#and now to take a big sip of ''nothing suggests lackadaisy ft. people stuck / things repeating / death begetting death''#not like i suppose we're going to be hit with ''& then mordecai and viktor sat down at the defiance field office for every passing gangster#played chess and then went and properly slaughtered the lackadaisy crew and arbogasts at the funeral home / barn w/car-sized holes''#good reminder though that Viktor Is Now Active....left off with elsa managing to give him a phonecall; for good measure#lackadaisy#i have no lengthy Mitzi Mordecai Murder Mystery Musings posts for today (b/c not enough fresh musing insights) but no prommies#epiphanies are on their own schedule#quite the chess piece arrangement seen there too lol. can't tell if there's any Classic Configuration in the game b/w viktor & mordecai#not a chesshead and never was lol strategy games??? who's that#or i'll play them but not strategically. invented Flick Chess for indoor recess in elementary school#you flick a piece across the board and whatever you knock off the board = you took those pieces lmfao#though not like that has Zero strategy. thinking of my day enjoying tiddlywinks research#imagine my delight revisiting all this material like oh yeah the little pic of freckle tiddlywinking#let's squop; boys#i'm also supposing that chess sets? checkers sets? and etc. would be common general store features; like phone usage....real general....#but like; what; are we expecting this Not to bring a response from marigold lol#got the nervous twitch but they're like ''ah it's fine. cost of doing business''

so it’s. it’s like. man this is so hard without my laptop.
alright so Crassus is a weird guy, existentially. There’s a tendency to speculate, assign, and insert him into whatever places are conspiratorial and shadowy because he fits into those narrative places with ease. My personal favorite (aside from all of it) is the idea that he may have pulled strings wrt to Sulla and Caesar’s conflict to help get Caesar out of it.
Tumblr media
The Defeat of Rome: Crassus, Carrhae and the Invasion of the East, Gareth C. Sampson
In the universe that exists in my head, he definitely had a hand in it, but he didn’t really intend for Caesar to figure out he played a part in it, but Caesar’s good at puzzles, and noticing someone goes both ways. Binding someone to yourself goes both ways.
Tumblr media
Crassus: The First Tycoon, Peter Stothard
This scene takes place sometime relatively soon after Sulla’s death. Crassus has complicated feelings about it, Caesar less so. Veni, vidi, vici, baby!
Here’s a bonus thing that I keep thinking about with them.
Tumblr media
The Roman Revolution, Ronald Syme
like, utang na loob. and it is DEEP between them.

thinking about how in the manga aiura says she also saw teruhashi when she asked her crystal ball to show her her soulmate and was scared to learn that teruhashi would be her rival for saiki's love like... What if she mixed saiki and teruhashi up and misinterpreted. wouldn't that be so tragic? aiura also mentions that she can't predict lottery numbers because the karmic balance will strike back twice as hard. what if that's her punishment for using her powers in a self-interested manner by trying to find her soulmate? doomed to a life where no matter how much she may yearn for kokomi, she will always deny herself because of her ultimate belief in the truth of her own predictions?

Minor throwaway sentence in a book on corruption I've just finished was talking about 1930s gangsters and about certain organisations in Chicago which the author stated were more ethnically diverse than the Italian mafia, and whose members were said to have included 'Irish, Welsh, Italian, and Jewish' gangsters.
Now call me sheltered but I've seen MANY Italian American gangsters immortalised in film, I've heard of the Jewish mob, and the police Irish American gangs but I have yet to see a movie about the Welsh mob. As a rule I don't go in for gangster movies but I feel there's an unfilled niche here and also I need more info.
#Might delete this in a bit#On a more serious note given the context of the Great Depression and slumps in the coal mining districts of Britain#I can see why Welsh people who emigrated to America might be form an impoverished immigrant community targeted by organised crime#And possibly my surprise comes from outdated national stereotypes and the fact that popular stereotypes of 1930s gangsters#Rarely include immigrant groups that are largely Protestant (at least in the US- in Glasgow and London it's a different story)#Makes me wonder if all those Catholic Aesthetics that directors who make movies about Italian and Irish mobsters are so fond of#Would play the same with Meredith Davies who may be a crook but at least he regularly attends the Methodist chapel#And is a teetotaller and a fixture in various choirs#Welsh accents are often quite soft too I think I'd be fucking terrified of a Welsh gangster in a movie tbh#To be fair real life organised crime obviously encompassed people from all walks of life I'm more interested in movie depictions here#'More Welsh representation!' 'Ah yes how about as gangsters?' 'Er...'#Less surprised if I come across Scots because eventhough they're privileged in the US English media does seem to view Scottish accents#As threatening so Scots often get roped in to play tough guys and gangsters and villains in all sorts of media#And often they will get an Englishman to play a Scot and Scots to play Eastern Europeans which is also weird#But that's off topic; I am not however used to Welsh villains

Alright, the second one is more of a scenario than an ask, but like:
I wonder, after a while, after making progress and having proven to y/n that he really is making an honest effort to better himself, when the hurt has had some time to heal, what if one time when he is feeling frustrated, maybe a bad day in which old habits want to resurface with a vengeance, what if he asks y/n how they did it? How in the world did they manage to just decide to be better? To realize they didn't like who they were and changed tracks so easily? Change so much of who they were, not lose themself, and on top of that alone?
(I imagine at least, he doesn't know that they weren't completely alone. Michael was there. They too had someone that was like a brother for them to lean on. The one family member they decided to keep from that horrible past.)
I am chomping at the bit over this and I'm finally ready to give you an answer.
Eclipse comes to them, fists shaking as he clenches his fists until they hear metal scraping, and asks them 'how?' How did they leave behind everything they were, everything they did, and simply become better?
It wasn't simple. The vigilante tells him that, first, it almost killed them in a way they hadn't known they could die. It wasn't with a bullet or a knife or heavy rocks in a river. It was realizing that they were no better than what first set them down this path of survival.
The vigilante has seen Eclipse progressing, has accepted his apology, and sees the hurt in his dark optics. They trust their gut. It's time to tell him something he didn't know about them.
Vanny took them away as a child and the one person who could have stopped the gangster could have saved them, looked the other way. A cop paid off.
The vigilante realized they were just the same as that police officer, just as corrupted and cruel when they handed that child to William Afton. They were no better than the evil that made them into Afton's loyal dog.
If surviving meant this, Y/N didn't want to survive anymore. They didn't want to look in the mirror and see themselves as another reason a child is left to suffer because no one else cared enough to save them. Apathy is no longer an excuse. They must care, or they must die a very real but not physical death, and to save themselves, Y/N acted to stop the hurt despite having spent so long numb and deliberately ignoring the pain outside of them. It was dreadful and it was almost too much to face, but they did it, and they did it by first asking for help.
Eclipse's hands have stopped shaking when the vigilante finishes. They place their palm over his curled fingers and slowly turn his large hand until they can see his palm. They smile and draw a little circle on his shadowy silicon and tell him he's doing just fine. He just has a little further to go. One day, it will be as simple as breathing, as pulsing with electricity, but right now, it's okay. He has his brothers, and he has a rather dashing vigilante, too.

I'm just going to take this space to vent about how tired I am of characters in Thai BL living in hotel rooms. Like, I understand why it happens, and I don't begrudge productions for spending their limited budget on other things. But still. It annoys me.

It's so funny that rgg has so many middle-aged men who are by all appearances virgins. There are 15 playable characters across the series if you count all of the Y7 party, and only like three of them have canonically had sex. And one of those three is Haruka.
ok so i made a chart

Hi- hope you are well, I love your art! I was wondering if you had an opinion on whether or not Crassus would side with Pompey or Caesar in the event that they still ended up going to civil war if he lived (noting he'd probably have been able to prevent it if he wanted to)
I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS A LOT
the part of me that believes in the enduring romance of a good partnership says he picks Pompey, but the part of me that loves tragedy and also spends too much time reading anything that mentions Crassus is saying 'it would depend.'
specifically, I think the decision would be timeline dependent, in the sense that Crassus would be more inclined to bet on Caesar since Pompey opts to stay in Rome and fulfill his command through legates, and his behavior during all of this is kind of eyebrow raising for someone like Crassus, who would probably start writing up a Pros/Cons list
it would also be thematically in line with Pompey, since the desertion of everyone except for Cornelia is important, and the loss of Crassus would be devastating since Crassus is one of the characters who has been in Pompey's narrative the longest, and his longest alliance for sure. Crassus outlived all of Pompey's marriages except for the one Pompey had to his son's widow, after all! and Pompey said he was the rising sun to Sulla's setting one, and you gotta commit to the theme if you're going to speak it into the world! and to a certain degree, Crassus also might feel more inclined to trust Caesar more at this point
on the other hand, a little later down the timeline, Caesar flips the Senate off and does his little Rubicon Scene, and provided Crassus hasn't picked between the two, he would probably re affirm his decades long coalition with Pompey because Sulla's Ghost marching on Rome is unacceptable. also, thematically here we're unlocking Sulla's Ghost (Caesar) going against Sulla's Heirs (Crassus, Pompey), and we've arrived at a Civil War With Layers To It Anyway! as both a Thebaid and Pharsalia enjoyer, this appeals to me immensely.
creating a situation where no Civil War happens is intriguing too, since the deaths that prompt it are Julia and Crassus. so. creating a situation where Crassus doesn't invade Parthia is a fun puzzle to solve. historically, Crassus gave both his sons over to Caesar to get their start on the military ladder, and Publius is the spark that starts off the Parthian expedition, so there needs to be an alternate event that stops Crassus from planning the expedition. the easy way out is that Crassus simply holds it off for one more year or simply Does Not Do It, but it clashes with both Publius' character and the way that Crassus was aware that he's. like. old, and is trying to legacy build something for his sons, and Crassus' atypical hold on power does not seem like something Publius would be interested in pursuing. but Marcus on the other hand......maybe.......
I have been toying with the idea of figuring out a scenario where Crassus splits his sons between Pompey and Caesar, but man, trying to get any of these years to line up in a way for it to work would require a personal miracle from saint jude or something, like I'm sitting across from Crassus and going 'hey man, what do I have to do to make you stay in Syria and not make a bad decision.'

Thinking about when Mimzy said that Alastor was one of the only guys she knew who knew how to hold his liquor and keep up with her on the dance floor. Alastor only drinks the hard stuff, he does not like fruity drinks. Its gotta be something a coal miner would drink. but he also has a very high tolerance, he doesn't really get drunk that easily and he's very good at knowing his limits. He kills people, so he can't allow for himself to mess up and possibly get caught because he got drunk one night. he was a responsible drinker, and I def feel like he really was the preferred fella the ladies would always go after. i don't think a lot of men were fond of him because of how well he was with the ladies. and the way he's an enigma in hell its the same when he was human.
Alastor was extremely private, he never brought women home. h always turned down their advances. and even so they still loved being around him because Alastor was charming as fuck. but he knows how to have a good time.
I like to think that he was very privy to the kind of company Mimzy got involved with. Likely gangsters, and Alastor probably helped her out a lot too during those days.
