i read a fic yesterday (return of the king) where Steve swapped with Eddie at the last second at the end of s4 and ended up being the one who died and had to be left behind and then he came back as a vampire and it just got my brain TICKING.

So role-reversal AU where steve is the one who comes back basically kas-ified as is the common trope with eddie, but where eddie goes to steve, steve goes to robin.

lets say, for funsies, that they managed to kill vecna and max only ended up hospitalised for a broken elbow and a twisted ankle (from falling on it), so everyone has the time and space to grieve.

Steve’s death hits Robin the hardest because he was her person. He was her i-wish-we-could-just-merge-into-one-being. Her ride or die. Her soulmate. And he’d been taken from her, torn apart and left to rot in the very world he’d tried so hard to protect her from. 

The others give her space to let her mourn quietly in her bedroom, dressed in steve’s clothes and listening to his music like if she just tried hard enough she could still merge them together and let him use her lungs to breathe, her heart to pump his blood, her head to share his thoughts. that she could single handedly go from a me to a we.

And then, one day, Robin starts acting weird. She doesn’t know the Wheeler’s phone number and on her way to find it in the phone book, she found the Munson’s first, and when Eddie picks up it’s too a very chipper Robin asking for a lift to the shops where she proceeds to buy an alarming amount of red meat and refuses to answer any questions.

And she’s just- happy. She’s weird and happy and keeps calling Eddie to ask him about Dungeons and Dragons lore and if he can take her to the library or to the butcher and if he can let her borrow his jumper please? I get cold easily. And then she just keeps stealing clothes, from everyone. Sometimes she asks, sometimes she’ll just take a jacket off of the back of a chair and act like nothing happened, sometimes she just sneaks off to go rooting through washing baskets.

Then comes the day she invites Eddie over, probably a week or so after her initial journey into Weird-Ville, nervously rambling about nothing right up until she closes the front door behind them and runs into Eddie’s back because Eddie’s just spotted Steve-fucking-Harrington peering at him from around the corner. 

Apparently, a not-exactly-dead-anymore Steve crawled through Robin’s window one night and has since taken up residence underneath her bed. 

“He was kinda- not all there, at first.” She tells him, chopping a steak into cubes and dropping them into a blender. Steve, winged and fanged and tailed, leans against the counter and watches her with sleepy eyes. “But we’ve been working on it.”

After the initial pants-shitting shock of having her dead best friend re-appear as a creature of the upside down, Robin had simply accepted it and moved on. Happy to have Steve back no matter what it looked like. 

And what it looked like was blending raw meat, and reading together in the bathroom to bring back his ability to talk, and stealing clothes for the veritable nest Steve was building in her closet. The next step in her plan to re-domesticate her best friend, had been to introduce him to another person: Eddie, evidently. 

Steve promptly spends 5 minutes being a feral little creature, scenting Eddie within an inch of his life like he’d done to Robin, and then attempting to plant him in his nest like a little ornament. 

Just. idk. feral kas!steve seeking out robin for safety, who slowly re-introduces him to his humanity and then his future boyfriend.

Sabine gives him a knowing smile. “Han, be honest. Are you just looking for advice on how to date a girl who’s cooler than you?”

“No!” he lies, holding up his hands. “I’m curious! I mean, Bridger seems like a nice guy, but… he’s one of those wizards, and from what I’ve heard, your people don’t exactly get along with them.”

Sabine is quiet for a minute, apparently reminiscing.

Finally, she speaks.

“So, Ezra has always liked me. He was almost fifteen when we met, and he was—” She laughs to herself. “He was such a flirt. Cocky, full of himself, overconfident… but he was sweet. Sometimes he was even funny.”

Han gets the feeling she might be fonder of the Jedi in hindsight than she actually was at the time, but he doesn’t interrupt her to point it out.

“We became friends, after a while,” Sabine continues sentimentally. “Best friends. And then some of Ezra’s friends bet him money that he wouldn’t ask me out, and more money that I wouldn’t say yes. So… Ezra and I decided to swindle them.”

Han sits up a little straighter. “Swindle? Antilles and Klivian said—”

“Wedge and Hobbie don’t know,” Sabine cuts him off, grinning. “They think we actually went on a date. And then… to avoid other people constantly asking us out, we kept fake dating. It was our big secret. Our bit.”

“Then, what?” Han asks. “Don’t tell me getting married was fake, too!”

“Yeah, but just for a couple months. But I couldn’t hide my feelings for him anymore, and so I ‘fessed up. And… the rest is history.” She brushes a strand of her hair out of her face and smiles. “You know, I could probably get the girls to bet Leia won’t ask you out, if you wanna give it a try—”

“Who says this is about Leia?” Han demands, bristling.

Sabine just smirks. “It’s nice to see someone who’s worse than me at lying about their feelings.”

“Hey!”

Okay I can't find the post anymore, but a little while ago there was a poll about what animal coding Han Sooyoung had, and only four people said dragon, and yes I get it an aquatic animal, fits into the trio. And hsy is almost always figuratively knocking shit off counters, so cat works too... but have you considered i will die on this hill

So this all starts with one part in orv that has always been a sticking point for me: why is hsy's constellation ABFD?

It always seemed weird to me because kdj and yjh have both never had sponsors that were not part of the trio, and in a complete parallel kdj and hsy were both constellations who both had yjh as their incarnation (reader and writer only able to communicate through a character). So all this works... but where the hell does ABFD come in? To be honest, it makes more sense for 1864 hsy to be sponsored by secretive plotter, it ties the trio even closer thematically and even makes sense considering the contract that the two of them make in the early scenarios. So why ABFD?

The easiest answer is that it's meant to draw parallels between kdj and hsy, with both of them having similarities to Kim Namwoon, and at times acting as a villain or antagonist to the narrative. The other meta explanation is that if hsy had a strange sponsor or no sponsor at all, it would clue the audience in, that hsy is just as distinctly important to the world as kdj and yjh... and make it harder to convince the reader that she "totally didn't" write twsa. But there are easier ways to draw parallels that aren't as core to the story, and why of all constellations was abyssal black flame dragon chosen?

Because hsy, herself, is a Dragon...

Dragons are important to ORV, the most destructive thing within the star stream, and in some ways the only thing that could kill yjh, so what does it mean to be a dragon?

This conversation with the apocalypse dragon is the only real time that dragons as a thematic are brought up, and on the re-read, damn do most of these descriptors sound like hsy, or at least the perception, at this point, of the twsa author. The author is viewed as "the origin of evil" in ORV, they're the person who has made each of the scenarios and has caused all suffering in the characters lives. Hsy, similarly, when we first meet her is a villain, using the apostles to directly control canon and attack kdj as well as our whole primary cast.

However after hsy is revealed as the author of the novel and her story is told, we learn that she "was chained to restrictions" giving her only a few hours a day to be in control of her body and it was during this time that she was "the scenario's target of submission" made to make the scenarios, yes to save kdj, but also because she had always made them, without them already existing she could never have gone back to create them in the first place, but she is never given the chance to exist in the main story beyond this role. Before the end of the story, she is mainly seen by the narrative as either a villain, or someone forced to suffer (50 yrs later). Yjh is the protagonist of twsa. Kdj is the protagonist of ORV. As for hsy?

One of the most classical concepts in storytelling is that of a Hero, Damsel, and a Dragon.

The Hero embarks on a perilous journey to save the Damsel from imprisonment,

The Damsel is stuck alone and far away from those she loves,

The Dragon guards the Damsel to the point that she is trapped away from others.

These roles are even referenced in one of hsy and kdj's first conversations:

Kdj is not the Hero,

he's the Damsel.

Hsy is not the Damsel,

she's the Dragon.

Gundam Wing: Baby, it’s cold outside

[The boys are hanging around in their safehouse on a chilly midwinter day.  Quatre is curled up on the couch, rubbing his arms.]

TROWA  Is it too cold for you?

HEERO  *flashing back to similar incident playing out the exact same way between Relena and himself*  ...What.  What are you talking about?  Relena said the same thing to me the other day.  She was happy with a blanket.

DUO  Yeah, sure she was. 🙄

QUATRE  *head poking out of a pile of blankets*  ...This is...nice.  Toasty.  Um.  Are you cold at all?  We could share...

TROWA  No, I’m fine.  I grew up with Eastern European winters; this is nothing for me.

Turned in my final paper recently, it's the longest thing i've ever written (but still quite short and of terrible quality compared to my classmates'). The faculty will probably beat me over the head with it until i perish this wednesday

Meanwhile, here's a fishprint:

And by “fishprint” i mean a literal bodyprint of a fish, produced by covering a fish in ink and pressing a sheet of paper to it. This Japanese art is called gyotaku (魚拓) and it apparently first emerged during the Tokugawa period as a method of documenting the size of of fishers’ trophies.

The picture above is said to be the oldest existing one, but the art has since evolved to include greater detail and even colour.

A print of a red sea bream by Takusei-kai (拓正会), one of Japan’s many societies dedicated to keeping up the traditional art. Check out their website for more pictures!

Besties the slots are filled? It's been like 6 hours?? Have some self control, dear GOD- Anyway. Clearly the demand is there. If the way I write doesn't cause physical pain, which I HOPE NOT?? I see no reason why we can't do this again. I've decided my mental health and energy levels don't matter anymore btw, in case anyone was wondering.

I need to express how I love the fact that you never miss the opportunity of making Azula and Sokka very into extremely nerdy computer games in as many AUs as you can. It even made me interested in playing dragon age or hades (yes, because of that band au you wrote for sokkla saturdays and IHTBY. I also like the dragon age au you wrote, though in this one they were actual characters of that world instead of two nerds)

Hahaha, yeah... well, it's because they're nerds! It's canon! xDDDDDD At least, I can't help but see them that way. IHTBY is a hilarious AU where basically everyone's nerdy as hell, Azula had to be a nerd in secret, but now she no longer hides it. Ty Lee and Mai may be the only exceptions, but by now it's only a matter of time before they, too, are recruited into the nerd legions (?)

The online gaming angle really fit with IHTBY because of the original prompts were "meeting online" and "high school AU", both of which I had no idea how to combine organically until that whole idea came to mind. Sometimes the least likely prompts are the ones that do the trick xD but yeah, since it was a "meeting online" situation, I couldn't help but think about how that meeting would come about, and my occasional dabbling in suuuuper old and defunct MMORPGs supplied the answer. The game they play in IHTBY, Dannan, is actually based on the setting of an original story of mine that I haven't really found a way to fully articulate and that I'd probably need to massively rework... but the worldbuilding and concepts I had for it were a decent concept for the MMORPG I needed so, since I very much knew nothing about active MMORPGs at the time I was writing IHTBY, I just made up my own game and that's why they're not playing WoW or Genshin Impact or FFXIV (okay the last two would have been impossible considering how new they are x'D).

As for Hades... I'm still having Hades brainrot to this day x'D finished what may have been my most perfect run in it only yesterday, WITH ROCKET BOMB! (Eris Rail cluster rockets+Zeus legendary+Scintillating Ice Wine cast+Artemis legendary, the RNG gods smiled upon me with that build x'D). If I ever continue the band AU in a distant future, I hope that Melinoe's new adventures in Hades II will serve them as inspiration for making more music...

And in DA... I guess I just made them nerds in-story anyway x'D even if they're IN the game, so to speak, they're still nerdy in some ways. It's a constant, really. These two strategy-driven dorks can't help but thrive in learning new things, acquiring new talents, seeing more of whatever world they're in... I just love them and their inherent nerdiness. It's just one more level in which I'm sure they'd understand each other perfectly <3
