The Majoras Mask soundtrack blatantly uses 1 motif in its new tracks and calls it a day. The 4 dungeons are underwhealming. The masks are glorified keys to the next subquest and bloat the item count. It is the first game with Tingle in. MM was rushed and it fucking shows.

MM was the first of its kind, it revolutionized game mechanics and delved into unexplored territory when 3d gameplay was relatively new, it is said that it had even more influence in the industry than oot. The first game that had passage of time that affected the progressive narrative of the characters and that some quests required you to be at the right place at the right time. you could travel to different points of the same territory at the save points which u probably dont remember or werent alive (not ur fault ) but autosave didn’t come until much later and saving your game was an absolute pain (if you even could) this mechanic and some others are used consistently in later loz games. The masks were not only the key to certain places but also gave you the chance to play as other characters, change your abilities, and powers that allowed you to play the same game differently and unique to each person. The music was not only great and recognizable, it harmonized with different instruments that you could play with different masks. Its psychedelic elements, eldritch aesthetics and design are one of a kind and so unique and consisten you can immediately identify its bosses and art when taken out of context. It features some of the most fantastic sidequests and recognizable characters AND it has a truly terrifying villain (mask that uses ppl as puppets and makes the moon fall??? Damn) that makes ganon and ganondorf seem like child-play and you can actually save the kid that was taken hostage by the mask, making it a truly rewarding experience. But sure, call it lazy because they reused many character designs, not that it highlighted the fact that it was set in an alternate dimension or anything.

Majoras Mask is wonderfully unique and special, it revolutionized the way to play games and it sounds as if you are the one that haven’t actually played it 🤷🏽‍♀️ not that its bad but u shouldnt shit on games you learned about from tumblr discourse.

Spiller (he can't even believe this anymore): Are you deaf? You're in my study!

[Abruptly, Psmith leans on the mantlepiece. The effect is enough to silence even Spiller for the moment. Any pretense of not understanding that the study is rightfully Spiller's has dropped. All the signals indicate that Spiller is about to get schooled.

Without anyone noticing, he has picked up the sound system remote on his journey to the mantlepiece. Lifting it slowly, he clicks the button. A tragic instrumental swells from the speakers--tremulous violins, perhaps some broken piano accompaniment.]

Psmith (taking on the somber tone of a voiceover): Ever since this world began, there is nothing sadder than a one-room pupil looking for the study that got away. Too late! That is the bitter cry. If you had gone by the early train, all would have been well. But your family were unwilling to part with you. In vain were your promises that you would Skype them. Your father held your hand and said huskily, 'Edwin, don't leave us!' Your mother clung to you weeping and said, 'Edwin, stay!' Your sisters—

Spiller (stung into speaking again by the fact that he is neither named Edwin nor has any sisters): I want to know what—

Psmith (By this point he is so swept up in his recital that without context you'd think he was genuinely upset by this tragic narrative): Your sisters froze onto your knees like little octopuses--octopi? (He turns to Mike as if expecting an answer to this quandary, then plunges on without waiting for a response, to Mike's relief)—and said, 'Don't go, Edwin!' And so you stayed with them until the late train, and now find strange faces in the familiar room, a people that know not Spiller.

[Bowing his head in artistic defeat, he waits for the crescendo to fade out before lifting the remote again and switching off the music. This done, he leaves the mantlepiece and returns to his chair and his tea, which he sips morosely. ...]

What I’m trying to say here is that I think we managed to anticipate the “this is so sad alexa play despacito” meme approximately four years early.
