Falling for a lounge singer (Yandere!Mafia! BTS)// Kim Taehyung
Requested anonymously.
Summary: Working as a part time singer, you never thought you'd find yourself becoming the centre of attention of a man's life, especially one who you can't run from.
Word Count: 2.5K
Tumblr media
The city was laid out brightly before you, cool wind making your hair stick to your glossy lips as you rested your elbows on the railing of the rooftop. Working for hours amidst people who were rich and liked to show off was stressful, especially when you knew you didn't fit in between them. If it wasn't for your voice, no one would even give you a second glance but there you were, attracting loud applauds every time you held the mic. It made you feel almost cocky but your conscience didn't allow it, reminding you of your place in this world time and time again.
With a soft sigh, you stared at the pretty sky, the stars scattered across it twinkling to grab your attention yet failing to do so. Because even though you loved the peace and quiet, your mind was restlessly loud tonight. Loud with thoughts about a man you had seen too many times, but never had the pleasure of meeting. A man who had sent you a single white freesia every night before disappearing without a word.
But tonight was different. Because he wasn't here. In fact, he hadn't been here for the last three days and if you were being honest, you missed him.
You missed his dark eyes that gazed at you with so much fervour that it made you dizzy. You missed how his attention made you feel like it was just the two of you in the room. You missed how he was so mysterious that you had convinced yourself to approach him. Yet, he managed to really slip away this time.
Glancing at the dried freesia in your hand, you traced it's dead petals, barely hanging on as the rest of it began to fall apart. This was the last one you had found near your vanity, not having seen another since he disappeared.
"Where did you go?" You mumbled, twirling the stem between your fingers, being as gentle as you could. There was no way for you to know if you'd ever see him again because every time you asked the staff about him, they just brushed you off by saying how some things were better left unknown. It made you wonder what was so bad about him that no one was willing to say a word.
"I'm right here, petal."
A deep voice stated from behind you, your heels quickly making you turn around to see who it was but the darkness and the distance between you two made it hard for you to tell. You frowned, watching the man's silhouette move closer to you, your fingers tightly holding onto your flower. And as soon as your eyes took in his face, your lips fell apart in a silent gasp.
There he was, looking at you with the same passion that his eyes held every time you saw him. You could feel your heart lose its rhythm, pounding erratically in your chest making you almost breathless. He was a lot more beautiful up close, your mind not having prepared you for seeing him here at all. Upon seeing you so speechless, he let out a low chuckle, one of his hands curled behind his back as his fitted black shirt hugged his biceps perfectly.
"Is this my punishment for having left you alone? You refuse to talk to me?" He asked, tilting his head to study your expression better. You remained silent, still processing the fact that the man you were so desperately looking for, was now standing so close to you. A part of you wanted to tell him that you could never be mad at him when he looked like an angel but your tongue stayed tied.
He hummed at your silence, taking another step towards, his eyes glancing at the dead flower that stayed intact between your fingers. Slowly, you felt his hand hold your wrist, a shiver running down your spine at his touch. Bringing it up, he took away the flower, throwing it somewhere to the side only to present another freesia before you, this one a striking red that made your heart skip a beat. You held onto its stalk as your mystery man placed it between your fingers, your cheeks growing warm at the way his eyes stayed fixated on your face.
“Red?” You asked, returning his gaze with an equally feverish one, his lips morphing into a smile upon hearing your voice.
“And she speaks.” He laughed lowly, his deep melody echoing in the silence of the night. Taking yet another step towards you, he placed his hands on the railing behind you, trapping you in close proximity. Your back rested firmly against the bars, your chest almost touching his.
“Yes, petal. Red. Do you know what it means?” He murmured, only loud enough for you to hear. Lost in his eyes, you didn’t notice the hand that was now tucking your hair behind your ear, your lips being the sole focus of the man’s attention. Resting his palm against your cheek, you found yourself leaning into his warmth, sighing at the butterflies you felt in your stomach.
“No,” you answered, closing your eyes when you saw him lean down until his lips grazed the shell of your ear. His long fingers brushed your hair away from your neck, your own hand clutching the flower tightly to calm your heart that was about to jump out of your chest.
“It symbolizes passion,” he whispered, his hands moving down to hold your waist and pull you flush against him. Speechless, you rested your hands on his chest, biting your lip as your forehead fell against his shoulder.
“Who are you?” You inquired, finally asking the question that had been gnawing at you ever since you saw him. A dead silence fell over the both of you all of a sudden, a frown etching onto your forehead as you were made to pull away from him a little. You found yourself missing his embrace, feeling as though you had known him for a long long time.
“You don’t know me,” he said, more like telling himself again rather than asking you. Gently shaking your head, you placed your gaze on his chest, a peek of white bandages catching your eye from beneath the few buttons that were left open at the top of his shirt. Without a thought, you moved it a little to the side, your eyes widening at the small red patch that stained the centre of the dressing, your lips parting in shock at the realisation that it was, indeed, blood.
“What happened?” You asked, worry and concern lacing your voice. He pursed his lips, his jaw clenching ever so lightly along with his hold on your waist which grew tighter. Wincing in pain, you looked at him in confusion, wondering if you had said something to upset him. And before you could ask him, he said something that perished all the warm feelings that had been brewing in your chest lately.
“My name is Kim Taehyung, Y/N. And I’ll be really mad if you decide to run away now.”
With eyes as wide as they could be, you stood frozen in his arms, your heart thudding loudly in your chest. Fear consumed your entire being, your throat running dry at the very thought of being here with Kim Taehyung, the man who was responsible for the rise of one of the biggest cartels in the world. His hands were stained with the blood of god knows how many people, the wound on his chest suddenly making a lot of sense. Losing your grip on his shirt, you let your arms fall to your sides, unmoving and unable to process the situation anymore.
Suddenly, you were aware of his burning touch all over you, your mind screaming at you to get away from him. Yet you didn’t make a move, because you knew very well that you were almost nothing in front of a trained killer who could snap your neck in the blink of an eye. Parting your lips, you willed yourself to scream as loud as you could, failing yet again with his icy glare staring you down.
Gone were all the emotions you had witnessed in his eyes a few minutes ago, making you feel as if this was a whole new man that you had never met before. A tear ran down your cheek, your brain slowly hitting you with the mixed amount of emotions that were driving you insane. You were hurt, scared, disappointed in yourself and a lot more you couldn’t yet place a finger on.
“Y/N,” his voice brought you back to him, wary of the hand that was now wiping away your tears. Eyeing him cautiously, you tried to think fast, escaping him being the only agenda on your mind right now.
Taehyung knew what you were thinking, it didn't take a genius to know that all you wanted was to run away from him before things became a mess. But it was too late now, your innocence having left Taehyung mesmerized a long time ago. And now that you were so close to him, he was ready to do anything to make you stay.
"I don't wanna die," you said, your voice wavering with the dying confidence that burnt in you like a flickering flame. Being in his arms felt good, but knowing that those hands could also push you off the roof without anyone finding out was a thought that overcame everything else.
"And you won't, petal. Just because I'm a dangerous man, doesn't mean I would lay a finger on you," he answered, quickly catching onto the fact that you thought of him as a killer. It hurt him to know that you so easily forgot every other feeling you had been sheltering all this time, his identity crumbling down to nothing in your mind. But he would fix it.
He would fix you.
His words were enough to let you know that he wasn't planning on letting you leave, convincing you seemingly the only thing on his mind. At this point, violence seemed your only answer, your eyes once more taking in the sight of the bandaging on his chest.
"I'm sorry," you apologized beforehand, inhaling nervously at his confused expression before digging your nails into his chest. A growl left his mouth immediately, his hands letting go of your waist as you pushed him to the side with all your strength and bolted towards the door.
Taehyung fell to the floor behind you, his hand covering his shirt right where the wound was, the wetness of the blood seeping through his bandages. He hissed in pain, closing his eyes as he rested his head against the wall. The sound of your cries felt like music to his ears, your small fists banging on the door which had been locked the second Taehyung stepped onto the rooftop. It was funny of you to think that you could overpower Kim Taehyung so easily, your obliviousness once again showing through your stupid attempt to escape him.
Tears ran down your cheeks upon the realisation that you were stuck here with him, your heart pounding in your chest just like your hands against the door. You were a fool to think Taehyung wasn't fully prepared. Of course he had expected this from you. Of course he was one step ahead of you.
"Please, someone open the door!" You begged, sobbing with your forehead against the cold metal, slowly sinking to your knees. Just then, you heard his laugh, deeply resonating around you as you frowned in silence. It was endless, not the kind of laughter you'd hear after a joke but the kind you'd hear only with the intention of being mocked. He was laughing at you and your silly attempt of running away from him, knowing very well that Kim Taehyung did not let go of things that he so desperately craved. You being one of them.
"Did you think it was that easy, Y/N?" He asked, his voice dripping with amusement. Turning around to face him, you stared at him with teary eyes, watching his painful state with a heart full of regret. You weren't one to hurt people at all, let alone intentionally and yet you had taken such a drastic leap tonight. To save yourself. That was truly justified, wasn't it?
"Petal, even if you had managed to leave this place, I'll have you know that I'll always find you." He grinned maliciously, making you truly scared of him. Gritting his teeth, he stood up, your back pressing against the door as he slowly proceeded to stalk towards you, his gaze pinning you down and rendering you unable to move. You felt like a prey before him, his angry eyes telling you just how much you had pissed him off.
"I just wanna go home," you stated, frowning at him with wet cheeks and quivering lips. Halting right before you, Taehyung kneeled down, his hand coming to rest against your cheek.
"And we'll go, Y/N. We'll go to our home," he mumbled almost lovingly, his eyes glistening with so much affection that if you didn't know any better, you'd think he loved you. The truth of the situation though, was that Kim Taehyung was obsessed with you and there was no way you were going to let him take you.
"N-no, I wanna go to my home," you dared, Taehyung's jaw clenching upon hearing your words. Within a second, his fingers dug into both your cheeks, your lips pouting at the force with which he was holding your jaw in place. Leaning closer to you, Taehyung's nose brushed against yours, your own hand taking hold of his wrist to make him let go.
"What a shame it'd be to know that your little sister had to die because you couldn't make the right decisions."
Eyes widening, you let out a whimper at his threat, your breath having been knocked out for a second. It was as if the world had stopped around you, your heart wishing that this was all just a bad dream. The thought of anything happening to your sister was enough to break your will, especially since you were the only one she had. If she were to get hurt because of the one person who was supposed to protect her, then you couldn't even begin to imagine how meaningless your own life would become.
Taehyung loosened his grip on your jaw, watching you cry harder because of what he had said. It hurt him to know that you were crying because of him but he had to say it. Sure, you were hurt right now, maybe you even hated him but he knew that once you became his, you'd never have to see a bad day in your life. He would love you so hard that you'd never think about anyone else ever again. It was going to be just you and him. Forever.
"I'll do whatever you want, just don't hurt her." You cried, sealing your fate with the devil with no chance of going back. Smiling fondly at you, Taehyung wiped your tears, the stench of blood hitting your nose only for you to see his crimson tainted hand grazing your cheek.
"I'll take very good care of you, petal. Don't you worry your little head," he cooed, your eyes staring at him with horror. You could feel the blood now staining your cheek, Taehyung's eyes adoring it with a hint of madness. His blood on your skin was like his name on a trophy, a sign of who it belonged to. And it gave Taehyung an immense amount of pleasure to see your innocence tainted with his filthy gore. The colour red was yours and Taehyung couldn't wait to paint you in it.
"We'll be drowning in love soon, just wait and watch."

DRUNK CONFESSION
Pairing: Gladio x Fem!Reader
Words: 1.367
Warnings: none, fluff
Synopsis: After a night in Lestallum's nightlife, yn makes an unplanned confession.
Laughing and swaying, Yn bumped into Gladio as they were on their way back to the hotel 'Leville'. She giggled as she bounced back from his solid body. Gladio held her steady with his hands on her small shoulders before she would trip over, "You belong into your bed, sweetheart.", he chuckled, amused how yn tried to get a clearer mind by shaking her head.
"No... I'm fine...", she mumbled and looked up at the huge King's Shield. Suddenly, she stopped giggling. She stared into Gladio's eyes and into his face, taking in every inch as if she saw him for the very first time, "Why are you so damn beautiful.", yn said low, sounding more sober than minutes ago.
Shaken with surprise, Gladio raised his brows, "W-what?"
"You're beautiful. Sure, you're also sexy, tall, handsome, all this but also so god damn beautiful with your amber eyes, your soft brown hair, your perfect lips."
Insecurely, Gladio chuckled, scratching the back of his neck. It was one thing to be confident about oneself but it was something different if someone else was so straight forward mostly when it was yn who wasn't known for such outbreaks, "Come on, you're drunk. You don't know what you're saying.", Gladio said laughing, trying to push yn softly into the right direction.
But she stopped and stemmed herself against his moves, "I'm serious, Gladio.", she slurred, "You're the most beautiful man I have ever seen. And then, you're also so nice and sweet and strong. You're the epitome of walking perfection."
"Thank you very much. We-"
"I understand why you're so successful with women. Although, if I think about it now, there were barely any new trophies by your side recently. Why's that? Why are you going out for drinks with me instead of having fun with some ladies?"
"Come, we bring you to bed."
"And my questions?", yn asked stubbornly.
"Here's the deal: if you go to bed now and you can still remember this weird conversation later, I will answer the questions. Alright?"
"Deal. And don't think you can escape me easily.", yn said serious, stumbling forward.
"Yeah, I fear I can't.", Gladio whispered concerned.
***
The next morning, yn sneaked out of her room she shared with Iris to go down the hallway in search of Gladio. The door of the boy's room was already open. Prompto sat on his bed with crossed legs and checked the pictures he had made the day before.
"Hey, Prompt. Where's Gladdy?"
"He said something about the panorama view spot. I guess he wants to see the meteor in the morning light. Would be a nice motive tho..."
"Thanks."
"Hey, uhm... Is everything alright between you and him?"
"Sure. Why wouldn't it be?", Yn asked confused.
"Well...", Prompto said, scratching the back of his neck.
"Prompt, spit it out."
"He was unusually quiet as he came back. And I guess, he had barely slept considering the dark circles and the grumpy mood."
"Oh... I'll go and check on him."
***
As yn found Gladio, he leant against the handrail, supporting himself with his arms and letting his eyes wander over the view. Slowly, she approached him and for the first time, she wasn't sure how things were between them, "Good morning.", she said softly and watched how Gladio stiffened by the sound of her voice.
"Morning.", he answered low.
She stopped next to him, copying his posture while looking over the scene. The view was indeed incredible. As he stayed silent, she knew she had to start, "Prompt said you haven't slept. Was it because of my ... confession last night?", she asked softly and watched how Gladio pressed his jaw together while he kneaded his hands.
"You still remember that, huh?", he asked low, avoiding her eyes.
"Yeah... I mean, I was the one who had said all these things and I... Even if I drink very, very much, I barely forget something. Boon and bane of me.", yn explained, "I also remember my questions about your ladies or rather ... the absence of ladies. I... Look, I want to apologize. I shouldn't have asked all these things about your private life."
"And all the other things? About my appearance?", Gladio asked, turning his head towards her but still not looking into yn's eyes.
"Sorry, big guy, I meant them. All of it. Maybe I wouldn't have blurted them out if I hadn't been drunk or... wouldn't have said them at all, but... I won't take them back. I really meant them. I guess, your ego can handle that because you're used to such compliments."
Gladio nodded but stayed silent.
"But like I said it's not me to judge whom you meet or not. So, I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me.", Yn said and as he still stayed silent, she decided to leave him alone to give him some space and time.
"It's because of you.", Gladio said low.
"W-what?"
"That there aren't any 'ladies' around me.", Gladio said, copying her choice of words, "That's because of you. And no, no one called me beautiful before. At least, not as you did."
"Wait a sec! What do you mean with "it's because of me"? I haven't done anything!"
"You didn't have to. I developed feelings for you therefore, I already spend time with the lady I prefer the most."
"Gladio, I... I had no idea."
"And that's how it should be. You shouldn't feel obliged and I didn't want to make it awkward between us."
"You mean awkward like right now?"
"Yeah... I mean, I would lie if I say I wouldn't feel flattered about your compliments but...you were drunk-"
"You know what they say: children and fools tell the truth.", yn said and closed up on Gladio who looked at the ground. Never before, she had seen this big guy so intimidated and insecure, "Gladio, I really meant every single word. And I... I could imagine more between us than just a friendship. I just never thought I would be your type."
Gladio shook his head and chuckled while he stepped forward, taking one of her hands in his, drawing circles on the back of her hand with his thumb, "So, we both want more and neither of us said something?"
"I did say something yesterday! Maybe we should have gone out earlier...", yn considered thoughtfully while tapping her lips with her index finger.
Gladio cupped her face with his free hand, craning her head up to meet his eyes, "And maybe we should just kiss?"
"Better idea, big guy.", Yn said with a bright smile. She got on her tiptoes to reach his lips while Gladio bent down to kiss her softly. Quickly, the kiss became stronger and yn flung her arms around his neck while Gladio embraced her waist to bring her closer and to cherish the moment that increased his heartbeat...
"Yes! Finally! Ahhh!"
Startled by the sudden turmoil, Gladio and yn separated and turned over to the source of the noise. They saw Prompto, Noctis and Ignis lying tangled together on the ground with Iris on top of them who smiled from ear to ear triumphantly, "I almost thought you two would never come together. It took you two ages!"
"What to the biting Sabertusk is going on here?", Yn called out, chuckling and watching how her friends got slowly back on their feet.
While Noctis and the others tried to clean their clothes from the dust, Iris ran towards yn and embraced her strongly, "Finally! You two are perfect together.", the small bubbly girl said giggling.
While yn embraced Iris back, she saw an exchange of Gil between the boys. Noctis and Ignis gave a small amount of money to Prompto. Prompto, grinning from ear to ear, counted the money while Noctis stood there with crossed arms, "One more month and I would have won.", the prince muttered.
"Don't worry, your highness, next time, I will ask you for permission.", Yn said chuckling.
Gladio stepped forward, placing his hand on yn's shoulder, "Next time?", he asked with one raised brow but with a smirk on his lips.
Yn looked up, "Just kidding.", she said with a wink.

Ron Weasley x Reader
Summary: The day Ron tells you he loves you.
Word Count: 3.6k
Warnings: loss of a home, Fred is alive, mild angst, fluff, requited love, kissing
A/N: This fic is inspired by Pretty Boy by The Neighbourhood!
Tumblr media
The last traces of summer had rapidly faded as the season changed to autumn, the once warm weather now chilled and brisk. It had been a whirlwind of a year thus far, one that was exceedingly more undesirable than most with the war having transpired. It brought with it a myriad of losses and misfortune for all that had been involved to fight against the Dark Lord.
The most noticeable loss for the Weasley family was the destruction of their family home. It was near ash and ruins but a few months ago, devastating and left in tatters as it no longer stood tall lopsidedly wonderful. While it was life altering and an act of complete and utter cruelty, they remained grateful that each and every member of their tight knit family remained alive and well. That’s what always mattered most to them, what will always matter.
Now that fall has rolled around after three months of hard work and effort put in from you and the beloved family, the Burrow was officially rebuilt. It didn’t house the same memories as it once had, it couldn’t have, but it stood tall and beautifully imperfect once more. It was a home that could only possibly be held up by magic otherwise it just might topple over with the number of floors it had. The pots and pans had scrubbed themselves once more, the chimney puffed out smoke yet again, the home was now bustling with a familiar boisterous energy once again in a way only they could manage to create.
Spending that time with them was time you were grateful to have, though you found yourself to be with Ron more so than anyone else. No matter what the instance may have been, you always seem to seek each other out as if it were a subconscious act. It was a wordless fact seemingly known to just about everyone but the very two people who’d been doing it, but that didn’t come as a surprise to anyone at all.
It’d been three years in the making of watching their lovestruck brother and equally lovestruck best friend pine for each other, of watching you both be so oblivious it was almost painful. Three years of catching him gaze at you with the softest of smiles when you weren’t looking, one so adoring Molly nearly cries every time, and of you doing just the same when his attentions were focused elsewhere. Three years of watching you two brush hands when you walk side by side followed by the promise of blushing cheeks when you realized the electrifying encounter. It had been frustrating years in the making of watching two people they loved so dearly be so blissfully unaware of just how in love they truly were with each other.
They were ready to take matters into their own hands and make it known themselves.
Currently, Mrs. Weasley has assigned both you and Ron the task of stopping by the bakery in town. She’d wanted an assortment of pastries as a part of a way to celebrate the finishing of their new home. She had made more than enough of her own in her newly remodeled kitchen of course, but she had her mind set on blueberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies made from none other than Hazel’s Bakery.
She most certainly did not send the two of you in particular in an effort to get you to spend some alone time. No, definitely not.
“Are you warm enough?” Ron asks as you leave through the front door, stepping out into the brisk weather.
You nod, cheeks staining a soft pink at the gentle caring he had for you, the question falling from his lips like it’d been second nature. Caring for you, being protective of you, it was second nature by that point. He doesn’t believe he could help it even if he tried, but he doesn’t want to. Despite the fluttering of your heart you couldn’t help your teasing smile. “Yes. But I suppose it’d be far warmer if we drove there.”
He caught onto your teasing and rolled his eyes, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth nonetheless. “Are you ever going to stop teasing me for that, Y/n/n?”
You pretend to give his question some serious thought, puckering your lips as you squint your gaze and tap your finger against your cheek. His laughter broke you from your actions. “No, I don’t think I will, Ronnie.”
Your own laughter was immediate at the scrunch of his nose upon hearing the nickname he loathed so much, more so at the playful narrowing of his blue stare. Maybe he didn’t hate it when it fell from your lips. However, you quickly appeased his obvious displeasure of the name as you brushed the pad of your thumb over his chin, his blushing smile soon to return as he looked at his feet to steady his racing heart. He knew his cheeks had to have matched the leaves on the trees by now. They always had been when in your presence.
You shook your head with a smile as you focused your attention on anywhere but him to avoid worsening the heat in your cheeks. Rather, you focused on the graying of the sky and the way the grass rippled beneath the wind. You listened to the leaves crunching under both your footfalls and the sound they made as the breeze washed over them. For lack of a better word, this time of year had been the most magical, and it seemed as though Ron fit right in with the hues of his hair and equally his attire. Equally his flushed cheeks.
A single wildflower had caught your stare, standing tall amongst the fading green grass. You slowed your stride to bend down and pluck it from the ground, turning to look at Ron who’d now stood paces from you with a curious brow raised.
“What is it?”
You held up the yellow flower, the stem pinched between your fingers as you beamed. In a matter of seconds you ran to him the short distance he was from you, his smile now apparent.
“What are you doing?” He asks with a laugh, one to stave off the way his breath hitched as you leaned up to tuck it within the red hair just above his ear.
It appeared golden amongst the rosy ginger shade and he smiled down at you fondly for a brief moment before shaking his head, not making a move to take it out. You smiled up at him, biting the inside of your cheek to hide just how giddy he’d made you feel in that very moment. You suppose there wasn’t even a reason to feel as such, but that hadn’t mattered; the feeling occurred whenever it so pleased, and it was more often than not it seemed.
You reached the end of the long driveway and took his hand without a second thought, sharing a smile before apparating from the property.
In mere dizzying seconds you had appeared in the ever familiar and unfrequented alleyway, taking a moment to adjust before stepping into foot traffic along with everyone else in the town. It wasn’t as busy as some days it could be, but regardless it was always a fun trip to walk about, it was cozy.
Almost in the very same moment did the two of you realize you’d still been holding hands, releasing the other as you looked your separate ways for just a second. He’d wanted to reach out and hold it once more, to interlock his fingers with yours. He hadn’t really wanted to let go. You risked a glance and he risked his and it wasn’t hard to tell when Ron Weasley has been fighting a smile. Perhaps what was more obvious was the little yellow flower that somehow still remained in his hair. You decided then and there not to mention it.
The denim of your jacket proved to be far less warm than you had thought it to be, or maybe it’d just gotten colder. Either way, as you walked down that sidewalk, you weren’t ready to let Ron know he’d been right in telling you to wear something heavier before you left the house. He always seemed to be right about those kinds of things.
Ron grabbed your wrist to keep you from walking past the bakery, his grin teasing as he held open the green painted door. You were far too distracted by him for your own good.
The smell of coffee and sweets had been instant upon entering, a little bell overhead signaling your entrance into the small yet cozy shop. The showcase had been filled with fresh pastries and baked goods, the line not yet as lengthy it surely would be now that Hazel had switched the sign to ‘open’.
The kind older woman had greeted you as warmly as she did each and every time she’d seen you, making a point to pinch Ron’s cheeks much like his own mother had.
“Hazel! We’ve talked about this,” Ron whines, rubbing his newly reddened cheeks.
“Oh hush, my dear boy,” she says, turning to you. “How do you put up with him?”
You laugh at that, shrugging your shoulders. “I must admit, it is but a wonder indeed, Hazel.”
You look to Ron who’d furrowed his brows at you, lips pursed in faux offense as you smile beamingly up at him. One that dissolved any look to displeasure. One that caused the woman behind the counter to nearly gush about what a wonderful couple you’d be, something that was also very much like his mother.
You placed your order and asked for extra, knowing if you hadn’t that surely Ron would have eaten far too many for Molly not to notice. Though you knew for a fact she’d be able to tell either way. She talked you into staying for just a little bit longer, the promise of hot cocoa far too enticing to turn down as you still felt the shivering effects of the chilly fall weather.
“You really thought I’d eat three muffins?” Ron scoffs, mouth full as a few crumbs fall past his lips.
You roll your eyes and shake your head as you walk down the cracked sidewalk, the steaming paper bag clutched in your hand. “You’ve eaten two already.”
“Did I?” He asks, brows furrowed as he halts momentarily to recall it. The genuine shock and confusion painted on his expression had you laughing as you grabbed his hand, tugging him along the walkway before any more passers by all but run into you with looks of annoyance.
“Yes, you did,” you giggle, releasing his hand to link your arm with his once more.
“Well, they’re really good,” he defends as you continue walking. “Really good.”
You look up at him then, a soft smile on your lips as you do so. His cheeks were stained a soft pink from the chilly weather, accentuating the freckles dancing across them and the very bridge of his nose. At the curve of his smile and the dimples that formed when he did just that. Or perhaps it was the near unruly ginger hair that dipped over his forehead and covered his ears; he had yet to get a haircut much to his mother’s dismay. He was starting to resemble his fourth year self, a hair length he’d claimed he hated so very much but you were beginning to think otherwise.
“Are you staring?” He asks a short while later, a more than knowing grin on his lips that sent your stomach into a fit of butterflies and knots.
“You’ve got food on your face, how could I not?” You counter, though the scarlet in your cheeks is far too obvious. It was true, there were crumbs in the corner of his mouth that needed to be swept away, but you were not ready in the slightest to admit your admiring. “Plus you’ve still got that flower in your hair.”
His hand is quick to fly up and pluck it out, looking at the delicate little thing as his cheeks burned once more. So that was what Hazel was talking about. He smiles then with a soft laugh, stopping your stride once more to tuck it behind your ear.
“There, looks much better on you,” he mumbles, smile soft and adoring, one that lingered long after he’d looked away.
“I beg to differ.”
You’d noticed just how gloomy the sky had been, clouds puffy and gray as the breeze intensified just the slightest bit. It wasn’t something you minded, for it was rather scenic amongst the rapidly dwindling buildings the closer you got to the Burrow. You both had decided a walk back would be best given the bag of sweets you now have, not to mention the hot chocolates you each had provided just enough warmth for you to do so.
A sigh left your lips, one of contentment as you walked back in a comfortable silence and you rest your head on his shoulder. Your arm still hooked with his as he slowed his pace for you to keep up with him, and he’d since taken the bag from your hand so you wouldn’t have to carry it. It was the little things that you noticed that others might not; the little things that meant the most to you, that made your heart flutter. Like the way he will always wait for you when something catches your eye in a shop, not an ounce of impatience in him like he may have had with his siblings. Or how he’d save a plate of breakfast for you when you stay at his home because you’d woken up later than his brothers. It left your heart full.
He hadn’t been aware that you’d noticed those kinds of things; he finds he isn’t even aware of it sometimes. Living you had become second nature at this point, it was expressed in nearly everything he did. You were woven into his very heart and hadn’t even known as such. He doesn’t know how he made it quite this far without going absolutely mad, without his heart bursting in his chest every time you look at him the way you do. Every time you smile at him the way you do. It was his hopes that you’d reserved those kinds of looks, those kinds of smiles for just him. It had been his hope that somehow, someway, you had felt the same way.
He knew with all the certainty in the world that he needed to tell you. He doesn’t think he can go another day without telling you as such. He knows he can’t; he loved you from afar for nearly four years. If you don’t feel the same, if it’s all over after his confession, he can take this moment with him. Of your head on his shoulder, of the way you held his hand that day, of the way you looked at him. It needed to be spoken no matter how much it made his hands shake. He almost lost you in that war and he decided he couldn’t risk not telling you.
You reached the familiar stretch of trees lining the vacant road, the breeze having intensified more noticeably. The walk had been quiet save for the chirping of the birds and the crinkle if the bag Ron held, or the crunch of leaves and gravel under your feet. You couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend your afternoon, especially with the knowledge of the warm meal Molly had been preparing for dinner that night. The whole Weasley family would be there, Harry would be there, Hermione would be there. It was plans that made your stomach flip with excitement.
It wasn’t until then, at the very opening of the near dauntingly long dirt driveway that the rain had started to drizzle steadily. You suppose you expected it at that point, with the puffy gray clouds that rapidly blew over any and all sunlight, it had become more than evident that that would be the case.
You gasped upon the weathers sudden change in plans regardless, the icy downpour taking you by surprise. A jovial laugh soon sounded from your lips as you threw your hands up, looking around as it came down and rolled off the tri-colored leaves. They too fluttered down in a flurry of reds and oranges, and you were certain you’d never seen something quite so beautiful, quite so enchanting.
Spotting a nearby shelter beneath the branches of one of the large trees, you grabbed Ron’s hand, ready to pull him along with you though you quickly noticed he hasn’t budged any more than just a few steps. You turned to him then, rather confused in that moment and the more you stood exposed to the sudden storm the less useful it became to seek shelter from it. None of it seemed to matter as he stood there and gazed at you, ginger hair darkened a few shades as it stuck to his forehead and flushed cheeks. The smile on his face was quite possibly the softest you’d ever seen it be, and it held something different, remarkably different and you couldn’t put your finger on what it was. Though it seemed to be far too much as he looked away from you momentarily as if to gather himself, a soft laugh leaving his lips.
Everything felt that much more intense in that moment, and he felt as though his breath was caught in his throat as he stood before you. You were confused, that much was clear. You were still holding his hand in yours, still smiling at him with that smile. That had also been very clear. You were doused in the downpour and his heart beat wildly with each passing second, and if he opened and closed his mouth one more time he felt as though he just might look like an absolute fool.
“What are you doing?” You asked, taking a step closer as you look at him quizzically, “We’re just about soaked and you hate the rain—”
“I love you.”
The three words were spoken then, almost unheard against the heavy rain. They were soft and they were true, how could you not have heard them? Yet even though they clearly were, very clearly, it still hadn’t quite registered to you just exactly what he had just said. You couldn’t believe what you had heard.
“What?” You ask, a soft laugh leaving your lips. Not one of mocking, more of giddy surprise.
“I said I love you,” He repeats louder as he swallowed thickly, accompanied by a nervous laugh of his own as he wipes the wet strands of his hair out of his eyes.
The more time that had gone by, no matter how fleeting it made have been, the butterflies in his stomach were relentless. By this point the rain was of no importance, trying to stay dry was of no importance anymore. What was important was the way you grasped his flannel jacket and leaned on your toes, and the way you pressed your lips on his. Or the way you smiled against his lips as he pulled you close to him, as close as possible, dropping the soaked paper bag of pastries to the ground in favor of settling his hand on your cheek and tangling his fingertips in your hair.
You couldn’t help the quiet giggle that was threatening to break your moment; maybe it was the sheer loving intensity of it, or the fact that this was real and this was happening. But the way he kissed you, the way your heart beat so loudly you thought he could hear it, that’s what had kept you in that very real moment.
When you parted you hadn’t strayed more than a few inches as you looked up at him, beamed, his smile equally so as the two of you laughed softly. It was one of giddy love, of an unexpected moment of bliss. The feeling that the person you loved so wholly loved you back just as much. It was that kind of laugh.
“I love you,” you say, laughing once more as your foreheads touched in the fond moment. The tip of his nose had been flushed from the cold nipping at his skin, his smile brilliant and adoring and entirely telling of his love. “I love you.”
You kiss him again, soft and quick as you grabbed his hand before you spoke up after a short while to relish in your moment. “We’d better go inside!”
“Yeah,” he laughs, nodding in agreement even if he was perfectly content to stay there and kiss you. “I think we better.”
You pulled him along the muddy path as he laughed behind you at your antics. The two of you were breathless and soaked and still in a daze from the kiss you’d just shared mere moments ago as you rushed through the door. The look on Molly’s face changed from startled to quizzical as she took note of the sheer nothingness in either of your hands, her lips pursing and her arms crossing.
“Just where are the muffins? And the cookies?”
Ron looks to you with a smile and you the same, laughing softly amongst yourselves at the realization of just where they had been. The sight of your kiss swollen lips and flushed cheeks was telling enough of the reasoning such a blunder occurred. Not to mention the way the tips of his fingers still grasped yours. She knew. “We must’ve forgotten.”
He hadn’t broken his gaze from you quite yet as he spoke, far too lovestruck to do so. Far too enamored.

lovesick fool

A/N: Thank you for reading, let me know what you think! Requests are open!

Another day at a boring, mediocre job that Johnny surprisingly looked forward to. All because of you. Not that the job was actually boring, everyday brought something new with crazy customers and situations that Johnny had never even imagined for himself. Where else could someone order a turkey club sandwich with just tomato and lettuce, no turkey, add bacon but not order a BLT?
“Hello wifey, how are things going today?” Johnny greeted while going through your regular conversations of the day at work, no lunch rush yet, no crazy tables, chit chatting about that one shift manager that was always a bit weird and mean, and no rude customers he had to stare at threateningly.
“No Johnny,” you laughed lightly “but thank you, honey. By the way you are really rocking your uniform today”
Johnny watched as you returned to your table, placing the receipt on the table with your very sweet, but still customer smile. He had yet to really admit it to himself but others had noticed, he liked you- a lot and was beyond obvious about his crush. The whole “wife” and “husband” joke stemmed from the desire very deep down within him that maybe he really did want you to be his wife one day, maybe that joke between the both of you had triggered his crush. Though he wasn’t going to admit that now- or ever, he hadn't even admitted his feelings to himself. He liked the dynamic the both of you had established after years of working together and the friendship that had developed thanks to the job, even if the job did suck. You guys could joke around and have fun in an environment that you would both dread if the other happened to not be there. You had both become, almost, best friends.
“Are you ready to work today, or are you just going to stand there like a lovesick fool?” His manager asked playfully.
“Huh? Right on it!” Johnny smiled, grabbing his notepad and heading towards a newly seated table.
The day continued on like any other day for Johnny, fake smiling, taking orders, hurting feet, keeping an eye out for you and admiring you but very subtly- not in a creepy way or anything.
What was beyond abnormal for him was to see you laughing with one of the guests, a genuine laugh, not your fake laugh that you used when dads made horrible jokes. But Johnny recognized this guy, he always came in and sat in Johnny’s section and stared at you, sometimes making conversation but usually, he tried as hard as possible to get your attention. What a sight to see. Mostly by making you do extra work like bringing him extra napkins or a refill when you weren’t even waiting tables in that section.
It wasn’t like this guy was a weirdo or anything, he was a college student like you and Johnny, he was nice, handsome (ish), and he always left great tips. What was not to like about this guy? Well, for starters, he was hitting on you, and Johnny didn’t like that. Johnny hated how it made him feel considering he didn’t even know why this guy flirting with you made him feel sick to his stomach in the first place- well he did but he didn’t want to say why. Johnny continued to watch you as he waited on an order for one of his tables, still confused with what he was feeling and curious as to what the heck this guy was telling you to make you laugh so hard. Johnny thought he was funny, but it had taken him a while to get you to laugh like you were laughing now.
And three days later this guy showed up again, leaving his number on the receipt with a hefty tip just for you and a note that told you to text him if you were interested in getting that coffee you guys had talked about. And Johhny had had the honor of seeing and delivering that stupid receipt to you even if this guy was seated in Johnny’s section like usual.
“Are you leaving me for lover boy?” Johnny joked as he snatched the receipt from your hand to read over the words and numbers again.
“His name is not lover boy, it's Yuta, he’s just nice and he knows my brother. That’s all, don’t worry.” You replied, quickly taking the receipt back and placing it in your pocket while handing Johnny the tip.
“Are you going to go on a date with him? Yuta, I mean not your brother, because that would be weird.” Johnny asked.
“You’re acting weird lover… can we talk about this later, you can see that you have three new tables seated in your section right?”
“Don’t think I’m letting you get away with not talking about this too easy, I’ll remember this and show up at your house demanding answers when you least expect it.”
“Of course, I’d expect nothing less, my love.” You replied, the term of endearment dripping in sarcasm but it didn’t stop Johnny’s heart from racing a mile a minute at the simple two words, my love.
-
Given that Johnny would have the next 3 days off, he sat at home making himself busy to keep his mind off your date, was it a date? Why was Johnny so nervous about this? Should he text you? Call you? Should Johnny ask you out to coffee now too? Did you even text the guy? Was he worrying about nothing? Was the tv he was staring at even on?
“I can literally see steam pouring out of your ears, your brain must be in overdrive. Are you good?” Johnny’s roommate, Jaehyun, asked with a chuckle.
“Hypothetical situation here, if you were a girl, and we were basically best friends, and we called each other husband and wife, and just overall had a good time when we were together, would you say yes if I were to ask you out?”
“Oh are you finally realizing your feelings for y/n?” Jaehyun asked, his eyes leaving his phone to land on his roommate who was nervously biting his lip, waiting for an answer.
“This isn’t about me.” Johnny laughed nervously, very obviously lying through his teeth.
“Okay… well then your friend should just ask her out. Even if she does reject him- I don’t think she will, but if she did, you said it yourself, she’s your best friend, after me of course. First and foremost you guys are friends above everything.” Jaehyun smiled.
“But there’s another guy that comes in all the time and all he does is hit on her and she laughs! He left his number for her and she got kind of defensive when I joked about it. It’s kind of weird watching him make heart eyes at her every time he walks in especially when she isn’t even his waitress! Even his name is cool! Yuta! I’ll just be her forever work husband, nothing more.” Johnny whined.
“You make her laugh and make heart eyes at her too, I’m not seeing exactly what the problem here is. And Johnny sounds super cool too!”
“You don’t get me.” Johnny sighed, giving up and now letting his mind run wild with endless possibilities of what you may or may not have done in the three days he hasn’t seen you.
-
He was practically vibrating as he made his way into the restaurant after his time off, excitement, anxiety, his coffee that morning, whatever it was. He was never excited or anxious to come to work, god no, he was only ever excited to see you but never anxious.
“Johnny! I missed you. Your hair looks different today, but good.” You smiled, pulling Johnny into a big hug.
“Thanks, but did you really miss me? I loved seeing the texts I received from you every two seconds. Wait, that didn’t happen.” Johnny joked, it was so weird how you made him feel nervous but simultaneously made his nerves disappear.
You scoffed, lightly hitting his arm, “I was thinking about you a lot though, I forgot how horrendous work is without you.”
“Lovely to hear you guys, why don’t you both get to your horrible work and then chat about it later after your shifts? Preferably not in the restaurant where paying customers can hear, thanks.” Your manager chuckled.
“Yes, my liege... What time are you off today? Want to hang out?” You asked Johnny.
“Your boyfriend won’t be mad that you’re hanging out with me?”
“What boyfriend?”
“Go work!” Your manager yelled out.
“We can talk about this later, hello, would you like to hear today’s specials?” You greeted a table of customers with a smile.
Johnny worked for his short shift, greeting customers with a smile, taking orders, and bringing food to tables. He looked normal, but on the inside he was an anxious mess, he had decided that today he was going to confess his feelings to you. He was just lucky that your guy friend, boyfriend, his replacement, Yuta, whatever that guy was, had decided not to come in today, that would have made Johnny even more nervous. If the confession went wrong, there were other jobs Johnny could work, more restaurants or anything else he chose. He had always liked coffee, maybe he could work as a barista. It couldn’t be that hard to work a coffee- “Johnny, your shift is up. See you, tomorrow dude.”
Johnny made his way to the break room after clocking out, leaving the apron he wore at work and grabbing his things, already planning in his head how he was going to tell you that he likes you.
“Johnny, hello? Did you still want to hang out?” You asked.
“Huh? Oh yeah, where were you thinking?”
You guys had decided to go to a little cafe a few blocks away that Johnny had been telling you about for months. Even when you had told him you were scared that his favorite cafe would blow your favorite cafe out of the water. He had just been so convincing, telling you he wanted you to try a latte, an americano, with a great nutty taste from South America, even a hot chocolate made with the perfect mix of milk chocolate and dark chocolate, he even said the pastries were freshly baked in store daily. Really he had just looked so excited when he went into extreme detail about the menu, you really felt like you had to try it now. He also looked so cute when his eyes lit up while he talked about the great muffins, yes, he had tried every single muffin they had.
“So I suggest we share a hot chocolate, because it’s great but you have to try something with coffee in it, they make it even better than I do.” He smiled.
“I trust you to order me a latte then, any flavor you wish. Should we split a muffin or a croissant or do you want us to get our own pastry?”
“Let’s get our own but split them.” Johnny suggested, which sounded good to you so you just nodded.
Once the order was placed, you both took a seat at a table towards the back of the cafe near a big window that had a good view of the little garden next to the cafe.
“So, I wanted to ask you something.” You started. Johnny looked at you nervously, eyes big and full of surprise. “Why do you call Yuta my lover boy?”
Johnny laughed nervously, “Well, he always flirts with you when he comes in, he doesn’t seem to take his eyes off of you, he makes you laugh a whole lot. He also left you his number, I just assumed that you guys were a thing or a potential thing.”
You laughed, “Yuta was my childhood neighbor before he and his family moved back to Japan, he moved back and goes to a college nearby. I guess all the staring was to see if it was actually me.”
“The flirting and his number?”
“Ok, so he is a naturally flirty person but he’s not into me, he left his number for my brother. They were best friends when we were younger. I think he just wants to see what Mark is up to and catch up with him, he gave me his number to give to Mark.” You explained with a shy smile. “Why do you care so much anyway, Johnny?”
Johnny let out a loud sigh of relief with a smile, scaring the barista who was bringing out your drinks and pastries. “So… I was jealous of Yuta because I really like you. Like not just as my work wife or one of my best friends, and I don’t even think this is just a crush, I really really like you y/n. I was an idiot to wait so long and let jealousy bring it out of me.”
“Johnny… wow.”
“You don’t have to tell me you like me back and only like me as a friend. It’s fine and I totally understand, I don’t want this to ruin our friendsh-”
“Johnny, shut up! I like you too! I thought it was super obvious, but I guess not.” You laughed, cheeks hot while you avoided eye contact with Johnny.
“This is great! Can we make this a date now? I really want this to be a date. I’m also so happy Yuta isn’t into you. Not that you aren’t cool, like you totally are, and Yuta would be missing out on a whole lot because he doesn’t like you like that, but I really like you.” Johnny rambled before you pushed part of a muffin past his lips.
“I’m happy this is a date too, now please, stop being weird.” You laughed, causing Johnny to blush.
“I can’t believe I made THE Johnny blush on our first date, I must be really special to you.” You cheekily smiled, leaving Johnny to blush even more.
“Am I allowed to flirt with you in front of Yuta now?” Johnny asked, resulting in a light kick to his shin. “Ow! It was a joke babe!”

honey — bakugou katsuki
— info :: bakugou x gn!reader ; sfw ; fluff & humour ; 6.04k words.
— contents :: quirkless reader ; reader’s pov ; scheming friends ; dumbass!reader ; slight cussing ; confessions.
— synopsis :: if there’s one thing that you have in common with bakugou katsuki, it’s obliviousness to the other’s feelings. a haunted house is the best place to resolve misunderstandings.
— note :: it’s been a while; I finally finished this!! :D it’s a continuation to bakugou’s “pining”, and I’d suggest reading that first for the full experience™ but there are hints dropped throughout “honey” to give you an idea of what happened! I hope y’all like this! :)
Tumblr media
quite honestly, you've got to be the biggest idiot possible.
really, you had the best chance.
it’s not like confessing to bakugou katsuki would be that bad, right? the most he’d do is turn you down with a scoff and then go back to pretending you don’t exist while chasing his heroic dreams.
he’s not big on humiliating people unless they’re— a: aspiring heroes, or b: midoriya izuku.
he definitely wouldn’t lord it over your head and tease you about it.
kaminari really gave you the best opportunity to get things out in the open!
and you let it slip through your fingers like an idiot.
furthermore, you really did also say that you have absolutely no romantic interest in the explosive pretty boy. you acted like the idea of harboring any feelings towards him shocked you. you also acted like he was the weird one for thinking you liked him.
while having a raging crush on him which really makes your heart beat and bounce around in your ribcage as if getting a firsthand taste of his quirk.
have you mentioned that you’re an idiot?
right, you have done that enough times, so maybe the next step is to explain why.
you’d been out running an errand when you’d come across midoriya izuku.
midoriya; the only other quirkless student in your year, in junior high. you’d never talked much to him, but you’d felt a sense of camaraderie with him whenever you saw him. the school was small enough that you could count the number of quirkless people on one hand.
you and deku were included in that number.
the only reason why you didn’t get picked on for the reasons he did was because you never wanted to be a hero.
and you avoided bakugou katsuki like the plague.
to be honest, you hated him at first.
you’d seen it all, but hadn’t been able to do anything other than giving midoriya a few words of comfort which felt hollow to your own ears. you still blamed yourself a little for having never helped him properly.
you loathed bakugou for being as powerful as he was, as arrogant and stuck up as he was, and for being the petty bully who really thought he was better than someone just because of a quirk.
you were bitter. not because you didn’t have a quirk, but because people like him made people like you feel like you weren’t worth anything.
that’s why, when you chanced upon midoriya after such a long time, you were elated.
you were so happy when you found out that he really did have what it takes to be a hero.
if you deliberately ignored bakugou, then that’s entirely on him and not on you.
you won’t be taking responsibility for things that aren’t your fault.
…you were also wary of him.
you didn’t want him to blow you up if you so much as smiled at him.
not that he deserved seeing your smile anyway.
that’s what you told yourself right in the beginning. and that’s what came to bite you in the ass, because some days you have to do your best to conceal your smile at the mention of the stupid explosive boy’s name.
he really does scare you, you didn’t lie about that. but despite that, your brain thinks that it’s fun to get flustered over someone who scares you. just a little bit! he’s losing that scariness rapidly in all situations except when you’ve seen him in action as a budding hero. you just get worried that he’s going to take one look at you and decide that you’re getting in his way, a nuisance to everyone, and whatever else he can think of you.
in all honesty, you’re aware that he was an idiot in middle school, and the majority of his issues stemmed from his convoluted relationship with midoriya. if midoriya himself can forgive him, then you don’t really have a reason to hold grudges. and you know he’s grown. he’s matured to an extent you never expected from him, but perhaps that’s how he goes through life.
exceeding expectations is something he’s great at.
and he’s grown into someone wonderfully inspiring, if not intimidating.
—juuuust a little!
uraraka finds out first.
you love that girl, but you could do without her knowing about your embarrassing crush on one bakugou katsuki.
if only she’d actually helped you out, instead of teasing you subtly to the point that you couldn’t even stay in the same room as bakugou—to the point that you vehemently denied any sort of interest in him when midoriya innocently brought up the other boy in a conversation.
it becomes a reflex to avoid anything related to bakugou and romance in the same space. which is how you landed yourself in the mess with kaminari.
so you’re going to blame uraraka. she’s definitely at fault! it’s not your wimpy self to blame!
“uraraka,” you end up mumbling into the phone, rocking back and forth while hiding your face against your knees, wishing to be swallowed whole.
“uraraka, i told kaminari that i don’t like him.” despite having promised yourself that you won’t bring the whole thing up with her, you can’t help it. she’s still your precious friend that you’re very fond of, and the same friend who wrangled out from you all of your embarrassing opinions of him.
“uraraka, he’s going to hate me now. he’s going to think i don’t think he’s cool or strong, or whatever else that might hurt his pride. he’s going to completely stop paying attention to me now!”
you may claim that you blame her, but you’re aware that she’s not at fault. she always tries hyping you up when you’re nervous and comforts you when you’re down. perhaps you’re taking advantage of her kindness, but you really don’t want to be left alone with your thoughts. and it really is her fault for being so encouraging when it comes to dealing with your feelings for bakugou katsuki.
so when your friend just wordlessly hums in response for the third time, your fingers clench in your hair and you let out a frustrated sigh. raising your pitch obnoxiously, you whine, “uraraka!”
“i love you, but if you call my name like that one more time i will tell deku.”
you freeze, not sure if she means telling him about your not-so-little crush, or merely the fact that you like singing uraraka’s name. she laughs mischievously, clearing up your confusion much too quickly, prompting you to let out frantic apologies and make her promise that she won’t let the cat out of the bag.
“really, though,” you mumble, “he didn’t even remember me. he asked me if i was messing with him using my quirk. i had to tell him i was quirkless and then deal with his anger.”
that gets her attention in an entirely different manner. she sounds positively incensed when she asks you why it matters if you’re quirkless, and you give her reasons that sound weak to your own ears.
“and how are you messing with him?”
that leads to you telling her about one of your earlier interactions with bakugou, back when you’d first started being friends with midoriya’s class. you mention how you were about ready to pass out when bakugou’s question registered in your mind and you had to tell him you were quirkless, before you’re back to bemoaning the conversation with kaminari.
and something clicks.
not in your brain.
but in uraraka’s.
it’s not just you avoiding bakugou.
bakugou avoids you like the plague.
the sensible part of you is relieved, but another, bigger and dumber, part of you is hurt. of course he’d avoid you if his friend asked you if you liked him, and you said you didn’t.
but ouch, you really didn’t expect it to hurt this much.
not that something like this should even matter to him, right? maybe it’s you who’s suddenly noticing that he avoids you, because now you have a reason to fixate on rather than trying to lie to yourself that bakugou is not entirely indifferent to you. he really has no reason to pay attention to you.
it all makes sense, but it doesn’t stop you from feeling saddened every time bakugou blatantly ignores you. nor does it stop you from going out of your mind wondering why kaminari, too, seems to avoid you at all costs. it’s not like you said you didn’t like him!
yes, it makes sense perfectly. but not to you.
it makes absolutely no sense to you.
midoriya’s advancing steadily in his hero career with uraraka’s help, because the latter convinces you to come meet up with the two of them on a rare day out, and the former conveniently drags bakugou out too.
really, such heroics, all for a friend’s pathetic love life? how heartwarming.
you’re still in shock at how easy it was, and god, you don’t want to think about the implications, with the way bakugou’s eyes flit from one to the other when he’s not looking at you.
you also don’t want to admit that you’re stealing glances out of the corner of your eye at the blond when you don’t feel his eyes boring into you.
talk about awkward.
you’ve always been enamoured by how smart bakugou actually is, but it works against you when he corners you after uraraka and midoriya mysteriously vanish under the guise of training.
(that too at an arcade, because gaming supposedly helps achieve better reflex. why is a quirkless person with no interest in being a hero even invited to this outing? one will never know. the only games being played here are with your frayed self-control.)
“oi, if you’re gonna avoid me, don’t be so obvious about it.”
“a—? avoid you?” you practically squeak, and his annoyance seems to increase. there’s something else that you can’t really put a finger to. you’d say he almost looks agitated? but there’s nothing to agitate himself over…
…unless he still thinks you’ve got a raging crush on him.
“nope!” you hastily respond before realising he’s not even said anything to you, but hey, it’s as good an answer to his complaint about you avoiding him.
why’s he complaining, anyway? shouldn’t he be glad no one’s getting in his way?
you ask as much, and he all but growls, words escaping him as you take a step back. bakugou is more susceptible to dramatics than one would think. you used to find it funny, but when such behaviour is aimed at you, you’re not sure how to respond.
“you think you can actually get in my way?” he bursts out, and you make a show of thinking about it, when internally every single one of your brain cells is rioting, self-composure in shambles as you’re rudely made aware of how little distance is between the two of you.
that’s fine, you’re strong, you’re not going to be weak in the face of bakugou katsuki’s incredibly attractive glower.
no, you’re not whipped, thank you very much, to the uraraka-shaped devil materialising in your mind.
ah, back to the matter at hand. it’s not possible for quirkless little you to get in his way, is it?
anyway—
“aren’t you the one avoiding me?” you’re going to try and turn this situation around on him even if it means confronting things you don’t want to.
he scoffs in disbelief, but by that time you’ve worked up the courage to look at him, and you see the look in his eyes. you’ve spent enough time around him to know what that means, even if you barely ever look at him. he looks like he’s been caught, and isn’t that the funniest little thing?
he notices the twitch of your mouth, his own eyes narrowing as it’s your turn to be caught now.
“kaminari,” bakugou says in lieu of a response, and your heart jumps in your throat. you don’t mind dropping a subject if he doesn’t plan on grilling you on it too—changing the subject would be great, but he just picked one even worse than the last!
“he’s stupid, don’t pay attention to him.”
“uh huh, he sure is,” you laugh nervously. if you’d had your bearings about you, you’d never have said that. as it is, your mind is still shaken up and hoping that he doesn’t catch on to the fact that you are the stupid one.
you’re also very busy battling a smug uraraka and shouting at incompetent old you for swooning in the face of your biggest problem. and for, you know, missing that golden chance to confess without anxiety.
“look at me.”
nuh uh, nope, not possible. you’re not going to survive looking into his pretty eyes.
he lets out another frustrated sound, and you wait for him to blow up again—maybe even cause explosions. you wonder why he’s not been doing that lately.
he gets tired of your stalling, and surprises you by getting in your line of sight, locking eyes with you.
ah, impatience is such a gorgeous look on him.
…and you’re insufferable.
“i am not avoiding you. why would i, idiot? there’s nothing i need to avoid you for.”
you nod, not quite believing him, but you really want to just move on from this. a part of you wonders if you should come clean. but bakugou really doesn’t seem like he wants to hear anything about that. it’s in the way his eyes flit away momentarily and his expression sours, and in the way he seems to be pushing himself to hold onto some shreds of self-control.
all you can do is nod, really.
“where’s deku?”
you’re barely able to carry on the conversation, making some excuse or the other as to your missing friend(s), doing your best to act like you don’t have a clue either. if he finds your behaviour suspicious, bakugou doesn’t comment on it.
he does comment on something else. again.
“you don’t have to keep avoiding me just because of pikachu either.”
really? there’s nothing better for him to talk about? you thought you were past this! and calling kaminari ‘pikachu’ is not that smart!
“pikachu was cute…” you mumble. and you need to be louder, because you don’t want bakugou leaning in any closer to hear you.
the proximity is doing things to you.
things like making you forget that he probably hates your guts and doesn’t want to spend time with you, nor talk to you, at all. things like how he’s probably upset at being stuck babysitting you while midoriya and uraraka are off who knows where. things like making you discuss the cute factor of a magic ball–inhabiting yellow electric creature when bakugou clearly means the boy who almost outed your silly crush.
the boy who was giving you the best opportunity to confess!!!
if there’s one person who will never let you forget that, it’s your own self.
bakugou makes a sound that almost sounds like laughter, but there’s no way, right?
he shuffles back slightly, making it that much easier to breathe before he drops another bomb.
“school festival.”
you blink.
“it’ll be next month. make sure you’re free.”
oh. the stupid part of you is internally rejoicing, but since there is no way that he’d actually ask you to come—
“a-are you asking me to visit…?”
no no no, you didn’t mean to ask—
bakugou gives you a flat stare, and you gulp. so you were right for once.
you mull over it for a moment, the concrete under your feet extremely interesting before meeting his eyes again, “am i allowed to?”
“you practically live with us with how often i see you in the dorms. you think they’ll stop you now?” he snorts, rolling his eyes, but there’s not as much bite to his words as one would expect.
he has a point.
but you can’t really see reason when every single cell of your body is screaming ‘IT’S A DATE’ over and over again.
you groan, before swallowing back the sound. uh oh, bakugou’s going to think you don’t want to—
“come when you can.”
hands in his pockets, he walks off as if he wasn’t just making you go through all stages of panic.
uraraka tells you why she vanished. she was simply being a ‘good friend’ and trying to get you and bakugou to reconcile. you politely tell her it wasn’t required, especially because there wasn’t much that happened.
except the fact that he asked you to turn up to the festival, so that’s nice, at least.
uraraka doesn’t react as expected, again, and she utters the cursed words that you never wanted to hear out loud. “aw, a date!”
“uraraka, no!”
but it’s too late. it’s been said and now you can’t think of anything else. you know it’s not a date, any sane person would know that, but you can’t stop thinking of that one stupid word and bakugou and the school festival and spending time with bakugou at the festival—
“uraraka… the festival— i’ll need to see him. i’ll see him having the time of his life while he’s in his element, i’ll see that infuriating face— i’ll have to spend time with him—”
“y/n,” uraraka gives you a look that’s the perfect amount of wary and pitying to make you embarrassed, but there are bigger things to worry about than your friend’s opinion of you.
“this is bakugou we’re talking about. he’s not that open about having fun unless it has something to do with murder.” the fact that he won’t be keen on spending time with you goes unsaid, but you know what she’s hinting at. “also, i don’t think you find his face as infuriating as you say.”
“still. bakugou katsuki. he… told me to— agh—”
and you’re back to square one, where the very mention of bakugou katsuki has you confused out of your mind because you don’t know how to act around him.
perfect.
time passes quicker when you’re hoping for the opposite, you find out when the days go by faster than you can blink. there’s just a week left before you have to see bakugou again, and it makes you nervous every time you think about it. which is a lot of times.
you’ve not seen the class in a while, since everyone told you they have a ‘surprise.’ you know they’re aiming to outdo their previous performance at the festival, you’re rooting for them. but without one of your main sources of entertainment, things haven’t been eventful.
except the conversation you have with kaminari over text, because of course he somehow procured your contact information and of course he felt like he had to make amends.
maybe you were expecting it because you were already on edge from when bakugou confronted you, but kaminari doesn’t beat around the bush and gets straight to the matter, which is quite unlike the last time you both talked. that time.
“haven’t got the chance to check in w/ u in a while, we’ve been crazy busy! i hope u’ve been well >:D” shifts to “we’re good, right?” sooner than you’d like, and you’re left staring at your screen in shock as you try to think of an innocuous response that doesn’t give away your true emotions.
kaminari is too quick, and he doesn’t even give you a chance to think of a lie before the next ping distracts you, leaving you staring at the latest message in horror; “blame bakugou! he’s the one who told us you like him! i’m really sorry! :(”
it’s nice of him to apologise, but you really have other things to think about.
like how it’s bakugou katsuki himself who apparently thought you had a crush on him.
he knew.
he knows.
he knows he knows he knows—
no, no, he doesn’t know. he can’t. maybe he was just suspicious.
and on the off chance that he does know, then of course. he’s smart. you’re stupidly obvious. of course he’d figure out.
but he doesn’t seem to hate you. he was the one who approached you every time! when he asked you to turn your quirk off, when he supposedly instructed kaminari to ask you if you liked him, and when he told you to visit for the festival.
you like to think that he’s just too busy training to even realise that you like him. you hope that’s the case. you can always come clean and admit that yes, you really do like him. but there’s also your lame excuse of a pride that remembers the unreadable expression on his face when he’d heard you then, before promptly leaving, the door shut slamming shut behind him.
perhaps it’s not your pride, but guilt. you don’t want to be annoying and get in his way. there are too many things going on in his life already, why would you want to add on to all of that with your silly lies? the same logic applies to a confession too, argues the part of you that lives and breathes denial.
looking at it from another perspective, bakugou likes the attention and admiration. maybe it would’ve been for the best if you’d just admitted—
it’s too late now, so the most you can do is type out a hasty response to kaminari before he suspects your silence.
“it’s totally ok. we’re good :DD will see you guys soon!”
it’s purely to hold yourself accountable and not weasel your way out of the inevitable trip, but kaminari’s enthusiastic response manages to bring a smile to your face.
the evening before the grand day, you call uraraka up before the jitters can defeat you. she doesn’t react much other than humming and speaking a few encouraging statements while you lament over your luck and try to subtly ask her how bakugou has been doing.
“i’m sure he’s… excited.” you can practically feel the smile gracing her lips, and you know she’s having fun at your expense. when does she not?
you know she’s also having fun when she calls you a whiny complainer and says bakugou would probably blow up if he knew even a bit of it, and you – predictably – complain more, blaming her for meddling and bringing you to this point.
bakugou doesn’t need to know about your penchant for whining when things don’t go your way. you think he’s only ever seen you smiling and speaking politely with everyone, if he’s even been looking. that’s good, you don’t want him to find you bothersome. you’ve been doing your best to appear sophisticated around him.
no amount of complaining and whining could prepare you for when bakugou turns around and grabs at your wrist.
bakugou’s too close again—things are suddenly eventful.
“too damn slow, are you trying to get lost?” he grumbles as he pulls you through the throng of people, and you smile weakly, internally telling yourself to get your act together and not let on how frazzled you feel at that moment.
you don’t know whether it’s your own skin heating up under his touch, or if his quirk is responsible. for a moment, it reminds you of when he asked you if you’re using your quirk on him. it’s sudden enough that it makes you snort under your breath before you catch yourself. he gives you a quizzical look out of the corner of his eye, and you shrug, smiling lightly. that sates his curiosity, and he looks ahead again as he moves towards a predetermined destination.
it’s a lot easier to deal with his hand against yours after that. eventually, he lets go, and you find yourself missing the warmth for a moment.
the warmth completely leaves you when you find yourself in front of—
“a haunted house.”
“congrats. we’re going in. let’s see how shitty it is.”
you get the sinking suspicion that he plans to rip everyone’s confidence to shreds, and you don’t want to be around for that, but he doesn’t give you a chance to protest. you’re not supposed to be overstaying your welcome or overstepping your boundaries either, so you resign yourself to following him around quietly and perhaps apologising to his victims if he goes too far.
you’re his only victim.
you only make your way through a few scares before you get the scare.
bakugou katsuki promptly turns to you, glaring. you, being the genius that you are, take a step away from him. this continues till you’re best friends with the wall, and you try not to panic at the feeling of something slimy now clinging to your shoulder.
how can you, anyway? you’ve got bakugou staring at you with a contemplative look, almost as if he’s looking into your very soul.
“you talked to the idiot.”
“there are many idiots,” you mumble, knowing full well which idiot he’s referring to. you hope kaminari hasn’t tricked you yet again. did bakugou put him up to that conversation— there are too many things you don’t feel you have in yourself to think about.
something changes, then, and he lets out a sigh, running a hand through his hair. he seems agitated, almost awkward, and you wonder why.
“you piss me off.”
huh? is he talking about how much you get in his way and bother him and make things hard for him and—
“kirishima told me.”
…did another person figure out about your crush? kirishima’s always seemed really sweet, and you don’t think he’s the kind that would deliberately spill any secrets. it wouldn’t be manly, right?
“he told me i should apologise.”
“huh?” you really can’t hold it in. why is he the one apologising? shouldn’t you…? and why is he apologising by telling you that you piss him off?
“he said i shouldn’t have put you on the spot and then avoided you. dunno why he thinks he has any say in the matter but you know what i realised? maybe you think like that too. maybe you’re,” he spreads apart his fingers before making a fist and scowling at it, “hurt. and you really did avoid me after that.”
you don’t say anything, still stuck on how constipated he’d looked just moments ago. you’re not supposed to be amused right now.
“oi, say something. aren’t you gonna deny it?”
still nothing.
“say something before i leave this place without you.” your incredulity shows on your face, and he huffs, “what do you want?”
“i… i don’t need an apology… everything’s okay…” it’s not, but you don’t want him to look further into this. there’s no point. “i’m not hurt, bakugou. there’s no reason for you to apologise.”
“then why’re you still acting so jumpy? i told you, just forget about what the electric idiot said and go on merrily through life. i told him not to bring it up with you again.”
“he said you told them i like you.”
he mutters something under his breath, no doubt cursing his friend out after you throw him under the bus. but he doesn’t let it affect him, straightening up again as he looks at you.
“miscalculation,” he shrugs, “i told them to drop it after you said you didn’t.”
“you believe me?” you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, but it slips out before you can stop yourself.
“no shit. you telling me you lied?”
you gulp. all of a sudden, the slimy wall is so interesting!
“stop avoiding my eyes, dammit!” bakugou comments, frustrated, and you inhale sharply.
“stop making me so nervous, then!”
uh oh. you shouldn’t have said that. it’s the game changer.
“i make you nervous?”
you don’t answer, hoping he drops it. he doesn’t, and he repeats the question. still, you can’t crumble just because he looks impatient, and you shrug non-committally. something tells you that the situation is steadily turning against you.
”hey, tell me. i make you nervous?” his grin is absolutely roguish as he waits for you to answer.
you still don’t speak, telling yourself that you won’t rise to the bait, you won’t respond to him because you’ve said way more than you needed to—
“weakling,” he sing-songs, and your jaw clenches.
“being nervous around someone isn’t necessarily a sign of weakness, bakugou. sometimes it’s also a sign of being wise.” there goes your plan.
“hah, are you saying that you’re wise for being nervous and avoiding me? what am i gonna do, eat you?”
“i don’t know, maybe executive some explosive murderous strategies?”
“i wouldn’t do that,” he spits out, running a hand through his hair. why is every pore of him screaming agitation? “it’s no fun defeating you when we’re not even competing.”
“oh really? then what’s your idea of fun?”
“when you tell me i make you nervous even though i’m not doing anything.”
“aren’t you supposed to be apologising to me?”
he snorts, “never. i only told you what some idiot thinks. but i can understand why you avoid me, i make you nervous after all.”
his self-satisfied laughter infuriates you, yet makes your own lips twitch.
he lets out a put-upon sigh, and scuffles the floor with his shoe.
“me too, dumbass.”
“huh?”
“you make me nervous too, idiot.”
“huh?”
face mere centimetres away from yours, he lowers his voice to a whisper, “i’ll only say this once, so keep your ears open if you want to know. i miscalculated. i thought you had a thing for me because you didn’t meet my damn eyes always gave pretty answers whenever you talked to me. but you didn’t. i was…” he gulps before clearing his throat, sounding far too aggressive in that moment before he practically grits out: “projecting. i was projecting because i’m apparently into you.”
you stare at him speechlessly. try as you might, you can’t think of a response. you don’t even know what he means by the last bit. surely he couldn’t mean…? why you, of all people? but you’re worried he might leave, his threat from earlier still rings clear. so you resign yourself into taking his words at face value and admitting the truth.
no, it’s not resignation. it’s the resolve you’ve been lacking for a while now, finally coming together after hearing that from bakugou. even if this is a cruel prank, you’ll survive. you just need to get it out before it consumes you and ends up being a what-if, years down the line.
“you may have projected, but it wasn’t a miscalculation. it’s… not entirely… unreciprocated. the feeling is mutual, you could say.”
it’s out now, and you’re alright. the ground doesn’t swallow you up, bakugou katsuki doesn’t blast you headfirst into slimy walls. nothing happens. the moment remains suspended in time, or perhaps time is suspended in that moment.
bakugou’s eyes narrow as he mulls over your words. he glares at you again. it’s muted.
“if it’s reciprocated, shouldn’t you be doing your best to cling to me every chance you get?”
him being reasonable and quiet puts you at ease. the words come out more easily.
“shouldn’t you have done the same?” he scoffs at your question, but doesn’t offer a response, so you continue, ”bakugou, you know why you avoided me, and i know why i avoided you. i didn’t want to get in your way. and i didn’t want anyone else to catch onto it.”
“was deku in on it?”
you know how he’ll respond if he knows midoriya had an inkling before him, so you hastily dispel the suspicion from his mind.
“you said you don’t know me well.”
“bakugou, you didn’t even remember me when we first met,” you reason with him, and he scowls. “it applies to both of us; we really don’t know each other enough.”
taking a deep breath, you continue, “as for the rest of it, i panicked. i admit i didn’t deal with the conversation as well as i should’ve, and some of the things that i said weren’t the nicest. i know it was hurtful even to kaminari, but i couldn’t help it.”
bakugou scoffs, “if anyone’s hurting, it’s only him. not that he has any reason to be.”
you wince as you’re reminded of the texts the boy sent you. now that you’re thinking clearly, you feel slightly bad for having been cold to him, and lied. but there are bigger matters at hand.
“you actually remember that conversation?”
“no shit, why else would i ask?”
“but… why? why do you remember it? that makes me feel a little guil–ty…” you trail off as sparks fly off his fingers, the explosion possibly unintentional. it allows you to see his face clearly in the dark, and the red tint to his ears surprises you. he’s glaring at the wall, not meeting your eyes, and your heart promptly melts.
“aw, bakugou, i didn’t know you cared—”
“shut the hell up!”
you wait for him to calm down as he sets off more explosions, but the smile on your face refuses to leave. he doesn’t seem to mind it either even as he glares at you, because there’s no harshness in his eyes.
“this doesn’t mean we’re dating,” he eventually declares, and you raise an eyebrow. “i won’t spend my time on things like that. we like each other, big deal.”
“i just said whatever you feel is not entirely unreciprocated. who says i like you?” you ask in a rare show of humour as you roll your eyes teasingly. sobering up, you nod slightly, “you could’ve worded it better, but i understand what you mean.” you hold up a hand to stop him from interrupting you. “don’t worry, i have no intention of getting in the way of something you’ve wanted practically your entire life, bakugou. it’d be stupid of me. and i know neither of us are ready for that level of commitment yet. it’s enough if we— you know…” you look at him pointedly, not wanting to utter the words. but it’s bakugou katsuki, and he’s run out of patience from after all the teasing you’ve subjected him to.
“it’s enough if we what—? tell me, i don’t know.” he leans in again, the petty side of him thriving. you’re starting to get used to his proximity; it’s what you tell yourself but you barely stop yourself from averting your eyes.
“i’m just saying it’s enough if we like each other. we can get to know each other slowly and that’s it. we don’t need to jump into something that has a low success rate in the first place.” he gives you an incredulous stare, and you elaborate, whistling, “high school flings are mostly just flings, bakugou.” it’s not the truth, but it’s not entirely a lie.
he makes a face at you. eventually, he exhales.
“so? you like me? can i ‘pass it off’ as that?”
“will you ever let that go?” you groan, and he only responds with a cocky tilt to his lips. “yes, i like you. i wonder why i do,” you huff. “why’d you bring me to a haunted house of all places?”
“so you could get scared and beg me to save you.”
(you make a note to yourself to tell uraraka later that it wasn’t a date. but truthfully, you’re not disappointed about that.)
you stare at him, unamused. “you scare me much more than any haunted house could.”
“then stop getting scared!”
from the way his face is angled away from yours, you’d almost think he’s pouting. your eyes move between his face and the steam—
you wait for his hand to stop steaming before reaching forward and taking hold of it.
you give him a wry smile.
he returns the gesture with the same wild eyes and disarming grin that first drew you to him.
word got out that someone had been threatening a visitor in the haunted house. bakugou’s friends are convinced that you both had another fallout—kaminari is too scared to even look in your direction. good for you, because he misses every time you and bakugou lock eyes.
you frequently find yourself stifling laughter.

“She’s doing this on purpose.”
“No she isn’t, hyung. That doesn’t make sense.” Namjoon picks up a rose, twirling it in inspection. “Does she even know you exist?”
Yoongi scoffs then, eyes darting from the arrangement in front of him to glare at Namjoon. “Of course she knows I exist. Our shops share a wall.”
Instead of replying, Namjoon rolls his eyes before refocusing, carefully watching the stem as his hand slides the knife down it to remove any thorns. Yoongi accepts his silence as defeat, puffing his chest. “So, like I was saying - she’s doing this on purpose, and she’s going to bleed me dry.”
The door swings open then, Hoseok and Jungkook both moving to the workstations with arms full of supplies, the latter’s eyes wide as he picks up on the conversation.
“Wait! Are you talking about Y/N noona?”
“Yes, and how she’s killing business-”
“Isn’t she just the coolest?!” Jungkook interrupts, beaming over at Yoongi. “Have you seen the designs for her flower cookies? And how she’s selling twelve of them in a pack and calling them ‘coo-quets’? Get it? Like instead of-”
“Bouquets, yes Jungkook, I get the pun.” Yoongi mutters dryly, setting the finished arrangement in it’s vase and sliding it to the side. Hoseok is laughing, so hard in fact that he misses Yoongi picking up a roll of tape until it beams him in the head.
“Hey! What was that for!” rubbing his crown, he glares at the florist before reluctantly picking up the tape, fixing the customer label to the side of the vase before moving it over to the fridge. “Don’t be violent with me just because you have the hots for the pretty baker next door.”
Yoongi sputters, hand slapping the top of the table. “I do not have the hots for-”
“Yeah yeah, we know, you definitely aren’t into Y/N, at all,” Namjoon deadpans, reaching into the box for his next rose to dethorn. “You don’t find her attractive, you didn’t stalk her and pretend to be a customer just so you could see inside her business, absolutely nothing to see here.”
“Your sarcasm is noted and also not appreciated,” Yoongi sniffs, before turning away from the taller man all together. “All I’m saying is, ever since she moved into that building, she’s caused issues. And now this is how she decides to promote for the Spring Blossom festival? It feels like an attack.”
“But hyung, it’s called the ‘Spring Blossom Festival’, I think leaning towards flowers would be kind of an obvious choice, right?” Jungkook prompts, head tilting in naive innocence.
Yoongi sighs heavily, head dropping to his chest, and wonders not for the first time why he thought hiring his friends to work with him was a good idea.
Maybe Jungkook had a point; maybe they all did. But that wasn’t enough to convince Yoongi that your motives were all sincere in nature. He was telling the truth when he said that ever since you had moved in next door, things had gone haywire for his small, locally loved floral shop.
He had only been in the space for about a year, but the street it was on had picked up in popularity with a new pub and restaurant concept on the corner, and a local farmers market moving in on the weekends. Quickly, his little business grew, people coming to him when seeking unique arrangements that were both beautiful and affordable. As demand increased, so did the need to hire more hands, and his friends had been enthusiastic to join his payroll.
For the most part, things had been smooth sailing.Training the others had been relatively easy, and what shortcomings they had, he was able to find a new strength they each brought to the business. He was comfortable, thriving, going to bed with a full belly and fat wallet, and it’s all he could ask for.
Until you.
Yoongi didn’t even see you until after you had already bought and renovated the building next door, the sign for your bakery going up and accenting the coral pink of the painted brick perfectly. He had thought it was cute; how bright and cheery your shop looked, how you were always dressed in flattering sundresses and heels, despite spending your days in a kitchen baking. He walked past your place daily to get to his own, and had found himself curious about what you were like, how good your food was, how successful you’d be.
He figured the aesthetic alone would bring in some customers, if not the increased foot traffic the farmers market brought in, and he wasn’t wrong. Your soft opening had gone well, a small line forming outside the building to Yoongi’s amusement. Word of mouth worked like a charm in your neighborhood, and a steady flow of regulars would greet him on his trek into work each morning at sunrise as they awaited their breakfast pastry and hot cup of coffee.
While this was great for you, it wasn’t so good for him. Your customers would always line up in the direction where they would block his window, meaning people walking by couldn’t get a glimpse at the creations he had displayed in the windows. Not to mention the littering - flurries of light brown napkins with your logo stamped in the middle usually lining the street in front of the shops, seemingly taunting him.
And then, the festival came. The Spring Blossom Festival, to be exact.
It was clever, he’d admit that much. The word play of ‘cookie’ and ‘bouquet’, the different color options of the edible flowers painstakingly drawn onto perfectly baked sugar cookies. You had really put thought and effort into the design, and he wasn’t surprised that it seemed to be a hit, dominating the first several days of the festival.
But that didn’t mean he liked it.
He watched helplessly as his sales dipped, as customers that would’ve wanted the real thing instead switched it up for prettily decorated consumable flowers, all cooing and preening over the treats in their matching boxes.
Yoongi had to retaliate. What else was there for him to do?
After watching you hang neon pink flyers up around the street, he had made some as well, deciding he’d place them conveniently directly over your own. Matching the paper to yours had been Namjoon's suggestion, and Yoongi had thought it was genius. That seemed to bring in a few more customers, but the lull still remained, his till and bank account making it painfully apparent.
It had been Jungkook's idea to photo bomb some of your promotional pictures when he spotted you posing in front of the shop, pristine desserts in hand and a floral dress on to match. Yoongi had shook his head but ultimately agreed, handing him one of his best designed bouquets and nudging him towards your bakery. Trying to make it look natural, he strolled back and forth in the background, making sure the flowers in his hand were always towards the camera, that he looked as if he was enjoying the festival as a patron. After about the fifth pass through, the boxy lipped young man taking your pictures had scowled, shouting after him to get out of the way. You had laughed, invited Jungkook to talk with you, even posted one of the pictures with him in it on your Instagram like it hadn’t phased you at all.
Now, here he was with only two more days left of the festival - a time that he should be making double - and with nothing more to show for it. Pre-made and custom bouquets lined the shop windows, hoping to entice anyone passing by, but most remained untouched and without a home to go to.
He was desperate.
"Why don't you just go talk to her?" Hoseok interjects, an eyebrow raised. "Maybe you can explain what's happening, see if she'd be willing to help out or team up or something."
Scoffing loudly, Yoongi kicks at the ground. "Team up? You think I want to team up with her? This is a serious business I run here, you know."
Hoseok gives Namjoon a passing glance over the blonde's head, not that he notices, too stuck inside his thoughts. It's Jungkook's loud voice that breaks the silence once more.
"Y/N noona is really nice, you know. And her cookies are so yummy, I bet she would love to help us!"
"You've tried her cookies, Jungkook?!" Yoongi’s voice raises, incredulous. "This is a sudden yet inevitable betrayal, you know. It really be your own friends."
"Seriously, Yoongi. You think she's cute anyway. Might as well go over under the pretense of business and at least see if you can score her number." Namjoon deadpanned, dropping his knife and making sure to show him every ounce of pleading desperation on his face.
Yoongi ponders for a beat or two, pretending to mull it over all the while recognizing that it couldn't hurt anything to go chat with his new neighbor, introduce himself. Who knows, maybe there was a deal to be made?
Tumblr media
You thought he was so cute, the grumpy little florist next door.
His mouth was perpetually in a pout, bottom lip upturned enough that it made him look like he was always inspecting, always exasperated. His eyes were sharp, but not in a judgmental way - more like in the way where you knew nothing went past his scrutinizing gaze, and they were offset by the soft white blonde of his hair, in the refined silver hoops that lined his ears.
Your neighbor Yoongi was a walking contradiction, and you couldn’t help but to be charmed by him.
You had heard rumors about him, heard people's worries of you moving into the building next to his very popular floral shop, but you didn't pay them any mind. You had yet to meet someone that you couldn't make a friend, and if he was impervious to your charms, he definitely wouldn't be able to deny your best coworker, Taehyung, and his infectious personality.
But despite your attempts, you always seemed to miss him, unable to properly introduce yourself when he bustled by during the morning rush, or when you were cleaning up shop. It didn't stop you from observing, from watching the way he eyed your building, the way he'd upturn his lip at the line forming outside the door at daybreak.
He seemed so easily ruffled, so annoyed but in this endearing way, and you couldn't help but want to get to know him, to see if you could get him to open up.
Especially once he started his attempts at sabotage.
They had been subtle at first - the flyer trick something you wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been for Jin, who made sure to check and replace any torn advertisements at the end of each day. The designs had looked so similar that you didn't even double take until the elder had pointed out the word change, how the name of Yoongi's business adorned the top of the page. Jin's eyes were ablaze, but you had just laughed, instructing him to leave the ones he found alone.
But it made you more curious, further intrigued by your flower selling neighbor who took such lengths to garner business, and you couldn't help but want to see what he did next.
It had been Taehyung that grumbled about some tall dark haired boy ruining all your promotional shots, though he had smirked the whole time he showed you the images you ended up with. You recognized that he was a worker at the florist next door almost immediately, the immaculate arrangement he carried carefully in his hands striking your intuition further.
Finally, Taehyung had shouted at him, and you called the boy over to introduce himself despite his red cheeks and ducking gaze. You learned his name was Jungkook and that he was indeed a coworker and friend of Yoongi’s, and that he was just trying to help, though he wouldn't go into much more detail after that. You had chatted with him briefly, offering him a cookie for his troubles, and promised him that you weren’t mad about his attempts at photobombing.
And you were telling the truth - you really couldn't be annoyed at these attempts to thwart your advertising, instead laughing at each new picture, making sure you picked one where the bouquet was clearly visible behind you as you held an open box of 'coo-quets'.
It isn't hatred, you don't think, that drives your neighbor to do this, but you aren't quite sure where to go from here. He still hadn't introduced himself, and with how busy things were during the festival, you hadn't found the time to do the same either, working long hours to keep afloat with your orders and walk-ins. You wanted to ask him why he was so annoyed with you, what he had against your little bakery, but you told yourself there would be time for that later when the heat died down.
Not to mention, Taehyung had been chomping at the bit for an excuse to go introduce himself.
"Y/N," he whined, dragging the last syllable of your name out into an obnoxious tune. "I just want to go make friends! Why won't you let me?"
"Because someone needs to run the register for these customers, Tae. Jin and I are elbow deep in cookie dough, and Jimin can't run both sides of the counter himself."
The tall man sulks, bottom lip jutting out as his caramel hair flops into his face. "You have a point, I guess. But once the festival is done, I'm going to go introduce myself and invite them over for coffee."
You smile at him then, eyeing him from the corner of your vision as your hands continue to delicately trace colored icing on the cookies in front of you. "That sounds like a deal, Tae."
"Oh! Me too though!" Jimin shouts, turning from the counter to glance into the kitchen of your shop. Normally you'd have the doors to the kitchen closed, but with the day about to start, it made it easier to prop them open while you ran back and forth between the two stations. "I want to go say hi too. They look like really cool guys!"
I'd have to agree, you thought to yourself, picturing the sharp eyed man in your mind, but you stay silent.
To say you were startled when you heard a knock at the back door would be an understatement, even more so when you saw who it was - Yoongi, the pouting florist, blonde hair flopped into his face. He was wearing a fluffy white sweater, a dark green apron tied around his neck and waist, and his sleeves pushed up to his elbows, like he had been prepping for hours - much like you.
With a single look, you shooed the other men out of the kitchen to the front, opening the door to your guest.
"Well hey! You must be Yoongi, I'm-"
"Y/N."
"Oh, I didn't know you knew who I was!" you smile warmly, gesturing for him to step into the kitchen.
"Well, I had seen you move in, of course. Plus, Jungkook hasn't shut up since he met you," he mutters, shaking his hair out of his face as he took several steps inside. "He's like a stray cat, you know. Once you feed him, he's your friend for life."
That made you laugh, a hand rising to cover your mouth, and you couldn’t help the smirk that follows. "Well, he was too cute not to feed. Is that why you're here? Are you another stray who would like to be fed?"
Yoongi’s cheeks flush then, a dusty red that you think would look perfect in the petals of a rose, and you promise yourself to try to recreate it in frosting later.
“Ha, that’s funny,” he clears his throat, hand coming to rub at the back of his neck. “Actually, I was coming to talk to you to see if we could make an arrangement, you know - as one business owner to another.”
“Is that so?” you raise a brow, hands resting at your hips. “And what kind of deal would that be?”
You're surprised at how honest Yoongi is when he explains his situation, lays his hardships bare before you right there in the stuffy heat of your kitchen. He does manage to at least look a little embarrassed when he admits what he did in order to ramp up business, and you can’t stop your heart from softening as he finishes his request, wringing his hands as he looks at you expectantly.
“So, what you’re saying is - you want to work together, make something that the festival goers will love but will help both of our shops - is that right?”
He stands tall then, shoulders rolling back as his gaze pierces through your own. “That’s right. Think of it as a ‘Ill scratch your back if you scratch mine’ type of deal.”
“Is this another cat analogy?”
Yoongi groans, and you giggle at the roll of his eyes.
“I already regret this.”
Stepping closer, you peer up at the florist, watching the way his eyes widen at your proximity. “No, you don’t. And technically I think I’m doing all the scratching here, but that’s okay. I think we could make a good team, Min Yoongi.”
Tumblr media
The event is crowded, more so than Yoongi could have ever imagined.
The tables he and you had placed in front of both buildings were stuffed with goods, the heads of your coworkers ducking back inside each entrance to refill them when they got low. Customers were milling about; some taking in the offerings, others lining up in wait to purchase, and the sheer number of people had Yoongi grinning widely.
It was your idea, of course - to offer up a half dozen flowers with a half dozen of cookies, the perfect set. That isn’t to say Yoongi didn’t help; the concept of decorating the tables and dressing formally to stand out being his own, as well as offering to match the flowers and cookies to each other. The red roses and pair set cookies were flying off the shelves fast, but so were the purple calla lilies and pink tulips, which made him smile.
You had been more enthusiastic with the plan, gladly altering the designs of your ‘coo-quets’ to match, and it was clearly a smash hit. Yoongi thought back to how easily it had been to talk to you, to be honest, to spill his guts - how quickly you were willing to help, how natural it had been to form a plan, to laugh with you, and he felt his heart squeeze painfully in his chest.
Yoongi was thrilled with the sales and popularity, of course, but found himself distracted despite the success. He was happy to see his employees grinning and getting along with your own, glad to see the till fill knowing that he’d be able to pay everyone on time, but more than anything, he was ecstatic to see you smile, to see you shine in the sunset pink summer dress that was brushing the tops of your knees.
He himself had donned some light grey dress pants with a white button down, the sleeves carefully rolled to expose his forearms, jacket long forgotten in the heat of the outdoors. You had beamed at him when he first arrived, nodding approvingly at his attire, and he couldn’t help the pride that swelled in his heart at your approval.
And now as the day wore on, every time his elbow knocked into yours, your bodies stepping and swaying as you worked, Yoongi felt a heat build; a sizzling lick of electricity that was sparking between the two of you that he couldn’t ignore.
“You know,” he leans in, mouth inches from your ear as you grin widely at a customer. “I think we do make a pretty good team, Y/N.”
He relishes in the way your skin warms, in the way he watches your cheeks blush so prettily at his words, and feels hopefulness tighten his chest.
“We do, Min Yoongi, especially now that you aren’t actively trying to ruin me.” You grit between frozen teeth, your smile unwavering until the patron is out of hearing range.
“Hey, I didn’t try to ruin anything-”
“Okay, how about ‘mildly inconvenience’ then?”
Chuckling, he raises an arm to rub at the back of his neck, and you follow the lines in his arm as he does so, watching the rippling of muscles beneath the cuff of his rolled up sleeve with interest.
“I guess that’s fair.”
Tumblr media
It was amazing how well things turned out, how fast the day had blown by. Jin had slaved away in the kitchen making sure that there were enough baked goods for everyone, Jimin and Taehyung teaming up with Jungkook and Hoseok from the florist shop to run items back and forth and greet customers.
But it was Yoongi who had stolen the air from your lungs and any sense you had left rattling in your head.
You could see now why his business had flourished before you arrived, why the customers continued to return to him when they needed their next arrangement. He was such a good and intent listener, his eyes sharp and focused on whomever was speaking to him. Even in the case of the event, where the flowers were pre-arranged, he still listened, shook and held the hand of each buyer as they spoke, fawning over his flowers.
It was evident he was passionate about his business, which made the fact that he had been willing to do whatever it took - including partnering up with you - even more admirable.
The sun was going down by the time things seemed to slow, your hands aching from the intricate icing work and feet throbbing from running around in heels. It seemed that everyone had satisfied smiles of hard work etched on their faces, and pleasant adoration inflated your gut at the sight, especially when you landed on Yoongi.
The edges of his mouth had finally relaxed, his eyes creasing into half moons more and more as he laughed, stress leaving his body. It was a beautiful sight, if you could admit such a thing.
When the final customer waved goodbye, heading down to the main street for the firework finale of the festival, you left the giddy boys out front to begin cleaning, bones aching at the prospect of all the dishes that needed to be done, but not wanting to drag out the pain any longer than necessary.
“Need some help?” Yoongi was posed in the doorway, arm pressing against the jam, one leg crossed over the other, as if it was normal for him to be effortlessly handsome in sweaty bakery kitchens.
“That would be great,” you smirk, tilting your head. “I wash, you dry?”
And so that’s how you find yourself alone with Yoongi, sweat dotting his hairline as he gives you side glances and small talk over drying mixing bowls. You talk about everything and nothing, conversation flowing freely, and you feel drunk on his proximity, on the way he talks with his hands, the way his voice pitches when he laughs. His white button down is transparent in the spots where water had hit, and even the hint of a peak of his skin made you feel a bit dizzy.
“Thank you for helping me with all of this, by the way. It would have taken hours to do by myself.”
“It’s no big deal. Plus, I’m sure one of those guys out there would’ve came back if you batted your lashes,” he leers, nodding to indicate the young men of both businesses that were currently playing around out front. “Especially Jungkook. He’s been all ‘Y/N noona this, Y/N noona that’ ever since he met you.”
Handing him a dish, you look up at him through your lashes, blinking coquettishly. “Well, can you blame him? I mean, just look at me. All this and I can cook? I’m the full package.”
You were joking; a teasing lilt to your voice as you refocused on the task at hand, but you could feel the intensity of his stare heating you thoroughly, forcing you to meet his eyes once more.
“You really are,” he murmurs, voice low but clear, tongue darting out to wet his lips. “You’re funny and talented and so smart that it’s kind of intimidating,” he looks back at the pot in his hand, drying it thoroughly before setting it aside. “But you’re also kind hearted, and willing to listen and help those in need, even when you barely know them.”
He turns then, stepping closer until his breath is fanning across your cheek, his arms caging you to the sink as you turn to face him fully.
“Not to mention, you’re more beautiful than any flower I’ve ever seen.”
Dropping your head to stifle the giggles, you hear him wince loudly.
“That was pretty cheesy, huh?”
Nodding, you meet his eyes once more. “It was, but I have a few baking puns that will make you cringe.”
“Hit me with one.”
Raising on your toes, you lean into him, tentatively placing a palm on his chest. “Is that a baguette in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”
His shoulders start shaking before he lets out a loud laugh, smile widening to show his teeth in a way that made your heart flip. Catching his breath, he sighs, leaning to rest his forehead against yours.
“Hmm, I don’t know. Wanna find out?”
Kissing Min Yoongi was a whirlwind, a focused intensity pressed in a powerful dance of his mouth on yours. Your lips answered in kind effortlessly, needing no prompting to follow his lead, to pull his bottom lip between your teeth. Electricity sparks at the base of your skull with each touch of his pout, each lick of his tongue into your mouth, and you feel your knees threaten to give out as he cradles your jaw in his hand, holding you in place.
You aren’t sure when your hands had tangled in his hair, or when he had lifted you to straddle his waist, but you found yourself moving, his body twisting to place you on the cool metal surface of your work space. Hissing as the chill bit into your bare legs, you seek the warmth of his mouth harder, legs wrapping around his form to tug him closer to you, to grind your center against him.
He’s hard, impossibly hard, and he’s whispering all the things he wants to do to you in the shell of your ear, promising all the things he’ll make you feel with his tongue, his cock. You pull him back to your mouth, kissing him deeper, gasping when he dips his finger in the open icing container on the table, dragging it from the edge of your lips down to your chest.
He trails down your throat, sucking and nipping a marked path to your collarbone, licking the frosting off as he goes -  as if it was the sweetest thing - until he reaches your breasts, cupping them. As you pant out groans of his name, you can’t help but think you’re glad that it’s Yoongi who’s hiking your dress up around your waist, that he is the first man to help you defile your quaint bakery’s kitchen, filling it with moans.
It isn’t until you stumble out just shy of an hour later hand in hand with Yoongi, smelling of sex with mussed hair and lips swollen, that you remember your coworkers - and that little window that shows the spacious floor plan of said kitchen.
Taehyung is shaking his head, tsking quietly with his arm draped around Jungkook. “Shame on you, Y/N. Poor Kookie here was just trying to bring the tables inside to be helpful, and instead he got traumatized.”
Namjoon scoffs then, rolling his eyes. “I didn’t realize ‘getting a boner’ was now considered trauma.”
“Hey!” Jungkook yells, eyes darting between you and Yoongi. “You said you wouldn’t tell!”
Cheeks flushing, you stifle a giggle once more, looking over to the blonde man whose fingers were still intertwined tightly with your own. Instead of embarrassment, or concern, you just feel a giddy flush of joy as you lean into him.
Yoongi sighs, exasperated, free palm rising to rub at the back of his neck. “Remind me again why I don’t fire them?”
“Because you love them. And, they work for cheap.”
Chuckling, he turns towards you, leaning in to press his forehead against yours. “I always knew I liked you.”

“Jesus, what did you eat today? Where did it all come from?!”
If Sakura could, she would have pinched her nose closed, but she needed both hands for the task of bagging up the dog poop while keeping the leash out of it. She didn’t understand why dogs never watched where they were going and tried to keep Akumaru from stepping in his droppings before she could clean up.
Finishing, she tossed the mess in a waste bin they passed before crossing the street.
“That crap was almost as big as your head.” Sakura laughed.
The pair had just come from a small park at the end of the block and were now heading to their intended destination. On the surface, it was just a smart thing to do — letting the dog relieve himself before they needed to go inside. In reality, it was her just procrastinating. And she used every second of it.
However, the growing puppy didn't care much about taking a stroll today. Especially when they approached the towering highrise. This was his other home, and his panting and excitement signaled he knew exactly where they were.
"Ok! Ok! We're going."
Approaching the entrance, Sakura was careful to watch her step while she admired the way the evening sun reflected off the smoked glass and steel. There was a dark, eerie beauty she found in the looming structure before them.
The last time she'd been here, a thin layer of snow had covered all of the asphalt. Frigid temperatures caused the flurries to stick to the ground like falling powder — perfect for making snow angels.
She remembered that the exterior had been decorated with strings of twinkling blue lights as well with poinsettias arranged beneath the windows in a festive holiday display.
Thank goodness the weather was not below freezing as it was prior, months ago. Though, that didn't stop a wave of nerves from washing over her, wondering again how she managed to get herself into another weird situation.
 Oh, yeah... that's right.
 It started with a favor.
It always started with a favor.
Because she had a difficult time saying no and was consistently willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Which is why she was opening the glass doors to walk through the vestibule, speaking to the concierge in the lobby to give her name.
Well, it was much too late to change her mind and Sakura sighed, releasing Akamaru from her arms after the elevator doors closed. Making a steady ascent to the top floor, she mulled over the reasons she was there in the first place.
Sasuke had asked if she could return the dog to Kiba's family.
He'd never met any of them, and correctly presumed she would know how to reach someone. It wasn’t much of a stretch. She and Kiba had been friends since freshman year in high-school.
Sakura conceded to do his bidding, but followed up with some questions of her own — like, why was he watching over the dog to begin with?
Despite being guarded, Sasuke answered all of her questions. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling things were being left unsaid.
What quickly followed however, were thoughts of the canine’s owner. And soon she felt the dormant bud of concern blooming within her, once again.
   Kiba .
Gently nudging away the worry she'd felt, Sakura went along with it. Especially after Sasuke revealed that it was against his lease to have a dog — up until now he'd been taking a risk.
Feeling a little sorry that he’d been keeping him, she agreed to return the pup. Which is how she'd ended up here.
The elevator came to a smooth stop at its designated floor, the thick doors sliding open. Akamaru pulled her down the hall, towards the other home he knew by scent and memory.
Sakura only knew they were at the correct place because of the ' PH3 ' plaque beside the red door.
Reaching out, she pulled down on the lever-like knob, entering once a voice beckoned her inside.
 "Hello?"
She unhooked the leash from the studded collar just to watch the ball of fur run deeper into the suite, his tiny paws gaining traction against the mahogany planks of wood. Following seconds later, she rounded the corner to catch sight of a figure standing near an alcove.
Sakura looked on as Akamaru whined near the person's feet, pawing at their immaculately pressed pants. He then proceeded to roll onto his back, completely exposing his belly.
Sakura brought her eyes up to greet a woman whose tips of brown hair curled around her sharp jaw. Defined lips were painted a deep violet with a peremptory tone to match. Her voice was smooth and rich, whisking past her ears.
 "Sakura."
Tsume Inuzuka stood as statuesque as royalty. Her commanding aura matched the intensity in her swirling, chocolate brown eyes. The attitude alone was worthy of any crown, but she was far too brutish for something as dainty as a tiara. Her brassknuckles nature had served her well in business...
And, maybe in her personal life as well?
The matriarch was already married to husband number three if she remembered correctly. Despite being rather intimidating, there was another side to her... a more gentle side. Something that was softer around the edges and reserved only for a select few.
Sakura hoped she could tap into that side now. Maybe it would help, especially when a certain topic was brought up.
 "It's been a while, hasn't it?"
Reaching down, the brunette picked up the squirming pooch to move him under her arm, briefly inspecting his form with a keen eye.
"Hello, Mrs. Inuzuka...Er! I mean, ' Shimazu ' now... isn't it?" Sakura ran a hand across her neck, smiling to cover the wince she so desperately tried to hide.
"Tsume is fine. Come here, let me get a good look at you. You've finally got some meat on those bones, I see."
Almond-shaped nails dipped in black lifted the young girl's chin, fingers tilting her face and Sakura felt a blush warming her cheeks under the scrutiny.
"Ah... yes, it has been a while. Thank you for meeting with me on such short notice."
The dark-haired woman moved to sit on a loveseat, reaching for her glass of wine.
"Lucky it's not the weekend, or I would have been in California by now," she asserted, swirling the Merlot around in the wine glass.
Sakura politely declined the offer to join her with a glass of her own. She did accept a seat, however, sitting across from the older woman as she continued.
"I thought he would've lasted a lot longer before dumping his responsibilities on someone else. Speaking of which..."
Tsume raised her eyes to meet Sakura's, the tips of her nails clicking against the glass before she pressed on.
"You mentioned that you haven't heard from that son of mine. He's decided to stop responding to me too, which has been very irritating."
The layered ends of Sakura's high ponytail swung across the top of her shoulders as she shook her head. Her bangs rested partially in her face but their eyes remained locked as she confirmed what she’d said earlier over the phone.
 "No, I have not."
The hand that was twirling the glass stopped, digits gripping the stem while the ambrosia settled within.
Shadows from the lowering sun tilted across the walls signaling the oncoming sunset. Quiet and sobering — as something stirred in the air and the mood changed.
Sakura sat immobile and tried not to fidget under the weight.
The tension was broken when Tsume released a hum, cutting off eye contact to look down. Reaching over, she grabbed a piece of prosciutto arranged on a platter from the coffee table.
Sakura slowly released the breath she had no idea she was holding until then.
Hesitating, she felt the need to tread lightly but knew it was necessary to shed some light on the situation. Be that as it may, it didn't look like she was going to be discovering anything new with the way things were going.
"That's actually why I wanted to speak with you. He hasn't responded to my messages either. At first, I wasn't worried, because of... well-."
Kiba's history of disappearing was left unspoken, but Tsume grunted in understanding, taking a long sip from her glass.
His mother was instantly reminded of his past rebellious acts. Although there usually would be some sort of... warning that preceded any dark turn.
Her remarrying or becoming bi-coastal were just a few examples. She could remember the fights and fallouts that followed. Especially regarding his choice of outlets.
The reckless behavior, the unsavory habits, the disagreements... she remembered them all.
 But...
Tsume thought they'd long moved past that. He seemed to finally settle down... as much as someone like him could. He'd been taking care of his apartment, had stayed out of jail-
As far as she knew ...
-and out of most forms of trouble for quite some time now. It was hard to recall the last time she'd received a phone call that ended with screams, threats, or sour disappointment. She'd hate to think he'd regressed.
"Is there anyone he's been hanging around? A new group of friends, maybe? Other than Ino and yourself—"
Tsume was in the dark to whom he was associating with these days. "...he rarely tells me anything and I can barely keep up with him."
Sakura was not the type to be dishonest but she found herself in an uncomfortable position. Choosing her words carefully and hoping her deception wouldn't come back to bite her in the ass, she gave what she thought would be just enough.
"No one I've talked to has seen or heard from him either. I'm sorry."
She was here to get as much information as she could, without giving too much away.
 All because...
Sasuke had also asked that she keep his name out of everything. As far as Kiba's folks were concerned, he didn't exist. And he'd like to keep it that way.
He had his reasonings; he’d murmured some explanation and Sakura relented because it made sense at the time. Maybe not giving names was the safest route.
But now that she was here, it was uncomfortable as hell, and her stomach felt like bats were fluttering away in it. The calm expression she presented on the surface, however, was flawless.
Moments ticked, ticked, ticked away... before Tsume finally waved her fingers dismissively. She'd heard everything she needed to hear. Crossing one leg over the other, the perfect cuff in her pants rested against her heel.
"No matter. Someone is already looking into it. If that boy thinks he can get away with ignoring me, he has another thing coming. I'm just wondering what foreign jail cell or backwater whore house I'll need to rescue him from this time ," she sneered, gulping down the last of her wine.
Sakura adjusted slightly, not saying a word but giving her a small nod. But her fingers curled into fists hidden within her pockets, the rings she wore digging into her skin.
It's not like she wanted him to be caught behind bars. Or needing to be dragged to a health clinic the next day, for thorough testing.
 It's just...
At least he would be found, and all this fuss would have been all over nothing. But until that happened...
Sakura gave Tsume a small smile, hoping to ease away any concern this conversation may have brought.
Hidden away on the inside, she wished someone was there for her right now — who could return the favor. Someone who would gift her the same comfort she'd just offered Tsume to maybe put her mind at ease. Because even after speaking with his mother and listening to her confident answer...
Sakura could not shake the feeling that just wouldn't go away.
 Something was amiss.
But she hoped that she was off track... and just being paranoid. And that his mother was right.
This was just one of those... 'Kiba times'.
It's exactly what a large part of her was wishing for... and what she needed to believe.
    ✧・゚* : *゚・✧
 He hated that damn bow.
Sure... on its own, it was harmless.
That was all an illusion, though. Being an inanimate object did not stop it from being a vexation.
And just how could something so insignificant, be so... troublesome? After all, it was merely a decorative accessory, attached to a pair of heels. Looking so innocent, affixed to the leather band caging her slender ankle.
 But looks could be deceiving.
It became problematic when his eyes traveled north. And for the life of him, Sasuke couldn't fathom how a few inches on a shoe could be so devastating. The manner in which they elongated her legs as his focus strayed upward. Following an invisible path along smooth, pale skin.
Limbs that seemed to go on and on for days — filling out to thighs that were soon hidden from view beneath sparkle.
The dress she wore did nothing but accentuate her curves; dips and valleys that filled out an enticing figure.
Sakura's slender neck supported her head as it cocked to the side, smiling at whatever some teen girl in front of her said. And her green eyes crinkled in mirth as she let out a laugh, bringing the clear plastic cup to her lips for a drink.
Speculating if she always smiled that brightly for everyone.
Sasuke tore his gaze away, eyes landing on the DJ booth in the corner — the LED lights around the display throbbed to the beat of the track, playing across the speakers.
Like hell he’d be caught staring.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t just spent... what? The last two hours together? Getting everything ready for the party. He'd seen her then...
 Same outfit…
 Same smile…
  Same god damn heels.
So what had changed? Could he not keep himself from finding her?
His eyes constantly tracking her, flickering to trace her migration around the open space.
Even when he caught himself it wasn't enough to stop the cycle from repeating. His eyes would be lowered, idly scanning the party, not focused on anything in particular.
 Then...
A flash of sequins before his eyes would settle on that little black bow.
Wasn't that the textbook definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?
Sasuke's mind didn't pass along that bit of information to the rest of his body. Instead, his eyes would start the trek all over again, his avaricious gaze taking her in before cutting away.
Seeking out a distraction, he leaned against the expansive window behind him.
The tempered glass usually flooded the suite with natural light during the day. Now, it hummed against his back, miniature vibrations warbling along the surface from the tracks deep base.  And it felt cool against him as he sighed.
Taking another swing of beer, Sasuke hoped the warm sensation he felt didn't spread to his face. But at least he could make it appear the fault of alcohol and not the salacious thoughts starting to run rampant in his mind.
 Like...
If the rest of her was as soft as the skin on her inner wrist was. The pad of his thumb had brushed against it when he had passed something to her earlier. And watching now, at the exposed skin her dress didn’t cover...
Damn him if it certainly didn't look the part. He would only need a few seconds to graze his hands across the perceived silkiness to know the answer.
Lowering the amber bottle, he swallowed thickly, sighing after. A quick look at his watch had him quickly releasing another one, wondering again why he was still there. Glancing over his shoulder at the snow-covered streets below, a minute passed — before a prickling behind his ear caught his attention.
 He was being watched.
Everything around them started to fade away when his eyes suddenly met hers. Twinkling stars locked onto his own, piercing through the smoky haze around them, her focus solely on him. And suddenly, Sasuke's mouth was no longer satisfied with the bitter taste of alcohol.
 No...
He was craving something else entirely.
 And as he moved closer—
   .
  His vision completely went white.
  .
And like coming up for air after treading murky waters, he broke through the surface and was brought back to the present… somewhat painfully .
Surely, the sound of flesh meeting leather must have been heard during the impact. But his brain only registered the sound after as it echoed in his mind.
 Then there was the ringing.
 Lots and lots of ringing.
 .
  Ka-KLUMP-PAK!
  whoooo-sh...
  THUD.
 .
 ...
 "........... -ke? "
He could have sworn that the saying went: you were supposed to see stars.
 Not feel them.
' Oh shit that hurt .'
"...... -uke ? Sasuke ?! Are you alright?"
 ' Fucking stars. '
 "Sasuke...?"
And fuck him and his own negligence for not seeing that coming.
The ringing in his left ear dimmed low enough that he was finally able to hear the question. Blinking back the few spots that danced behind his eyelids, Sasuke grunted, pushing away the hands waving in front of his face. When there were no longer four eyes blinking down at him, he rose to sit up.
The boxing gloves that had been strapped to Itachi's hands were now lying between them, his profile relaxing though remaining in its hunched form.
"You were supposed to dodge the second hook. I pulled back but it was too late." He fussed over him again, but Sasuke batted away the concern, sitting up fully when the ringing in his ear finally disappeared.
He felt a trail of moisture slide down his temple but breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that it was only sweat. He still counted his blessings though, thankful it wasn't his brother's leg that flew at him instead. If it was, his head would have been knocked clean from his shoulders.
Sasuke removed the padded mitts he wore, tearing at the velcro with his perfect white teeth — more embarrassed than hurt. His brother had dangerously quick hands, and he should have known better than to allow his mind to wander when they were in the middle of sparring.
"Where were you?" the elder asked, mirroring his unspoken thoughts while moving away to grab them water from the kitchen.
'So he's going to call me out after all...'
Sasuke huffed, choosing to stay seated on the mat below the hanging punching bag. He slowly worked his jaw open and closed a few times, rotating the Temporomandibular Joint.
 Good... nothing was broken.
"Nowhere." Sasuke deadpanned, feeling along the curve for swelling.
Itachi raised a brow at him as he passed him the chilled bottle. Knowing where further questioning would lead to, he pivoted to another topic.
"I see your temporary house guest is no longer here..."
Taking a much-needed sip, Sasuke began to explain what had transpired. Of how he had gotten Sakura to facilitate Akamaru’s return, along with agreeing to a few terms.
Terms that were presented more as a... suggestion, of course. Maybe gather a little information while she was there if she could?
He took full advantage of her gentle disposition, to coax her a little. Anything to help seal the deal.
And when it was all said and done, they parted ways with an agreement in place.
Sasuke didn't realize the amount of silence that stretched between them until he looked up, catching his brother’s stare. Keen orbs continued to study him, inky depths watching...
Causing his own brows to snap together.
 "What?"
 "........"
The corner of his brother's mouth twitched, deep lines appearing across his face before smoothing again.
 " What? "
Sasuke didn't want to repeat himself, but the silence had struck a nerve. It brought back memories of when they were younger and how he felt whenever he was overlooked, ignored, or even excluded from certain things.
Being an adult now, he could understand why things were handled the way they were and he harbored no resentment. However, that didn't stop the feelings from returning every now and again and bringing him back to the times when he used to be shooed away.
Itachi never bothered to take the time to explain anything, because Sasuke was too young at the time. No one around had felt the need to, back then.
And then there were the other occurrences, where he'd be left with nothing more than a whisper of— "Next time, Sasuke."
As fleeting as it came, the memories all disappeared when Itachi finally caved.
Learning lessons from the past, Itachi saw no reason to get Sasuke unnecessarily riled up.
 "Nothing."
It would have been convincing, too... if they hadn't known each other so well.
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Sasuke leaned back on his elbows, his damp shirt stretching across his torso. He dragged his water bottle with him as a fresh breeze stirred across the loft from an open window.
"Just spit it out already. You can either say it now and get it over with. Or later..." His nose twisted as if he was going to sneeze.
"...no doubt in some cryptic way. Do us both a favor and spare me the hassle," Sasuke ended boldly, taking another swig and draining the bottle below the halfway mark.
It took some time, but pointing out the obvious had its desired effect and Itachi finally asked what had been on his mind.
What came was an inquiry about the woman — whose name, he'd noticed; was always spoken with a certain... tone .
Was there something going on that he should know about?
And since Itachi had avoided using a condescending tone when asking the question, the prodding managed to disarm him.
"Nothing..." Sasuke answered; slate-colored eyes drifting as his brother moved to sit near him. Breaking eye contact, a few of his fingers pressed into the padded mat underneath them.
 "... at least, not yet?"
He always did find it difficult to keep things from his brother.
Itachi could have easily sprained his wrist while sitting; his weight careening with a jolt at the quiet admission. He recovered well enough, sitting down fully and eyeing his younger brother with veiled surprise.
And for a while, the only sound in the room came from the jingling chains holding up the punching bag, as it drifted in small circles near them.
Sasuke finally gathered the courage to glance up, but his brother's eyes were peering outside, deep in thought.
The sunlight kissed Itachi's low ponytail, gathered across one shoulder and his umber touched gaze looked far away.
The question surprised him when his lips suddenly moved.
 "You like this girl, Sasuke?"
He wasn't sure why, but he flinched.
What was he supposed to say, Sasuke thought as his teeth pinched the inside of his bottom lip. The tip of his tongue could almost feel the impression left by Sakura's teeth from their last kiss. The ghost of the intimate touch came to mind at the most inopportune time.
Did they really have to get into this when he still couldn't find the right words to describe what was happening between him and Sakura? It was all just one big ball of complication as far as Sasuke was concerned.
An intricate web, twisting with many threads of complexity...
With the label of 'friends ,' not quite fitting...
And it was far too soon to be thinking about ‘love’ ...
But 'just fucking' was too crude, and there was an interest there beyond the physical — as nice as that was.
A string of fate that seemed to constantly pluck at his attention whenever she was near, while driving him to distraction when she wasn't.
And it was comical and annoying at the same damn time. And, well...
Ah fuck , he'd asked for this, didn't he? Him and his big mouth.
"I-..." Sasuke hesitated, blinking in contemplation before trying again. "What I mean is-"
Long fingers wrapped in protective white tape lifted. Two digits extended to brush against Sasuke's forehead, effectively cutting him off.
"I just want you to be mindful." A sharp gaze fixated onto his own, and even though he took a breath to respond — his brother's gentle smile gave him pause.
"I also want you to be happy," he continued, lips curving into a knowing grin.
Rising from the mat with a stretch, Itachi made his way down the hall towards the bathroom, leaving his younger sibling alone with his thoughts. He also ignored the small frown zeroing in on his retreating back.
Sasuke slowly shook his head, following the figure of his brother until he disappeared around the corner.
Whatever surprise that lingered was quickly overshadowed with something else as he gulped down another drink of water.
An unexpected flare of delight engulfed him as he slowly returned his brother's grin...
And there was only the empty room left to witness the handsome sight of Sasuke's dimple — a rare, but genuine smile pursing his lips at the unclouded approval he'd just received.

"Is that the last of it? What about that other set in the back?" one mover asked the other as they stood near the rear of the box truck.
"The dresser with the mirror? Nah, that's going to a couple in Bethesda. That's our next stop. Here, take this when you go up and drop that off. She already tipped us... just get them to sign," the driver told him, closing the rolling door when he jumped down from the back of the vehicle.
The clipboard was placed on top of the sealed, brown box the taller mover was already carrying in his arms.
Making sure it was perfectly balanced in his hands, he turned to go up the freight elevator... making one last and final trip.
The front doors to the newly leased space were still propped open, and he placed the box down, just inside the sizable foyer.
"This is the last one," he called out, his russet eyes scanning the invoice, looking for the client’s name. "We just need an autograph from Ms.-... ah-."
 "I'll do it!"
There was a conscious effort not to look down at the exposed legs of the young blonde as she came bounding towards him, hips swaying in a pair of forest green cotton shorts.
He also did his best not to stare at the: 'I love cock' written in graffiti font on her shirt — and the word 'tails' stamped right below it in smaller print.
Though slightly crude, the tongue-in-cheek message had made him chuckle most of the afternoon while he was working.
Ino smiled brightly, nibbling on the capped pen while her eyes took their time to locate the signature line.
Tugging on the brim of his hat, the helper began to calculate his chance of success in scoring her number. And in turn go completely against company policy.
His opportunity to risk it all was interrupted when the owner of the suite appeared from around a corner.
Sakura shooed the golden femme away, signing the papers instead. She thrust the paperwork back in his hands after thanking him.
Mouthing a quick 'sorry,' Sakura apologized for the actions of her all-too-flirtatious friend.
The company had done an amazing job and had earned the positive review she'd leave.
Ino twirled away to retrieve a stash — hidden earlier on the built-in shelf, snagging a lighter as well. Turning, she climbed over the back of the sofa.
The hand holding the bright red plastic waved in their general direction.
"We really can't thank you enough. Did you guys have to train to be so amazing?" Ino climbed down with a purr and a wink, still flirting as she settled on the floor.
Sakura let out a nervous giggle, ushering the smitten guy out the front doors.
"Is there anyone who is spared from your relentless-... philandering ?" She huffed, unlatching the mechanism holding both doors open, closing them tightly.
Really, her friend could be so embarrassing sometimes.
"What can I say? I love a man in uniform. Besides, I left them alone for most of the afternoon… you should be thanking me." Ino twisted the grinder in her hands, her spine resting against the front of the large sectional.
Sakura slowly came over to stretch out behind her, laying down on her stomach. Sinking into the cushions, she felt the tension slowly release from her overworked muscles.
Despite any possible... sexual harassment lawsuits, she was glad her bestie was there lending a helping hand. Moving was always a grueling task, so any help was appreciated. She'd even done some manual labor when she helped Sakura paint a room back at her old apartment.
Leaving the place in immaculate condition scored her most of the security deposit back. Her comrade teased that it was unfair and that the only reason she did was that the place was barely lived in.
"I'm just glad it's all done." Sakura mumbled from her sprawled position, her sweat pants resting dangerously low on her hips. They were already rolled down twice at the waist, and now a bit of blue cotton peeked from underneath.
Ino paused, oceanic eyes spanning the layout. One eyebrow pinched inward after taking in the bare dwelling.
"I wouldn't exactly call this... 'done,' Forehead. You have your bed and this monstrous couch. Other than that, you really need to get this place decorated."
  'Let the nit-picking begin.'
"Yeah, yeah..." Sakura mumbled around a throw pillow, her face still buried in softness. "I'll order a bunch of stuff later."
There were three different flavors of frozen yogurt chilling in the freezer. And her books and medical journals were unpacked and stored away. As far as she was concerned, everything else could wait.
Ino wasn't convinced but instead concentrated on rolling the canappa before her, grunting at the stickiness.
They still had to officially 'bless the house,' after all.
Sakura turned towards her, raising a hand to cradle her head, cheeks still pink from burrowing into the pillow. It was only when she was spaced out that a particular thought drifted back to the forefront of her mind.
And with all the bustle from today, there hadn't been a quiet moment up until now, to bring it up.
"Did that guy ever call back again?"
As it turned out, Tsume wasn't kidding when she said someone was looking into Kiba's disappearance.
A private investigator reached out to her, asking a series of questions. Sakura told him exactly what she'd already shared, her story and timelines never changing. Not that there was much to tell.
Afterward, she'd given her best friend a heads up, instincts warning that she'd be next.
Much later he did get ahold of Ino, though, she had very little to say. Her answers were similar to Sakura's, as they'd both lost contact with Kiba around the same time.
And she made it clear that she didn't know anything beyond that.
Licking her lips, Ino brought a knee up to her chest, her sock covered foot dragging across the throw rug while she remained mindful of the low table in front of her.
 "After the first time? No."
She then extended her tongue to wet the ends of paper as she expertly rolled the joint. Humming in affirmation, she eyed her handy work.
"He was a pushy bastard though. When you talked to him, did you tell him anything? Maybe let something slip you shouldn't have?"
 Sakura sat up in surprise.
"What? No..." She shook her head although the blonde was still facing forward, away from her.
An eerie feeling ricocheted in her tummy.
 "D-... did you?"
Ino snorted, flicking bits of grass from her nail bed. "I should have," she murmured.
 "Ino!"
She was just being a bitch, but it's what she did when she felt annoyed... agitated .
"To be honest, I'm not getting a good feeling about any of it. Not to mention... a P.I. coming around? Asking questions? This is getting to be a bit much."
 What's next?
 The police?
It was not a good look to have a bunch of authorities hanging about, despite the reason for their presence.
"I know..." Sakura began, the cushions shifting under her movements.  "I don't like any of this either... but even Sasuke-"
The blonde spun around so fast she feared whiplash. Sparks of contention lit the glare Ino threw her way.
 "We don't know him, Sakura!"
When she yelled, it surprised them both, their eyes wide and staring. It hadn’t been on purpose. Of course it hadn’t been, and Ino couldn't remember the last time she'd been so quick to snap.
So, after taking a much-needed breath, the apology floated in the air between them.
But not for what she said .
 No...
 She'd meant that.
But… for the way she said it? Maybe she was a bit too harsh. She regretted it the moment it left her lips, so she made another attempt to apologize, keeping her voice even and much calmer.
"We don't know him. Now, I'm not saying he's a bad guy or anything, but he's Kiba's friend..." Ino stressed, "not ours . I think he's cool and all, but we need to think with our heads here, and not with..."
Her eyes lowered to Sakura's lap, hearing the sharp intake of breath when the seated girl immediately stiffened with indignation.
"I'm not!" Sakura tried to defend herself. And if her leg wasn't twisted beneath her body she would have snapped her legs shut.
  'Guilty, much?'
"Then we need to think smart. I don’t know about you, but I can't be seen mixed up with anything shady. Having some private eye sniffing around is a no-go for me."
Ino turned back to the low table in front of her, her thumb rolling over the spark wheel twice, before the lighter flickered to life.
Sakura sighed, shoulders dropping as she just let it go. She looked instead to the beautiful vase of flowers sitting close by.
The arrangement of orange roses, honeysuckle — and a few other things she couldn't name were sorted together.
It was a beautiful house warming gift from Ino, and she appreciated the floral scent as it drifted through the air. But she knew even its sweet smell wouldn't stand a chance against the thick haze that was sure to come.
Sakura rolled to her feet, moving around her friend to approach the veranda door to crack it open. Nudging it slightly, she felt the crisp breeze charming its way past the small opening and into the room.
Ino continued her musings on an exhale, swirls of grey, blueish smoke wafting towards the darkened recessed lighting above.
"Sasuke was right about one thing, though..."
She stood up, approaching her friend from behind and passing along the lit herb. "We should stay out of it. Besides, someone is looking for him... his family has it covered."
Darting off to find an ashtray, she left the pink-haired woman to lean against the glass with her private thoughts, gazing at the skyline beyond the metal railings of her patio.
Taking a long drag, Sakura hoped the calming effects would kick in soon and burn away her lingering restlessness.
Everyone, it seemed, was just shying the Kiba issue away or even brushing it all aside. And it made her feel so damn torn inside.
Reaching around, she patted herself down, feeling around for her phone.
Oh, she knew what was going to happen... but she went for it anyway.
There wasn't a choice, was there? Besides, she was nothing if not steadfast.
And while fully aware of what was going to happen once she pressed 'SEND', Sakura didn't hesitate.
Her rather nimble fingers typed away, making another attempt to at least... try to do something.
 .
  Message:
Just let me know you're ok...
  Please?
 .
Sakura's hand reached up to remove the joint from her lips, holding her breath with a deep inhale as she re-read the note again.
Sending out the text, she slowly blew out a trail of smoke.
A familiar notification sound cackled in the air as the last cloud left her peach-stained lips. And her eyes caught sight of what showed up on the screen.
 The message was undeliverable.
Just like the previous dozen she'd sent before that.
Some of the messages she sent were laced with concern, others spewing threats of sterilization. She quickly discovered that anything sent out was shortly returned after bouncing through mobile data and Wifi signals.
All of her messages went unanswered.
But whatever disappointment or irritation she felt was quickly tempered down as conflict echoed in her mind.
   "'...-e.'"
Because wasn't this the same thing she'd done in the past? Completely ghosting everyone close to her?
Absconding without a care in the world, regardless of who it might hurt, or what it could affect?
Sakura had exhibited the same pattern of behavior herself a while ago. And at her worst, she had gone days without responding, keeping her distance.
   "'...-ite.'"
The memories surfaced like the smoke drifting past her face as she took another hit, contemplating just how much it sucked... being on the other side now.
   "'...-rite.'"
Ino returned, handing Sakura the found ashtray while quickly plucking the weed from her aloof grip. Humming a tune, she went over to go see about playing some music.
But Sakura stayed put, unable to shake the word that haunted her mind.
One that felt weighted like the heavy crystal she held in her grasp. Looking down, she caught the way a few rainbows appeared with every deviation of the ashtray, and every time a flash of color reflected she imagined a voice whispering in cool, mocking tones inside of her head.
"'...-crite.'"
Taunting all the emotions echoing through her, even as she accepted the bitter truth in the word, repeating over and over again...
    "'Hypocrite.'"

" The sky is clear and you can see for miles across the grasslands. But as easy as she could look beyond the Serengeti, she could just as easily be spotted.
Shoulders hunched low, the lioness hugs her body close to the ground. Blending in among the straw-colored grass... she inches her way closer. She must eliminate as much distance between her and the intended prey before launching her attack. Her sisters are in tune with her, circling the herd on either side, bellies low to the ground as they stalk closer.
The pack has not eaten for days, and this may be their last chance before the grazing animals migrate north and out of their territory. There are plenty of mouths to feed back at the den and a few hungry cubs who will not survive the rest of the season without a steady supply of food."
The prone figure nibbled on the last of his fish cake sandwich, his heavy boots hanging off the edge of the loveseat. His large frame laid sideways on the furniture, leaning against the armrest as he watched the clip on his screen.
He always was a fan of a good old-fashioned hunt. There were just some things in life, that only Mother Nature could do with such... finesse .
You could learn a lot if you sat back and watched her work.
"The wildebeests were on alert, taking turns to raise their heads to keep on the lookout."
He listened to the thick, South African accent as it narrated the encounter playing on the phone. The screen zoomed in as long blades of grass hung from the wildebeests’ chewing mouths while they kept an eye on the young calves. Soon, the camera panned out to show how close the hunters had gotten.
"It is far too late to be overly cautious now. The lioness and her sisters were in striking range and had only to pick their target.
Digging their long claws into the heated dirt below, they sprint across the plain.
  The chase was on..."
His phone suddenly chirped, and a notification for a new message appeared at the top.
The man’s narrowing squint flickered up but quickly went back to the action.
The screen flashed to the pounding of hooves kicking up clouds of dry dirt. And he focused, excited to watch what happened next.
"The ground vibrates as the herd stampede away, now catching sight of the fawn and black death machines barreling towards them. The chaos is enough for one to lose its footing, one back leg twisting beneath its lumbering body."
The front hooves clambered against the ground while the frightened animal tried to gain leverage, but it was too late.
"The seasoned lioness is there in a blink, ready to capitalize on the last mistake the prey would ever make in its life."
Slow-motion captured the way the lioness’s claws hooked into the large antelope, trying to gain purchase as her jaws opened wide across the prey’s neck.
The beast finally got to all four hooves just in time to feel the weight of another lioness as she bit at its spine, her body hanging from its rear.
Losing strength and blood, the scared animal let out a long moan as the lions worked together to bring it down. A third lioness bit at its heels and soon the pressure was enough. A billow of dirt rose in the air as all of their combined weight crashed to the dusty, hot earth below.
The narrator's voice decreased in volume once again, as another message notification came through — the rhythmic beeping much louder than the nature video, still playing on the screen in full-screen mode.
Sighing, the man sat up straighter, swinging his legs to the floor to check.

And the documentary special was starting to get to the good parts too. Locking the screen, he stood tall in a stretch, straightening the henley shirt he wore and trudged to the adjoining room.
The small apartment was oftentimes used as a temporary working space. Although rarely used for the more... messy parts of their job, it was quite convenient for quick meetups. And with the newest development, it made for a well suited temporary office.
Located just behind a deli, but with a hidden entrance and secured parking, it had only made the best sense to set up shop here, for now.
The next room was much darker with the blinds drawn the way they were, but multiple computer monitors glared with artificial light as the man came to stand behind the seated teen. A pretty penny had gone into the elaborate setup — more than a few parts couldn’t be bought in just any store.
There were a few programs open that he was familiar with while scanning the screens, but most he was not.
And as intelligent as the man thought himself to be, he would never presume to understand what any of the letter and number combinations meant, trailing across the monitor on the left.
"Looks like you are up and running. What's the status?"
"I think I've found a way in," Chef replied, his eyes never leaving the screens as he typed away. His favorite song had just begun to play in his ear, and he was seconds away from turning it up before the guy showed up behind him.
" Think ?" The man's arms folded and his lips melted into a frown.
"Yeah. What? I can't go back and get in the same way I did before, my dude. They've already patched that shit. I also don't want to set off any alarms. Gotta be sneaky," Chef offered in a huff.
Besides, he'd already tried the old route and got locked out. But when inside before, he had discovered some other cracks — and hoped to take advantage of one of them now.
 "But you can do it?"
 "Yeah. I can do it."
The teen went back to work when he felt the figure move away, turning up the volume to catch the tail end of his song. This was exactly why he never took up private offers before. But... the money should be worth having to deal with someone breathing down his neck, in the end.
The man turned away, sheathing the hidden knife back into its pouch in silence, leaving the room just as quietly as he entered. Hopefully, the teens’ confidence would produce some good results... and soon.
A real shame too, that he didn't know...
His very life depended on it.
   ✧・゚* : *゚・✧
He was counting stacks of collected funds in his living room when one of his phones went off.
With their associate still missing, Itachi gave Sasuke the task of fulfilling a few orders and handling some assignments. He'd been on the run for the last few days, completing  transactions that were left to be done in Kiba's absence. Just because he was missing didn't mean the business stopped and even grunt work needed to be seen to.
He'd used the opportunity to do a little digging on said person's disappearance, but not finding satisfactory answers left him feeling a little perturbed.
He had been in a sour mood as of late and could think of nothing that might turn things around.
So seeing her initials flash across his chirping phone's screen was bittersweet — he couldn’t tell whether Sakura calling him at this very moment was a good thing or not.
There hadn't been a chance for him to reach out to her. Though, no matter how busy he was, he knew he should have found the time.
And maybe a part of him was feeling guilty for only texting a few things in the last few days...
But she had his number too, damnit. He had made sure of it when he physically saved it on her phone the last time they were together.
It was a personal number that not too many people had access to, at that.
She could have easily called sooner too, but that was neither here nor there.
Maybe her voice would be the ray of sunshine needed in the otherwise shithole-pit-of-darkness his mood had been sinking into.
 "Hello?"
Sasuke's voice was unhurried and a little scratchy — coming out husky after not being used for the last two hours since he'd gotten home and showered. He thought he might be coming down with something and made a mental note to drink some hot tea later.
In the future, Sakura will share with him just how much his voice alone could make her feel sometimes — even when heard over the phone. No way she could tell him that right now, though. There was too much power in that bit of information and she resisted the urge to clear her own throat, hoping the whimsical flutters would go away soon.
 " Sasuke... "
Maybe one day — around the same time, Sasuke would finally admit how fond he was of hearing her say his name, regardless of its nature or the mood.
Nonetheless, an eyebrow hitched as he wrapped a thick wad of bills with a beige rubber band.
"What? Did you misdial or something...?"
If the answer was yes he wasn't sure he could handle it — not with how this week was going.
But she said no, and he could just see the smile on her face when she released a small laugh.  He imagined the soft, cupids bow he could still remember the feel of... if he tried.
Maybe it was a good thing she called, after all. Even after a bit of chatter, he could already feel some of the day's tension releasing from his moody form.
" Actually, the reason I'm calling was... "
   Why haven't you called?
Why haven't you taken me out on a proper date yet?
Already he could hear that — and the other half-dozen questions, all in his mind before she finished.
He could almost feel his answers forming, and hoped they wouldn't sound like excuses when he said them out loud. Because... damnit, he'd been meaning to see a bit more of her. But with everything going on-
" -I... well, actually, Kankurō wanted to know if you were coming to his birthday party? He said you already received his invitation. And his order, which — by the way, I won't even ask what's on that list ."
She trailed off but picked back up with a giggle.
" Anyway, he wanted to make sure you didn't forget, and were going to be there. "
   Wait.
    What?
Having the question ring inside of his mind was not enough, and his mouth opened to express the dumbfounded stutter his brain felt.
 "What?"
She'd called him only... for that ?
It's all anyone was talking about, she said; oblivious with his disappointment. Sasuke listened as his hands slowed down to a full stop, trying to keep the frown at bay.
After the last few — irritating days he's had...
That's the reason they were finally speaking?
  Kankurō ?
Maybe talking when he was in low spirits wasn't the best idea after all. Something in his clipped tone must have given him away because after a bit of silence she hesitantly asked.
" Is everything ok? You sound a bit... distracted? "
 "Yes."
  'No.'
Bloody hell, that's not what he'd meant. No... it is what he meant, but he didn't mean to say it like that-
 "Just finishing up something."
 " Oh ..."
  'Fuck.'
Things were quickly spinning out of control and he needed to figure out a way to salvage it.
Or just end it... before he said something completely Sasuke like, and ruined it for everybody.
"Oh... well, it sounds like this is a bad time. I'm sorry-"
 "Don't be-"
  ' Gentle ... you idiot, nicer!? '
"-I mean, it's fine." Sasuke continued after the slight pause.
Ok, so that wasn't much better and he winced when a rubber band popped, stinging his hand before reaching for another one.
Sakura waited a beat but wasn't convinced. " Ok... well, I guess I'll see you there? Sorry to disturb you."
Sasuke fumbled with the phone for a second yet wasn't quick enough to stop her from ending the call, and he sat there after feeling like he just dropped the ball in a major way.
He groaned, dropping everything in his hands and grabbing at his locks while sinking further into the sofa. It was no use trying to text her back because even he knew when to cut his losses.
At least no one was there to witness the embarrassment... but he could hear the guffaw his cousin Shisui would have released if he could see him now.
  'Real smooth, Uchiha... real smooth.'

okay so this took me ages cause i had to find something i thought was worthy of your attention but also i was curious about counting the flowers and if i'm right there are 316 of them 😂 which issssssss too much for me to count sentences lol SO after much deliberation i have decided simply to present you with what is basically an entire chapter of Oslasil (largely removed from context but featuring a scene that was very fun to write)
ENJOY, MY LOVE! 💕💖💖💝💕💘✨✨✨😘
“I’m not playing your game.”
“Why not?”
“Have you looked around yourself in the past four hours? There isn’t anything to spot and guess! There hasn’t been since we passed by Calcheth. Everything is flat and grassy and identical to what’s beside it.”
Haroch shakes his head. His eyes are bright and welcoming, and there’s a slight flush on his cheeks. He’s enjoying this far too much. Though, if Veridis is honest with himself, this may be the closest he’s come to having fun in… he doesn’t know how long. It’s an odd feeling, but not unpleasant. Spending time with Haroch has never been unpleasant.
“You’re talking like a quitter, Veridis.”
“Hey!”
“You can’t get offended when you’re the one who gave up before he began!”
“I’m not offended. I just don’t appreciate being called a quitter.”
“Then step up to the challenge!” Haroch exclaims, knocking their shoulders together. “I’ve already spotted something green.”
Veridis stares at him with narrowed eyes, but he meets the gaze steadily. Obviously, Veridis is going to have to play by Haroch’s rules to gain back the upper hand. He huffs out a breath, more amused than frustrated, and turns his focus to their surroundings. It doesn’t take long to scan the environment and, just as he suspected, Veridis sees nothing green.
“Haroch, you’re losing your mind.”
“No, no, I’ve spotted something that’s green. You have to guess.”
“There isn’t anything.”
“That’s not a guess.”
“Okay. I guess that there’s nothing green.”
“You didn’t even try.”
“Ugh. You are relentless.”
Veridis tries to ignore Haroch chuckling beside him so he can do another sweep of the countryside. Nothing catches his eye as being particularly green; the storms have beaten this place down with their sickness. Most of the grass is prematurely yellow. The bits of prairie that are another color are the areas that are browning or that have already died off completely. Everything in camp fits within the same color scheme.
“I want another hint.”
Haroch’s eyebrows practically fly off his head, they shoot up so quickly. Prat. “Seriously?”
“Yes. I get to know more than the color, don’t I? I want more information.”
Haroch’s eyes roam Veridis’s face like he’s studying the elf. He bites his lower lip, but even that can’t hide his smile. It seems like years before he nods. “Okay. Um- yeah, alright. The thing I’ve spotted is both green and close to you.”
A quick scan of the ground around them is no help at all. Veridis is starting to see how this game would keep children entertained at the market. What he doesn’t understand is how the children don’t lose their minds with frustration when they can’t find what they’re meant to be spotting.
“Haroch.”
“Yeah?”
“I have absolutely no idea what you want me to find.”
“Are you giving up?”
“… Maybe.”
Haroch throws his head back and laughs. Veridis knows it’s at his expense, but it’s still a beautiful, infectious sound. He finds himself unable to stop smiling because he’s trying so hard to suppress his own laughter. When Haroch has composed himself enough to sit still again, he places his hand on Veridis’s shoulder and leans closer. His hand is, thankfully, just far enough from the pulse point that he shouldn’t be able to feel how fast Veridis’s heart is racing.
“You’re very unobservant for a ranger,” Haroch finally manages to say. He’s still a little breathless.
“Bold claim coming from a farm boy,” Veridis snaps back.
He doesn’t mean the words to be hurtful, but the moment they leave his lips he regrets them. Haroch stares at him, wide-eyed, and falls victim to another fit of laughter. Veridis’s brow creases in confusion.
“You really haven’t played games before. I guess a part of me still thought you were joking, but clearly I was wrong. And who are you calling farm boy? I seem to recall that the place you call home is a certain farming down in southern Theiq.”
“Hey, you can’t gloat until you can prove you actually spotted something green.”
“Wow. You’re going to accuse me of cheating at a game you don’t even know?”
“Maybe I am.”
Haroch rolls his eyes. “Big tough ranger you are. You refuse to let someone else take a guard shift so you can watch for danger, but you won’t look at your belt and notice that your very own dagger has a green hilt.”
Veridis glances down out of instinct and immediately feels foolish. He should have guessed this far sooner. Haroch is watching with a soft expression when he looks back up. Veridis doesn’t think of himself as particularly competitive, and yet… he can’t let this end here.
“Give me another guess.”
“What, really?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure? I won’t go easy on you. I thought I was making it simple by spotting your knife. If we go again, it’ll be harder.”
“If you won’t spot something for me, I’m going to spot something for you.”
“… You know what? Go ahead. Let’s see what you’ve got.”
The sun is high overhead by the time they stop playing the game. Both have lost track of what the other has spotted and who has guessed more than the other. In the hours that passed as they played, not a single traveler came up the road they’ve made camp on. So when Haroch makes his way closer to the edge of the stream, Veridis finds himself following.
They remove their boots so they can dip feet in cool water and take turns tossing pebbles to see who can make a larger splash. Veridis plucks a long piece of grass from beside him and begins twisting it around his fingers about the same time that Haroch leans back and settles his weight on his elbows. Veridis notices him staring not long after when he tries to look past him to watch the road.
“What?”
“Why wouldn’t you let Seilyn take the watch?”
“We just met, Haroch. I don’t trust her.”
“You don’t trust anyone.”
“Exactly.”
“Why not?”
Veridis shrugs and turns away from Haroch’s imploring eyes. “I’m a ranger. When you see what I’ve seen and do what I’ve done, it’s kind of hard to trust people.”
“I suppose.”
Haroch tips his head back so he has a better view of the sky. Veridis’s eyes are drawn to the column of his throat. He follows it up to Haroch’s jawline, and from there his lips, his nose, his eyes. He has long eyelashes. They’re as dark as his hair; even the midday sun can’t light them up. His lips part as he draws in a deep breath.
“How come you answer so many questions about yourself by saying you’re a ranger?”
“It’s applicable.”
He chuckles, and his lips tug into a ghost of the brilliant smile he’s been wearing all morning. “Sure, but why not anything else?”
“If I tell someone I’m a ranger, it wraps up everything about me that everyone else finds odd and ties it into a neat little package. I don’t have to try to elaborate on some habit I have, or find a reason for the way I act. I can say I’m a ranger, and they accept that at face value. They don’t tend to ask more questions. Unlike someone else I know.”
“You can’t blame me for being curious.”
“And why can’t I do that?”
“Because you’re the only ranger I know. You’re the source of my information. Soon enough I’ll know all the dirty little secrets you rangers keep from the rest of us.”
“Sure, Haroch.”
“I’ve never met anyone who kept as many secrets as you do.”
“Yes, well, I need to.”
Veridis stands and crosses camp to snag two apples from one of the sacks. Haroch rolls onto his side to watch him go. Veridis tosses one of the apples to Haroch as he returns to his side. Haroch snatches it out of the air and sits back up, turning the apple over in his hands. He twists the stem off and flicks it into the water. Veridis watches it as it floats away and vanishes beneath the surface.
“If I asked you something, Veridis, would you answer honestly?”
“Depends on the question, I suppose.”
“Right. How would you feel about another game, then?”
“I don’t think I could find something new to spot if my life depended on it.”
Haroch chuckles, pressing the back of his hand to his lips to cover the half-chewed apple in his mouth. For a bastard raised on a farm in the grasslands of Froel, he has good manners. Veridis only spent a couple of hours in Roldt’s presence, but he has no doubt that all the good in Haroch came from his uncle.
“Not that one. No, I used to play this one with my little sister. I suppose it isn’t actually much of a game, though.”
“What is it, then?”
“An exchange of information. I ask you something, you answer. You ask me something, I answer. Whatever we want to ask, but you only answer what you’re willing to share.”
Veridis bites into his apple as a way to buy himself more time. He’s finding, lately, that he does enjoy Haroch’s company, and talking with him seems to make the day pass quicker. Still, he could ask things the answers of which would put Veridis in danger.
“I don’t have to answer if I don’t want to?”
“Nope. And if I ask something that crosses a line, feel free to tell me off. Just as I would if you pushed too far.”
“Would you?”
Haroch shrugs with a grin. “Probably. I never needed to with my sister, so I can’t say for sure. Then again, she was much younger than you.”
“… Alright. I’ll play your game. If I get to ask the first question.”
“Go ahead.”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me you had a sister?”
“Technically I have two. Also two brothers. My father’s children with his wife, of course. Kheidan is hardly younger than I. Then there is Rona and Wynmar. Pennaedra is the youngest. She’s the one who would play games with me. She was just shy of her fourth year when I had to leave.”
“It sounds like you care for her very much.”
“I do,” he says. He smiles sadly at his hands. “Aceline hated that Pennaedra would spend so much time with me. Oh, but I love her. She’s the sweetest girl. Never cared that the rest of her family hated me.”
“I’m sorry you couldn’t see her before we left Aerilon.”
Haroch waves his hand dismissively. “We would have needed to go to Penketh for that, and I’d really rather not have to see my father or Aceline. Besides, I’m not sure Pennaedra would even know me anymore.”
“All the same.”
Haroch looks at Veridis as if seeing him for the first time. The tightness around his eyes softens. His tongue darts out to wet his lips, and he swallows a couple of times.
“Thank you.”
It isn’t until he clears his throat and turns away that Veridis realizes how close they’ve gotten. He scooches away as subtly as he can.
“What about you? Do you have any siblings?”
Green skirts and freckled shoulders flash through Veridis’s mind. He shakes his head with a frown.
“No. Or… yes? Not exactly.”
Haroch’s breath comes out in an amused huff. “That doesn’t make any sense.”
“My father was married once before he knew my mother. They had a daughter together. We met only once, when I was young.”
“I had no idea.”
“Yes, well, I don’t like to dwell in the past. I mean, why don’t you ever talk about your family?”
“I tried to avoid all of them if I was able to. Other than Roldt and Pennaedra, they aren’t good people. Kheidan, in particular, is rather cruel. And I suppose I don’t see the value in sharing stories about people I don’t care for.”
A beat passes as Haroch flings the rest of his apple across the stream.
“What were your parents like?”
The question makes Veridis’s blood run cold. He has to remind himself several times over that he doesn’t need to answer if he doesn’t want to. He shouldn’t. If he does, he should lie. The less that Haroch knows about him, the better. If Haroch is oblivious, he’s safe, and there is one less person in this world who could track Veridis.
And yet, there’s a part of him that needs to answer Haroch honestly. Veridis has no doubt that it is the same part of him that wanted Haroch on the team. The same part that has allowed a certain amount of openness. The same part that will undoubtedly get him killed one day.
Veridis tosses the core of his apple into the stream and leans forward so he can let the water run over his hands. When he sits back, he dries his hands against his shirt. He can feel Haroch’s eyes on him. He doesn’t know if the nervous tremble in his fingers is a result of Haroch or his question.
“I never knew my father very well. We were… distant with each other. He never loved my mother the way he loved his first wife, and there were times I wasn’t sure he even remembered that she was there. Oh, but my mother… she was withdrawn from the world much of the time. There were times she didn’t know I was around, and other times she simply didn’t care for my presence. But she loved my father dearly.
“’He likes the summer,’ I can remember her saying. She would go into a frenzy every year after the first snow. Her cheeks would be painted and she would trade her usual dresses for gowns that were bright and vibrant. She was glorious under the influence of winter. Where others always seemed to crumple in the cold, she blossomed.
“It was these times that I loved her most, that I needed her most. These were the times when she would remember me. Her arms would cradle me and her hair would tickle my face and her lips would sing praises for me. But… only in the winter. Only when she was bright, when she wrapped herself in satin gowns colored like the summer.
“Her favorite was a soft orange, more pink than yellow, and I remember it brought out the light that appeared in her eyes during those months. The hope and the warmth and the gentleness. But when the snow stopped falling and the first buds burst, she was gone. The gowns were gone, the paint on her cheeks was gone, the laughter and smiles and embraces were all gone. It was like she would take all the happiness in the world with her when she closed herself off again.
“’He likes the summer,’ she would say, and become the summer for him. But it was an act, like everything she did. When the real summer came, she could not be what she was not. She couldn’t make my father love her the way she deserved.”
For a long while, the only sounds are the burbling steam and the soft susurrate of the breeze through the grass. Veridis clenches his hands into fists to stop the trembling, but it feels now as if his entire body is a taut bowstring. He’s honestly not sure if a response from Haroch would release the tension or add to it. He can’t bring himself to face Haroch; his eyes have started to unfocus from where he’s locked on to a rock on the opposite bank. He can feel his teeth grating as if his jaw has been wired shut.
Haroch lets out a soft breath. The warmth of a hand hovers over Veridis’s shoulder briefly before it is drawn away without ever touching. Then the hand returns- this time on the ground beside Veridis’s hand, just inside his field of vision. There to hold if he wants it, but not forcing interaction.
“I think that’s the most I’ve ever heard you speak at once,” Haroch murmurs.
Veridis chokes on a quivering laugh. After a few more deep breaths, he is able to look at Haroch. He’s watching Veridis carefully, as if he might startle and flee like a while animal. Veridis can’t say that the thought hasn’t crossed his mind. He swallows to try and rid himself of the lump that has formed in his throat, but nothing happens.
Veridis feels shaky and unstable, like he could be blown away if the breeze were but a breath stronger. Though he left out key identifying details, everything that he’s said is the truth. It has been a long while since he’s thought about his mother at this length.
Usually, the briefest thoughts of home invoke anger or fear, but now… Never in the three years since he left has he considered returning. Never has he imagined his mother, shut in the house with no one to comfort her in the spring time.
Veridis wonders how she survived the first winter that he was gone.
Hot tears prick at his eyes. He blinks rapidly to banish them, startled and confused by their presence. For a second, he believes he might fall over. He places both hands on the ground to either side of him to steady himself and draw in a quivering breath.
“I didn’t mean to say so much,” he finally manages to whisper.
Haroch supplies a gentle smile. “I’m glad you told me.”
He doesn’t say anything more during the time it takes Veridis to compose himself. He doesn’t touch Veridis, either, but Veridis can feel the warmth of Haroch’s hand beside his own.

For the first time in years (10) movie night
Ao3 link will be added later cause this app hates me and I’m too tired to fight with it
Having flowers shoved into my face as soon as I opened the door wasn’t what I expected, but it's exactly what happened.
As soon as the door opened all I saw was a flash of red and green, granted, the color combination is not my favorite, I wasn’t scared. As quickly as they showed up, they disappeared.
And there he was, at first I just saw his hair.
“You got a haircut” What used to be long and flowing hair was now cut short, almost resembling what he wore the last year at Hogwarts. Only it was still different, then it was flat and styled so not a single strand was out of place. Now it looked sorta, well, messy. It was obvious he had run his hand through it countless times, yet it still looked intact. Standing up looking like it had, what was it? Volume! It had volume, so it doesn’t look flat against his head now.
“Um-I well,” His hand reached up to comb through it for probably the millionth time tonight. “Yes, I did.” Looking away from his hair I noticed he wasn’t looking at me, rather he was looking at the ground, cheeks flushed.
His hands had a tight hold on the flowers previously shoved into my face, fingers rhythmically tapping against the tightly packed stems. Looking at them closer I could see they were roses, some in the bold red you normally see on the muggle romance holiday, while others held the green that Draco himself dawned every day back at school. They were seemingly placed together carefully, almost showing a pattern within the petals.
Realizing I was lost in thought I look back up at him, his head still looking at the concrete. Nervousness obvious on his face as his hand not gripping the flowers reaches up to his hair once again.
“Oh!” I say quickly as I remembered I didn’t respond. “It looks nice!” I could feel my face heating up as he glances up at me, the nervous smile changing to something more genuine, those little wrinkles around the eyes showing through. His cheeks gaining more color as his fingers grip on the stems even harder than before.
“Thank you” Draco mumbled before quickly pushing the flowers out towards me, his arms straight out and slightly shaking. Almost pushing the bouquet straight into my nose. “I got these for you.” His voice cracked towards the end of the sentence, using a very fake cough to cover it up as he held the flowers there, waiting for me to take them.
Very slowly I reached out to grab them, our hands just slightly brushing beside one another before he quickly pulled his hands away. Running them through his hair once again before putting them by his sides. The rings on his right shining bright as my porch light reflect off of them just right.
“Would you like to come in?” I finally spit out as I remember how to talk, moving to the side as to leave the entry open. He nods before walking past me rather quickly, the flowers blowing slightly in the wind his movement caused.
Following behind him I close the door with my free hand. Without looking I almost run into him, seeing as he is just awkwardly standing just in front of the doorway. His hands shoved deep into the pockets of his jacket, shoes close together as he just looks at me.
I back away from him to go head over to the kitchen in an attempt to get something to put the flowers into. His eyes following me as he stands there.
“You can sit down wherever you want.” I yell to him as I start opening cupboards looking for a vase or something. “I’m just trying to find something for these and I’ll be right there.” As no response came I looked back towards the living room to find him sitting down, finally. His choice being on the far end of the couch.
After a few moments, I realize I don’t own anything to put these in. So I head over to the parchment I have waiting by the window to write a letter to Neville, asking if I can borrow one of his pots whenever he gets it.
“Who are you writing to?” Draco finally speaks up, his voice soft and faint.
“Oh, I-um, Neville” I stutter out, speaking and writing at the same time not a talent of mine.
“Why?”
“I need something to put the flowers in seeing as I don’t own one of those glass things.” I hear him chuckle as I say that, not much, but it is something. “Thank you for them, by the way.” Looking back at him I see the light pink from earlier returning to his face, along with those slight wrinkles around his eyes.
“Figured it was only right to bring something since it is your home after all Potter.” Now was my turn to laugh, enunciating ‘Potter’ to replicate how he used to say it back at school. His laugh echoing mine for a sheer moment. “Besides, the shop was on the way. Was far too nice to pass up.”
“So let me guess, marble floors and chandeliers?” The sarcasm evident in my voice, finishing up the letter as I whistle to Hedwig to come down from her perch.
“Quite the opposite actually.” He chuckled out. “Small and rustic, exposed brick in random places. Definitely not up to Malfoy standards.” I watch as he unfolds his legs, putting both feet on the ground as he slightly lays back onto the couch. Almost like he was becoming comfortable. “So of course I had to stop in.”
“Well obviously.” Hedwig landing by me, nipping me in the finger. Draco suppresses a laugh as I retract my hand and shake it as if it would get the bite off.
“You would have liked it, or rather the person running it says she just opened last week.”
“Oh? And why’s that?”
“Reminded me of Lovegood, only she made more sense, most of the time.” Tying the paper to Hedwig I nod at him to continue. “She also had a small muggle flag in the shop, one of those Pride things I believe they’re called? It read very open-mindedly, you’d be comfortable there I feel.”
“Seems like you were too,” I respond as Hedwig flies off.
“Well, there weren’t too many people there. Just me, a lone girl, and this couple off to the corner, who seemed to be playfully arguing about whether or not the shorter really needed this big bouquet of yellow daisies.” Stretching his arms rather quickly he continues. “The lone girl had been constantly picking up different sets of flowers. Going between these colorful lilies and sunflowers the size of her head. Believe she left with both if I’m not mistaken." He stops talking abruptly as I head back to the kitchen, not without running into a chair in the process.
“Ignore me, continue” His laugh rings out as I roughly push the chair out of my way without remembering he was watching.
“Easy.” The words were barely audible through his laugh. I shoot him a glare and he sarcastically throws his hands in the air. “Basically the smaller one didn’t think she needed flowers, while the taller one disagreed, obviously wanting to buy her the flowers. Went on practically the entire time I was there, swear the shorter of the two was planning on hexing her partner by the end of it. The shopkeep told me they were friends of hers, so the flowers were being bought regardless.”
He tails off as he sees me walking towards the couch, sitting on the opposite end as him. Quickly fixing his posture he looks at me, his hand impulsively going to fix his hair again. Silence filled the room as we just sat looking at one another.
“So I figured we could watch a movie?” Shock went over his face for a moment before he nodded, quickly looking at the muggle television as my eyes locked onto his.
“I told you to plan this so that would be fine.” Draco spits out, rather fast. Hands clenched at his sides once again. The loose shirt he was wearing showed his breathing had quickened.
“Did you want to do something else?” He shook his head no as he looked back at me. As he did his chest began to rise slower, hands unclenching, muttering something as he crossed his legs. “Sorry I didn’t hear that.”
"I don’t know what a ‘movie’ is, so I don’t know what to expect” Oh, I guessed I had figured he had gone into the muggle world when he left. Pink turned red as he looked back to the television. Remembering how I explained it to Neville when he’d first been asked to go to one by that girl. Now that I think of it, he had been quite scared too, maybe it wasn’t because it was his first date since the yule ball.
“Well they're basically just moving pictures but with noise and anywhere from an hour to 3 hours long, not much.” He seemed to let out a breath of relief at that, a smile creeping onto his face. Almost as if he was nodding to himself, he let himself relax into the couch before looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
Swiftly I went over to start the movie, having already put it in earlier to make sure it worked. Pressing play I heard the ads start playing on the speakings, startling Draco as he jumped, making sure I kept my mouth shut.
Walking back to the kitchen I grabbed the snacks I had gotten, along with the tea kettle and every type of tea I could find at the muggle shop. Laying it all down on the coffee table, Draco looked up at me bewildered before looking back at all of it. Running back over to the bar, I grabbed a mug for him to use and placed it in front of him, nodding at the kettle.
He seemed to pick up what I was saying as he started looking through the assortment of teas. After a few moments picking one up and putting it into the kettle. Finally calm, I decide to start watching the television ads just about to end.
As Draco pours himself a cup of the tea I spell the lights to dim so there's no glare on the screen, he only jumps for a moment this time. Most of his focus on the movie, wonder spread across his face as he tries to focus on every little detail that passes by.
--------
“Can we watch another?” Draco said, the first thing he's spoke the entire film. His eyes wide and a small smile stretched across his face. Both hands wrapped around the mug I had given him the hour before. Rubbing my eyes I notice that the sun had completely gone down outside, the stars shining clear and bright.
Not unlike how Draco's eyes had looked staring into mine. Filled with something I’d never quite seen before. Yet, something I never wanted to stop seeing.
“If you’re okay with staying late then sure” I speak up, still staring into his eyes. They fill with more wonder as he starts to get excited before quickie catching himself and just smiling. His eyes though, they show the sheer happiness he feels at that news. Nodding to me he resumes his spot, only this time I notice, is a bit closer to me than last.
As not to ruin this closeness, I spell the movie out and replace it with a random one Neville had lent me when I flooed him in a panic the night before. He’d laughed at me while handing me a box of the things and saying “Any of them will be fine, nothing too over the top”
Pressing play on the remote I was luckily able to skip through the ads on this one. This particular movie played quite loud so I turned the volume down as I sunk into the couch. Spelling the lights even darker as to match the time, I decided to close my eyes, not expecting to be as tired as I was.
Dracos laughter at some joke on the screen was the last thing I heard before I let sleep overcome me.
-------------
“Mate for the last time you're going to be late” Came shouted from outside the front door, followed by constant pounding. Reaching my hand up to rub my eyes, I felt them brush against something soft. Looking down I instantly noticed
Draco Malfoy was asleep. On my chest. In my living room.
“Honestly Harry we need to get going if we plan on making it to the game at all.” Rang Hermione's voice as what I’m now guessing was Ron's first upon my door.
I felt Draco stir as they kept banging on the door, quickly I reached for my wand and cast a silencing charm on the door. Their voices fell quiet as I saw the magic work, Draco's head lying still again upon my shoulder, his hand reaching to my other one as his breathing slowed.
Deciding instantly that while I don’t know how this happened, I couldn’t stop it. I cast a Patronus telling Ron and ‘Mione I was feeling ill and couldn't make it.
Throwing my wand onto the ground I lay my head back down, slowly wrapping my hands around Draco. As I do so, he burrows his head further into my chest.
This is going to be one hell of a conversation when he wakes up.

Hopeless: Chapter Four

Klaus Mikaelson x OC

It was two days later that I decided to brave the possibility of Klaus’ wrath again. I needed to feed again and I also needed to find vervain. I hadn’t had the chance since I last went to town—Klaus had been watching me like a hawk and while Elijah was kind, it was clear he was suspicious of me. Both of my sudden appearance and his brother’s sudden friendliness towards me—both of us were surprised by that one.
Klaus had received news that Katherine’s had been delayed by a few days due to the storm that they had gotten caught in. They had to stop and wait for it to pass before continuing to travel. Klaus wasn’t as irritated by that as I thought he would be, simply saying that there was plenty of time before the full moon—even though she would arrive the day before—and he wasn’t looking forward to “pretending to woo her” anyway. I’d snorted and thrown a cushion at him for his remark, startling and amusing both Mikaelson men.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts and I turned the doorknob to my room slowly, very aware that while I couldn’t hear him, Klaus could hear me. It was night-time, which was the only time that both men weren’t watching me so I figured it was the best time to sneak out. I closed the door almost all of the way—it would make it easier to sneak back in. Without wasting another moment I flashed to the front door, repeating the same movements before I was out.
I flashed to the woods and couldn’t help the smile that formed on my face—I had always loved the night, before I was a vampire, now that love had grown. It was so peaceful, so serene. You felt like you had the whole world to yourself because almost everyone else was asleep. I inhaled the night air, enjoying how cold and crisp it felt in my lungs before forcing myself to focus. Food and vervain. That was all I needed. I nodded in agreement with myself and tucked my hair behind both ears, allowing me to hear my surroundings better. It didn’t take long for me to pick up a heartbeat a few miles away and without another thought I flashed in that direction. I had already known it was human—their heartbeats tended to be slower than most animals—so when I reached him I didn’t waste anytime. He was walking along the road, his feet scuffling against the gravel. After using my hearing one more time to make sure no one else was around I flashed in front of him.
‘Excuse me, miss, I didn’t see you there.’ He apologised and I cursed—this would have been easier if he had been a dick over it.
‘That’s quite alright,’ I stepped forward and compelled him, ‘don’t make a sound and don’t move. This isn’t going to hurt.’
I made sure my compulsion had actually taken effect before bringing my vampire face forward and gently biting into his neck, once again groaning at the taste. Before I had become a vampire, I was sure that nothing tasted better than chocolate, but I was wrong. The taste of blood was completely and utterly blissful. I forced myself to remain in control and concentrated on his heartbeat, repeating the same movements I had with the last man I had fed from. A few more minutes later he was healed and on his way without a memory or care in the world. I flashed back into the woods before he could spot me and started my search of vervain. Thankfully I knew what it looked like—I had helped both Stefan and Damon with collecting it on separate occasions. If I hadn’t been able to identify it, the search could have taken a lot longer thanks to the various types of flowers littered throughout the woods. I had come back to my original spot—about a hundred yards from the Mikaelson house—when I saw it. It was planted in the ground in a perfect circle and reached up to my knees. I approached it slowly, preparing myself for possibly burning myself. But thankfully I had a brain wave and wrapped the cloth of my dress around my hand before plucking a couple of stems from the ground. I’d just slid them into my pocket when I heard something. Twigs breaking.
I frowned and focused harder, trying to determine the direction it had come from but I was met with silence. The lack of heartbeat meant it was a vampire. The big question was if it were friend or foe. I got my answer when Klaus stepped out from behind a nearby tree, scaring me half to bloody death.
‘Jesus Christ,’ I bought my hand to where my heart used to beat, ‘you scared me!’
‘Sorry, love.’ He smirked, clearly not sorry at all, ‘care to share why you were seeking out a flower that is toxic to our kind?’
‘It’s pretty?’ I offered unconvincingly, fighting the urge to make a break for it—he could catch me, he’d proved that once before.
‘Not planning on using it against me are you, Evangeline?’ The sound of him saying my name made a small shiver run down my spine.
‘No,’ I shook my head, taking a step backwards, ‘I just didn’t fancy the possibility of being compelled again.’
 ‘Really?’ he stepped towards me.
‘Yes. You need to start trusting me, Klaus.’ I berated him and for a reason I couldn’t explain, my eyes drifted to his lips for a split second before I looked away just as quickly.
‘That works both ways, love.’ He smirked, stepping even closer, I tried to move away but I was met with a tree trunk, ‘you clearly don’t trust me, or my brother.’
‘That’s because I know what you’re both capable of. I know how unlikely it is for you to trust anyone outside of your family, so forgive me for being on guard against the false sense of security you’re trying to lead me into.’ I snapped, glaring at him and trying not to be affected by his scent. He smelled like the woods, rain and whiskey.
‘That doesn’t seem fair. You’re judging us for crimes we have not yet committed.’ He scolded me lightly, but I could see a genuine flash of sadness in his eyes before it fell away.
‘The crimes you commit aren’t what matters, it’s why you commit them, that doesn’t go away or change.’ I said, biting my lip to stop myself from apologising—why did I feel bad for being cautious of him, knowing what I knew?
‘I plan to earn your trust, love.’ He told me confidently.
‘Why?’ I sounded bewildered, ‘what’s the point? Why do I need to trust you to do what I told you I would?’
‘I suppose you don’t need to,’ he admitted, looking down at my lips before he met my gaze again, ‘but I want to.’
 ‘I don’t understand.’ I shook my head.
‘Neither do I, since you arrived I have wondered why I didn’t kill you on the spot. Why you have captivated my thoughts for the past two days. Why I was so quick to trust you, even knowing your true intentions after I compelled you. Why I want that trust to be returned. You tell me, love because I want to know.’ He said and I was taken aback by the sincerity in his voice and his eyes.
Before I could ponder his words, my attention was focused completely on Klaus as he moved even closer to me, his hands going to my waist and pulling my body flush against his. I was hopeless to stop the gasp that fell out of my mouth; both from the feel of his body against mine and the lustful look in his blue eyes. He was captivating me, I was a moth flying too close to the flame and for the life of me I couldn’t think of a single reason why kissing him was a bad idea. So I moved my hands that had been resting on the tree trunk behind me and bought them to his shoulders, biting my lip as his hard muscles tensed underneath my touch. He rested his forehead against mine, the movement causing his lips to brush against mine ever so briefly. The electricity that arose from the action surprised me, and went straight to the growing desire in my centre. I blamed the fact that I hadn’t been touched romantically by a man in a very long time for what I did next. I tilted my jaw and bought my lips to his, kissing him fully.
It took him a moment to respond, I assumed he was surprised, but when he did I couldn’t help the moan that escaped my lips as his tongue entered my mouth and battled with mine. Neither of us were the submissive type, so the kiss was full of passion, lust and a fight for dominance that neither of us surrendered to. While we kissed my hands went to his curls, running though them and tugging gently at the strands, causing him to groan into my mouth as his own hands wondered. One hand went to my ass while the other travelled down my right thigh before pausing at my knee and hitching the leg around his hip. We both groaned at the jolt of pleasure created from the friction. His lips moved from my mouth and down to my neck where he placed open mouthed kisses and allowed his fangs to trace over the skin. I felt him smirk when I shuddered; when he didn’t bite into the skin I found I was a little disappointed. I hadn’t been fed on before—even as a human—a part of me had always wondered what it felt like, or what it could feel like. But those thoughts quickly left me as his other hand pulled down the fabric of my dress, allowing his sinful lips access to my chest. I moaned his name when he took one of my nipples into his mouth, his tongue swirling around while his teeth playfully grazed the flesh. He smirked again and deciding he needed to be teased too, I used our position to grind my hips against his, adding fuel to the desire that was burning in the both of us. He released a growl that made me shiver, when his eyes met mine I bit my lip at the hunger I saw in his blue orbs. No one had ever looked at me with such pure uncontained desire.
He bought his lips to mine again, but this kiss was rougher, more commanding and I found myself submitting to him instantly, secretly loving the approving growl that escaped him as he did. His hands moved to reach under my dress and I found myself practically twitching in anticipation. The need for him was too great, I wanted him more than I had ever wanted anything and I decided to question the implications of that later, when I was satisfied. He was just about to pull off my undergarments and I bought my lips to his as he started to move them down, moaning as his hands caressed my skin as he did—
‘Lord Klaus?’ A voice cut through the air, inevitably breaking the moment.
Klaus’ hands dropped my skirt back down immediately, shielding me from whoever had joined us in the clearing. Klaus turned around and I gathered from the tone of his voice that he was a little pissed, personally I was glad to not be on the receiving end of his anger in that moment.
 ‘Yes, Trevor?’ he growled.
‘We have received news that the destroyer is heading towards the Americas, my Lord.’ He said nervously, and I couldn’t blame him.
‘Is that all?’ Klaus asked, a little less annoyed but not much.
‘Also Miss Katarina Petrova will be arriving a day earlier than expected. I made sure her driver continued travelling through the night in order to gain back the few days lost by the storm. She will be here three days before the moon, as planned.’
‘Very well. You are dismissed.’ Klaus sighed, running a hand through his hair and I sighed myself, the reminder of the doppelgänger he would soon be courting destroyed the mood beyond repair.
A part of me wanted to question him on “The Destroyer” but I sensed it wasn’t the time, and if the tension in Klaus’ shoulders were an indication, he didn’t want me to ask. Once Trevor had left I moved out from behind Klaus and kissed his cheek, offering him a small smile when I pulled way.
‘Goodnight, Lord Klaus,’ I couldn’t stop the teasing tone of my voice if I tried.
‘Goodnight, Evangeline.’ He returned, a small but genuine smile on his face; if my heart were still beating, it would have been going wild in that moment.

BTMH: Chapter 5: Pork Cutlet Bowl
Tumblr media
~Flashback~
Yakov and Seonghwa were standing on a snow-covered bridge as snow fell from the sky, a common occurrence in Russia. Seonghwa had his back to Yakov as he started to walk away. He was holding a briefcase and he had on his maroon scarf.
“Vitya! Don’t go! Stay here!” Yakov shouted after him.
Seonghwa turned around, giving Yakov a small smile. “Yakov, you were the best coach I ever had. You always will be,” Seonghwa said.
“If you walk away now you can never come back!” Yakov said.
Seonghwa placed his briefcase on the ground and put his hand on Yakov’s shoulder. He leaned in and pressed a kiss on his cheek. “Dasvidaniya. I’m sorry I can’t do as you say this time,” Seonghwa said.
~Flashback End~
Minako ran through the front entrance of Hasetsu Hot Springs Yu-Topia Katsuki. She had some snow on top of her long, brown hair.
“Y/N! Why aren’t you answering your cell?!” Minako yelled.
“What’s wrong?” Hiroko asked.
“Everything’s wrong! There’s a rumor that Seonghwa’s going to be Y/N’s coach!” Minako said as the snow fell off her head.
Minako ran up to Hiroko and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Oh, Seonghwa’s already here,” Hiroko said.
“What?” Minako said, not sure she heard her properly. She looked behind Hiroko and saw Seonghwa sleeping on the ground in the hot spring robes. Makkachin was curled up against his side.
Hiroko smiled at the sight. “Seonghwa’s sound asleep.”
Y/N, Yuuri, and Hiroko watched him as he slept.
‘Hello! Katsuki Y/N here, again, but I’m sure you know who I am by now. I’m in a bit of a slump right now, but I’m a top figure skater certified by the JSF! Back home for the first time in five years, I was thinking of how to keep my career going… When my idol, Seonghwa, suddenly appeared! I’m still in denial that this is actually happening! By the way, Seonghwa Nikiforov is a living legend in figure skating. I never dreamed he’d be interested in me, but …’
“Starting today, I’m your coach. I’ll make you win the Grand Prix Final!” Seonghwa said.
“What is he saying, standing there buck naked?” Y/N said.
“Y/N!” Minako yelled, bring Y/N back to reality out of her flashback.
Minako pointed at Seonghwa. “Why is Seonghwa sleeping in one of the inn’s robes?!”
“He soaked in the hot spring and had dinner, then fell asleep…” Y/N said with a shrug.
“It’s big news in Russia. He’s taking next season off and is considering his next move. They’re also saying that when he saw the video of you skating his routine, he was struck with inspiration, and that’s when he decided to be your coach,” Minako explained.
Y/N stopped in her place. She still couldn’t believe that Seonghwa had come all the way to Japan just to coach her. She thought this was all a dream and she’d wake up any moment now and she’d be in her bed, Seonghwa in Russia. She wanted to believe it was true, and that he truly wanted to coach her, but it was hard to. It just all seemed too good to be true. It couldn’t be real.
“Huh?” Y/N said.
“Seonghwa came here because he chose you, Y/N! You brought him here! That’s incredible!” Minako said.
Y/N put a hand to her chest. “This is really happening, I really brought him here. I couldn’t’ve ever imagined something like this would happen.”
Jongho Plisetsky is at his rink back in Russia, looking at an article on his phone. An article titled, Russia Champion Skater Moves to Japan to Coach Skater Y/N Katsuki”. Jongho gritted his teeth as he scrolled through the article, getting more and more angry with each word he read. What did the piggy do to deserve Seonghwa as a coach? Nothing!
“Huh? Seonghwa went to Japan to become Y/N Katsuki’s coach?” Jongho said, his hand starting to shake out of anger. “Why that fatso? Did Seonghwa forget what he promised me?”
Jongho slammed his locker shut before leaving the locker room, and entering the ice rink where Mila and Felix stood on the ice.
“Yakov! Where are you? Explain this to me, damn it!” Jongho shouted angrily.
Yakov couldn’t hear what he said because he stood outside being interviewed by reporters.
“Seonghwa wants to take time off until he finds his motivation again. Personally, I doubt he’ll be able to return if he takes a break now,” Yakov said.
“He’s going to couch Katsuki Y/N in Japan—” A reporter said.
Yakov snatched the microphone the reporter was holding. “That man only thinks of himself! He’ll never be anyone’s coach!”
Back at Yu-Topia Katsuki, Seonghwa was sleeping on the floor. Y/N, Yuuri, and Minako were still watching him, in awe that he was actually there in the hot spring. Seonghwa sneezed and the three gasped. Soon after Seonghwa sat up, Makkachin in his arms.
“Oh, he’s awake,” Y/N said.
Seonghwa yawned, his robe partially slipping off one of his shoulders. “I’m starving. Hungry…”
“Huh?” Y/N said, her eyes widening.
“He still wants to eat?” Minako asked.
Y/N flailed her arms before calming herself down. “Um, what would you like to eat?”
Seonghwa thought for a second. “Hmm… As your coach, I’d like to know what your favorite food is, Y/N.”
“What?” Y/N said.
Hiroko walked over to the group and placed a pork cutlet bowl in front of Seonghwa. It was freshly made with steam rising off it.
“Wow! Amazing!” Seonghwa said in English.
“Our specialty, the pork cutlet bowl, extra-large!” Hiroko said, a smile on her face.
Seonghwa picked up a piece of pork with his chopsticks and takes a small bite of it. His eyes widened. “Vkusno!” He said. Seonghwa ate the rest of the bowl very quickly, clearly enjoying it greatly. “Delicious! Too good for words! Is this what God eats?!”
“I’m glad you like it,” Y/N said with a smile on her face.
“It’s mom’s specialty!” Yuuri said proudly.
“Y/N gains weight easily, so he was only allowed to eat it when he won a competition. Right?” Minako said.
“It’s not my fault I have a slow metabolism,” Y/n grumbled, resting her cheek on her hand.
“Oh? So have you eaten this pork cutlet bowl recently?” Seonghwa asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes, yes. I eat it often,” Y/N said.
Seonghwa chuckled, a small smile on his face. “Why? You haven’t won anything. With that pig body of yours, lessons would be meaningless.”
Y/N’s face dropped. Someone tried to yank her shirt up to show her belly but she quickly yanked her shirt back down. Makkachin whined as Y/N did that.
“You need to get back to your weight at last year’s Grand Prix Final, at the least…” Seonghwa said. “Or I can never coach you. Until then, no more pork cutlet bowls. Okay, little piggy?”
Y/N staggered out of the room, hands on her head. “P-piggy? I feel like I should be offended,” Y/N said to herself.
‘Y/N here again. I guess you can say this is childish, but I’ve had a crush on Seonghwa for the longest time. I really never thought about it much because I didn’t think anything would ever stem from it. I had never met him, and I was almost positive I wasn’t his type. So I never thought to think about it much, but now that they are here. I’m not sure what to do.’
“Hey, this luggage is in the way,” Minako said.
“Can you take it to the room where I’ll be staying?” Seonghwa said, gesturing his hand.
“Staying?” Y/N, Yuuri, and Minako said at the same time.

Mike Request (if you do something like this) instead of Mike, Reader gets into the situation of Zeke (the place where Mike died) Mike comes to Reader to find her and finds her in the situation. I'll leave it up to you whether Reader dies before Mike's eyes or whether she survives
Thank you for this request. Sorry it’s taken a few days to write but I hope you enjoy. I was intrigued to write it with the reader dying at the end but the world what it is right now & mental health not being great, trying to write that was a bit much for me, so I hope this is okay! I also wrote it so there was somewhat of an emotional attachment (potentially romantic) between the two, but not necessarily so. I’m a big fan of both romantic and platonic relationships being very close/showing each other how you feel.
The grass was alive, you’d never noticed just how many life forms inhabited each small square until now. Wildflowers for as far as the eye could see, the scent of them carried on the wind. There, you smell it? You inhaled sharply through your nose if you tried to focus hard enough you could imagine you were free. That you were anywhere but here. That it was late spring and you were sat by the river with fellow scouts, laughing and mucking around, your friends nudging you when Mike walked past knowing how much you liked him. The thought put a small smile on your face, just a moment though, a heart beat and then the foul breath of the beast in front of you brought you back down to earth.
So this is where it ends. You always knew from the moment you joined the Scouts and vowed to give your heart, you knew this was a possibility and that death in battle was likely but somehow you never pictured it would be quite like this. Alone, immobilised, unable to even really fight till the very end. The smell of rot & decay permeating the air around you. You thought of Erwin’s rousing speeches and how much you believed in him, how you’d been ready to die for him, for humanity. That was still the case wasn’t it? Panic surged through you as you looked up at the strange titan ahead of you. He turned your ODM gear over in his hands, you could hear him talking, knew it was the same language you spoke and yet when your mouth opened to speak back nothing but hot air escaped.
Your eyes closed, scrunched up as you fought back tears. Your hands and feet had gone numb and it wouldn’t have surprised you if you’d pissed yourself. It seemed you’d lost all control over both your body and mind.
As Mike approached the Beast Titan from a distance he saw you on the floor, your ODM gear in the hands of the giant. For a second he froze, struck by the horror and incomprehensible situation in front of him, the beast was speaking and he could understand. You, you seemed so helpless and small to him, you who he had taken such an interest in your skills proving you were more than capable of taking care of yourself. Mike thought about the jokes you’d shared on a few rare occasions you spoke alone, the glance you’d give him when he passed you. He calculated his options, there had to be a way to save you surely? He was second only to Levi, he could do this.
His heart pounded in his chest as he started to move towards you, he could make it, he could save you from his living hell and the two of you could escape. He believed in it, he had to or else he wouldn’t have given into the desire for such a suicidal charge.
You thought about Mike’s last words, about humanity only loosing when they give up fighting, no you would not give up, not now. You screamed a primal scream as you raised your swords and charged for the beast titan. And then, you heard them move, the titans behind you, the beast turned uninterested in your war cry. No. No amount of screaming would save you as the titans closed in around you. They had you surrounded there was no way out you were trapped, it wasn’t supposed to end like this was it?
Several grabbed for you at the same time, you tried to move but fear had you frozen to the ground, you were screaming now over and over begging them not to hurt you as they lifted you into the air. Blinding heat seared through your shoulder as you felt one bite into you arm, the pain unbearable as you howled your arm ripped from your socket. The others were pulling at you, any second now and you’d be ripped apart and they’d be nothing left, choking on your own sobs you tried to make peace with your past and then a familiar sound rang past your ears. A swoosh and a slice, metal against titan flesh. A familiar cry of anguish, a challenger from a soldier who was tired and done with the never-ending battle.
The pain dulled as your eyes flickered, you tried to focus on the light as you fell to the ground. The ringing stayed inside your head as blood rained down from above. The grass felt so soft underneath you, wildflowers, violets you would have guessed.
You felt someone take hold of you, raising you up from your grave and a second later the cooling breeze welcomed you home as you were carried back up to the safety of the rooftops. When you opened your eyes Mike was there looking over you, holding you tightly in his arms. He ripped off his cloak and used it to tie round the bleeding stump in an attempt to stem the bleeding until you could seek proper medical attention. You’d never seen him look so concerned or determined, his brows furrowed as he tied the material. His other arm still round you, finger tips gently stroking your skin as he spoke softly.
“I’ve got you, you’re safe. You’re safe with me now,” he said as he pressed a kiss to your forehead, it didn’t matter that you were covered in blood he just needed you to know. But you knew when you heard him inhale through his nose as he bent down, when he smelt your hair, you heard him say, “buttercups,” under his breath.
You knew the Beast Titan was still close by and it was likely he would realise what had happened. You weren’t out of the woods yet, but a tranquility washed over you, the pain dulled and it didn’t matter to you then if you lived or died, you weren’t alone, you wouldn’t die alone and neither would Mike if that was where your destiny lay.
Mike stroked your hair a few times, you struggled to open your eyes but managed just so you could see his face. The tears in his eyes didn’t lie, nor did the trace of a smile on his lips.
A moment later he was stood up, scooping you into his arms and close to his chest as he did so, “We need to get out of here quickly.”
You did your best to nod, how terrible it was now to feel like a burden but also that tenderness such a sweet release from the nothingness that was about to befall you. You heard the sound of Mike’s ODM gear and a second later you were in the air, a few moments later Mike had you on his horse and jumped up behind you. As his horse galloped away, Mike’s arm pulled you close to his chest, his hand surely must have felt your heart beat. You nuzzled back into him as you felt sleep begin to take over, the steady rhythm of the hooves lulling you into what you knew could be a false sense of security.
Yes, you knew the Beast Titan was behind you somewhere, but ahead was home and back-up. Ahead were your family and you knew with Mike protecting you somehow you’d both make it home wouldn’t you? Such a beautiful dream it would be a waste for you to wake up now.
(I’m leaving it up to the reader to decide whether they manage to escape or not. I like to think they do though I’m pretty sure the Beast Titan would notice, either way - if they escape that’s lovely, if they don’t then at least Mike doesn’t die alone).

Your head was about to explode. Minhyuk and Hoseok tried filling you in on lots of details, many of which made them seem like they escaped from a loonie bin, and were doing a horrible job of making it make any sort of sense. They would stop a part of the information to tell a story then go back to filling you up with fun facts and weird trivia items all while telling more stories.
“Okay, so let me get this straight,” You started slowly, piecing things together in your own time. You were currently sitting in the back seat of your dilapidated car, Hoseok driving, Minhyuk sitting passenger, occasionally turning back to explain more stuff. “I’m some sort of Queen. I’m not entirely human. Neither are you guys. I’m also not the only Queen around. These shadows, or whatnot, are the reason for my panic attacks and fainting spells and the only way to fight them back is to use power that stems from using myself and you two as direct resources, correct?”
“Yes, that’s the gist of it.” Minhyuk sighed, relaxing into the seat, proud of their explanations that ran rampant.
Hoseok looked in the mirror to gauge your reaction and smirked. He gave it a few seconds before—
“ARE YOU TWO BAT SHIT CRAZY?!”
There it is.
Minhyuk about jumped through the roof of the car in a panic at your tone, wanting to do everything he could to avoid you lashing out at him.
“If you think this is crazy, you won’t survive hearing about your own personal harem.” Hoseok chuckled, turning the car onto another street that led to the highway.
Minhyuk glared daggers into his partner’s head. Just finding out you weren’t entirely human was enough to shock you, but to find out this new piece was too much even for a Queen. You were new to this and humans sure as hell didn’t have harems waiting at their beck and call.
Okay, you’ll bite for a slight second. “By harem, you mean…”
“I mean,” he pulled the car to a stop, parking in front of a dark, two-story house. It had vines almost crawling all over the windows, trees that hung low to shadow the view from the harsh moonlight. It screamed haunted in your head and you wanted to just about run the other direction. Especially when Hoseok said, “It’s a group of possible suitors for you to continue your royal lineage as well as protect you from other Queens or Kings and possibly lost shadows who want you dead.” He quickly got out of the car to avoid your harsh screeching as you tried to pummel him, a small chuckle leaving his throat as he paraded himself to the trunk of your car and pulled your belongings out, throwing them over his shoulder.
“This doesn’t make any sense.” You pushed, throwing yourself out of the car and slamming it, much to its chagrin.
“It doesn’t have to. Just know we will keep you safe if you let us.” Hoseok dismisses, walking to the front door and kicking it open. Minhyuk waited with you while you put more things together.
“Look, I appreciate you both helping me get away from what could have been the worst night of my life. But I don’t think I should stay here.” You looked wearily at their place. You vaguely remember driving through a pair of black gates that had the name of the establishment, but this small house didn’t seem like something that warranted such high security. Sure, it seemed homey, but what would happen should another episode come? You didn’t even know these strange men, yet you went with them to some house in the middle of the woods. This may not be a prank show, but it was turning into one of those dateline documentaries about the people who go missing.
“My Queen, Wonho is a bit rash sometimes. We never thought we’d be able to find our own Queen to serve and we quite literally stumbled upon you. I know that we are strangers to you, but to us, we would die for you if you asked us to. It’s a very intense thing, but Queens are highly revered in our species. Now, you’re free to do as you please here. This place is yours to do with as you wish.” Minhyuk explained softly, guiding you to the front door. “If you want to leave, we will help you get established some place else but for the time being, we don’t think it wise to be out and about when lost shadows have seen you awaken.”
There’s that word again. Awaken.
“Minhyuk,” he snapped his attention towards you eagerly with a “My Queen.”
“Minhyuk, what do you mean by awaken?” You questioned. Just this morning you were a regular everyday joe making a cup of...well, joe. Now you’re some sort of Queen?
“I think we should go inside and further discuss this.” He said with a bright smile, though you could see a hint of cautiousness in his tone.
For whatever reason, you followed him inside.
***
It was like a punch straight to his chest.
That’s impossible.
He frowned curiously before shaking his head.
“You felt her too?” His second-in-command queried.
A slight nod was all he gave before he gave an order.
“Get everything together. We will find her.”
***
Hoseok avoided you for the rest of the evening. Minhyuk tried giving you the “grand tour” but you told him you needed space after a couple of rooms. He agreed with you immediately and set off to go do something but not before he told you they would have someone coming tomorrow to better explain things for you. A guardian of some sort.
You were currently in some sort of den, a small fireplace was to your right and a whole wall of glass panes in front of you. It seemed to overlook some sort of deck outside but perhaps that would be better to explore in the daytime. You really did love being outside, though. The fresh air did wonders to calm your racing thoughts and kept you grounded. Would it be okay just to sit out there for a moment or two?
Screw it.
Chancing it, you heaved open the glass pane and stepped out. As soon as you touch the wooden deck, small lights that decorated the edges lit up. You gasped in wonder, gazing at the twinkling lights around you before going to sit on a bench and staring up at the night sky, a smile edging its way onto your face. If you had decided to stay here, this could very well be your favorite spot.
If.
Your smile dropped and your mind kept going back and forth through today’s events.
Awaken. Queen. Harem. Shadows. Kill.
You wondered if your parents knew about this. Surely they would have told you such a preposterous thing if it was true, right? Or did they know? You still had so many questions left unanswered yet you were still giving these strange men a chance to prove themselves and a chance to help with your episodes.
With a huff, you leaned back and laid against the flat surface, staring straight up at the stars and thinking of your past. Was there something you missed? Something that hinted to this sudden change?
“You know, if you can’t sleep, me or Minhyuk would gladly service you.” His cocky voice appeared. You grumbled to yourself before you turned your head to see him leaning against the wall, arms folded. He was wearing a tight fitting white T-shirt with gray sweatpants that hung perhaps a little too low for your comfort. You weren’t a prude by any means, but you were used to being on the run. Taking long looks and fawning over people wasn’t exactly a priority.
“You know, if you want to keep pissing me off, you’re doing a great job.” You quipped back. Focusing back on the stars.
He muttered a low “ouch” before chuckling and came to sit on the ground right below you.
He was quiet for a moment, choosing his next words carefully. “We didn’t want this either, Y/N.” He said seriously. You turned a curious look to him, prodding him to continue. “It’s just, we felt that you were in danger. Earlier today, at the coffee shop I was minding my own self and then when you spoke to me, I don’t know, your voice just snapped something into me. I’m not even sure what it was, but I knew I wanted to serve you in any way I could.” He confessed. He rolled his eyes at his openness before standing up. Not looking at you, he said, “There will be more suitors coming for you. I wasn’t kidding about the harem you could have, should you want it. This is all very new to you, but for many of us, this is something we’ve wanted for years. I don’t want to pressure you entirely, but I don’t exactly want you to dismiss us, should you want to. You do have a choice here, but as your first major duty, you’ll have to decide whether to turn us away or not. We can service you in any sort of way be it friends, family, or lovers. More will come for you and it will be up to you and only you on whether or not you’ll have them as well as me and Minhyuk. Think about it, Your Highness.”
You heard his retreating footsteps before you closed your eyes, a small pressure making its way to the base of your skull, insinuating the migraine that was to come.
Well, shit.

Hi 👋🏽 could i request a filthy scenario? One where Sanji’s crush, who is also his best friend, has been acting grumpy lately and when he pushes her to find out what’s wrong, she explains that she can’t make herself orgasm and it’s been a while since she got laid; then Sanji offers his assistance?
Helloooo anon!~ Thanks for waiting for this, I really hope you like it!
Tumblr media
The Sunny’s kitchen was quiet, her captain pleasantly full on deck after having harassed his cook, who was currently standing at the sink washing dishes. A young girl stood beside him, biting the inside of her cheek as she aggressively dried each dish he placed in front of her. She’d been like this for a while, something Sanji had noticed, but had yet to bring up to her.
He continued observing her from the corner of his eye, growing worried by every sigh and huff that came out of her mouth. They were best friends, and he had no idea what could be bothering her. Why wasn’t she coming to him about it? He liked her, more than the other lovely ladies that crossed his path...but he didn’t think he was that obvious. Had he made her uncomfortable?
“Name-san, is everything ok?” Sanji finally asked as she slammed a plate down rather hard in the cupboard and winced. He could see her clenching her jaw as she averted her gaze, causing his anxiety to grow. “You know you can talk to me about anything.”
“I know, Sanji,” She sighed, shaking her head slightly. “It’s not a big deal, don’t worry about it. Sorry about the plate.”
“Hey now, if it’s not a big deal, why not tell me?” He asked lightly, trying to lighten the mood. His curiosity grew as her face flushed slightly.
“It’s...heh, it’s embarrassing, Sanji,” She finally turned to look at him, a small smile on her face that made his heart do a backflip. “It’s not something you talk about in polite conversation.” His brows rose. “Stop, I’m not telling your perverted ass!” She laughed.
“Perverted? Name-swan, when have I ever been perverted?” The look she gave him clearly said “really?” but he continued smiling wide at her, trying to stop his imagination from going wild at what she could possibly be upset about (and thus stemming the inevitable nosebleed that could occur). “Come on, I promise not to make a big deal out of whatever it is.”
“You say that now, but I can see the hearts in your eyes,” she joked, but took a deep breath and answered anyway. “I...it’s been a while…? Since I’ve, uhh...had an orgasm…” she trailed off, face bright red and turning away before she could see his reaction.
Whatever he’d been expecting her to say, that wasn’t quite it. When was she even finding time to have sex? He tried to ignore the sting in his heart, the drop in his stomach, at the thought of her with someone else, but despite his efforts he felt his smile slip.
“I dunno if I just don’t know how to masturbate correctly, or what it is, but it’s like I get so close, and I’m almost there, but then I just...can’t finish, and then it feels like a chore and I get tired, so I just stop,” She clarified when he didn’t answer. “Argh! I don’t know what’s wrong with me...” She finished, leaning on the counter with her head in her hands, face red as a tomato.
Truth be told, Sanji had mostly stopped listening at the word “masturbate”, his thoughts running rampant at the thought of her touching herself. He took a deep breath to stem his usual reaction to such things, but he was unable to stop the erection forming in his pants. He quickly, but discreetly, turned toward the counter before she noticed. When he looked back at her, he realized she was waiting for a response from him, and he was embarrassed to say he didn’t know how long she’d been waiting.
“Uhh, h-how-how long has it been?” He asked, grasping for something to say, trying not to sound too interested in the topic of her sex life. Luckily she didn’t seem to notice anything amiss, and she rolled her eyes in frustration.
“A long ass time,” she half growled out in frustration. “It shouldn’t bother me, but it does, and I’m just having a hard time dealing with it, is all.” Sanji stayed silent for a moment, heart thumping in his chest as he tried to come up with something to say. Even he was surprised by what finally came out of his mouth.
“If you want, Name-san, I could help you…?” Both their eyes widened as they realized what he said, but Sanji didn’t take it back. (Name) giggled a bit.
“Yeah, ok Sanji,” she said sarcastically, not believing he could be serious. He just looked at her, having decided to stand by what he said, even if she rejected him. “Wait...you’re serious?”
“Why not?” He asked, moving away from the counter to step closer to her. Her eyes widened as she fully realized he was truly serious, and she blushed as she tried to come up with a reason why they shouldn’t do what they were about to do.
She couldn’t come up with a single one.
“I...ok, Sanji.” She said, face redder than Franky’s shoulders, unsure of what to do next. They stood there awkwardly for a moment while Sanji fully processed that she said yes. This was happening. He just had to make the move.
Just move, dammit!
She was about to ask how he wanted to go about this when suddenly his lips crashed onto hers, her body responding instantly to him. She kissed him back fervently, pushing all the frustration she’d been building up into her actions, her hands gliding over his jawline into his hair. Sanji ran his hands down her shoulders to her breasts, pushing and squeezing them as he pushed her back against the counter. He left her chest for only a moment, sliding down her waist to grab her ass, then lifting her onto the counter to give himself better access.
Sanji continued to grope her breasts as he kissed under her jaw, pressing against her to grind his growing erection against her crotch. She let out a gasp and wrapped her legs around his waist, creating friction between them that drove Sanji crazy. He stopped when he felt her hands at his waist, ready to pull his shirt free from his pants.
“Not here,” he breathed out, lifting her under her thighs and carrying her down the hall to her room, kissing her all the way. Once inside he quickly shut the door and set her on her feet, allowing her to undo and remove his shirt as he pulled her own shirt over her head. Her bra soon followed, his chef’s fingers making quick work of the clasp as she undid his belt. Before she could work on his pants, Sanji pulled her face in for another searing kiss, forcing her to walk backwards until she fell onto her bed behind her. He kissed down her jaw, her neck, down to her chest, ghosting his lips over her skin as his hands worked at her jeans. He slid them, along with her underwear, down her legs, leaving her bare before him.
Gazing at her naked body, Sanji found himself speechless, paralyzed by the beauty before him. She sat up, kissing him and breaking him from his stupor as she undid his pants and slid them down. Snapping out of it, Sanji’s hands went back to her chest, groping and squeezing and pinching as he sucked at the flesh there, her moans spurring him on.
“Name,” He muttered against her nipple, his breath making goosebumps appear on her skin and causing her to gasp. “Show me how you pleasure yourself.” He licked the hardened, sensitive skin, rolling her other nipple between his fingers as she blushed and let out another short gasp. She hesitated a moment, having never done this in front of someone before, but she was spurred on by his ministrations and slowly lowered her hand from its position in his hair.
Her fingers trailed down his shoulder, his chest, to her stomach, and ever lower, reaching the sensitive bundle of nerves between her legs. Finding her clit, she rolled it between her own fingers, feeling herself growing wet at the combination of her own touch and his kisses on her skin. She trailed lower, rubbing her slit for only a second before inserting a finger, then another, working up a steady rhythm as she fingered herself. Sanji pulled away to watch, hands still at her breasts as he squeezed, pinched, and smushed them together, the sight of her fingers inside her own pussy turning him on more than he thought possible.
He lowered his face to her stomach, kissing her navel softly as he lifted her thighs over his shoulders. She gasped at the better angle this gave her, allowing her fingers to penetrate deeper inside her. She watched him, face flushed and panting, as he kissed lower and lower, one hand on her breast and the other steadying her hip. When she felt his tongue reach her core she practically screamed, the combined sensations sending a jolt through her like she’d never felt before. He kept lapping at her clit, sucking it between his teeth as he drove her closer and closer to climax.
“Fuck!”
She pulled his hair, arching her hips further into his face as she came, breaths shuddering and feeling dizzy. She pulled her fingers out of her, cheeks flushed as she watched him grab her hand to suck her juices off her fingers. When he finished he sent her a look that sent a shiver down her spine, and as he lowered her thighs from around his ears she sat up to look at him closer.
“Do you feel better, Name-swan?” Sanji asked, moving to give her a quick kiss. Instead of answering, she grabbed him by the shoulders, flipping him onto his back as she kissed him. His eyes widened in shock for a moment before he quickly closed them and kissed her back, running his hands over her body as she pulled his boxers off him. Finally naked, Sanji felt his excitement grow as she came back to his level, kissing him rough and settling over him.
Before he could register what she was doing he was inside her, sucking in a sharp breath as she placed her hands on his chest. His hands went to her hips, eyes dazed as he watched her breasts bounce in time with her movements. He thrust his hips to meet hers, grunting with every move, head thrown back as he felt himself grow closer to his own orgasm with every gasp and cry that came from her lips.
With a shuddering groan, Sanji fell over the edge, sitting up to capture her lips as he filled her. She rode him for a second longer, until he was spent, feeling herself come a second time at the feeling. They sat there for a moment, kissing each other softly in between catching their breath, and when they’d both come down from their high she rolled off of him, laying beside him with a big, goofy grin on her face. Sanji felt himself match her expression, leaning over her to kiss her forehead.
“So?” He asked, mood the best it’d been in days. She laughed as she rolled her eyes at him, exasperated but not annoyed.
“I don’t see any reason I should ever have that problem ever again,” she told him, brow raised as a challenging gesture and a smirk on her lips. He matched it, leaning down to mutter against her lips.
“Oh, definitely not, Name-swan.”

Our Son, Arc II, Sunrise, Chapter 4.
Firstly a huge thank you to @missclairebelle who listened to my weird legal ramblings and made good on them, also for her shouty DM's and encouragement on this chapter, her talent is phenomenal across the board. @balfeheughlywed's feedback is so astute, and her support on this fic has been amazing and I just love the bants with her. This Arc is testing me and I was struggling to write anything for a while but I seem to have found a rhythm and that is partly thanks to @ladyviolethummingbird and @laythornmuse writing tips. So thank you!

A horrible feeling of bubbling nausea swirled relentlessly around in my tummy. Jamie's defeated face fixed on me, waiting for a reaction. Any words that were likely to come from my mouth would be so full of venom, that I dared not open it. Not to protect Jamie, it was to stop me sharing anything of my reaction.
"I wouldna leave you for anything Claire" Jamie's eyes beseeched mine, “I had no choice”.
I couldn’t look, wouldn’t let myself meet his eye.
I had inhaled his every word since he woke me an hour before. A lot of it was things I had already known from what Jenny had explained. Right up until the end, when he came to that bit I knew it was bad before he started.
Jamie seldom cried, maybe when Willie was born? I thought absently, apart from that I couldn't think of another time. Now standing on our cold cement door step, as the sun mounted the sky, he pinched his eyes to stem tears from streaming down his face, his cheeks stained with the ones that had already escaped.
I couldn't muster one ounce of sympathy for him, it scared me, complete detachment. My brain was protecting my heart allowing me just numbness for a moment or two.
It gave me the chance to look at him, really look at him as if he was another person's partner. What advice would I give my friend if she had moved herself and her son from their home thousands of miles to set up a life with someone she loved deeply, the father of her child, only to arrive and have he tell you that he actually was moving hundreds of miles away to run another business?
I knew that I would tell her to pick up whatever dignity she had left and run, run, run.
Thoughts of Willie fleeted through my addled brain. How would I tell him? When would we leave?
  “How long?” I asked quietly.
He didn’t speak and I felt the rage boiling in me again, this time now through gritted teeth,
“how fucking long Jamie?”
He sniffed and cleared his throat, "two years as long as it takes to finish it."
“And how long until you go?”
“Claire” he whispered imploringly.
"I need to prepare Willie," I said briskly, ignoring his plea.
“Ten weeks.”
A nod and I was on my feet, brushing myself down. ”Ok”
“Where are ye going?”
“I am not sure,” I replied distractedly looking out at the vast amount of hills and fields I could wander through.
Jamie rose to grab me back. “Alone Jamie, leave me alone.”
______________________
Four hours later with bleak black clouds hovering over me, I found myself at the stables, watching Brian brush down a great big stallion. Methodically covering each inch of the horses back with long even strokes.
He swung around when he heard me approach.
"Just me” I said meekly, wrapping my arms around my waist, suddenly feeling the cold.
Brian's startled expression softened instantly and he looked at me with utter sympathy causing tears filled my eyes abruptly. "Thank god, are ye alright?"
A nod, while I stunk my teeth into my bottom lip. “Fine”.
“He has been out looking for ye twice lass, his temper is frayed enough, I thought he might kill someone if ye dinna return to him soon.
I snorted, but the downturn in my lips made it appear more of a sneer, "when I do go, I won't be leaving on foot", my tone was biting, and I regretted at once using it on Brian but the regret quickly waned when I pictured them all knowing, they knew before me and did nothing. Fuck them all.
Brian's face creased in pity, I couldn't bare it. I turned to leave again not sure of where I would go. "Claire I ken ye are hurting ..."
My voice was brisk now "Brian if it’s all the same to you...I don't want to..."
His hand was firm yet gentle on my shoulder as he turned me, "ye have every right" he said softly. Jamie feared it most of all that it would hurt ye, lassie, ye were his only care, I can promise ye that."
A dense lump climbed up my throat, painfully reminding me that if I spoke it would unleash a sob instead of words. I placed the flat palm of my hand to my forehead but it was too late, tears were coming again. It was as if my eyes were so practiced at it they couldn't stop. I tried breathing in and out deeply, in the hope of bringing back some calmness. Suddenly I could feel Brian's arms folding me into him, holding me to his chest. "Ach Claire...dinna weep a leannan."
That was all it took before big rasping sobs escaped my chest and vibrated against Brian's.
He held me for some time before he gently guided me over to a hay bale and beckoned me to sit, handing me a tissue.
"Claire I dinna ken how much the lad told ye, and I dinna want to make things worse, but I hate to see the two of ye hurting...and I ken Jamie is too"
He looked down at his hands shamefully, "he might even feel worse because it's his fault", sighing deeply, trying to summon up words that could make things a whole lot worse or in the vien hope it might ease some of the pain. "having my own hands soiled in this sorry affair brings me nothing but shame too." he said quietly.
I put my hand over Brian's hand, "It's not your fault" I whispered.
He shook his head avidly, "I should have checked the contract with him, he was under such pressure...I shouldha kent."
I couldn't follow the jumble of words falling from his mouth.
I turned to him now, my brows creased "From the beginning" I said firmly.
A long intake of breath, Brian rubbed his hands nervously up and down his thighs, after tapping his fingers lightly against his thigh for a moment or two, he began to speak slow halting words, "Jamie was trying to secure a deal” hands upturned now in demonstration…he dinna say it but I kent he wanted it for our pensions", another nod and he swallowed "mine and Ellens".
"Since my accident, the lad has been very firm in that he wanted me to retire properly, have a life outside of here, ya ken?"
I bobbed my head receptively, suddenly needing someone to fill in the gaps that I wouldn’t allow myself to ask Jamie. A red mist had blocked any further need for information.
"When the Dunsany's offered him the contract to buy exclusively from Lallybroch...well we thought it too good to be true", "I shouldha fucking known that spineless bastard Dougal could only bring harm on us" he hissed, throwing a piece of straw he had been playing with forcibly to the ground, standing abruptly he began pacing over and back in front of me, temper subdued enough so he could continue. "Jamie saw it as a way to secure Lallybroch's future and allow Ellen and me a healthy pension to retire on.
They offered us a large amount of money to secure the right to exclusively buy any stock that was bred and raised here at Lallybroch. If there was stock, they had a need of, and  we dinna have it here, the contract included provisions for Jamie to buy on their behalf, train the animal and sell it on to the Dunsany's."
Another slight tilt of my head acknowledging my understanding.
Brian ran his hands along the edge of a stable door, pausing over grooves with his long fingers considering. "They drew up the contracts a few months ago, but Jamie held off on signing…it was something he was thinking on. Then the stud got that virus, the poor lad was day and night with them, trying to keep the infection at bay. He missed yer birthday on the head of it.
  "I remember," I said hoarsely.
“He returned from his last trip to Boston, and he had decided he would sign”.
Brian looked imploringly at me now.
"We were still reeling from nearly losing all our livestock if it hadna been for Jamie’s quick thinking…” he trailed off, and smiled meekily at me “for the first time we realised just how vulnerable we were…" He tilted his head shyly ", and I know now that Jamie had asked ye to marry him on that trip…so the lad had his plans too."
My heart fluttered in my chest, and fresh tears slid down my cheeks. So much hope and now it was snuffed out. Thinking of the stress, Jamie must have been under yet he flew to me in Boston proposing during it all. My thoughts must have been apparent on my face because Brian's face softened "it puts things in perspective lass, Jamie was fair desperate to see ye."
I wiped a stray tear from my face. "That is when Jamie signed the contract," he said sorrowfully, "When he came back from Boston" Brian pressed his bottom lip into his mouth and shook his head dejectedly.
"There was no reason to think the worst of them...it all seemed above board”.
"This trip was just to iron out the specifics, work out what stock they would need over the coming months, talk to them about what Mares were in foal, breeds, that kind of thing,"
Brian ruffled the thick black hair on top of his head, and it struck me how not only alike Jamie was to him but Willie too, absently thinking the Frasers had strong genes. "Then last night they turned around and said they wanted Jamie to oversee this big expansion at Hellwater!”
My mind suddenly was in the drawing room watching this nightmare unfold, and I idiotically could see Geneva Dunsany, leering gleefully in a corner because she knew all along they had this trick up their sleeve.
Brian's foot started tapping agitatedly, "Jamie refused outright…said there was no way, and then they drew their sword." He finished bleakly.
My heart started hammering fast in my chest, I hadn't let Jamie explain earlier, he had looked at me, eyes empty and said "they have the power to shut us down if I dinna go Claire", I hadn't cared then what justifications he thought he had.
To up and leave after I had given everything up to come to be with him. He had never been able to leave before when I needed him.
I didn't want to hear it from Jamie, but now in the cold light of day and Brian's sad face before me, I had to learn the full truth whether I wanted to or not.
"There were small clauses built into the contract Jamie signed; what he thought were insignificant details, they are using them against us Claire."
I opened my mouth to ask, had he not sought legal advice? could we fight these contracts?  The resignation of Brian's face somehow told me there was little hope for any of that.
Brian sat down beside me again, putting his big hand over mine, “He has a huge talent, clever man when it comes to farming, horses, even business..but Jamie has a kind heart…he never wouldha thought that people would be capable of being so underhand.”
"What are the clauses?" my voice sounded cold, I didn't mean it. I was trying to protect myself from something, and I wasn't even sure what.
“The Dunsany’s have exclusive rights to buy our stock, and they may take up to 180 days to decide if they want them and are entitled to the first refusal." They made it clear that if Jamie decided not to go to Hellwater, they would apply that right on every horse they look at. Even though last night they told us it would be their intention not to buy any. It means we wouldna be legally allowed to pursue another sale…for some time."
Brian's head bent slowly, and he appeared for the first time as if he might breakdown himself. "the second clause is we canna sell within 200 miles of Hellwater Claire. They effectively can make it so we willna be able to sell our stock to anyone that could offer us a competitive price and by the time ye take in the delay they can impose on such a sale…well ye may as well close us down now.”
Brian’s head dropped and he clasped his hands together “I ken ye are angry with him and it willna help him for me to say this to ye but Ellen and I dinna want him to give into them…”
He sat up straight now, pride in his voice when he spoke again “Jamie isna an ordinary man, he was born to lead, and he saw hundreds of years of work by our kin about to be robbed by those bastards, and I knew we could argue all night, it wouldna mattered, he will sacrifice himself to help us.”
I said nothing, the stillness in the stables, grew thick.
Brian's choked voice broke the silence, "It kills me, my son has to do this Claire…I would do anything so he mightn't have to but he willna leave us without a home or business, and we canna persuade him otherwise."
I wiped the dust from my thighs and stood up.
"I am so sorry a Leannan" he said quietly.
I squeezed Brian's shoulder as he stood, pulling me to him and embracing me without another word. "We will be yer home still?” his face searching mine. I realised that they had just got used to the idea of Willie living here.
“I don’t know…Jamie doesn’t even know how often he is likely to be able to get home…and I would never go to him there…not now especially." I replied flatly.
It was only then I heard rustling behind me that I realised Jamie stood watching me with hollow eyes, taking in the sight of my red and tear-streaked face and his father's arms around my shoulders comforting me, something I hadn't allowed him to do.
