i’m going to have to format this horribly and i apologize in advance, but i really need to share just how insane this lady was.

customer comes in on tuesday to place a large order for pickup on sunday at 11. no worries, happens all the time. i ring her up, cash her out, print out a second copy of the receipt. say “alright cool! i’ll put this on the calendar, hang your receipt in the office, and let my other managers know to expect you sunday at 11 :)”

and then the floodgates open. “what if my husband needs to pick it up?” yeah no worries as long as he gives us the name on the order— your name— it’ll be fine. “do you need id’s?” uhhh no. “ok what if he’s late?” yeah no worries we keep the orders behind the counter until they’re picked up. “ok how do i keep the food warm?” uh it comes in metal pans, so— “but if i need to reheat it?” uh i guess the oven would work, maybe? “you don’t have an official recommendation?” uh no not really, i would just use the oven— “i thought corporate would give you guys a way to do this.” no they don’t really, just the oven maybe? “what if you’re late?” i’m sorry? “what if we arrive for pickup and you’re not done?” oh, well we start the orders fifteen minutes ahead of time at least, if we don’t have it right on time it shouldn’t be a long wait at all. “ok the party is at noon, it’s not gonna take an hour is it?” no it shouldn’t take— “can you guarantee that?” well it’s a sunday during graduation season and you’re not our only large order at that time so i can’t guarantee anything but— “ok, what on my receipt says it’s for pickup on sunday?” uh, nothing? “why?” our pos system can’t account for orders placed today for pickup in the future, so we just— “why not?” it just doesn’t have that capability— “how is my order going to be ready on time?” so like i said earlier, i’m going to use our calendar, put a copy of your receipt in the managers office, and use our manager teams chat to make sure we’re all aware of it. (this bit i had to explain multiple times. i still don’t think she understood.) “when i was on the phone earlier it seemed like you guys had a better process for it.” well this is our process that we use for every pickup order. “hmm okay. whatever.” and then she left. i thought id be done dealing with her.

and then on saturday she called our store again and spoke to our assistant gm. was just as annoying to her. first insisted it was a mobile order— which runs off a totally separate pos system— and then got mad when my agm couldn’t find it, so she was screaming that she spoke to someone on counter. when my agm was able to find the order and confirm pickup time, she once again asked a million questions about pickup and wanted to make sure it would be ready on time. she asked for my agms name, and said “what are YOU, jane doe, going to do to ensure my order is done on time?” agm said i’m off tomorrow so i’ll let my other managers know to be ready for you. this witch had the audacity to insist she come in on her day off to “oversee the order.” agm said no. customer demands to know who’s going to oversee the order instead. agm says the gm, who’s on shift for pickup. customer asks for his name and phone number?!? agm obviously says here’s his name but i am not giving you his phone number. customer huffs and puffs about it but accepts the situation. hopefully pickup goes off without a problem i guess.

Im gonna sound really incoherent beacuase I had this idea last night right before falling asleep and I'm writing this at six in the morning after just waking up but.

Pre forsaken azuretime + Spawn cult stuff based VERY loosely on the cat cult web comic Jumalanpelko (Go read it it's So Good. And here on Tumblr too)

So they were doomed from the beginning. Like from the second they met. The Spawn demands sacrifices, and the higher priests of the cult can do nothing but give them. It needs two souls, with one stab. One to swallow whole, one to infect (elevate, in the cultists eyes, this is the 'second life', truly but an infection).

But how do you remove two people's souls while only killing one? You bond them real close then make one kill the other, of course. So the cult has indeed been making 'bonded pairs' over the years, just to always have a duo to readily feed to the Spawn. There's been a bit of everything over in different duos, platonic, romantic, hell, some even were outright siblings, the only requirement is that they bond so closely they can be considered 'to share a soul'.

That was the case with Azure and Two Time! Well... Kinda. They just naturally got really close, and since the actual couple the priests chose wasn't advancing quite fast enough, and the It was growing restless, they just changed their focus to our favorite little freaks.

And we all know what happened don't we. Yeah? Yeah.

Long story short, the Spawn is not a God, but some eldritch parasite that likes slurping up souls, and Azuretime was doomed from the start and they had NO idea!

It has demonstrated to all the West’s foes, including Iran’s allies in Moscow and Beijing, that our system of free markets and free people, and the voluntary alliance network we have constructed to defend it, generates resources and capabilities of vast technical superiority.

Above all, it has provided an unexpected but crucial reminder to our enemies that there are at least some willing and able to pursue and defeat them whatever the risk to our own lives and resources.

The only appropriate responses to Israel’s gallantry, fortitude and skill from us – its nominal allies, especially in the US – are “thank you” and “how can we help?”

Instead, time and again Israel’s supposed friends, including the administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, have, while expressing sympathy over the outrage of October 7 and uttering the usual support for “Israel’s right to defend itself”, repeatedly tried to restrain it from doing just that.

Their early, valuable support has been steadily diminished by the way they have too often connived with the anti-Israel extremists in their own party.

Before Israel had even buried its dead last October and as Hamas was busy murdering its hostages, there were calls for Israel to cease fire.

For a year we have heard our leaders’ “balanced” condem - nations of Hamas and its terror masters on the one hand and the Jewish state on the other, a false equivalence that says more about the moral disorder in our own politics than about Israel’s motives and actions.

In Europe, they have gone even further, as usual, rewarding Hamas and Hezbollah by nominally recognising a non-existent Palestinian state and prosecuting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on bogus war crimes charges.

Do they not get that in the end we have to make a choice: our ally, on the front lines of defence against barbarism, or our enemies, those who literally want to see us all buried? Fortunately for all of us, it seems Israel is prevailing despite the chorus of hecklers.

Perhaps all this sounds too blithe for sceptical readers; or at least premature given the rising expectation of a much wider conflict to come. And it is true that there has been awful loss of innocent lives in Gaza, Lebanon and elsewhere that undoubtedly fuels the ire of the enemy across the world. What if Netanyahu and his government’s aggressive prosecution proves a Pyrrhic victory? But that wider conflict was perhaps always inevitable, given Iran’s stated objectives and its consistent efforts to achieve them. We can say two things tentatively about that long-feared wider confrontation.

First, the strategic, tactical, intelligence and technological genius Israel has demonstrated over the past year might have done so much damage to Iran’s proxy armies and their military and political leaders that they will be illprepared and equipped for the bigger struggle to come, and Israel – and, let’s hope, reliable allies – better placed to defeat its enemies.

Second, having observed this Israeli superiority over that time and eagerness not to bring the destruction on itself a wide war would surely bring, perhaps Iran will be deterred.

Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few, Winston Churchill said of the men of the Royal Air Force after they had repelled Hitler’s Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. (Reminder to some recently confused “conservatives”: the former were the good guys; the latter the real villains.) We should echo those words today as we watch in awe what a country smaller in area than New Jersey, with a population less than North Carolina’s and an economy smaller than that of Washington state has done for all of us.

As Israelis mark a year since October 7, we should not only redouble our expressions of sympathy and solidarity. We should show them our gratitude, and if we are willing to be honest, acknowledge a little of our own shame.
