hey, sorry if you’ve answered this before, but I am really struggling to find horror analysis yt channels that aren’t just “this is what happens in the movie and btw it’s about [generic one-word theme that is never elaborated on]”. Do you have any that you particularly like?

oh hmm well i like scaredy cats. they talk about a lot of movies i havent seen and probably wouldnt seek out on my own which i consider a plus. altho right now theyre doing a series of episode recaps for a canadian vampire police procedural so maybe not the best time to jump in if youre hoping for like newer stuff. good time to get familiar with their older videos tho i guess! or a good time to watch them talk about canadian vampire cops if youre into that!

i also am a rly big fan of nyx fears for particular more extreme horror stuff but i believe shes focusing on her music and writing rn. so again good time to catch up on her older stuff!

other than that jacob geller is excellent and has a lot of horror videogame analyses but i feel like everyone knows that. ragnarrox is also great for especially older and more overlooked horror games. night mind specifically talks about arg and horror unfiction projects but if thats something ur interested in at all you cant get much better than his videos imo.

and recently ive started watching acolytes of horror! i havent seen a lot of his stuff yet but i thought his video about so-called political horror that fears taking any actual political stance was really good and well articulated and helped me pinpoint why a lot of movies of that sort of subgenre really miss the mark for me.

ive looked through your 2023 watched stuff but ive been wondering if youve said anywhere what your favourite animes of all time are ? just curious cus i want more reccs

ooh good question! i am so indecisive and so full of love for so many series that it's always been a bit of a struggle to pick out just a few absolute faves, but here are the first few that come to mind

(i'll try to keep to shorter series here)

and standard disclaimer that everything here is my opinion and my opinion only

best anime of all time: shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu, and for me nothing even comes close

the story is told over the course of two seasons (the second being shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu: sukeroku futabi-hen; 25 episodes total) and it is imo just an absolute masterpiece. it's a somber tale, but executed in such a masterful way. the show is centered around rakugo and rakugo performers, and felt to me like not only an incredible story but an incredible performance of the art of storytelling

i don't rewatch this one very often because it makes me so sad, but i think it's a beautiful and worthwhile sort of sadness to experience

best sports anime of all time: kaze ga tsuyoku fuiteiru (23 episodes), and once again nothing even comes close. which means a lot coming from me because i love sports anime i will watch any sports anime i love good ones i love bad ones i love them unconditionally i'm like sports anime georg so 'best sports anime' is maybe even a more significant crown than 'best anime' coming from me lmao

ahem anyway in terms of objective quality there's just nothing that beats kazetsuyo, and i highly recommend it even as a character-centric piece for people who aren't generally into sports anime. it's just that good

side note 1: while i would call kazetsuyo the 'best' sports anime, my personal favorite is eternally kurobas (though it is on the longer side)

side note 2: honorary mention to megalo box, another of my all-time favorites. it's sports + sci-fi so i typically don't count it solely as a sports anime, but i love it to bits. there is a second season that i haven't even seen yet! i've always heard the second season is even better than the first, so i've been saving it for a special day (also i'm a bit scared of it because i was so happy with the ending of the first season that i'm kinda like resistant to change lol)

best anime i can't tell you anything about: so generally i'm of the belief that spoilers don't ruin much for me, if something is done well then it's done well even if i know it's coming. that said, there are a handful of series where i am so glad i went in knowing nothing, so that every twist and turn caught me completely unawares

and the top two i would recommend in this category are samurai flamenco (22 episodes) and sarazanmai (11 episodes)

definitely do look up trigger warnings if you've a need for them! but otherwise, going in knowing nothing really heightened the experience of these for me

they are... strange, and amazing

this is getting long so i'll just dump a bunch of favorites in a list below (some are Great, some are decidedly Not Great but Very Fun and beloved to me lol, and all are 25 episodes or less)

1. What’s your favorite time of day?

Night. At night, my little ones are asleep and I am free lol. I’m also a night owl. I like the feeling of being alone and awake when most everyone else is asleep.

2. What’s your favorite smell?

My husband. I’m trash for him I love him so much. We’ve also been away from home and from each other for like twelve days so I’m...wah. We’ll both be back home tomorrow and I can’t wait.

3. What’s the best dream you’ve had? the worst?

Well I never seem to remember good dreams lol. My worst dreams are probably associated with losing or neglecting my children. I had a dream once that my husband’s entire family and I were vacationing in a huge old farmhouse in the middle of a cornfield. All the kids were outside playing, and when they came in for dinner, my 4yo son was not among them. I kept asking if anyone had seen Sam, but no one had, and worst of all, no one seemed to care that he was missing. They just kept telling me he’d turn up. But I remember in the dream, standing by the backdoor, looking out upon the vast, post-harvest cornfield all alone and feeling the most helpless and afraid I’ve ever felt.

4. What is the strangest thing you remember someone has said to you?

I’m not sure. People often used to tell me that I remind them of Kristen Stewart. I thought that was strange.

5. What is your favorite thing you’ve overheard from a conversation?

I like overhearing bros talking about bro things. Like the other day I was pushing my baby in her carriage and was walking behind some college boys on their way to a rec basketball game. I work at a university and live nearby. The boys were probably 19 and were all like, “If we keep practicing, we’ll improve, and we’ll start winning again,” and also like, “Totally. I also think smoking is bad for my game so I’m gonna stop till the end of the season,” and like, “Good thinking, bro,” and “For sure, bro,” etc. etc. It was SO VAPID but SO WHOLESOME I almost died. 

6. Fav viddy game?

I really REALLY love Red Dead Redemption 2 and it’s a close second, but at the end of the day my favorite game will probably always be The Last of Us.

7. What character would you love to hang out with the most? (can be from movie, game, tv series, book etc)

I recently just bought A Plague Tale: Innocence and also the season pass for Life is Strange 2. I’m really really looking forward to playing both! At some point! If I can ever manage to tear my ass away from a certain depressed cowboy mentioned in #7! :)

9. Which do you prefer? A day at the beach, walk in the forest, day out on the town, or getting cozy staying at home?

Getting cozy at home! I am a cave woman. I hate leaving my cave lol. Though I do love a day on the town, just not with the kids. If it’s just me and the hubs, then a day on the town is super fun.

10. Describe the outfit you feel the most you in.

Probably a baggy t-shirt and shorts, with a pair of birks. I am not fancy. I am kind of just a tomboy with very long hair.

11. When’s the last time someone complimented you?

After you have a baby all anyone does is compliment you for a year. It’s affirming, considering what you’ve been through lol. So probably sometime in the past week, someone has told me, “You look great! Oh my god!” Lol.

Do you have any drama that everyone loves but you think it’s overrated? The Reply Series and Dream High - i couldn’t get into either, but people love them lols

Who is your favourite bromance couple and why? Grims & Goblin idk i just feel like it was such a nicely developed friendship and esp w/ their background, and then the angst and the way they just missed each other - i feel like that kind of bromance doesn’t really get shown in kdramas?

If you could live in the universe of any drama, which would it be?honestly, none of them haha, idk my life just seems so calm and enjoyable in comparison to kdramas, i dont think i’d swap it lols

What is your favourite kdrama and why?My all time fave is Healer - i just loved everything, the plot, the characters, the romance, the way it was filmed, the comedy aspect, like the only thing i’d change, would be adding more women

Do you have any drama that everyone hates but you love it? Uncontrollably Fond has so much criticism but i absolutely adored it 

What drama should have a second season? usually i dont like the idea of s2′s for kdramas since everything gets wrapped up and it would just drag buuut  i’m still going crazy over the Gu Family Book ending, where Gun and the other guy show up at Kang Chi’s home in the future and i’m just like what is happening ??!!! and then he meets Yeo Wool again and i’m just like I NEED S2 RIGHT NOW!
