Alaire's birthday had never been something that was celebrated. At least not that he could remember; Memories of being human still very much a haze with the majority of his life spent in the lab. Only within the past few years has it be being celebrated, catching him off guard each time. This year he's been invited to spend time with Eddie. Something he's surprised by but.. actually a bit excited about. Eddie is his favourite person, after all. He's not sure what they have in mind though his expectations aren't high. Alaire is just happy to get to spend time with him.

When they arrive to pick him up, Alaire gets into the vehicle, smiling in greeting. "You're early." It's not a complaint. If anything, Alaire is happy about this. He'd been sitting by the door and waiting in the meantime. Occasionally peaking out the window or well.. more like any time he thought a car that sounded like Eddie's was close by. Was that silly? Probably, but Joyce seemed to find it adorable. "What did you want to do today?" As though it wasn't his own birthday. How silly.

Errol woke with a start, breathing heavy and shaking. He'd been tossing and turning and mumbling in his sleep incomprehensibly, but now that he was awake, he had no idea what he'd been dreaming. He just had a feeling of fear lingering within him as his heart continued to beat out of his chest.

He wasn't alone though, and that brought him some comfort. Alaire was next to him and seemed concerned. He must have helped Errol wake up from the nightmare, whatever it was. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to wake you," Errol mumbled, trying to calm himself. He couldn't seem to shake the fear though.

LAURIE ALAIRE 

I'm visiting the Queen, not my mother. She's furious with me, that much I know. 

AUBREY STUART 

I'm sure she'll understand.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

No, she will not. There are no exceptions.  

AUBREY STUART 

Can't you make one for me, and stay a bit longer? 

LAURIE ALAIRE 

For you, always. 

SCENE CHANGE 

CAMILLE ALAIRE  

You're late.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

Obviously, mother. Should I turn around and leave?  

CAMILLE ALAIRE 

I cannot possibly figure out why your so mad at me, You dug yourself into this hole while you were away.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

You make it sound like I had a choice.  

CAMILLE ALAIRE 

You were clearly not ready, and you still aren't. I honestly thought you would have learned by now.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

It was never my purpose to learn. I wasn't supposed to be in this situation.  

CAMILLE ALAIRE  

You were always meant to learn eventually. And blaming your brother will change nothing. Laurence d’Alaire, You will fulfill your role as Crown Prince. You swore as much to your people and me. Secretary Colette will deliver your schedule.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

But- 

CAMILLE ALAIRE 

You've had three years to sulk and run wild. There will be no more of that, Laurence. As for today, we'll begin with your lessons.  

SCENE CHANGE.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

That's what she told me, and I'm to begin my official duties tomorrow. Effectively throwing me to the wolves. 

CAROLINE ALAIRE 

Ugh, peers are a piece of work.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

Aren't you marrying into them? 

CAROLINE ALAIRE 

I promise he's not the same. You must meet him soon, I can't marry someone who hasn't met my brother.  

LAURIE ALAIRE  

Dorian's met him, hasn't he?  

CAROLINE ALAIRE 

Of course he has, Laurie. He's our brother too. You know he hasn't abandoned us, he just has a life, a family.  

LAURIE ALAIRE 

I’m his family too, yet He abandoned me! He's forgotten me and left me stranded. I can count on one had how many times he's called.  

CAROLINE ALAIRE 

Well have you called him? 

LAURIE ALAIRE

CAROLINE ALAIRE 

Uh huh, Don't abandon each other, ok? You'll both be at my wedding, and I don't want any awkwardness between the two of you.
