Happy Halloween and all that nonsense! I trust this posting finds you well. It’s been a good week of musical exploration and got some more songs for you to get your ear holes around. I hope you enjoy them!

First up and a recommendation from a good friend who knows about this sort of thing! Allen Stone.......no, I’d never heard of him either! An american R&B and soul artist from Spokane, Washington. He has released three albums to date, his first album ‘Last To Speak’ was released in 2010 and his latest ‘Radius’ was in 2015. However there have been a number of single releases this year which usually indicates an album is due, and if the songs released are a guide, what an album it promises to be! Stevie Wonder is noted among his inspirations on Wikipedia and his voice is uncannily similar to Mr Wonder, the music he produces is equally as addictive to listen to. I’ve had him playing all week and the two songs I cannot stop listening to are ‘Taste Of You’ and the one I’m posting, ‘Brown Eyed Lover’. There is an outstanding live version of this song also available on the YouTube. One to keep an eye on, give his albums a listen and see what you think!

Second today and a band by the name of The Lemon Twigs. Hailing from Long Island, New York the brains behind the band are brothers Brian & Michael D’Addario. I read that they would be supporting Arctic Monkeys during their UK tour but had never heard any of their music until I saw them on Jools Holland a few weeks back and have explored some more of their songs. They sound like a Belle & Sebastian/Supertramp cross in that they combine some good gentle indie in with some harmonic, soft rock to form a sound which is very distinctive. What is also distinctive is the theatrical nature of some of their shows and videos so if you are lucky enough to be going to see them supporting Arctic Monkeys then you’ll be in for quite the treat! As well as the song I’ve posted, give ‘Small Victories’ a listen off their latest 2018 debut album ‘Go To School’.

Finally today and some new Muse. If rock music was a cricket team then I’d be sending Muse in to open the batting, for nearly twenty years they have been the benchmark for rock music. Now, this is purely my opinion but the last two Muse albums slightly missed the mark. Whilst still very popular ‘The 2nd Law’ and ‘Drones’ had a few good tracks but to me were not as strong as the earlier back catalogue. Their debut album ‘Showbiz’ way back in 1999 introduced us to some outrageous sounds from the guitar, and vocal repertoire of lead Matt Bellamy, backed up by orchestral and classical influences seen in their following albums ‘Origin of Symmetry’ and ‘Absolution’. My favourite song of theirs is ‘Bliss’ from Origin of Symmetry and is everything Muse are to me; loud and raw with vocals hitherto unknown to music! In a little under three weeks Muse’s latest album ‘Simulation Theory’ will be released and has been described as having a retro 80′s style to it. We wait and see how this album is received but one of the single releases prior to the album release is a song called ‘Pressure’ and when I heard it I was transferred back 15 years. Brilliant catchy opening riff, the falsetto voice, the pounding rhythm, I enjoyed it enormously, so thought I’d share it! I look forward to giving the new album a listen.
