I'm not sure if it's a chicken and egg situation - whether these specific designs elements are often used in PSA posters or television graphics Because they're eye-catching and instil this sense of urgency in the viewer, or bc I associate them w/ messages that cause a fear response - but like, red block text and an overexposed black and white image on a dark backdrop will make me feel viscerally anxious every time. you could put any combination of innocent imagery together following those visuals and I'd go :( I don't like it.

God…. how do i…. they have so much going on …. lets start with the basics hes her dad. Obviously. thats her dad. he was handed a baby and just went Ok!!!!!!!! and took care of her forever. thats her dad. Iris’ main, initial frame of reference for The World and Being A Person is This Fucking Guy.

There is also the fact that thru most of the games she is not Calling Him her dad </3 consequences of. him telling her hes not her dad ansbJSHJSNSJSNSJSNWJS. even still as ryuu & susato say they have a parent child relationship … for the jokes abt iris being more lkke the parent of course which Is True and a Straightforward Joke But Still Really Funny. but he still is. like. The Dad Equivalent. Her Guardian. even when not actually Her Dad. they have a mutual duty of care. Sherlock makes sure they have money to buy food & Iris actually Makes Edible Food and thats about it you know.

they have the funniest fucking dynamic. Ever,. they treat each other like Equals. they talk to each other like Colleagues. They literally try to steal money from each other. iris bullies him all of the time and he also sort of bullies her back. Iris walks around loudly announcing embarrassing facts about him in public and Sherlock yells at her about it and no one feels bad and they love each other. and she kicks him. theyre so funny

in terms of Their Relationship Dynamic there is no way to improve upon it. there is nothing to change. theyre perfect. this is the best relationship ever. but i still of course have lots of headcanons about them. where do i even begin

for one thing as is probably already clear i thimk every day abt what capcom refuses to give us answers on: Iris’ Early Childhood and The Process Of Sherlock Raising Her. please i wanna know what that was like. And continues to be like tbh its just not something we see much bc its not relevant to ryuus side of things…… First of all: he has undeniably tried his best to take care of her and done an overall good job. look at her. Mikotoba would not have trusted sherlock with an entire fucking baby if he was not confident the man could like. Handle It. Successfully keep another human alive and make sure she comes out overall well adjusted and all that. But hes still. Sherlock Holmes (Ace Attorney Character). He. again. does not seem to have any perspective on what to prioritize. I just think he went “okay time to teach iris The Basics” and then jumped straight from “heres how to write your name” to giving her lectures on something he learned the other day about aerodynamics and skipped over a bunch of stuff in between and didn’t really realize until she, like, saw an owl and went UNAUTHORIZED FUCKING BEAST? because she was like 5 and had still never heard of an owl.

Also im glad everyone in the world independently got up and thought “he definitely took that baby to crime scenes” because he definitely took that baby to crime scenes. Like. As everyone has said 200 times. What the hell else is he gonna do? He has to take cases or he DIES. There is no one he is close enough to for him to go Hey take my baby for a while. 9. Awesome Socks Club

I saw a tumblr post from Hank Green about his socks subscription service where each month they get a new indie artist to design a pair of socks and all of their profits go to charity and look. i couldn't not do it. i fucking love weird quirky socks i was doomed from the moment i saw the words "awesome socks club".

8. REGALROSE (feat. Betrayal hoop dagger earrings)

REGALROSE is a UK based company that makes supremely badass jewelry. i picked up these dagger earrings to complement a wedding outfit and i think it worked very well if i do say so myself. Tbh very challenging to get good close ups of these lol so you're just gonna have to take my word for it that they're just as cool and badass in person as you might imagine. Favorite earring purchase of the year hands down!

7. Across a Field of Starlight by Blue Delliquanti

Became a huge fan of Blue Delliquanti after reading their excellent webcomic O Human Star (HUGELY recommend if you're in the mood for good sci fi with strong queer/trans themes btw!) and was thrilled to find out that they were coming out with a YA sci fi graphic novel with nonbinary protagonists earlier this year. Even more thrilled to discover how tender and heartfelt the story was!! Highly recommend for any graphic novel/sci fi enthusiasts!!

5. Sleepy Peach (feat. Choose Violence sweater vest, Locals Only bomber jacket, & Bird of Paradise cardigan)

Sleepy Peach is an independent clothing store that makes some bombass clothing, so colorful and fun and eyecatching! a friend sent me a link to their Instagram and i went OOH and never went back. I basically lived in the bomber jacket for most of the year and i have absolutely no regrets

4. Classics but Make it Gay: Volume II (edited by Nova & Mali)

Nova & Mali are a small queer publishing house that puts out some really incredible queer-themed art books and projects. This is part of a series that reimagines classic art through a queer/trans lens and it's absolutely gorgeous from start to finish, featuring so many talented artists it honestly blows my mind. They're planning on putting together a Volume III next year which I'm really looking forward to supporting!! (i also have digital copies of Cover Me Queer, an art book of queer-themed romance novel covers, and their Our Flag Means Death fanzine and they're both fantastic, just some outstanding work from these folks)

3. The Calorum Cookbook (unofficial Dimension 20 inspired fanzine)

Dimension 20's "A Crown of Candy" has an INSANELY talented fandom, it's truly jaw-dropping. The Calorum Cookbook is a charity fanzine cookbook inspired by ACOC's world that collects original recipes and TONS of amazing accompanying fanart and spot art. The layout is so professional and aesthetically pleasing, the recipes look so delicious (can't wait to try my hand at some of them!) and they even all come with little blurbs of in-world fanmade lore that put the recipes in the context of the show's setting in such a fun and creative way! Everything about this zine delights me and I'm so glad i decided to purchase a physical copy so I can hold it in my hands with childish delight and wonder. unfortunately i don't think they're selling physical copies anymore but I still recommend checking out the featured artists and contributors, this is a cool bunch of people!

2. Kinwamonster (feat. Monster Train bag, Big Bad jacket, & Home sweater)

One of my favorite independent clothing brand discoveries of the year! run primarily by one artist, i'm just so in love with the aesthetic and the quality of these products. This sweater is seriously the comfiest thing i own and i use the monster train bag for everything, it fits basically everything i need when I'm out and about. don't even get me started on this jacket, if it were possible to put it on and never take it off I ABSOLUTELY WOULD. I think they're currently on break but I'm really excited to see what they'll release in the new year!!!

This is undoubtedly one of the coolest purchases i have ever made in my goddamn life. unfortunately i am so hopelessly lazy and haven't gotten a frame for it yet so it's basically just sitting on my bedroom wall right now but MY GOD it is glorious. Thank you Amy Reeder for making such wonderfully compelling character art for dimension 20 and for the amazing opportunity to get my hands on the real actual lineart of my favorite npc of my favorite d20 season!!!!

why aespa trying to bring back y2k trends with a cd player? yet they make it too expensive and ofc in todays world everything expensive tends to sell out but what we had back then did the same exact thing so imho it is nothing spectacularly different than that. even their song falls flat for me, the girlies were just mumbling stuff about space. also i watched bits of universe ticket, predictable lineup as with ioi and pd48 nothing surprises me anymore. i need something eyecatching.

sighhh why cant these groups ever do anything totally different? nothings catching my eye anymore either lyrics are getting shorter the songs themselves are getting shorter, our attention spans have already dwindled. i feel like a boomer saying this but there really isnt much left to enjoy abt the modern world in my opinion i shouldve been from olden times.

i tried with kpop so many times but only some of it seem to hold my attention briefly and even then i dont particularly care for it deeply not like i used too. i feel like my generation has had its era in music and now its time for new generations to have their music obsessions. even bts tend to fall short for me generally bc i cannot partake in their events either cost or whatever else travel etc etc is pointless to me now. unless basic needs became free for everyone then people wouldnt need to be millionaires and music groups would be able to experiement more freely but they only seem to put whatever out and it gets lapped up with not much thought into it cause everyone wanna be a millionaire it seems.

i also wish some trends wouldve just stayed in the past. these groups arent from that era they dont know nothing about preinternet smartphone life lol. what would amaze me if a group really tried without needing tiktok or youtube or any internet at all for them to gain success it is still doable just theyd have to really aim for it themselves and sadly most groups require more attention than what they deserve.

it's just the 90s again like tlc and destiny child. well, they said on music stages they make $36 from it and then have to sometimes split with the group. they were singing university live and it seem good.

maybe with ticket places being sue it cost like $24 because Megan is $24 and this other solo act was so you never know what will happen,

okay, i’ve mulled about my knb nitpicks, how to word them. think i’ve got it.

-i prolly rated s3 lower in part bc i initially found it underwhelming with how the show resolve kagakuro’s childhood friends that helped them with basketball?

for kagami, in general, i’m sorry i just didn’t find himuro all that likeable until the kuroko birthday episode tbh, and i wished you could have had glimpses of that sooner — in part, you can’t bc himuro has his inferiority complex with kagami, but. that leads to another issue.

i kinda wanted more with ogiwara originally? bc he turns up, and they have a phone conversation about him getting back into basketball so they’ll hopefully play against each other sincerely the next year (in a way that a was flat out impossible when it was with teikou). but i thought about while it rewatching and… ogiwara never really had the fallout like kagahimu did? his issues wasn’t with kuroko, exactly, but he wanted to play against a kuroko who enjoyed basketball—something that kuroko himself was trying to find, and would probably only get after he had succeeded in finding a way for the gom to enjoy playing basketball again too, which is something ogiwara also wanted! bc kuroko had confided in him and kept in touch with him during the teikou days, ogiwara knew how important his team meant to him. so for him to sit out the current&next year… it was fine. bc he was trying to motivate kuroko, somewhat, and kuroko found a way to succeed. and with that achieved, ogiwara can now look forward to playing against kuroko. so the conflict between them was different, and while i would have liked a smidge more of ogiwara, i don’t know if much more was actually needed?

-this is me being petty but i think i may have docked s3 for the eyecatches/team line up. i actually liked them at the midway point of the episode, but i was annoyed that it was only in s3 and not in s1&2. the fact it only happened in s3 made them grate a little even if they’re a cute idea but like… either have them in all seasons or not at all??? don’t introduce them in the last season!!!

-kagami’s side of the story is really weak. idk if it’s an adaptation choice or if it’s the case of the manga but… not an awful lot of time is spent that much with alex or himuro, so i care much less about them. but. alex, generally pretty gross, as a fan service object. i don’t know how old she is either but it doesn’t help. also himuro’s team only get one match so it’s harder to gauge growth tbh? but i enjoyed his interactions with takao, and i liked seeing kagami get on with himuro, so maybe had the flashback dragged their friendship out more, before himuro’s insecurity and bullshit promise happen, i could have rooted for it more. or shown more angst and conflict on kagami’s side, idk. but it was kinda glossed over for me.

-so yeah for me, s2 is both best (hanamiya & murasakibara) and worst (alex & himuro) season out of the three (momoi being used for fan service also not great btw)

-i think the anime would have benefited from spending a little more time not playing basketball and seeing them off court shenanigans tbh. i might have cared more for various characters (seirin & himuro) if that had been the case. you do get snippets often, but… it wasn’t enough beyond barely being serviceable. they’re cute and funny, but my investment levels are neutral tbh. like the moe couplets don’t mean much to me, bc it’s sometimes just feels as if the gom need a minder, and supposing that something similar to kurokaga is happening to the gom in their separate teams. imahana are my special guys, tho, since i got a penchant for nasty personalities and creeping people out, and the fact that these two have history, commenting on each other’s matches.

despite that. yeah, this show is a 10/10. why? bc kuroko succeeds in his goals. from the start to finish, it’s about kuroko trying to enjoy basketball again, and help his teikou teammates to enjoy basketball again. and he succeeds. and i fucking care about the gom!!! while i am ambivalent to seirin (sans kagami), i absolutely see how seirin is the team kuroko needed, so it works for kuroko, which in turn works for me. this whole thing was started by kuroko and ogiwara, even tho it’s peripheral, but it ended with them hoping to play next year, so it does feel full circle to me.

i love the gom & kagami friendships. i love the superhero sport matches. the soundtrack is awesome. i am consistently entertained.

so yeah, it was really worthwhile to rewatch and see how my feelings had changed or stayed the same.

and either kpop has always wanted to make it big in the states or its totally lost its track, i mean its odd how on surival shows they make temporary groups then disband them after short time or theres rhe odd group with a one hit wonder and they just didnt bother exploring any further talent with them

i wouldnt say its lost its spark but its not doing it in a way that makes me wowed by every group yaknow? its more of a like what even is kpop anymore? its not westernising its song but its trying to make it smth else by adding so much westerners and practically forcing the groups in every american brand and label there is isnt it, when i dont follow bts for their brand collabs lol. theyve almost overdone it too a point of no return to the basics so ofc these newer groups arent going to hone in in their skills when they expect the same public reaction for each group that wants to be the next bts

maybe its also the fact that music as a whole is so glamorised and excessive as well that its never simple anymore very few good vocals and synchronised dancing where groups cant even let loose fully on stage without having it be absolutely perfect even their hair colour has worn off on me like its not as dramatic as it was when i first found out they did all this stuff its just got so typical / nothing too new or eyecatching. itd be like asking avril lavigne in 00s to do full on choreo when shes a singer not dancer

i still enjoy their performances but they need to let loose and slow tf down sometimes or expect less to start with rather than putting a pity them and their hardships narrative out. itd be nice to see groups really work for it instead of them only doing it bc they want it rely on things like internet trends or tiktok challenges songs that have dance choruses instead of vocals can get boring bc ik its only for the dance to go viral on tiktik. otherwise they not doing it for music or their fans. its like there has to be more to them than just pretty face aegyo and good dancing

ps i loved seeing joong with a guitar he suits that as well oml ateez has so much talent and potential, i hope they dont let it get to their heads

I can only come at this with a western perspective, but it's always interesting to me watching a genre shift and change. I wonder what it's like to the people who have been fans since first gen - what they think about what groups do now versus then, that kind of thing.

my favorite characters so far is yangzhou rice, he's the one that really caught my attention cuz i was so smitten with him when i first saw him in the prologue. then next is dezhou chicken, i find his story with fuli so heartwarming bc it also reminds me of my bond with my sisters so yeah i love him and his chara design is eyecatching too.

Ah, but I agree that Dezhou and Fuli's story is heartwarming. It's also a true tearjerker for anyone who loves a good found family 🥺 they care for him each other so much and it's makes me go ahhhhhhhhh. we need more visually interesting book covers and movie posters again. like sorry but i DO judge things by their cover, if im looking at like a giant collection of books or animes or movies sorted by genre, obviously the coolest looking one is gonna grab my attention first and pull me in. as much as i would like to, i cant check every single one, i already spend enough time looking and adding to my watchlist this way. but also bc cool covers are cool. and theyre an exercise in epic visual art. like the perfect blue posters n the lobster movie posters still stick in my mind today. and those cheesy painted romance book covers look gorgeous to me and always have, but so many books with covers of real life ppl or objects, like pictures, just... dont look good to me, esp not eyecatching either.

myle!!!! beloved. ok i know i told you i needed time but i am finally forcing myself to do this. unfair as we all know i can only put 10 images in here, so here comes my ranking of calum's top ten outfits of the tour so far!

Starting off, in first place:

1. Milan (May 8th).There’s just something about suits — black suits — that just does it for me. It’s classy, if you do it the usual way, but because he’s Calum Hood and he’s insane, he wore a mesh shirt with it! Gracing us all with nice sneak-peeks of his tattoos. The docs with it really make the look for me, making it edgy. 10/10.

2. Ljubljana (May 6th). Listen. You might not expect this one to be so high up, but hear me out — this outfit is good. He tucked the shirt in, wore a nice grey to let the blue shine, the shirt itself is just one of my absolute personal favourites of his. It has such a pretty colour, the collar is cool with its v-shape, and the necklace really makes it, giving it all a nice finish. The thing about some of his tour outfits so far is that they’re not always… complete. Like there’s a nice shirt okay, and pants, but that’s where the list ends. This outfit is different. It’s fucking good. Almost perfect. 9.5/10.

3. Zurich (May 2nd). Another rather simple outfit, but i really love it. I like the short sleeves on the shirt, the choker/necklace with it, the cut of the pants. The whole dark colour (black i’m pretty sure although it looked green somewhere) really compliments his skin tone. It works so well for him over all! 9/10.

4. Hamburg (April 25th). My show hehe. I LOVE this shirt. What the fuck! It’s so cool, I love the stark contrasts and the motive. Besides, he paired it with shorts (sorry not to show them but i couldn’t not show that grin), and higher socks, and it was just hot. 9/10.

5. Prague (April 29th). Look. The orange sleeves are an eyecatcher. They lift the whole look up to another level! (I’m also an advocate for orange.) i really like it even tho it was otherwise simple. Also, again, the short sleeved button up and shorts with the socks, I am a fan! 8/10.

6. London (April 6th). I think we can all agree that we went a little insane over this. Right? Like… that shirt… had no business being that tight…. Also i really liked the pants! Green on Calum Hood is always a yes from me. And he’s smiling so cute. Apart from that: arm. Thank you! 7/10.

7. Plymouth (April 11th). This outfit has one fault. It is just a little too boring. I love the button up! It’s flowey and of thin material and an interesting pale colour, the cut is really nice, and he makes the wide pants with it work. But. It doesn’t go much further than that unfortunately. Great potential, but not perfectly executed. 7/10.

8. Vienna (May 3rd). Vienna! Vienna. If you missed my reblog spree of this photo you missed out. I reblogged that photo 20 times for a reason. I like this outfit! More every day than stage maybe, but I like that it puts black on the sideline for once, and the grey pants look great on him. The shirt is obviously also very nice. Also necklace. He knows what he’s doing with that and i don’t like it. 6.89/10.

9. Banquet Show (1) in London (April 1st)/Liverpool (April 9th). I’m putting these two together because he wore the same pants and only a different shirt in Liverpool with it. I like the pants, they’re fun! And especially in this case i like the long sleeve bc of the flames on the sleeve. He also wore the necklace with it. Even tho this is also a cosier outfit, the pants do make it and allow this one to be a 6/10.

10. Budapest (April 30th). The thing about this outfit is that while, Arm, that’s also it. I do appreciate arm but i also appreciate fitted clothes, sorry. It’s over all also very… normal. In comparison to the others. So that’s while it only gets a 4/10. Sorry!

Okay turns out I do have a lot of thoughts about Pharaoh Tuck's design. I know everyone refers to this design as King Tuck which is easier and creates the allusion to King Tut(ankhamun) but Pharaohs are cooler, sorry not sorry.

Anywayyyyyyy... let's talk about it.

Just so we all have the same amount of knowledge here, the Ancient Egypt everyone typically refers to is Egypt pre-death of Cleopatra and the fall of the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Roughly 30 BC, I want to say 2,000 years ago but my calendar math has always been terrible. Most of the popularized pharaohs especially Tutankhamun were recorded to rule in 1332-1323 BC a good 1,200 years before Cleopatra. Again my math may be off because BC dates are confusing.

I mostly want to talk about the crown because in terms of fashion ancient Egyptians mostly wore a combination of Shenti, linen kilts, and sandals, especially men. There was a lot of variation in colors because Egyptians used a lot of minerals to dye their material, but white is the color most commonly associated with their clothes since it reflected the desert sun. There have been depictions in art that show the largest evolution in the men's fashion were the addition of sheer blouses with pleated sleeves during the New Kingdom Era where it was thought Egypt to be at its most prosperous. All that to say the clothes are perfectly serviceable and they have a nice gold trim around the edges which I think makes them ornate enough. If we really wanted to add some historical accuracy points a lot of Egyptian royalty were recorded owning leopard skins but had a lot of stigmas associated with animal furs, especially wool.

Crowns and jewelry were what really separated the commoners from the pharaohs. The crown Tucker is wearing isn't actually a crown, it's a fiber headdress called a Nemes that covered the whole head and top of the shoulders. Tutankhamun's Death Mask was depicted wearing a Nemes,

Rameses III, and IV, Amenemhat III, Akhenaten, were also depicted wearing Nemes in their paintings and statues.

However, I believe the reason why the Nemes became visual shorthand for Pharaoh is because of the 1956 Film version of the Ten Commandments, as well as the fact that in the early 20s-40s Tutankhamun was all the rage, as he was one of the most preserved mummies ever found at that period of time and well people were nuts. They believed ground-up mummies were aphrodisiacs of all things-- but that's neither here nor there.

There were actually several different crowns worn by pharaohs! though most of them didn't survive. But lucky for us, they were depicted in hieroglyphs or drawings. like the Atef(left) worn by Osiris ruler of the underworld.

Atef bears a resemblance to Hedjet (right), Atef is largely just a Hedjet with two curled ostrich feathers. The Hedjet belongs to the ruler of northern Egypt and symbolizes Horus, and goddess Nekhbet. Whom later united with another goddess Wadjet (she's actually the cobra you see adorning most of the headdresses and death masks) and formed one unified entity symbolizing the unity between upper and lower Egypt. which brings us to the double crown aka Pschent (as it was called by the greeks)

The translation of pschent (left) is "two ladies" which tells us of the two matriarchs of Egypt unifying. The bottom half of this crown was also another type of crown called the Deshret (right). It was worn by the ruler of the southern half of Egypt Which represented the goddess Wadjet.

All this context to talk about my favorite crown the Khepresh

There are no surviving Khepresh much like the other crowns. It was a much more ceremonial headdress, and largely worn for battle. I don't know why I like this one so much, I guess because it's so eyecatching, it's really flashy much like the Osiris crown. Tutankhamun was depicted wearing one in a few statues. As well As Nefertiti, Akhenaten, Thutmose IV, and Akhenaten

There are a few other ceremonial crowns and head wrappings so I'll lightning round them real quick.

The vulture crown (left) was worn by wives and female pharaohs, The crown of justification (right) was supposed to be worn to signify the wearers' victory over the underworld and Osiris and their enemies. Its made up of golden flowers as a tribute to Ra the sun god. There's the Radiant Crown, which is recorded to look like ram horns.

And that brings us to the Osiris beard. Pharaohs adopted a fake beard to mirror the appearance of the eternal ruler Osiris. It's actually been posited that Egyptians preferred to be clean-shaven but made synthetic beards to achieve the Osiris look. Female Pharaohs and nobles even adopted this trend to show their respect to Osiris. So I think that should stay.

With all this in mind, How would I go about fixing this design? Because personally, I'm kind of tired of Nemes being the default Egypt visual signifier. I'd spring for the Khepresh, I'd maybe lean further into the mummy wrapped in linen look, add more jewelry bc C'mon-- its Tucker, you can't tell me that he wouldn't be the flashiest/drippiest pharaoh he could be.

and that I think really what should have been done, this design should have been pushed a lot further to be over the top, drop-dead, gaudy.
