kinda the point bc I don’t like that shit #and YET #somehow this specific problem offered to me as a potential thesis activates my sleeper agent purification brain #maybe if I were purifying my Own proteins for my Own assay to answer my Own questions……….#like. Thing about small italian villages is that the didnt really have roads up until the 70's which of course leads to a massive amount of cousin marriage and inbreeding and while yes my particular own has its issues regarding that (3 major families (one of whom i am part of!!! Yay!!!) that all of the other families are related to, everyone there has bone/joint problems or some sort of schizofrenia) the neighboring one is worse as in they have one major family and the rest of the inhabitants are ppl who immigrated to have a quiet life in the mountain slopes and that by itself could be an extremely interesting study bcs everyone there kinda looks the same-ish and has a frankly insane amount of people with developmental disabilities for a population this small

#ok now that i have typed it out i realized it sounds mean and i want to earnestly say that i am not mocking them i just suck at tone #i do not think its something to be laughed at i just think the whole thing is uh. i wouldnt say tragic but really no one's fault #bcs again. if you live in the mountains where the main city is hard to reach bcs of poor road conditions #which leads to isolation and also extreme stigma against the village folk *of course* the village #will become more secluded and incestuous marriages will happen (aside from the obv economical factor #that a pre industrial reality would entrail)#its just. fascinating on a sociological and genetical level. esp since by when the roads were functional #and the village folk stigma had already gone away the whole 'we stay here we stay together we are better than anyone bcs they are envious #of us and we will continue inbreeding and any kids with severe disabilities born from it are actually Blessed because they are born from us #has already taken so much root it is now unlikely to be eradicated . the nature of italian villages is that every once in a while #someone reinvents blood purity and eugenetics lmao #anyways this whole incest thing is also the reason why i get frustrated about those books that have #the main characters go into small bigoted villages and either finding peace there or be horrified by its conservatives ideas #while never digging on the *why*. like yeah all this 'what happens in the village stays in the village and everyone else is an enemy'#but they never dig into why that mentality was born to begin with and how incest there #actively helps this mentality to continue on like you legit still have grandmas telling you to marry ur cousin #anw. i dont know what i was going for w this rant. it originated from knowing that my aunt turned local saint #was actually schizophrenic and was prone to paranoid attacks and mental breakdowns similar to mine #fun stuff!

Ahh, tv shows where I can't tell apart the male leads, my beloathed.

Seriously either we need to go back to lighting our sets more, or long hair on men needs to come back into vogue, because I can't keep living like this.

I can't keep taking two seconds to try to determine who is who every shot because I miss what's going on in the scene!

Controversial opinion, but you need to follow the silhouette rule in live-action projects too, at least in regard to characters in the same show or movie! If you absolutely *can't* hire actors with different heights, hair, or builds, you need to work something out with the costuming department to get a distinct shape!

#yet again i fail to convince my counselor i have executive function problems. mostly its bc i dont think well in the moment but also i just #feel kinda weird rn so i was having trouble making my thoughts connect. but i swear to christ i do have problems making my executives #function. i think the issue is im a grad student so i do well in school. not that it matters bc i kno loads of grad students with pretty #god awful adhd. one of my former lab mates was like. Adderall barely made her normal. and yet she was still a phd student #so like. its possible to have executive function issues as a grad student. the problem with me is the obsessive thoughts and self #destructive behavior so to her it sounds like im telling myself that i cant get my brain to work unless i put myself under extreme pressure #rather than i cant get my brain to work so to cope im putting myself under extreme pressure bc if i dont nothing gets done #but like fucking if i try to relax i dont do things. i cant clean my kitchen or my room or take out the trash or do my laundry #and im not like not doing it bc i dont wanna. these things r causing me active distress but i cant flip the switch that makes them happen #ive gotta write a grant proposal. read a paper. and find a paper to discuss by tomorrow morning. i had time to do all of this before but i #didnt do it. y didnt i do it? fucking i dont kno. ugh. whatever. i got refered to a psychiatrist so well see what happens there #i did accidentally set the meeting to when i meet with my advisor tho. oops. also my counselor said it sounds like im a rat running on a #wheel. which is accurate but also a really fucking funny thing to have said abt u. ur r a scrawny neglected lil rat. boohoo.#idk what type of medication she thinks i should b on. like what symptom r we trying to exhaust? the 0cd or the mood issues?#i dont even kno what the issue is. not that i guess it matters. idk. i need to read and write. fucking hell #unrelated

One thing I really wonder about with the Elden Ring dlc coming is the way the demigods all seem like they might still be alive. All of them continue talking after they've perished, their words echoing in the air; this may be a "death is obviously weird in Elden Ring" thing more than that they're "alive" per se, but the way the scarlet aeonia spell says Malenia "will" become a true goddess and the devourer's scepter says it "will one day become the very symbol of the Lord of Blasphemy" combined with Rykard at least definitely kind of still being there and his comment about how he won't be held captive. Well all together it makes for a "what's up with this" vibe.

EDIT: Oh and of course the mausoleums and everything there. Housing soulless demigods that aren't technically dead? The concept that an eclipse can bring their souls back? I know there's a dark souls reference with the eclipse and the sunlight shields, but I still feel like that'll be dlc relevant.

#like the tarnished is functionally immortal thanks to grace #me vs elden ring #possibly more powerfully than normal given that we may be the only ones with it?#I try not to overthink 'why are we immortal and no one else is' because game mechanic #demon's souls and bloodborne have good answers to this question; dark souls is a bit more vague #elden ring though. You're the only tarnished that still sees the guidance of grace; implying you're extra actively blessed #like in dark souls 1 and 2 you're the determined bastard who finally makes it without losing their minds #and I guess that's somewhat the same for 3.#but. Actually I'm not sure about Elden Ring's functional immortality at all #especially as far as the demigods go. Marika *should* have lived forever. Killing her (+Radagon) requires a lot #the rune of death must be unbound #but before that happens do the demigods really die?#and then there's a 'spirit world' possibly. All fhe different types of death/afterlife systems. Living in death. Etc.

Amphoreus - Cipher Analytics

I haven’t played through the entirety of the most recent quest yet, but I’d accidentally spoiled myself on Cipher’s death when I was researching additional information needed for rp materials (I also did this to myself when looking for Jiraiya from Naruto). Anyhow, I decided to do some dissecting/theorising into her death. I’m bored, it’s a Wednesday, and my oreo ice cream is in the freezer, ready for me to eat when I decide to kill some freaking ugly beasts.

From what I played through so far, it has revealed quite a bit about Cipher’s mentality. It is clear that, even from young, she held onto this belief that she wasn’t good enough for anything of value. It is as if she isn’t worthy of anything nice. Vulnerability is not something that exists within the depths of her heart (although, I get the sense that this is due to a need to remain solely independent. When you begin to open up to someone, you open yourself up to a world of potential pain and dependency, which is something someone like Cipher would want to avoid to the utmost). I believe that, deep down, she wishes to prove she is worthy of being seen as someone valuable, someone who is strong and capable, just like the other.

If I’m honest, I think her death (although UNNECESSARY. FRICK YOU HOYOVERSE!!! I HOPE YOU SUFFER!!!) solidifies the heart of gold she had been carrying since birth. I mean, with her capabilities, who wouldn’t just escape responsibility before death could catch up? It could be that Aglaea’s death (FRICK YOU HOYOVERSE. KILLING OFF MY MUSES LIKE THIS IS SOME GODDAMN FREAKIN HUNGER GAMES ACTIVITY.) inspired her to be selfless. I kinda see their relationship as one that is mother-daughter? I mean, again, I’m behind, so it’s a bit too soon to say anything.

Cipher is easily becoming my most favourite muse by far. She’s my sweet little angel kitty cat. I am going to give more insight once I’ve played through the game.

Wish my job would stop shooting me in the back of the head to prevent me from enjoying life (worked a few long shifts and haven't had the energy to consume mcd at a ravenous pace)

#jeremiahs mcd notes #like i am enjoying the note taking process but it does mean watching is a more tiring process #requires a lot more mental energy #which i dont tend to have after these big long 8 hour shifts #right at the start of the month bc everybkdy's gvt benefits for groceries came in #on the first #and now everybody is shopping bc its the first weekend after their benefits dropped #hate it here #like heres thething they should absolutely be shopping and they deaerve to shop #and mostly they are all very polite and many of them are actively kind #its just that theres so very many and in order to keep the store functional the crew has to work so hard #imagine scanning groceries #one afterthe other after the other #fed by a conveyor belt that does not run out of groceries #for 4 continuous hours #with your only 'breaks' being to give somebody change #which is. adifferent type of effort #most days i help a customer and then its quiet for a bit and then i help a customer and its quiet #and ill go sweep the floor and come back and go bag groceries and whatever #but on these shifts it is #register purgatory #all the way up until the state of vermont demands i have a paid 15 minute break

This is one of my favorite examples of Ryoko Kui understanding different body type needs and functions on a completely higher level than anyone else in the field right now.

When you have more fat distribution around your center and stomach, the way your body folds on itself makes it incredibly difficult to sit against a wall with your head resting on your knees like that! In fact, for someone like me, it takes active effort and strength to hold that pose. My body can not rest in a pose like that because it is uncomfortable to my body type!

On the other hand, one of the first things I notice when i lose a lot of weight is that I can sit with my knees pulled way closer than usual to my chest without strain or pain. It's a pretty noticeable difference!

It's such a small detail, but so specific that I immediately had to get up and see for myself how I felt sitting in that position. I can do it and it's for sure possible, but it's mostly uncomfortable and has never been my go to pose after collapsing from running.

It's only one line, but it would go right over the heads of people who have only ever been thin or straight sized their whole life. Ryoko Kui nobody else is on your level doing it like you, and us plus size and fat fans see every single step you've taken to properly and respectfully represent our bodies!! Thank you!!
