I am supposed to be watching the citadel arc so I can finally write the next chapter of In Every Possible Timeline (now you know why i've been putting it off. i've already put them through so much i'm not ready for the citadel) but all i can think about trying to watch it is how the narrative framing of Ahsoka showing up without permission pisses me off. like as a teacher.

because most of the time I can deal with the whole, this is a whole-ass fourteen year old thing. I grew up on books about child chosen ones and so on, I write a lot of that kind of thing in my original works, and frankly I think it's more interesting to explore the aftermath of such a story than wail and cry over how it never should have happened at all to this fictional character. Like. let's traumatise the made-up kids, it's good for the real kids to read as long as you talk about it the right ways. (I'm being blithe and simplistic here but if you want a ramble on what I mean just ask)

But the fact that in a universe where people's attempts at protecting kids from the dangerous shit around them generally amounts to "stay in the ship Anakin" to a child who has more than proven he could and would fly a ship on his own, this is the one circumstance where an adult makes a big deal and speech out of saying, "some things aren't for you. some things are too dangerous and it's my job to keep you safe" - and then it's all brushed off? Like Ahsoka's coming along without Anakin's permission is portrayed as a good thing and there's never any consequence to her presence there, we don't even get to see her regretting the emotional toll of all the losses which would be how I'd write it if I was going to. It's one thing to have a universe where kids doing shit that's wildly not what kids would do is just a matter of course. It's another to present an adult reasonably telling a child, "this is too much" (again. in that universe where "too much" is clearly a high bar) as being... foolish? Overprotective? If they want Anakin to seem overprotective they should have had him coddling Ahsoka way more, long before they got to the part where they infiltrated a hyper-deadly Jedi prison with no intel and no backup. like that's the most sensible thing Anakin Skywalker has ever done.

Shin's THE character Ever, she is Beautiful, she is So fascinated by things to do with the Jedi despite her master actively discouraging the connection, and she hasn't taken the many opportunities she's had to end Sabine because she's curious and interested in this other padawan *sticking my tongue out at the Shin hater*

As for the favourite drinks, forgive me because I know jack shit about anything here but

Scout: obviously, Bonk. You can’t chug that shit 4 times a day without being addicted to it.

Soldier: I have a random feeling it would be hot chocolate. Seems hearty and all round enjoyable, like America. He probably got some old lady who made it for him while he was killing Germans.

Pyro: much like Scout, loves bright and sugary drinks. Probably loves slushies and stuff.

Engineer: Whatever brand of beer he drinks while he’s sitting back (got no idea). Reminds him of home and simple pleasures.

Heavy: Sbiten (honey-based Russian mulled wine). I think he used to make it with his family before the war, and it reminds him of the cold.

Sniper: hasn’t considered it, but lives off coffee, straight black. Can’t say he loves it, but it’s extremely necessary.

Medic: although stereotypically enjoys German-brewed beer, his favourite drink would be tea. I think he and heavy drink it when reading together.

Spy: he meticulously picks and chooses the finest most refined alcohol for his smoking room. Secretly enjoys the fruitier drinks.
