It's actually disappointing to see someone make a good point about how "AI fics shouldn't be posted on AO3" and people immediately go to how "it's a good thing it's tagged so it can be excluded" and then practically jump OP about it.

Maybe it's just me, but while I agree AI fics should be tagged as AI fics so they can be excluded when you want to search for genuinely written by a human fics... I don't think they should exist in the first place, let alone be seen in the same regard as other fics that are written by actual people.

It's not about it being tagged.

It's about how it shouldn't exist in the first place.

AI fucking sucks and I don't care to have to add another thing to exclude when I want to find a fic to read because people want to steal and generate trash and add it to a collection of fics that actually have feeling to it.

I rather read a fic with no paragraph breaks, incorrect capitalization mistakes and grammar errors (sometimes I do, I'll be honest, we all been there and we learn) than that AI bullshit.

It shouldn't have to be tagged in the first place if it doesn't exist.

Is anyone else a bit fed up with all this non consensual "legal" art theft?

Just about every major social platform has added into their terms and conditions the right to scrape your art and data to train all their personal ai's without any kind of choice to opt out that actually opts them out.

Their solution to the problem is to not use their platform.

They say this knowing full well that is not an option, especially for small businesses and artists reliant on large social platforms for growth, sales, and reach. It's essentially denial of service of platforms that have become a necessity in this age for creators, and they know it.

A yes without the freedom or ability to say no, is NOT a yes

Checking In

Good day my fellow exhausted creatives, it sure does be A Time we're going through. There is certainly a lot of things happening at once, and like many of you I'm struggling to stay afloat while desperately playing catch-up. I'll be honest, shit's pretty damn fucked up. Sometimes it helps to take a step back and reflect on some reminders.

Don't panic.

People are facing a lot of hard choices when it comes to what platforms to use, and I know it's pretty tempting to burn everything down. Take a deep breath and think about your options. Nightshade and Glaze aren't perfect, true, but they're open about their limitations and are still tools you can use. Look into alternative word processors beyond Google Docs that won't have AI-scraping. Take your time deciding what to do with your creative output and where to share it. I am Old, and I have seen several social media websites crash and burn. You will always have more options.

Take care of yourself first.

I've seen a lot of people burning themselves out hard over things they can't control. Gaza, anti-LGBTQ issues, American politics, it's a whole lot and it's all overwhelming. You cannot accomplish anything if you don't take the time to put your oxygen mask first. Eat, sleep, turn your phone off when you feel yourself being sucked in. This seems obvious, but it's often the hardest thing to do, believe me I know. You gotta keep yourself going before you can help others.

Small things still matter.

There's a lot of things you can still do even when you feel like you can't. You can sign petitions, you can promote the activism of others. Vote in local elections. Keep yourself informed without drowning - check your news sources once a day rather than all the time. Talk to your friends, spend time with your pets, find ways to help in your local community (a great place to find resources is your library!). Go for a walk with a trash picking tool and a garbage bag. A small difference is still a difference.

Recharge Creatively.

It can be hard to do creative things when you feel like there's so many other important things to do. But being creative - creating art, writing a story, doing a hobby - IS important to yourself and others. Sometimes you have to force yourself to do so - I have to put "watch a movie" on my to do list, or I'll never make time for it. Go to a coffee shop and make art. Play that new video game. Write that silly coffee shop AU. These things are important to you, and they will carry through with what you want to do for others.

Do what you can when you can and you will make it through.

I don't usually tackle cases that are on youtube, but for the sake of investigating whether or not something is ai generated I'll do it.

However, I can't call this ai trash just because they generate art from ai.

The real deciding factor would involve a few things:

Does this channel tell people that some of the pictures are ai generated?

Does this channel credit any images they use online?

Are they using ai to mislead and/or farm content solely for monetization purposes?

Only one way to find out.

Ok, so right out of the gate, we don't see any links to images.

This guy also has a lot of socials.

....And a LinkedIn for some reason.

Let's put a pin on that for now.

What do the videos have to offer?

Ok. So we got an ai voice, an avatar that reeks of content farm garbage, and an image that has not been credited.

We're off to a good start. (in case you couldn't tell, that was sarcastic.)

What they didn't do is crop the url that is above, so we know the art got taken from somewhere.

Luckily, we have Google Lens.

They took that image and did not credit where the image was from.

But, it gets better. IT'S NOT THE ONLY ONE.

There's even some where they even left the artist's signature! Not once, but twice.

And to answer your question, fellow anon, yes. They do use ai generated imagery as well.

This channel is generating images or taking images from the internet for their videos.

No, this is not me hypothesizing. This is what they are actually doing.

I know this because in one video, they use a stock image with the watermark still intact.

But let's take a step back for a mo'. We need to investigate that LinkedIn account.

I have no idea why they have this account here. Like, at all.

LinkedIn is a job hunting website, not TikTok!

The link they have goes back to their Linktree.

Another thing to point out is that they have a Kofi page.

Same difference.

There doesn't seem to be anyone supporting that page.

Looking at this channel some more, this doesn't seem to be a content farm.

It has the stench of one, for sure. But it's also responding to comments.

Feeling like I've hit a dead end, I dropped "Facts by Briggs" on google.

That's when I learned that Facts By Briggs actually has a tumblr page.

....It's just not advertised on the Linktree.

And they have their own tumblr domain.

....wait, tumblr domains cost 22 bucks (18.02 pounds sterling in the UK). Isn't Briggs struggling with financial stuff?

...Something's not adding up.

They reblog posts from a London Hip-Hop DJ and Rapper by the name of CANMKING.

I was going to let this fact pass. But...

Better yet, Can has a total of 6 accounts.

And they reply to all of his stuff.

ongawdclub is the oldest of the alts, going as far back as December 2021, but Can has been on tumblr since 2011.

Yes, Facts by Briggs is a content farm.

Yes, it uses ai art. BUT...

It also uses images off the internet and doesn't credit artists.

Briggs himself is not an original creation, but an avatar that you can easily use on Adobe Express. It's probably how most of the videos were created.

Facts by Briggs has a lot of social media accounts, as seen on their Linktree, including one on LinkedIn and one on a Kofi-like site.

What Facts by Briggs doesn't have on the Linktree is a tumblr. One that has a domain. This goes against what was said in the Kofi, which states that they are struggling with money.

Facts by Briggs reblogs posts by a London hip-hop dj/rapper named CANMKING.

CANMKING replies and reblogs numerous posts by Facts by Briggs, along with five other accounts (reallysmalls, ongawdclub, needgoodgraphics, ctkvi, and rileyfrankcap (A news based content farm). Facts by Briggs also replies to posts made those five accounts. CANMKING is the oldest account out of the total seven, so we assume that the six are sockpuppets that astroturf his tumblr posts.

ctkvi deals with ai video and audio, and needgoodgraphics has a service that, and I'm probably guessing here at the moment, artificially boosts your instagram account by astroturfing it.

TL;DR for the TL;DR:

CANMKING is a rapper/dj from London who uses sock puppets, astroturfing, bots, content farms, and straight up kofi scams to gain success.

...and he made those content farm videos all in Adobe Express.

To prove it, I reverse engineered a Facts by Briggs video.

Mostly.... I know Facts by Briggs uses ai voices... but I don't want to make another account just to access the ai voice add-on. So I used the legendary "Why You Lying?" instead.

I only found one post that talks about CANMKING's scamming efforts, but they've only scratched the surface.

"Don't move" was hyped by Lily Orchard in a couple livestreams, before we ever saw it. She called it this serious work of horror fiction that will eat at your psyche and honestly, had I not known better, I'd think we finally have a contender to Steven King.

What did we get?

Well, we got a tiny little cope post with nothing of substance, disguised as a creative work.

Let's see .. implied incest? Oh, so now it's IMPLIED. Wow, are you growing subtle, Lils?

No you're not.

Yes, the characters are siblings again. Why? Well. It's pretty easy to see. For one, that's all Lily ever wrote in her life. And for Two.. that's just her BITCHING ABOUT COURTNEY AGAIN.

This lines up with both the ages of Lily and Courtney at the time of the alleged assault and with Lily not transitioning yet. Couple that with her whining that Courntey told her nobody would believe her.

But let's get that out of the way. This is a creative work to be judged on its own basis and merits. How does it hold up?

I'll be honest the repetition of the phrase "Don't Move" was pretty intriguing at first glance. But even this one thing lead us to a cliff.

What is this supposed to mean? Is the sister going to assault the guy for just brushing hair out of her face? Overkill, if you ask me. I usually just slap at people's hands when they touch me without consent, but consent is not in consideration for any of your works, so you do you.

Honestly, the entire thing is written with the same mindset an introductory message of a chatbot AI with a kind of narrative would be

The same vignettes of ideas and flashbacks and little bit of set up. The reason that works for them is it just that. An intro, a set up for whatever you're about to do.

THIS is SUPPOSED to be a COMPLETE work. And because of that it's just empty. There's no story. There's no meaning. It's just vagueposting about shit we always knew about Lily. Trying to paint Courtney in a bad light again to seem pitiful.

This is nothing.

It's not creative, it's not art. But at LEAST it's fiction.

Unfortunately, one has to wonder about how badly Lily handles trauma if this were true and is only giving you more reason to believe Courtney, because it's so clear that Lily wrote this with one hand. And I hope to all that is holy that she washed the other one.

half my follow recommendations are AI adopt accounts or people churning out other bot-generated garbage under the guise of “original art”. i hate having to go in and do a pseudo background check for skill development/history and account age for every artist whose work piques my interest. i hate having to guess if the person’s a scam artist or if they just happened to start posting to deviantart because of some other thing like a site collapsing.

🔥 Your favorite video game (or one of them if you have multiple)

Pokémon lost a lot of personality in the characters, designs, and details when it shifted to 3D models over pixel art.

GameFreak has suffered because of this change because the 3D stuff was never really in their development pipeline and expecting this company who often developed for mobile games or made smaller experiences to be able to pick up and run with a new 3D development pipeline was and still is a ridiculous concept.

The vast amount of people in the credits for the Pokémon games don’t work at GameFreak and are actually hired out as contract through other studios (Like Bandai Namco) through Nintendo to actually assist and work more directly on those 3D pipelines.

That said the 3D games are great and most people who trash on them as being “GOD AWFUL GARBAGE” have no idea how hard game dev is and have no concept of the industry struggles.

“Gotta Catch Em All” was easy for Gen 1 and 2, but once 3 and onward happened most folks didn’t give two fucks about catching them all and just focused on their favorites. So the hateful explosion of “FUCK THE DEVS FOR REMOVING POKÉMON” is bullshit and most folks likely never complete a Pokédex anyway even with the smaller dexes.

Everyone who said “Palworld is Pokémon But Better” is an asshole and either doesn’t care or ignores the fact that designs were stolen and the company loves generative Ai.

GameFreak needs to be able to make a game every 3 years instead of every single year/year and a half.

Nintendo should be supporting GameFreak with more side games to support a release schedule for the series instead of pushing for mainline games.

I'm in the early stages of putting together a visual novel, and while I plan to do the character art, I was hoping to avoid doing backgrounds, because they're boring and I hate drawing them. I hopped on itch.io to see what was available, and most of it is AI art. I thought, maybe if I filtered out the free options, I'd have better luck, but no. These people have the audacity to post generated trash and put a price tag on it. I'll at least give some of them credit for stating as much in the descriptions, but a lot try and pass it off as legit work. If I wanted AI art, I'm more than capable of typing my own prompts. This garbage is crowding out the work from actual artists on the site. I'm fucking livid.
