A collection of some of the Wyverns in my story!

Some lore:

Whiteout is a Icereaper bonded to Gwendolyn Duratus, he’s playful with Gwen most times but tends to get more cranky if there are other people or dragons around. He is the brother of Blizzard.

Redmaw is a female Flamereaper bonded to Hades Ardor, she’s battle-hardened and was rather aggressive in her youth. However now that she has aged she has become less aggressive. She is mother to Doombringer and Grandmother to Soultaker.

Glacier is a female, Elder Hail/Frostreaper, she the second oldest of the Duratus Wyverns and bonded to Ullr Duratus, the family elder. She is still a rather quick fighter even in her almost 150 years of life. She seems to have laid only one clutch in her lifetime.

Nightfang is a male Blood/Nightreaper, he is bonded to Ex-mercenary Jean, he is curious and temperamental. He has sired Frostbite and Snowfall with Snowstorm.

Inferno is a male Ember/Flamereaper (Flameborn), he is bonded to Pyrrha Ardor (Also Flameborn), he is aggressive and temperamental towards all but Pyrrha. He was sired by a wild Flamereaper and Warhaze.

Borealis is a male Snowreaper, bonded to Aurora Duratus, he is usually very calm but whenever Aurora feels uneasy he becomes more aggressive.

Vindr is a female Boltreaper, she is bonded to Aesir Fulgur, a traitor to Archaios. She is just as mean and aggressive as her rider.

Paleskull is a male Ember/Ghostreaper bonded to a merc called Vendetta, he is almost completely blind but rarely misses his target.

Skullcrusher is a female elder Magmareaper bonded to a man simply known as "The Brute", just like her rider she is stoic and deadly, large enough to dwarf almost all the Ardor/Duratus/Fulgur Wyverns, and with scales thick enough to withstand all kinds of damage.

Green Fang is a female elder Grovereaper bonded to the Forest elf chieftain Ashwangandha, she always sticks close to him but is not really aggressive until she needs to be.

Warhaze is a female Emberreaper, bonded to Pyrrha's father, Ares Ardor. She is very quick to display anger but still calmer than Inferno by a lot.

Overcast is a female Stormreaper, she’s bonded to Heimdall Fulgur and very loyal, sticking very close to him as much as she can but she’s a fierce fighter and has taken out other Wyverns before.

Sea Ghost is a very old female Seareaper with oddly pale scales, she very docile and preys on fish mostly, she usually longed not far from Auras capital city by the shore there, some Sea elves go to feed her every now and then.

Equinox is a male Nightreaper bonded to Nyx Lunar of the Temple of Fengari and his night. He is calm and collected most times but does insist on pets as compensation for being so calm all the time.

Geyser is a male Ember/Seareaper bonded to a woman named Llyr, she too is a mercenary hired by Aionios, she and her beloved mount are currently taking out Sea elf outposts on small islands moving towards the continent of Archaios.

arlight so i was thinking about the norse god heimdall, and how his death acts as a sort of canary call, the first to die in ragnarok, but with his death warning the others of what is coming. and that got me thinking about, you guessed it, canary!jimmy. And then I thought "but what if life series norse god symbolism" (or maybe even AU not sure)

So I present:

Jimmy - Hiemdall (for afformentioned reasons)

Martyn - Tyr (martin is the Hand to Rendog, Tyr loses his hand to the fenrir wolf)

Rendog - Fenrir wolf

Scar - Loki (he just is okay I cant really explain it)

Grian - Odin (eye themes, omniscience, is the most powerful, complex love hate relationship with loki/scar)

Scott - Frey (god of nature & peace, dies from not having a sword, like how scott refuses to kill)

Joel - Thor (it just fits idk)

Lizzie - Sif (Joels wife, also kinda fits)

BigB - Bragi (god of poetry, bigb is skilled manipulator)

Etho - Ullr (god of hunt, duels, and winter)

Bdubs - Narfi (tricked by odin to turn on brother (impulse))

Cleo - Jormungandr (something about dripping poison into the world feels very on brand for them) (not as an insult) (more as a compliment if anything)

Tango - Mimir (god of inteligence who (depending on the version) dies due to his own actions)

Mumbo - Kvasir (god of innovation and invention)

Skizz - Baldur (hes just a sweet guy who dies too soon)

Impulse - Vali (betrayed by an brother (bdubs) and death lead to "binding" of loki/scar)

Hel (old norse) Hell(e) (old english)

Her name comes from a root meaning, covered or hidden kinda like Hades and Frau Holle, and like a helmet or a helm, which is also the name of the realm which she resides in Helheim (old norse=Hel) also meaning “the grave” or to be put in your grave this land is not a place of punishment like the Christian Hell, it was more of a waiting place where Lady Hel takes in the “unchosen souls of the dead”. Helhiem was believed to be guarded by a giant wolf it’s disputed whether it’s her brother Fenrir or another wolf named Garm, Helheim is in one of the nine realms which is Niflheim, her plate and knife are named “hunger” and “famine”

She is the daughter of Loki and the giantess (or a jötunn) Angrboða; her brothers are Fenrir (Vánagandr or Fenris) and Jörmungandr (Midgard serpent). Some don’t realize the gods and giants aren’t different races but different families and titles as Hel was born of a god/goddess parent she has the title of goddess but she can also be referred to as a giantess.

She appears as half-blue or sometimes some say it translate to black both mean she’s half corpse/rotting and the other half is a flesh colored beautiful woman, she’s known to appear to her followers as either or both if she feels the need to scare you or shock you she may come as her rotting side or if she wants to come off more motherly she may show up as her flesh side, some say she has white or black hair it varies to person.

She also had a 3 legged horse also known as “Hel-horse” a scrawny boney white/yellow horse which in the “prose edda” she brought plague and death

She’s said to lead an army of undead souls into battle during Ragnarok to fight in a valley against the undead warriors of valhalla (Old Norse: Valhǫll) aka the hall of the slain or hall of the corpse.

She appears in Baldrs draumar and the Voluspa in the poetic edda also known as the “Elder edda”.

In Baldrs draumar you see her when she refuses to give Baldrs soul back to the other gods and keeps him in Helheim unless everything in the universe weeps for his “death” (gods in norse mythology don’t “die” they’re reborn in a way) when one giantess refuses to weep Hel keeps Baldr in Helheim till Ragnarok. It was known she treated him fairly and even gave him a seat beside her as a guest of honor in her hall.

Ullr was another god who visited Niflheim often so he often visited Hel in Helheim.

Why she was thrown from Asgard is disputed; some believe it was due to her looks that she made the other gods uncomfy, or that like her brothers the Æsir gods condemned her before she really did wrong leading to a self fulfilling prophecy, or that Odin gifted the hall to her.

Hel is the queen of afterlife and the caretaker of the dead in some sources she was also the main god who made decisions on judgements for who received punishments in Helheim as not all who went to Helheim go as punishment and it was said that Helheim had 2 sides.

Cancer - upg, she’s “the one who hides or is covered”, since Cancer’s animal is the crab, and that is an animal that is covered by its hard shell. Many individuals that work with Lady Hel associate her with being motherly, but also strict. Cancer is the sign of nurturing, and emotions so it makes sense.

As for other zodiac signs, I would consider any zodiac signs near the end of the cycle. The zodiac cycle is associated with the cycle of life and death; so near the end of the cycle is going to be death. This could be signs like Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. There is no historical basis for this, as Norse Paganism didn’t really document or use zodiac signs.

Bill is the short and chaotic prankster of the Boreas cabin! He is very much a problem child, although if you get to know him, he’s a good friend. You can find him either lounging in the Boreas cabin or off across camp doing various mischief

Bill was born in Bergen, Norway. He and his mom moved to Maine when he was 7. He’s also a Legacy (although he doesn’t know that) of Ullr!

I think the best way to explain Marvel Thor's family backstory, with all its retcons, is that Odin and Frigga/Freyja took a break from each other after losing Aldrif. That was when some of Odin's older kids such as Vidar and Ullr were born, and when he wooed both the Phoenix Force and Gaea. Then shortly after Thor's birth circa 1,000,000 BC, they reunited, adopted Loki, and also conceived Balder during a big party. The temporary separation theory could also be used to explain why Hoder is called Balder's brother but also Vili's son instead of Odin's in different Ragnarok cycles -- there's at least one myth where Frigg marries Odin's brothers while Odin is exiled from Asgard, so if Frigga/Freyja had him with Vili while she and Odin were seeing other people (and before Vili and Ve merged their essences into Odin during a battle against Surtur, as per Walt Simonson's run), that would make everything neat and tidy.

Of course Ragnarok has also reset the entire Asgard family, sans Cul and Angela, more than 20 times over the centuries. The exact details of how Frigga/Freyja got married, raised Thor and Loki, and then conceived Balder probably varies with each incarnation, and it's unknown if Odin ever tried to bring Aldrif back into existence during the Ragnarok cycles...

That makes a lot of sense! I can absolutely see that happening.

Still trying to figure out where Tyr and Hermod would fit into this timeline. I hc Tyr as between Angela and Thor in terms of age, and I consider Hermod to be the second youngest of Odin's kids, the youngest being Laussa, of course. I don't think Tyr or Hermod ever had their mothers in the Marvel universe confirmed. Maybe Freyja/Frigga was their mother, though that makes the whole heir thing with Laussa wonky. Of course, what are Marvel comics without inconsistent lore? /lh

In any case, I do think it makes sense that Odin and Freyja took a break from each other following the loss of Aldrif. For multiple reasons that I won't elaborate on rn because it's 1 am and I'm not certain how much longer I'm going to be coherent.

Ra - Would they stalk you? How closely would you be watched while under their care?

Yes, like a ghost more or less. The thing is, he wants you to know that you are being watched. Timo wants you to become jittery and scared, that you feel his eyes following you. Should you not notice him so fast, then he'll help you along a bit. Furniture will be moved around the place you live and things will go missing only to reappear a few days later. Food would be taken out of your fridge and the bed you made in the morning would be rumpled. 

Terrorising you wouldn't be the primary goal in mind here, even though he is a hunter at heart, so don't worry. All of this would be to get to know you better. People only show their true colours in high stress situations, and this would just be one of many ways of cracking all your barriers open. Also, you would be seeking comfort because of the nerve wrecking experience, and he'd be happy to sooth your worries. If he'd go far enough, maybe you'll feel more comfortable in his living space than your own and end up moving to his place. Aside from that, there would be a novelty in the experience of visiting your home both officially and unofficially. 

When you are permanently with him, then matters would be very different. Home is where the heart lies and he wants your heart to lie with him - so, he'll try to make you as comfortable as possible. Though, he'd still watch you closely, and play it off as being besotten. Reflections would be commonly used to watch you discreetly and he'll set up a lot of motion-triggered cameras in the garden. The excuse would be that he likes to watch wild life. 

Ullr - How would they deal with competition? How do they deal with threats in general?

He'd first check how deep their commitment to you goes - asking subtly or not so subtly how they feel about you. Maybe he'll spirit you away for a week or two, a short holiday, and then inquire again. Limerence is intense, but once contact is broken it doesn't last long, so there is the hope a separation will solve the problem. 

If not, then maybe he just has to demonstrate that you are his. A hand on your waist, his jacket on your shoulders, the two of you going arm in arm down the street - all ways of showing you are his. Timo could even arrange for the competition to stumble upon him showing affection to you, be it simple teasing, giving flowers or outright kissing. 

Should all that not work, then he'll encourage you to break that poor fool's heart. If you are so important to them, then surely they will listen to your work. Of course, accidents can always happen, and people go missing constantly. If a bear or a pack of wolves comes to like the taste of that waste of space, then he is not to blame. 

Zelos - How does their jealousy look like?

Timo can be very direct when it comes to his feelings, and would be fast to confront you when it comes to his jealousy. Due to being aware that his feelings for you are very "intense" and him being territorial by nature, he'll want to make sure that no misunderstandings are afoot before acting on his jealousy. 

Though, displays of his jealousy would start small, like keeping you closer in public and doing what he can to absorb most of your attention. Should the green-eyed monster grow bigger and stronger, then he would start getting passive aggressive. This would worsen the longer he is left to stew in his negative feelings. 

It could culminate in him issuing a test of loyalty. Should you pass, then all is well, for the time being. If not, then maybe you need some time alone to reconsider your choices.

I really miss Path of the Valkyrie and Alexandra's writing in general. It sucks so hard that she won't be able to continue her work at RC. I think her writing was getting better and better over time, and while Path of the Valkyrie has some highs and lows, I was fully expecting her next project to be a total banger.

The LIs are probably my favourite aspect of her writing -- in that regard it reminds me a little of Theodora. Just the range of archetypes is impressive, and somehow they are all handed so well. Sagr's romance is a beautiful angsty slowburn which reveals the tender, caring, but deeply wounded man behind a rough exterior. Ullr's path is comforting, like coming back home. Andvari is the soft-spoken pocket-sized bf who is going to treat you like a princess and you can carry him in your arms. Thor is like a force of nature, wild and a little terrifying, and he has an absolutely fascinating set of morals that makes him actually feel kind of non-human. And Loki's path is just something else. You think you have this chaotic trickster all figured out, and the next episode he flips everything on its head.

And I also just want to shout out the female LIs in particular. Nowadays, RC is moving in a better direction in terms of making stories with more diverse casts (books like Heart of Trespia, Hell and High Water, The One, Vying for Versallies, Elite Tag in particular come to mind). But back when Path of the Valkyrie first came out, it was unfortunately the norm across RC stories to treat wlw paths as an after-though (there were occasional wins for the wlws, but it was kind of barren overall). And in contrast Liod and Vanadis paths felt like such a breath of fresh air. I mean Liod is still one of the few masc female LIs on the app. And Vanadis has such a compelling character arc about finding her voice and standing up to those who wronged her after a lifetime of objectification and neglect. They both have their roles in the bigger story and their romances feel just as genuine and authentic as the men's, rather than a side hookup.

I hope they can find a writer who will love those characters as much as Alexandra clearly did, so Path of the Valkyrie can get the ending it deserves. But even then, it's still going to be bittersweet.

You should make some general Thor headcanons since Marvel helped him become a popular god

okie i have some ideas.

i'll be real. marvel is what got me into norse mythology, and i find it super difficult to separate chris hemsworth's Thor from mythology Thor. so my hc's are pretty similar to that portrayal.

personality wise, i think Thor is generally a friendly guy. i mean, i dont think he makes friends as quickly as say, Freyr and Bragi, but deep down, he has a heart of gold and anyone who knows him, knows that this is true.

Thor doesn't really have any filter. he says exactly what he is thinking. he's call things as they are.

i think this makes his relationship with Loki very interesting. marvel has Loki and Thor as brothers, but in myth, that dynamic works better between Loki and Odin instead. so, my hc is that after Odin, i think Thor might interact with Loki the most largely because Loki is a *bit* scared of Thor.

Thor is superrrr strong. maybe the strongest in Asgard after Odin. his lightning is feared by everyone, as it should be. AND he has a temper to match.

with Thor, it's a short temper, but quicker placation. you can easily defuse his anger by apologising, or telling a joke, or acknowledging the situation. i don't think he holds on to troubles. so that's why with Loki, who perpetually sets everyone off, Thor tolerates Loki a lot because he just doesn't get angry for a long time. and once Loki has served his punishment for the crime of the day, Thor is satisfied... UNTIL of course Baldr's death which is simply too tragic to deserve any redemption.

now. as it has been said before, Thor isn't that smart. i think he's a bit all brawn and no brains. and that's ok. Asgard wouldn't want it any other way.

Sif is the love of Thor's life. i think he's always showering her with compliments and gifts.

i find it SUPER interesting that Sif has a son (Ullr) who is not fathered by Thor, while Thor has children Magni and Modi who are not mothered by Sif.

in all likelihood, Magni and Modi are products of extramarital affairs but i'm sick of having to write about gods and goddesses who cheat, so i hc that Magni and Modi, like Ullr, are products of previous marriages.

being warriors, and gods who are susceptible to death, it's completely possible that Thor and Sif's previous spouses/partners fell in battle... or perhaps even simply that they amicably left those partners because the relationship didn't work. idk,, i haven't thought about those details too hard just yet.

Sif has a GREAT relationship with her stepsons, and Thor has a GREAT relationship with his stepson.

i like the idea of Ullr being the eldest son. and i think he has gotten along with Thor from the start. Thor seems like a guy who wants a huge family, so having four kids i think is pretty good and natural for him.

Thor is a dad-joke kinda guy. and he also laughs at absolutely anything.

as i have mentioned before in my hc's with Frigg,, i believe Thor gets along with his stepmum very well. i think he has a lot of respect for hierarchy and power, and being a stepdad himself, i cannot imagine that he has a bone to pick with Frigg. it helps that Thor's own mother Jörð is treated well by Frigg and looked after by Odin too.

with Odin, i don't think Thor is that close. i hc Odin to spend a bit more time with the children of his who will take up important roles in his kingdom; for example, Baldr who is his heir, or Tyr and Freyja who would take charge of defense and war strategies, etc.

because Thor isn't all that bright, i don't think he that much responsibility in terms of organisation or management... he is simply a powerhouse who lends his aid when it's requested.

that's not to say that Thor and Odin don't like each other. they just have a different relationship. they are similar in terms of their personality, and i think Odin definitely would have given Thor instruction in the art of war, etc.

anyhow. amongst the rest of the gods, Thor gets along very well with Bragi. Thor loves music a lot, even if he sings offkey when drunk (which is most of the time).

he also enjoys spending time with Heimdallr. i think Heimdallr would tell Thor stories when he was a child that Thor later still recalls to tell his own children (Heimdallr is the eldest child).

strangely enough, i think Thor is one of the few gods who manages to break the ice (haha) with Skadi when she first comes to Asgard. because she's a hothead and Thor's a hothead and they're both super strong, i think they can go toe-to-toe with each other.

outta curiosity, how did skadi become the vessel of ymir?

Also, what is their bond like beyond that? Is it like narinderand lamb, where ymir had plans he was hoping to carry out through skadi, and skadi didn’t have a say in the matter? Or is ymir more of a gentle giant who skadi just happened across and willingly wanted to help?

Oooh, good questionnnn... There's actually a little bit of story to this one. Skadi, when she was little, was really close friends with Estrid (Ullr's little sister). She admired her a lot and shared her love for helping animals and such. So when Estrid passed away, Skadi figured that in memory of her closest friend that she would treat everyone with the same kindness that Estrid showed her and the animals around them. Thus, Skadi dedicated most of her early life to helping others to the best of her ability. Whether it be a old man who needs help starting a fire or a little bird with a hurt leg, she was there to help in anyway she could. This got the attention of Ymir - a very gentle fella. He was in need of a vessel for a while to help keep things in check with a whole 'nother situation and found all of his ideal traits in Skadi. Soooo, only natural that she's chosen to be a vessel!
