GUIDE TO STARTING TO WORK OUT

The first step to working out is setting goals related to exercise, not physical appearance. Avoid things like fat loss, muscle gain, smaller waist, bigger glutes and so on. 

While you can make this a separate goal, the reason why I don’t want you to associate it with exercise is that we then allow the way our body looks to dictate whether we believe the exercise we’re doing is good enough. 

Exercise and body aesthetics are two different things. Exercise is a means of nourishing our body, soul and mind, while body aesthetics is how ‘good’ our body looks. 

On that topic, I want you to stop focusing on your physical appearance when starting to exercise and I want you to start implementing a new mindset shift about your body. Instead of seeing your body as something to look at, appreciate it for what it can do. 

For example, your hands create meals, hug your loved ones and help you with essential tasks. Your legs help you to get around, especially to your favourite places. Your stomach helps with digesting all the yummy food you eat. 

Some goal ideas:

Lift 15kg+ 

Be able to do a plank for more than 5 minutes

Learn how to do a push-up

Be able to run on the treadmill for 30 minutes 

Gain more stamina and exercise for longer 

Moving on, set a time each day in which you prioritise exercise. This can be for however long you want and the times can vary daily. 

So, during this period, you are not allowed to do anything else other than exercise. It doesn’t even have to be a specific exercise either, if you’re feeling lazy and laps walking around the house is what feels best, do it. 

However, avoid obsessing over working out and losing yourself to exercise. This kills motivation, in exercise starts to feel like another obligation in the day and not a privilege. 

Now, you have to choose what exercise is right for you. I don’t believe you’re limited to one exercise, if you want you can have more than 1. 

Gym – Perfect for a mix of strength and cardio, however not the best option if you want to exercise for free.

Yoga – Tones muscles while also being a mindful experience. Low low-impact, but recommend doing it after cardio. 

Cycling – Tones the legs and the glutes, but cycling may not be the best idea depending on where you live. 

running/jogging – Strengthens muscles and bones, however, if you don’t have flat areas, may not be the best idea. 

Pilates – Improves flexibility and tone, while still being low impact (still may be challenging).

Weightlifting – Makes you stronger and boosts your metabolism, best done at the gym. 

There are plenty of ways to exercise that I haven’t mentioned here, but these are just ideas so you can research the ones that suit you best.

I recommend talking to a doctor if you haven’t done exercise in a long time, as that can open up the possibility of injury. 

Then, once we have our goals, times and what we’re doing, we need to exercise. Implementing exercise in your life is best done slowly. 

Start with simple, and smaller versions of workouts, even if you think you can do more. Do this for about a week, then try to extend yourself with something harder. If it is too hard, don’t be afraid to go back a step. 

Make it fun, create a motivating exercise playlist or watch your favourite TV show while doing it. 

However, the main thing about exercising is that every day you are not always going to feel like it, but that is when we have to discipline ourselves, talk to the mirror and say; ‘Me exercising is a privilege, I get to nourish my body because I love and respect it so much’. 

This was the best way I disciplined myself into working out. Treating it like a privilege and something that is very benefical, rather than a painstakingly challenging activity.

Or, instead, you can visualise what you would look and feel like if you continue like this for the next 5 years.

My week are always i bit busy with work and stuff but I’m starting to feel a bit more myself again, I’m taking time to read, and dedicating myself to some covers and revisiting old favorite fiction, so yes…step by step!

As for the fic “with a whimper” I’ve been able to finish it! I liked it, a very well built world and characters, the action always left you on the edge like “oh my god what is happening nowww??”. It is very intense under that point of view, there are few moments of calm and rest when you can see the characters build a relationship because the whole story just passes from one problem to be solved to another and it felt a bit overwhelming at times. Very cute the fact that little Lux was in this fic, it brought a breath of fresh air in a horrible post-apocalyptic world.

So in the end: a very good fic, very well written with a good pace, a bit heavy because there’s little time for H and L to really explore their feelings so it comes to the end with this explosion of feelings all around them and us, but I liked it, I recommend it and I have to say it was a good way to start to read again, I needed something that would keep me glued and interested, so totally worth it!

And the camping story turned out to be pretty nice, yeah! Sola and her husband Raúl are the only couple every in existence actually (okay not quite but i love them very much). i love their dynamic, they love and support each other, listen to each other and help each other grow as humans. i just gave them the ideal relationship and its what they deserve ✨cute canon thing about them: they actually met when they were young kids but then met again in college only to then remember that they had met very briefly before.

what they smell like

sola's hands smell like potting soil/earth most of the time, during the day she likes to tend to her plants and herbs she has growing out back in a little greenhouse. other times she smells like daisy perfume or like whatever food she's cooking because that's her second favorite hobby

what their favorite smells in the world are

for sola it is exactly what the inside of her mother's house smells like, which is a special combination of smells and i can't list them all here. she misses being there which is why its her favorite, the love and homesickness.

what position they sleep in

chelsie sleeps bundled up in a fetal position on most nights beneath a ton of covers and blankets. she doesn't usually sleep with her head poking out either, its more like a flat pillow fort. i think that gradually she stops sleeping like that and starts sleeping on her side instead though, but it depends on how comfortable she feels.

What they smell like

she smells like lemon citrus/freshly squeezed lemons naturally and its funny because its like she's been drinking lemonade every day of her life but she definitely hasn't! lemony gorl.

a song that reminds me of them

Stagnant by chloe moriondo. i relate this one to chelsie's self image/thoughts about herself and her life prior to moving to sunshine, az. it's a spiraling funk she had to climb out of but having to move so often and not being able to keep friends for long made her think less of herself for quite a while. she internalized all of that + plus her mom's an asshole so that doesn't help

another song which i think of as her song is Up All Night by alex clare and its a absolute banger. i associate it with her need for adventure and something new happening in her life, her need to just get out there and do something but also her true self who is energetic, outgoing and rebellious at her roots.
