Music tags
The lovely @wanderlust-in-my-soul taged me in a combo of the song-tag and the 10-songs-on-your-playlist-right-now-tag, thank you so much for it, it made my day when I saw it and I had so much fun doing this. I only now found time to do a post about it, sadly work got in the way of it in the last couple of weeks.
Sooo, I'm going to combine those two tags into one mushed up tag of my 10 most loved and listended to songs.
song-tag rules: 🎶✨when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, publish. then, send this ask/tag 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) 🎶
10-songs-on-your-playlist-right-now-tag rules: you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to. put your playlist on shuffle and list the first ten songs, and then tag ten people. no skipping!
I'm listening to a quite strange mix of eighthies pop, funk, soul, light punk / rock and classic music. I love songs with a good melody and good lyrics and I need songs that make me want to dance or at least to jump around to.
Well then, lets beginn:
BROTHER LOVE - CRIMER
I just love his music and his voice, it sounds like the songs were produced in the eighthies but they actually are not older than five years. His music also makes me want do dance!
ANALYSE - THE CRANBERIES
It reminds me of my year abroad as a teen, of that time I could be myself for the first time, when nobody knew me and didn't have prejudices. It was such a good and important year for me.
FEEL SO GOOD - JAMIROQUAI
That song just makes me want to dance! Love Jamiroquai's sound.
MOCKINGBIRD - BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST
It's one of the more melancholic songs in my playlist. It is also an old song, it was produced in 1971 but it still captures me with it's melody and lyrics and that melancholic feeling of saying goodbye to someone loved.
WILLKOMMEN - ROSENSTOLZ
OMG that song. A bit rough, a bit political and just queer. It was the title song of the german coming-of-age movie "Sommersturm" and both the movie and the song left lasting impressions in younger me. Non-german speaking people, you'll find a rough translation of the lyrics under https://lyricstranslate.com/en/willkommen-welcome.html.
ABSOLUTELY ME - CARO EMERALD
I looooove that album of her's and that song is just one of many that make me want to dance.
RELAX, TAKE IT EASY - MIKA
Mika's music and his lyrics are wonderful. His songs are produced in that eighthies-style I love and althought the melodies are mostly uplifting, the lyrics are always written carefully and subtle and about topics one would not expect at first from such happy melodies.
LA TRISTESSE DURERA (SCREAM TO A SIGH) - MANIC STREET PREACHERS
It's getting political for a moment. This song captured me with it's rythmic guitar and the meaning behind the lyrics.
SUPERGIRL - REAMONN
A song that, on the first glance, is about a strong woman but after listening a bit to the lyrics is a reminder that I don't have to be strong all the time, that it is good to let go sometimes, that I don't have to finght anymore.
WAKE UP - SEVEN
Good sound, beautiful voice and meaningful lyrics, what else should I want?
I'm taging @neo-neos @negrowhat @hello-n-goodbye @hippielovinlife-blog @absolutebl (who all have wonderful blogs that I greatly enjoy) and everyone else that wants to do this tag game. Have fun with it!

Got tagged by the lovely @meggie-stardust and finally got around to it xD thanks! ❤
Favorite color: I still tend to default to blue, but by now blue, orange and green definitely hold a similar place xD
Favorite food: asian fried noodles with veggies and/or chicken o-o (or meat-balls/-patties with potato salad my mom taught me to make)
Song stuck in my head: Rumors by Jake Miller
Last thing I googled: If the movies Legion and Priest got anything to do with the three The Prophecy-films because my head had somehow thrown all of these together (and at least Legion and Priest share an actor)
Dream trip: Japan
Something I want: for my two best friends to live closer to me so I can see them without first travelling 1-5 hours <.<...
Currently reading: Howl's Moving Castle and Ashlesha (by the lovely @deadcatwithaflamethrower - If you haven't read that book, go read it now. I'm serious, flame's stuff is utter brilliance!)
Last song: Cup of Sweetness by Andrew Jeremy (from the Coffee Talk OST)
Last series: The Sandman (another piece of media that I can very much recommend!)
Last movie: Thor Love and Thunder
Sweet/spicy/savory: savory!
Currently working on: too much 😂 No, actually I'm just getting back from a few days off after Steter Week, but I want to concentrate on my original story "The Carridan Constellations" (for the curious, there are tidbits over at @pencilcoreandgreenleafheart xD) atm. Though I also want to finally edit Fae Heart, so... yeah 😂
Time: 19:55/7:55pm

WIP Challenge
The darling @orphicpoieses tagged me here for this game :D So here's my answer! I'm looking forward to questions! 👀👀👀
𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 : post the names of all the files in your wip folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous they are. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have wips. (you can make your own post or reblog this one!)
I decided to make a new post, since I didn't know how long it would get xD
I also don't have the "classical" folder with singular works in but Scrivener projects that are full of stuff. These titles are from my "Fanfiction"-project!
Titles:
Come Back with me Sorry, not sorry Blue Moon Romance Plot Mental Disorder Beauty and the Beast Living, Learning, Loving
I omitted those kind of "stories" that had a WIP-title but no words other than a prompt/a few bullet points/an idea, because, well, I didn't start them yet, so technically not a WIP 😂
I also omitted the Steter Week WIPs because I have posted everything for those here (AO3) and I haven't done anthing with those stories since posting them 😂
And I omitted a small collection of stuff I wrote as Advent Calender for @luzineko in 2020 because all of that is in German and as far as I remember the stories might be short but mostly finished, so no WIPs there technically either 😂
Otherwise most of the stories are actually mostly finished aside from editing.
So have fun asking about them! 👀👀👀

My mum and I are going to a planetarium show tonight - a show called „Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon“.
I almost shrieked when my mum found it yesterday bc I immediately had to think of @deadcatwithaflamethrower‘s OaLC-Series (HP, my absolute favourite fanfiction out there. Rly. If you haven’t, go read it right now. If you already have, go read it again! It’s absolutely brilliant!)
Fitting to that I’m actually re-reading the series right now and when I opened my e-reader and read another page I came to this scene from Part II:
(Behind a readmore bc picture and a bit spoilery)
Tumblr media
(Sorry, no alt-text rn bc phone/mobile)
So yeah, today‘s day‘s in the theme of Pink Floyd and OaLC I guess 😂… definitely not sad about it ❤️
Pink Floyd is part of my childhood after all (bc my parents also are both fans and we Heard- those records a LOT ❤️) and OaLC is by now just deeply ingrained in my heart.

Just thinking about Murderbot questions not (yet) answered in the books 😂 (as far as I know - might have overlooked it 😂)
So if there are SecUnits that are all produced with the same cloned material, they should have the same face, right? Are ALL SecUnits (constructs) built with the same cloned DNA (aside from personalized constructs like the ComfortUnits)? Are there different batches of SecUnits that are produced with other cloned DNA? Could you determine through their faces how old a SecUnit is (when you have the data) because of the used DNA?
Muderbot never commented on other SecUnits faces and we do know that all SecUnits have the same body structure (which is kinda logical if they are mass produced) so we don't really know if other SecUnits have the same face as MB or not. Though we also mostly 'see' SecUnits with their armour on, so we don't know if they actually are different or if Murderbot is just used to looking into its own face when seeing other SecUnits. I'm also not sure/I forgot if we actually have 'seen' Three without armour... Does Three actually look different from Murderbot?
And... HOW OLD is Murderbot actually? Do SecUnits/Constructs age at all? They do have manipulated DNA, we know that, but does that mean they don't age like humans? What about older/newer constructs? How different are they from Murderbot (speaking in terms of abilities/functions/etc.)?
I'd guess older SecUnits are upgraded during their stay between contracts if there are new functions integrated in newer models? Or maybe older models just get sent to lower grade contracts and the newer (more expensive?) models get the high grade contracts?
I mean, there are a few hints to some answers to these questions - for example that Murderbot is at least 4 years old bc. the 'killed dozens of people'-incident is more than 30k hours past which at least in human earth terms would be around 3,5 years - plus the months from ASR to NE.
Murderbot also says in ASR that its battery would keep it alive for "hundreds of thousands of hours" so if we invert that and say 'less than a million hours' thats still a max of about 114 years??
And, as I said, I'm not sure if we have a description of Three's appearance in NE (I'm re-reading it right now and we haven't yet met Three and my memory is shit with descriptions and stuff I've only read once 😂) though it probably would be easier if Three and Murderbot DON'T look too much alike. On the other side it would be hilarious if people always mistake them for the other - especially since Three seems to have a personality that's a lot more emotionally stable than Murderbot! (Though that might be of MB's trauma - who knows?)
So yeah, questions, questions, questions 😂😂😂 (and of course that's got nothing to do with Hello World, the fic that started as a Teen Wolf-Murderbot-AU and that my head decided to evolve into a full blown crossover AND I'M NOT EVEN AT THE FUN PARTS YET! ...)

Hi...first if all I want to thank you for your blog....you are one of the only one on tumblr (that I know of) that focus on books and I love it....I learn so much from your blog....Because you already answer your top favorite books, can I ask the worst books that you ever finished (and why do you dislike them)? Also, do you have any favorite for the classical books group (usually that we have to read in school)? Sorry for the long ask.....
i gotta say i like to pick up trashy books on purpose sometimes so that's not the book's fault bc that's what it says on the tin lol but if we're talking about legit acclaimed books some of the worst ones i've read would be american gods by neil gaiman (i just dislike everything about how he writes), vicious by ve schwab (she couldn't write a character if her life depended on it, i was recommended this book for three different reasons and it managed to disappoint on all accounts, also short pov change timeline change chapters should burn in hell this is not a fucking movie this is a book), the historian by elizabeth kostova (one of if not the longest and most boring book i've ever read, vampire books are not allowed to be this dull it's against the law), look back in anger by john osborne (men derogatory), stranger in a strange land by robert heinlein (tbh i only vaguely remember the plot but i have a distinct memory of being weirded out and grossed out by everything), find me by andre aciman (a perfect example of a sequel that shouldn't have ever been written) and finally if we were villains by ml rio (the fact that this bland and shallow secret history ripoff is more popular bc it's more "accessible" or whatever infuriates me, this is my book nemesis, i want to fight it)
i used to read almost exclusively classics in childhood and in my teens, not so much anymore, but i do still have lots of favorites from this category. in my all time faves post i already mentioned eugene onegin, confusion by stefan zweig, the three musketeers, the hunchback of notre dame, wuthering heights and crime and punishment. i can add many more but for that i need the ask to be more specific. for now let's just do one for each language i can read in :)
martin eden by jack london - a robust sailor discovers knowledge and literature, becomes depressed. very dark academia
dangerous liaisons by choderlos de laclos - two morally corrupt people manipulate, gaslight and lovebomb for fun and profit. hadn't known you could just publish a novel about fucking back in the 18th century before i read this
the forest song by lesia ukrainka - a forest nymph falls in love with a mortal man, as you do. tragedy ensues
their pavel by marie von ebner-eschenbach - a peasant boy gets screwed by life over and over and over again but rises from the ashes each time. very inspirational (the english title is weird, in german it's called the community child)
fathers and sons by ivan turgenev - a young man thinks he's smarter than everyone else bc he discovered marxism and atheism. would be a shame if he fell in love like all those fools who believe in feelings or smth

Survey #318
“what can you do, where can ya go, when your mama is a burnout, and your daddy is a pyro?”
Do you have your ears pierced more than once? Yeah. Do you use an electric toothbrush? Yes. When was the last time you changed in front of someone? Oh, I have no idea. That's something I avoid like the plague because I loathe my body. When was the last time you got high? Never. Do you get along with your parents? Yeah. How many bracelets do you have on your wrists right now? None. Have you ever used a Ouija board? No, I don't fuck with that stuff. Have you ever met anyone who claimed to be a witch? Yes. Do you go along with prank-callers, or just hang up? I don't answer numbers I don't recognize to begin with. Would you ever tattoo a lover’s name onto your body? Nooooo. Do you own any version of Guitar Hero? I have a lot of 'em. Do you use mouthwash every single day? No. Do you know anyone with asthma? Yeah, my mom. Have you ever walked through a forest at night on your own? Uh, no sir. When was the last time you were in a graveyard? It's been many, many years. Do you know what an ‘AMV’ is? Yep, used to make 'em. How many items are in your recycle bin? (On your computer!) Oh yikes, probably loads. I haven't emptied it in... I don't know how long. Would you rather be a bird or a fish? A bird. What’s one award show you have to watch every year? None. Who do you like more: the Batman or the Joker? Joker. Heath Ledger's is my favorite. Have you ever had a pet rock? No. How much do you weigh? Yeah, no. If you are outside, what are you most likely doing? Taking nature photographs. Have you ever lost your luggage at an airport? No. Have you ever been on a rollercoaster that actually scared you? I don’t do roller coasters to begin with. Have you ever gone in a sauna? Ugh, hell no. Has a stray dog ever tried to bite you? No. Have you ever had an eating disorder? No. Are you attracted to people outside of your race? Yes. Are you in love with anyone at the moment? No. Have you ever dated someone more than once? No. Best cough drop? Those creamy strawberry ones. If you have a pet, does it make a lot of noise? One's a snake, so she's silent as could be. My cat is generally quiet, but he has his times where he just walks around meowing, normally for attention. Are you a fan of eyeshadow? If I actually wear makeup, yeah, I like black eyeshadow. Can you tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi? Absolutely. I don't like Pepsi. Would you feel funny if you kissed somebody of the same sex? Done it before, didn't feel weird. Besides furniture, what’s the biggest thing in your bedroom? A Silent Hill poster. Which of your friends makes you laugh the hardest? Girt. Have you ever been in a Catholic confessional? Yeah, as a kid. What color was the hair of the last person you kissed? Brown. What was the title of the last song you listened to? So today I've really been digging dark synthwave/cyberpunk-ish music, and right now I have a playlist on that's currently playing "DNA War" by Absolute Valentine and Billy Mays. How far away is the closest Walmart? Not even five minutes. Can you do a backflip? No. Who is the lead singer of your favorite band? Well, Ozzy is the lead singer of Ozzy Osbourne, haha. When was the last time you went fishing? Not since Sara visited and we went catfishing with my dad one night. What brand of deodorant do you use? Secret. Have you ever liked someone and never told them? Yes. Do you regret it? Nah. Who was the last person to buy you a drink? My mom, lmaoooo. Who was the last person to buy you dinner? Also my mom, haha. How old is the oldest person you’ve dated? Juan's maybe like... 28 or something by now, idk. Have you ever run a stoplight? No. Have you ever dated someone & then dated their sibling? YIKES, no. That sounds miles beyond awkward. Are both your parents still living? Yeah, thankfully. What’s something that makes you feel more creative? Music, for sure. Do you collect Mason jars to use for crafts? No, but I do find those super cute. What gives you a quality of life? Not much nowadays, idk. What would give you a high quality of life? A sense of purpose, direction, and worth. Do you have any rugs on top of carpet in your home? We have a big one in our living room, yes. I don't get it. Do you have a mattress cover on your bed? Yeah. Do you hate taking naps during the day? No; naps are normal for me. Who has the best personality on YouTube? Maybe I'm biased, but I genuinely do think Mark for a multitude of reasons. He's just extremely likable imo and sincerely a fucking spectacular human being. Do you have any vinyl records? No, but I would love to collect classic rock and metal ones. Which serial killer(s) do you find most fascinating? I'm quite honestly not well-informed in serial killer stories. I think they're interesting, but not enough for me to learn about them. Have you ever visited any celebrity gravesites? No. How do you feel about archaeology? It's fuckin dope. Any animals whose behaviors you find particularly interesting? ALL OF THEM AHHHH!!!!! But I particularly love learning about social animals, like meerkats (mongoose in general, really), African wild dogs, wolves, etc. What are your thoughts on gun control? I don't support the idea of banning firearms altogether, but I am very much in favor of some reform. There needs to be a much, much more strict and complex system in order for you to legally own a gun, and I also support periodic "check ups" to ensure you still fit whatever criteria is laid out. "Bad people will still find guns;" yes, some most certaintly will, but you can't convince me that the numbers wouldn't decrease. It would take a serious villain to put so much effort into pursuing obtaining a firearm. Do you like animals better than most humans? Sure do. Have you ever had to block people online for harassing you? I've blocked people to prevent that. If you collect anything, what is your favorite piece of that collection? I cherish the plush meerkat Jason gave me most, probably; out of my Silent Hill stuff, the limited edition Revelation flyer I have in Japanese. Are you friends with anybody you didn’t like at first? Hi, meet my best friend lmao. Are there any musicians you didn’t like at first, but grew on you? Probably. Do you have any favorite books you’d like to have signed by the author? Not really. Well wait, Ozzy signing my copy of his autobiography would be pretty damn cool. Do you like any board games or card games? I'm not really a board game fan, but Magic: The Gathering is fun as far as card games go. What historical figure(s) are you most interested in? I'm not incredibly interested in any, but I do think Pharaoh Hatshepsut was a bad bitch. She was one of the extremely few female pharaohs, and if my memory serves me right, one of the most successful. Do you like Breaking Benjamin? I sure do. How many people of the opposite sex have you told you loved them? One. Have you ever had to change your phone number? Yes, because I was getting strange texts from numbers I didn't know. Have you ever played bingo at an actual bingo hall? No. What’s your favourite comic book/graphic novel? I don’t read any. What is something you take pride in? How far I've come as far as my mental illnesses go, particularly depression and PTSD. What’s the biggest magnet on your fridge? I'm not getting up to go look. Have you ever eaten a Big Mac? No; I hate lettuce on burgers, so. What brand is your vaccuum cleaner? Dunno. Do you believe in sex before marriage? Sure, but I don't believe it's a must for everyone. Plenty of people don't even want to get married. Be intimate once you're comfortable with the person, and be safe and smart about it. Are you for or against abortion? I'm pro-choice. Do you feel like you need to lose weight? It's fact that I need to. My body just doesn't want to, afuckingpparently. All I seem to be capable of is either maintain or gain nowadays. Is summer your favorite season? It's my least favorite, actually. Do you wear glasses? I'm basically blind without 'em. Can you say the alphabet in more than one language? Yeah, in German. What do you want out of life? To feel like I made a difference, even if it's a small one. Do you ever get carsick? No. Do you groom your eyebrows? Not really anymore, no. Have you ever liked someone who treated you badly? No. When was the last time you went in the car past midnight? Oh boy, probably not since I had my cyst in I think '16. I was in so much agony and we had no painkillers, so I had to wake up Mom to go to Walmart to grab some. They barely even helped at all. God, I couldn't imagine dealing with that again. Were your last two kisses with the same person? Yes. Do you have alcohol in your house? I don't think we do right now, no. Do you have any personal fashion rules that revolve around your own preferences/body type (e.g., you never/always wear a certain color, sleeve type, or length of dress)? Yeah; I don't wear anything that shows my legs unless I shaved, but I will never wear a dress that isn't at least past my knees. Do you remember any celebrity whose style you admired when you were a teen? What do you think of that style now? Avril Lavigne was/is an ICON. I still think she looks badass. So, is it gif with a hard G or soft G? I used to say the opposite, but I say "gif" now. Apparently that's how the creator of the term says it anyway. When you are invited to things like wedding showers or baby showers do you tend to go or skip? What about graduation parties? If Mom is able to take me, I'll try to go to the first two if they're my closer friends. Do you like spicy chips? Oh FUCK yes. What’s the last movie you watched at a friend’s house? Elf with Sara's fam. Can you remember your parents’ birthdays? Mom's, yes. Dad's, only the month. Do you read your friends' surveys? Yep, I love learning about them. Do you know anyone with a glass eye? Not to my knowledge, no. Do you ever use the n-word? Absolutely not. What piercing do you like most on the opposite sex? I tend to like lip piercings. Do you prefer beef, chicken or steak? Chicken. Ever spent the night in a tent? Yeah, multiple times as a kid, "camping" in the yard with Dad, haha. What do you call your grandparents? I called both sets just "Grammy" and "Grampa." Have you ever cried while reading a book? Oh, certainly. How many college degrees do you want? I got none, and I'm not going back to college. Do you know how to play pool? What about foosball? Yes. Have you ever attended a professional sporting event? Yeah, hockey with my dad a few times. Do you own any jerseys? No. Were you born with naturally straight teeth? No; that's why I had braces. If you were the opposite gender, what name would you like to be called? Maybe like... Victor. Idk. Do you prefer original or sour Skittles? I love both, but sour. Do you like bacon bits on your salad? Yeah. What is your favorite kind of soup? I'm not a soup person. Did you learn to type through a computer program for kids? Yeah. What do you take for pain? Advil/Ibuprofen. What is your favorite place that you’ve lived? My pre-teen and teenage years house: in the woods on a dead-end road and down a gravel path that everyone always missed when learning where our house was. The actual road itself had very, very little traffic, and there was a large expanse of cotton fields. I loved it and miss the house itself, but it's got a lot of bad memories rotting in it. Who are your favorite kids that you’ve babysat? My niece and nephew. <3 Who is your favorite cousin? I don't have a favorite. We barely interact at all. Does one side of your family live in another state? Literally none of my extended family (or half-siblings) live in NC. What states did your parents grow up in? New York and Ohio. Have you ever had an allergic reaction to an insect? No. Is there a good hospital where you live? God no. It is notoriously awful. When was the last time you were asked out? Did you accept or decline? Mid-2017. I aceepted. Does your job allow piercings or tattoos? N/A Do you want to get married? If so, what color will your dress be? Yeah. Probably white/ivory or black. Ever had a caricature done of yourself? How much was it, and were you satisfied with it? No. Do you like peanut butter and fluff sandwiches? No, I don't like the texture. If you got married and then got divorced, would you want to re-marry? Probably not. What’s your favorite amusement park? I haven't been to nearly enough to know. Do you play video games? If so, what kind? Yeah. My favorite are horror games, but I also love me some story-driven survival games like The Last of Us, and then there's "kids" games like Spyro, etc. I like a looot of different kinds. Would you buy used clothes? I don't think so. I know it's easy to wash clothes and stuff, I'd just still feel kinda... grossed out by it.

The past two quarantine months have been like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime, and I turned 56 in January. So rather than regurgitate what you’ve likely read in the news or on social media, I’ve decided to share how I’ve spent my time these past two months along with random thoughts. I hope you’ll continue along with me as I share what I’m doing each week.
Books
Oh, how I’ve missed reading! With my business so insanely busy (for which I’m truly grateful) these past few years, I’ve barely had time to read little more than Slack, emails, texts, and social media updates. Not exactly satisfying for this lifelong, avid reader. This quarantine has allowed me a little bit of extra time, which I’ve put to good use.
In no particular order, here’s what I’ve read:
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow is fantastic. Read it in one sitting because I didn’t want any of the details of this lacy, incredibly intricate work to fade. I highly recommend it. A mix of fantasy, drama, and a love story (because in the end, aren’t all stories love stories?), anyone with a working brain will love this novel.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng is also superb. I’d heard about this book for a while, yet only got around to it because it’s also now a mini-series on Hulu (which I watched afterward – also very good, though the character arcs and the plot changed in crucial, at times startling, ways).
Curious if you’ve read the book and watched the series, what your thoughts are? I could write an entire post about it, yet I’ll only share this…
As a child, my parents hire a housekeeper. My folks both work full-time and we are not in any way rich or well-off. Neither of my folks has college degrees – Dad is an assistant manager at a chain drugstore and Mom has just completed x-ray tech school and works nights at San Bernardino County Hospital. We live in a small house on a long street in the smoggy Inland Empire of California.
There are two of us, my older sister and me. Then my mom gets pregnant when I’m nine and has my baby sister when I’m ten. My folks advertise for a housekeeper and Miss Louise answers. She’s African American and willing to work for the little they can pay her. She smokes a lot (outside only, so as “not to hurt the babies”), insists on wearing a uniform though my mom tells her it isn’t necessary and comes looking for us in her big old white Caddy if we aren’t home from school exactly 20 minutes after it lets out.
(Miss Louise’s husband’s name is George. If you are alive in the 70s and watch The Jeffersons, you understand why this is an endless source of amusement to my sister Caren and me.)
Being that young, neither Caren nor I understand what privilege means. We didn’t get whatever we wanted because my parents are always strapped, yet there is food on the table, and the lights are always on. Except for the occasional venture to Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm that one time (mom hated it), our vacations consist of driving to visit our Zayde (great-grandfather) in a nursing home in Santa Cruz, or some other relatives we don’t know somewhere in L.A. (I remember one great-aunt who drank. A lot.) We’d always stop at Cantor’s for a soup and sandwich (the highlight for us), and be back on the road. We don’t mind because it is anywhere but home.
Anyway – my entire point is that in Little Fires Everywhere – the show – Kerry Washington’s Mia is an artist who takes a maid job with Reese Witherspoon’s Elena Richardson’s family to keep an eye on her daughter Pearl, who is quite taken with the teenage Richardson clan. The racial and financial dichotomy is blatantly obvious: a rich family who’s seemingly got it all vs. a seemingly poor black single mother, which adds to the ‘fires’ mentioned in the title.
The book really made me think about my own privilege and despite how well my folks treated Louise, and how much we loved her, and she us, there would always be that wall. Granted, it was a business arrangement and my folks paid her for her services, and in truth, anyone could’ve answered the housekeeping ad. The fact that she was African American and we were white created a racial divide that’s undeniable.
The third book I read is Certain Cure by Jennifer Valoppi, also excellent. It’s the first in a series (parts two and three aren’t out yet, darn it). The novel chronicles the life of three generations of the Cummings family; Claire, a woman in her 70s who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, Helene, her television journalist daughter and Justin, the teenage grandson whose adoration of his “Grams” leads him to discover the dark secret behind the miracle technology that is not only curing Claire of her cancer but tempting his mother with eternal youth, as traditional medical industries wage war against the mysterious doctor from China who threatens them all.
I had no idea what to expect with this one, and I’m glad I read it. Valoppi is a former TV journalist from NYC so she knows her stuff. I’m not particularly religious (or scientific), yet I didn’t find either the science or religious stuff bogged me down.  Fascinating read. I highly recommend it.
Movies and Shows
Gosh, so many. With four of us in the house (and two teens), it’s worth it to me to pay for Hulu and Netflix, Amazon Prime Video comes with my Amazon Prime membership already, plus my internet plan comes with AT&T Direct, Showtime, HBO, and other premium channels. For the amount of entertainment, it’s worth the money.
I watch movies and shows on my iPad at night, once I’m finally off my computer. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like a super loud TV with stereo surround-sound barking at me after a long day of noise and stress. So I go upstairs to my cozy bed, surround myself with blankets and pillows and cats, and snuggle in for a few hours to watch a movie or a few episodes of something I enjoy.
Another note: not a big ‘reality TV’ watcher, mostly because, as a writer, I prefer well-written shows. I also don’t like the negativity and yelling normally associated with those shows. That said, I do watch Vanderpump Rules (on Bravo) with my daughter (age 20). We bond.
Shows
Here’s what I’ve binged these past few quarantine months, show-wise (no links because you can Google):
Ray Donovan – ggggggreat! Heard it was wonderful, yet truly had no idea how awesome. Liev Schrieber is captivating as Ray. Flawed, human, sad, and, in case you don’t know, a childhood sexual abuse survivor (church abuse). I had no idea going in this would be a theme of the show, yet it was handled with care and truth. The entire supporting cast is also amazing. Every season is great. Watch it all. I hated to see it end.
Homeland – the first four or so seasons were mesmerizing. Then, I got bored. This last season had me falling asleep and then WHAM! that ending. Worth it.
Hunters – Good, not fantastically great. The twist in the last episode will get you, though.
Upload – Loved it! Thought it would be silliness (and in some places, it was, but that’s okay – we need a little silliness right now). Had a ton of heart which I love.
Bosch – come on, it’s Titus Welliver. He’s fantastic. This last season didn’t draw me in as much as the entire rest of the series, though. You?
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – terrific, all of it. Every season, every episode, every character.
Tales From The Loop – amazing. Anything having to do with time-travel or the bending of time, I’m a total sucker for. This hurt my brain in a good way.
The Feed – weird but good and thought-provoking.
Dark – by far, my favorite show year. A German show dubbed in English (you get used to it – don’t let that scare you off), this time-bending, decade-moving hit show spans two seasons and every episode is worth watching. And the music – my god. Amazing. Here’s a Spotify playlist link.
Movies
Parasite – thought-provoking. Took a while to get into it and then boom! It just goes full-on insanity. Well-written, well-acted, and the message of the movie is just, wow. No spoilers in case you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.
Hustlers – loved it. Whatever issues people have with strip clubs and ‘dancers,’ get over it. These girls are amazingly talented, are in amazing shape, and work hard to make money for their families. What I loved the most about the movie is that it’s all about the women; the men are only there as a plot device. It’s a movie entirely shot through the ‘female gaze’ (though of course, men will enjoy the dance scenes which are sexy, yet not unclothed). How many movies can say that?
Memento – I think I’m probably one of the few people who had never seen this neo-noir psychological thriller starring Guy Pearce looking like Brad Pitt (who was originally considered for the role). It was great, I think? LOL. My brain still hurts.
Call Me By Your Name – Lovely, sad, gorgeous. (And I will not make a juvenile peach joke.) And the music! Oh, my.
Zombieland – I hate zombies, I hate horror movies. I hate gore and squishy sounds. This movie was cute. (Not ready for the sequel, yet.)
Music
As mentioned above, the music in Dark sent me off on a ‘who are these talented musicians?’ lark. I’ve discovered so many. Here is who I’m listening to right now (all free on Spotify) and links provided here:
Apparat (you’ll recognize the opening theme of Dark and stay for the rest).
Agnes Obel – wondrous. I’ve played her entire catalog repeatedly since discovering her music on Dark. She’s become a commercial favorite as well now. Familiar is the song used in the show that’s received the most play.
Alev Lanz – otherworldly. I’ve not heard anyone like her. Her songs on the Dark soundtrack and Black Mirror are what she’s most noted for (May The Angels, and Fall Into Me, respectively), however, I love all of her work. Her harmonies are like nothing else. One song is layered with her voice and African throat singers – it’s gorgeous (May The Angels). She’s active on Twitter and we’ve interacted a few times. She’s beautifully transparent about her love of music and it shows in all her work.
Patrick Watson – I heard this song, Good Morning Mr. Wolf, on the Ray Donovan soundtrack and immediately clicked my SoundHound app. Who is this talented being? This song, in particular, sounds so large and cinematic – I wondered – is he is a film composer? (yes). A band? (yes). And so much more. I cannot get enough of all of his music, and still, I play this one song on repeat – repeatedly.
London Grammar – I discovered this band a few years ago and still adore them. Strong is still my favorite song, though Rooting For You is a close second. Hannah Reid’s vocals are big and beautiful.
Hilary Woods – ethereal and lovely. Especially the song Kith.
Sufjan Stevens – many of us just discovered him from the movie Call Me By Your Name soundscore, however, he’s been a working musician since the early 2000s. Talented beyond.
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here. I made a Female Rockers list on Spotify which you’re welcome to.
Thoughts on Quarantine
My Business
Living in California, I’ve barely left the house in two months, with the exception of going to the pharmacy for meds or for the occasional physician appointment for me or the kids, because of the quarantine restrictions in place. And I’m okay with that.
I’m fortunate that my business is primarily online-only: I work with authors and small businesses on their branding, marketing, and promotion, so given that all real-life events are off the table, I’ve been quite busy working with my clients to ensure their products and services are still viable.
This doesn’t mean I don’t need help as a small business. I applied for an SBA loan and couldn’t even get onto the website the first time – it was pretty ridiculous – like the end scene in Beetlejuice. You all know who those first small business loans went to, right? Not small-potatoes people like me. So the second time around, it went much smoother, and I’m grateful to have received a small loan which will definitely help me keep going with rent, insurance, and other expenses.
I still did my annual non-profit initiative for writers, NaNoProMo (National Novel Promotion Month) this year over on my business site, BadRedhead Media, yet only for two weeks instead of the entire month. Daily blog posts from experts on everything publishing-related plus amazing giveaways. It’s always exhausting, yet I find enormous gratification in helping writers.
This year, however, getting writers to comment to win amazing, FREE giveaways was like pushing a house up a hill. I get it – people are focused on putting food on the table instead of commenting on blog posts, even if the giveaways were worth $500. That’s why I wanted to do this initiative this year – to help writers who are in a jam – yet only a smattering of writers participated.
I’m seriously rethinking if I want to do it next year given the financial cost as well as the personal toll. My first therapist, who I started seeing after I gave birth to my daughter Anya (I was terrified to leave her to go back to work, given my history with childhood sexual abuse), gave me this tip whenever I had trouble deciding whether to do something:
“If you ever aren’t sure if you should do something, ask yourself this question: Is this good for Rachel? If the answer is yes, do it. If the answer is no, don’t. It really is that simple.”
Self-care, y’all.
Social Media
I’ve stopped interacting with the crazies on social media (and who knows, maybe you’re one of them so truly, no offense), but I’d rather stay safe and keep my family safe by working exclusively at home – which I mostly do anyway – than venture back into face-to-face meetings with clients. I support four people with my business and if something happens to me, four people are doomed.
So the answer is simple to me: stay home, work from home, and don’t risk dying from this virus.
I don’t buy into any of this ridiculous conspiracy crap. Sorry, not sorry. You can if you want to. Spending time arguing with people online about it takes away time from my business, my kids, my guy, and my own sanity. Speaking of which…
Mental Health
There were a few mix-ups with my meds when this all started, and I couldn’t get my prescriptions filled and delivered before I ran out, so I ended up having about a week of insomnia which I’ve never had to deal with. I was a zombie (the non-squishy kind) and it sucked.
If you have insomnia, I’m sorry. I feel for you.
It’s all straightened out now, thank goodness. My son Lukas and I donned our masks and drove to the local CVS the other day because I couldn’t wait two days for my meds to be delivered. It felt like walking into a dystopian future walking in there: everyone in masks, tape six feet apart for the waiting line, plexiglass between us and the cashiers.
I’m thankful for these measures, of course, and wonder how long we’ll need them, or if this is our new normal?
My Writing
I finished the final edits on Broken People and sent it back to my editor. She’s had some health issues, so the delay is understandable. To be honest, I’m not in a huge hurry to launch a new book right now. Here are the questions that run through my mind:
Do people have money to purchase a new book?
If they do, will they want to read my new book?
If they do want to read my new book, will they take the money they do have to read mine, and then review it?
Does it even matter in the grand scheme of life?
I’m an author just like any author – I want to get my work out there so people can read it, engage with it, connect with me. I hope they’ll like it, feel something, reflect on their own lives, learn something new, particularly about being a childhood sexual abuse survivor. It’s a weird limbo to be in right now.
Our New Normal
This phrase is bandied about quite a lot yet let’s face it: it’s life as we know it, now. The anxiety is real, too. I haven’t hugged or kissed my elderly parents who live two miles away in two months. I bring them toilet paper and cookies from our favorite bakery (drive up and trunk drop off, pay online only) and drop it on their porch.
All these scenarios run through my mind: If I go to do this, what happens if? I know I’m not the only one. And yet, we can’t predict anything. So I sit here, writing this post, safe inside my little house bubble, grateful I can pay my rent, put food on the table (delivered by Instacart, thankfully), and everyone around me is healthy.
What’s your new normal? What have you been reading, watching, and listening to? If you’ve stuck it out this far, I thank you. Would love to hear your comments! Safe hugs, y’all.

okay so I’m alone in my dorm @ uni and I’m bored as all hell & i’ve has a recent fascination w old movies??? & u reblog stuff about old movies all the time so I’m just wondering if u have any suggestions?? I wanna watch some good/fun ones but I have no idea how to find the ones that don’t suck!! always a sucker for the ones that have gay subtext but like. any suggestions at all would be so appreciated thank u queen
oooooh yes!!!!!!! you came to just the place! im just gonna list some of my faves, hang on cause this is gonna be a LONG one (im not sure what your cutoff for Old is so i just went with 1960)
silent:
wings: really well done visually, also features the first gay kiss in history (ofc the context is different, but it’s there!)
nosferatu: the legendary spongebob character’s origin story! the music is wonderful in this, it’s very Artsy, just one of the greatest horror movies ever (it’s a bit slow at times but most silent films are)
the cabinet of dr caligari: REALLY cool from an art perspective, the sets are incredible, i love german expressionism, another great one for when you’re in the mood to get Spooky
steamboat bill, jr: buster keaton is a legend for a reason, this is my personal favorite of his. theres also something very unique and charming about silent film slapstick that i just adore, and this is a wonderful showcase of it!
the gold rush: basically the same reasoning as above, but with charlie chaplin. also this movie has a lot of genuine emotion you dont often get from silent comedies!
sunrise: a song of two humans: a must-see for silent films, it has super intriguing visual effects that really give a dreamlike quality to it, as well as great acting for the limited medium
show people: a really sweet classic romance that also gives you a nice (if not totally accurate) taste of The Movie Biz @ the time
metropolis: one of the first sci fi movies ever. visually STUNNING like nothing ive ever seen, also a bit of a workers of the world unite moment
noir/drama/general Serious Stuff:
the big sleep: SEXY! the plot is hard to follow but it’s worth it for the characters and also just all i can say is. hot - it’s about a murder or two!
the maltese falcon: actually makes sense and like. Says Stuff abt humanity. gripping plot and nuanced characters -about a bird statue and the knights templar also human nature but also who could forget a murder or two!
sunset boulevard: absolutely enthralling characters, script, plot, performances, all of it! - it’s about a murder!
rebel without a cause: HUGE gay subtext with this one, one of the original Teen Movies
kiss me deadly: interesting!!!!! i was intrigued from start to finish w this one and you probably will be too
strangers on a train: one o those Psychological Thrillers, interesting n well acted - it’s about The Concept of Murder
north by northwest: super fast paced spy action movie that also #makes you think
murder, my sweet: another classic phillip marlowe story with that fast talkin detective dialogue i love so much - it’s about a murder! (my sweet)
double indemnity: the height of Cynicism in noir, not even any detectives in this just bad deeds and Tension -it’s about a murder or two!
key largo: just a hotel full of intriguing characters all At Odds with each other and the concept of heroism
random harvest: kinda cheesy amnesia plot but comes across well with good acting and dialogue
the lady vanishes: about a lady. who vanishes. funny at times and has that Classic hitchcock tension before he really landed on his final style
casablanca: “here’s lookin at you kid” “i think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship” just. one of the most iconic movies of the whole Classic Era and for good reason!
to have and have not: basically casablanca BUT consider this- i love Them (them being humphrey bogart and lauren bacall)
comedy/romance/general Light Stuff:
the thin man series: one of my absolute all time favorites! it’s just a story about two rich people who only love each other and alcohol getting dragged into solving various mysteries. my favorite thing about this is how much you can tell they love each other, like they’ve been married for years and just banter back and forth in a way founded on mutual respect n adoration which is So refreshing to see in classic movies!
it happened one night: i ADORE this movie! it’s a classic road trip comedy with a ton of bizarre side characters and hijinks, and also basically Invented the rom com genre. they’re also genuinely in love in a very cute way! it’s just sweet and fun and one of my fav movies of all time
arsenic and old lace: a dark comedy about old lady serial killers, brothers who think theyre theodore roosevelt and frankenstein (respectively), and Love. it’s super bizarre but a real joy to watch!
it’s a wonderful life: makes me sob every single time and leaves ya with that fuzzy warm feeling inside (recommended for christmas/winter viewing)
duck soup: i mean it’s the most iconic marx brothers movie, what more can i say!
bringing up baby: just a real wacky romp where it’s the lady and the tiger, with a whole lot of silly comedy
my man godfrey: makes fun of rich people n has a big loud ensemble cast (also romance)
the shop around the corner: they fall in love through letters but hate each other in real life! :0! bonus points for jimmy stewart’s voice
abbott and costello meet frankenstein: the title says it all. completely joyfully stupid movies like these are a big reason why i love old movies!
roman holiday: audrey hepburn’s debut movie. really sweet, has an ending that makes me cry
death takes a holiday: super interesting experimental concept not seen often in this era - Death literally takes a holiday and has to deal w life n love n all that
sabrina: a very nice and well acted little romance/cinderalla story w sprinkle of comedy
the philadelphia story: another Classique rom com with a love triangle n some nice fast-paced witty dialogue
musicals:
singin in the rain: one of the first classic movies i ever remember loving. every second of it is just. ah chef kiss

top hat: fred astaire and ginger rogers!! need i say more?
on the town: really fun music n choreography, generally engaging to watch
cabin in the sky: an all black cast with a ton of great songs n talent!
the great ziegfeld: a really lovely period piece about 20s live shows with stunning costumes/choreography

WIP Folder
Tagged by @lookslikefairytale, thanks, but also fair warning, I’m even less of a writer than I am an artist which is mostly ‘cause I never finish any of the things I start to write and also am just- not that good at it, I guess, but sometimes it’s fun. So really, you could say all of these are abandoned, but I decided to list them anyway, enjoy.
Larry:
- Sunrise AU: Harry and Louis are strangers who happen to watch the sunrise together every day. Slow burn and some angst, that probably comes along with falling in love with a person you met randomly in a park and don’t actually know how to even contact. Started in 2016, currently at 8k (planned to be around 20k) and definitely so far the longest thing I’ve ever written. Mostly wanna finish it because of how good a title “When The Sun Came Up (I Was Looking At You)” would be.
- Rock It! AU: Strongly based on my favorite feel good movie, Rock It! (some German teen movie I can basically talk along to at this point, the “German High School Musical”). Harry is in the running for a place at a school for classical music, Louis is in a rock band. Harry wants to be a part of it, but can’t let them know about studying at the prestigious place they hate. Coming of age and coming to terms with who you are and want to be. Also started in 2016, currently at 6k (looking at how long the movie is, I’d like for it to end at 30k or something).
- Closer AU: Inspired by that Chainsmokers song, but with a happy ending, Harry and Louis meet four years after their relationship fell apart. Exes to lovers, probably going nowhere, wrote 2k for this on a whim in 2017, I think.
- Bananas/College AU: Some meet-cute in a uni cafeteria, mostly written off of an encounter of my own with some friend of a friend who decided three bananas were a totally legit meal. Reminded me of Harry, so I wrote 1k of flirty banter, I’m really only trying to not make it seem so rushed at this point, so maybe this one will actually be published some day.
- Number Change: The only kinda canon thing I’ve ever tried to write. Based on Louis’ tweet about changing his number, Harry and him are long broken up and just when he decided to reach out again, Louis tweets and naturally, Harry is convinced it’s about him. Literally only one 500 words scene long so far and was completely written on my phone in 2017 when I had the idea.
Others (mostly research and ideas):
- Tronnor 2016/2017: Definitely abandoned, but I felt kinda inspired after Connor was so shady in his Note To Self trailer. Had it actually all planned out, the way they were broken up, but Troye saw the video and how hurt Connor was, then they’d reconcile or something and that’d be it. There are like 500 words in that document, so I just thought I’d include it, lol.
- Emilia Schüle/Jannis Niewöhner 2017-ish: Completely irrelevant for everyone who isn’t deeply interested in German actors. Officially these two have been broken up since 2016, but they still seem awfully close and to this day I am very convinced they never broke up in the first place or simply got back together in 2017, because they were (and still are) constantly shooting some movie or another with each other. This would basically be about the actual break up phase and them being all exes to lovers on different movie sets, but I’ve mostly done extensive research and some plotting so far and actually written like 500 words.
Feel tagged if you wanna. I love making stupid lists, this was so much fun!!

Tag Game
Tagged by: @conejocabron
Why the username?: Ahh well it’s all tied to my second major fandom of Xena. My nickname (see more details below) got shortened to XV and one of my STV Janeway/7 buddies kept teasing me and calling me 15 (as in xv is 15 in Roman numerals)  So my catchphrase at the start of all my emails was “It’s X—V--- not 15!”  And her being the wonderful ass-hat she was, (god I do miss her) said “Oh, how’s it going XVnot15.”  LOL  I use it as my pen name as well for fanfic.
Zodiac: Aries But I’m an Aries lamb not a ram.
Height: 5 foot 4 inches as I have been since my 11th birthday.
Time:15:32
Favorite band/artist:  I love all sorts from Mozart to Twisted Sister but given that I’ve been to only 6 concerts in my life and 5 of the were for one artist I best answer Neil Diamond!!
Song stuck in my head: Electric Dreams…there is currently a commercial on UK television with it being sung and it stays in my head ofr ages after each time I see it.
Nickname: OY!  Soo very many over the years, Bertha Beth, SuzyQ, Sunshine, Fingers (given by my grade 7 Shop teacher because I ripped up a finger in a scroll saw, OUCH!) Rugrat, Pooh, Mrs Mangalogo… But the one that has stuck and by which I was actually called by just about everyone who knows me was XenaVirgin, then shortened to XV. And I blame Lucy Lawless for it as she gave it to me at the 10th Convention.  Check out the 10th Convention DVD on the back there’s a whole section titled I’m a XenaVirgin which is there because that’s how I introduced myself when I got to ask Lucy and Renee a question and you can hear me asking the question.  Then my Lady Wife created a yahoo account with the name so I could join the Xena Fan Club Kit yahoo group. And after that it just stuck.
Last movie I saw: Toy Story 4
Following:…me? Following 400  being Followed by 569
Average amount of sleep: NEVER BLOODY ENOUGH!!!  I’ve had sleep problems since I was 4 years old and woke up in an empty house because my eldest brother who was supposed to be babysitting me buggered off to visit his girlfriend. Totally freaked me out and I’ve never slept well since, That being said the best time for me to sleep is always between 6:00am and 12:pm.
Last thing I googled: Veronica Seton Williams – Awesome gay lady archaeologist and Egyptologist. Needed to double check if she wrote a particular book.
Other blogs: On Tumblr no.
Do I get asks: Occasionally, 8 out 10 are usually asking about Mirandy fanfics. :D
Lucky number: 3 Always my jersey number when I played hockey in the first all girl House league in Toronto. :D
What am I wearing: Black Sweatpants, Xena T-shirt and itchy grey and black wool sweater.
Dream Job: I’ve had my dream jb, lecturing in Egyptology and ancient history. Now need to get my writing career up and running. Also developing fun workshops on ancient cultures for primary schools.
Dream trips: My real dream trip would seriously be a globetrotting Road Trip to visit my online buddies and pals and give them 3D squeezes. That would take me all over the world, including Egypt and Brazil. Yay!!!
Favorite food: Lemon and feta Greek Chicken with courgettes.
Eye color: Pale blue
Hair color: Sometimes called sandy blonde, others called mousy brown.
Aesthetic: I guess it would be Academia and personal comfort.
Languages I speak: Well I chose to concentrate on dead languages so no one could bug me about my accent. Heheheh.  So Middle Egyptian (hieroglyphs) also Middle Egyptian (Hieratic), Aramaic, a smattering of Babylonian, Latin, ancient Greek, some biblical Hebrew. Also a smattering of French, German, Spanish and Yiddish.
Most Iconic song: Well the one song I will always get up and move too, even on my crutches, is 1999 by Prince. It is the essence of my teen years.
Instruments I play: Unfortunately none, though I do read music and can pick out a tune one handed on the piano, I have serious problems coordinating my hands to work together playin an instrument.
Random fact: I was catapulted out of my baby pram when I was a year old and ended up with brain damage from 2 subdural haematomas and having brain surgery. That said I went on to have an I.Q. of 145 and gain B.A. and M.Phil degrees at university. But hay it was officially brain damage, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
I tag any of the Kidlets who follow me who would like to share...just remember to @  me so I know where to find out all about ya. :D

Elle Fanning Height Weight Measurements
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Elle Fanning Biography
Mary Elle Fanning born April 9, 1998 is an American on-screen character. She is the more youthful sister of on-screen character Dakota Fanning and chiefly known for her featuring parts in Phoebe in Wonderland, Somewhere, We Bought a Zoo, and as Aurora in 2014’s Maleficent. #TMIishTuesday #49 - Am I gay because of...
Hey, Announcement before we start: I've posted dozens of #TMIishTuesday's already - as you can tell by the number above. And I realised, pretty much all of them fall into two categories: - LGBTQ+ and - society/language. And I also think that these two topics are actually targeted at quite a different audience. So I thought, I'd try to organise this blog a little better so you know when to get here for your favorite topic. Here's how: This week, and every second Tuesday of the month from now on, I'll post on LGBTQ+ related topics. So, if you don't want to miss them, mark 14 March, 11 April, and 9 May in your agenda already. However, if you're here for language and society topics: Mark each last Tuesday of the month: 28 February, 28 March, and 25 April are what you should be looking for. The other two or three Tuesdays there'll be topics related to other things. However, if I just posted on languages and next day the Trumpet's government announces it was to prohibit the use of the English language anywhere in world but the U. S., I might slide in an extra language post as the next one. :D I hope this way you know what to expect a little better and know when it's really worth checking this page, if you're only interested in one topic. And now… Enjoy this month's LGBTQ+ related post: "Am I gay because of…?"
Hey there mighty people of the internet! And welcome to issue #49 of #TMIishTuesday - my weekly Tumblr post about what goes through my weird mind and what you guys want to know more about. It can be something very personal, it can be something political, it can be completely pointless - but in 99.9 % of the cases, it involves opinions. And mine as well. // Last week I told you about my favorite album at the moment: Troye Sivan's Blue Neighbourhood which was actually released more than a year ago. Here's why I find it so cool all of a sudden. // Following the rooster I mentioned in the foreword, this post is regarded as "LGBTQ+", but it certainly touches on other topics as well: Society, language, and more. And to be quite honest, I probably would have put it into the "society and language" category, if it wasn't that most LGBTQ+ topics in my list are based around sources on the internet, like articles of newspapers or magazines. But I have a spare hour at my parents at the moment - and their telephone and internet provider fails to execute its most crucial option: Provide telephone and internet. :D So… I'm tugging this topic in. This topic was actually inspired by questions asked on a German forum called "gutefrage.net" where you can get advice by other users on virtually any topic: Computer stuff, visa stuff, school problems, sexuality questions, and I'm convinced there'll be a section for make-up as well. If you google a question in German, chances are that one of the first hits will be a user of gutefrage.net asking your exact question, or a very similar one. That's also how I initially found the forum. And after I had read up on cooking skills - or whatever it was - I just clicked around a little more. And I came across the "gay" tag where people ask questions about their sexuality. And I was like: Maybe I could help some of those people. So I made an account - and every now and then, I'll browse the "gay" tag trying to help the people on there. As I expected, most of them are teens. And since I'm browsing the "gay" tag, most are male as well. And I found that some questions are quite amusing actually. Obviously there are those really deep-cutting problems with teens struggling with either their sexuality or coming out - who I happily help. But some… Man! People's minds can get so creative! I see SO many questions along the lines of: “I'm shy/dressing slightly different than others/young/old/have a smaller dick than others - does that make me gay?" I mean, I kinda get those people who ask questions like "I accidently touched a friend's dick. I think I'm gay now?". On the one hand, if you think about it, it's quite irrational. But on the other hand: If - like in most of Germany - students don't learn about the different sexualities at school until they are 14, 15 (if at all!), it's only natural that our internet-exposed 12- or 13-year-olds ask such questions. They just don't know. (And thanks to society and the use of "gay" as an insult, they are scared of being gay.) But let's get back to the totally strange questions that I find every other day on the forum. These just don't make any sense! Examples? Here you go:
Tumblr media
1) "Is it gay when guys listen to Beyoncé songs?" Yeah, totally! Right? Music totally defines your sexuality! Right? If you're a guy and like a song that features a female singer, you're gay! The same goes for a girl who likes songs sung by guys! Oh, and if you like a duet featuring a guy and a girl, you're bi! Right? I don't have to elaborate on this one, do I?
Tumblr media
2) "Am I gay just because I have a diamond tattoo behind my ear?" Yeah, totally! If you get a diamond tattooed that's so gay! You should have gotten a gold ingot instead! And why did you pick a spot behind your ear!? You should have gotten it on your back! Like a man! Excuse me? Get whatever tattoo you like on whatever part of your body you like. Okay, maybe don't go all the way IN. That's just dangerous. But for the rest - why not get a diamond behind your ear or a tiny pink bird on your forearm?
Tumblr media
3) "Is it gay to dye your hair?" Yeah, totally! Only homosexual people dye their hair! See, I've been debating doing it for years now. And I might talk to my hair dresser about it this upcoming weekend actually. Oh, and my Mum dyes her hair as well to prevent the grey from showing. Oh, wait. My mum still lives with my father. Almost 26 years after having me. And she has been dyeing her hair for a good 5 years now. Why hasn't she turned lesbian, yet? Erm… I'm afraid our oh-so-promising hypothesis didn't pass the practice test again. Shit! Why is that!? Okay, and to finish this off, let me show you two more examples off the same site. The first one is a very bad troll who didn't even bother to get creative creating multiple accounts.
Tumblr media
Mr. "Am I gay please help me maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan?"  And he says: "I m/15 think that I am gay cause I accidently touched ONE friend's dick. Please help me!" I mean, poor guy! It's so easy to change your sexuality by just a slip of your hand. Damn, THAT must suck! But I didn't even have to intervene in the original post cause this happened. Note the usernames:
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the post 25 mins ago: "I mean just because you touched his dick doesn't mean you're gay, but you grabbed it and I have to say you're doing a good job :3" 1. The start looks quite good tbh. It only gets bad after the comma. 2. The username 3. In the question it doesn't say he grabbed it. And then he replied again: "Yeah, man, you're gay …But that's okay , I'll suck you for 5 euros :)" Erm… Total troll!? :P To finish this off, let's have a laugh at a guy who totally nailed his answer to a guy who asked: "Which optical indications are there that you are gay?"
Tumblr media
That guy replied: "At your wrist are clearly visible lines that cross diagonally to your arm (only those count that go from left to right). Their number tells you which kind of person you are dealing with: Homosexuals have two lines; if you are a pedophile, there's one; and there are three, when you're intellectual gifted. If you have a few interrupted ones, you can tell by their amount, distance, and length how often the person had sex." This guy is bloody brilliant!! …and I think that's a good one to finish off this post. Before I go, though, let me know what you thought of this post. What's the most stupid question you ever asked? Place a comment, tweet me, dm me, or do anything else you can think of to get to me. Talking about brilliant stuff: Today’s TMIish Queer Shoutout (let's get rid of the TMIish. That's just too long of a title!) is a film again. Moonlight, an American drama from last year. I don't watch films to easily, but after Ash Hardell talked about it in one of her videos, the plot just got to me and I had to watch it. It tells the story of Chiron, a shy kid who is picked on during school and whose single mother barely devotes time to him. He gets to know Juan, a drug dealer in his 40s or 50s. I won't spoil too much here cause the story is really well thought-through. Only that much: Chiron has to face some more challenges growing up and he eventually struggles with all the problems that arise in the typical ghetto-kind of neighbourhood - and gets to know his sexuality which will play a role later in the film as well. The film is split into three spans of Chiron's life: The small school kid Chiron, the high school kid Chiron (who is still bullied), and the grown-up Chiron who has moved out and lives his own life. As you can tell the gay theme only plays a minor part in this movie, so I can recommend this film to anyone without hesitation. So, if you have a spare two hours this week, find it online somewhere, go ahead and watch it! (Or, if you live in Germany: Wait until 9 March. It's supposed to hit the cinemas then. Might even watch it again then.) As always: Next #TMIishTuesday next Tuesday. If you have any questions in the meantime, just ask away. Whatever you’re curious about - I don’t bite. :) Until then: Stay mighty! Linkage: - gutefrage.net: www.gutefrage.net - Ash Hardell: www.youtube.com/HeyThere005
