#fave spotting#peter wyngarde#overseas press club exclusive!#jason king#classic tv#1957#abpc#the george polk case#gregorios staktopoulos#george polk#for more on this strange little series see the tags on a prev alfred burke fave spotting post#i mentioned at that time my doubts that all of these stories were quite as 'torn from the headlines' as the narrator would have us believe#but this one is certainly true: george polk was a real american journalist and he was really murdered in Greece during the civil war there#that part is certainly delivered fairly accurately; it is‚ however‚ kind of background to this old tv dramatisation of events#which is more concerned with capturing the guilty party (SPOILERS ig for a near 70yr old show nobody will watch lol): it's Peter of course#but that's where we hit a weird snag; bc his character here is again very much (for once) based on a real person‚ Gregorios Staktopoulos#but Gregorios' confession was almost certainly obtained via torture‚ not the play of wits shown here; his conviction was also‚ to say the#least‚ unsafe. evidence brought in that trial has been shown to be false‚ and it's actually debated now that Polk was not killed by the#Communist forces (whom Gregorios worked with) at all‚ but by right wing elements affiliated with the Greek government... as recently as#2004 his widow was campaigning for a posthumous retrial to clear his name. so yes an unfortunate footnote in old tv: when you#actually DO try to tell a true story‚ just be aware that the facts you're taking as true may not always be what they appear#the real Gregorios was indeed sentenced to life in prison as in this ep‚ but some relief there in that his sentence was reduced and#(perhaps in recognition of the shady legalities surrounding his conviction) he was released in 1960 and returned to work as a journalist#the George Polk Awards for american journalism are still given today which is nice#imdb list this ep as The George Polk Story but the onscreen title is definitely Case

#thinking abt deleting the prev rambling i did in the tags#bc i think i got a lil heated and i also feel my point may get misconstrued#the point i was making is i feel like people are coming at the current state of switch from very biased perspectives#and lacking in nuance of said characters aswell as the current state of all other units#a Lot of the !!-era stories have sucked and rehashed old conflicts between charas that had been resolved in !-era#and all in all its just been. Weird. for everyone#but i didnt like seeing people ignore the progress switch have made#which can even be evident in current stories#the charas have also changed since !-era and that shift should be acknowledged when discussing them in current day which i felt it wasnt#in a sense all of them are outcasts. the current state of switch is a very complicated one#i dont wanna talk about this too much#ive just been sad about the way the switch community has formed i guess#i remember when there werent many eng speaking switchPs#its the reason i even started posting about them so much to begin with#i wanted to share my love for them with people who loved them too#but whenever i check twitter its just so much needless discourse........ esp at the expense of tsumugi ??#or just ntmg in general. its a weird shift that has happened and i know its to be expected but i cant help but feel a little sad#seeing these perceptions of the characters i love deeply be created and skewed in real time#i know i should just ignore it#and i have been for a while#but when nearly every single switch account is talking about the same stuff? i get tired#i dont know#this is very rambly#i was struggling to fall asleep which is why im typing this#this is very venty and i apologize#but yea. i dont know#nat rambles

what's funnier for a meet-ugly fic. if it's a meet-ugly from the start ("we first met each other in a holding cell") or if it starts cute ("my grocery bag tore open on the street and they helped me pick everything up, also I got their number") and then gets ugly ("I didn't call them because I was busy and five days later we met again, in a holding cell")

'caleb has good social skills and awareness' common fucking misconception he is a#conman and scammer and knows vaguely what to say to get what he wants or more often how to direct attention away from what he's doing but#when he's just Being Caleb he gets to the fuckin point and that lady is his mother in law and he would refer to her as such even if#that's. a fascinating choice to make given everything about essek and also the lingering political situation between the empire and dynasty#I love caleb sooooo much I think he makes a good few snap decisions that are objectively DEEPLY unhinged and I think abt that a lot#calebs not a stable guy! I think it's rlly interesting how not stable he is even when he's doing well he has a few screws loose up there!#this is coming from someone who can relate to the irrational thinking that mental illness does I think he just sees point A to point B and#Does Shit. that's why he fireballs people when he knows it's going to trigger him. it's why he told essek to get it together instead of#killing him- he saw an ally. his morality and his decision making skills are removed from normal logic bc fuck normal logic he's caleb#widogast (sometimes- he goes by a fake name and considers himself entirely seperate from bren while he also holds himself accountable for#the crimes that bren was manipulated into committing) and its why he's Like That and I think he's neat.#I'm done now. what is this.

#ive taken some time to reflect on everything and I'm still going to be dream posting#less than usual but i think im going to be posting everything less than usual#ive talked with trusted irl people and ive reflected on people/celebrities that i continue to support who have done the same or worse thing#and ive come to the conclusion that based on what we've seen of dream's character and what his irl friends say of his character#that a) theres no way he'd do something like this again and b) we've actually seen no real proof of anything#but yeah im trying to step back from sm in general#because ive realized the conclusions i made prev about this situation wouldn't be what I would've made without the influence of The Dash#i need to remember that theres a life outside of tumblr so I'm stepping back from it#not stepping away but ill stay logged out and i already don't have the app#so now ill only check it occasionally like once a day maybe rather than have it be my social crutch#personally i cant condemn someone without any evidence and there wasn't anything i found unforgivable or criminal about the SHOWN messages#however if other evidence comes out ill stand back and reevaluate#but yeah if you want to unfollow block or whatever i understand#ill still be posting dream but he's going to be tagged#but i think this situation has been drawn out of proportion for all we know right now (ex. the words that have been used)#and i think ultimately dream has done more proven good than proven harm and that's a factor for me personally#and i also want to add that the anti-men posting that I've seen lately fucking sucks. like that's terf rhetoric#and as a trans man i dont think that's very epic 🥴#and i want to add that if you are choosing not to support him that that's cool with me like i honestly dgaf#butttttt i come here to relax from my real adult life that already stresses me out#so im only going to follow people that don't stress me out#so yeah#just wanted to update yall on where i stand#im finally becoming a normie 😔😭#tumblr has been an addiction so im finally cutting myself off o7

This reminded me of a character from an urban fantasy novel I first read back in high school (Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light by Tanya Huff, 1989). It's set in the late '80s in the city of Toronto, Canada.
The main protags are Rebecca (a developmentally disabled young woman) and her friend Roland (an aspiring musician).
An Adept of the Light - basically an angel - crosses into our world to help the protagonists stop a demon from taking over Earth via a portal located in the city. Said angel also happens to take the form of a sexy rockstar and Roland discovers he has some gay feelings about it (describing him as a 'heavy metal wet dream').

black boots; tight and faded jeans; a red bandanna knotted just above one knee; three belts, thick with studs surrounding slim waist and hips; one arm circled halfway from wrist to elbow with a jangle of silver bracelets in all sizes; a blinding white T-shirt with the sleeves ripped out sporting a single, tiny button . . . a happy face, white on black.
The point of the young man's chin just missed being delicate and his face missed being pretty by the same small margin. A large silver hoop pierced one ear and his heavy sweep of hair darkened gradually from white blond at the tips to golden blond at the roots. Roland didn't think it was dyed.
Then he smiled and Roland forgot everything he'd just seen in the sweet sensuality of the expression.

transmisogyny and transandrophobia describe, respectively, the intersection of transphobia + misogyny as they tend to affect transfems and transmascs. but exorsexism isnt primarily motivated by misogyny, it describes instead the enforcement of binary sex and gender on nonbinary trans ppl.
so like, as a personal example, my partner recently told me that when they talk about me, often a binary gender is imposed on me regardless of the neutral language they use. this isn't really misogynistic, but it IS exorsexist
a transfem enby may experience transmisogyny on top of exorsexism. a transneutral mtx enby may not directly experience misogyny at all, but would still experience exorsexism. so exorsexism is it's own unique axis distinct from transmisogyny/transandrophobia, in that it is motivated and dictated by a different kind of sex-based oppression, if that makes sense? it isnt "the nonbinary version of", it's its own thing
(this is kinda why i prefer 'exorsexism' to 'enbyphobia' - 'enbyphobia' is like, a vaguely defined hatred of enbies, but exorsexism describes a specific type of sexist behavior and thought)
