it’s been almost a year now… is the bg3 fandom finally ready to talk about how gale’s “hubris” is the sole product of actively feeding his insecurities further and straight up denying him help & guidance when he was at his lowest and needed it most. it’s not one of his core traits and never was. he isn’t some closeted power hungry monster that is just waiting to be enabled. what he wants is admiration, recognition and acceptance. which is also what he sought from mystra before the orb disaster happened. he had no desire whatsoever to become a god himself or challenge her rule, he simply wanted to be seen as sufficient in her eyes (“to serve her better”). to be as equal as he could possibly be in a relationship with a literal deity. he has a deep passion for magic and knowledge that affects almost all areas of his life and enjoys the display thereof. he wants to be the smartest person in the room and enjoys when his work is recognized. he may be perceived as arrogant when it comes to his skill, but he IS NOT hubristic. it truly takes so little for him to be wholly content.

The titles for the magnus protocol episodes that have come out so far seem... deliberate. First we have 'first shift', which could be seen to use 'shift' in the meaning of 'work hours'; it's Sam's first day at the OIAR. But it could also mean 'shift' as in movement or change; the first signs that the fears are shaping this world, 'shifting' it from how it is supposed to be. Then the two next titles, 'making adjustments' and 'putting down roots', are both describing actions. Hinting that the fears are already establishing themselves within the new world and beginning to reshape it.

actually i think it's interesting that practically everyone's interpretation of valentino is that he has severe substance abuse issues & is high 50% of the time, when in the show he's shown disparagingly talking about addicts in a way that implies he doesn't see himself as one. and i'm not using "interesting" as a substitute for "oh boy do i fucking hate this" i just genuinely think it's fascinating. the juxtaposition of him looking down on addicts while refusing to acknowledge his own substance abuse problems is direly under explored and it's like, Right There. it's prime character study material

God, I really can't believe I finally finished this fanart. Despite all the unforeseen problems that my life has thrown at me, it’s finally ready😅

I’ll be sincere, I wasn’t very happy with the fourth season and how it ended, but it still gave me a couple of ideas for art.

When I saw Cate Dunlap from gen V the idea came to me. Seriously, why be so wasteful in terms of unaliving characters when you can just brainwash them?

The way dark magic can use parts of a sapient being without their knowledge or consent. The way Claudia could track down Rayla with a piece of her hair and Rayla didn’t even realise that was what was happening, how she thought the lights were cute and tickled…

The way it reminds me of those “if you’ve nothing to hide, you’ve nothing to fear” type arguments when it comes to the surveillance state. How parts of you (your data, your DNA) can be stored away until it is useful to those who might want to control you.

All to say, I am having the most fun with my dark magic AU.
