Alright, Chanukah starts tonight, which means it's time for me to finally make a post about different kinds of menorahs.
This right here? This is the Temple Menorah:
Tumblr media
There's some debate over whether the branches were straight or curved, but here's a few things we do know:
It had seven branches of equal length.
It was made of one solid piece of gold
It was at least five feet tall.
It used pure olive oil.
The Temple Menorah is what people mean when they talk about The Menorah. It's what you'll see on historical or commemorative artifacts such as the Arch of Titus in Rome or Israeli currency:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the time when the Temple stood in Jerusalem, the High Priest lit all seven flames on this Menorah every day (using the aforementioned pure olive oil):
Tumblr media
No one lights this on Chanukah.
This is a Chanukah menorah:
Tumblr media
There are countless variations, but here are the important things:
It has eight branches of equal length, plus a ninth "helper" branch, known as the shamash, which is set apart from the rest of the branches and used to light the others.
It can be made of any material.
It is usually used with wax candles or oil, but, if necessary, one can use anything that burns.
In Hebrew, this kind of menorah is called a chanukiah.
Some Chanukah menorahs, like the one shown above, have the shamash in the middle. Others have it on the side:
Tumblr media
Regardless, this kind of menorah is the one that has been lit by Jews on Chanukah for thousands of years. It's the menorah you'll seen in photographs of Jewish households, including this famous picture taken in Germany in 1931:
Tumblr media
(The message written on the back of the photo reads: "Death to Judah"/ So the flag says/ "Judah will live forever"/ So the light answers)
On Chanukah, whoever is lighting the menorah will first light the shamash, then the number of candles corresponding to whichever night of Chanukah it is. The first night, only the rightmost candle is lit, the second night the two rightmost, etc. (The newest candle is always lit first):
Tumblr media
Again, a valid Chanukah menorah has eight branches of equal length, along with a shamash. There is no such thing as a Chanukah menorah with six branches of equal length and a longer seventh branch, and no valid Chanukah menorah has eight branches of completely different lengths.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you see either of the above designs (or anything similar) on Chanukah-themed decor, it tells you the creator has absolutely no idea what they're doing and couldn't be bothered to do more than two seconds of research to make sure their product was accurate. Anyone who knows anything about the holiday will laugh at these. (They may buy them anyway, especially if that's all that's available-- my new Chanukah sweater has an invalid menorah pattern, but it's adorable, so I'm still going to wear it. But I am also laughing about it and invite you all to do the same.)
Anyway, have a happy Chanukah, everyone!

Yandere thought of the day:
The fact that yandere dad-Ghost and Uncle Soap are such a power couple; especially working to keep you in line as a teenager is literally insane.
Rarely do they give you alone time, especially Uncle Johnny. Ghost, your dad, suffers the consequences of letting Soap spoil you, him buying you too many onesies and books to keep you occupied – to which, he whines when you don't wanna spend time with him.
If he could, he'd hand-feed you. But with your stubbornness, he's all "fine, guess you hate me then :(("
the WORST helicopter parents. Always use any kind of excuse as looking out for you, especially the 'family time' card. They force you on the couch, turn on looney tunes (or whatever they/or you feel like) and make delicious popcorn with M&Ms
They force you to do cuddles. Sharing the side of your bed, especially when they come home from a long mission. A chore list on your door. No electronics past 6pm. Participate in family dinners every night. Forbidden to leave without making sure you kiss them and give them the tightest hugs, a promise of you'll be back before 7pm.
Dad Ghost is unpredictable and unyielding. He's strict. Keeps you in line, making sure you know everything as he's not your friend. He's your dad. Demands you to do as you are told, even though he wants you to come to him when something is wrong. And yes, he does get a bit pissy when you cuss in front of him.
Uncle Soap is less severe. More confessing to cuddles when you break rules. Builds a whole different relationship with you, and uses his 'safe act' as a way to shield you from Simon's harsh punishments. But in reality, he's just using it as an excuse to 'us against him' to keep you to himself for a bit longer.
Though, don't think you can use him to get out of punishments. Normally, he agrees with Simon. Your dad, and parents know best, no?

Why I can't seem to finish the Six of Crows Duology
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you don't want spoilers look away - even just little ones
Six of Crows is one of those books I adore so so much but that I have a hard time continuing because of the ending - it's so impactful and jarring at times that every time I go, I need a mini break between books and then it's been two years so you reread the first one and guess what? the same thing happens. I love the book don't get me wrong, and I have solid knowledge I will love the second one but it just hasn't happened.
If you have tips leave them below and then to leave you with a question, Have you read Six of Crows? what about Crooked Kingdom?

When Bucky knocked on your door, he expected you to tell him to fuck off. To leave you alone. He'd been prepared to try and convince you to just let him say what he wanted to say, to pour his heart out to you - maybe you'll listen this time, give him a second chance.
But when that door opened and you peaked through, the words died on his tongue.
You looked like death.
You looked so tired, your hair a wreck, pajama bottoms hanging from your hips and, wait -
"Is that my shirt?" He asked, pointing to it, the logo of the club staring back at him.
You rolled your eyes, leaning against the door frame with a heavy sigh, "What do you want?" Your voice was nasally and you sounded congested and he dropped his hand.
"Are you sick?" He asked.
"That obvious, huh?" You countered, the attitude from just a moment ago slipping away.
"Do you have someone to take care of you?"
You crossed your arms over your chest, "I don't need anyone to take care of me."
He put his hands on his hips, "That wasn't what I asked, was it?"
"I'm fine, Buck, I don't need someone to take care of me."
He refused to move from his spot on your porch, waiting for you to give in and let him help. You knew him well enough to know that he'd wait out there all night if he had to - he'd done it before.
You sighed, dropping your arms and letting them swing at your sides as you turned to walk back in the house.
"Come on then!" You called from down the hall and he scurried to follow you, shutting and locking the door behind him.
He spent the afternoon making you soup and making sure you were staying hydrated while you watched movies on the couch. He called Steve and told him that anything dealing with the club was on him unless it was an emergency. He wasn't to be disturbed or contacted unless absolutely necessary.
He bundled you up in your softest blanket on the couch after you ate, bringing you ginger tea with lemon and honey in it - something his mother taught him when he used to take care of Steve.
When you were finally relaxed and settled with your head in his lap, he finally asked again, "Are you wearing my shirt?" It was whispered as to not bother you if you'd dozed off, but your soft voice filled the air as you replied.
"Yeah, you, um," You cleared the gunk from your throat, "You left it here the other day and I just kinda threw it on this morning while I was half awake and sneezing my brains out." You moved to sit up, "I can go change though, and you can have it back."
His hold tightened on you, keeping you from sitting up, "No, you keep it." He looked down at you, your head turned so you could see his face, "It looks better on you anyway."
You smirked, "You know this doesn't mean you're off the hook right?"
He huffed out a laugh and nodded, "Yeah I know, but that can wait till you feel better, yeah?"
"Yeah," you turned your face back to the tv, "It can wait."
Maybe that second chance was more possible than he thought.

I've been rewatching The Dragon Prince from the beginning, and one thing I've really been paying attention to is Viren's choices and mistakes and how they lead to his eventual downfall.
A big one is the "secret missions" he gives to his children when he sends them out to find the princes: Soren is told to "take care of" the princes, and Claudia is tasked with recovering the egg at all costs.
This is a huge mistake.
On the surface level, it makes sense. The jobs given fit the skillsets of the children he gives them to: to the warrior, he gives the role that might require physical violence, while he sends the mage to get the magical object.
But it fails to take into account who Soren and Claudia really are.
Between the two siblings, Soren is the one with the moral compass. It doesn't always point true north, but it's pretty solid where it counts. Killing innocent children-- killing his friends-- is something he can't do. His conscience won't let him.
Claudia, on the other hand, prioritizes her family above everything else. Choosing the egg over Soren-- picking magic over blood-- isn't a choice she could ever make and live with herself afterwards.
These missions were always doomed to fail.
If Viren had switched the assignments, they would likely have suceeded. If he'd told Claudia that the princes actually coming home would put their family's future at risk, the boys never would have survived. If he'd warned Soren of a powerful weapon that couldn't be allowed to fall into enemy hands, the soldier in Soren would have done whatever he could to bring it back, no matter what he had to give up along the way.
Viren's mistake was that he fundamentally misunderstood his children's true natures.
He knew what they were, but not who they were. And that's why he failed.

— Important message
Tumblr media
Hi everyone :).
I am posting this for my own safety seeing as this mentioned harasser has gone out of their way to interact with myself, including @luvit and many other dark-fanfiction writers within this fandom.
There also may be more included, which is why I personally have decided to type out a post of my own.
TW: talks about slight discourse on this subject.
Edit: 2/29/2024: I'm on now BREAK. I will not be responding to any messages, asks, or submissions until the 5th.
Tumblr media
This person, who originally was named @/bastardsloane (now casual-homosexual-enthusiast), would copy and paste fics and edit them in a way so it’s not "boring" to them.
They also harassed others for not finishing requests; not using the correct pronouns, or stating that the reader uses female anatomy and has gone out of their way to make alt accounts to harass me and others. Furthermore, they will pose as a new follower and interact with me and others to gain attention/validation.
The intention of this post is so that it can be known that they typically have posts regarding Price from COD (Aka: Berry Sloane), any/or male pronouns and MDNI, as well as having the Palestine flag in their bio. They immediately interact, reblog or comment on posts that we have posted.
This is not a post to spread hate — rather a word of caution in case this person has harassed you as well. @luvit, once posting the draft, will have a deeper explanation on why this person is someone you should not associate with.
As of now, I have decided that, a) I will be taking a break. And b) I have contacted Tumblr about this, and I hope to get an email back soon.
In the meantime, I will still be active, but not posting or writing anything relating to the fandoms that I love. My inbox and DMs are open for any messages.
