looking at fnaf lore and writing my sun and moon ramblings when i noticed that not only do those weeping angel glamrock endos in security breach have that one large room with the moon plush on the security desk,,but that same area seen in help wanted 2 also has the plush and the matching tile minigame with superstar daycare attendant branding on it,,,,,,same room with this on the wall of the original game btw

Who's your favourite Dicey Dungeons contestant?

Robot! It embodies Dicey Dungeons at its best.

Writing-wise, Robot really struck a chord with me when I first played the game ('oh wow who could've seen that coming from the guy that wrote-' shhhhhh). All of the protagonists in this game have some sort of message attached to them: a sort of comment on how their mindsets clash with their actual fate-

-hey did anyone see that? i'm sure it was nothing. Anyways, they're all surprisingly relevant to modern life despite the game's fantastical design, but Robot's really is the most unique and effective of them: you have limits, and you can't win them all.

Growing up, there was a very real pressure for me to be 'productive' as a kid as a result of my rocky upbringing and undiagnosed neurodivergency. I always had the idea in my head that if I just worked Betterer and Harder and Always, things would eventually reach an equilibrium point and I would never have to worry about anything again. You wouldn't be looked at as a weirdo because you'd be so good at your thing everyone would have to accept you! You wouldn't have any mortal problems anymore! You wouldn't ever have to make decisions in your life because you could simply attempt everything, with no consequences. Ever.

Also there was like, a huge glut of self-help and grindset culture being pushed in the mid 2010's. I don't know if you remember when 'I'm good at multi-tasking' was the hot new thing to put on CVs (until studies discovered it was actually worse), and how there were 100 TedTalks on how to stop procrastinating, but it was so fucking prevalent even in secondary schools back then. And also it was religious propaganda.

This wasn't really investigated much until the end of the decade, where a lot of peoples' fascination with tech wore off, and it became clear capitalism was the problem. We all know now that people work better when they have time to clear their minds, and it's kind of insane to spend your one life grinding out work.

So the fact that a kids' game managed to tackle this subject better than entire sectors of the publshing industry -- by making one kind of nutty but lovable character (who turned down immortality for not missing out on work) -- is just fantastic.

And everything in Robot's gameplay is made to suit this goal. It isn't that hard to master, as you've said in the past: you just need to know when's a good time to stop, and what best works with your build. You're in control of your gains and your losses; you can handle probability better than you think you can, if you're just willing to meet her where she stands. I think that's the core philosophy of Dicey Dungeons' design, and Robot constantly getting unique mechanics being based off classic games of chance like Blackjack and coin flips really emphasises that. You really get the sense that the dev had this idea polished right down to the last detail.

Also I just love how you usually have a full 6 pieces of equipment with Robot compared to like 3-5 with the others. You get a lot of room to explore different synergies. It's very hard to optimise your slots fully, and you end up with a couple of boring (but also potentially life-saving) redundancies.

And on a more subjective note, Robot just feels like it has the most personalised design of the main characters? It would've been so easy to lean into 'beep boop', or base another archetype off D&D, or make shallow nods at the concept of 'humanity' for a robot character, but no! Robot's fun! And a try-hard finance kid! And adorable! You get to see all of Marlowe Dobbe's cool theming with her art, Holly Gramazio's witty but reflective writing style, and Terry Cavanagh's hilarious equipment names and past as an actuary, all in one character!

Also it's autistic and uses it/its and that's so mecore

Warrior: honestly he loves any sweet ever. But nothing beats his momma’s homemade brownies <3

Thief: he is one picky mfer, there’s def some hyper specific dessert type dish he loves and only eats one specific way. Something with lemon meringue on it perhaps, since it’s very difficult to get that just right. Or macarons! Also very hard to make. Tbh the culinary/bakery skill payoff is honestly more of a reward than the sweetness for him :]

Robot: they’re not huge on sweets, but there’s never a bad time for a nice big bar of dark chocolate :3 they LOVE fruits tho, they make snacks of them regularly! Pre dungeons they were particularly fond of apples. Post dungeons they reach for pears.

Inventor: she’d live off chocolate milk if she could HDJJDK, honestly she’d love to make a monstrous ice cream sundae!!! Or whatever tf u wanna call the spaghetti sugar gingerbread sprinkles candy befuckery dish they make from the movie elf. She’d eat that gladly

Witch: she is a SUCKER for shakes!!! Cake too! Many cute things to decorate em with, and many cute designs of cakes to make! She likes strawberry flavors the best :>

Beast: now this one is a bit tricky… she hasn’t gotten to try a lot of different desserts… maybe chocolate ice cream nd cookie and/or brownie batter cuz those r my favorites!!! Or just lucky charms. I know those don’t technically count but the image of her absolutely RABIDLY fucking up a box of cereal is too funny not to share HDJJKS

Her favorite time of day would be dawn/dusk, though. Peaceful. Everything is either waking up or going to bed. The sun makes the sky pretty colors. The air tastes different, but good. It's really not all that surprising that the Daycare Attendant ended up being so popular, to the point that there's a whole subsection of FNAF fandom that's p much just the DCA.

For starters, there's Security Breach itself. Security Breach is a vastly different FNAF game from its predecessors. Instead of being a jumpscare-driven task management simulator, it is a free-roam exploration and puzzle game, also with jumpscares. Instead of a security guard with their butt glued to their office chair, you're playing as a kid trapped in the mall. That difference in format and story setup attracted a whole new crowd of players to FNAF.

Next is character design. Unlike the majority of animatronics in the killer robot furry franchise, the DCA is a lanky, vaguely human shaped jester with a dinnerplate head and a creepy fixed smile. That appeals to folks who might not be as much into the robot furries, but like lanky creepy jesters (I am one of those people).

Security Breach also FINALLY develops the animatronics into actual characters, rather than interchangeable jumpscares. It's not a coincidence that prior to SB, the most popular animatronic was Springtrap-- an animatronic outright possessed by the defacto main antagonist of the series. I still remember the sheer fuzzy excitement upon hearing the first teaser trailer where we found out that we would be playing as a kid and that Freddy was our friend. That's still so cool! Freddy is our friend!

But character is where the Daycare Attendant really blows everyone else out of the water.

Sun is, after Freddy and Vanessa, the NPC with the most lines of dialogue (ten). Sun and Vanessa are the only antagonists that speak directly to Gregory, rather than just having vague hunting lines. For comparison, of the Glamrocks only Roxy has a single line of interaction with another animatronic ("Get out of my room, Freddy!") and her pep talk in the mirror at the start of the game. Monty and Chica might as well be interchangeable, both only having hunting lines.

Hell, out of Moon's nineteen voice lines, eight of them are laughs, blowing away Vanny's whopping two lines in the entire game.

Sun is the only* FNAF antagonist that does not have a jumpscare sting when he grabs Gregory, and is one of the few antagonists that does not kill the player upon jumpscaring them. Sun is outright non-hostile towards Gregory, coming off as overbearing but genuinely friendly. In a FNAF game.

Kellen Goff's phenomenal voice acting further fleshes out the DCA's character, giving us solid foundations for their personalities. Sun is anxious, friendly, and bossy. Moon is a downright giggle gremlin, sadistic and playful. Both of them are childish, and the contrast between their personalities and their job as child caretakers makes them stand out even more.

It's also worth mentioning that the Daycare is one of the earliest sections of the game, easily reached within the first thirty minutes of playtime. This makes it very likely to have been seen by people who either ended up not finishing the game itself, or any let's play series they were watching. It's also one of the most complete sections of the game, with clear, easy to understand mechanics and a decent challenge, making it more enjoyable to play than some of the later puzzles.

So, yeah. Why wouldn't there be a whole subsection of fandom built around some of the most well developed and interesting characters in the entire franchise, from an installment that attracted a new crowd of people who were probably already looking for something different from the traditional FNAF experience?

*As far as I know there are no other FNAF animatronics that perform a jumpscare animation without an accompanying sound, but it's not impossible that there's someone in UCN that I've overlooked.

I think I'd feel less Weird about the archetrope being 50% flag and term coinings if I actually saw people with those identities posting.

Like, where are the Seers and Losers and Slashers and Jesters and Villains? If you're out there, please, please write about your experiences! Talk about yourself! Share your unique perspective and thoughts and feelings! I (and others) want to see it!

I want this to be a community, not a list!

Without that, it just feels like people churning out flags and words that no one asked for and no one is using.
