in case anyone didn't know... the Ready Rooms at the Webkinz Stadium (that you get access to when you enter into a scheduled event, to "prepare") still have the old sinks, bathtubs, TVs and KinzChat!
(I highly recommend entering a competition just for the fun of seeing them again!)

Binding
Binders
I found that Spectrum Outfitters worked best for me (prices range from $50-$39). I also have binders that are older and stretched out or that don’t work as well (like gc2b) that I use when I don’t need as flat of a chest because they are easier on my rib cage lol. If you do that, do NOT count that as a break!
Practice safe binding!
Don't bind for more than 8 hours
Don't sleep in a binder
Don't exercise in a binder
Get the right size
Try to only wear a binder for 5 or 6 days a week (this one is hard, I know)
If it hurts, take it off!
If you notice bruising, something is wrong! Your binder might be too small or you may be wearing it for too long.
TransTape
Wearing binders all the time is not too good for you so I recommend using a variety of different binding techniques. One is TransTape!
The reason Ace bandages are unsafe is because as you breathe it gets tighter and tighter and can really hurt you. But TransTape doesn't do that, it's like the tape athletes use when they sprain their ankle or something. It's safe as long as it is used properly. Plus, you can wear it for up to 5 days, exercise and sleep while wearing it, and it's water proof!
TransTape isn't the only brand of course, but they do have a lot of great resources.
Learn more at their website here. I recommend starting with this page and the FAQ.
KT tape is another option if you cant afford/arent allowed to order TransTape. You can find it at most drugstores and box stores for relatively cheap. The adhesive isnt as strong as TransTape, keep that in mind when applying.
Men's Compression Shirts *I have not used these myself (yet) but I hear they work pretty well*
Made for cis men with gynecomastia but hey we can use em. Obviously will work much better for smaller chests, but could still do something for bigger chests, maybe for under a hoodie?
They won't flatten you as well as binders but the goal is more to masculinize the shape of your chest than to completely flatten it. They are also safer than binders.
Other stuff
The color black will make you look flatter
Layers! Lots of layers! (don't overheat)
Sports bras
Compression bras
Button ups <3333

tagged by @booksandchainmail to shuffle my general listening music and post the first 10 songs. I chose my 'music' playlist rather just my full library to avoid the two (2) podcast episodes and random audiobook chapters in there.
1. Songs for Lonely Giants by The Mountain Goats ⁃ I mean. it’s The Mountain Goats. it’s slow, it’s sad, it’s pretty weird. I found this one on a character playlist for Jack from E. Jade Lomax’s Beanstalk series (read it for free here!) it’s very good!
2. Moving On by Oysterband ⁃ not blue oyster cult, but a much weirder band that mostly sings songs about working man’s politics in England in during the last century. this song has both the lines "we asked the man for justice, well he handed us a stone" and "the way to hell is straight and sure/the way to heaven is long/the way to your heart is never-ending/so I just keep moving on" and I adore it
3. Four Hours by The Longest Johns ⁃ I found The Longest Johns late in college (and felt deeply smug when their Wellerman was a hit a year later. I found them first), but I do just listen to a lot of sea shanties. This one is a big ass mood for getting off a ship again and trying to adjust to Land and Not a Watch Schedule. Also, like most sea shanties, great to do chores and lab work too
4. Theseus by The Oh Hellos ⁃ god but I always love The Oh Hellos; this is a song about the importance of maintenance and I treasure it. all of the Zephyrus album is good
5. Loves Me Like a Rock by The Wailin’ Jennys ⁃ turns out The Wailin’ Jennys, usually a folk band, did a cover of Paul Simon’s Love Me a Rock. it’s pretty good. (I actually downloaded this earlier today; I have no sophisticated thoughts yet)
6. I Don’t Want You Now by KT Tunstall ⁃ If Only is probably my actual favorite song off this album, but KT Tunstall is always a good time
7. Angels of the River by Oysterband ⁃ aaand the other stuff Oysterband does is odd, folky, kinda wifty stuff like this. Genuinely no idea what this one is about, any more than I know what Milford Haven is about. I like it though
8. Now I am an Arsonist by Jonathon Colton (ft Suzanne Vega) ⁃ to me, this is a very unlikely combination of artists; Colton usually does deeply nerdy fare, while Suzanne Vega soft and strange. this song is on my thieves playlist, and I could not really describe why
9. Heavy Horses by Jethro Tull ⁃ most of the Jethro Tull songs I like best are songs about industrialization with some of the weirdest flute solos I have ever heard, and Heavy Horses is no exception. This song is nearly 9 minutes long and about the arrival of tractors. it’s great. (Stormwatch is actually my favorite Jethro Tull album, and Weathercock or Acres Wild are more favorite songs from this one, but do I really like Heavy Horses)
10. Falling For The First Time by The Barenaked Ladies ⁃ This is the kind of overlapping wordplay I’m here for, the whole chorus delights me; "Anyone perfect must be lying, anything easy has its cost/Anyone plain can be lovely, anyone loved can be lost/What if I lost my direction? What if I lost sense of time?". And the way it comes back in the final chorus, but tweaked a little. it’s just a good time.
I’m deeply surprised that there’s no They Might Be Giants, Great Big Sea, or songs from my highschool acapella group, but other than that, this is pretty representative.
@epsilon-delta do you play tag games?

Greyson’s Guide to Binding
i get a lot of questions about binding, and what methods are best. i used a lot of diy binding methods before getting a real binder, and since getting one i’ve tried a lot of brands. hopefully, this post will give you some insight into what will work for you, based on your needs.
for contex, i have a bigger chest. what works for me might not work for you, and it’s all about experimentation. that being said, i have a friend with a smaller chest, and she was kind enough to try chest binding for the sake of experimentation and different perspectives (thank you talia)
this does not encompass every brand of chest binder out there, or every method. these are popular ones and/or ones i myself have tried
disclaimer: do your own research, read reviews, and be very conscious of healthy binding
diy methods
swimsuit binding
this is a method of chest binding in which you take a smaller, one-piece girl’s swimsuit and use it to compress your chest, we tried athletic grade swimsuits.
talia: her chest wasn’t very compressed with the swimsuit. it was a little flatter, but if she were trying to pass for male it would not work.
me: my chest was honestly more pronounced with the swimsuit, and it didn’t do anything to help me bind. after about an hour of wearing it around my apartment, i also noticed that i had harsh red lines where the swimsuit dug into my skin. it also generally triggered my dysphoria
comfort: 7/10
effectiveness: 1/10
cost: 4/10
safety: 7/10
would you pass: no
would i recommend: no
tank top binding
for tank top binding, you take a tight camisole with a built-in bra and wear it backwards. you position yourself in the camisole, and then fold it up once or twice to form a binder.
talia: talia actually got really flat with this method. if she were trying to pass as a male, this binding method would get her flat enough.
me: this wasn’t terrible. i had a little trouble securing myself at first, but once i did, it was decent. i wouldn’t trust it with a t-shirt or something, but if i was in a pinch i would probably leave the house in a big hoodie. i also didn’t notice any pain, discomfort, reddening, etc. while wearing this for about 8 hours around the house
notes: the binder was REALLY visible under my clothes, and it liked to try and unfold throughout the day
comfort: 10/10
effectiveness: 5/10
cost: 10/10
safety: 9/10
would you pass: maybe
would i recommend: probably, yeah
double bra binding
this is a super popular makeshift binding method. with the double bra method, you wear a compressing sports bra, and then a second sports bra backwards over top of it
talia: she was completely flat with the sports bra method. for someone with a small chest, this would work for passing
me: this was my go-to method before i got a binder. it was fairly effective, but if you don’t position yourself right then you have a weird lump in the front of your chest. my chest also shifted a lot in this. after a couple hours i felt kind of overheated and short of breath, and i vividly remember that i used to get really severe bruising on my ribs doing this.
comfort: 4/10
effectiveness: 7/10
cost: 4/10
safety: 5/10
would you pass: mostly
would i recommend: if you’re careful about how long you bind.
ace bandages
this is a method of binding that is proven to be dangerous, and you shouldn’t do it. you wrap ace sports bandages around your breasts to compress them
me: i struggled to even wrap my chest. it immediately dug into my ribs and restricted my breathing
notes: this method is extremely dangerous and can damage the breast tissue and may make you ineligible for top surgery.
comfort: 0/10
effectiveness: 0/10
cost: 7/10
safety: 0/10
would you pass: yeah, you’d pass out
would i recommend: no. do not do this.
legging binder
in this method, you take a pair of leggings and cut the legs off to make them into shorts. you cut out the crotch and you cut and resew the legs to be straps. you can google tutorials
me: this really didn’t work for me. altering the tights was a challenge, and there was essentially no compression. after wearing it for a few hours, i will admit that there was no physical discomfort
comfort: 10/10
effectiveness: 0/10
cost: 6/10
safety: 7/10
would you pass: doubtful
would i recommend: no
actual binding
kt tape - $10.99 USD for 20 strips
this method uses kt tape to pull your chest back and flatten it
talia: talia was perfectly flat using kt tape, and she found it reasonably comfortable
me: i had a little trouble figuring out how to use the tape, but once i got myself taped, i was surprisingly flat. the feeling was a little weird, but certainly not uncomfortable
notes: you have to keep buying the tape, it’s not a one-time purchase, if you use it every day, then it adds up very quickly
comfort: 8/10
effectiveness: 9/10
cost: 4/10
safety: 8/10
would you pass: probably
would i recommend: yes
amazon binder - $10 USD
the binder i bought was a jarazin clasp binder, but this is more a general review of clasped binders from amazon
me: i wasn’t very flat with this binder, and after a few hours of wearing it, i was extremely out of breath and in a lot of pain
notes: clasp and ziper binders are restricting on your lungs and not safe to use. i would not personally recommend anything with clasps or zippers to bind
comfort: 2/10
effectiveness: 3/10
cost: 7/10
safety: 2/10
quality: 4/10
would you pass: i doubt it
would i recommend: no
gc2b half tank - $33 USD
gc2b half tank binders stop at the bottom of your ribs. they’re a spandex type of material, and the front is a canvas panel
me: i’m not super font of the half tank binders. i know people with smaller chests really like them, but i always find myself unable to get super flat with them because the lack of support makes my chest shift to much. these are, however, what i use for swimming (under a swim shirt, over a one piece). i was fine after a day of wearing it, but when i used to wear one every day i would feel a lot of pain
notes: the material in the back of the binder will stretch out over time. you also can’t put this binder in a dryer really, or it will shorten its life. the stitching also tends to fray and unravel in places. the canvas is nice though, because it can’t stretch or move
comfort: 6/10
effectiveness: 5/10
cost: 7/10
safety: 9/10
quality: 8/10
would you pass: probably
would i recommend: yes
gc2b full tank - $35 USD
this is the same as a half tank, but it goes all the way to your waist. the canvas in the front still stops at the bottom of your ribs
me: this was my go-to binder for a long time. i like the full tank because i can roll up the bottom and place it under my breasts, and that support keeps me from shifting too much during the day. i do get a little breathless eventually, but other than that they’re usually fine
notes: the material in the back of the binder will stretch out over time. you also can’t put this binder in a dryer really, or it will shorten its life. the stitching also tends to fray and unravel in places. the canvas is nice though, because it can’t stretch or move
comfort: 7//10
effectiveness: 8/10
cost: 7/10
safety: 9/10
quality: 8/10
would you pass: probably
would i recommend: yes
underworks tri-top - $29.99 USD
this binder is a sports mesh with a compressing cotton panel in the front
me: i was really surprised by this binder. it didn’t seem like it’d be effective when i took it out of the packaging, but it made me very flat. i feel a little winded, but there’s no pain and it’s really breathable fabric
notes: the back of the binder is a really thin mesh, and the front is a soft, flexible cotton. i didn’t think it would work, but it’s actually my favourite method here and the mesh makes it really breathable and cool
comfort: 8/10
effectiveness: 9/10
cost: 7/10
safety: 9/10
quality: 9/10
would you pass: probably
would i recommend: yes
summary
least favourite diy: ace bandages
favourite diy: double bra
least favourite binder: amazon
favourite binder: underworks

“Good work today! We’ll see you at dinner!”
You waved goodbye to the managers as you made your way back to where the boys were practicing with Shimizu and Yachi. You stretched your arms over your head and let out a groan while your friends chuckled at your reaction.
“You really did overwork yourself yesterday, huh?” Yachi asked while she tied her jacket around her waist.
Slumping over, you yawned and nodded. “Umm yeah, I guess so. I didn’t even realize how much I played till we all talked about it over dinner. Yu-nii wouldn’t let me hear the end of it.”
Your mind flashed back to the night before when the libero rapidly shook your shoulders. He yelled your ear off while the rest of the team laughed at your relationship. It didn’t help that your face was blank while trying to continue on with your meal. You’ve heard it from him all before but you couldn’t help it when you lost track of time. All you wanted to do was peacefully eat your dinner then knock out for the night and yet Nishinoya made it his job to make sure the entire camp heard how reckless you had been.
“Well, at least something good came out of it though.” Shimizu laughed with a teasing glint in her eyes.
Your cheeks grew warm as she referred to Kageyama carrying you into the cafeteria and half of the camp ended up freaking out over it. “Hey! You promised you wouldn’t tease anymore.”
Shimizu smiled and Yachi laughed out loud and patted your shoulders. “It’s nice to see some progress between you two.”
“He was just being nice.” you huffed.
“Kageyama isn’t just nice to anyone, y’know,” Shimizu added.
“I told him that it was okay to just walk side by side though!”
“And yet he still offered to carry you~” Yachi teased.
“...It was my knee, okay?” you pouted and pointed to the said body part that was wrapped in KT Tape with a brace covering it. To make sure that you listened to his lecture, Nishinoya took it upon himself to wake up earlier than he typically would to give you his stash of Tiger Balm and extra case of KT tape in case you ran out.
“Right, whatever you say(Y/N)-chan.” she chuckled and Shimizu added on, “But please take it easy tonight, Noya-san even said you shouldn’t play again until we get back home.”
“Ugh, whatever. It’s my body not his, I can do whatever I want.” you waved and rolled your eyes as the three of you arrived at the first gymnasium. As much as you appreciated his worrying, you were finally getting the chances to play and work on your skills again.
“I’ll leave you to it then?” Shimizu asked.
Yachi nodded as you saluted and the older girl waved goodbye before she made her way towards the second gymnasium to check up on the others who were working on the synchronized attack. When you made your way into the gym that you were assigned to help, Yachi split ways with you at the door and sauntered towards the other court to help with the second-year members while you walked towards your side and waved to Coach Ukai and Kageyama. Picking up the ball that rolled away from missing a water bottle, you gave the setter an encouraging smile when he locked eyes with you.
“Alright, now that (L/N) is here I can properly watch you.” Coach Ukai smirked and nodded for you to take his place.
Every time you tossed the ball, Kageyama continued to miss by being off by a little bit. After a couple more tries, the frustration on his face became more evident. You pursed your lips when you noticed his demeanor become tenser and a small scowl could be seen on his face. He cursed underneath his breath when he missed once more and Coach Ukai finally stepped in with some tips to help him.
“Kageyama, don’t think of the bottle as a target. Actually, visualize it. As much as you can, visualize a spike.”
You understood where Ukai was coming from: rather than setting at a set point, Kageyama had to remember that his target was moving at different speeds and points of the court. His expression turned thoughtful as Coach Ukai walked back towards the sidelines and stretched his back.
He suddenly snapped his fingers and pointed at you. “Ah (L/N), before I forget, can you give this to Takeda-sensei? I can take over for a bit until you come back.”
You walked up to Coach Ukai as he handed you some documents and nodded. Before you took a step towards the door, you couldn’t help but look back at Kageyama who was looking down at the volleyball in his hands.
“Don’t worry about Kageyama, he’ll be fine.” He reassured you when he noticed that your gaze followed Kageyama while he walked off to the side to get a quick sip of water.
“Alright if you say so.” You sighed and began to make your way out of the gym. “I’ll be back!”
“Take care.” “Be safe and hurry back idiot.”
You laughed at Kageyama’s words and walked your way through the school. Since you had time to yourself, you decided to check on the rest of the team. You peeped in the gym that Shimizu was in to see that she was recording the synchronized attack for the boys to look over after they were done for critiques. On the other side, Nishinoya was practicing his jump with Asahi, and your assumption of where the hyperactive spiker was confirmed. Making your way towards the third gym, you were impressed to see that Tsukishima and Hinata were both very focused on the practice game with Kuroo, Bokuto, and Akaashi. Lev was also added into the mix and your eyes traveled towards the scoreboard and as they finished the first round. You couldn’t control your laughter when your eyes landed on the names of their makeshift teams. All of the heads turned towards your direction and you waved your hands so they wouldn’t pay attention to you.
“What are you laughing at, (Y/N)-chan?” Bokuto asked.
You pointed at the names they wrote down and bent over to help catch your breath. “You guys really put your spirit animals as the team names?”
“Isn’t it cool?” Kuroo smirked as he walked up to you and ruffled your hair.
“Don’t. Touch. The. Hair. Tetsu.” you groaned and poked him in the stomach as retaliation.
He laughed and stepped away to give you some space. “Alright, chibi-chan, geeze can’t you let me have some fun?”
You rolled your eyes and walked over towards Hinata. He smiled at you and laughed when you couldn’t help but ruffle his hair.
“What are you doing here, (Y/N)-chan?” Hinata asked then gave you a hug.
“I just wanted to check up on you guys.” you shrugged and waved at the others that gathered around.
“So how’s it been?”
“It’s been pretty good, these guys are slowly getting better,” Bokuto answered your question as he pointed towards Karasuno and Nekoma’s first years.
“Um...We are technically opponents as soon as we’re in a match, right?” Tsukishima asked. “Why are you giving us advice?” He continued before wiping his face with his towel.
Kuroo put on an angelic smile and raised his hand to put it over his heart. “I’ve always been a nice person.”
You and Tsukishima gave him blank expressions while Hinata just watched him, not knowing how to act.
“You don’t have to look at me like that.” Kuroo sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “I want to make the Battle at the Garbage Dump a reality. Well, it’s practice for me, as well, so don’t sweat the small things.”
You snickered at his reaction and went up to pinch his cheeks. “Awww look at cute Lil Tetsu-nii trying to act all cool for his juniors.”
“Get off of me, you brat.” Kuroo groaned and tried to push you away.
You stuck out your tongue at him and Bokuto slung his arms over the both of them. “Alright now that story time’s over let’s get back to it, yeah?”
“We’ll catch up after, alright (Y/N)-chan?”
You nodded in response while the boys gathered on the court and Bokuto gave her a cheeky smile. “I’m looking forward to the ramen this weekend!”
You gulped and glared at Kuroo who was laughing. “YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO TELL HIM AT THE END YOU IDIOT!”
Flipping your childhood friends off, you rubbed your temples as you stormed out of the gym and shook your head at their antics. ‘They are literally going to make me go broke this weekend with how huge their appetites are.’
--
“Alright, here’s the next one!” you called out.
Kageyama took in a deep breath and zoned in on his focus. Progress was finally being made after practicing the drills all throughout the week. He was glad that everything was settling into his muscle memory. Trying to imagine where Hinata would appear, Kageyama tossed the ball to the bottle furthest away from him. You gasped while you watched the ball spiral towards the designated bottle and fall right on top of it. With a proud smile, you jumped excitedly and clapped your hands. Ever since you returned back to the gym, Kageyama’s focus was sharper than ever and his progress skyrocketed within the next hour of practicing. He smirked and you noticed the new and fiery look in his eyes.
“Toss me one more!”
Like previous sessions, you two continued to practice late into the night for him to really get it into his body. It was down to the littlest details and he even asked you try and spike some with Ukai tossing a couple of balls to make the exercise even more effective. For the most part, Kageyama was in his own world to make sure that he got his sets down. When Ukai left you to your own devices, you would give him critiques here and there to make sure that his accuracy remained the same. For extra reassurance, you made it a thing that if he couldn’t get the full line five times in a row, then Kageyama would have to restart until he got it right. You admired his determination and couldn’t wait to see how things played out.
At some point, Kuroo and Bokuto had stopped by to check up on you after they wrapped up their own practice. You caught up with them during one of your breaks and Kageyama would glance over at you with them every once in a while. Kuroo caught on to his behavior and smirked. While you were complaining about how your dad kept texting how excited he was for you staying over the weekend to Bokuto, Kuroo made his way over to the setter and nodded towards their little setup.
“So how’s it going with you guys?” he asked and sat next to Kageyama.
“It’s going good, I almost have it down.”
“Nah kid, I mean how’s your progress with chibi-chan.”
“Huh?”
Kuroo rolled his eyes and nodded his head at you who was being chased around by Bokuto. The squeals and laughter from the two of you echoed through the gym and Kuroo chuckled to the crazy energy Bokuto always managed to rub off on you.
“Based off of last night’s events, one can only assume that you both have a thing for each other.”
“I do not,” Kageyama grumbled as he looked to the side and aggressively chugged his water.
Kuroo laughed at the younger boy’s reaction and patted his shoulder. “You make it clear as day, but (Y/N) on the other hand, she’d need you to actually spell it out for her.”
“We’re not dating and I don’t think she’d go for me anyway,” he replied back.
“Oh trust me, she’d totally go for you. She looks at you and acts differently when you’re together. I’ve known her long enough with Bokuto and I’m pretty sure Nishinoya can see that she has a crush on you.”
“You guys are just teasing us.”
“Usually I’d say yes, but for right now, I’m trying to help you out.”
Kageyama blinked and turned to look at Kuroo who had a soft smile on his face, his eyes locked on you. “Why are you helping me?”
Without taking his eyes off of you, Kuroo simply said, “Because (Y/N) deserves the world and I’ve never seen her like that. She’s the little sister I’ve always wanted, y’know? It’s the same for Bokuto too. She’s helped us in so many ways and we’ve grown protective over her.”
Kageyama’s eyes widened and Kuroo looked back with a small smirk. “You’re so easy to read, kid. We just want her to be happy after all that she’s been through. As you can see, (Y/N) is passionate about anything she puts her mind to whether it’s volleyball or friendships. Relationship-wise, she tends to wear her heart on her sleeve which doesn’t always have a happy ending.  Over the years, we’ve seen her during her puppy love phase and it crushed Bokuto and me to see her so dejected when her previous crushes turned her down.”
“Oh…”
“Bokuto always says she’s one in a million. I’d have to agree because both of us always wanted to keep her as our little gem.” Kageyama couldn’t help but notice the way that Kuroo’s facial expression softened while they watched you jump onto Bokuto’s back and spun you around. “If you are actually serious about her, I’d say not to wait too long to do something about it though, because you never know who could swoop in and try to whisk her off of her feet,” Kuroo added with a pointed look.
Kageyama hummed in response as you and Bokuto waved them over. His mind flashed back towards the previous days in the week and the comments that he overheard other players saying about you. Just like how they’ve fawned over Shimizu, now that you and Yachi were about of the team, it was new eye candy for the other volleyball players to admire. He’s seen some try to flirt with you during the dead time at the camp and he couldn’t help the burning sensation in his chest. Every time he came across moments like that, all he wanted to do was take you away so all of your attention was on him.
Kuroo sighed and pushed himself up before offering his hand to Kageyama. He took it silently and before they walked towards the center of the court, Kuroo tightened his grip on his hand and said, “If you hurt her, you don’t only have to go through Nishinoya and the others on your team. Best believe you’ll find me and Bokuto standing on your doorstep ready to pummel you when you least expect it, got it, King?”
Kageyama gulped when he saw the dangerous glint in Kuroo’s eyes and nodded. Happy with his response, Kuroo’s demeanor immediately relaxed, and laughed while slinging his arm over his shoulders.
“Tetsu-nii I swear to Kami if you’re bullying Tobio I’m gonna kill you!” you threatened when you managed to catch a glimpse of Kageyama’s reaction at the end of their conversation.
“Nah we were just bro bonding, chibi-chan.” He responded.
Kageyama met your gaze that fell upon him and you gave him a helpless smile. “Sorry for that one, he doesn’t know when to stop sometimes.”
“No worries, he was stating the truth, (Y/N),” Kageyama said.
“That’s good, I’m glad to see the people that I care about getting along.” you smiled brightly.
“Don’t worry, Kags and I will have our bro bonding soon too!” Bokuto added and crossed his arms, a deadly smile on his face.
“Oof, if you thought I was bad, wait until you talk to Bokuto,” Kuroo murmured before brushing past Kageyama and walking towards the entrance.
Bokuto waved at you two before jogging to keep up with Kuroo who lazily waved goodbye. You only shook your head in amusement at their actions before turning back to Kageyama and patted his shoulder.
“Ready?”
Kageyama hummed in agreement as his mind was drifted away with all the new information Kuroo had told him. ‘Was it that obvious to everyone?’ He looked back to you who had walked off to gather some stray volleyballs near the basket. ‘I need to clear my mind, I don’t think I can focus anymore…’
He cleared his throat and you whirled around to look at him. “I think we should end here tonight.”
“Are you sure? I can still go for another thirty minutes or so.” You asked with a raised eyebrow and played with the volleyball in your hands.
Kageyama nodded and said, “My body is already cooled down and I guess time passed quickly when Bokuto-san and Kuroo-san were here. I feel like I’m at a good place with the sets.”
He watched as you understandingly nodded and gave him another smile. “Sounds good.”
“I’ll walk you to the room after.” he simply said as he walked up to you and began to push the volleyball cart towards the storage room.
“You don’t have to Tobio.” you insisted while you walked behind him.
“I don’t want you to get lost, shorty.”
“I won’t get lost, milk boy. It's literally a short walk past the dining hall then around the faculty building. ”
“Noya-san would kill me if he found out that I let you walk alone, it’s too dark out.”
“Are you actually being a gentleman?” you teased as he pushed the cart inside the storage room.
You leaned against the wall while he walked back out and locked its door. He rolled his eyes and walked towards the bench that had both of your belongings.
“Can you just let me be nice to you?” he muttered and wordlessly slung your duffel bag over his shoulder.
“Nah, it’s fun to tease you.” you laughed and tried to take your bag from him.
Kageyama easily dodged your arm and couldn’t help but flick your forehead in response.
“...idiot,” he muttered before slipping his hands into his pockets and walked out of the gym.
“I know.”
“Are you coming or not? You can just sleep here if you want slowpoke.” Kageyama called out as he looked over his shoulder to see you closing the doors of the gym.
“Whatever, blueberry,” you responded and stuck your tongue out at him.
Kageyama rolled his eyes and continued to lead the way towards the building you were staying at. As you slightly lagged behind him, you admired the way that he looked from behind. His back was relaxed rather than tensed as if he carried the whole weight of the team. There was sort of a serene look on his face now that things were working in his favor. It was nice knowing that he trusted you enough to show you this relaxed side of him outside of practice time. He looked a little more vulnerable than usual and it made you happy that he was comfortable with you. Your eyes glanced at your duffle that was hanging from his shoulder with his on the other one. You bit your thumb to stop the smile that was threatening to come out because of the sweet gesture. ‘Can he get any cuter?’ you thought to yourself as you made your way to his side. Kageyama clicked his tongue when you finally walked side by side and you laughed. This was your time together and no one was able to take that away from you two.

Polaroids | KT
Pairing: Kim Taehyung x Reader
Prompt: “Stop teasing me so much...”
Genre: Smut
Word Count: idk lol
A/N: Yes i’m alive... Quarantine sucks and online school is a pain.. also i haven't written anything in a FAT minute so excuse my trash ass writing.
---------------------------------------------
Time seemed to be going in slow motion, not that you had anywhere to go due to the pandemic that’s happening outside. You rolled over in bed and noticed that Taehyung was not there, which caused you to sit up with confusion.
Before you could call out his name, you hear in yelling in the other room. “HE’S BEHIND YOU!” You flopped back down, letting out a sigh, “Fucking Jungkook.” You mumbled before tossing the blankets off yourself. You told Jungkook not to suck Taehyung in his Gaming world, did he listen? No. Is Taehyung sleep schedule shittier than ever? Yes.
Taehyung hasn’t even picked up a paintbrush or his camera in months. MONTHS. Now that is a problem; Your artist is now a gaming addict. You walked down the hall to hear more of Taehyung yelling.
“HE KILLED ME IN THE OTHER ROOM!”
“NAMJOON SECURE A!”
You rolled your eyes as you pulled up to his door only to see a sign on his door, noticing that new stickers are covering his art stickers.
KEEP OUT LIVESTREAM IN SESSION.
GAMING W/THE BOYZ
LOVE ART OR CREATE ART.
You smiled at the only sticker he didn’t cover, you open the door and peaked in and notice he is wearing his headphones. He was wearing only sweats. You looked around the room and noticed that not all his art is in here.
He and Jungkook must have been busy while you were gone, you jumped to the sound of Taehyung screaming once again. He spun his chair around and noticed you in the room. “_____ what are you doing in here? Did I wake you?” He said, moving his headphone out his ear. “No, you not being in bed woke me up.” You mentioned moving closer to him to see what he was playing.
“Say hi to the stream,” Taehyung says, and You jump back. “Since when did you become a streamer?” You asked, and he shrugged. “Since I got the cam and the mic.” Taehyung looked back at the computer to change a song.
“Wait, they can see that your shirtless?” You said, and he shook his head. “Only the shoulder up.” He said, and he sighs. “Jungkook ___ is never going to play with us, she loves her sleep,” Taehyung says, and You got closer to him but not in the camera.
You noticed that there was a chat that was scrolling fast, “Who else can you talk to?” You asked, reading the conversation.
“Oh, Jungkook, Namjoon, Jin, Jimin, Hobi, Yoongi,” Taehyung says, leaning back in his chair. “In The headset?” You said, pointing to his head. “Yeah.” He said, and You quickly snatch it off his head to hear what they are saying.
“I will have ____ playing games in a week,” Jungkook says. “Jungkook, I think the-“ You looked over to Taehyung. “Can you curse on life?” You asked, and he smiled. “Yeah.” “Jungkook, I think the fuck not.” You said, and Taehyung gets out of his seat.
“I'm going to grab a few things, coming back,” Taehyung says, walking out the room and You sat in his chair.
“___ Hows’ quarantine?” Jimin says, and You laugh. “It sucks. I want to hang out with my friends.” You pout.
“You can just keep your distance… what is it 6 feet apart?” Hobi says.
“How long have you guys been playing?” You asked as you look through Taehyung playlists.
“We have been on for 5 hours now,” Yoongi says, and your eyes widen. “The chat likes you ___,” Jin says, and you look back at the chat reading them out loud. “Pretty.” “Skin routine, please.” “Drop a diss track on Jungkook.”
“Thank you, I don’t have a routine, and I would love to do a diss on Kookie.” You answered, and Jungkook whines.
“____ don’t call me that while we're on stream.”
“Oh, I'm sorry, Kookie.” You teased, and he whines even more.
“____ do you know how to play?” Namjoon asked, “No, all I know is you kill people for points….so violent.” You said.
“Whats a battle pass?” You asked. “It's where you can get cool stuff, but to get the cool stuff, you have to buy it,” Jimin explains, and you hummed in response.
“So How much did you guys spend on the game.”
“Too much.” They all say, and You laugh. “I'm not surprised.”
You hear to door opened, and Taehyung comes back with wet hair, and you guessed he took a shower. “Up.” He says, placing his food on the table.
“Bye, gentlemen, and chat?” You said confused on how to say bye to the people watching the stream; You got up taking off the headphones and getting out of Tae’s seat. “When are you going to get off?” You asked Taehyung, who sat down, turning off the camera. “It’s a 12-hour stream.” He says, taking a bite of his sandwich as you whined.
“Can't you just end it early and hang with me?” You said, and he smiled, “Sorry….” He said, and You pouted.
“You're leaving me for a game.” You whined, and he grabbed your hand.
“I will never leave you for a game, never. You can chill in here with me.” He said, patting his lap.
You wrapped your legs around him and placed your head on his shoulder. “Comfortable?” he asked, and you hummed inhaling in the bodywash that he used. You heard keyboard clicking signaling that he continued his game.
But You suddenly got the brilliant idea to tease him, you wrapped your arms around his neck and played with his hair before giving it a light tug giving him sloppy kissed down his throat. You felt him pinch your side, “Quit it.” He whispers in your ear, which causes you to send shivers down your spine.
You paused for a moment letting him continue his game before placing kisses up his neck once again, running your fingers through his blue locks and giving hit a hard pull, he inhales sharply, you felt his body tense as you began moving your hips, pressing down against him you gasp.
You placed your lips close to his ear, “I want you, really, really bad.” You whined, moving your hips against his, and he grips your waist.
“You can be a good girl and wait.” He says before going back to his game, which made you roll your eyes. Good girl, my ass.
You don’t listen and slip your hands in his sweats, causing him to tense up, but he couldn’t do anything about it as he just entered another fight.
You began stroking him through his pants, and he jerked against your hand, which caused you to stroke him faster before you can go any further you felt Taehyung grabbed your arm harshly.
“We lost.” Jin whines and Taehyung looks back at the screen and then back at you angry. “Guys, I'm going to come back. I got to handle a problem,” Taehyung says before taking off his headset and lifting you over his shoulder, walking you back to the room.
“You can’t keep your hands to yourself,” Taehyung spoke, slamming the door behind you two, and he tosses you down on the bed, making you yelp.
He got on top of you taking off your shirt, sucking in his breath as he noticed that there was nothing underneath “Hands.” He demanded, and you hold out your hands out to him as tied them together. He stands up, looking down at you before reaching into his bag.
He pulled out his polaroid camera, resting it down, stripping down to his boxers. He removes your underwear, chuckling. “You’re a mess.” Causing you to whine.
“I bet you can take me just like this.” He says, running his finger up your slit, making you gasp. “Can you?” He asked, pressing his thumb against your slit. You try to move closer to his finger, but he moves away, making you whine.
“You’re needy, but you never answered my question,” Taehyung says, leaning into your face. “I-I don’t-“
“That’s not an answer, ____ I need a yes or no.” He says sternly. “Yes.” You breathe out, and he smirks. “Let's test it out,” he says without warning he buried his two fingers inside you, making you moan. He quickly slipped his fingers in and out of You at a fast pace. Digging his fingers deeper inside you hitting your g-spot, making moan louder, you close your eyes as You felt your high approaching.
Suddenly Taehyung removed his fingers, and you whined once more. “It's not that easy, princess.” Taehyung says, grabbing his camera, you watched as he snapped a picture of you, “Throw it away.” You pant trying to catch the polaroid that was coming out the camera, but Taehyung pushed your hands away.
“I'm going to take my time with you.” He says, dropping to his knees, he gripped your waist before diving his head between your legs. He licked slowly, teasing you. “Stop teasing me so much.” You whimpered, and he hummed in response, causing you to jolt.
You grip the sheets as he began sucking you everywhere; you let out a loud moan as he dips his tongue into your entrance. Your eyes began to roll back as you felt your stomach turn. “Taehyung I-“
You didn’t get to finish as he pulls away, and your high disappears, which caused you to whine once again. “I want to be inside you when you cum,” Taehyung says, letting his dick run up and down your slit before slipping in between your folds.
Taehyung lets out a gasp. He buried himself deep inside you. “FUCK,” Taehyung growled, you wrap your legs around his waist, making him sink deeper into you.
He gripped your waist thrusting hard, causing you to cry out, “Fuck, fuck, fuck.” You pant as the same knot in your stomach began to form.
“Your so- UGH!” Taehyung Gasps and as felt you clench around him. He dipped his head into the nape of your neck and began biting. Your moans got louder and louder as you felt your climax near.
“Taehyung, I’m close… please.” You purred into his ear. “Cum for me___” Taehyung groans as his thrust turn sloppy. You began to dissolve into pleasure; you can feel Taehyung twitch inside you, but you began to whine as your climax washes over you, and you squeeze your eye shut. You feel Taehyung cum fill you,
Yet he doesn’t stop; he began to play with your clit causing you to jerk away from his grasp. “Tae no, I'm sen-“you were cut off by another climax hitting you, but it was ten times harder, “Taehyung!” The sound of a camera going off causes you to look up at Taehyung, who took another one.
“Stop.” You spoke weakly.
“These are keepers,” Taehyung says, looking at the three Polaroid's he took of you.
He spreads your legs and watches as his cum spills from your entrance, “Are you going to keep your hands to yourself now?” He asked as he held up the camera again.
“No.” You said tiredly.
“Should I teach you?”
“Please.”

Let me take a crack at the eternal question:
What the hell is Seto Kaiba, Teen CEO, doing at Domino High?
(beyond the Doylist explanation that kt didn’t care and the anime staff just rolled with it)
To explore that question, let’s break down the school-related options he had in the immediate aftermath of Gozaburo’s death:
Option 1: Just Quit Going
In Japan, compulsory education ends at age 15. Legally speaking, he could have just stopped going to school, and no one would have been able to tell him what to do, how things would be if they were in his shooees~ do anything about it.
But: Then he’d be Seto Kaiba, High School Dropout. and that’s Failure™
Option 2: Hire a Private Tutor
So dropping out is, uh, out. But that doesn’t mean he had to deign to physically drag himself to a school building and sit in one of those crappy connected desk-chair things, his giraffe legs protruding awkwardly out on either side for 6 hours a day. He could have gotten An Education from the comfort of his very own home.
But wait: tráuma
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, we’re verging into my own headcanon territory here--canon doesn’t mention whether these tutoring sessions were a supplemental thing on top of top of his regular school day, or whether they were his school day. But my interpretation was always that Gozaburo had him entirely homeschooled (the better to control his every waking moment + keep him from developing any connections and support systems outside the household)
Either way, the thought of being stuck in a secluded room, alone with an authority figure or two, whose focus is pointed laser-like exclusively at you, probably doesn’t bring back happy memories for him.
Option 3: Hire Someone to Pretend to be Your Private Tutor
Couldn’t he just pay a “tutor” to sit around twiddling their thumbs for a few hours per day, while he uses that time to play video games/catch up on sleep/tinker in his lab/try on a bunch of different trench coats while striking poses in front of the mirror and laughing maniacally/etc?
But: that would be cheating.
Sure, in his first (early installment weirdness-filled) manga appearance, he didn’t seem to have a problem with slipping cards out of his sleeve. But he could have counted that Duelist Kingdoom rooftop duel as a victory and gloated about it forever, and he didn’t. That win didn’t count, because cheating basically equals Failure™ (and, by the transitive property, death).
So just printing a high school diploma off the internet, framing it, and slapping it on the wall wouldn’t be good enough. He has to earn that high school diploma.
Option 4: Go to a Fancy School/Skip Straight to College
Still, so far none of this means that he has to breathe the same air as Joey Wheeler. He could have easily tested or bought his way into the fanciest Rich Kid School in Domino. Or, if he really wanted to show off, he could have done the child prodigy thing and just started college at 15.
But: Elite schools/universities would actually have challenging coursework. Which would be fine--a plus, even--if school was his only commitment. But it’s not actually possible to run a company, raise a child, be the world’s best magic the gathering player, invent miracles in your spare time, and put 110% into your schoolwork. At least while, like. Staying sane. And alive.
And not putting in 110% wouldn’t be an option, if that’s what it took to maintain that precious four-point. Because being Seto Kaiba, Who Technically Graduated But Got A Couple Cs, is also (in his head) basically Failure.
Which leaves us with...
Option 5: Go to Some Mediocre Public School Where You Can Phone It In and Still Get As. Preferably within 10 Minutes of the Kaibacorp Building
Hello there, Domino High.

Wow it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but since @domhnall-of-zena tagged me. I guess I will.
Nicknames: boy I’ve had a lot. I used to be called flatfro by a kid who thought I should have an afro like him, and it stuck for some reason. 2 seperate past lovers called me.... um.... I don’t remember, but some famous actor or somethingI don’t remember. He was popular for something. I”ve also been called back in high school gaming club “Dirty Counter Spammer” due to being a nasty lucina main. I don’t remember any others.
Zodiac sign: Paladin
Height: Idfk, last I checked I was 5′10″
Hogwarts House: do not mistake my knowledge of this with an interest or care for this series, but Hufflepuff and based on what I DO know about them I like the stereotype about them, and identify with their ideals.
Last thing I googled: If it’s not Minecraftwiki or Kiranico, it ain’t my phone.
Fav Musicians: Confession: I don’t actually listen to things because a certain musician wrote them. It’s not like I have the money to support them. So I kinda just listen to individual songs I like and find. My playlists are always a mess. But we’ll get to that
Song stuck in my head: nothing currently, but the first song that comes to mind is Teostra’s theme or “Redesign Your Logo” by Lemon Demon
Following: 172
Followers: 149 (I block the porn bots, so this isn’t a bloated number)
Do I gets asks: Not really no, but sometimes you all surprise me. I haven’t gotten hate though.
Amount of sleep: *sweats* uhh, usually an hour or two on a workday, but on days off i usually sleep like 5-6, and lay there an extra 4
Lucky Number: Idk, but I like 7
What am I wearing: “Love wins” shirt(deep indigo), split pea green khakis. I am also wearing a leather belt and a watch through the belt loop because I don’t like it on my wrist.
Dream Job: Therapist! Maybe art therapy. No particular demographic chosen yet.
Dream Trip: Norway or some shit, but hear me out, I stay there. Otherwise i wanna see my friends pretty much around the globe.
Instruments: I used to play trombone in Middle School. Hated every day of it.
Languages: English, and i can fluently read and write my own runic language. I took french in high school, but forgot it as I learned it. Seriously, American schooling Language classes are a waste of goddamn time.
Random Fact: I’m a bit of a masochist, and make games as hard on myself as possible. Difficulty WAY up! For games where I can’t turn up the difficulty, I impose limitations on myself like, only X shitty weapon. no leveling, no healing. etc. This is part of the reason I like Halo so much with it’s oppressive difficulties and the Skull system.
Favorite Songs: well, I’ll just give you my main playlist. This is everything I currently listen to. Prepare to be disappointed. MH3U Caedeus- Moonquake, The River by KT Tunstall, Halo by Beyonce, NearFar by Death Cab For Cutie, Just like Sleep from the Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice OST, Devil Trigger from Devil May Cry 5 OST, Mark of A Hero(Proof of a Hero?) from the MH3U OST, The Catalyst by Linkin Park, Going Going Gone by Maddie Poppe, Pompeii by Bastille, Icarus by Bastille, Spanish Sahara by a band I forgot, Centuries by Fall Out Boy, Uma Thurman by Fall Out Boy, The Pheonix by Fall Out Boy, Light It Up by Fall Out Boy, Believer by Imagine Dragons, Ladies in the 90′s by Lauren something, Teostra’s theme from Monster Hunter4u, and Maya’s Theme from Killer Instict’s OST. Short list huh? only 19 songs. That is all I have on my phone.
Aesthetic: Paladin Women!!!! Big weapons!!!! Holy Lighting magic!!! Also soft clothes and flannels and canvas for clothes and accessories. spaceships like those in Elite Dangerous, and Power Armor like that of Halo.
I tag: uhhhhhhhhhhh I can’t think of anybody who would care to do this, but if you want to, tag me so I see I guess.

Seoul, day 1 - Arrival
So to make this journey possible, I had to save up most of my years vacation days plus apply for educational vacation at my company, which was thankfully approved. A lot of preparation had to be made. Not just communication with the company that organized this educational travel, but also making sure my cats are cared for. But I admit, they're like my children. 😅😇
As I would be staying for about a month, I had to pack quite a bit, as I didn't know, where exactly I would be staying until 2 weeks before arriving, and if the residence has a laundry or not. Thankfully the hotel I'm staying at, has both a washing machine and a dryer, though in the cellar, for every resident to use. So it meant I could at least keep clothing limited.
EF offers to arrange flights from Germany to Korea. Unfortunately, only from two airports in Germany, and non of them near my parents. So it would have meant either traveling by plane, train or rental car to these airports, or organizing the flights myself. The advantage was, that I could decide which flight company I would take and how long stay-overs would be. Taking into account, that most flights - at least in Europe - nowadays are delayed, I didn't want to risk getting stuck somewhere due to the incompetence of others.
I decided for Turkish Airways. Though the German-Turkish relationship is a bit strained right now, Turkish Airways has a good reputation and statistics in crashes. This shouldn't be your concern, but I just watched "Mayday - Air Desaster" way to often. 😅 I could have taken a connection flight with a stay over for 1,5 h. But, as I wasn't sure, if the plane would start on time and how big/complicated the Istanbul airport is, I decided for a 6 h stay-over. Enough time for delays and finding your gate and even eat something valuable.
Only negative point using Turkish Airways and therefore having to use Istanbul as transfer airport is, I have to say, the security check in Turkey. It was hasty and not really thorough. In today's time, not the best decision.
Both flights were eventless. It bit shaky from time to time, that eating your meals and drinking was a bit challenging. My seating neighbor even spilled her water over me. Thankfully, it wasn't the red wine she also had ordered. Unfortunately, Turkish Airways didn't offer any food from the destination country. Usually, flight companies offer two menus, one of the company's origin country and one for the destination. Same for the entertainment. Though I was lucky to even listen to BTS' latest Japanese album.
Immigration in Korea is pretty easy, like most things in Korea. Thanks to Korean technology, when your passport was scanned, they tell you to put your fingers on the scanner in your own language. On the plane they hand out the registration cards for immigration and for "importing goods" if you have packed anything, that isn't allowed in Korea. You don't need to fill these out on the plane right away. There are several points on the way to the immigration desks to fill them out, or get new ones. Pens are provided at these desks as well. Everything worked pretty fine, until I took my suitcase from the treadmill. My lock has been opened and not properly closed again. So I was running around with a extra bag for the commute, that I actually wanted to store in that suit case. Not so nice for a 1h 45 min. travel with some changing and trying to find your hotel. The latter one being the bigger problem. I will come to this problem and how to solve it a bit later.
Before I arrived in Korea I had to think about how to stay in contact with my home country, family and friends. If it was wiser to get a second SIM card or just make sure that I have cheap internet connection. I decided for the internet connection. I don't take phone calls when I'm home. Sure as hell, won't do it in Korea. Several Korean telecommunication companies offer so called Wifi eggs, a mobil internet router. Perfect for shorter vacations. If you're staying longer, like for a few months, and love to talk with home, a second SIM card might be smarter. The SIM card can be obtained at the airport directly. Sources say, it's cheaper there, than in Seoul itself. So inform yourself, where to get everything. SK Telecom offers rented mobil phones, SIM cards and Wifi eggs. Ordering/renting can be done online beforehand, either on their website or on distributors like trazy.com. The pick-up was very easy as well and the prices reasonable. KT Telecom offers the same service. It can also be ordered and found on the trazy website. SK and KT Telecom both have Wifi router in every metro train, as far as I know. So if you buy/rent a SIM or even mobile phone, you're save with these two companies.
EF offers their students to take a taxi with the help of an EF employee. But as I was fine with traveling with public transportation, I chose to take the metro. Pretty easy progress, if you know where you have to go to. Taking public transportation tickets are a necessity. When staying more than a few days, the T-Money card is the best choice. Offering diverse pictures on the front, they all work the same. At the clerks desk at any convenient store (like CS), where you buy the card, you can load it right away with an amount of your choice. 20,000 Won (approx. $20) is a good start. If you don't use all of it, it stays on the card for several years. I used my one about 4 years ago. Nothing got lost.
If you're just staying for a day or two, there a special tourist T-Money cards, with benefits for sightseeing entrances. I had one at my first travel, but it didn't work for the N Seoul Tower. So you might have to be prepared, that it isn't always excepted.
You have several options getting into the city: either taxi, bus, by express train or underground. Train takes less time, but might take you further into the city than needed and may cost more. The underground/metro takes longer, as it is an all-stop train, but you can get off, when needed. Be careful with taxis, as you better have the address written down, preferably in Korean or speak clear Korean without an accent. They might take you to the other side of town, to where you actually wanted to be. And you might get stuck in traffic like every car. The bus is a good option as well, depending on your time of arrival and how strong your stomach is. Be aware, that rush hour times here are around 5 to 8 p.m. You don't want to get stuck in traffic there. Don't know about the early rush hour times. Though, in some areas of town, buses have their own lane. With these airport busses you'll have to name your exit station, so the bus driver can insert the right charge into the T-Money card reader. Baggage is stored in special compartments at the busses belly. You'll get a receipt for your luggage, so you get the right one out at your arrival. If you choose the metro, follow the signs stating "all-stop".
Tumblr media
Commuting with the underground is pretty easy, as everything is signed out. Even if you are actually on the right track, before you even step into the metro. Just know the next station for your direction. But it's wiser to know beforehand which bigger metro station is on that track, as most of the times, while changing from one line to another, they only show bigger transfer stations, that might connect you to another line. So better you have a plan at hand to look after which stop are on your direction.
After getting your T-Money card and have it charged with your money, just follow the signs with trains stated. It takes a bit of walking but nothing compared to finding the right bus or getting the taxi driver to understand clearly where you want to go. Before getting to the tracks you will have to scan your T-Money card to get in. Always be sure to scan them again, when leaving the train station (and bus) and sometimes even when changing the trains. This way the right amount of money will be discounted.
You will find that there are glass fronts all along the train track at the station. A way to prevent suicides or like in Germany getting pushed onto the tracks by some stranger.
Something you should prepare in advance as well, is to figure out, where exactly you have to leave your train station. Not just the right station but also the right exit. There are usually around 6 to 8 exits and more, which can be quite far away from each other as whole shopping areas are located at those stations. Your hotel or bigger sightseeing attractions will usually tell you which exit is the best to leave the station. And by the way, you actually don't need to speak/read Korean when visiting Seoul. Almost everyone speaks at least a little bit of English, more so the younger generations. And every street, metro or other signs are written in Latin/Roman writings. Just smaller shops go with Korean writing. But some necessary words are easy to learn beforehand.
It took me quite long, though to find my hotel. It was a little hidden in a side road. And Google Maps isn't really helpful, as you cannot just give in the address. Naver or Kakao Maps might give you better options and fresher cards. Both also help you taking the right train.
The hotel I'm staying at offers breakfast for an extra charge, which is pretty good. But I decided to get the food for myself. You find most stuff, somewhere around. Still have to find a decent supermarket, though, that isn't into luxury. But basic food, snacks and ready made food can be bought in nearly all convenient stores. And you usually find like 3 and more right around the next corner. And the choice in Ramyeon is beyond expectation.
I stayed at the Urban Place, a nice hotel with good equipments. There are other possibilities to stay, which are usually not more than a few square meters with a toilet/shower cabin, if at all. So if you don't want to spend a huge amount of money, don't expect luxury in all four corners. My room is equipped with a small fridge (really small), a small cooking area with the minimum of kitchen equipment. Shower and toilet are separated and TV and Wifi are included. TV also offers a few British programs and Arirang, a Korean TV station in English.
This was probably more than enough information on arriving and what to do, to get around.

DESI DISCOVERS!
June 30, 1974
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BY BEN FALKE, Sunday Group Writer
Who says they never come back? At 57 and in better physical condition than he's been in for years, Desi Arnaz has finished a pilot which he hopes NBC will convert to a prime time series.
The show is called "Dr. Domingo” and it's about a doctor in a small northern California town who adds to his income by acting as the local coroner and medical examiner.
"He's a cross between Marcus Welby and Columbo," says Arnaz gleefully.  If "Domingo" never makes it as a series, Arnaz has four or five other projects in his hopper more than enough to justify the rent on his office at Universal, just around the corner from Lucille Ball Productions. (1)
Desi, who invented television reruns and syndication of hit shows, feels he still has some contributions to make to the medium he did so much to shape 25 years ago.
MENTION ARNAZ' name and most people think first of "I Love Lucy," those 180 merry half hours which, ever since they went into syndication, have been showing somewhere in the world virtually every hour of every day. A New York critic complained recently that one station in that city was showing "I Love Lucy" reruns five times a day!
Those who remember TV credit lines also recall Arnaz as the producer and occasional director of "The Untouchables," another series with gargantuan longevity. (2) Then there was "Desilu Playhouse," a quality anthology series which introduced many top film and stage stars to the small screen. Not to mention shows like "December Bride," "The Mothers-In-Law," "Guestward-Ho," and others whose ghosts still enliven daytime television.
"I quit the business in 1960 because it got to be a monster," Arnaz recalls now. (Actually, he says it "beez-ness" his Cuban accent still as thick as ever).
"At the beginning, It was fun but when you art in charge of three studios, with 3,000 people and 35 sound stages working all the time, the fun is long gone."
He and Lucy, after many stormy off-camera scenes, were newly divorced then, so Arnaz moved quietly out of Los Angeles to breed horses farther south, in Del Mar, and to fish and build a showplace hideaway house at Las Cruces in Baja California. He married again in 1967, to a non-show biz lady who shared his love of horses, and he even found time to teach a course in television at San Diego State College. (3)
Tumblr media
DESPITE THE FACT that he is (he says) far from the multi-millionaire which all those reruns of "Lucy" and "The Untouchables" might lead you to suspect, Arnaz claims that it isn't money pressure that's bringing him back to work now.
“I'm okay for money if I don't live too long," he says with a chuckle. "The funny thing is that I never really cared that much about making money just for the sake of making money. I wanted to be able to take care of my family and to live well which I've done. The rest you never see anyway."
What prompted this particular comeback was a call from MCA-Universal boss Lew Wasserman last Christmas. "Lew used to be my agent when I first came out to Hollywood in 1940," Arnaz reminisces. "To show how low he was on the totem pole in those days, he used to pick me up at my house every morning and drive me to work and I was only making $1,500 a week!
"But Lew called me last Christmas and said, 'What are you going to do - play golf and fish for the rest of your life? Why not come to Universal and develop one show at a time? We'll handle all of those administrative details that you hate you just concentrate on the creative end.'
"Well, that sounded very appealing. I already had the idea for 'Dr. Domingo' from an old paperback mystery that somebody left in our Baja house, and to tell the truth, I was beginning to miss show business. After all, I've been in it since I was 16!"
SO NOW this onetime boy bongo player (4), bandleader and star of many a film musical before he and Lucy developed TV situation comedy, is back behind a producer's desk.
"Television comedy has changed a lot since we did 'I Love Lucy,'" he admits. "I don't think you could do a show like 'Lucy' now but some of the things we learned from doing it are still important. "You still have to have a viable premise, not only for the series as a whole but for each individual episode.
"You also need a cast that works together to produce a kind of chemistry. The audience has to like them as people as well as characters in the show.
"That's where we were so lucky with 'Lucy.' I found Vivian Vance playing a prostitute in a play in La Jolla (5) and signed her up on the spot. Then I said to myself, 'What have you done, you mad Cubano? Suppose Lucy doesn't like her?' Luckily, they got along splendidly from the start it could have been a disaster."
Tumblr media
How did he invent the rerun?
"I didn't do it on purpose, I swear," he says jokingly. "I never even allowed reruns of 'Lucy' during the summer which was only 13 weeks in those days. But the reruns got started because we made the big decision to do the show on film instead of doing it live the first time anybody had thought of it.
"They wanted us to do the show live in New York in front of an audience. Lucy works best in front of people. But we didn't want to move to New York; we had just bought a new house and we liked it in California.
"When CBS bought the show, they gave us a total budget of $19,500 a week -  you can't even hiccup on television for that now. I said to them, 'Let us film the show in California, that way you'll have a much better quality print... and we can stay here.'
"They wanted to know how much more it would cost that way; I had no idea so I picked a number out of the air - $5,000 more a week. Now Lucy and I had been getting $5,000 a week between us, plus 50 percent of all rights in the show.
"CBS came back and said okay, they'd give us the extra $5,000 if we would take a salary cut to $4,000 a week. Again out of the blue, I said, 'Okay but then we have to own 100 percent of the show' never thinking they'd say yes. But they agreed, and we wound up owning everything."
ASIDE FROM such show business triumphs, Arnaz gets most pleasure from talking about his family his daughter Lucie, and son Desi Jr.
Desi Jr. began his film career with "Red Sky at Morning"; his latest picture is "Billy Two-Hats." (6)
"I always' knew Desi would make' it," his father says now, "but Lucie was always so stiff and shy when we brought her on the show that I thought she'd be a teacher or something. I never dreamed she'd want to act. But she has just landed the lead role in the touring company of 'Seesaw,' so big things could be happening for her, too." (7)
Arnaz is currently putting his life together into a book, for which he reportedly is getting a $125,000 advance. (8) Despite the stormy scenes he and Lucy used to have when they were married, he says it won't say anything bad about his former wife, co-star and business partner.
"We're friends now," he insists. "We gave a little family party for young Desi on his 21st birthday last year. I looked over at the two kids standing together and said to Lucy, 'If we never did anything else, that makes it all worthwhile.' And she agreed."

FOOTNOTES FROM THE FUTURE
Tumblr media
(1) “Doctor Domingo” did not become a series.  The character was introduced on an episode of “Ironside” titled “Riddle at 24,000″ as a ‘backdoor’ pilot.  It aired March 14, 1974.
Tumblr media
(2) Desi was never credited as director of any episodes of “The Untouchables”. That doesn’t mean he didn’t step in or assist, as he did on some episodes of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”, but he was never credited.
Tumblr media
(3) On March 2, 1963, Desi married Edith Eyre Skimming Mack Hirsch aka Edie in Las Vegas, Nevada. The remained married until her death in 1985, just a year and a half before Arnaz’s passing.
(4) Conga drums, not bongos. This is a frequent error by journalists.
Tumblr media
(5) Vivian Vance was appearing in the 1943 John Van Druten play “The Voice of the Turtle” at La Jolla Playhouse. Vance had also appeared in the play in the mid-1940s when she had a nervous breakdown, and had to leave the cast.  She played Olive Lashbrooke, described as “a promiscuous, worldly girl, questioning the practicality of the lessons in chastity she received as a child and wondering if she is alone in her passion.”  Vance, who had Broadway credits, did not appear in the Broadway production. When the film was made, Olive was played by Eve Arden.  Vance acted opposite KT Stevens, who played Mrs. O’Brien (the new tenant plotting to ‘blow up the capitol’) on “I Love Lucy.”  In some productions, Hayden Rorke (Mr. O’Brien) also appeared in the play.
Tumblr media
(6) Red Sky at Morning was released in May 1971. Desi Arnaz Jr. won a Golden Globe as Most Promising Newcomer, Male. His character was named Billy...
Tumblr media
Billy was also his character name in Billy Two Hats, released in March 1974.
Tumblr media
(7) Lucie Arnaz has stated that she never appeared on “I Love Lucy.”  Desi is probably referring to her early appearances on “The Lucy Show” as Cynthia, a character seldom seen but often spoken about.  From Hartford in April 1974 to Los Angeles in September 1974, Lucie toured the Broadway musical Seesaw to a dozen cities with John Gavin and Tommy Tune.
Tumblr media
(8) Desi Arnaz’s autobiography was titled A Book.  It was first published in 1976 by Warner Books. It covers Desi’s life up until 1960.  In 2018, an audiobook was released read by Juan Pablo Di Pace.

Hi I saw your post with pictures from binding and I was wondering if you have any advice for someone who wants to start. Also where did you get that binding tape? I think I’d really like to use that but I have no idea where to get it.
Hello!  so the two methods of binding I use are a 1. gc2b binder and 2. kinesthetic tape.  there’s pros and cons to both that I’ll discuss here.
but before i word vomit all of that at you, here’s an article with some solid binding advice and some generic big brother advice:
if binding makes you more comfortable, then go for it.  if it doesn’t, then don’t. your personal gender experience is just that-- personal.  don’t let anyone tell you what you have to do.
don’t hurt yourself.  being trans isn’t Market yet, the stuff designed for us is experimental, there’s gonna be a lot of trial and error. you’ll figure out what feels right.
try and have fun with it?  i know that sounds bogus, especially if your chest dysphoria is a major source of discomfort, but hear me out.  we don’t have a cis experience. our boyhood is going to look different than cis boyhood, and it’s going to look different than other peoples’ boyhood, because everyone (cis or trans) is a whole unique person!  there are no “should”s and there are no “have to”s.  being trans doesn’t mean you have to suffer through every experience.  love yourself, even the parts of yourself you wish were different or plan on changing, and you’ll have a lot more fun in life.
following trans guys on social media can help a lot.  i follow @mars.wright and @little.sun.boy and a bunch of others.  go find your brothers.
also Miles Chronicles on youtube makes me feel 100x better about being a person, but i’ve been following him since 2015 so. Y’know.
GC2B
i haven’t worn an underworks binder, but i’ve heard good things.  this brand has done really well for me.  keep in mind, i’m 5′8″ tall, 140lbs, b-cup chest size, with a pretty androgynous torso situation.  I don’t have a lot of curves to deal with.
pros:
the gc2b binder flattens me out entirely
it’s not too difficult to get in and out of
and it’s mostly comfortable.
easy to wash
didn’t shrink in the dryer
the customer service people emailed me back really quickly to help me figure out sizing when I first got it, and were super chill and polite
ALSO i have asthma, but have had Very Rare binder complications. i ride my bike around the whole city wearing this thing, have swam in it, and even worked out a few times wearing it (don’t do that) and haven’t had issues any greater than I would have NOT wearing it
cons:
i get back aches about 6-8 hours into wearing it, which listen. i know that’s the time limit anyways, but when you work 8-10 hour shifts you don’t have a lot of options, okay?
holds heat like a motherfucker.  i live somewhere very hot and very humid, and some days a twenty minute walk will just about heatstroke me.  these things do not breathe.
(i’ve also heard of people having issues with the straps showing under the neckline of some t-shirts. i haven’t had this problem, but i’m also not Stealth so i’m not hyperaware of it either.)
TRANS TAPE
okay so i’ve used both the on brand which was fantastic and the off brand which was... fine.
Trans tape pros:
comfortable as all get out, i hardly realize i’m wearing it
can wear it for multiple days in a row without having to mess with it (isn’t it great to just. not have to think about your boobs? yeah)
very subtle under clothing.  you can wear tank tops and nobody will know.  you can wear your shirts real open! it’s great
doesn’t give you the sausage feeling you can get from being squeezed into a binder
lots of videos online showing you how to put it on
with some practice, totally flattened me out.  just as good as the binder.  if you don’t stretch it tight enough you’ll still have rounded breast shapes (reminder: i’m speaking specifically for my body type.  if i was born without these boys on my chest, i would be totally flat naturally.  some men have a rounder chest.  it just depends on your body type)
trans tape cons:
hurts like a son of a bitch if you don’t take it off correctly.  which is to say: Oil. Yourself. Down.  I use vegetable oil, because I bought a huge thing from the dollar store for cooking anyways and have this weird “thing” about buying self care products.  whatever.  but it sticks Very Well and you cannot take it off dry without hurting yourself.  expect some stinging in the removal process anyways.  the easiest time i had was after wearing it for five days (showering in it twice) and trying to take it off while it was still a little damp.  nearly painless.  you’ll figure yourself out.
can be itchy? cause you’re putting glue on your skin.  depends how sensitive your skin is.  the itching wasn’t intense for me, and didn’t last very long, but it was a thing.
Don’t. Put. Deodorant. On. Before. The. Tape.  the tape won’t stick under your arms and it’s super annoying.  deodorant after.
kinesthetic tape pros:
works ALMOST as good as the traps tape
a little more affordable
same results
KT cons:
not sized the same, comes in narrower strips, so you have to use more pieces to get the same result.
not quite as stretchy and comfortable, but still worked well enough (might just have been the brand I bought?  but honestly, if i’m gonna spend the money for KT Tape(tm) I might as well just buy Trans Tape(tm) )
Left welts and sore spots on my skin, and was not worn for the same amount of time (it’s not designed for this the way Trans Tape is, so there’s a little trial and error with it)

[Image shows three spoons on a laptop keyboard. Overlaid is a clip art of torn white notebook paper with a red paper clip that reads “#This Is My EDS Part 2” with a zebra head. In the bottom left corner is the banner for Thee Crohnie Grace]
Part two of the #ThisIsMyEDS Tag is all about Diagnosis with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome since diagnosis often doesn’t occur until later in life and is under diagnosed since it can cause an array of different problems per person.
1) How Long Did Your Diagnosis Take? When and how were you ultimately diagnosed?  It took 18 years before I was diagnosed. Due to having Crohn’s since I was little, many doctors blamed my problems on Crohn’s and it’s related issues. At one point my GI had put on me Celebrex because he believed I had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis because it is common with Crohn’s. When the joint pain and joint related issues began to get worse they finally sent me to a Rheumatologist who told me I had Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and no arthritis, and after a genetic study it was determined I had the COL5A2 mutation that is linked with Classical Ehlers Danlos.
2) What was your emotional reaction when you were diagnosed? And Now? Honestly it was a huge relief to know it wasn’t all in my head, that I had validation, and relief to just have an answer. Of course then there was a bout of sadness over the lack of treatments and the fear of getting worse. Now I’ve just kind of accepted things and am at peace with my health overall.
3) When did you first start experiencing symptoms? When did you acknowledge them as symptoms? When I was 9 I started getting bad joint pain, around the same time I started Remicade for my Crohn’s disease, I assumed it was just a side effect of medicine and wasn’t until other problems surfaced that I began to suspect something was off.
4) Was there a specific age where your head drastically changed? If so, when was that? My junior year and that summer were when things really started causing problems. I had lost a lot of weight from a bad Crohn’s flare and the weakness and fatigue made the pain even worse, things were subluxating and dislocating more frequently and I started using a cane because I found standing and walking to be incredibly painful and I felt off balance quite frequently because I put all my weight on whichever side hurt the less.
5) What medicines, treatments, and/or devices do you typically need? Do you have access to all your needs? I have access to all my needs really. Medicine wise I rely on pain medication and lots of medication for comorbidities such as gastroparesis and POTS. I have an NJ feeding tube that keeps me nourished and keeps my medicine in my system. Mobility device wise I use a walker on a every day basis and a wheelchair as needed for longer events or things that require a more extensive amount of walking. I also use braces and KT tape on a regular basis due to joints dislocating or subluxating.
[Image shown at the top left shows my thighs and knees sitting in a car, my left leg has a brace and my right leg is taped with pink and purple KT tape. Image shown at the top right shows me sitting in a wheelchair in a cafeteria with my brother standing behind me holding his phone down for me to see while our friend stands to the left looking at his phone. Image at the bottom shows me in my dining room from the thighs up, my hands resting on the handles of my walker, I’m in white shorts and a pink shirt with some planets and text that says “Far Out”]
6) How often do you go to the hospital? How comfortable are you in medical environments?  I go to the hospital for follow ups with specialists and procedures as necessary, I tend to avoid the ER unless it’s for something that can be handled locally (like my kidney stones) because all my main doctors are 4 hours away at Cincinnati so we can usually schedule a direct admit to avoid the hassle of dealing with an ER since they are not usually equipped to deal with chronic issues. Honestly in a hospital I am pretty comfortable now (I used to not be) but I still get very uncomfortable in ERs due to many ERs not knowing how to handle chronic illnesses and such.
7) What kind of resources and support do you use?  My family and friends are really my main support. There’s not many sources around here so I rely on doctors and in depth research when it comes to questions and resources.
And that concludes part 2! We are nearing the end of May and there is still one segment left so stay tuned and remember that when the month ends, awareness shouldn’t stop there. Spreading awareness can help by gaining the attention of others, raising money for research which could lead to treatments or resources for EDSers everywhere.
#ThisIsMyEDS Part 2 Part two of the #ThisIsMyEDS Tag is all about Diagnosis with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome since diagnosis often doesn't occur until later in life and is under diagnosed since it can cause an array of different problems per person.

The Return of a Rusty Pilot, Just in Time for a Global Pandemic
After years of accumulated rust in my logbook, a friend and senior mentor at work, who is also CFII, was admiring the Boeing 737 poster hanging in my office one day when he mentioned he knew of a 182 fractional ownership opportunity. “You know what? I have a 182 poster behind that 737!” I said as I took down the poster and opened the frame to reveal the circa early 2000s Skylane cockpit facing Sporty’s Pilot Shop. The admiration continued for a few more minutes, and a lightbulb clicked. Fast forward six months, and I had reinstated my third class medical and was a new partner of vintage Skylane ready to start my first lesson in 13 years.
For the next three months I re-learned the basics that were buried way way back in my subconscious, and I got familiar with a few new things, like the constant-speed prop and electronic flight bags. I also took my instructor’s inaugural instrument ground school, newly prepared for a handful of local VFR pilots. On March 16, after just over 21 hours of instruction, I received my first-ever BFR, complete with a high performance endorsement.
A reminder of the dream…
And on March 17, our tiny airport closed its terminal’s doors. The world was in chaos, and through the rest of March and April, flying took a backseat to surviving the pandemic. But part of that survival was keeping our young children (ages 3 and 1) occupied, and our solution was frequent trips to the hangar and biking among the hangars and along the taxiways. As talk of opening things back up increased, we decided this would be a great time to put the bird to good use by taking the kids to see their grandparents in Kansas. We decided to introduce the kids to flying gradually. So one Saturday in April, I installed the car seats in the back, and we taxied around Los Alamos Airport (LAM) for 15 minutes.
I started flying again the first week in May. After standing in the hangar for 20 minutes, gazing at the wind sock and psyching myself up to tackle the “8G12KT” crosswind, I completed my first solo in over a decade. Three days later, with car seats installed again, I took our family sightseeing over Taos and Lake Abiquiu. A week later, a slightly longer cross country flight with a 45-minute stopover. The next week, another family flight, and a 2.5 hr solo cross country. I racked up 13 hours in May, which was almost 15% of all my hours up to that point. We were almost ready for Kansas. There was just one thing left I needed to do.
When my instructor was ready to teach again, we scheduled a ground school (wearing masks) to brush up on a few things, and a few days later, a short dual lesson (also wearing masks) to solidify that discussion with action.
For my first-ever long cross country, family in tow, during a global pandemic, our mission was to trek to Kansas for a week. In the days leading up to our departure date, I watched the weather like a hawk. We wanted to leave early in the morning, but if schedules and weather worked out better for the afternoon, so be it. Friday morning, I preflighted the plane and installed the car seats. That afternoon was looking iffy, but we might have a two-hour window around noon. As the morning passed, the clouds over the mountains in our flight path grew to cumulonimbus. We were packed and ready, but as the outlook grew worse, I made the no-go decision. We’d try again first thing Saturday morning. And good thing too, because that afternoon and evening, the radar suggested storms would have been chasing us for our entire flight, and the possibility of finding ourselves in a bad situation was very real.
We woke up at 4:30 Saturday morning. I weighed our luggage one last time, we got the kids up and ready, and I headed to the airport to load up and do one more preflight. Everything looked good. After a short run up, we lined up with the runway. I’d never flown this heavy (still well below max gross limit). I knew that ground roll would be longer than I was used to, and everything was fine, but the experience was nonetheless surprising. Wheels were up by 6:40 am.
The weather was perfect, and we had a generous tailwind on our route to Liberal, Kansas. The 3-year old slept quite a bit, but the 1-year old cried for about half of the first leg. Communications with air traffic controllers had become more fluid, and I was comfortable with flight following handoffs as we crossed into Texas, then Oklahoma, and into Kansas. Liberal’s AWOS winds were reported to be down the runway at 14G25KT, and short-final was bumpy. We found the (fantastic) FBO, gassed up, got a clean windshield, and relaxed for about an hour before loading up again for the next leg to Wichita. Remembering my instructor’s discussion on density altitudes below which leaning isn’t required, I took off nearly full rich. This was my first time taking off in this airplane below 5000 ft. MSL. Even fully loaded, with the winds as strong as they were, we were in the air quicker than I expected. After leaving the pattern and a quick call to Kansas City Center for flight following, we were on our way.
The second leg was just as smooth, and the calm afforded me the opportunity to rehearse Class C communications in my head a few times. I was a little nervous as we approached 30 miles out from ICT, and as a result as we got closer, I forgot to switch from Approach to Tower. I got a gentle reminder from the controller. Lucky for us that, again, winds were right down the runway (19L). Another smooth landing, and a short taxi to the FBO. Part one of the mission accomplished!
The Wooten flight crew, ready for an adventure. (Photo credit: Julia Kennedy)
Although our goal was to stay a week, our earlier experience reminded us of the importance of being flexible. To make sure we were home by a deadline, it became clear that we’d have to cut our trip short by a couple of days to avoid what looked like three solid days of thunderstorms between us and home base, spanning our intended departure dates. While an early morning departure would have been ideal, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend a little time with the great-grandparents the next morning. So our goal was to depart by noon.
The FBO had the plane topped off and ready to go when I arrived. Another installation of the car seats, preflight, and we were ready to go. We were wheels-up shortly after noon, headed to Dalhart, Texas. This ride was long, bumpy, and hot. The sky was clear but slightly hazy, and those generous tailwinds from our eastbound trip turned into a 12-kt headwind. After a one hour break and fuel up at another friendly FBO, we headed out for the final leg.
And it is during this leg that I applied every bit of piloting skill I had ever learned. Just south of Las Vegas, we seemed to enter a golden haze, with smoke blowing in from the wildfires blazing across Arizona for the past several days. I didn’t notice anything mentioned in the weather briefing, but the hazy smoke most certainly obscured mountains and the ground below, reducing visibility to less than 5 miles. Add to that, the crosswind gusts at home base exceeded 30 kts, which meant the possibility of diverting.
I notified ATC of my intent to descend to maintain visual contact with Interstate 25 and turned southbound to stay clear of the mountains that I knew were there but could not see. And I diligently exercised the instrument scan I’d learned in IFR ground school just a few months earlier. After flying at about 3000 ft. AGL for 15 minutes while maintaining visual reference to the interstate, the smoke mostly cleared and the winds at home base had calmed down. I decided to head home. Winds were a quartering tailwind at 8G15 kts. On short final, things got bumpy again, and it wasn’t the prettiest crosswind landing, but we arrived home safe and sound.
So that is my return from being rusty, to having completed a 1000-mile round trip long cross country with my wife, two toddlers, and 70 lbs of luggage—all during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m so lucky to have a supportive family, an awesome instructor, and a beautiful Skylane.

Joe’s Weather Blog: A lot of you are getting grumpy about the winter (TUE-2/19)
So much winter. I remember back in January sometime…I think it was towards the early part of the month when I was randomly speculating IF the warmer weather we were enjoying was, in fact, our somewhat typical January thaw, except it was about 2-3 weeks early. It feels like that now. We have been persistently chilly…the snow on the ground isn’t helping and we’re about to add more snow on top of the snow on the ground. There should be some big-time melting heading into the weekend associated with storm #4 but the longer term trends are colder than average…there won’t be an early spring it appears and that darn groundhog failed the Plains this year.
Forecast:
Today: Increasing and lowering clouds but overall we should be fine through the middle of the afternoon. No issues to get around through 4PM (at least). Highs near 30°
Tonight: Snow quickly arrives from the south…there might be a little melting on the pavement at first but the snow should fall quick and hard for many areas for a few hours tonight. It appears most of our accumulations will have to happen by about 1-2AM or so tomorrow morning. Accumulations will be in the 3-6″ range. 6″ does seem to be a bit on the high side of the totals to me this morning…so I would count on 3-4″ for the KC Metro area…some 5″ers perhaps on the northern side of the Metro and some 2-3″ers on the farther south side of the KC Metro area. There will be a conversion to some freezing rain/drizzle/mist overnight. IF that conversion doesn’t take place…we could see an extra inch of snow.
Wednesday: Lots of clouds with hopefully some PM sunshine at some point. SW winds will help to start the melting process. This will be a wetter snow compared to last Friday. Better snowman making snow for the kids at least. Highs near 32°
Thursday: Not too bad with highs in the 30s. Average is near 45° though.
Discussion:
We’ll get to the snow situation towards the back half of the blog.
Let’s sort of put all this snow into perspective since I’ve been showing these stats on the air and some of you don’t read the weather blog day in and day out.
So far this winter we’re up to 23.3″ of snow.
Average for an entire winter in the KC area is 18.8″
For the winter season to date (that’s important) we’ve had the 21st fastest start to the snow season.
We will be going up that ranking after tonight and tomorrow early morning.
4. Overall though when you look at the previous winter snows…and put the current 23.3″ into that…this ranks as the 46th snowiest winter in KC weather history going back to the 1880s. Obviously after tonight we’ll go up that list a few more notches. Heck if KCI gets 4″ or so…we’ll vault into the Top 30!
If you’re wondering about the Top 10 in KC…
You can see the standout winters of 09-10 and 10-11 in the top 10 rankings.
2012-13 was another big winter with over 31″ of snow.
So it’s been awhile.
Something else that is sort of interesting is the track of these systems during FEB…at least at the surface…courtesy Ralphs Weather OBS (@WeatherNut27)
Let’s go back another month to January…
The 1/11-13 storm was the one that nailed us pretty good…and for the month we had over 9″ of snow @ KCI.
Most of those tracks are good ones for snow in the region. There have been some hybrid tracks too. For example the system coming through tonight…it’s a weird one…if you were to show me this forecast map for most winters (this map is valid Wednesday morning) I would probably tell you we wouldn’t get much, if any, snow.
Mother Nature doesn’t like being boxed in though…and that is the case tonight.
Another thing before the snow talk…that is the crazy fast jet stream that is above the USA right now. Let’s go up to about 35,000 feet or so or around the 200 mb level…and look at the river of air flowing through the USA. This is from last night.
Remember last week when we talked about the various weather balloon launches around North America…some 100 or so. That data is on the above map. The winds are measured in knots. 100 kts=115 MPH. Each bold “flag” above is a 50 kt flag…2 of them would be 100 kts and 3 would be 150 kts.
So the air way up there above the KC area is flying along…like the water in a fast moving and funneled river of water at close to 150 kts or close to 175 mph!
What’s fascinating is that when they launched the weather balloon yesterday in Dodge City, KS…it flew towards the ENE. It rises to around 100,000 feet and then pops and falls down. Odds are it’s somewhere in a field in central KS.
…Our weather balloon is going to get the heck out of Dodge tonight… This is a forecast flight trajectory of tonight's weather balloon/radiosonde journey. Starts right here in Dodge, whisked away by a 170-180 mph jet, finally lands SE of Salina/middle of the state of KS. #kswx pic.twitter.com/IXE0PV9pHs

So IF a plane catches that jet stream…let’s say it’s flying from LA to London…
Virgin Galactic flight 8 was clocked earlier heading NE at 801mph (GPS based ground speed) as a result of an anomalous jet stream core located over the E US – https://t.co/ut6ENOHI5A pic.twitter.com/ROC3bw5Omg

Why do airlines love flying with a tailwind…because 1) it gets people to their destination faster and 2) it saves them a LOT of money.
How crucial is weather information for airlines? Take this Boeing 747. It burns about 5,700lbs of fuel per hr at cruise. By catching this intense jet stream, it could cut 1-2hrs off the trip which would save BA 1,700 gallons of Jet-A @ 4-5 bucks per gallon. On this one flight. pic.twitter.com/fp6NvC4jrs

$4/gallon of jet fuel x’s 1700 gallons = about $7000 in savings!
Last night the air was flowing at around 230 MPH over Long Island, NY…the strongest winds EVER observed up there since balloons have been launched…that’s pretty amazing!
201 knots on the evening weather balloon launch appears to be a record for OKX at 250 hPa. Records go back to 1957 (when balloons were launched at Idlewild Airport). pic.twitter.com/kQqprM3qkY

Amazing stuff really.
Onwards to the situation for tonight.
3-6″ is still a good forecast. Again that 6″ highside number may be tough to reach in the Metro but odds are it will get close towards NW MO and parts of NE KS.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the region with Winter Storm Warnings towards the north of KC into NW MO and NE KS.
Here is a look at radar. You may see activity out there on radar through early this afternoon but most, if not all of the returns will be evaporating before they reach the ground…let’s call it “snirga” instead of virga (the real word to use). Heck if I can talk about dippin’ dots as much as I talked about dippin’ dots over the weekend because of what happened on Saturday…
The key time to watch is around 4-7 PM or so..we’d love for the snow to hold off and get us through rush hour without too many issues. IF the snow arrives early…there may be some wet roads (some melting) then slushy to slick roads…so IF we can have this hold off till after rush that would be a positive.
Once it really gets going we should have several hours of moderate to at times heavy snow bursts moving through the region through the 1AM hour…so the bulk of the accumulation will have to happen before that time I think. That’s about 6 hours or so of 1/2″/hour (average) snow rates…and maybe an 1-2 hour of 1″/hour rates. That should get us an easy 3″ of snow for many areas.
Here is the HRRR model indicating the snow timing…hopefully this will auto-update for you through the day/night.
From there let’s see what happens with the dreaded and fast moving dry slot, that while not shutting down ALL the snow, will remove the better moisture in the more favored area of the atmosphere where snow likes to form. When that moisture is removed you can get areas of freezing drizzle/mist/rain to move through, perhaps adding to a light glaze on top of the snow. This dry slot may cut the amounts towards the SE of KC especially and also farther south.
Areas farther north though won’t get into that dry slot till sometime after 3AM Wednesday..more snow production=higher totals up to the north and perhaps northwest of KC.
Confidence levels…average totals
Dusting to 2″: 100%
2-4″: 100%
4-6″: 60% (towards the lower side of that)
Over 6″: 10%
Over 10″: 0%
Again widespread 3-6″ seems to be a good forecast with lower towards SE and higher towards the NW part of the state…5-7″ or so up there. I do think that 6″ is a real push for the KC Metro.
More or less a system that will be similar in amounts to what happened this past Friday. The snow characteristics will be wetter and not as dry as what happened this past Friday too…so that is better snowman and snowball type snow I think.

OK that’s it. Feel free to follow me on Twitter @fox4wx and also on FB (Joe Lauria Fox 4 Meteorologist) for more updates. I’ll do a FB live this evening…sometime around 8 or 8:15 or so like last night. It should be going pretty good by then.

Day 1. Wichita, KS – Santa Maria, CA
Tumblr media
Where I normally fly I usually start my flight planning the same morning of the flight. If it is a longer flight and I suspect unusual weather I take a brief look at the weather the night before and do some mental planning. When crossing half the US continent in February and then the Pacific Ocean, you start looking at the weather forecasts and reports well in advance. For the last few weeks I have been monitoring the weather along our planned route. We look at the constant shifting weather systems, the winds aloft at different levels and see what ground speed they give us with a given true airspeed. We study Area Forecasts and look at forecasted icing and how that will limit us. And the closer you get to the time of departure the clearer picture you have of the route ahead of you. The last few days and weeks the weather along our route has been quite miserable. When we did our final planning in the evening before there was a small chance that we would not be able to continue past Prescott, Arizona, due to icing at lower levels over California. So we decided to depart and have Prescott as a first alternate.
9:04am local time I departed from Wichita for the first 1,182nm (2,189km) leg to Santa Maria, California. The heaviest I have ever been in a caravan is 100kg above max takeoff weight. This was when I evacuated our remaining team out of Juba, South Sudan, after the fighting in July 2016. Today I was 1,000kg over and I was quite curious how it would feel. I had decided to add another 10kts to my takeoff speed, but the aircraft very eagerly wanted to get airborne at around 70 kts. I still kept it on the runway a little longer and also added another 10kts to my climb speed. I was positively surprised how well it performed at that weight.

Our minimum altitudes along the route varied between 6,000 and 12,000 feet. And the higher you went the stronger the winds. I leveled off at 12,000 feet with a depressing 45kt headwind. Later we experienced headwinds of 58 kts! Because of our heavy weight I also didn’t get as high true airspeed as I would normally get at max weight. The caravan was cruising with about 5 degree nose up. My GPS gave me an estimated time of arrival (ETA) in Santa Maria of 6:30pm local time. That would be 11,5 hours in the air on a flight we had planned to be 9:40. However, we had 16 hours of fuel on board, and I knew that the winds were changing enroute and were different at lower levels. I requested to descend to 10,000 feet and was very happy to see only(!) 35kts of headwind. My ETA now looked a lot better and it looked like I would make it before dark. After such a long flight I wanted to avoid landing at dark as fatigue then becomes more of a factor.

1 hour into the flight it was time to do my first fuel transfer. I’m glad that our first leg on this ferry flight was over land so that in case there was any issues with the tank system we would discover them before flying over water. This leg to Santa Maria gave us a chance to fill up the tanks and transfer fuel from all tanks into the wing. I timed the transfer and kept a log of it. The rate of the pumps is about 2 US gal per minute. So in 22 minutes I could transfer 1 hour worth of fuel into the wing tank. So as soon as my wing tank was down to 800 pounds I selected which tank to transfer from and started the pump and the timer. For timing we use the on-board stopwatch. But since it is good to have a reminder in case you get distracted by other issues we also have a simple egg timer sitting on top of the instrument panel. You don’t want to overfill the wing tank. The fuel would then go straight overboard through the tank vents.

Our caravans have the G100NXi avionics. And here in the US we have available in cockpit something called Nexrad weather radar service and XM weather. This gives us real-time weather information in cockpit. So enroute I could at any time check the weather at any location and also get a picture of possible weather along my track. It is amazingly accurate and gave me peace of mind as we progressed towards Santa Maria. Man would I have loved to have this when I was battling bad weather enroute the three hours to Renk in South Sudan, only having to turn back and return to Juba because of bad weather. That was my longest flight so far.
One of our alternates was Albuquerque in New Mexico. We knew the weather was beautiful there but I wanted to get some more info for the route ahead before continuing past Albuquerque. Another very helpful service they have here in the US is Flight Service Stations (FSS). You can get them on phone before you depart or you can call them on the radio on 122.2MHz. I called them up and a lovely lady replied, “N618MF, good morning! How can I help you?” After telling her my route and altitude she gave me a thorough briefing on the weather ahead of me. It was helpful to be able to talk to someone and get a second opinion on the weather. She advised me to contact them again when passing Phoenix to get another update. The radio was quite busy with airlines reporting turbulence and icing at higher levels. I have to say that at my levels it was mostly a very smooth ride and the temperatures were rarely below 3C. As we approached Prescott the weather reports and forecasts for California improved, the Airmet for icing was gone and I realized that we would make it all the way.
Tumblr media
Soon after being handed over to Los Angeles Center I was in and out of clouds most of the way until I approached Santa Maria. I landed 5:35pm local time, 8 minutes before sunset and 52 minutes longer than our planned flight time. We concluded that we were a little too optimistic with our true airspeed due to our heavy weight.
It was beautiful to finally get out of the plane in the warmer California evening. The time enroute went surprisingly fast. I wasn’t bored a minute and it was an amazing experience to fly across half the US and look down on the beautiful and shifting scenery.
