Pretty good show honestly. I think it may perhaps come off a little underwhelming compared to last time because they released the full trailers early, so it was chiefly just talking, but I was still pleased.

The only thing I really wanted out of it was one (1) of my predictions coming true and one (1) surprise, and well, between the Watase Family and Nishitani...... THREE!!!!!, that's exactly what I got. Kiryu looking up at the sky like he's struggling to remember who he (allegedly) proposed to is hilarious though same energy as Jo not remembering Ikumi's name ghdshgkdhf the exchange kind of reminded me of Ichi talking to Arakawa as well... the "don't say it in the past tense" one you know the one...

Also next summit in September so that'll be a lovely birthday present :) For Me :)

I love your art sososo much, and I would see it on my dash on occasion (it brought me happiness, but I never really kept up with the account, and I honestly high-key regret it), so when I saw your alt cast art, I remembered rbing the Kyōkenji x Inokana sketch you drew a while back, but I had no idea it was associated with an entire au!! I was estatic since I love the au concept, and I love both ships so much!!

Then, trust me, I was innocently scrolling through the tag when I came across rengokunikida... This man has no right being so jdbdjdbd

Bit of a tale here.

I was thinking about Okuu, and realized I wasn't sure if hell ravens were youkai as a whole, or if was just her. I decided to do some digging. (bit long and I'm going to rbing this a reasonable bit)

Well, not only do most (touhou) sources not specify if hell ravens are youkai or just animals, most don't even directly refer to Okuu as a youkai. Usually she's just referred to as a bird, crow, or hell raven. Contrast this with Orin, who is quite often called a youkai cat.

The more I looked, the more puzzled I got. Sure, she seemed to be considered a youkai by implication, but nobody seemed to actually call her one. She is a youkai, right? Not just a bird with a god inside?

Finally, after far more searching than I expected, I have confirmation that Okuu is, in fact, a youkai. Both her Who's Who article and ZUN's comments on her theme refer to her as a youkai directly. Case closed.

But wait, that wasn't even my initial question! I wanted to know if hell ravens are youkai. Damn.

According to who's who, they are, but in his comments on her theme, ZUN claims Okuu was just a bird before getting powerful. Satori also says that she isn't sure what kind of youkai okuu has grown up to be. In SoPM, Okuu's entry is... odd. It says that hell raven's are born of the darkness of hell, but don't have a yokai's characteristics. Thanks Akyuu...

So I guess in conclusion, Okuu is a youkai and so are hell ravens as a whole.

...That still feels odd to me; hell ravens are described much more like ordinary animals, plus it goes against the idea of her being "just a bird", and makes Satori's comment kinda nonsensical.

Oh well I guess.

We were probably 14~ish and I was saying I didn't really have any ideas for a name for my art account I was going to make, and he suggested adellama as a pun on my name and cause I like llamas. [he does a feat unmatched by any of the biological life forms around him] which... isnt exactly useful as principled, ideological and philosophic statement, about who gains the right of person-hood. AND. its not just mistreatment he gets (RIGHTFULLY!) angry about. Its that (as joelle correctly pointed out, ofc) when confused, or when things are wrong, when he has no control, he default right to agression! He is not a sad kicked puppy that goes 'oh' and 'i do not understand the meaning of ur behaviour' like data does. (again that sounds like data slander its NOT! i love data and wish ppl would stop laughing at him for having questions)

Whereas the biggest actual impediment of data's full recognition of personhood is his feelings, and suppose lack there of. He doesn't react to social stimulus the way people expect him too. If you try to goad him into a response he might say he 'is not capable of experiencing emotions such as you do' cause hes lacking the magic part in his brain that will do that. (to which... every neurodivergent person ever said: data, bestie, baby girl, they say that about a lot of people. you have clearly expressed internal experiences that are just... you baselines for emotion)

But to compare. When people say the doc isnt acting socially normal, which is an assholish thing to do, btw. HES READY TO BE AN ASSHOLE RIGHT BACK. His is INFACT, gnashing those holographic teeth! I don't think anyone has ever accused the doc of a LACK OF FEELING. Like, he has horrible beside manner, he "isn't programed for small talk"... but thats cause he's RUDE! He's too obviously prideful, snide, needling and just general, self involved for it to not seem like a DELIBERATE CHOICE that he is making.

And even when these traits are regarded to simple programing (which makes them... less real? 🤨) Examine the moments that are definitively about him claiming autonomy, engaging in recreation and becoming more self actualized. And find that a lot of them are angled to make him LESS likable. His hobbies, which he WILL speak about, AT LENGTH, include being a tropy writer, a photographer who makes hour long presentations, and a uncompromising operatic tenor diva.

(love when opera singer is used as insult, media wise, oh noooo ur TOO good at singing. your voice is TOO powerful, ur vocal control and ability to perform complex pieces in multiple languages is TOO impressive. lol. mr picardo ur so cool and u looked good doing it. frankly)

In the moments that serve to mark specific advancement in control he gains over himself, he gets to make himself MORE OBNOXIOUS! You do not, infact, get to recognize a someones full personhood without running the risk that you, specifically, might not like them! As a person!

And in dramtic turns. His true psyche breaking, foundation shaking experiences are acted to hell! It's uncomfortable to behold someone so emotional. Confusion and denial not expressed quietly, but belligerently. Meeting of sadness fear that can only be expressed as anger. Unlike the picturesq Adam and Eve figures from the end of R.U.R. (spoilers? i suppose). His awareness of the true personal impact and price of mortality is not signaled by a noble self-sacrifice, gentle weeping and pleading to not have someone taken away. It's a choice he made to save a close friend, instead of a distant coworker, when forced to choose between the two.

And then, his complete and total inability to comprehend, internalized and accept that fact. A person would be dead, truly and utterly gone from this world. Cause he wanted to save his friend instead. And the only way to ingrate this horrible fact of reality, the capital A, Absurd, was to do it as any human might.

Have a very public and loud mental breakdown, spend prolonged period of in which you cannot be left alone because your darkest thoughts will loop forever into themselves as you become more and more upset, and yet, neither can you simply avoid thinking about it, has the only way to come to terms with it is though a mire subjects that cause revulsion. The desert of thought the mind shrink from, and the truth that lies in it. Which. Is very inconvenient for all your friends who would really just rather be having a normal one.

In conclusion? The doc shows autonomy and sentience by being loud, opinionated and embarrassing. Rude, precocious, and easily offended. Self obsessed, high-mined, and anguished. Dependent, vulnerable and inconvenient. Which is to say he possible the most real anyone could ever be. That he has a much of a soul as any of us. That he is a bitch and i love him SO MUCH.

the longfic!! yes!! i deleted it and a bunch of others in my bout of fury and annoyance at my writing (more like lack of ability to write actual plot lmao) before i went on that two month writing hiatus so it's gone rip 🤭🤭 but it was something i'd been toying with for so so long like you know that one scene in fever of hee just tired and in bed?? it was inspired by that but instead of horny it was just sadness and sorrow lmao it's actually hilarious how that came to be the more i think about it

it was originally going to start off with that snippet i posted, which was the prologue and it would then spiral into these glimpses at his inability to wake up from this quiet and empty world he'd built for himself in your wake. lots of moments where i was showing him doing and feeling absolutely nothing for weeks on end and just the menial things yada yada and one day the 02z would try to unsuccessfully break his door down so they send a wellness check and whatnot and that's where his healing process began i guess.

it would be rocky and he'd constantly succumb back into his grief bc just like in "second death" he'd become so attached to reader that without them he just wasn't whole enough to function. it'd then go into flashbacks where i was showing everyone how up until then, he had only been living for you and only you. but the boys would take turns crashing at his place and taking him out to places and doing things that would slowly make him return to himself. god there was this one instance where they'd catch him dancing by himself in the candlelight and he was so out of himself that it honestly broke even my heart. they would realize that he kept seeing reader as if they were physically there as a means to cope and it was so heartbreaking i can't begin explaining it to you ugh

eventually the more he started to feel better and the less he started relying on drinking, the more sinister your ghost would become and there would be times where he'd wake up from a dream he had of something nice (other than you at long last) to your ghost just smiling eerily at him from beside his bed, telling him that he was starting to forget about you and how cruel that was of him and that was the first time the boys would ever hear him cry after your departure. the guilt would eat him up alive. logically he knows that you'd want him to be happy and move on but the part in his brain that's so self loathing just makes him see you everywhere so that he never ever forgets about you.

anyhow that's all i had written i think and revisiting it makes me SO want someone to write this out for me 😞😞

ok ok right so. it's basically set in this post apocalyptic Japan where these things commonly called gods have taken over certain regions. they're also called IPOs (idolatry prohibited organisms) n basically they're superpowered like if u make eye contact with one, you die. they breathe on you, you die etc etc. but there's people doing science to try and combat them n there's people that go to see them to die n shit bc every survivor who has seen a god irl gets mentally influenced and says they're the most beautiful thing they ever saw. which is why they're still called gods even tho other religions have given it massive backlash

and then the actual story. it starts off with a few too many repetitive twists in the first few chapters but it gets so much better after that. there's a vet guy (tokinaga) and yon (she's cool n evil ish n stuff) n then waka our mc who is a girlboss trying to avenge her friend who died willingly via god. n it brings in a lot more detail about the gods and there's some proper almost existentialist stuff with like. how far can you say a person is still the same person etc etc.

it's just so good and heart wrenching and painful. it does have a lot of graphic ish stuff. like most of the body horror is really pretty artsy shit but it is still very body horror.

for tws. suicide, non-con abortion, eye gore, general body horror, gore, swearing. there's probably more I can't think of but those are the main ones

I agree with what you said about it being for the best!! Joel has his own life with Sarah and the construction company in Austin and reader has her own family and career somewhere else. Even if they had slept together or tried to get back together, there are a million things that would get in the way such as custody battles, selling/buying homes, public discourse, and more. And she’s not unhappy with her husband and daughter! She has a beautiful life and is deserving of her dreams. Just because Joel couldn’t be a part of it doesn’t mean it’s not worthy.

I think when we look back at our pasts, we totally have the nostalgia goggles on and we think “well that wasn’t that bad. I could do that again.” But the truth is, no matter what, you can never go back to the exact person you were in that moment. What a beautiful, terrifying, bittersweet thing it is to grow older and become a new person.

yes exactly!! obv the fic follows the readers perspective so we see what’s holding her back but also like… joel has his own stuff too. ESPECIALLY with him being divorced from sarah’s mom in this story and them sharing custody of her. even if they did love each other despite alllll of the odds (and there are many odds) i just don’t think it would be worth it.

the other thing i’m so glad you brought up is the public reaction!! for a second i actually considered ending the fic with a tabloid about her being spotted getting cozy with ‘some regular guy’ but i think there was already enough mess in this fic. but omg can you imagine if she actually left frankie for joel? i mean sarah’s mom would be interviewed left and right about how joel has always been a bit of a cheater so she’s not surprised he’s a homewrecker, frankie and her daughter would literally never hear the end of it, and i think the public really wouldn’t support the relationship. like at all. and like if they’re happy that’s what matters but still. just an absolute PR disaster! it would probably actually take a toll on her career as well.

oh my god the last thing you said. you always blow me away because i feel like you always know the right thing to say at the right time! i’m still thinking about that bluey quote you put in my dms. i think revisiting our past can be so interesting because no matter how hard it is to replicate it, it’s never exactly the same as it was before, and realizing that can be really disappointing at times.

mentioned in tags of a previous post but (partially because of the intermittently mentioned person who got me into dragon age and enforced their opinions on my experience) i did not really give a shit about solas in the least until like. last month. after getting into DA over a year ago. recognized sure he's probably an objectively well done character bc I trust Weekes and I've heard people say so but whatever, I'm just gonna dunk on the eggman and pay attention to nothing about him (I'm still gonna dunk on the eggman until I die. no one is undunkable.) to the point where after trespasser i remembered little enough of it to be able to come away with "he could have been lying and just set everything up for it"

for some reason when I (f i n a l l y) finished reading TME last month I came away from it being interested in Solas. he's referenced through fables about fen'harel several times and implicitly appears in the epilogue and ends felassan's career, but that's it. that's his only presence in the book. my best guess is that I needed to redirect my love for felassan and for Weekes' writing and Solas is certainly one way to go about that (throughout the book I thought "this dude would be so perfect for a da4 feature. why is no one talking about that. something happens, doesn't it" and then something did happen) (this directly relating to the theory i was rbing giving me Life)

i played trespasser for my second ever time shortly after finishing TME and actually paid attention with all of that in mind. it helped that i'd played the other games and retained a lot more of the lore, too. on the one hand, I have fully lost my capacity for being an evanuris denier and just going "fen'harel made this up he's literally the god of deceit," which leaves me more concretely mad at bw in general for more "the oppressed are only oppressed because of themselves, actually" bs, processing that there's no wiggle room on it and it's not just questionable presentation and interpretation of events.

on the other hand. I'm now more invested and solas has joined my list of controversial characters I care about and he actually won that inquisitor over to his side inasmuch as is possible, even when they'd never gotten along until that point because I only play elfy elves and solas is a DICK about the dalish.

my dunking can now be complete and multifaceted. man caused pretty much every problem, but damned if he isn't well written, and apparently i am invested in him now. would also like to give credit to the 2 folks i follow who make m!solavellan content who definitely played a part in that

big part of why he escaped my notice was also because soooo much of the content surrounding him is (f!)solavellan which is pretty consistently waifish young blonde or white haired blue-eyed elf who's malleable and tragic with a power imbalance. it's honestly the single dragon age ship with the most content, and one of the single dragon age things generally with the most content in the whole fandom. and for obvious reasons those iterations of it are really not something I'm here for.
