High Priestess Peseshet, also known as the first woman physician in recorded history. Of all the ancient civilizations, Kemet was known for granting women various privileges often lacking in patriarchal societies such as in Greece or Persia. In Kemet, social equality was not a problem, and women were able to exercise power (Queen Hatshepsut, Nefertiti), manage religious worship (priestesses, and oracles), and also foreign affairs (Tiye, mother of Akhenaten and grandmother of Tutankhamun). As such, the example of Peseshet is quite interesting because she is the oldest woman physician in the recorded history of mankind. The Great Migration is the largest overland migration in the world. The animals travel a total of 800km or more during each cycle. It is not just wildebeest that migrate in the Serengeti. The Great Migration contains over 2 million animals, including 300,000 zebras and a whole assortment of antelope such as impala, eland and Thompson’s gazelles. The finished sleepy rhino pencil draw of the other day ♡ Did you know that white and black rhinos are both two horned but still easy to distinguish? White rhinos are huge, actually they are the second largest land mammal after the elephant(!) while black rhinos are smaller, but still they can reach 1.5 metres in height and weigh on at 1.4 tonnes! Black rhinos can be distinguished by their pointed upper lip (hence the alternative name, hook-lipped rhino) while the white rhino is also known as the square-lipped rhinoceros due to their square shaped upper lip. Now you surely can tell which species was drawn by me? :) You may know that, although international trade in rhino horn has been banned under CITES, rhino populations are still un danger due to illegal poaching, especially in South Africa. There are 20,000 white rhinos and just 5,000 black rhinos left in the wild, their status is still critically endangered. I hope one day, and soon, poaching will be stopped, for all the anti-poaching efforts made and also, because finally we all understand, that the only one who truly needs and can benefit from a rhino horn is the rhino itself..
