some ramblings, appreciating deltarunes "layers" of story/lore

I might have already written something about this before, but something that I really love about deltarune is that it's a game that (from what we can tell) has several different layers to the story that are all enjoyable, for different... levels of players to enjoy! Like, you have the upfront stuff, about oh, dark worlds, the knight, and kris' soul (protagonist vs player and such) but its mostly just some young teenagers goofing off going to fantasy worlds and learning some self improvement then you go a tad bit deeper, still things most people may ask and you have... well what the hecks up with dark worlds logistically, why is ralsei, and what dark worlds represent (escapism woah), and for some, secret bosses expanding on the whole free will + kris' soul shenanigans thats where it may end for most people, and i think thats great, that if you arent someone in extreme brainrot about the history of gaster then... i think the game will be very enjoyable without having to think about meta elements! and of course, as good writing tends to be, hints about one "level above" are slowly dropped to those who are below, to help them understand, but you get what im saying, right? its like, big nerds get thinking about the gaster shit earlier, before the game really is gonna start probably hammering in like hey whats up with that voice at the beginning

I do question whether dess will end up being about as secret as like, jevil is, or as secret as the man behind the tree and the mystery of the eggs is. but i feel like shes also a realy good opportunity for being a mystery thats almost entirely deltarune, without needing prior-context of who a random vaguely mentioned character in ut is. still, a lot of vague info is hidden in the files, so perhaps... hmm, well, there was that one abc_123 file where toby was like "don't share stuff from the files, thanks. you cant have secrets nowadays" and then.. i feel like when he changed it to just be laughter, that was his way of saying "alright, i see the game you want to play. ill play along" and thats why... for some people, hes playing the game of hiding mysterious stuff in the code. he knows what hes doing, of course. he knows people love looking in the games code, so hes trying to make it interesting even if people do that overall though i just like how theres different levels of enjoyment of the story so far. im sure the game will end up telling everyone about dess and gaster and such, in some way, but... for most people? itll be a game about the fun gang and their friends learning to become better people, and having some fun wacky adventures on the way there! tldr toby fox does "having different layers to your story" in a fairly interesting, enjoyable way. EDIT: yeah, ill make a v2 of this post. i more specifically am amazed at how you dont NEED to know the deeper layers than you want to, and its. cool !!

so im just gonna keep it simple. character, fandom, content warnings, and maybe some other flavourtags. the sorts of things thatll make it easier for me to just pop up a quick drawing on even a busy day without having to go through a silly step by step process on how to tag things. because i love sharing my art and posting :)) but not so much when it is difficult </3

in creatures of sonaria like. man. a year ago at this point? i made friends with someone and like. just by chance, they decided to add me to their pack and let me kill with them and like. Thoughts on Arcudi and Byrne's Doom Patrol runs

combining both cuz i think i can summarize my thoughts on each run pretty succinctly

arcudis run sucked, no ifs ands or buts. mainly cuz the cast was absolutely awful and grating. 70% of the dialogue is them just arguing with each other, 30% of which is ted being a cocky selfish asshole with no growth. the funny part is we learn nothing about them too, not one origin story among the 4 of them, which is especially funny in the case of ava cuz her whole thing is set up to be this big mystery box we just.... never open. the art sucked all the way through too. oh and the whole thing was a massive slap in the face to Pollack's whole run which i enjoyed infinitely more.

also, while the doom patrol usually is dysfunctional and argues a lot, the whole cast of this team is aged down to a young adult age so all the conflicts felt incredibly juvenile and grating to read, all packed with even a shitty little crush arc that goes nowhere.

now for byrne's run, i was actually pleasantly surprised for most of it! it was a full reboot which i wasnt expecting at all and wonder who itll tie in with the giffen run, cuz i remember reading the blackest night issues from that run (with absolutely no DP context) and they reference previous runs pretty explicitly.

anyway to what i liked, it felt a lot like the original pre crisis series in terms of a lotta tone and adventures, including a lotta classic scifi adventures, and the main team having really similar personalities to their original incarnations. especially rita! and she was my favorite part of the book for a good while, byrne was righting her so good until the last quarter or so of the book.

in the last quarter its revealed rita had a crush on cliff as a racecar driver ever since he was a kid and her accident is what drove her to work with niles in the first place. its just a step down for her character overall imo to have her whole motivation be a romance. we dont even get an explanation for how she has powers now like we do for literally every other member of the team, including the fucking chief. but personality wise up until the crush reveal? i think it was spot on rita and i enjoyed it

the whole run overall isnt like. amazing or anything, its very standard hero faire, nudge is alright but i know she dies IMMEDIATELY at the start of the next volume which makes her resolution in this one very funny to me. vee was fun enough but i doubt ill ever see him again. a nicer chief is a refreshing take but yeah i see why they usually opt for the more sinister version

anyway ill probably start giffens run tonight and im excited for the show premiere tomorrow d:

It's a lesson as old as time itself really, never judge a book by its cover, never judge a beast by its claws, thousands of iterations all equal to the very same principle.

But there are people who refuse to take such principles to heart, and would in fact rather spread principles in direct opposition.

Werecreatures have never had a very good reputation, from the animal-like designs to the depictions of their kind as unkind and ruthless. So trying to find a place to stay was much more difficult than it should have been.

"Four travelers for safe passage into the mindscape," a voice shrouded by a cloak muttered, waving down another werecreature, this one holding a bundle in its arms.

The bundle was crying, as though aware of the horrific events that would occur just beyond that gate.

"We've been tricked!"

"Judge Doyle!"

The werecreature holding the bundled skittered away on the eight spindly appendages protruding from it's back, paying no mind to the sound of footsteps against stone rapidly gaining in it.

Until it hit the ground with a sickening crack, and went stock still, the bundle falling to the ground like a rock.

Doyle had always been a cruel man. He'd trained his own son, Patton, to fear him, and to in turn fear that which opposed him.

And it was Doyle who had found the spider's body.

It was Doyle who took the bundle from the still and cold arms of its mother.

And it was Doyle who attempted to drown the eight-eyed and multi-limbed child that resided within.

"STOP!" Doyle only gave momentary pause at his son's call.

"What are you doing?." Patton said as he reached the bottom of the steps.

"Sending this creature to the dark side, right where it belongs," Doyle said coldly.

"You've killed an innocent person, and you believe the best course of action is to add the blood of a child to your crimes? What would Thomas think. . ." Patton said.

That had struck a nerve, the bundle was moved from the well.

"And what do you suggest I do?." Doyle snapped, thinking he'd stumped the man in front of him.

"Care for it, you've raised one son, what's another?" Patton said, raising an eyebrow.

"Me? Saddled with this- this-" Doyle paused for a few moments.

"Very well, we'll keep him in the old bell tower, by your village," Doyle said.

And he christened the child Virgil.

Virgil grew up lonely, terrified of even the slightest idea of leaving his tower.

His tower covered with bells and cobwebs and a table at the center with wooden constructs of the other denizens of the mindscape.

He grew up with no memory of his family other than those fed to him by Doyle. False memories of betrayal.

He grew up looking into the mirror and seeing eight eyes staring him back, each a cruel and sharp reminder of his inability to exist outside of that tower.

Patton had tried his best to undo such conditioning, but rarely was Patton allowed into the tower.

Today was a day Virgil remembered well, a festival of delight and chaos.

The Feast of Fools.

Patton had tried desperately to convince Virgil to attend, but Virgil was firmly locked under Doyle's heel, the spider caught in it's own web.

That is, for a moment.

One conversation at the dinner table, a recitation of the alphabet punctuated by far to many hisses and clicks, and Virgil was ready to flee.

He stitched up his own cloak, pulled it over his head, and ran out.

It was terrifying. His ears rang and his eyes burned like ash.

And then it all seemed to stop as he fell through cloth, instead punctuated by a gasp.

And then he was face to face with the most beautiful man he'd ever seen in his life. Eyes of golden yellow, hair of a deep brown, and scales of emerald. He was gorgeous, and he was holding Virgil's face as though it were a priceless glass treasure.

"I-Im sorry I-" Virgil stammered.

"Nonono, it's alright, you poor thing, you dont look very adept to sunlight do you?" He spoke softly, almost as if he though Virgil might flee if he were to loud.

Virgil shook his head slightly.

"Itll be fun, you should join the crowd, the light's much less likely to hit you there," and Virgil felt a soft kiss on his forehead before he rejoined the festivities.

And then came the main festival, someone he didnt recognize talked upstage and sang. Dark blue and purple hair like a galaxy bouncing around their face.

"Come one! Come all! Make an entrance to entrance- see the mystery and romance~" they purred as they backed toward the curtains.

"Come one! Come all! Hurry hurry heres your chance- see the finest man in France, dance Janus dance!" And then they were gone, replaced by the man Virgil had met before, now dressed in yellow and black cloth, his hair hidden under a hat.

Virgil flinched as Janus got closer and closer to where Doyle was watching the stage, wrapping a golden scarf around his neck as though Janus planned to choke him.

And then Virgil lost track of what was happening, until he was on stage, and he heard gasping.

He froze, he could almost feel Doyle's gaze from the other end of the stage.

And then the screams and gasping stopped, to be replaced with laughter. A crown was placed on Virgil's head, a cape fitted over the spindly legs sticking out from his back.

He smiled, the first genuine smile he'd had in decades.

Squelch

Virgil wasnt sure where the tomato had come from. Only that more were following, and suddenly ropes were tugging at his limbs,he tried to fight them off, tried calling for his father.

But Doyle only smiled and looked away. His guardsman, a man dressed in white and gold armor, green eyes wide with shock, made a single move toward Virgil, but was held back.

And then everything stopped, he felt hands against the ropes, heard Doyle call for someone to get down.

And then he was once again face to face with Janus.

"I'm so sorry. . . No one deserves this. . ." Janus said quietly before standing up, a hand firmly around Virgil's arm as he regained his own balance.

"You mistreat this poor man the same way you mistreat us all! You would call him a son and yet what freedom has he known! Compared to your only other son! What justice has been served as their spirits are crushed under the heels of men like you!." Janus snarled. Virgil saw a slight movement from the bell tower, likely Patton hiding behind a pillar before Doyle could catch his eyes.

"Silence." Was Doyle's only response.

"JUSTICE!" Janus called. Doyle pointed toward his guards, then toward Janus.

"Oh dear. . . Well let's see theres-" Janus pointed to each of the advancing guards and muttered under his breath "-ten of you, and one of me, oh what's a poor snake to do?" Janus pulled a yellow cloth from his dress and began to cry into it, before sneezing. . . And disappearing off stage.

Vitgil watched with intrigue as Janus led the guards throughout the square before disappearing into the building that made up the lower half of his bell tower.

Doyle beckoned for his head guard to follow him, before turning his eyes to Virgil.

And thus began Virgil's tearful walk back to the top of the tower.

His chest ached, he thought of Janus' hands caressing his face, of those eyes and scales and the way his lips quirked in a fashion that couldve been read as a sneer, were it not for the fact that his eyes looked as though they'd witnessed a miracle.

Virgil heard singing from the lower level of the tower, and upon further investigation, discovered that Janus had even more talents than Virgil had first thought.

So finally, he resolved to help him.

"Theres guards at every entrance, how exactly do you expect us to do this?" Janus said, raising an eyebrow.

"No one said we had to use a door," Virgil said with a sly grin.

"Hold on," he said, he felt Janus' arms around his waist, it was awkward, Janus had to have been almost two feet taller than he was.

Virgil reached one of his webs, pulled, and jumped off of the tower, Janus tried his best not to scream as they fell.

They said their goodbyes and Virgil pushed the necklace Janus had given him under his hoodie, he couldnt have it discovered, he'd rather die than be the reason Janus got hurt.

Which was why he'd decided to pin Roman to a wall when he came up the stairs.

"Woah woah woah- hey- I'm not here for him I promise! I helped him declare sanctuary!" Roman whisper-yelled.

"Then why are you here now." Virgil snarled.

"Just- tell him I'm sorry, and tell him I hope he's safe," Roman said.

Virgil paused for a moment before letting Roman down.

"You know. . . Janus is lucky to have you. . ." Roman said as he trodded down the stairs.

Things only seemed to get worse from there, Virgil could hardly breath as smoke rose from the ground, the crackling of fire mixing with the screams of the were-creatures who refused to give away Janus' location.

Until Janus showed up at Virgil's tower himself, this time carrying Roman's body in his arms.

"He was shot. . . Almost through the heart. . ." Janus said quietly. Virgil nodded and gathered up cobwebs to make bandages. He wished he couldve made fresh ones, but it had been many years since he'd stopped being able to use that ability.

"He can stay with me- you need to run, fast," Virgil said, shooing Janus away. Janus pressed one last kiss on Roman's lips before fleeing.

And soon Roman himself was on the run alongside Virgil. Both on a mission to keep Janus and his people from a gruesome death at Doyle's hands.

Virgil wasn't exactly sure what he'd been expecting from the Court of Miracles, but it certainly wasnt the same galaxy-haired catboy from the stage prancing around in front of a set of gallows gleefully calling out the supposed misdeeds of Virgil and Roman, before declaring their imminent deaths on the charge of complete innocence.

"Stop! These arent enemies! They're our friends!" And then came Janus from the crowd.

Everything happened all to quickly after that. Screaming and racing around trying to escape as their plans came crashing at Doyle's feet.

And then Virgil found himself chained to a tower.

And watching Janus standing on a pyre, straw littering his feet, flames kicking up around him.

And Virgil only felt one emotion, rage.

Chains were pointless. Chains were stifling and unnecessary and Virgil wanted nothing to do with them. He only wanted Janus safe and in his arms.

So it was quite the disappointment when he discovered Janus' lack of breath.

"You killed him. . ." Virgil muttered as he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"I had to. . . I only wish it had happened before he'd done such damage to you. . ." Doyle muttered. Virgil noticed a knife being brought towards him in the shadows on the walls.

That blade wouldve looked so much better in Doyle's heart. But fire worked quite well to.

Virgil had been afraid if the sun for quite some time, afraid of anything to do with the outside. But it was much easier to get through when he had his hands intertwined with both Janus and Roman's, and when he wasnt stifled by a fear of his own face.

Patton was always excited when it came to dates with Logan, Logan was so kind and sweet and gentle and passionate, and he always made Patton feel safe on dates.

But even more important was how good he was at planning them, every little detail was exciting and there were always so many things to look at.

Tonight, Logan had set something up in the imagination, it had taken the form of an enchanted forest, almost like it was in space.

"Lolo you've really outdone yourself, this is beautiful," Patton said, smiling as he ran his hands through the leaves of the trees.

"I thought you might like it, but it's not done yet, I've got something special set up further in," Logan said.

"Oh really?" Patton said, smile broadening.

"Mhm, I think you'll enjoy it quite a lot actually," Logan replied.

And soon enough they came upon a clearing, a table was set up in the center with dozens of types of food and drinks.

"Lolo!" Patton gasped, clasping his hands together over his chest.

"I knew you'd like it," Logan said, running his fingers through Patton's hair.

"You've really outdone yourself Lolo," Patton said, leaning his head against Logan's shoulder.

"Well, shall we?" Logan asked, gesturing to the table.

"I think we shall," Patton replied.

It was all going well for so long, until the forest suddenly went dark.

"Lolo? What's happening?" Patton grasped around until he found Logan's hand.

"Stay close Pat, I'm not sure yet," Logan replied.

"Oh isnt this a pretty sight? So sorry to crash the party, but the imagination is closed today," a loud and commanding voice sounded from the woods.

"Romulus," Logan growled, Patton looked up at him with surprise.

"You know him?" Patton said.

"Oh of course he knows me, he helped create me," Romulus said with a grin.

"What!" Patton squeaked.

"We'd both been reading the story of Jekyll and Hyde, it was only meant to be an acting performance, Roman wanted to go for realism," Logan said all to calmly.

"For someone so smart, Logan, you dont have a lot of common sense," Romulus said with a laugh.

"Logan's got plenty of common sense! Plenty more than you've got!" Patton said.

And then his throat felt cold, almost frozen.

"Is that any way to talk to your king?." Romulus snarled, Patton tried to respond, but he couldnt seem to speak.

And then he felt himself falling to the ground, he couldnt seem to control his own actions anymore.

"Patton? Patton can you hear me? Its gonna be ok Pat-" and then Logan went quiet as well.

"You know, I've already got a prince and a duke, but that hardly makes up a proper court," Romulus said with a laugh, and then Patton finally saw him.

Dressed in black and red,with bronze accents throughout, eyes an odd mix of charcoal and blood red, grinning as though he'd received the best news of his life.

"But I still need an alchemist and a gentleman-in-waiting for my prince," and then everything went dark.

Patton's head felt fuzzy when he woke up. Looking down he saw that he was dressed in same blacks and reds as Romulus, though his outfit was composed of a black vest with red accents, a white long-sleeved polo shirt, black pants, and black boots.

He looked around, and saw, sitting in front of a vanity, none other than Virgil, dressed in a black dress, with a blood red choker around his neck.

"Virgil?. . ." Patton approached him, Virgil looked almost dazed.

"Are you here to help me get ready?" Virgil said in a monotone voice.

"Ready for what?" Patton asked.

"Romulus and I are getting married, remember?" Virgil replied, as though nothing was wrong with this sentence.

"Oh- Uhm- of course, but I just have to stop by the alchemist's first-" Patton said.

"Oh, ok," Virgil replied "have fun," and Patton was racing off.

He flung the door open to a nearby tower, and there was Logan, dressed in robes of red and black, looking just as confused as Patton felt.

"Oh Lolo thank goodness nothing's happened to you yet-" Patton flung himself into Logan's arms.

"Patton- are you alright? Nothing's happened? He hasnt hurt you has he?" Logan said, moving his hands over Patton's body, checking him for injuries.

"I'm alright- its Virgil I'm worried about- it's like hes been locked in some kind of- trance- he said he and Romulus were getting married," Patton said.

"Well that's obvious, Romulus calls him his prince, and we're trapped in a castle with very obvious roles, clearly, Romulus is trying to rebuild the imagination into a kingdom of his own image," Logan replied.

"What are we going to do?" Patton asked.

"I dont know yet, but itll be alright, I promise, now go help Virgil get ready, if hes already fallen under some sort of spell its likely Romulus knows what happens in his room, it's best not to get in trouble for not being there," Logan said, Patton merely nodded, and tried his best to keep from crying as he walked away.

Alright so would i date these men (+ mei mei) in real life. Short answer is yes lmao. Long answer, with some headcanons that may or may not  venture into 18+ category but only slightly. all aged up to be my age which is 26.

Atsumu - PLEASE, YES

we would be so chaotic together but he would also be really loving. As long as he can still prioritize me in a relationship, not over volleyball, just as much, then we will be golden. We would have such a good time and i feel like we would have a lot of fun bickering, which i really enjoy. Play fighting as a form of foreplay, if you will lmao. We’d probs be friends in HS and then get together after he starts playing for MSBY and he is secured in his position (and himself tbh). I just love this cocky bastard. he also gives me switch vibes and as a switch, i love that for me.

Daichi - YES

All i need is to be wrapped in his arms on the daily and i would be happy. Man would know how to take care of me and that is all. Love of my life, too good for this world. Wholesome husband. He would be able to manage my crazy side and chill me out when i get to anxious. I would want to be bratty just to get him to drop his good guy routine sometimes and I feel like he would like that.

Issei - YES

Funeral home employee can get it. Matsukawa Horse cock Issei can whisk me off my feet and straight into bed. we would have a lot of fun picking on oikawa together (out of love of course) but we would balance each other out a lot. His darker humor would go well against my lighter humor. Also I feel like our level of hotness is pretty comparable... like we aren't the prettiest in the friend group but still good (if that makes sense)

Bokuto - YES

Big ball of sunshine to light up my day, he would literally fuck the sad out of me every day I just know it. Like atsumu, as long as I am a priority to him itll work out. We also kind of have the same sad moods so I feel like we could either both just curl up on the couch together and watch a movie or bring the other out of a funk easily. I love this giant himbo so much.

Hinata - most likely yes

Pretty much the same reasons as bokuto but I feel like I would get drained of his energy faster, so he would def have to cuddle me more. For everyone else so far I can imagine being high school sweethearts, but with hinata i think he wouldnt settle down until later, or even start dating so it would probably be a lot of pining and watching him from the side lines for a while, which would be really hard tbh. but the way he would smile at me after a match would make it worth it so...

 Kyoutani - Hard YES

I love a boy with anger issues, what can i say... (cough couch my irl husband with anger issues couch couch) I would love to be his weak spot and the one person he would go to to help him not feel angry anymore. I think that my fun personality would help him to unbox himself a bit. I just want to give him cuddles and a place to feel accepted. id also i KNOW hes a monster in bed... 

Bakugou - FUCKING HARD YES, PLEASE

if he was real the things i would do to and for him... A lot like kyoutani i would want to give him a place where hes accepted, and a place where he is unconditionally loved. I would be able to handle his misguided anger and calm him down and give him space. I headcanon that hes very cuddly in private to just his S/O which is something that i love. I love his lil smirk and would do anything to get him to smirk at me. As long as he is able to set me as a priority it would work out, but that would be what he struggles with so it would be a thing we would have to talk about. But I also feel that once you say something about it he would check in with you because of course he has to be the best bf/husband. I feel like I could talk for hours about him so Ill just wrap it up by saying that I love me a passionate man who would probs be a lil possessive, and I would use that to my advantage. 

Denki - GOD YES

I really do think that denki and I are soulmates. we are both the perfect blend of funny, pervy, while still being soft. I feel like there would be a lot of mutual pining at first but he would end up the golden retriever gamer boy to my alt bisexual and thats just the perfect pairing. We would pull so much shit and then get away with it because thats just us being us. I see us being scolded by bakugou a lot for the stupid shit we would pull. Also late night drives in his shitty tuned car to taco bell while we sing alt rock songs from the 2010s. also the switch vibes are immaculate.

 Hawks - Probably

So it would honestly depend a lot on what version of hawks.. him in the hero commission is a no, because he wouldnt be able to be honest with me about a lot of stuff. Like his name, or when i can see him again, and that would give me too much anxiety. When hes free of them and is actually allowed to be himself I think it could work then. I know that he of course wants to still be the best hero, so he would have the same problems as bakugou with finding a balance, but if he wants to i think he could. He would also have a lot of trauma from his relationship with his parents and the commission so I dont know if he would be able to give his love away as freely as he wants so we could get therapy together. I love that for us. But i would happily wake up next to this beautiful birb man if he would have me.  

Sukuna - A hesitant yes

so.. the anger issues that ive mentioned before.. yes. I would like sukuna. I would be his lil bride and sit on his lap on his throne as long as he didnt kill my loved ones or my cats lmao. I would also be ok with being his and itadoris gf while hes living in itadoris head. being with him is just asking for an unhappy ending tho, whether its a life always on the run, or someones trying to kill me, or someones trying to kill him, or hes trying to kill someone. But yes i would like to be with him but that would mean sacrificing a lot. 

Mei Mei - god yessssss..

Please Mei Mei step on me and make me ur lil house wife. I see us living in a pent house apartment with the most breathtaking view of the Tokyo skyline. I would want for nothing and she could take me where ever she wanted and i would just follow her around with heart eyes.

 Kagami - YES

my basketball husband! i love him and would love to be loved by him. Id follow him wherever. He would take care of me and is just so dreamy.. also i guess the mild anger issues.. but hes really not that bad. He would just be such a good s/o. He would cook us nice dinners, wed have a few cats, and he would carry me around a lot because hes so strong. While were on the topic of strong... his stamina... everyone on this list probably has good if not great stamina... but kagami just hits different..... have you seen him in the zone? have you seen his thighs? his sex zone has got to be incredible. 

 Levi - Yes

I was going to say it depends, but really it doesn't... if were in the aot universe and hes my captain and I fall in love with him u can bet ur ass im gonna try and get with him because i could die at anytime. if its some au where he is here in our universe and somehow we meet... like of course im gonna be in love with him. our height difference isnt too bad, im only like an inch or 2 taller than him. I think we would both have a great time together. I would make him laugh, and he would help me clean, because lord knows I hate cleaning. BUT i hate cleaning because its something that I always have to do alone, and I feel like levi would have us be cleaning together like he makes the scouts do. and hes just so sexy... 

Jean - big yes

This beautiful handsome man... idk what to even say about him. Hes strong, funny, handsome, cocky, but very much full of love. would love to run away from the world with him. I feel like if he was in love with me before *tries not to give away spoilers* the marco incident (?) that after he would become very clingy and attached and im ok with that. There would have to be lots of cuddles and reassurances and i just want to see him happy and not at war, with both real life people and himself... id give him the best kisses and he would become addicted to them. 

Mikoto - No? But maybe...

I feel like we could be.. but if you watched the show then you know.. But i would love to be Homra’s princess TBH. No one would mess with me or they would have to face the wrath of my big fire boyfriend and his whole ass gang. But on the other hand I feel like Mikoto wouldnt allow himself to fall in love, so it would probably be a hush hush topic. everyone knows the boss and I are in an entanglement, but they cant talk about it. Then Anna starts asking questions to Mikoto and he has to come clean to her, which would be so cute. "Shit."

I said, looking over my mother's text. She had sent it to all of us. All five of us, me and my 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

"What's wrong?"

Vinny asked, looking down into the funyuns bag and pulling one out.

"My mother wants us kids to send out Christmas cards to her and the family."

He looked confused.

"What's wrong with that?"

I sent him a panicked look, a whine escaping my throat.

"How am I gonna explain to this woman that I am twenty six and single even though I told her I wasn't. And what's worse is she said she is sending us each a check to pay for it."

I clicked my phone off and dropped into the couch, sinking into it and sulking at my new dilemma. I heard him laugh and slowly turned my head to look at what could be so funny.

"What?"

he shrugged, popping another chip in his mouth.

"ill be your fake boyfriend."

he said and i snorted.

"you most certainly will not."

i said and he frowned.

"why not? its not like we dont have pictures together on your socials, it wouldnt be that suspicious. plus i would make a great fake boyfriend."

i sent him a look and he raised his brows expectantly.

"no."

i said and he shifted in his seat on the couch.

"come on y/n! itll be fun!"

i rolled my eyes at him before giving in.

"fine, but you have to take this seriously vin, i mean it."

i pointed in his direction and he crossed his finger over his heart.

"i promise i will take this as seriously as you need me to. and i vow to be the best photo buddy."

i sent him a look before turning my phone back on to text my mother back.

the day was finally here, our photoshoot for the Christmas cards.

"vin are you done yet?"

i called down the hall, hearing grunting and drawing my brows.

"you good in here?"

i asked, pushing the door open. in front of me was vin on the floor, his shirt disheveled and his jeans half way up his thighs. i couldnt help laughing at his predicament.

"what the hell are you doing?"

i said amused and he sighed.

"this isnt working."

i shook my head.

"well it would help if you unbuttoned them."

he sent me a dumb look.

"you think i didnt try that first?"

he said and i shook my head, standing over him and leaning down to undo the pants. i frowned when the button popped but the zipper wouldnt budge. i stood up, hands going to my hips.

"alright, take them off."

i said and he sat up, his brows drawn.

"what?"

i moved to the closet.

"we'll try something else."

i heard him struggle to stand.

"but didnt your mom want all matching outfits? thats why she sent them."

i shrugged, pulling a similar pair of his own jeans out and tossing them over to him.

"she shouldve thought about that before buying jeans with a faulty zipper, now get dressed, we're gonna be late."

i said, leaving him standing there in his boxers. i walked quickly down the hallway to the kitchen, finishing breakfast for the two of us so we could take it to go. when he came in he did a spin.

"this look alright?"

he said and i nodded, handing him the muffin and kissing his cheek.

"yes, now lets get a move on it."

as we finished the last set of pictures i couldnt help laughing at vin. he had been a light in the darkness the whole two hours we had been out here so far and i was glad he had talked me into this. i was just hoping the pictures turned out as good as i felt they did, even though i had seen anything to suggest good or bad.

"no!"

i yelled as he ran up behind me, tossing leaves my way and making me laugh. i heard the camera click a few times as he hugged me from behind, a wide smile across his lips.

"why not?"

he joked, leaning down and kissing my cheek. i nodded my head, looking into his eyes as he pulled away.

"youll get them in my hair."

i said matter-of-factly and he mocked me.

"oh, youll get them in your hair? is that right?"

he asked and i nodded.

"yes, that is right."

i said and he shook his head, picking me up and slinging me over his shoulder.

"Vincenzo! put me down!"

i screeched, the photographer laughing at us.

"actually thats brilliant."

she said and i sent her a concerned look.

"stay right there."

she said, moving forward to tilt his head so he was looking over his opposite shoulder. she then handed me the 'family christmas' plaque, moving back to her spot.

"youre doing perfect y/n, just one more."

she said, taking a few more snap shots. when she looked at them she smiled back at me.

"i think we've got it."

she said, vinny bouncing up and making me gasp before he dropped me down onto the ground making me laugh. as i was going down though i grabbed him and pulled him into the pile of dead leaves with me.

"aw come on!"

he said as i rolled on top of him, straddling him and dropping leaves on top of his chest. he sent me an annoyed look before sitting up quickly and all the leaves falling to the forest floor around us.

"thats rude."

he said, draping his arms around my waist.

"thats payback baby."

i said, poking his nose. he scrunched it at me, leaning forward.

"its rude."

i shook my head.

"you brought this on yourself."

i said.

"oh!"

the photographer said, taking both our attention.

"i know i said i was done but thats perfect. could i get you two to kiss though?"

she asked and my eyes went wide, my head snapping in the vinnys direction. he had a nervous smile on his face.

"we dont have to if you dont want to."

he said and i thought for a second.

"what the hell."

i said, holding his head lightly and leaning in. when our lips connected i heard the camera shutter a few times. i drew back, resting my forehead against his but keeping my eyes closed.

"i love you."

he said lightly and my eyes snapped open. he had a lazy smile on his lips and i couldnt help melting a little bit.

"i love you too vin."

i said and he pulled me in for another kiss. when i pulled away again he moved his hands back to my waist.

"guess you dont have to worry about having a fake boyfriend any more."

he said and i raised a brow.

"oh?"

i could see the blush creeping its way to his face.

"that is, if you dont mind taking this to another level."

i laughed a little bit and nodded.

"id love that vin."

he sent me a toothy smile, pulling me in for a hug.

"you have no idea how glad i am to hear that."

rant

I am much more aware (although still pretty dense at times) when it comes to knowing what people think of me. Made amends with m cousin a little mover a month ago. We had a falling out 2 yrs ago and havent spoken since (although she tried to reach out about a year ago but I wasnt having it). And in her eagerness to make amends she’s been inviting me over a lot. Like a LOT. To the point she gave me her spare key (without me asking or in any way implying that I wanted a key). And I know how over zealous I get in friendships. Thinking its deeper than the other person thinks. 

Told a friend Id known all through out highschool I wanted to come visit her one weekend (a classmate/quasi friend in college was going up that way and knew I had friends in the area and offered me a ride) and she was fine with it until a day before when she realized I expected to sleep in her dorm room. She snapped at me and said I couldnt just invite myself over to stay in her dorm room which...fair point. I shouldnt have ASSumed. Even though we seemed to have a fun time the last time she invited me to her school to hang out and spend the night. I just misunderstood our friendship which dies out pretty soon after. 

Even though Ive gotten better (I think) at this I still mess up. At this point I dont even have any friends. No meaningful relationships outside of family and those just feel like theyre being nice to me out of obligation. The only people who REALLY like me are a bunch of toddlers. But its alright. Most of the time it doesnt bother me. I just have to keep reminding myself that just bc people are nice to me doesnt mean they want to be friends. And I usually work enough so i dont have time to hang out or do anything anyways so its whatever. 

What gets me are people who push the relationship. And I think we could actually be friends. But then they get tired of it and realize they dont actually like spending time with me but instead of being honest with me theyll just make up lies. And I wish I could go back tot he days where I was oblivious to their intentions and just believed the lies. Now I can tell and it kills me everytime it happens. 

Back to my cousin. I think she’s reached that point where she’s grown tired of me. Even though i had a key I made sure never to go over unannounced. And I thought I was doing ok and we were having fun. But something just seemed off when we were hanging with her friends yesterday. She invited me but i dont think I was really wanted there. Today I managed to snag a freezer for her for a really good price and deiced to gift it to her for her bday which was a couple of days ago. I know she’s been wanting one bc Ive been helping her look for one. I called her after i picked it up to check of she was home and she seemed really annoyed i wouldnt tell her what it was bc I wanted it to be a surprise. She said she was about to head out to get something to eat so i decided to run some errands and kill some times. About 1.5 hrs later I asked her if she was back yet and she wasnt. So I went home to wait. Its been about 4 hrs now and I know she’s just forgotten about me or is ignoring me. I know she’ll text me in a few hours saying she fell asleep or something bc at that point she knows itll be late enough I wont come over. 

And I hate myself so falling for it all over again. I hate that Im just trying to be a good friend and she doesnt like it. Just tell me. Please. People ask why i always do things by myself and this is why. Its less painful. I go to the movies, concerts, dinners, etc by myself bc I can to what I want when I want without anyone criticizing my choices and making fun of me for what I like. I do thing by myself bc I dont expect anything of anyone so they cant disappoint me. My cousin keeps saying she’s going to come over and help me unpack but everytime she claims she’s sick. I had to take a day off of work tomorrow bc she insisted the only way she was going to come over was if it was first thing in the morning after she dropped her kid off at school. Even though Im home by 1:30 most days and her kid doesnt have to be picked up until 6pm the latest. And now she’s ignoring me so she’ll probably make up some excuse not to come over tomorrow meaning Ive taken a day off of work for nothing.
