B'Elanna, Neelix, Tuvok and Chakotay needed to star in an episode where they just talked about their different beliefs and approaches to spirituality/religion. Paired off and all together. I need to gain more insight. I need characterization and I need it to be messy.

the tf2 fandom on tumblr is in such dire straits, it wraps around from being annoying to being funny
no one knows anything about the time period it's set in. no one knows anything about the time period it was written in. no one knows the media genre it's parodying. no one knows how to write mostly-middleaged, mostly-white men who are intentionally and comedically a product of their time and individual cultures. no one seems to even realize each character is hugely informed by (the stereotyped version of) their culture. no one is comfortable engaging with the old war propaganda it's satirizing. no one knows anything about guns. some people actually think the sniper is 26
it's hard to watch, but then again the official comics post-2015 fall into every single one of these pitfalls too so like. maybe a lack of media literacy isn't just a fandom problem

listen. harry brewis isn't exempt to criticism. however I think it's very ironic and telling how much people have been missing the very point of his video on plagiarism and turned his name on a new topic to exploit as of late.
when i was trying to look up clips of harry's older videos this came up, and the contents were about the creator clearly being disapointed her line of work (drama youtube) was disregarded as sloppy and something with no effort put into it.
while I do understand her hurt, the thumbnail and title is inherently clickbaiting potential viewers, and her point comes off as a nitpick of a segment harry made out of his own frustration with content mills and how much situations on or between content creators can be so throughly exploited for "commentary" when people don't end up saying anything at all.
I think that this is a prime example of the things harry deemed important to criticise. someone who clearly had a point to make about harry's video felt the need to make sure they could milk the shit out of it.

What I would like fandoms to be aware of is that there is a difference between erasing a character's "bad" traits like violence and cruelty in order to make them nicer and more palatable vs acknowledging that bad people are still people with complex emotions and personal relationships and traits beyond just "evil"

I think some folks MAY have gotten the wrong idea about how I feel about Circe with some of my posts. So, to clear the air...
Homies, I love that fucked up sorceress.
I love how we're never given a reason why she turns people into animals. That's so funny and so awful. And another potion-making magic gal?!?! I love that she's just basically vibing on an island doing whatever she wants. I even love the fact that she scares Odysseus shitless! She's morally gray and that's why she's FUN.
I just sincerely hate when people try to girlboss her or have her be a victim of SA when she never was Looking at you, Miller. Especially when she was actually the one who coerced Odysseus in exchange for his men being transformed back into humans. And even then, while he was clearly afraid of her, (it's in the language of the Odyssey) she likely meant him no harm after a certain point. He just didn't know that.
Why does she need a reason to do awful things? Why can't she just be a goddess who does whatever she wants? That's the reason why I love her!!! She's fucked up!!! :D
I hate what the Telegony did to her as well! >:( You're telling me, this sorceress goddess, who makes potions (!!!) wouldn't have magic contraceptives??? Would WANT CHILDREN?!?! WITH THE PATHETIC WIFEMAN?! No. Fuck no. Eugammon of Cyrene, I have beef with you 🤬
Anyways!!! Understand all the "#anti circe" I have is simply Anti "Girlboss Circe" or the book. I genuinely think she's neat af as her morally gray, fucked up sorceress self and just get frustrated with...everything :'D

I feel like it's just me who thinks that Stolas looking up the Asmodean crystals for Blitz isn't necessarily for a break up (mainly cause that part already happened,) but more as a peace offering to help start a friendship, so they can hopefully start to have one that isn't built on dependency or deception
Stolas is gonna give it to Blitz to show Blitz that he wants him to have his own independence, and not rely on him for the book just to do his job. I think he just wants to ultimately know if there was anything genuine that came from Blitz in all of this, and the best way for Stolas to do that is to give Blitz a gift in good faith that allows him to do his job, without needing Stolas to do it.

I think something Only Friends manages to do really well is showing without telling - not necessarily in terms of plot, but in the sense of what the characters are thinking, what they're feeling. The series as a whole is about actions (about sex, about relationships, about addiction), and what's really fascinating is that for the most part we're left to extrapolate and make guesses on the internal processes of these characters. For example, we see that Nick likes Boston - but we don't know what he's thinking when he masturbates to his picture, or when he takes the selfie. So much of the characters' motives and thoughts are left for the viewer to decipher and understand without spelling it out - which I love, because it feels very realistic. We don't get to see what other people are usually thinking in our day to day lives, and this aspect makes Only Friends feel that much more raw.
I'm sure later on we'll be given more definite answers, but for now I'm having fun.

hey y'all! this isn't really a formal ~announcement~ so much as it is something i just wanted to express so i would stop feeling like i was somehow keeping it a secret
i've been having trouble with motivation re: ttdl, and i have been for a while now. i don't know when that'll change. it's not a matter of not knowing what comes next - it's the process of actually putting it down on the page that's been difficult for me. so i'm not sure when i'll be able to update it again.
i don't intend to abandon it, but i also need to give myself the freedom to work on what comes to me in the moment, instead of turning ttdl-being-unfinished into a weapon that i use to beat myself up whenever i have another idea i want to write. that would be a surefire way to make me never want to work on it again
so, instead, i'm going to think of it as letting ttdl rest. it's been a long journey to get here, and it's time to pause and recuperate. thank you so much to everyone who's been a part of this process so far - i appreciate you more than i can say!
as always, thanks for reading!!
-love, birl<3

i love & live for your nailposting so i have to ask — do you have any tips on cuticle care??? i find that mine grow SUPER quickly and i constantly have to trim them back with cuticle clippers but i feel like they never…. Look Nice™️.
first of all THANK YOU and the 10 other ppl who like my nailposting. second, it's hard to give specific tips w/o knowing anything about your Bod, but general tips that are always applicable are just like.
push them back frequently, esp when they're soft like right after your hands have gotten wet, or you've moisturized.
also def recommend using a cuticle oil every once in awhile, daily if possible! you can homebrew a cuticle oil by just using jojoba and vitamin E, if you wanna be a little cheap abt it and/or you're sensitive to fragrances, Like Moi. (premade cuticle oil is generally Scented.)
using cuticle nippers and trimming them is sick and I also do it every once in awhile, but keeping them Pushed Back and Not Dry is the first line of defense, I think! if you're snipping really often, though, it can actually make the regrowth a little Worse.
edit: I ALMOST FORGOT about doing cuticle cleanup with a dissolvent. they make lots of kinds, I have a sally hansen one, it comes in a little blue bottle. For the dead skin that's actually climbing up the nail plate and sticking to it, you'd apply this stuff for a minute or so, and then scrape off the (newly softened) dead skin with a little orangewood stick/cuticle pusher.

I just saw someone say that $35 per second of animation was normal, and I am appalled. As someone who works in animation, no it is not. That is practically free labor. For freelance, ranges of $100-$200 per second are more normal (freelance can be tricky because you have to judge your worth vs how much budget a project has etc etc etc), though it is always better to try and get a job that pays you hourly. Unfortunately, the industry is in a dark place atm. Very little jobs available and tons of layoffs. I can understand someone taking a job that offers so little. However, we should always be fighting for better conditions. Better pay, better hours, all of that, even with indie. If you want a project to have old Disney levels of animation, then you better be willing to pay the price. Else, learn more about limited animation and how that can tell a story with a small budget.

i still have so many questions about the ff7 remake story. why did aerith even have knowledge of the future in remake to begin with? from a watsonion perspective, why does she lose that knowledge after the end of remake when sephiroth doesn't? (i'm fully aware the doylist reason is that having a character who knows the future would totally break the plot but i'm still curious if there's more to what they were doing with aerith's remake character or if this is it). what was her motivation to encourage the party to fight the whispers in the original game when she knew the party would defeat sephiroth in the end if events followed fate? was it simply that she wanted the chance to live? because that makes me want to lie down and cry!!!!

I'm doing this thing where I actually read the content of articles and not just the headlines and I've been seeing many news outlets talking about how Jonathan Majors has been fired from Marvel Studios but they're not adding any reliable source??? How come?
________________________________________
____________________________________________
This isn't really about Jonathan Majors but more about how journalists and news outlet will run a story based on another article and won't even bother making their own investigations beforehand and even worse, sometimes they won't even bother reading the content of the articles they are quoting.
I couldn't care less about him being fired from Marvel but so far the only source for that information is an unnamed "studio rep" or a person "close to the studio".
Is this how we get information now? Just rumors, no official statements and news articles not even trying to get information from an official source??
