A 3 AM thought: Wynne's dynamic with Alistair vs the Warden really is so much crunchier if you're playing Surana/Amell. With the former Templar Wynne is every inch the doting grandmother: she nags him lovingly, she mends his clothes, she fusses over him, he can get basically anything out of her just by acting pathetic until she gives in. She comes across as... for lack of a better word, harmless in a way that's a little uncomfortable when you remember where she grew up. There's an element where I get the sense she's trying to manage Alistair and keep him on her side the way a Circle mage might try to manage a Circle Templar to keep themself safe.

But with the Warden she's very different in a way that doesn't make sense with most Wardens, given that at least on paper they and Alistair hold basically the same position? With the Warden Wynne is harsh, demanding. They have to get everything right, no distractions, no missteps, no fumbles. They can't fall in love, they can't hesitate, they must in short be the fairytale, knight in shining armour image of a "perfect" Grey Warden. Which... y'know, isn't how the Wardens work? But if you're playing Surana/Amell and looking at their conversations with Wynne through the lens of a senior Circle mage speaking to a much younger and less experienced Circle mage... that's basically the advice that that senior mage would give in the Circle. If you want to live, be perfect. You can't slip, you can't fall in love, you must be the very best you can be to the point of inhumanity (for lack of a better term in a setting where not everyone's human) because anything less is unforgivable. No one wants you to be a person, just a tool; that's a feeling that I think both mages and Wardens would understand. The way Wynne treats the Warden makes the most sense with Surana/Amell by a mile, because she is in a way treating the whole situation like being in the Circle!

camellia trevelyan (i might change her name... she's also very new so take everything i say about her with a grain of salt)

thank u for asking omg !!!! i have 3 worldstates loosely planned out which is a Lot for me since i have a tendency to get deeply (perhaps pathologically) attached to one worldstate and one pc lol. but im being brave abt it !

worldstate 1 is my canon worldstate, and the overarching theme for it is self-mythology/loss of personhood. i wont go into detail since i yap enough abt them already lol but i have elspeth (warrior f!cousland romancing alistair) cillian (a rogue m!hawke romancing anders) and ashara (a mage f!lavellan romancing/redeeming solas) all going into datv head first. my canon datv pc will likely be an elven archer f!rook romancing either davrin or taash hehe <3

second worldstate is all mages and obv thats the main theme i wanna have fun with

lucander amell (he/him, blood mage and spirit healer, romances morrigan) unassuming, distant, and polite and also kind of unnerving. used to being seen as a bad guy and is willing to act accordingly, but otherwise is a pretty decent, honorable man. does morrigan's ritual, kills the archdemon, leaves alistair a grey warden. doesn't become warden commander in awakening bc he goes into hiding from the wardens before they can ask too many questions abt the ritual and why hes still alive. he tracks down morrigan in the hopes of protecting her, and then stays with her and their son after that.

cecilia hawke (she/her, spirit healer mage, romances fenris) a blue!hawke who's sweet and motherly and soft spoken and has an enormous guilt complex/self hate for being a mage lol. carver joins the templars, and she later sides with them in act 3 and kills anders which </3 anyways. she survives here lies the abyss in dai and hopefully goes on to attend biweekly couples therapy with fenris <3

thomasin trevelyan (SOFTEST of launches on that name) (she/her, knight enchanter mage, romances cullen. maybe.) socially adept, politically cunning, with a love for the game and a desire to regain her place within the trevelyan family nobility. sides with the mages, doesn't drink from the well, negotiates a truce between celene/gaspard/briala, pardons the wardens, redeems solas, disbands the inquisition post trespasser. shes a good girl and she's got her head on straight!

might do a qunari f!rook mage to romance taash or davrin for datv! we'll see !

lastly my third worldstate places value on the eluvians so its very elfy or at least elf-adjacent. and also the lineage of ameridan > garahel > maherial and so on. i just think its neat . still VERY much underdeveloped tho so no names yet

Juliet Fairchild (Kristine Froseth). Plays any period role. She's expressive, usually wealthy, and kinda spoiled. She means well, though.

Sara Sarrarel (Poppy Drayton). Plays princesses, village girls, any medieval/fantasy role tbh. I have her as more of a medieval character. She's stubborn and annoying <3

Reyna Rusnak (Millie Brady). She plays commoners, usually in a fantasy setting. She's better for darker themes just based on vibes alone. Works well in medieval settings. Her personality is pretty verse-dependent. I have her as being loyal, scrappy, and a little mysterious

Fiona Campbell (Sophie Skelton). She plays commoners, sex-workers, down-on-her luck characters. She could also probably be a noblewoman. She's my newest character so I'm still figuring her out. I think she's kinda jaded for some reason.

Men <3

Buck Birch (Tom Blyth). He is only in Western verse threads. He's usually an outlaw, but he could work as a common man, too. He's my most verse-specific character. He's charming, sly, and dangerous.

Shi Bolin. (Dylan Wang). He is good for bodyguards/knights/protectors. He could also be a weird, angsy prince. He's not the most friendly but he'll protect your character.

Remy Longfellow (Adrain Enscoe). He's good for regency/bridgerton things. He's your basic soft boy who's a little dumb <3

Alistair Brown (Thomas Brodie-Sangster). I usually play him as a tavern-owner. He can also be in Bridgerton type threads. He's hard-working, sarcastic, and a good man.

Benjamin Isakson (Jack Wolfe). He is usually only put in vampire threads tbh. He is good for fantasy/supernatural threads. He's naive, bookish, and he likes to study the supernatural. He is my personal baby.

James Parker (Harry Gilby). Usually more medieval threads. He's good as bodyguards or a loyal soilder. He wants to prove himself to his superior. He's just a young man that has to face a lot of darkness, I feel.

Alaric Blackwell (Freddy Carter). He works well in supernatural/fantasy threads. He can play a vampire hunter. He's a con-man and cannot be trusted.

i know it’s 2023 but i have a lot of Thoughts™ on demon!dean and since this is my corner of the internet and i can talk about whatever i goddamn like we’re gonna talk about how they squandered the deanmon potential—yes i know this was back in 2015 what’s your point misha had to come out as straight last year this train is never stopping

cause like, i remember all the promo spots being off the shits like ‘THIS…IS THE YEAR…OF THE DEANMON!!!!’

and i was psyched, and then it turned out to be like, 3 episodes. and he just sang terrible karaoke. the worst thing he did was try to grope a woman—which, obviously, is a shitty thing to do, but isn’t on the same level as like, torturing her to death

it just—it could’ve been so damn cool. imagine, like, castiel trying to reason with him, and since angels see demons as they truly are, not who they’re wearing (also: was deanmon possessing his own corpse? could he have possessed another human? i haven’t rewatched since it aired but like… did they ever clarify that??) he can see like this mutilated thing that he knows is his friend, but it’s almost beyond recognition

and deanmon is basically a soulless human, functionally, because he doesn’t care about anything or anyone except himself and what he wants, and these two guys with their ‘i know you’re in there somewhere’ and ‘this isn’t the real you’ crap are really getting on his nerves, so he’s coming out with stuff like how, it was forty years in hell, therefore alistair knew him longer than sam or cas, alistair made him into what he is now, and he’s so grateful bc he’s no longer snivelling over every insignificant dead human they come across. humans are so pathetically fragile after all, why bother trying to save them?

just IMAGINE the potential—the futility of cas raising him from perdition! because this was always who he was meant to become, what he was going to be, and cas was just delaying the inevitable—because dean’s whole life has been authority figures forging him into their weapon. all cas was trying to do was swap out one blacksmith for another

and yeah i know they needed to wrap up the deanmon thing sharpish because of the 300th episode but like… they could’ve made 300 a flashback. like a fun-ish job the boys did years prior, and at the end of the episode sam suddenly wakes up because he was dreaming of that hunt and in remembering it he’s had a ~breakthrough~ on how to help dean—and THAT’S how he knows where to look and finds out about the blood injection nonsense

(i still cannot believe it was THAT SIMPLE to cure someone of being a demon. and that dean was also allegedly a knight of hell or some bullshit)

like we could’ve had a solid half-a-season of deanmon, we get to see the full range of what he was actually capable of. he still blows off crowley, obviously, because he doesn’t need to be babysat, he doesn’t need someone to line up a murder-y demon deal for him like he’s on an enrichment program at the zoo

sam hasn’t seen him in several episodes, he’s still trying to figure out how to get dean back, if he can get dean back, and he’s doing hunts in between because he feels morally obligated to, or he needs money, or he’s doing it for someone in return for info on the dean thing—whatever

dean rocks up to where sam’s working on a job, and at first you just think he’s there to piss sam off and generally fuck around, and sam just can’t look at him and can’t be near him cause it’s so obviously not his brother and he doesn’t want to risk dean realising he’s searching for a fix, because he genuinely, deeply fears that this thing with his brother’s face will try to kill him.

but dean’s going around telling everyone that sam’s his brother and forcing sam to play nice because they’re in front of people, and dean makes very clear what will happen if sam doesn’t play nice and doesn’t let dean do as he likes—and sam’s just disgusted and uneasy

and once sam finishes the job—having bonded slightly with whoever was being attacked—he tells dean to leave him the hell alone, and leaves the town. and dean stays behind, seemingly honouring his brother’s wishes—is there hope?

but that night‚ dean goes to the house of whoever sam helped on the hunt. maybe it’s a cute suburban family‚ maybe it’s a college girl whose friend was killed, but he knocks on the door and says he’s dean and he’s sam’s brother and they’re estranged and he doesn’t know where sam went—could she help him? so she invites him in‚ because sam is the kind guy who just saved her life, and his brother is just as charming and handsome and seems like a nice dude, and the last thing we see is dean (from behind) as he enters‚ and he’s holding the first blade behind his back and the door just slowly swings shut. cut to black.

and later—maybe not next episode‚ maybe the viewers are left to stew for a bit—dean calls sam and tells him what he did. that the people sam risked his life to save are dead. sam ended up not making a difference at all. and the most fucked up part is that he sounds exactly like regular dean as he says all this—using the same slang and chirpy tone like he’s talking about music. and in that same cheerful tone, he warns sam not to try ordering him around ever again.

hilda is very very competitive and very very spiteful. there are several knights in castle cousland who she has had long and storied prank wars with and she will go to EXTREME lengths to get vengeance on people and take it wayyyy to seriously. this girl was 15 praying to fantasy jesus and then going to her room and wondering the ethics of putting rat droppings on a soldier's dinner plate. (she did not. she spent 2 nights considering it.) she tries very hard to keep it under wraps when she gets older, but she is a very poor sport whenever the wardens in the vigil want to play fun card games. she's absolutely the type to play rematch after rematch until she wins even if it means staying awake until sun up <3

she is quite loud. she has never ever wanted to make herself feel like she can't be expressive or be herself because being yourself is how people in history get shit done for better or for worse!!! so she's like nah i'm gonna be loud if i wanna be loud. i mean she doesn't SCREAM but if she wants to talk loud she will talk loud. she does have a pretty deep voice though. a smooth "fereldan" (see: british) accent. goes a little lower when she's eepy sleepy. i do not have a voice claim but i should look for one!

👑 CROWN - what does your oc want to be remembered as? why?

she just wants to be loved. mostly loved. the most important thing is that people know she was/is a good person who tried her absolute hardest at everything and put her heart into all the things she did. i mean she'd also like to be remembered as someone who was super hot and beautiful but the good person thing is most important. i'd also say that she'd love to be remembered as someone who inspired others

🔥 FIRE - do they have any self destructive tendencies? what habits do they have that hinder them from becoming their best self?

i don't think so? she takes quite good care of herself and doesn't self destruct because she likes to always be on the ball about everything. i'd say she tends to mope about stuff as opposed to putting her mind off of it SOMETIMES but that's only in her teenage years, and she gets better at getting up and doing stuff even when she's sad

☄️ COMET - what do people assume about them? are they right?

they assume that she finds almost everything funny because she laughs a lot and it's true that she does find a lot of things funny but she also just has a lot of energy when she's having a good conversation with someone and even if something isn't necessarily funny she'll still laugh just out of Enjoyment and Appreciation. i'm sure because she's fat that people also assume that she likes to eat and that is very true. she loves sweets. she could smash a tray of orlesian pastries and not even feel bad about it

💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticable? what changes when they're in love?

ABSOLUTELY noticeable! she is a huge flirt and also dolls herself up when she has a crush and tries reaaaally hard to impress them or make an impression otherwise. usually she just has little schoolgirl crushes for a bit and then gets the ick super fast LMAOOOO but when she's in love like with alistair, her flirting becomes more... intimate and sweet and she tries to be more vulnerable to see if they're a good long-term partner. she is testing the waters right away and never even considers/cares that the other person might not like her until they say something lol. pushy stubborn legend <3

I finished my first Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough a couple days ago, so now it's time to talk about it, because I keep meaning to generally talk about my characters more and then I don't do that. So I'm doing it.

Things will get spoilery after the first couple of screenshots.

Yezka'al started as a githyanki fighter (who would become an eldritch knight) from a noble background. It's a little unclear in this game/5E context what noble means for githyanki, but certainly what it meant for Yezka'al was that they did not want to be bossed around by Lae'zel and butted heads with her a lot to begin with. I figure they got snatched by the nautiloid while on their first mind-flayer hunt.

Although, since you do get this line about calling Tu'narath your home, maybe my original interpretation of coming from a noble background as being one of the githyanki who lives in Tu'narath works still?

Anyway, Yezka'al made a lot of bad choices to begin with, because they didn't understand the prime or the people on it and also they were just extremely laser-focused on getting the tadpole out whatever way would work and getting back to killing a mind-flayer.

Not understanding that people don't usually like it when you just up and kill someone, even if that person was a bad person, led to everyone except Zevlor being dead in Emerald Grove, and that... kind of set the tone for things. People kept ending up dead where they went. They realized this was a problem eventually and were better about it after making the truly bad choice of letting Isobel get kidnapped for no real reason (since they, y'know, didn't actually try infiltration at any other point).

But generally their character arc went from this:

Honestly, I've never successfully played a character who went the self-sacrificing route before (the closest I came was one DA:O character who was all set up to do it but I knew by then that Alistair would just jump in her stead anyway), so that was new. Also tough. But the whole point of freeing Orpheus was so that he could overthrow the Lich Queen and free the githyanki, and how would he do that as an illithid? It turned out to be a satisfying if not completely good ending for Yezka'al.

(Apparently there's a third option if you have Karlach in your party, but unfortunately Yezka'al kind of cut her head off and turned it in for a cool sword, so they didn't have that option.)

People could be forgiven for assuming Yezka'al's hair was red because they were basically always covered in blood whenever they weren't in camp.

As for how the various companions fared (not including anyone I failed to even encounter):

Astarion: Yezka'al mostly took him around because they wanted to be able to get through locked doors and open chests, and also kept getting blown up by traps. They did not get along. Still, they figured maybe if he got a lot of power by becoming a Vampire Ascendant he'd be useful in stopping the Lich Queen and all that, but then he went full villain, so they killed him. RIP.

Gale: Generally just kind of existed? Yezka'al didn't do much with him, beyond pulling him out of a portal. They did say he could have the Crown of Karsus though, because that seemed way better than giving it to Raphael, which they went through a lot of trouble to not actually have to do.

Halsin: He said he'd meet Yezka'al at the camp but also it's fair that he didn't because he probably found out that they killed the entire rest of his druid circle and that's gotta be a bummer. (This also might have been a bug. I don't know, but it made sense.)

Jaheira: That little incident with letting Isobel get kidnapped caused the doom of absolutely everyone in the Last Light Inn except for Yezka'al and companions, and that included Jaheira. RIP.

Karlach: Wyll wanted to kill her, Yezka'al was offered a cool sword to do it, they did it. Then Wyll got all uncertain about it and they got annoyed. RIP.

Lae'zel: Became best friends and fellow rebels, after the intial "who's the better githyanki warrior who's actually destined for greatness" rivalry faded.

Minthara: Killed while generally rampaging through the goblin area, but I suspect that's pretty common. RIP?

Shadowheart: Despite the fact that Yezka'al's initial reaction to her was basically that they just did not care, she clearly took this as support, and eventually the two actually did end up getting along well. She became a cleric of Selune. (Yezka'al didn't care about killing the Nightsong or not, and just let her make the choice. They'd have been cool with the other way, too.)

Wyll: Kind of got left in camp for almost the whole game and just had bad things happen to him and around him, because Yezka'al just didn't much get along with him, and even after they killed Astarion Gale seemed more useful.

There was no explicit option to tell people "look, I'm going to become a mind-flayer to get this thing done, but once we've accomplished our goals kill me", but I figure they probably did tell Lae'zel that while coming to their decision and that's how it'll happen after the hopefully-successful rebellion. (I mean, if it's not successful, they'll probably be dead anyway.)

On that cheerful note, I'm on to my next playthrough!

This is Vethryn. He woke up with a really bad headache and can't remember anything but his name, and he has an urge to kill, but he's dressed as a paladin and has a book about paladin oaths, so that means he probably is one, right? Surely he would have been a good person and he just can't remember it? Yeah, that adds up.

He's probably actually going to end up killing less people and doing more miscellaneous quests than Yezka'al did, honestly, despite that little occasional murder problem... so that'll be interesting.

Lanil (Surana) Lavellan: My girl. My Bae. My scrumpdiddlyumptious. Her name has zero meaning. Literally played around with letters and vowels until something cool happened. However, she has nicknames! 'Lane' is just short for Lanil, easypeasy. Varric calls her 'Shortie', which annoys the shit out of her. She knows she's short, she's FINE with it (she's not fine with it), but the GALL of this dwarf to call her short!! 🤣 Her nickname from the Chargers in my FIIF AU is 'Brusier', because she's a teenytiny ball of RAGE. Krem made a joke about her being a 'bruiser', and the nickname stuck.

Aleandria Cousland-Theirin: Okay, so this has a story. My irl name is Alexandria Denys, and I currently live in China. Their automated systems, like banks and hospitals, etc, HATE long foreign names. It's a pain in the butt to do anything officially. I went to a local public hospital once and I don't know if it was the computer or the person using the keyboard, but SOMETHING lost its gotdang mind and input my name, and printed my official papers, as "Aleandriad" and I lost it laughing. My first thought was: "This would be a great D&D name!" Eventually, I started playing DAO and my first character was a Cousland. I thought Aleandriad Cousland was a bit much, so I dropped the 'd' and there we go. So, in a roundabout way, her name means "Defender of Mankind". Her nickname is 'Andry' (because Alistair's nickname is Ali, lol).

MY ORIGINAL NOVEL OCs:

Hamasa: Hamasa is a fire dragon who can shapeshift. His current form is, of course, a human looking young man (for reasons!). He has many names depending on who is talking about him. The Imperial Court calls him: 'Kana'iro' which comes from the words "aka + kin'iro" or "the red golden". His adoptive-sister calls him 'Masaki', and his new bestie, Marya, calls him 'Hamito'. Sometimes, he's also called 'Masa'.

Marya Garsia: Marya is this world's version of "Maria", basically. A simple classic name for a farmer's daughter and for our 2nd MC. Her nickname is usually 'Marrita', though if Hamasa ever felt comfortable enough, he'd call her 'Mariki'.🥺

Emerens Valerius: Valerius is the third/final MC (the main cast is larger, but these 3 get POVs in the two novels thus far). Marya calls him 'Wally', because she's irreverent and knows it'll annoy him. (He goes by Valerius, which is pronounced "Wah-lair-ree-us".) When he was young, he was called 'Emmeki', but very few even know his first name now. In his squad of knights, he was called 'Kaecus', which was a shitty, rude, and ableist nickname meaning "Blind One", because he has very obvious faceblindness.

She is a deeply reserved and quiet individual, keeping her feelings and thoughts close to her chest, and cautious to a fault. But underneath that is someone with deep feeling and passion, an incredibly warm and loving person who is desperately lonely and just wants to find someone who won't leave her, as every person who she has loved has done in the past. She romances Daeran Arendae and they both work through their shit together <3

The Wayhaven Chronicles

The newest OC is technically still cooking, but he's my latest detective in the IF The Wayhaven Chronicles! His name is Bastian Roche, a nervy little man who would just like everyone to get along, please, and who has a tendency to fail upwards, much to his chagrin. He loves his little town and loves his mama, and is very upset at the recent murders going on and then the supernatural bullshit that ends up crawling out of the woodwork as a consequence.

He's gonna romance Felix and I'm pretty sure is going to be the only detective I've played who doesn't become friends with Adam or Mason by the end of book 2 because he has a spine made of wet tissue paper.

Dragon Age: Origins

I might have had older OCs but I don't remember them--the one that still exists in any form would be Dannia Tabris, my canon warden in DAO. She's a daggers rogue, duelist and assassin specialties.

She's the first real Specialist Little Snowflake I ever made, but like in the worst way--I made her as I played the game and headcanoned that while not a mage, she was born a little "closer" to the Fade than others, and because of that she can see the future. This was to accommodate the fact that I always had a game guide open because I hadn't learned that you can't really play an RPG wrong by that point.

Dannia puts up a good front and tends to present herself as funny, warm, and cavalier in front of friends and family, but inside she's a melancholic, vicious, calculating person who is desperate to ensure the safety of people she loves by relying on her frequent visions for guidance.

She lost her mother by ignoring her visions and she refuses to lose anyone else, so of course in the process she does lose everyone--she becomes a Warden and is permanently separated from her family, a vision showing Alistair's execution makes her put him on the throne which he does not want and which ultimately causes the end of their relationship, and she sabotages basically all of her friendships and relationships in general because she sees visions of herself dying to slay the Archdemon.

Then Morrigan comes along, offers the Dark Ritual, and she takes it out of blind hope...and survives. And has to try and live on past her own self-imposed expiration date, now knowing her visions can be false and that her sacrifices up to this point might have been for nothing.

Meanest

I don't really do mean OCs honestly lol. But I'd have to say that the one who is most willing to say mean shit is going to be Kallesto "Vonzi" Voness, my mercenary OC for PWOTR!

Vonzi is an oracle whose patron has given her powers over extreme cold--and, more significantly, powers over time. Vonzi has the ability to time travel, but with a major caveat: jumping back in time forces her to "hold on" to the timeline she creates by changing things, something that takes her very life force. She can either let go, undoing the changes she has made, or die in that time, cementing it as the new reality.

In-game, her main quests revolve around the fact that she is suffering from going back in time to save her family. The KC must either let her die, convince her to let go of the timeline and allow her family to die again, or a Secret Third Thing.

Despite all the shit she goes through, Vonzi is a very confident, very cavalier person. She does not suffer fools lightly and isn't afraid to speak her mind even if it means rocking the boat, and she will tell people what she thinks of them regardless of how unflattering it is. If she likes you, she might be more circumspect, but especially in game she doesn't have the time or energy to be nice. Despite her being a genuinely good person and good friend she puts a lot of people off wit her abrasive attitude.

Dragon Age Inquisition

Softest OC would have to be Phaedre Lavellan, my canon inquisitor from DAI! Phi is a mage, though not a very well-trained one; when she tells people she was the clan's first, she's lying.

Phaedre like so many other OCs suffered tragedy when she was younger, with her childhood friend and intended--the clan's First at the time--dying to maleficar when Phi, desperate to prove she was grown up enough for vallaslin, goes out on the honorary hunt to earn it and gets in way over her head. The event deeply traumatized her, as it was her fault Ghandriel was out there to begin with. It causes her to retreat from any and all responsibility. Her clan enables this, as she's always been seen as a bit of a baby, and the tragedy causes them to close ranks in an effort to protect her. By 9:40 Dragon, Phaedre is 25 years old and has still not gotten her vallaslin.

News of the Conclave and the spies clan Lavellan plans to send is the last jolt needed from a long-growing feeling of guilt and stasis Phaedre has been in. Sneaking away ahead of the actual spies, Phaedre gets sloppy fake vallaslin from a city elf and joins the Conclave in an effort to prove to herself that she can be useful to her clan and an adult in her own right. And then the Conclave explodes and suddenly she needs to grow up real fast.

Phaedre tends to try to be bubbly and optimistic. She's a little naive but tends to appear even more so because her conflict-averse nature makes her avoid giving out her opinions on anything, which makes it seem like she just doesn't know a whole lot. She's deeply empathetic and emotional, laughs when she's nervous, and wants everyone to be her friend--and it's hard not to be, even when she starts gaining confidence and making decisions that cause disapproval. Phaedre romances Sera.

Most aloof/standoffish

Another non-KC OC, Ophenia Thwait, is going to fit this bill! She's a dhampir that's going to enter her second century soon, and she lost everyone she ever cared about already, including her entire family and her first wife, who she loved more than anything. She wrote books with them as characters to deal with her grief, those books took off, and she spent the next several decades establishing herself as a varied and talented author in several genres. She's currently made a name for herself writing pulp novels of the romance and adventure variety, earning her wild fame and derision in equal measure.

Ophenia keeps all of life at arm's length, looking at it with the clinical mind of a writer that's trying to put together a plot for her next story--because she is. Any character read in an Ophenia Thwait book is based on someone she has met. She considers it the greatest compliment to write using another person, immortalizing them in a story while they age and wither and die. They will at least live forever in her books and the minds of those who read them, but it gives her a tendency to think of people as little more than props for a story that's brewing in her mind, and she will do awful things on purpose just to see what the reaction ends up being or what the consequences are. Gotta get more inspiration, and keep her stories interesting.

Dumbest

Dumbest OC award has to go to Evaethi Arvanxi, Sparrow's "original copy"--the young woman she acted as a body double for! Evaethi means well, mostly, but has learned through a painful childhood that the only real thing she's good at is horses and, later, fighting on them. She fled her noble life of luxury and duty the first real chance she gets, leaving the far more impressive and competent (in her eyes) Sparrow to deal with the aftermath, and joins the Pathfinders, where she will hopefully get some wakeup calls about the way she lives her life. No matter what though, she will never gain the common sense that god gave a goldfish.

Smartest

Isore "Crow" Cygnarus, Sparrow's biological brother who maybe-probably dies in her canon when she was young. I can't even describe how smart he is because "waaaay smarter than me" is about as good as I can get, but he was a savant, a child genius who excelled in mathematics and engineering, who rose to prominence at an astonishingly young age in Alkenstar as an architect and artificer.

He had a lot of ideas, many of which he hoped to spread and see implemented throughout the world--ideas about how society should be run to ensure as little waste, pain, and chaos would be generated, ways that he felt the ills of the world could truly be solved. But before he could do any of that, he had his younger sister with him, who needed to be raised, and he recognized that wandering the world and focusing on your own ambitions was insufficient for rearing a young child. So he settled in the idyllic country of Dehrukani, helping them improve their crystal towers and develop new and interesting ways to store magical energy, and waited for her to grow up right to the point where he is murdered by slavers.

Crow's personality was whatever he needed it to be to get the most out of the people around him--Sparrow remembers him as a kind, patient, perfect older brother, because that's the mask he put on around her. In reality, he was an extremely distant, cold, and ambitious individual. His brilliance came from his natural ability to see things broken down into parts working together as systems, and ultimately that's how he saw people--as parts within the system of society. The closest he ever came to love was the mix of responsibility and interest he had in his little sister.

OC you’d be best friends with IRL

I feel like I would be intimidated by most of my OCs lol. I think I'd get along with Evaethi but would find her self-absorbed nature incredibly grating and honestly she'd be tiring to be around.

The person I'd be best friends with is Vonzi! I'd find her funny and her confidence inspiring.
