The Apple Doesn't Fall Far
Contains color-coded subtitles. Made in 2021.
cw spoilers, death
It's about the very strained paternal relationship between Jason and Batman and (probably) mental illness.
Also on ao3.
Video + Audio: Batman: Assault on Arkham, Bad Blood, Death in the Family (interactive), Hush, The Killing Joke, Under the Red Hood, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Batman vs Robin, Young Justice Audio only: Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4), Supernatural (TV) Music: Balmorhea – Remembrance Work time: ~27 hours Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
I used https://audiostrip.co.uk/ to help isolate the vocals for the spoken parts.
I was watching a ton of Jason Todd AMVs and one of the things I disliked was the inconsistency between the voices used. So for this video, I decided to use only Jensen Ackles’ voice, who voiced Jason in the original Red Hood movie as well as played Dean Winchester in the “Supernatural” show.

Best software for video editing
The best video creating and editing software can vary depending on your specific needs and expertise. Some popular options as of my last knowledge update in September 2021 include:
Adobe Premiere Pro: A professional-grade video editing software with a wide range of features.
Final Cut Pro X: A Mac-exclusive option known for its powerful editing capabilities.
DaVinci Resolve: Offers both video editing and color correction tools and has a free version.
iMovie: A user-friendly option for Mac users, great for beginners.
HitFilm Express: A free video editing and visual effects software.
Filmora: A user-friendly, budget-friendly option for beginners.
The best choice depends on your budget, skill level, and the complexity of your video editing needs.

1st Year Anniversary
Although the channel was created in November 2021, my first video, a quaint Animal Crossing cover, was released on August 13th, 2022. As such, I think it is appropriate to treat that day as the true start of the "chrysaora" channel. Though I'm a little late in acknowledging this occasion due to offline commitments, I thought it would be appropriate to reminisce over my favorite works from the previous year as well as discuss musings for the future.
【 MV #01 】 6:00AM from Animal Crossing: New Horizons

This project originally began in 2020, with an overambitious plan to create a medley of all 24 hourly themes. However, due to the pandemic and various circumstances that affected my mental health, this idea never came to pass and as such, the decision was made to break down this idea into smaller parts. While it’s good to have ambitions, it’s best for an inexperienced, independent creator like myself to realize his limits and find ways to go through the entire creative process from start to finish more frequently in order to gain more experience with completing projects.
Despite the final video's amateurish quality, I'm rather proud of this video. There were many "firsts" while working on this project, including...
Learning to use the BMPCC4K
Permanently switching from Adobe Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve
Learning to color correct BRAW
Learning acoustic guitar to accompany the violin parts
Screen tracking/replacement effect to place recorded gameplay footage onto live action scenes
Conceiving appropriate visuals to elevate the musical performance
While I still have room to grow, I'm quite happy with this video. My personal policy is to make videos that I can still be proud of in a year's time and this video certainly fits that criteria!
【 COMBO MAD 】 ASTRAL CHAIN - Uncontrollable
Since its release in 2019, I've accumulated over 750 hours in Astral Chain, with about half of this playtime dedicated to creating the combo video. Yes... that's right, 300+ hours of playtime was spent just for a little three minute video.
This was my first combo video so I wasn't quite sure how to approach it other than "kill enemies in cool ways". After many hours of experimentation, these are the guidelines that I created for myself to follow...
Create combos that are only possible with this combat system
Find a balance between technical skill and presentation
Music should synchronize with the visuals in order to elevate the combo's presentation
For point #2, this is a mindset that I developed while researching combo videos from other games. You can have an extremely technical combo that requires complex inputs but if its presentation is lacking, what were you trying to achieve outside of "I can press buttons fast"? Conversely, if a combo appears flashy but is incredibly basic, the combo becomes less impressive in my eyes. This balance is difficult to achieve and I'm aware that I didn't successfully fulfill this self-imposed criteria. However, it did serve as an important learning experience for my next combo video...
【 COMBO MAD 】 Bayonetta 3 - à la mode

Bayonetta 3 has had a tumultuous release. At the time, I thought it would be best to keep my head down and experiment with the combat system with the goal of presenting it in its best light.
While I have privately joked with like-minded peers that Bayonetta 3 is "Astral Chain 2", it quickly became clear that the dynamic between summoner and summon was extremely different. In the stylish combo department, it became clear that both Bayonetta and her summons had fully fleshed out movesets, allowing both characters to work independently compared to the more dependent relationship between summoner and summon featured in Astral Chain. With this in mind, I decided to feature combos that revolved around the idea of "catching", where one character could pass an enemy to the other character and vice versa. You'll notice that many combos feature in the video end with some sort of "catch".
Once again, I adhered to the guidelines I had established in the previous combo video, especially for music synchronicity. Some combos sync incredibly well to the jovial, flirtatious à la mode and as such, it makes the video a joy to re-watch many months later.
What's next for Year 2?

Let me discuss my thoughts about the upcoming year.
After the Bayonetta 3 combo video, I was admittedly frustrated with the combat system to the point of burning out. While I recognize that I have some sort of personal responsibility to document high level techniques, I don't really know when I'll get around to it. I've been sitting on a couple of scripts for a few months now but every time I attempt to touch the game, it leaves me with this feeling that my time should be better spent elsewhere.
There are many projects that I would like to work on but I've had very limited free time as of late. I don't know what or when my next upload will be but whether it's related to action games or one of my silly music covers, I do hope you stick around!
Thank you so much for your support during the first year! I hope I can release a few surprises in the upcoming year...
Best wishes!

Reflection and Evaluation of Learning 4
Sound design was something I had always done on my own, however this time i worked with 2 groups of people, the first didnt really do anything, but the second were working in a file format which I was unfamilier with AAF files. This is an advanced multimedia file type which can contain lots of types of data such as images and sounds seperated into their different layers. AAF seems to be the ultimate audio designing file type as its used in Pro Tools and FL Studio. I however had no way of opening these files, and i had to reformat my audio in a way which the sound designers could use in their software.
The software I had been using to add audio was Premiere Pro however my file was mixed in stereo and to import files into Pro Tools the file must be mono.
A bit of context so the next part makes sense... I had 14 audio tracks originally
Alex (Vocal)
Hugh with some Alex (Vocal)
Glenda (Vocal)
Van
Woosh
Movement
Scratch audio
Other sound effects 1
Other sound effects 2
Music
Clothing
Overflow1
Overflow2
Overflow3
With all my audio on separated and themed layers I created a new document with multichannel audio enabled, I then copied all the tracks from the old document to the new (creating another identical set of 14 tracks). However as this document is multichannel audio I set the total number of audio channels to 8.
(above are the tracks, there are 14 but the window was too small to show all the tracks at once so its cropped off a few)
I then each track to be panned entirely to the left or right in an alternating pattern (as seen below)
When I exported this document as an .AAF file it pushes the 14 audio tracks through 8 channels where the left and right are each different tracks. The software my sound engineers were using automatically assumed these stereo outputs as mono, and so would separate my 8 channels out back into their original 16 tracks
This process worked and enabled my sound designers access to the work I had already done and now I understand the software sound engineers use I am more prepared to format my work in a way (from the start) that is best for them. While yes, this is not strictly speaking animation skills, I do think learning this was important as I plan to work with the same sound designers moving forward I do also see that this might have been a slight waste of time if my goal was to only finish my film.
I could have put this time into other things which may have had more immediate impacts but I am happy I prioritised this as the deadline for the MA is not the same as the deadline for my film, and moving forward this is so useful to have and understanding of.
This information was way out of my comfort zone and so I used a couple of tutorials to educate myself on the subject.

Animation Skills "Audio Project" Part 6
I'm still working on the animation and I also created this music in the Music Line program. It's quite simple, but it can be uncomfortable, and that's why I like the way it sounds. And when I'm done with the animation, I'm going to start inserting all the sounds that I created in Adobe Premiere.
On top is a sound of the sea that my friend created, and he recommended me this program where you can create not only sound but also music. So he taught me how to work in Music Line, and it made it a little easier to work on the project.
Research Element 11
Solid Drawing
Solid Drawing is the process of adding height, depth, and weight to a drawing to make it look believable on a 2D surface. With the help of this animation process volume, weight and balance are added and the drawings are then turned into three-dimensional figures. In 2D animation, Solid Drawing is the technique through which you add depth and weight to an image. This method gives the 2D image a 3D effect.
Solid drawing remains one of the most crucial principles for achieving convincing, high-quality animation. By mastering the visual language of form, light, structure and shape, skilled animators can make their work pop off the page with dimension and appeal.
Joanna Quin
Joanna(1962) was born in Birmingham, England and completed a foundation course in art at Goldsmiths College, University of London before studying for a BA in Graphic Design at Middlesex University. It was here that Joanna first discovered the magic of animation, quickly adapting her unique drawing abilities to produce beautifully fluid and dynamic animated passages. Her first film, Girl’s Night Out (1986), won 3 prizes at the Annecy Animation Festival in 1987 and thrust her into the international animation scene.
Joanna moved to Wales in 1985 and founded Beryl Productions shortly afterwards with her partner, producer/writer Les Mills. The couple have collaborated closely in the production of animated films and as educators ever since.
Joanna is now a highly acclaimed figure in world animation and was named Animation Laureate 2013 by ASIFA International. Three of her films, Famous Fred (1996), The Wife of Bath (1998) and Affairs of the Art (2021) have received Oscar nominations.

Week 9
After conducting a 3-minute video interview and editing it down to 2 minutes using Adobe Premiere Pro. I learned how to edit the timeline to perfectly sync the video and audio in 2 different clips, how to add cuts, transitions, adding overlays, and how to do multi-track editing and add the name of the interviewee at the beginning on Adobe Premiere Pro. Also, I learned how to do color grading by adding video effects or animations via Adobe Premiere Pro. It was important to learn all of the concepts and technical skills in Adobe Premiere Pro to effectively edit things by using things such as the scale to get rid of unnecessary headroom. Moreover, during the time I filmed the video interview, I learned how to use the filmmaking technique called the “180 rule” to get 2 different angles of the same footage in the video interview.
Sports organisations can drive fan engagement, and followings on their social media platforms with videos such as interviews. As a result, they can open streams of revenue by doing things such as monetizing their content, or offering subscriptions for loyal fans. (Johan Cruyff Institue, 2021).
A substantial amount of fans engage with a lot of video content provided by sports organisations. Video interviews are considered to be useful as it will form a good relationship and increase loyalty between the organisation and the fans. This is because they will feel happy to see exclusive interviews and interactive video content. This will drive fan engagement, brand advocacy and generate revenue for the sports organisation (SEEN, n.d.).

VIDEO INTERVIEW SHARED ON CANVA (BECAUSE CAN'T ATTACH BIG FILES IN HERE)
Please note that the video is 1 minute and 56 seconds, because the group member (interviewee) talked about some irrelevant things, so we couldn't add anything else to get exactly 2 minutes.

Live Brief - VII
This post introduces week 3, which is the period of production where we gradually began constructing the cinematic cutscene.
At the beginning of week 3, and after our regular meeting as a group, I began by researching sound design, specifically for cinematic pieces. One resource in particular that I found useful as a guide for the task is Aidin Robbin's "My Process for Cinematic SOUND DESIGN" video on YouTube. It conveniently showcased a breakdown of his process as well as explained what makes good sound design by coordinating visual and auditory elements together. I also learned how to create ambience through sound to indicate shifts in the atmosphere in between and throughout main actions.
A big part of sound design is the active gathering of audio files and effects, thus, I dissected the storyline into segments that will affect sound. This allowed me to make a list of possible sounds that I would need later on such as main soundtracks, footsteps, slamming sounds, etc... I hopped on YouTube where I found my two main soundtracks "Thebes" and "War Music", and the rest of the mp3 files were collected from websites like Freesound and Pixabay.

Week 8 of Mda20009: Face filters
Most humans want to be perfect, as beautiful as they can be, it is one of the unique traits of humans. That is why filter exists, they are made so that people can alter their image online, to give strangers the illusion of perfection and beauty, forced on them by societal standards. Given what society expects of women to become perfect, “a battlefield of diverging concepts” (Coy-Dibley 2016, p. 2). It makes sense that so many people struggling with severe body dysphoria over their appearance, while other people may end up changing their bodies permanently as a result of these "quick fixes”. To desperately make their online persona look better, for example when social distancing started, the usage of face filters have sky-rocketed, some apps even surpassed 20%. And right now, filters are already included in a lot of social networking platforms, and even editing software have multiple filters already built-in like adobe premiere and photoshop, so they are basically free to those who know where to find them.
Not even significant adjustments are required; a small reduction in waist circumference or a mild smoothing of the pores would do. Dysphoria is the result of an increasing distance between a person's idealized, digitally augmented self or their "online persona" and their true self. This is very unhealthy since it can cause numerous mental diseases and issues. The likelihood of experiencing mental health issues and disorders, such as body dysmorphic disorder, eating disorders, anxiety, sadness, and OCD-related issues, also rises (Rodulfo, 2020). Most of the media that we consume has been altered in some way, especially on social media, where the majority of celebrities and influencers edit their photos before posting them.
Since we are aware that most of what we see isn't "real," why does it still have such an impact on us? That is the one question I cannot answer for you.
