i've been reading alice echols' cultural feminism: feminist capitalism and the anti-pornography movement, an essay linked in this post and contemplating the ground that movements ostensibly directed towards liberation inevitably cede to oppressive structures, in this case capitalism, but what interests me more is an essay cited by echols, namely the personal is not political enough by one elizabeth fox-genovese. now this is a piece i'm going to have to track down at some point, because it touches upon a phrase that has been rendered utterly meaningless by contemporary cultural feminism (i've clearly imbibed a bit of that essay into my vocabulary). besides that i'm quite curious as to why race isn't mentioned even in passing in echols' essay.

FitnessInfluencer!Reader x GymBro!Ghost
so i’ve recently really gotten into going to the gym and i can’t stop thinking about Ghost working out and reader being an annoying influencer that is always recording at the gym. the last thing he needs is a camera in his face when he is trying to work out and de-compress from his deployment.
After finally finding a 24 hour gym, you get your things ready to film your content. Your youtube channel is one of the most popular nowadays, and it’s the platform where you make most of your videos. Most of them teach people workout series, ranging from stuff they can do at home, hardcore exercises and even a step to step guide on how to use each gym equipment, so newbies don’t get scared of training for the first time by themselves. However, sometimes, you do some vlogging on the side, showing your daily routine and other things, like skincare.
You figure 3 am is a good time to go to the gym and record - no one is at training by then and your schedule is already fucked anyways. Not having an office or regular work hours has its ups and downs, but at least you are in charge of own routine, since you make a surprisingly good amount of money from your videos.
You take your own time, making a protein smoothie (and obvioulsy recording it, as you had a paid partnership with the supplement’s brand) and writing down your ideas for the video you want to do today. You stick to a simple “leg day” vlog, typing on your phone what machines and reps you want to do.
Choosing a simple purple top and matching leggings, you make your way towards the gym on your Range Rover, Stanley cup filled with water on the cup holder. You roll your eyes as you make a turn and can feel the water dripping out of the cup. You make a note to yourself to bring a water bottle the actually works next time and keep it off camera, so the useless cup can just sit on frame for aesthetic purposes while your record.
If you had to point out one thing you hated about your job, it would be having to keep up with all the (in your opinion, useless) trends, so you could reach a bigger audience. At the end of the day, it was about making money, although you loved how your content got to inspire people to be more active. If it meant you had to carry a metal 40oz lead poisoned cup with you for a couple of hours, then so be it.
As soon as you park your car at the gym’s empty parking lot, you pull out your vlog camera, not noticing the single black truck parked in the far corner, under a tree.
Sometimes you wonder if you would hate your “vlog persona” if you met her in real life. Repeating the same phrases over and over again, trying to get the best take, constantly looking for better lighting. What looks good on camera, in real life, just looks painfully awkward sometimes, specially when you are talking to an audience that isn’t even there. You push those thoughts to the back of your head, as you slide your card at the gym’s card reader, opening the doors.
“Anyways, guys. I know it sounds crazy right?” You make your way into the gym, re-recording the introduction at least 3 times so you know you’ll have good material to edit later. “Training at 3 a.m. I don’t even know if it’s technically morning or night right now.” You joke to the camera. “Let me know in the comments if I should start the videos with ‘Good morning’ or ‘Goodni’-“ a hand suddenly grabs the camera from your hand, holding it right above your head. You stare at the man who seemed to materialise out of the shadows.
“How about ‘Goodbye’.” He says, and you barely have time to register his sarcasm as he slams your camera on the floor, breaking it in pieces. You stand there, frozen, while the man swings his duffel bag over his shoulders and heads out of the gym.
When you finally regain your senses, he is long gone, and you’re left wondering to yourself, not only who he is, but also who does he think he is. You barely had time to register what he looked like, simply recalling we was well over 6ft tall and build like a fucking tank. But regardless of his built, if he believes, even for a second, that he can do something like that and just walk away unscathed, he is dead wrong.
You can’t wait to see him again.
A.N: wrote this with my eyes literally closing, but i just couldn’t get it out of my head (sorry for any mistakes, def not proofread). hopefully it’s not complete shit. let me know if you want to see more of this! i could see this becoming either a short series or at least having one more part. Let me know if you want to be tagged if this has a part 2 :)

I’d like for you to know how often I look forward to reading your posts, for they are incredibly insightful and neatly noted. I’m certain many would agree with these sentiments. please do keep up the amazing work! I hope your New Year will bring you a series of wonderfully memorable events ~ !
Hello love! Thank you so much for the support and taking the time to write that note down, it makes me very happy. 🤭💗
Mercury in the 6th house
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We find one of the best positions for Mercury, since being in this house, it favors the native with a surprising intellect and eye for detail. They don't miss anything, they have an analytical, active mind, even restless at times. They enjoy a good mental challenge and always seem willing to learn from those things that spark their curiosity. These natives are usually excellent at planning, managing details and solving problems. Likewise, they can fall into the multi-talented archetype, since they can develop many different skills throughout their life, due to their need to stay busy and know how to do things on their own. They may have particular talent for design, writing, any type of communication, drawing and other activities where precision is necessary. They have an aptitude for learning new skills, including those that are job-related. These natives are willing to acquire new knowledge and continually improve their abilities of all kinds, and can be very perfectionist and demanding of themselves. They are very good people at planning, and very rarely go unnoticed, because they seem to be one step ahead... or simply because of their observation skills they can accurately predict the actions of others or the outcome of things.
They have the ability to handle multiple tasks at once and often put themselves under a lot of stress by wanting to do too much at the same time. Although it is worth mentioning that natives with this placement are usually efficient and capable of managing several responsibilities simultaneously. There is a tendency to be meticulous and careful in their work. People with this position seek precision and avoid mistakes. They stand out for being people who tend to approach problems rationally and look for practical solutions, they dislike unnecessary drama and to beat around the bush. They are prone to nervous system conditions, anxiety, having problems sleeping, and/or dealing with a lot of stress throughout their lives. I have seen both cases, from being either very careful with the issue of health or forgetting to take care of yourself due to your multiple responsibilities. They may feel great interest in topics of self-improvement, personal care, health, animals, environmental preservation, exercise, and both physical and mental health.
They can stand out a lot in the school and work environment, especially in the latter, as they can be workers with excellent ethics and who constantly look for workshops or other ways to work and perfect their skills. They may work in a place with a lot of gossip. If Mercury is well aspected, it is very likely that you will have a cordial relationship with your co-workers, while if it makes tense aspects to Pluto, Neptune or Mars, aggressive communication or rivalry is likely to be common. Even if they know how to work in a team, they usually prefer to do it on their own, as bad experiences with teamwork can be common, making them feel that only by working on their own they reduce the margin of error and ensure that they will not be rushed in the deadline. It is worth mentioning that although they know how to work well under pressure, they would prefer not to do so in the first place. They are objective people who listen carefully and investigate before speaking, they hate jumping to conclusions and prefer to give their opinion once they know everything about a certain situation. Their advice is very useful and, although they only pretend to be practical or state the obvious, they end up saying just what the other person needs to put their feet on the ground or better understand a certain situation.

I don't know anywhere near enough about Sanguinius to metaphorically crochet him into a little finger puppet for my primarch fics but how about a little baseless speculation about him and Fulgrim? Please note that this is all based on how I view them in the universe of my silly little stories and is in no way a claim about knowing how they are in canon / lore.
I would probably a) portray Sanguinius as a genuinely sweet adorable cinnamon roll too precious for this world and b) have Fulgrim utterly loathe him because of this.
I tend to write Fulgrim as being a pleasant and charming person who, deep down, is about 50% a deeply broken overthinking ultra-perfectionist and 50% really jealous and vindictive. Please understand that this isn't me saying he's just evil and always was because it really really isn't. It's entirely possible for someone with these traits to function perfectly well in society and not be a bad person in any meaningful sense.
However.
One of his formative experiences as a primarch was almost losing his entire legion due to the Blight corrupted geneseed that almost wiped them out right at the start.
He had to build them up himself from nothing with the constant threat of annihilation both in the sense that "if I fuck up a war and lose however-many thousand Astartes in a terrible accident on the double-ended dildo planet I have no reserves or replacements" and also "every use of our geneseed is a gamble against the horrific mutation coming back and destroying us all over again". In that context the solution he turns to, and the only one that probably makes sense based on his prior experience on Chemos, is perfection.
Make no mistakes, ever, anywhere, because the cost of failure is incalculable, even if it means committing science-treason so you can purge all weakness from your own space dudes. It's not a desire for perfection based on arrogance, although he is of course immensely arrogant in a lot of ways, but one motivated deep down by fear.
People like to clown on Fulgrim based on Jaghatai's infamous "I hear you do strange things to your warriors 😂👌" sick burn, but to be honest, viewed from his context, what Fulgrim's doing is somewhat understandable.
That is if we assume that the Khan isn't just making a cheap insult but rather is implying he knows a lot more than would be preferable about Fabius dicking around with Astartes genetics in order to detect and eliminate carriers of the corrupted gene-seed so that the III Legion, one of the smallest of all numerically, can still survive. And then a lot of other things too because, like Fabius could believably say in one of the weirder McNeill stories, forbidden science is akin to the ancient Terran delicacy known as Pringles. Once you pop you can't stop.
With that in mind it feels like a lot of Fulgrim's post-heresy actions, not just the snake orgies but the general distance and lack of care for his sons, comes from revelling in just finally being free of that level of stress and pressure weighing down on him at all times. Even Perturabo doesn't withdraw from the Iron Warriors that much and he's a dick.
Anyway, back to pre-heresy days. He has all this going on and then in comes Sanguinius with his giant fucking angel wings who everyone loves and who turned his legion into One Direction (not really but you know... perceptions vs reality and no one in this setting actually communicates with one another since they'd probably have a lot in common regarding fears of being mutants etc)
It's the kind of thing that I think would feel like a dagger in the heart to someone like Fulgrim. Directly highlighting and literally embodying all of his fears about mutation and imperfection and yet somehow appearing to get away with it while he has to exercise constant control and do horrible things simply in order for his legion to exist.
So for that reason I think he would absolutely hate Sangy and do everything he could to undermine him.
"Oh no, brother! I've accidentally spilled this entire Big Gulp cup of bright red Tizcan wine all over your beautiful white wings, and only moments before you were due to make a speech to ten million people about how wonderful the Imperium is! Let me help you clean it up."
And then he pulls out a Looney Tunes sized bottle labelled Fabius's Finest Molt-O-Matic Guaranteed Feather Remover and starts spraying it on him.

Ok, unsolicited rant, I’m sorry in advance. I used to love reading when I was a kid, and read frequently and often. I read a lot and I read books that I wouldn’t be able to understand now, like Anna Karenina when I was 12 (I am a native Russian speaker so it’s not that impressive but still) and a lot of Thomas Mann when I was 17-18.
It’s all gone now. I became extremely picky, but also it seems to be harder for me to understand books now? Like I’ve been trying to read “demons”, “Oliver twist”, “Ulysses” - too hard, and I can’t concentrate and in case of demons there are so many ideas and historical tidbits that I have to sit with Wikipedia and a notebook. And yes, as a kid I would have checked certain things and be able to hold a connection in my memory without a notebook (although I’m not sure if I would have done that with demons in particular, I’m bad at Dostoevsky and hated “crime and punishment”). And it doesn’t matter whether I’m reading in Russian or in English. I almost got it with Arundhati Roy’s “the god of small things”, then there was a very upsetting and triggering scene and I had to put it down.
And if I try to get into something nicer and easier my picky side comes out and I just drop books one after the other. Murderbot diaries and the Locked tomb were the only two books series that captivated me in two years.
Anyway I miss that soothing state of being engrossed with a book. And I so rarely get it now! So I wanted to ask, do you maybe have some advice? I saw your book stack and felt both envy and fear, like I both wanted to read and didn’t. Yikes.
And also, I can still read fic and your fics got me through terrible time and soothed me! So thank you!!!
Aha well. I will say that my current monumental book stack is not technically the norm for me, though I do usually have 3-4 books on the hard-working bedside table and read for several hours every night. Said giant book stack was a confluence of factors (picking up a bunch of holds from the library after asking the people for book recommendations and then going to the bookstore yesterday and hilariously telling myself that I would only get one book max). So it's not like I have ginormous amounts of TBR at all times, and in that giant stack, there are likely to be several books that don't grab me, are not particularly interesting, or technically good and well-written but just not engaging with the Brain Gremlins at this particular point in time. So I will put them down and move onto the next one, and this will keep me from being bogged down, because why read if you're not enjoying it/yourself/the book? It's not a punishment or a character-building ordeal. It's supposed to be fun, and if you're reading things that, as noted in your ask, just aren't grabbing you and feel like a chore, then stop! Find something else that makes the Brain Gremlins go ooooh shiny, regardless of what it is. It doesn't have to be Fine Literature.
I also had to get back into the habit of reading for pleasure, and it took me time and effort to do it due to various external circumstances. From about 2015-19, while I was doing my PhD, I had less than no money and absolutely no spare brainpower, so while I did have a few books that I collected along the way, I barely did any reading for pleasure at all (though I did do a frankly alarming amount of writing, including fic writing). Looking back, that seems insane to me, but it was something that had to change step by step, and it wasn't as if I just finished the PhD and went straight back into pleasure reading. I moved back to the US in 2019 and had a part-time job at a bookstore, which was very dangerous for my minimum-wage paycheck, but it did get me back into the habit of looking at books and reading books and being able to take home advanced-reader copies for free and otherwise start exercising that muscle again. I didn't have a library as an option for quite a while because I was living in a tiny town, then COVID hit, then I moved to another tiny town, where there was at least finally a modest public library at my disposal. But it took time.
Now I live in a city with a great public library where I can get almost anything I want, and I went accordingly hog-wild, but if you don't have readily available reading resources, obviously it's hard to get your hands on stuff that you like and will make the brain gremlins go brrrr. There are some public libraries that offer cards/user privileges even to people who don't live in the geographical area, especially if you are a young adult. Check out Books Unbanned by the Brooklyn, Boston, Seattle, and San Diego (US) libraries, which aims to provide access to ebooks and other digital collection items for young adults facing challenges to access, regardless of where they live. You can get a card up to age 18 from San Diego, age 21 in Brooklyn, and up to 26 for Boston/Seattle.
I also now have a little more disposable income, so I can buy books if I want to, though it's true that I also bought books when I couldn't really afford them (shh). But it's still the fact of my access to a good public library that enables me to have stacks on stacks rotating through the bedside table, and I use it constantly, so there's that. I'm of course very glad to hear that you can still read fic and that you have enjoyed my stuff, but I do also feel that you have to read fic AND books/published writing/stuff that's not fic. So the best way to get back into the habit is by practicing, not forcing yourself into stuff that isn't fun or feels like a slog, and finding a place where you can consistently obtain other stuff that's good for sparking joy. That is not the case for everyone, it will impact what you are able to do, and you should not feel like you have to do some kind of "good" reading model, especially since a lot of people seem to think that what you read is directly representative of your intelligence, moral character, or some other important part of you, and it's not. Humans like stories, the end. We like being given stories, fiction or nonfiction, in a format that we can digest and understand, and we always have. It's that simple.
Basically, I feel like reading for pleasure should indeed be fun, I love reading for pleasure and encourage everyone to do more of it, I now am fortunate to be able to do it extensively, and it has taken work of various kinds to get to that point where I can in fact just set myself up with a ginormous stack and dive in. As noted, however, if any of the books currently on hand are boring or just not doing it for me, I will move onto the next one, because the fun thing is that there are always more. So yes. Go forth and read. Good luck.

"I'm not going to get into that college"
First and foremost, minjae understands the pressure to get into a certain college in order to please your parents. But you wanna know whats more important? Why do you wanna go? Other than pleasing your parents. After a long talk and cuddle, you should come into a better sense of whether or not college is something you want to do. But either way, you should always believe in yourself! ♡
"I don't have many followers"
Junmin's going to take away your phone. Not because you did something bad, but so you can take a break. Go outside, turn on do not disturb and take a walk with your lovely boyfriend. Its a win-win for you, him, and his dogs. A win-win-win, technically ♡
"I don't have a good fashion sense"
As someone who likes to dress a certain way, sumin knows what its like, but he has a tip; dress for you. When you wear things that make you happy, you often forget about the others around you, and their opinions. It also helps you stand out from the crowd. Wear what you like ♡
"I cant do any better"
Grabbing both of your hands, jinsik will give them a tight squeeze in front of the mirror, making you repeat the same mantras every morning. They may feel silly at first, but over time they help you convince yourself that you are worthy of whatever you desire ♡
"I dont have many friends"
First, hyunwoo will talk about the importance of friends. Friends that help you grow to become the better you and give you a good laugh. Friends that would never judge you for their own benefit. That being said, you need to eliminate the ones that dont actually care for you. Worry less about the quantity, and more about the quality. Who cares if you only have 3 friends? As long as youre happy and growing, thats all that matters ♡
"I'm not pretty enough"
Beauty is subjective. You may be insecure about one thing, but junghoon, 9 times out of 10, finds it really stinking cute. But what he feels doesnt matter, what others think doesnt matter. How you think matters!! So stop worrying about other peoples eyes and work on your inner self. If youre happy.. youre at peace, and if youre at peace, you start to smile. And thats very attractive ♡
"I'm not that smart"
"Why dont you think youre smart?" Seeun would ask, his chin resting against his hand. "Why do you want to be smart?" These questions may be dumb but they have meaning. We all have the ability to learn something. After all, life is about experiencing things and growing from it. It all just takes time, so dont stop believing in yourself, 'kay? ♡
"No one will miss me when im gone"
Although you may feel alone and think no one would care, yujun would care. Yujun would always care. But, stop worrying about the future, you know? Live your life in the present with no regrets. Every moment spent worrying is a moment spent not really living. When you obsess over that type of stuff, you are missing out on whats in front of you. And when you miss that, you wont realize the people who love and support you ♡
"I feel overweight"
Hunter will take you to the gym, but not just so you become 'thin' and everyone will accept you, to focus on being healthy, mentally healthy too. Focus on getting in shape with a well balanced diet and exercise program. Hunter will help! ♡
"People talk behind my back"
"Do you know that for sure??" Yechan would ask, poking his fork in his salad. "Because most of the time, its just an imaginary conversation you have in your head. Stop worrying what other people think and focus on your well being. But what you said is true, expect to see me at your school." He finishes, shooting you an innocent smile ♡

'Smiths' can encompass enginesmiths (mercury), armoursmiths (mars), alchemists (saturn) and some others - generally a smith is someone who works with engines or metal in any capacity, whether by constructing them, managing their fuel, making armour, etc. all of them have a completely degendered role in the church. They are supposed to be wholly devoted to their craft & church, to the point of becoming almost unpeople, sexless.

I like pantera :) he's the main character beast sure (alongside leun) but he's got a lot of interesting history and has been through a lot.
To start out I do some basic sketches while looking at bestiary diagrams of the animal type. Then I draw the base proportions over a photo of the animal's skeleton. Once the joints are all in place and I could imagine it moving relatively freely, I pick a motif and design the armour shapes with that in mind (i.e leun's trefoils, taurus's waves). The motifs come from a bunch of sources - if I see them in medieval art around that animal, the beast's use purpose, the culture that built them and how it might differ in art styles to the 'basic' designs from the heart of the Mezian theocracy. Fun stuff like that.
As an exercise I have taken (human) characters from other settings and made holy beast versions of them, trying to imagine what animal it would be, what weapons, what armour designs, etc. Behold, Bowman:

It's a fun exercise! I recommend :>

Hi! Thank you for the suggestion! I actually did try to use OneNote for my thesis but I found that it ended up an extra step that got in the way. Instead I organised my reference papers manually (and wrote up all my bibliography by hand as well). I haven't heard of Notion so I might look into it :> as someone with adhd I find that the best way for me is to make it stupid easy, which is why discord works because I already use it for talking with friends and I like the mobile app.

Tumblr media
SO true!! You can make whatever the hell you want forever and that sounds really cool, I'm glad I was able to help in some little way >:) (although, holy beasts are not robots.. i think the best description for them is just. exotic vehicles.)

Tumblr media Tumblr media
lmao it's totally fine!! I love to talk
Sir Heaven had such a profoundly negative experience with Leun that he struggles with the concept of making anybody else do what he now considers to be his burden. He also feels that taking any new people inside Leun would endanger them.
The bishop of Salvius cathedral is the guy Heaven answers to, and his superior officer. The bishop has reported the matter to the pope and they're still working hard presenting new potential novices to Sir Heaven, but the thing is that Sir Heaven rejects them for seemingly valid reasons. He doesn't just say 'no I'm not taking apprentices', he says 'this one's reaction speed isn't good enough' or 'this one is too prideful'. But the longer he tries to keep this up, the more suspicion he heaps on his shoulders. If the time came, no, he would not be able to deny a direct order from the pope.
Ketjan was selected at random, one of a large group of other children who were not raised in the church. This is to ensure that there is no per-existing bias or knowledge of how holy beasts work. And he just happened to be the only one of the group who could master Leun's very demanding dialogue tattoo. The recruiting enginesmiths, who designed Leun's systems, were the ones to train him, but Ketjan was the one to write most of the procedures for operating Leun based on feedback from the dialogue.

@ospreyonthemoon @kicks-tiktaalik-back-into-water
Krokodilos had an amazing high-tech ventilation system that used active air pumps to keep it circulating. But exactly like the second reply says, it broke down frequently. And because of how it worked, the interior of croc had to be air-tight so that the pumps could work efficiently. And, of course, if it broke down, and it was air tight on the inside, it instantly became a more dangerous deathtrap than your average passively ventilated beast.
There were valves that could be opened in an emergency but these were only added after the first Incident. The pumps would break down from the fabric seals degrading, lose efficacy, and then the parts furthest from the pumps would suddenly not get enough air anymore because air couldn't be moved such a distance with faulty pumps. The reason his enginesmiths want him to be re-commissioned is because the only barrier was the material used for the seals, and they believe they can innovate some new materials or try something different and have it work. They were even thinking of trying natural rubber, which would have worked perfectly, but they never got approval for it.

being a good man ✒︎ m.knies
Tumblr media
summary: the next chapter of your relationship with Matthew is clearly going to be difficult but looking back at the previous chapters may be enlightening enough
featuring: matthew knies x gn!reader
word count: 2.1k
warnings: none
note: apart from wearing a camisole (which isn’t really anything) i don’t think there is anything that could imply that reader identifies as a specific gender so i’m tentatively putting this as gender neutral.
dedication: this sweet little one shot was written for elle (@gravestrain) for demi's summer fic exchange! i thoroughly hope you enjoy this - i will give you a little disclaimer and ask you exercise a little kindness/caution and read this all with a grain of salt, it's my first time writing for matty.
and a little side dedication to thank demi (@wyattjohnston) for hosting this awesome event.
Tumblr media
You and Matthew had been talking about going on some kind of holiday over the summer. Something for just the both of you and to celebrate the fact that not only had he had his NHL debut in the playoffs no less, but also that you were on track to graduate in the major of your choice with a dream job prospect on the horizon.
You had both travelled with friends and their significant others before. You had also heard your friends speak highly of weekend trips and holidays they had been on with their significant others. Your little group of friends kept questioning if you and Matt would ever go on a trip alone, especially now that he was going off to play in the major league. Both of you had brushed off the thought of even doing it, deciding it would be a graduation thing, yet your plans were shifting. Something you had accepted when you agreed to date Matt; you knew that his goals were the NHL, and you supported him entirely. Coming in at a close second to his parents in being proud of him when he got signed for the playoffs.
You had met in your first year at university through a mutual friend, and even though you were sceptical about being friends with him, you put faith in your friend that they were friends with good people. And Matt was better than good people. You’d even go as far as to say he’s close to being one of the best people.
Even though you were hesitant to even accept his invite to mini golf that one night after midterms. He had waited outside until your last midterm with a small box of chocolates and a handwritten note. Clearly, someone had helped him out. His sweet face was haunted with nerves, or maybe that was obvious from the fact he was pacing a hole into his shoes on the concrete. Or perhaps you knew he was riddled with insecurity because you’d been watching him for nearly five minutes as he furiously mumbled to himself a very obviously pre-planned speech to the point where he hadn’t noticed the rest of your classmates or yourself emerge from the building.
When you had eventually interrupted his nervous rambling, he had barely managed to get the invite out. Still, you were happy when the words finally left his mouth. And you were happier with just the two of you that evening, getting to know one another. What made it better was that it didn’t end with just one dinner and plastic putts. Although he was busy not only with his studies but being part of the hockey team, he still managed to make time for you and growing your relationship. He was in this wholeheartedly, which made it so easy for you to fall in deep the way you did.
With all the changes in both your lives, you could barely stop to count what had changed and stayed the same. But with Matt’s professional career starting, you knew that it meant that even though he would be returning to Toronto, you still had classes waiting for you in Minnesota. This was somewhere you couldn’t follow him and cheer from the sidelines. Considering for the entire duration of your relationship, you’d always been in the same state, this was bound to be a big challenge for your relationship, and you wanted to set it up for success in any way you could. You had both planned to spend as much time as you could together before the new academic year and the NHL season began, and you would both suddenly have other responsibilities and less time to see one another.
You stayed in Minnesota after the spring semester had ended to spend some time with your family before spending the rest of your summer with Matt. You had gone on a family trip to Cancún, a trip which you’d taken many times when you were much younger but stopped around the same time you had started preparing for university. The reminder of one of your favourite childhood memories made you realise just how far you’d come. Your parents had called it an early graduation present, of which you had argued you still needed something to look forward to next year. They’d reminded you that even though you would always have their support and could always fall back on them when you needed it, your life was about to become everything you had been dreaming about and working towards for the last couple of years was finally all coming together.
Mexico had treated you well, but while you’d be lounging on the beach and exploring the city, the hot weather had demanded bare shoulders. Bare shoulders demanded more attention to sunblock reapplication, which slipped your mind in some afternoons at the pool and lunchtime picnics. The sensitivity of your shoulders and arms now and the dulling throb, whenever too much pressure touched you was the consequence of your enjoyment. Matt was a happy listener when you got downtown at night to speak with him;. However, he joked about it when you whined; the look of mild concern was ever present whenever the burns were mentioned.
It was only after returning to Matt after saying goodbye to your family at the airport and flying from Mexico to Arizona instead of home that the holiday conversation came up again. It was during, what had become, an average night since you’d been staying with the Knies family, with you and Matt making dinner together. Matt’s main responsibility whilst in the kitchen was helping you reach for things that caused too much grief to your still-healing burns. You couldn’t help but praise him for being such a good little sous chef for you. It wasn’t that he wasn’t great in the kitchen, he could do enough to keep himself fed, but you were sure you’d taught him a thing or two since he’d started actually helping instead of being a pro-taste tester as he had declared himself initially. Even if he didn’t take any of the recipes or skills to Canada with him, the time you spent together was so much more important to you.
The holiday suggestion (read: declaration) came as an offhanded mention that the flights were booked and all you had to do was pack your bags accordingly. Your hands momentarily stopped stirring the sauce, turning to face Matt where he stood by the counter, picking at the leftover cake you’d both baked the night before. His eyes weren’t even on you as he spoke, it wasn’t until your silence had clearly made him uncomfortable (maybe a little insecure), and it was then when he finally looked up at you as he threw a piece of cake into his mouth. His face had the same unsure look as it had been all those years ago. The little reminder of how you came to be in this very moment had your heart fluttering already.
“Stop snacking, you’ll ruin your appetite,” You chided as you took a breath and turned the stove down before turning around to fully face your boyfriend; wooden spoon pointed at him, “Pack my bags to … where?”
When the word Iceland came out, your face was a vision of surprise and confusion. You didn’t even have to ask before his slightly panicked but clearly excited rambles quickly flowed out his mouth. His words very softly trailed off as he simply motioned over to your bare shoulders where the small straps of your camisole exposed them; the slight sheen of the soothing cream and aloe he had demanded her help spread over them shining in the light.
“Thought I’d spare you from blistering for all of the summer break,” He muttered, almost shyly, as he added the vegetable to the sauce as you had instructed him to before he had brought the trip up.
A gentle warmth filled your chest and washed over your cheeks at the thoughtfulness of your boyfriend. Quickly checking, the pan was still simmering away, and the vegetables were slowly cooking; you stepped over to him. Arms gently wrapped around him and giving him a firm squeeze when his arms reciprocated the action.
“When did you decide on Iceland?”
“Well, you’ve always wanted to go, and it just seemed like the right time,” The sheepish look on his face told you that there was definitely more to the story than just that, so you pulled away, resting back in his arms as you looked up at him with a slight raise of your brow, “I started looking around the first time you mentioned you’d got sunburnt.”
A light laugh left your mouth as you pulled his back towards you before pushing him away, gently squeezing his cheeks, “You’re precious,” You set yourself back up by the range, sorting out the sauce before taking it off the heat.
“How quiet you’re being is making me a little nervous here,” A wispy laugh left him, clearly riddled with nerves as he watched you start to plate everything up ready for dinner, “Mum helped plan it, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“Oh Matty,” You cooed, looking back towards him with an adoring smile, “I’m not worried about anything – I’m just…trying to process.”
“Process?”
“No one’s ever done something so … elaborate for me before?” The words were uttered softly as you grabbed a handful of knives and forks and handed them over to him as you continued, “I don’t know what to say.”
“Perhaps ‘Yes, I’ll go with you.’ might work?” His suggestion only made you laugh again as you took him in. His forehead was slightly creased with an inkling of worry as his hand fiddled with the silverware you had placed in his hands.
The domesticity of your entire situation filled you with joy, and the words that had left Matt’s mouth swirled in your head like a hurricane. His kindness and gentleness with you throughout your entire time together. How patient and considerate he was of you when you started dating, and you were still unsure, to how he made sure to always keep an eye out for you at parties when you weren’t 100% feeling the crowds, to simply wanting to make sure you not only enjoy your holiday but your health is his main concern.
You both stood in a slightly tense silence, mainly due to the anxiety starting to come off in waves from Matt. The memories of all the times Matt acknowledged you and the choices where he considered you. It was as if he had already decided you were going to be a constant part of his life even when you were still battling between your heart telling you it wanted to be with him and your brain telling you that being with him is not only going to be hard work, but it’s also going to be nothing more than heartbreak.
And yet here you stand with your heart intact, fuller than you thought it could be. Not only had Matt made you whole entirely by yourself, but he had made you want to be more than whole. He’s made you want to walk through life holding his hand, knowing that if you stumble, he will catch you and be there to push you forward and get you safely to the other side. He’s made it clear that this is not something for him to pass the time, but his feelings for you run deep through his veins. No one has ever seen you in the way Matt has, and at every turn, he has made sure to not only tell you that you’re seen, but he always went the step further to show you that you’re seen.
“Yes Matthew, I will join you on that plane,” Moving closer to him to place your hands and his cheek and gently caress the lines of worry that were starting to fade at your words, you smiled up at him once more, “Hell I’d join you anywhere you’d ask me to go.”
So maybe it was time to show him that you see him, and maybe him seeing you fall isn’t such a bad thing.
Because yes, Matt was definitively a great man but better than that, he was a good one.

Omg previous ask back here I am so glad to hear your thoughts and your perspective was really nice!! :D
I do understand that it's meant to be frustrating as part of his character I just didn't know if it was lazy writing or character loyalty HELP cuz I can't tell sometimes
I do also wish his development turns positive because out of everyone in the cast I'd argue he deserves a bad ending the LEAST. Compared to what others have done, Madara is kinda,, tame. Not at all I mean if you compare vigilante justice and resorting to violence to protect your loved ones compared to say,,, martyring 5 students to the point of severe mental damage and indirectly causing mass suicide in your school, Madara's sins (at least, his known ones) are a drop in the bucket even if we estimate indirect casualties.
He's a guy that does bad and damages himself but never once did I at least perceive his actions to be malicious. If anything, I liked him for the fact that he does what he does to be better for others, and that singular thing will always resonate in my heart. I'd pull my hair out and bash my head against the wall if I had to summarize his character because he just ISN'T SIMPLE. I once tried to explain his lore to my sister and I ended up sending her a voice mail that was EIGHT MINUTES LONG and I talk fast.
Ahem anyways yes I do hope they don't bash his character story like whatever the fuck they did with other characters (coughs) (looks at the horror that is matrix) (coughs)
Also I forgot to sign off cuz I was in the middle of my shift but that was me ( @umiedibles ) wow madayumenon talking about Madara fork in the kitchen anyways have a good one I love your whiteboard posts :33 virtual milk and cookie for you 🥛🍪
tbh writing that made me realize id be disappointed if he ends up with anything more than a bittersweet resolution . a true positive everything turns out alright ending wouldnt be as impactful or very "madara". to me at least. after everything hes gone through the best way for his story to end imo would be to have him try and pull off a massive cataclysmic self destructive stunt, have his friends save him from himself (ideally kanata), and after its all over and his armor has been smashed to dust , finally learn to accept that things will never be the same again and thats okay. he still hates himself, he never reconciles with his family , but he stops actively trying to alienate people and starts exercising benefit of the doubt when it comes to other peoples opinions of him ("i dont know what you see in me but thank you regardless" instead of his current "liking me is a mistake on your part and im sorry for you") and that is the biggest piece of character development he could possibly have: accepting life as it is, no matter how unfair it happens to be
as for power scaling the sins of characters..... its unfair to say any of them are worse than any other. ive talked about this before but eichi, although bitter, was well intentioned. it tears him up inside to this day even. tsumugi was naïve. keito got lost in his own fantasies after obtaining a position of power. madara was provoked . and no one in the war got out unscathed. the only real dickbags in enstars are gatekeeper godfather priest etc
also matrix wasnt that bad . rinne is just rinne.

Helloo! It is i, the same anon who requested the night and morning routines with the hunting dogs, and first of all i just wanted to say that i really love your writing and how detailed it is!! Everytime i read one of your fics i am literally so amazed at how you write the characters, no matter who it is. So when i saw that you’re requests were open i got so happy, and this time i would like to ask for the hunting dogs (YES THEM AGAIN, I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH) and how they would spend the holidays with their s/o, how they would prepare for christmas, etc. (and of course just platonic with Teruko, like a best friend reader. And also no Fukuchi lol) And once again, feel free to remove whoever you want to because i completely understand if this is too much. Anyways, i hope you have a great day/night!!
-🕯
Omg helloooo anon!!! Welcome back!! Thank you, I'm honoured to know that you like my writing >.< and I love the Hunting Dogs too, so of course I'll write for them :)

Hunting Dogs spending holidays with their S/O (best friend for Teruko)
Tecchou:
Tumblr media
-I feel like the Hunting Dogs don’t get a lot of holidays, however, for the sake of this post let’s say that they do ^-^
-Tecchou wouldn’t really mind spending the holidays in any way really, as long as he gets to spend time with you. You could literally drag him out to do a day-long hike or go shopping at the mall until it was 11PM and he would not complain. In fact, he likes it and always looks forward to going out to a new place everyday
-However, he also wouldn’t mind just spending time at home with you. Do some fun couples activities together! Like baking, playing video games, couples yoga, reading books, working out, anything really! Although please keep an eye on Tecchou when he bakes, because not only might he add some sus stuff into the mixture, he might set the house on fire
-Would probably wake up early just to exercise. I’m so sorry if you’re not a morning person, because Tecchou would drag you to exercise with him everyday at 7AM in the morning, even when it was the holidays. But sometimes, he also likes a good sleep in that includes a long cuddling session
-Holidays with him are either chill or quite adventure-filled. There is never a dull moment that goes by
-Now I feel like Tecchou doesn’t really celebrate Christmas; at the most he’ll bid everyone a ‘Merry Christmas’ and accept gifts from people. But he is more than happy to decorate a Christmas tree with you and just spend a great Christmas with you in general
-Oh but please tell Tecchou that the pine trees that are put up for Christmas are normally fake and could be bought in stores... because Tecchou is going to actually drag a pine tree all the way home to use as decoration. Yes, you heard me. A literal. Pine. Tree
-Even though it’s sweet that the thought’s there, I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t want to be sharing your home with tons of bugs and whatever else lives in pine trees, am I right? Not to mention it probably is illegal to do that
-But other than that, Tecchou is absolutely down to celebrating Christmas the way you celebrate it. He’d help decorate the house, put Christmas lights everywhere, even put on some Christmas songs. Even when his taste in food is questionable, his taste in decoration is impeccable. Because all he wants for Christmas is to have a good time with you :)))
-Buy presents for him!!! He would be a bit clueless on why people give presents on Christmas, but he’ll catch on quickly, and even buy presents for you!! But beware, he’ll buy you a lot of presents, and they are the most random presents you have ever seen. Please educate him on this whole Christmas-gifts thing, because he’s trying :(
-Teach him everything about Christmas, because he would love to learn about it. Tecchou might even dress up as Santa Claus and volunteer at the local mall to talk to the kids, and he answers questions so seriously that the kids are lowkey scared of him lol. Please teach him before Jouno murders him
-Christmas nights are normally spent cuddling in front of the fireplace. It’s dark, the candles give a cosy atmosphere, and cuddling with Tecchou is the absolute best thing to do 💗
Jouno:
Tumblr media
-Jouno isn’t really fussed on how he spends the holidays; so long as he isn’t exhausted by the end of the day or has to go to really loud places, then he’s perfectly fine with anything
-He strikes me more of the type to stay at home with you and spend quality time with you. You’ll find that cuddling sessions have increased by at least two times, and the amount of kisses too
-Slow dancing with him in the kitchen at nighttime!!! Even though Jouno’s blind, his other sharp senses and great reflexes make him a really good slow dancer. If you don’t know anything about slow dancing, he will teach you, but beware he might tease you a bit for how cute you looked as you were struggling to learn it. Step on his feet please
-Now that it’s the holidays, Jouno definitely is going to sleep in with you. If you wake him up early to work out with him, he’s going to be a bit annoyed, but he won’t object to working out with you. It might help him be stronger than Tecchou, afterall
-If you wanted to go out somewhere to spend time with him, Jouno doesn’t mind, as long as his senses don’t get overwhelmed. But he would prefer taking nice, long walks in the evening where the sunset is beautiful and there is just the two of you on the stroll
-In the rare moments, he might even link his fingers with yours. Hold his hand back and stroke it! It might catch him by surprise at first, but if you’re observant, you might just notice his thumb lightly stroking the back of your hand. It’s very soft though... so pay extra attention
-Honestly just wants to spend his holidays by being with you as much as he can. I feel like his love language is mostly quality time, so Jouno is going to spend as much time as possible with you
-Now for celebrating Christmas... Jouno isn’t really the type to celebrate Christmas. However, convince him and he will eventually join in with your Christmas celebration. He wouldn’t want the house to be decorated too much though, because he just doesn’t want to spend a lot of time packing them up :/
-But he will go gift shopping with you! I headcanon that Jouno has great tastes when it comes to presents, it’s just that sometimes he’s a troll and gets you something to tease you. However he will be serious and buy you some extra nice gifts for Christmas
-I feel like Jouno would be a bit more romantic on Christmas. Playful kisses, fleeting touches, and just being more romantic in general. If you tease him for being all lovey-dovey and soft, he’s going to tease you extra hard 10x back
-Would definitely whisper to you a merry Christmas on Christmas Eve, probably accompanied by a kiss
Tachihara:
Tumblr media
-Tachihara definitely wants to get out of the house and spend the holidays with you
-I feel like he’s more of the hiking and beach type, but if you wanted to go shopping with him he’d gladly accompany you. Just please don’t buy too much stuff because he’s going to trip and fall while carrying them
-Sleeping in and cuddles is a must. Now that Tachihara has more time to spend with you, he’s not losing a second of it, so expect lots and lotsss of affection. He won’t do it every single second, but when he does, you’ll be covered in hugs and kisses
-Also loves taking walks with you. He would take you to actual 5km walks where the scenery is beautiful, and you wouldn’t feel so tired because Tachihara would keep you company. But if you were absolutely exhausted, Tachihara will definitely give you a piggyback ride, maybe even carry you bridal style when nobody’s around xD
-Video games and movie nights!!! I headcanon that Tachihara loves playing Mario-Kart and Fortnite, as well as anything you play. Most of the time you two end up trolling little kids on Roblox, and it’s mighty fun. Even then, it’s very amusing watching Tachihara play, because he always manages to make the gameplay interesting
-Now for Christmas... Tachihara secretly wants to celebrate Christmas with you so bad, because when he was younger his family unfortunately did not celebrate it with him. So go all out and celebrate Christmas in the most fun way possible! Buy heaps of gifts, decorate the entire house with Christmas lights, hang up Christmas stockings, just do everything with him! He’ll love it, and he’ll also fall in love with you more
-Definitely lights up a fire in the fireplace and watches good Christmas movies with you, alongside a nice hot cup of cocoa or hot chocolate. Also cuddles with you wrapped in blankets on the couch, and it’s just really nice and cosy
-Also sings a lot of Christmas karaoke with you. I feel like he would be great at singing if he removed the roughness in his voice. I headcanon he likes singing ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, because it’s such a nostalgic song
-Christmas is his favourite celebration now, because he can spend it with you 💗
Teruko:
Tumblr media
-Having Teruko as a best friend means that she’s dragging you to a lot of places to hang out in the holidays
-Most of the time she would go shopping or swimming at the beach. Teruko would definitely swim out to the farthest distance she could, and she will throw a tantrum if people tell her that she couldn’t. If you tell her that the sea could easily sweep her away or if there’s dangerous marine life out there, it just makes her more adamant to swim out. She’ll even wrestle a shark if that meant she could swim as far as she wanted lmao Teruko please don’t
-Teruko is going to buy whatever is on discount. And when I say whatever, I mean whatever. Mostly she’ll buy stuff that she thinks Fukuchi likes, but she’ll also be happy to buy stuff that you like too! Teruko will mostly judge stuff and be picky, but the stuff that she thinks are good are actually the best quality. So always trust Teruko’s gut on which items are good or not
-Working out in the gym together! Don’t underestimate Teruko’s small stature, because she can just use her ability and suddenly turn into a very strong woman. She might even have competitions with you to see who can lift the heaviest weights and who could run the fastest on the treadmill she always wins lmao
-But sometimes even extraverts need to recharge. On those times Teruko is just perfectly happy to chill with you, talking about whatever comes to mind. Or you two would watch a tv show or a movie, sometimes judging the film if it was bad
-Also don’t be surprised if Teruko rocks up to your house and announces that she’s booked a trip to a nearby island for a day. She loves planning surprises, and frankly speaking those islands that she drags you to are pretty nice, with lots of activities to do on them. And she will cover the cost, but it would be nice if you treated her to some food and stuff (dw being a Hunting Dog means you’re rich)
-Amusement parks!!! Teruko loves going on rides, especially the ones that are super tall and big and with a lot of twists and turns. But prepare yourself for a lot of her tantrums, because she’s always too short for the ride lol. Teruko ends up using her ability in the end, but she is very vocal at expressing her annoyance
-And just because it’s the holidays, doesn’t mean that she’ll stop asking for piggyback rides. In fact, her requests for piggyback rides will double. Teruko won’t force you to give her a piggyback ride if you were really tired, but be prepared to give her a lot of piggyback rides the next day
-Now onto Christmas! Teruko would love celebrating Christmas with you, and she normally would go to a restaurant with you to have a Christmas dinner. She might even invite Fukuchi and the rest of the Hunting Dogs, and by the end of it Fukuchi is so drunk, Tecchou mixes a lot of suspicious food combinations, Jouno is ready to murder everyone, Tachihara is close to crying, and Teruko is also drinking with Fukuchi. Good luck dealing with them, but don’t worry because Jouno and Tachihara are surprisingly good at dealing with these stuff
-Teruko definitely invites you over to her house on Christmas. She sets up a pine tree, decorates it nicely, hangs flashy Christmas lights and stockings everywhere, basically just going all out with decorations. If you pay close attention, you might even catch her singing some Christmas songs when she thinks she is alone. Don’t tell her you saw though, because Teruko will threaten to punch you
-You two would also spend Christmas singing Christmas songs and watching Christmas movies. Teruko is definitely in a much more energetic mood, and she will be wishing everybody a ‘Merry Christmas’ before you two go to sleep (Jouno was so confused lmao)

prince's gambit highlights & annotations
chapter 10
indented text is from the book. some quotes have commentary, some do not. some comments are serious, and some are definitely not. most of them will only make sense to people who have read the series. and, like, there are spoilers. so please read the books first if you're interested!
also: part of the reason i'm doing such a close reading is to study cs pacat's style, especially in terms of how she does romance and erotica. there are "craft notes" that might seem weird, like i'm being redundant or restating something rather than analyzing, but those are more things that i want to remember/take away from the writing!
i'm going to tag these longer posts with "sam reads capri" in case anyone wants to read them all at once.
this is a google doc i wrote with overall content warnings for the captive prince series. it's not perfect, but i do think it's important to include.
‘It’s an independent governance. Which is absurd. On a map, it’s a speck. But I am Prince of Acquitart, as well as Prince of Vere, and the laws of Acquitart don’t require me to be twenty one to inherit. It’s mine. There’s nothing my uncle can do to take it,’ said Laurent. And then he said, ‘I suppose he could invade.’ And then: ‘His men could wrestle Arnoul in the stairwell.’
he’s talking to damen like a friend it’s so CUTE
And kissed him, a long, slow kiss with his hand cupping Aimeric’s head. Aimeric went attractively pliant, giving himself to the kiss, his arms winding around Jord’s neck; his antagonistic nature was apparently not one he exercised between the sheets. Jord, it seemed, brought out the best in him. They were occupied, like the servants, like the soldiers in the barracks. Everyone in Acquitart was occupied. Damen slipped past, and made his way to the stables.
everyone is getting laid but damen >:( anyway time to go hang out with laurent for another secret mission
Laurent had walked a few steps from the archway, crushing flowers underfoot. Now he leaned his back against one of the broken-down stones.
LAURENT LEAN #10 YAYYYY
‘I used to come here when I was younger,’ Laurent said, ‘with my brother.’ Damen went still, turning cold, but in the next moment the sound of hoofbeats had him turning, his sword singing from its sheath.
oh this is great from both perspectives.
damen pov- laurent: i used to come here with my brother damen, mentally: oh fuck i killed your brother and you don’t know and now you’re sharing this intimate detail with me and WAIT STAND BACK I’LL PROTECT YOU eventhoughikilledyourbrotherwhoyouloved
laurent pov- laurent: i used to come here with my brother laurent, mentally: this’ll make damianos uncomfortable. but also it feels kinda nice to share with damen. dude what the fuck am i even doing.
It was women.
HOORAY WOMEN
A few men, too.
:/
Damen’s sword was taken from him, and the knife at his belt was taken too. He didn’t like it. At all.
damen ptsd hypervigilance moment (although it’s a very reasonable reaction regardless. i think the real ptsd thing here is the fact that damen doesn’t trust laurent to keep them both safe in this situation, which like, given his experiences, makes sense)
Blindfold. He barely had time to absorb the idea before Laurent acquiesced to the nearest woman.
do you think laurent is comfortable with this because he hasn’t been abused by women, and because the vaskian women don’t seem to view him as a sexual object? it’s just interesting, how every time laurent is around women he seems to noticeably relax (except vannes, although that was in the environment of the court). i can’t imagine laurent allowing this treatment from men.
Damen was a little stunned by the image. The blindfold covered Laurent’s eyes and emphasised his other features, the clean line of his jaw, the fall of his pale hair. It was impossible not to look at his mouth.
damen i don’t think this is a universal impossibility i think you just have a kink
The blindfold felt more like a requirement of submission than a precaution, because it seemed very possible to trace their steps, both for a man like himself with soldier training, and probably also for Laurent’s mathematical mind.
“there is no honor in submission” theme, but this isn’t exactly submission. they agreed to it (or laurent did for them both) knowing that it’s a demonstration of trust, rather than any kind of forced powerlessness
He thought they had shown enough trust by coming here alone, under blindfold, without weapons.
craft note (kinda): i think a lot of this situation is being used to put damen in the position akielion slaves might find themselves in. the muddy nature of submission and pacts of helplessness, being forced to lower oneself and follow commands, being used as a sexual object in a dehumanizing but not necessarily unpleasant way. there is some part of damen that takes issue—he can tell he’s being dishonored and he doesn’t like it. this is, literally, dishonorable submission. so if damen applies that new sense of empathy and understanding to akielion slaves later on... we start to see how he reaches the conclusions he does.
Halvik sat on it, watching their approach with black eyes that reminded Damen of Arnoul.
so was arnoul the child of a vaskian warrior? i guess it would make sense right? just curious why this detail was included
Laurent calmly ascended the dais and arranged himself in a languid half-sprawl beside Halvik.
laurent lean #11! love the image of this badass warrior woman sitting with like. boss ass bitch business posture. and next to her we have laurent reclining coquettishly with an invisible non-alcoholic mimosa
The liquid was milky white and harsh with the rasp of alcohol; one shallow sip, and he felt hot fire run down his throat into his veins.
me when my dad told me to try rumchata mixed with fireball christmas 2019
On the dais, he saw Laurent wave away a similar cup when it was offered to him, despite the advice he had just given Damen.
me when i tried one sip of rumchata mixed with fireball christmas 2019
Of course. Of course Laurent wasn’t drinking. Laurent surrounded himself with the opulent excesses of a courtesan, and lived in them like an ascetic. It was beyond Damen why anyone thought they were fucking. No one who knew Laurent would ever think that. Damen drained the cup.
girl what does this even MEAN. it’s so abruptly petty. i’ll take it line by line i guess??
“of course. of course laurent wasn’t drinking.” = repetition implies damen is annoyed and exasperated by laurent’s hypocrisy and immunity to social customs
“laurent surrounded himself with the opulent excesses of a courtesan [prostitute], and lived in them like an ascetic [chaste religious person].” = a previous observation damen has made. laurent can be as sexy and raunchy as he wants, but he’s also untouchable and he knows it. this probably bothers damen, whether he wants to admit it or not, because he wants laurent soooo bad.
“it was beyond Damen why anyone thought they were fucking. no one who knew Laurent would ever think that.” = “he would never want a barbarian like me. he would never want anyone at all. it’s all just an act.” (also, damen confidently asserting that he knows laurent is cute)
“damen drained the cup.” = “well if i can’t fuck him and i can’t participate in diplomacy i might as well get wasted about it”
He decided, after the third cup, that he liked the drink. It was strong and rousing, and he found himself with a new appreciation of Kashel, who was refilling his cup. She was of a similar age to Laurent, and she was attractive, her body ripened and adult.
i love how damen rarely describes someone as attractive without mentioning laurent. it’s not “she was an appropriate age for damen to court” or “she was youthful but mature in a way damen found attractive,” it’s “she’s similar in age to laurent,” which is just shorthand for “damen finds her hot” because anyone who has anything in common with laurent is therefore attractive to damen in that way. the fact that damen was doing this shit even in book 1 when laurent was actively torturing him is insane. king.
Laurent and Halvik were engaged in talk. Their back-and-forth had the rhythm of a bargain being hammered out. Halvik’s flinty stare was returned by Laurent’s impassive blue gaze. It was like watching one stone negotiate with another. He turned his attention away from the dais, and let himself enjoy, instead, the open exchange with Kashel, which was achieved without language, in a series of long, lingering looks. When she took the cup from his hands, their fingers slid together.
craft: love the juxtaposition of the two paragraphs here. two very different kinds of negotiation going on
It was Halvik who answered, in thickly accented Veretian, ‘He is smaller, and has the tongue of a cocotte. His seed will not breed strong women.’
so i googled “cocotte” and yes it’s a word for prostitute, but also for a cast-iron cooking pot. cast-iron. lmao
Laurent looked entirely undisturbed by her description. ‘In fact, my bloodline does not throw girls at all.’
laurent transcends sex for procreation to me. if he’s fucking at all, he’s doing it for the bit, for trauma recovery, or because damen did something absurdly attractive and it got him feeling amorous. it doesn’t even occur to me that this man could be involved in the process of creating a human child.
‘Is this—are you ordering me to do this?’ ‘Do you need orders?’ said Laurent. ‘I can direct you, if you lack proficiency.’
i like how he never explicitly orders it, because he doesn't have to. laurent is both doing a nice thing for damen (getting him laid) and sweetening the deal with the vaskians
also yeah laurent definitely has a thing for being instructive and condescending to damen specifically. he’s made a "i can tell you what to do" comment one too many times and now it’s sounding a little too opportunistic to be completely aloof
‘Kiss her,’ said Laurent.

He didn’t need to be told what to do or how to do it by Laurent, and he proved that with a long, deliberate kiss.
so what you’re saying is that the garden scene would have been a lot more fun for damen if he was the one giving head and showing off his skills for laurent
‘You can tell Halvik that it would be my honour to lie with one of her girls,’ said Damen when he drew back, his voice low with pleasure.
HOORAY CONSENT
She was a fine, well-made young woman, and she matched him with an intensity that grew out of her laughter as she pulled at his clothes; it had been a long time since he had enjoyed a free, uninhibited exchange of pleasure.
it’s interesting to note the difference in the way damen describes this encounter to ones with laurent. he’s having fun, but he isn’t really Affected. it’s like sports. i think he has felt genuinely attached to sexual partners before, like jokaste, but this isn’t that. and the way he remarks that he hasn’t felt simple pleasure in a long time speaks to his complicated and deep feelings about his relationship with laurent.
... he roused her to the point that she became hotly, dazedly abandoned to him, which, above all things, he liked.
craft note: foreshadowing ;)
Clothes were difficult. Laces eluded him. He decided, after a few attempts, that he did not require his shirt. It was taking all his attention to hold his pants up. Laurent was asleep when Damen found his way to the correct tent, but he stirred in the furs when the tent flap opened, his golden lashes fluttering, then lifting. When he saw Damen, he pushed himself up on one arm and gave a single wide-eyed blink. Then, soundlessly, behind the press of a hand, he started helplessly laughing. Damen said, ‘Stop. If I laugh, I’ll fall over.’ Damen squinted at a separate fur pile near Laurent’s, then made his best attempt: he wove, reached and then collapsed down onto it. This seemed the pinnacle of accomplishment. He rolled over on his back. He was smiling. ‘Halvik had a lot of girls,’ he said.
craft note: i love how his drunkenness is written into his narration. the short sentences, hyperbolic "pinnacle of accomplishment" comedy. it’s great.
also, i think “laurent blinked” might be a way of pacat saying that he’s, like, recalibrating himself. it's happened a few times now. it’s adorable
When he turned his head to look, Laurent was lying on his side, head propped on one hand, gazing at him, eyes bright. ‘This is instructive. I’ve seen you put half a dozen men in the dirt without breaking a sweat.’ ‘Not right now, I couldn’t.’ ‘I can see that. You’re relieved of your regular duties in the morning.’ ‘That’s nice of you. I can’t get up. I’ll just lie here. Or did you need something?’ ‘Oh, how did you know?’ said Laurent. ‘Take me to bed.’ Damen groaned and found himself laughing after all, in the moment before he pulled the furs over his head. He heard a final sound of amusement from Laurent, and that was all he heard before sleep reached up and claimed him.
so this must have driven readers of the original livejournal serial insane. you get a chapter where damen fucks several people who aren’t laurent, and then you get this. i can still feel aftershocks from the discourse and fan response
‘Your negotiations went well?’ ‘We certainly left in possession of a great deal of new goodwill.’ ‘You should do business with the Vaskians more often.’
pffft “get me laid more often please”
Eventually, and with an odd hesitancy, Laurent asked, ‘Is it different than with a man?’
ahhh this line. i’m sensing insecurity, trauma, heterophobia, and jealousy. and he actually let himself say it out loud!
It was different with everyone. He didn’t say this aloud; it was self-evident.
i mean. maybe not to laurent
For a moment he thought Laurent was on the verge of asking him something more, but Laurent just kept looking at him, a long, unselfconsciously studying look, and said nothing at all. Damen said, ‘Are you curious about it? Isn’t it supposed to be taboo?’ ‘It is taboo,’ said Laurent. There was another pause. ‘Bastards curse the line, and sour the milk, ruin the crops, and drag the sun out of the sky. But they don’t bother me. I pick all my fights with true-born men. You should probably bathe,’ said Laurent, ‘when we return.’
actual heterophobia. i love how pacat either 1) had to ask herself what reasons a culture could have for making straightness taboo, and came up with anti-bastardry or 2) knew she wanted veretians to have the anti-bastard bias, and realized that meant they were heterophobic. it’s funny either way
Aimeric stopped short and stared at Damen. Then he looked at Laurent’s door. Then back at Damen. Damen realised he was still radiating his good mood, and probably looked as if he had fucked all night and then crawled through a passage. He had. ‘We knocked and there was no answer,’ said Aimeric. ‘Jord sent men to find you.’ ‘Is there some delay?’ said Laurent, appearing in the doorway. Laurent was coolly immaculate from top to toe; unlike Damen, he looked fresh and well rested, with not a hair out of place. Aimeric was staring again. Then, gathering his attention back together, Aimeric said, ‘The news came an hour ago. There’s been an attack on the border.’
and you know they’d do the same exact thing, and appear the same exact way, if they were actually fucking.
also!! lamen hr complaint #3, from aimeric! they were busy fucking* while the border was attacked. also, damen displayed unprofessionalism in his appearance and conduct.
*to aimeric’s understanding

Hi! May I ask for a match up if you're still doing that? I'd love to be 🌱 anon! Long matchup please, romantic, I don't have a preference on who since I'm curious about your thoughts. I go by she/her, and prefer a guy matchup.
Ideal partner: Someone patient, kind, witty and reliable. I'm an INFJ, can be shy and awkward at first, and have people-pleasing tendencies which I'm trying to unlearn and can get angry/ frustrated easily. But as I open up, I'm quick-witted, introspective, caring, and able to easily switch between a serious and silly side. I also have a fear of failing and looking stupid which makes me hesitant about trying new, big things.
I enjoy writing, reading and learning languages. I tend to make many playlist for oddly specific moods. And I used to play volleyball but haven't in more than 5 years.
My giving love languages is quality time and words of affirmation, and receiving is acts of service.
Ideal date... Maybe just something simple that feels intimate?
Thank you for your time!

🥛 ooh my first kita matchup in a while!
🥛 so kita definitely fits your ideal match list, particularly the patient and reliable parts
🥛 he's very wise and mature for his age
🥛 so he'll definitely empathize with your people-pleasing tendencies and your fear of new things
🥛 but he'll probably sit you down and give you an honest talk (he's very blunt so hopefully you're not overly sensitive)
🥛 he'd tell you you have to stand up for yourself and be brave because life is what you make of it and you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, that whole spiel
🥛 kita definitely likes reading too! he probably reads old fashioned newspapers (gotta keep up with the current events yknow) and biographies
🥛 he doesn't necessarily need to know other languages since he's not travelling around after graduation but he'd be fascinated by your language skills
🥛 would probably want to learn a bit of english at least
🥛 although let's be fair he probably aced english class and can carry full conversations
🥛 he'd love to play volleyball with you sometime! post-timeskip he definitely doesn't get to do it often but he likes to get exercise that way too (although being a farmer certainly is hard physically too)
🥛 kita is king of acts of service
🥛 i feel like he'd believe that anyone could say anything, but only those who mean it would act on it (if that makes sense; basically actions speak louder than words)
🥛 uh but yeah he'd just be doing everything for you, whether it's making you food (i think my dad's giving love language is acts of service because he always washes / prepares fruit for me and my mom, puts our dishes away, etc etc) or taking care of you when you're sick
🥛 in return he'd love to spend some good quality time with you doing something you love
🥛 he doesn't need words of affirmation but his heart certainly beats a little faster when you praise him
🥛 and i don't think he likes pda but would be up for cuddling when you're alone together
runner up for you was akaashi keiji!

A/N: hi 🌱anon! thank you for your request, and i hope you liked your match! thank you for waiting :)

When it comes to the mp100 ageswap AU, the most interesting thing (for me, at least) is figuring out how exactly a storyline for it would work - after all, Mob growing up without Reigen would be a totally different guy, right? Well. I have a scenario that I made up in my brain, and I'm going to do my best to explain it below!
[Edit: this ended up being sort of a prologue/backstory, so I suppose.. it's a fic now? I tried to split the sections like chapters/episodes after accidentally writing too much but oh boy this is not what I set out to do]
---------------------
After hurting Ritsu accidentally as children, Mob becomes afraid of his own power, and anxious about using it. He also becomes awkward around others in general, as he cannot imagine being able to stop himself if he accidentally hits ??? and hurts them. Ritsu is upset and angry that Shigeo has decided not to use his powers anymore, and becomes a bit cold toward him for it, but they are friendly with each other for the most part. [This is pretty much unchanged]
During middle school, Shigeo decides to join the body improvement club in order to cast aside the need for most of his powers - if not all, by focusing on his physical body. As Musashi is a kind-hearted guy, the telepathy club is invited to use the room as a place to hang out, as they cannot exist as a club without a room. Mob, who struggles a lot with physical exercise, often ends up spending a fair amount of time around Tome and the others in the club. Although at first he's bitter and cold toward her for thinking psychic powers are a good/cool thing [bitter and cold in his own way, ie "you,, don't understand what you're talking about.. psychic powers are.. dangerous.." sort of energy], eventually her genuine enthusiasm breaks him down, and he agrees to help her search for espers, while himself not expressing that he is one.
At this point, Shigeo and Ritsu don't speak much, but they are amicable toward one another. Ritsu respects that Shigeo wants to improve as a person, but is also filled with anger that Shigeo refuses to use his natural abilities, and even more anger at himself for causing Shigeo to stop using them. Ritsu becomes a bit of a danger to himself and others, and finds himself tricked/persuaded by Onigawara and crew to assist them in an attack on a neighbouring school.
Ritsu (who was only really acting out, but is generally a good guy) freaks out when met with Hanazawa, an esper that wants to hurt others, and realises why exactly his older brother has been afraid to use his powers for so long. Viewing the destruction caused by the newcomer, he engages Hanazawa in a conversation, explaining that he should be more careful with his power, that people will get hurt, and asks that he stop. Hanazawa is extremely angered by this, believing himself to be the main character of the world, and attacks Ritsu. Through an extremely painful and stressful fight, Ritsu's powers are awakened, and elsewhere Shigeo is alerted to the feeling of two espers exerting a lot of power.
However, he would rather avoid joining the fight, and waits for the energy to die down, afraid he'd only make it worse by being a third esper in the fight. Then the house phone rings, so he picks up (as neither of his parents can come to the phone). On the other end is an already very unhinged Hanazawa, telling him that he'd beaten his younger brother in a fight, and had been asked to call him to get picked up. Ritsu's thinking was partially that Shigeo would be strong enough to protect him and take him home safely, and partially that it would help Shigeo come to terms with the fact he can't avoid his powers all his life. He wants his brother to accept his powers, after all.
The call ignites Shigeo's strong feelings of protection over his younger brother, and he immediately gets up to go to where he is and save him. By the time he reaches the school, he's already at a pretty negative point emotionally, quick to become dangerous. Hanazawa is very quickly beaten up, no exchanging of names or invitations of friendship, as Shigeo clearly sees him as an enemy from the get-go (for hurting Ritsu quite badly), and the feeling is mutual (because he lost and has to accept that he's weaker than someone). Shigeo saves Ritsu, takes him home, and passes out from exhaustion pretty quickly (physcial and mental).
--
When he returns to school the next day, his memories of the previous day are hazy, but he feels awful. Tome shows him a clip from the news of a school being destroyed, where she recognises him - and with an added remark of Inukawa remembering that Mob used to say he was a psychic, she asks if it was Shigeo's doing. Shigeo, who is upset by the events he can recall, and the ones he is being shown, becomes anguished - but the members of the telepathy group say that his actions were, in a way, heroic, and he quickly calms down, surprised to hear their positive response. Tome says he kind of overkilled it and shouldn't have destroyed a school, but that he stood up for his brother and protected him, which isn't that bad a thing to do. She then complains about him hiding his psychic powers from her, though she makes light of the situation and says he's probably got his reasons for hiding them, preventing Shigeo from becoming too upset by the scolding. She suggests that he has to become confident with his powers if he wants to be a real hero-type, and tells him to consider what he wants to do with them now that people know. Luckily as the footage captured isn't too clear, the unpopular Shigeo is not noticed, and the goody-two-shoes Ritsu is considered above suspicion. [Teru may or may not have been recognised by his school board, but I'm undecided. I lean toward him being recognised, but eh.]
Mezato is also interested by the news, and begins searching for the 3 people briefly shown in the news clip, who were hard to make out in the footage (Ritsu, Hanazawa, and Shigeo) but she is no amateur. She stumbles across Ritsu and questions him, but he's dark, angsty, and passive, newly awakened to psychic powers after being extremely injured, and a fair bit traumatised from the event. She pens him down as a possible instigator, and through a cryptic line like "my brother was right about having power being a bad thing," she goes to track Shigeo down, who encourages her to stop looking into it, as it's dangerous. She keeps her eye on both of them from this point on, as she has a faint idea that this could be the scoop of a lifetime.
As a result of the fight with Hanazawa, Ritsu starts practicing with his powers in secret. He's powerful, but new to his abilities, and afraid to bump into others like Hanazawa again without being able to use psychic power properly. Especially now that he knows he's weak compared to his older brother, who was vicious during the fight - even if it was in order to protect him. However, while practicing his powers, he is approached by Hanazawa himself, who tells him he can help him train, using the same justification that Shigeo is so overwhelmingly powerful that Ritsu needs to be able to defend himself "just in case something were to set him off again". They do not see eye-to-eye on this necessarily, but Ritsu sees the use in having a talented esper to help him train, and accepts the offer.
Meanwhile, Tome is trying to encourage Mob to be more confident with his powers, and to use them to help others, like a superhero. Although they usually hung out to search for telepaths in the past, she begins using this time to encourage him to help people in ways only he can, such as tripping purse snatchers, calming down lost children, and fixing broken things, all using his innate psychic abilities. Shigeo is learning slowly to use his powers in ways that make him feel good, and eventually, one of the telepathy club members suggests that he should try to exorcise a local ghost they heard about. Tome declares it a club excursion, and they all go to the abandoned building in which the ghost apparently resides.
Once there, they discover two other espers already on the case. Shigeo is surprised to see his brother there, along with the boy who had beaten him up a month or so ago. Ritsu explains that his powers had awoken, and he's been secretly training with Hanazawa, who seems to be intensely afraid of Shigeo. Shigeo asks if this is why Ritsu has barely been home the last few weeks, says their parents are worried, and that he should go home. Ritsu says he can't go home comfortably until he can control his power, "which you should understand, nii-san" and Shigeo is conflicted to learn that he has accidentally made Ritsu fearful of a power he's recently been making peace with.
Ritsu and Hanazawa go on ahead, and Shigeo isn't sure what he wants to do, wanting Ritsu to feel comfortable with his powers, (aka, let him try and exorcise the ghost, as he had intended to for training) but also wanting to send him home and keep him safe. He also feels apprehensive about Ritsu forging a friendship with someone he considers to be a bad person. Tome suggests they follow them, just in case, and Shigeo agrees with her judgement.
The spirit causing trouble turns out to be extremely dangerous, injuring both Ritsu and Hanazawa, as well as the telepathy club members. Shigeo steps in to protect them all from the spirit, and this also means protecting Hanazawa, who has become like a second brother to Ritsu over the last month. Hanazawa suddenly realises that Shigeo is a good person, but Ritsu becomes even more anguished due to his many conflicting feelings about psychic powers - how he couldn't do anything against the spirit, how Hanazawa suddenly seems in awe of his much stronger brother, and how Shigeo is able to destroy the spirit with ease, when neither of them could do anything special.
Hanazawa leaves with Ritsu, whose personality is becoming more twisted by the minute, confused at his feelings toward himself, and with feelings of fear and jealousy toward his brother, who suddenly seems comfortable using his psychic powers. This troubles him, when he had no idea Shigeo had also been 'training' his powers all this time [aka, he's getting it into his own head that Shigeo is intending to get stronger, rather than what we know; that he's trying to gain confidence].
--
Over the next while, he spends less and less time at home, only there to eat with the family - spending most of his time with Hanazawa, who stays by him, having become increasingly worried about his motivations. On the other side, Tome continues to help Shigeo to use his powers for noble causes, while he also continues activities with the body improvement club, which now includes Onigawara, who had witnessed Shigeo defeating Hanazawa and decided to learn more about him, only to enjoy the daily life of the club and become a member for real. [This is a weak plotline, subject to change, but I like Onigawara joining the club ok]
The telepathy club, other than Tome, no longer go with them on ghost visits due to the harrowing nature of the first. Even so, they keep ears to the ground to help them seek ghost rumours out, and are supportive of the good work they do for the locals. Shigeo is happily led by Tome's enthusiasm and strong sense of justice, and continues to help her search for other espers (especially telepaths) while exorcising ghosts and doing good deeds. He relies on her greatly for her personality, and doesn't feel a need to speak up too much - she views him as her equal and follows his judgement around spirits without making him feel uncomfortable.
During high school, despite being separated, Tome and Shigeo continue to work together on weekends. They are known locally as a pair of psychics, even though only one is an actual psychic - Tome is happy to be considered a psychic by association, however, and enjoys helping Shigeo in any way she can while on the job. This usually ends up in her speaking to the people they're helping; dealing with the social aspects that Shigeo finds uncomfortable, while Shigeo focuses his energy on the psychic work. She however does adopt moves such as Salt Splash after discovering that purified salt can weaken spirits, as a mechanism for self defence in dire situations.
At the same time (high school), Ritsu and Hanazawa have begun to pick up a following of espers who feel that their powers have made them alienated from society, and who want to be treated as normal people (the awakening lab crew), who they have begun to train, also. Ritsu has become more twisted by his need to prove his strength and worth against his brother, but is battling his own thoughts on this constantly - his brother would never hurt him, but what if? [Think: the anti-villain who believes they're an anti-hero and blurs the line as they fall deeper into their mess].
Hanazawa stays by Ritsu's side to remind him not to go off the deep end, and to continue helping him understand that Shigeo isn't his enemy [nobody here is a villain technically]. He tries to encourage Ritsu to speak to his brother about his feelings while he still can, but Ritsu (who is aware that his brother is now a local celebrity due to his powers) has become prey to his feelings of inadequacy. He believes he shouldn't speak to Shigeo until he's ready to fight him and defeat him, proving his worth as an esper, and a person. Hanazawa isn't sure that's for the best, but he continues to stay by Ritsu and support him, as he feels responsible for driving Ritsu to believe Shigeo was in any way dangerous when they first met.
-- timeskip to adulthood --
As adults, (around 24/25 [pssh, "adults"]) Tome opens Spirits and Such, alongside Mob, who has no other career path in mind, and is happy so long as Tome deals with people so he doesn't have to. Outside of his work with s&s, he is a bit of a recluse, shy around others, and still a little nervous about the powers he knows he's holding back, mostly staying in his apartment to avoid danger or conflict. Even so, he continues to regularly exercise, and helps the people around town when he can, while trying not to be noticed too much [this Shigeo is more socially anxious due to Tome taking on the bulk of social activity around him while they grew up].
Shou, who had heard of their work, and shares their strong sense of justice and desire to Do Good, comes one day to visit them. He notices very quickly that Shigeo is much more powerful than he lets on, and asks directly if he's content hiding so much of his power, a little disappointed in him. Shigeo (who has an easier time talking to spirits and fellow espers) explains that as a child, he'd hurt his brother, and has never truly recovered from the trauma, leaving an almost lifelong mental block on the bulk of his power. [This is something he feels he is able to speak about with other espers, and for comedic effect, Tome probably had no idea all this time and is shocked to find out something like that happened, when she thought the first time he used his powers to fight was during the fight with Hanazawa] Shou seems to understand his issue, and takes pity on him, explaining that he'll try to help Shigeo use and control the deeper powers he holds, giving him a business card for an esper research lab, and leaving.
Ritsu suddenly disappears after finishing university, and Shigeo (without hesitation) begins to use his free time to search for him, against Tome's better judgement. He has some leads, like Hanazawa becoming a celebrity psychic, though he's not sure how to go about meeting a celebrity, and Shou's mysterious esper research lab, though he isn't sure if Ritsu even knows about that. Sadly, he doesn't know how to go about following leads, when until now he's always followed Tome's judgements, so he's so far gotten absolutely nowhere.
This is about the time that LOL cult is being formed, and Reigen, a middle school boy, finds himself in the middle of a very dangerous situation. But luckily, S&S have been asked to check the shady organisation out by local reporter and friend of the business, Mezato, and Tome is sending in her best (and only) co-worker to get the job done.
--
Oh no I accidentally wrote a half-assed ageswap AU fanfiction? [REAL] This ended up being a whole prologue and being waaaay too big for me to tell the rest of the storyline in my head in just one post.......... 😳 So uh,,, let me know if you would want more of it 😳 (I even tried to make it brief!! This is not brief!!)

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 114 - Spock is on the Run
Star Trek: Discovery - Season 2 Episode 3 - Point of Light
Tumblr media
With Christmas over, I can get back to doing this properly.
This time, we're still on the lookout for Red Angel Signals and for any clues about Spock's situation. Sylvia Tilly is still seeing the ghost of her childhood friend May. Discovery stumbles across Sarek's ship, who requests to transport someone over. Everyone expects it to be Sarek, but it turns out to actually be his wife.
After the Intro we cut to the Klingon Empire, and things seem to be going well under L'Rell's rule. The Klingon houses are all together, even if there it a bit of tension about Tyler/Voq's presence.
Back on Discovery, we find out that Amanda tried to visit Spock in his psychiatric ward, but they wouldn't let her see him, and apparently any info about his situation is being kept secret, even from Family. So, she stole his medical file, and hands it off to Michael who in turn takes it to Captain Pike.
After a bit of Convincing, Pike calls up the Facility, but tactfully doesn't mention Amanda or the Stolen File, he simply words his request as a simple check from a captain, and we find out that apparently Spock escaped and is wanted for murder. This call convinces Pike to allow Michael to crack open the medical file.
We get this really good scene with Amanda opening up about how she regrets raising Spock in the way she did, and wishing he would have been allowed to express his emotion more, but this is interrupted by drawings of the Red Angel flickering through in the medical file, and then further interrupted by a call from Ash Tyler, which Michael needs to take. Michael's call with Ash is just a general catch up, and a nice heart to heart, but nothing immediately pressing. Later, we do find out that L'Rell and Voq had a child together, a complete surprise to Ash. L'Rell didn't tell Ash because she wanted him to be able to return to a human life without any need to return to Chronos. L'Rell knows that Ash called Michael and basically has seen the writing on the wall from Day 1. The way she wants to protect Ash/Voq's happiness is really sweet. Ash says he wishes to remain committed to staying on Klingon though, and agrees to raise the child. As to go to meet him however, they find the child has been kidnapped by one of rogue noble houses. We get a pretty good action scene out of it, although I wish it was a lit a bit better, it fell into the trap of thinking Visually Dark = Good. L'Rell and Ash lose their fight however, but are rescued by none other than Georgiou, who for some reason has a vested interest in L'Rell remaining the Chancellor of the Klingon empire
On Discovery's Bridge, where the Command Training Program people are beginning their "Shadow Exercises" which is a lot less badass than it sounds. Basically, they're studying directly under another officer. Sylvia, still her ghost, is studying under Captain Pike himself, which is definitely a golden opportunity. They have built him to be considered one of the best captains in the fleet, after all.
Apparently May's ghost is urgent to talk to a Captain, but not Pike, and not Saru because what she described sounds Human. I really wonder where this ghost falls on the Malice vs Incompetence Spectrum, throughout this sequence it does seem like she's pushing to block Sylvia from command. Pike notices something is up, but it's too late because May pushes Sylvia into an open outburst, which, because only she can see may, everyone on bridge thinks is directed towards Pike. I really like the idea of this ghost as kind of a metaphor stress or pushing yourself too hard or something, she did first appear in a scene where Saru gave her a little pep-talk about that.
Elsewhere, Michael's conversation with Amanda continues, and we learn a bit more about the Red Angel. Apparently the first time it appeared for Spock was during an incident where Michael ran away from home, and it told Spock exactly where she was. Additionally, we find out a bit more about what happened to damage Spock and Michael's relationship so much. Apparently, Michael Traumatised him to protect him from the logic extremists, because he kept following her around everywhere. We don't find out exactly what.
After both Michael and Sylvia's emotional moments, they both meet up in their bunks, and Sylvia finally opens up about how she's seeing a ghost. Michael manages to build Sylvia up a bit, which was really nice to see. And also, she manages to throw down a bit of logic about her situation: May isn't a hallucination, and whatever she is, she isn't the real Ghost of May. Additionally, because Michael has held a rock from the Asteroid and not suffered this effect, it must be connected to the Spores, and they agree to visit Paul Stamets.
Paul and Saru, now informed on Sylvia's situation get work and find out that May is a spore from the Terran Universe, but they make quick work of Extracting her. The fungal organism is huge however, and ends up contained.
I enjoyed this episode, especially Sylvia and May stuff, although I do wish we could have got a few more episodes of weird ghost stuff before it was resolved, I guess. The Klingon stuff was also great here. Apparently Georgiou is part of a black-ops unit called Section 31, I'm really interested to see where that goes now that she's back in play. Overall a pretty good episode.

hello!! i wasn't there for a long time. i hope you're doing good!! i saw that your request are open so can i request something. warning:you don't have to write it if you are uncomfortable with it!!! so iida x reader(f! or not specified) where reader have a bad relationship with (her) mom(my mommy issues acting up sorry). reader is kinda introverted and distanced from class(they both in 1A) but can be sarcastic so she can throw sarcastic states at her mom.(bonus if you add scene were they fighting over the phone/face to face and iida witnesses it. reader isn't most emotional one so i really want see how he will deal with it. some part of reader inspired by secret alliance so if you want you can read it but if you don't it's okay) again feel free to ignore this, I don't wish to make you uncomfortable
[ So, I started reading Secret Alliance and finished it, and I don't know whether to thank you or curse you out. I LOVED it. I have daddy issues so I can sympathize. This story is about 17 pages long, so I apologize for answering it a little late. But I hope you enjoy it, I put a twist on the mother. ]
Tumblr media
You tensed up when Eijirou approached and took a step back out of instinct. Your hands curled by your sides, and you felt uncomfortable enough in social situations, let alone when people stood just a little too close to you.
Of course, you were conditioned this way due to your mother's insistence that you never trust anyone. So, you learned to keep your distance from others and keep to yourself. But deep down you knew this was wrong.
Since you were a child, you felt the need for adventure and freedom, but your mother denied you this. She claimed that her overprotective ways were for your own protection, but you couldn't keep a bird caged all its life.
You needed to feel the wind underneath your wings and see the world from a fantastic new point of view. That's why you had tried so hard when it came to choosing to enroll at Yuuei High and pushed yourself to pass the entrance exam.
This was your only chance at freedom, at being who you were for once in your life. Even if you didn't know how to make friends or even talk to others, you wanted to change yourself and your life for the better.
Although, you could hardly believe you were viewed as one of the "cool kids" at school. Not that you paid much mind to such things, considering high school labels only lasted so long. "Hehe, hey!" Eijirou greeted you with a smile.
"Mm..." you mumbled in response, waiting for him to say what he needed to so you could move on with your life. "Do you wanna join us, we're going to do some training exercises!" he exclaimed, gesturing to his group of friends which consisted of Katsuki, Kaminari, Hanta, and Ashido.
You knew he was only trying to be friendly, and you couldn't fault him for that. "No thanks," you said, "maybe next time," with that you turned and continued walking. You needed to get back to the first-year dormitory.
You latched onto your lip and pulled out your phone to check the time, your mother usually called you multiple times a day to make sure you were okay, and most would agree that you never wanted to miss a call from your mother.
This was especially true in your case because your mother tended to panic when you didn't answer and had the power to do as she desired to find you, which was scary. Although your conversations with her were usually mentally exhausting and because of this, you preferred to speak to her in private.
You panted softly after you had jogged up the few steps that led to the front of the dormitory and opened the door frantically. Kicking off your shoes, you scurried past Izuku, Ochaco, and Tenya who happened to be sitting on the couch in the living room.
"Hm?" Ochaco was the first to notice you, "Y/n!" she exclaimed, waving her hand but you either ignored her or didn't hear her calling you. Her smile dropped as you disappeared down the hallway and she turned to look at her friends.
"Hey," she said, curling her hands in her lap. "Do you think Y/n is lonely?" she asked, now tapping the tips of her index fingers together with her gaze turned to the side. Tenya and Izuku exchanged glances before she continued speaking.
"I mean, she doesn't seem to have any friends and she is kind of distant from others," she had noticed that for the longest time, even though everyone in Class A had made countless attempts to try and connect with you, nothing seemed to work.
Izuku frowned, "I g-guess that's true, but maybe she just n-needs time to…open up?" he suggested before looking at Tenya who pushed his glasses back onto the bridge of his nose. "Perhaps she lacks the proper social skills needed to engage in conversation?" He suggested chopping one hand through the air.
"We do not know of her past nor her previous endeavors," he pointed out, although he assumed such information was obvious. "Then let's help her!" Ochaco declared, jumping up from the couch with her fist raised in the air triumphantly.
Tenya knit his eyebrows together while Izuku just looked scared as if interacting with you was some sort of death sentence. "Let's see…" Ochaco tapped her chin, looking between her friends. "Iida, go to Y/n's room and ask her to join us for movie night!" she demanded, stomping her foot against the floor.
Tenya raised one of his unusually shaped eyebrows and cleared his throat, "Pardon?" he replied, failing to understand why Ochaco chose him for this task. "You're the class president!" she replied, "she'll have to listen to you!" He found her reasoning to be illogical, but she did bring up a valid point.
He couldn't confidently call himself the class president or even a hero if he failed to make others feel that they were safe and belonged. "Perhaps you are correct!" he suddenly exclaimed with his hand furiously chopping through the air.
"Yeah, yeah!" Ochaco cheered him on as he continued. "I cannot allow any form of judgment to blind my duties as class president and as a future hero! I will gladly take it upon myself to perform this task accordingly!" he finished, admiring the way she clapped in response to his rather noble words.
"Go get'em Iida!" she yelled as he turned and began down the hallway intent on completing his newfound mission. He smiled as he approached your bedroom door and lifted his hand to knock. However, he paused when he heard something. It sounded like you were disagreeing with someone.
"I don't need you to tell me what to do!" you screamed into the phone with an angry scowl. You fisted your hand into your hair, it was so suffocating speaking to your mother. Part of you knew her overprotective nature and view on trust was because of her career.
But what happened to you after you were born wasn't your fault! Yet, she made you feel as if it was. Since you were little, she insisted you stay away from everyone, and that you couldn't trust anyone. This grew even worse after you told her you were going to enroll at Yuuei.
Every day leading up to the entrance exam, she went on and on about how being a hero was too dangerous and that it'd end your life, that you needed to stay with her because she was the only one that could protect you.
Your hand curled into a fist, and you clenched your jaw, grinding your teeth together. It was irritating that she was trying to keep you in a locked cage. "I told you already!" you suddenly snapped, "He only asked if I wanted to train with him and his friends, I said no!"
Your head was beginning to throb, was a stress headache coming? You were getting sick of hearing her go on and on about trust and insisting that you return home immediately. "Yeah, everything is fine! Goodbye!" you sighed before hanging up and taking a deep breath.
Maybe you could relax with a hot shower or something, yeah that sounded good. Another sigh escaped as you reached for the doorknob and stepped through only to find yourself face-to-face with Tenya. Your noses were almost touching and although you didn't exactly want to, you found your eyes locked with his.
You could feel his hot breath against your face and his musky scent, almost like a citrus fruit wrapped in an old library book filling your nostrils. It was comforting and would have put you at ease if not for the fact that your face was flushing and your heart accelerating.
Then, you suddenly jolted your arms out and pushed against his chest. He stumbled back, eyes wide with surprise and shock. Luckily, he was able to catch himself on the wall and snapped his head up to look at you although you hadn’t moved from your position.
You expected him to snap and ask what was wrong with you. But instead, he cleared his throat and reached up to adjust his tie, he had yet to change from school. He was more concerned than angry about the way you had reacted, what caused such a drastic response?
He wanted to walk over to you and directly ask if you were okay or needed assistance, but there was a certain tension in the air that prevented him from doing that. His stare caused a tinge of fear and your stomach twisted to the point where you felt nauseous.
'Breathe, breathe!' You screamed inside your head, but your body didn't want to respond. He opened his mouth to speak but ended up clearing his throat. He needed to remain calm and composed, "Apologies," he said, pressing a hand to his chest. "I did not mean to startle you, are you injured?" he asked, forcing his legs to stay put.
"I...I um," you pressed one hand to your face, letting out another frustrated sigh. Your skin was scolding hot, were you flushing that much, and why? You clenched your jaw, and hesitantly looked back at Tenya who appeared overly concerned, it must be killing him that you weren't responding.
Why did he ask if you were all right? It's not like he cared that much, right? The pressure of your teeth pressing together caused a soft ache to course through your mouth, and your hands curled into tight fists. You couldn't trust him...or at least that's what your mother said.
'Everyone is the same,' her words echoed in your head, 'Especially heroes and villains.' You swallowed the lump in your throat and looked Tenya in the eye, "I'm fine," you replied with your best poker face. "Now if you'll excuse me," you walked over to the door, ready to shut it.
But Tenya spoke up as soon as you grabbed the doorknob. "Pardon," he said with a raised finger, making you stop and glare at him. He noticed this, but given his own intimidating nature, he resumed speaking.
"Are you well? I am quite knowledgeable of the rules regarding eavesdropping, but I heard you conversing with someone, and I do not believe you were content," he explained. Part of you was angry he had eavesdropped but then again, you couldn't really blame him.
You were shouting after all. You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms over your chest. "That was just my mother. She's a real winner..." you commented sarcastically causing Tenya to narrow his eyes, he knew that your relationship with your mother was not his concern nor his business to know.
But he raised one hand and began to, yet again, furiously chop it through the air. "Pardon, but I am most certain that your mother has cared for you since your birth, and to speak ill of a parent who has provided you with home and food is unjust!" he nobly stated.
You growled softly and stepped out into the hallway, jabbing him in the chest with your finger. "You don’t know anything," you replied trying to keep that calm and cool composure you were apparently known for. It was so easy for others to say you were the one who was being ungrateful.
But as far as you were concerned, it didn't matter what she had "provided" you with, she was ill-tempered and had ruined your life. Tenya looked horrified and pressed a hand over his chest, feeling his skin tingle from where you had repeatedly touched it.
When you realized what you had done, your expression dropped, and you pressed your hands over your mouth. "Mm..." acting quickly, you turned around and hoped he didn't see you had broken your composure. You took a deep breath and gave a soft, "Hm," before walking back to your door.
"Goodbye," you said, half-heartedly which made him frown. "I'm afraid I cannot leave until you have answered my question," you paused and looked at him from over your shoulder. "What?" you hissed in reply, who the hell did he think he was? He sensed your slight hostility, but he was not going to back down.
There was something about you. A certain sadness or frustration seemed to cause a tremendous burden on your shoulders, and he would not let it crush you. Even if you refused his help, he would continue to try and reach out to you, for that's what true heroes did.
"I insist that you accompany Midoriya, Uraraka, and myself in the activity of watching movies," you knitted your eyebrows together, slowly turning your body to face him. "Are you asking or demanding?" Or was he only asking to make fun of the fact you had no friends?
No, he wasn't like that. It wasn't in his nature. So then why...you clenched your jaw again, feeling your eyes slightly water over. 'Don't trust anyone' your mother's words echoed in the back of your mind and you almost wanted to grasp your head and scream for her to shut up.
But you couldn't, at least not in front of Tenya. 'Should I...' you looked into his eyes, wanting to see deceit. But instead, you saw honesty which caused a heavy feeling in your chest. "I..." you grasped your opposite arm and shyly glanced away.
It was amazing how quickly you could bounce between emotions, but despite everything your mother taught you, that feeling of wanting to change, of wanting to prove her wrong continued to burn furiously. You crossed your arms and glanced up.
“Guess it would pass the time,” you replied, turning your head to the side in hopes he couldn't see your now red-tinted cheeks. “Do you do this with everyone?” you questioned, "Why of course!" he replied, pointing his hand toward the ceiling.
He rapidly moved it as he continued to speak, “As class president, it's my duty to ensure that all students effectively communicate and connect with one another,” he explained, “and I do not wish to see you continue to avoid attempts at creating new friendships," his hand came to a sudden stop.
'Avoid attempts?' your eyes widened, so he noticed your behavior. No doubt others did as well, but they didn't directly address it as he had. "Oh..." you replied, glancing away from him. The tension in the air seemed to grow thicker, making you feel as if you were suffocating.
You needed to answer his question, but how? "Um…" you latched onto your bottom lip, nervously chewing it before replying. "I uh, yeah movie marathon sounds good." You wanted to smile, but you couldn’t fake emotions.
Not that you showed many to begin with, but regardless Tenya seemed overjoyed that you accepted his invitation. "Very well!" he suddenly exclaimed, straightening his posture. "Please follow me." You noticed how bubbly his voice sounded and wondered if he was actually that happy to be able to spend time with you.
"Okay..." you said, feeling a tinge of guilt. Was it because you were going against what your mother taught you to believe? You weren't sure, but you could feel your stomach twist the nearer you got to the living room, and almost felt nauseous when you saw Izuku and Ochaco.
"Y/n!" she called happily waving her hand. You stopped a foot or two from the couch, wondering if it was too late to turn back and run. No, you couldn't do that. Even if you couldn't trust them, what harm did watching movies with them do?
Still, you couldn't help but freeze up, how were you supposed to respond? You glanced at the floor, biting your lip hard enough to draw blood. "Huh?" Izuku was the first to notice this and hesitantly raised his hand.
"Uh Y/n," he shyly said, "a-are you alright?" His question caught Tenya's attention and he turned around. Biting your lip that hard couldn't be good and once again he felt the urge to address what was wrong. But he was yet again stopped, this time by your subtle nod.
"Mm..." his body felt tense, but he pushed any negative feelings aside. "Would you favor sitting on the couch with us?" he questioned, gesturing his hand to the piece of furniture. You shook your head, "I..." you hesitated when a dull ache coursed through your bottom lip.
Lapping your tongue over it, you felt the indentation from your teeth and tasted a slight iron-like flavor. "I can sit in the chair, thank you," with that, you quickly shuffled past the couch and plopped down into the said chair.
An awkward tension filled the air and continued to suffocate you even after the first movie started, and throughout the hours that passed you avoided any attempts at conversation, and even when you replied to a comment or question, you kept it brief and to the point.
When the marathon finally stopped, you got up and proceeded to walk toward the hallway. "Wait!" Ochaco shouted, leaning over Tenya to stretch her hand out to you. He looked bewildered and almost offended by her actions.
You stopped and looked over your shoulder at her. You said nothing in response, believing that she would take the hint you were done for the day. "Um..." she felt her cheeks flush and leaned back. "Do you...wanna hang out with us tomorrow?" she asked, and both Izuku and Tenya looked at her confused.
"Forgive me, did we have a scheduled activity planned for tomorrow?" he questioned only to receive Ochaco's glare in response. "Shh!" she said before leaning down to whisper, "This is our chance to find out more about her! Just go with it!" She turned to Izuku, "You too," she added before focusing her attention back on you.
"We were planning to go to the mall! Why don't you come along?" your eyes widened and once again your mother's words echoed inside your head. "I..." Tenya stood up from the couch and began to approach you.
You gasped softly and curled your hands up to your chest, taking a step back. He noticed your hesitancy and stopped in his tracks, "Apologies, I did not mean to frighten you," he said sincerely. Once again in the back of his mind, he felt the urge to want to know what caused you to react in such a way.
"But I believe it would be a wonderful opportunity for you to continue to expand your social skills if you were to accompany us on our scheduled trip to the mall," he knew that Ochaco had lied given the fact he would recall scheduling time to hang out with his friends.
"Um…" you glanced at the floor, did he really want you to go with him? With his friends? Tenya frowned, sensing your uncertainty. "Perhaps you can join us if you so desire," he suggested, causing your head to snap up.
"W-what?" you asked in disbelief. Although his expression said it all, and you felt your stomach twist into knots at the nobility that shined in his eyes. "Oh...right," you said, turning to walk down the hallway and back to your room.
"Iida, why did you say all that!?" Ochaco cried out with her hands balled into fists. He turned to her, raising his hand in the air. "If we wish to form a friendship with Y/n, then it cannot be forced," he concluded, chopping his hand through the air rapidly.
"She must come to us when she only chooses to and when we have established a proper bond of trust with her," he explained causing Ochaco to frown and tilt her head to the side. "I...I agree with Iida," Izuku suddenly spoke up and shyly turned away when she looked at him.
Curling his hands in his lap, he continued speaking. "If we want Y/n to t-trust us or anybody then we can't...we can't force it on her. We must show her how much she means to us and to the r-rest of our class," he explained, and Ochaco glanced to the side thinking over both of her friend's words.
Then she sighed and slumped her shoulders. "I guess you guys are right," she said, looking down the hallway. "Do you think she'll accept our invitation to the mall?" she asked, obviously worried. "Perhaps it's best if we do not overthink it," Tenya stated before pulling out his phone.
"It is now 10 minutes to curfew," he said, sliding the phone back into his pocket. "I believe it's best if we begin our bedtime routines now," Izuku and Ochaco looked at him with disbelief, but this was Tenya, and he was very strict about scheduling. "Fine," they replied in unison.
You took several deep breaths as you sat on your bed with your knees pulled up to your chest. The only light source in your room was your phone screen and you were mindlessly scrolling through the text messages your mother had sent you.
It was the same thing repeatedly, lines upon lines of messages telling you not to trust anyone and you felt your heart sink further and further into your chest before you locked your phone and slid it under your pillow.
A long sigh came before you allowed yourself to fall sideways and nuzzled your head into the pillow. 'What am I going to do tomorrow?' you thought, squeezing your eyes shut and praying that you could get sleep tonight.
The next morning, you woke up to find your phone missing and began frantically searching for it. You must have been making a bit of commotion because you heard knocking on your door and opened it to find Ochaco, Tsuyu, and Momo looking concerned.
"What's the matter, are you okay?" Ochaco was the first to speak up and you trembled in response, wondering if you should lie and leave well enough alone. But without your phone, you'd miss your mother's calls and that was just asking for trouble.
"I can't find my phone," you replied, looking away from them. "Where did you last put it?" Tsuyu questioned, peeking her head inside your room. "I..." you latched onto your lip and curled your hand into your hair. "I put it under my pillow before I went to sleep..." you said, pointing to your bed.
"But when I woke up, it wasn't there," you explained, feeling your stomach twist. How was that even possible? No one could have come into your room without you hearing them, right? "Maybe it fell under the bed?" Momo suggested before stepping into your room despite the fact she had not asked permission.
"Why don't we help you look?" she suggested, "I'm not sure-" they ignored you and began searching around your room which made you feel just a tad angry. An hour passed, and after a thorough search of your room, you concluded that your phone was nowhere to be found.
You groaned and sat on your bed with your face covered, trying to fight back the tears forming. Ochaco frowned and crouched down in front of you. "Hey," she said in a soft voice before reaching over to lay her hand on your knee.
You flinched, looking horrified that she had touched you. "Heh, um...sorry," she rubbed the side of her head, "maybe you'll find your phone later? In fact, maybe you can come to the mall with us today...you know to get your mind off your phone?" she suggested.
You narrowed your eyes, feeling a tingle of suspicion but what other option did you have? Maybe your mother wouldn't freak out if you missed a call or two? You weren't sure, but you knew you couldn't let her rule your life forever.
You sighed, "Fine," you said crossing your arms. Ochaco squealed and jumped to her feet. "Great!" she exclaimed, practically beaming. "I'll go tell Midoriya and Iida," with that, she ran out of your room. "Mm..." you glanced to the side and Momo and Tsuyu looked at each other.
"We'll see if anyone else knows where your phone is while you’re gone," she assured, and you sighed. "Thanks..." you muttered, not that you trusted her to tell you when and if your phone was found. "Why don't we leave so you can get ready? Ribbit," Tsuyu suggested, guiding Momo over to your door.
"I hope you have fun at the mall," Momo said before the two of them finally left. You fisted your hands into your hair. "I don't even have anything to wear!" you exclaimed, clearly panicking. But you didn't dress to impress so it didn't really matter what you wore.
You felt your stomach twist when, yet another person walked by and gave you a strange look. "Mm…" you crossed your arms, wondering why you had even agreed to come to the mall in the first place. It was ridiculous to think you had tried to fit in with Izuku, Tenya, and Ochaco.
"Hey, come on Y/n! We're going to try this new ice cream place!" you frowned, wondering how Ochaco appeared so happy all the time. Didn't she get tired of that? "I h-heard it's really...um really good!" Izuku exclaimed nervously, and your eyes drifted to Tenya, who was wearing a smile.
How is it that his facial expressions seemed more sincere than others? "Yes, I took the liberty to read all the present reviews and have determined what are the most preferred flavors," you felt your chest lighten for a moment.
"Mm..." maybe it was your lack of judgment now, but you decided to join them. Although the line was rather long and by the time you made it to the front there were very few flavors to choose from. "Well, at least we got something!" Ochaco said before resuming eating her ice cream cone.
"Mmhm," Izuku said before taking another lick of his. Tenya would take one lick and dab the corners of his mouth before continuing. Unlike them, you hadn't touched your ice cream cone because you suddenly felt your appetite vanish.
"Is there something wrong with your frozen dessert?" Tenya spoke up causing you to snap your head at him, strangely you felt your heart speed up when you looked at him and shook your head. "No, it's just-" a loud alarm echoed, and you nearly dropped your ice cream.
"What's going on?!" you shouted and then a voice blared over the alarm, instructing all citizens to evacuate the mall. "Huh, what?!" You looked at the ceiling as people began to walk past you which caused you to panic. You wanted to scramble to get away from them, but there was nowhere to go.
"Ah, help me!" you shouted, feeling several individuals bump into you and you stumbled as you got lost in the wave of people. You felt like you were being suffocated and your vision went blurry, where was Tenya or Ochaco or Izuku!?
You just needed someone familiar right now, someone you could maybe trust for the moment. That was okay to trust someone for one measly moment, right!? You took a dramatic inhale and began to push others out of the way.
Making your way through the crowd despite the angry comments you got in return. You stumbled forward when you finally broke free of the sea of people and caught yourself on a nearby directory. You pressed your hand to your chest, feeling how rapid your heart rate was.
'Breathe, breathe, just breathe!' you thought, hearing as the last of the crowd left. You then leaned your head against the directory, feeling the anxiety and panic slowly fade. But an after feeling of self-pity came. You closed your eyes and slowly turned around, looking at the floor.
"I lost my ice cream...I lost...any potential friends," you glanced to the side, recalling how you shouted for help when you were swept into the crowd. "I guess I really can't trust anyone," you muttered, feeling your eyes water over.
Your hands curled into the front of your shirt. 'Maybe Mom was right...' you thought before hearing an all too familiar voice scream, "There you are!" which caused you to lift your head. Your eyes widened at the sight before you.
A middle-aged woman with slicked-back blonde hair and cold lifeless turquoise eyes stood before you. She was wearing a black suit jacket, with a purple shirt underneath it and a matching purple skirt with a strange, almost pearl-looking necklace.
"M-Mo-" you were interrupted when someone landed beside her. He had large red wings and messy blond hair. He wore a yellow-tinted visor and a tan high-collar jacket lined with white fur. He also had yellow headphones draped around his neck and black gloves on his hands.
You also noticed he had square earrings which were almost as red as his wings. "Alright, the place is secure. Will that be all Madam President?" he asked, and your mother kept her eyes locked on you as she responded, "That will be all Hawks, resume your regular duties," she instructed, and he nodded in response.
"Can do," he said with a smile before turning to look at you. "Good luck kid, sorry about that alarm and all. But I can't go against orders," he said gesturing to your mother before spreading his wings and taking off, leaving a few feathers to flutter through the air before hitting the floor.
Your eyebrows knitted together, and you looked at your mother who continued to scowl. "Y-you made the alarm go off?" You questioned and felt your anxiety begin to rise as she walked over to you with her heels echoing through the now-empty mall.
"Just what did you think you were doing?" she asked, keeping her hands folded in front of her. A moment of silence came, and you opened your mouth, "W-well I..." she narrowed her eyes. "You didn't answer my calls," she said.
"I c-couldn't find my phone," you replied, your voice cracking slightly. "And just what happened to it?" she demanded, closing the distance between the two of you and making you feel suffocated again. "I...I don-" you yelped when she reached out and grabbed your wrist.
"You don't know?" she repeated before turning her head and sighing. "I knew it was a mistake to let you enroll at Yuuei," her words made your heart sink and you wanted to tell her she was wrong, but somehow your voice was frozen in your throat even as the grip on your wrist tightened.
She yanked you forward and leaned down to be face-to-face with you. "This world is full of people that will betray you! Has my career taught you nothing!?" she hissed out, and you opened your mouth to speak but nothing came out.
Yes, you knew of your mother's career. She was the head of the Hero Public Safety Commission, with a lot of burden on her shoulders. But beyond that, you weren't familiar with the inner workings of what she did. You were not aware that she allowed the heroes under her command to murder and kill in certain circumstances.
All you knew is that all your life, all you ever heard was to never trust anyone. "Come," she said before turning around and forcibly dragging you along. "W-wait!" you stuttered out, trying to pull away from her, but it was of no use.
"You are going to drop out of Yuuei and enroll at I-Island Academy," it felt as if your heart stopped beating when she spoke those words. "W-what!?" you exclaimed, trying to press your feet into the floor but to no avail. She didn't respond, and you clenched your jaw.
You had a feeling she only wanted to enroll you at I-Island because you couldn't escape, it was like a prison. She never listened to you and whenever you tried to do something on your own, she always found a way to ruin it. Then again, you hadn't exactly made any friends and it was highly unlikely that they'd miss you.
'What was I even thinking?' You frowned and once again focused your attention on the floor. 'None of them really tried to connect to me and even when they did it felt like fake sympathy,' the image of Tenya suddenly came to your mind, making you gasp.
Wait...that's right, he wasn't like that. The way he looked at you wasn't with pity or sympathy. He had your best intentions in mind and didn't force you to do anything, he gave you a choice. Surely, he wouldn't want you to leave or give up, right?
"Hold on!" you exclaimed, finally finding the strength to rip your arm away from her. She looked shocked, "Y/n!" she snapped, but you ignored her. "I..." you curled your hands into fists, "I don't want to enroll at another school," you paused, shifting your eyes back and forth.
What else could you say? Actually, what had you always wanted to tell her? "I want to stay here at Yuuei and m-make friends and-" you stumbled back when she growled. "Are you going against my orders?" she questioned with a snarl.
"I..." You felt your courage disappear and she must have sensed this because she reached out to grab you again. "Do you know everything I have done for you? The things I have done with the hero commission to keep you safe?! I only ask you to do one thing, do not trust anyone!" she snapped and dug her nails into your arm.
You winced and tried to pull away, feeling tears build in the corners of your eyes. "I've done everything you wanted! I never had a choice in the matter, but now I want...I want to have a choice. I want to stay here and learn to trust everyone, heroes, villains, it doesn't matter!" you snapped, and her eyes darkened.
"I've never given you a choice?" she repeated before leaning down to be face-to-face with you again. "I allowed you to make this choice all by yourself, and you choose to do foolish things like try to make friends," she hissed out.
"I do not know who those three you were hanging out with are, but I'll ensure you never see them again," she said, before continuing to drag you toward the nearest door. "No!" you screamed, trying to claw her hand. "I don't want to go!" you gasped when someone suddenly shouted your name.
Your mother came to a stop, and you turned your head. "Iida!" you said, ignoring the few tears that rolled down your cheeks. "And just what do you want?" your mother questioned, making that brief smile on your face fade.
He stepped closer and you noticed his eyebrows were slit and he wore an angry scowl. "My name is Tenya Iida, and I believe you are forcing this young lady to do something she does not wish to," he said boldly which made your mother's eyes widen.
"How dare you…" she replied before releasing your arm and stomping over to him. "You're one of the hero students poisoning my daughter's mind!" she declared, crossing her arms. He remained standing tall and kept his eyes locked with hers.
"I am afraid I do not know what you are speaking of. Your daughter is fully capable of making her own choices and as class president and her friend, I assure you that even if a mistake is made, I will be by her side to help her through it," he announced nobly, and you smiled yet again only to hear your mother chuckle in response.
"Foolish, all young heroes are foolish," she responded before shaking her head. "What if her choices end with her death or a grave injury? Would you be there to nurse her back to health, take care of her for the rest of her life like I would!?" she snapped, but Tenya remained unphased.
"Ma'am," he said, "I understand that as her mother, you only wish to protect her to the best of your ability. But when you are not present, I will ensure that she remains protected. Regardless of what consequences it brings," he replied causing your mother to scowl yet again.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, feeling more hot tears run down your cheeks and hit the floor below. Did Tenya really care that much about you? No one had ever stood up to your mother before, and it was as if he were putting his life on the line for you.
She bared her teeth at him, "And what if you were assigned to kill her?! Would you protect her or fulfill your orders!?" your breathing came to a stop and your eyes widened, wondering if you had heard her correctly.
Tenya looked at her bewildered before clearing his throat. "A hero does not kill," he stated, although he understood the mindset. When a villain drives you to a certain point and you allow your emotions to cloud your judgment, then it is possible to commit such an atrocious act.
But as a hero, he intended to keep his heart noble and continue to do good as opposed to harm. Your mother chuckled, pressing a hand to her chest as her laughter grew louder and louder. A shiver ran down your spine at the sound of it, and you found yourself running past her and toward Tenya.
He looked confused, but he too was slightly unsettled by the way your mother was reacting. "A hero does not kill" she mockingly repeated, "You hero students are so ignorant!" she snapped. "She's the reason that heroes started killing!" she accused with a pointed finger in your direction.
"W-what?" you replied, stepping away from Tenya. "I advise you to avoid lying ma'am!" he replied, trying to block you from her view. "That's right since the day you were born and your father allowed a villain to kidnap you, to try and take you away from me," you looked at her confused, you never knew your father.
"That's when I ordered heroes to kill, not just villains but anyone who is an absolute danger!" She looked more demented by the second and you suddenly felt the realization hit you. "T-that means...D-Dad was..." you trembled, feeling utterly horrified.
What on Earth was wrong with her? You knew a little bit about the incident that happened when you were a baby, but you assumed everything was taken care of legally. You didn't know your mother had ordered your kidnapper and father to be killed.
"Now come Y/n, you see why I tell you not to trust anyone? Come home with me, and I'll keep you safe," she insisted holding out her arms, but you took a step back. "I advise you to leave," Tenya said, clearly irritated and ready to charge into action if necessary.
She paused and gave a subtle growl, "Move!" she snapped and lifted her hand. You didn't see what had happened, but you heard a slap echo followed by the sound of Tenya's glasses hitting the floor with such force his lenses broke.
You gasped and looked up, seeing that his head was turned, and a deep red hand mark imprinted his cheek. You trembled, feeling useless. What were you supposed to do or say? Your mother smiled and walked around Tenya and stood in front of you with her hand held out.
"Let's go, Y/n," she demanded, and you looked at her hand before taking a step back causing her eyes to narrow. "Y/n" she repeated sternly, but before you could respond, a loud bang sounded followed by a billow of smoke.
"Huh!?" before you could blink, Tenya scooped you into his arms and took off running. The doors to the mall flew open and the world became a blur as he shifted his gears to gain as much distance between you and your mother as possible.
Your stomach twisted, and you felt nauseous by the time Tenya stopped. He was panting, but surely that wasn't because he exhausted himself, right? When he put you down on your feet, you began to tremble, and it wasn't due to the bitter air around you.
Rather it was because of the scary interaction you had just experienced. You weren't sure what was going to happen, but all your thoughts vanished when you looked at Tenya and noticed that the red handprint on his face remained.
You frowned and reached up, gently cupping his face. You felt an immense amount of guilt fill your heart and this caused tears to begin to stream down your face. "D-does it hurt?" you asked as he glanced down at you.
"Please do not worry about me, I am quite glad I was able to act as a hero should and save you from any unwanted danger," he stated, though his cheek did hurt and more than likely would bruise. But that was a mere scratch in comparison to the injuries true heroes received in the line of duty.
You knitted your eyebrows together, looking at him confused. He ignored this and reached into his pocket to pull out a handkerchief which he used to gently dab your tears away. Your eyes widened, and your bottom lip trembled.
"W-why are you…" he paused, looking at you with concern. "Forgive me, am I making you uncomfortable?" he asked before you shook your head and hiccupped. Then in a broken stutter, you said, "W-why are you being…so nice to me…a-after everything I've done after everything m-my mother has done to you?"
That concerned look turned to one of confusion and he looked at you with his eyebrows slanted and his mouth slightly agape. "I'm afraid I do not understand," he replied, and honestly, what did you expect. "W-what just happened with…a-and the way I've been-" you sobbed and frantically wiped your eyes.
Tenya grasped your shoulders seconds later. "Please do not do that, it's liable to cause more irritation," he advised before once again wiping your eyes with his handkerchief. "I was merely acting as a hero should, as far as your mother is concerned, please accept my apologies," you looked at him confused.
"W-what do you mean?" He had nothing to apologize for. He frowned and took a step away from you. "I believe I had stated that it was unjust for you to speak about your mother in any ill manner, but I did not realize she treated you in such an unjust way, I apologize," he said, bowing in front of you.
Your eyes widened, and you gave an awkward chuckle. "Oh that, well..." you frowned and folded your hands in front of you. "It's okay, it's just...she's always been like that and..." you shook your head. "Enough about that," you said, trying to turn the spotlight on him once more.
"We need to get your face looked at," you insisted, stepping forward when he leaned back up. But he seemed intent on continuing your current conversation. "I am uncertain why your mother would act in such a manner, but it's clear she is the reason you act rather introverted and secluded," your frown deepened.
"Um well..." you tapped your index fingers together, unsure of what to say. Maybe he was right, but it was also your fault. "I let her have too much power over me..." you explained, slumping your shoulders with a sigh. "I'm so weak..." you whispered, feeling your chest grow heavy.
"I'm afraid I must disagree," he stated, catching you by surprise. "What?" you asked, looking back at him. "You are quite strong for displaying such caring nature despite having grown up in the negative environment your mother created," he stated as he took a step closer, tucking his handkerchief back into his pocket.
"Um..." you felt the urge to take a step back but forced yourself to remain where you were. No, you were going to trust him. Trust someone for once. "I know very few who would continue to care for others more than themselves when in your position," he said, glancing down.
He swallowed and held his hand out, "May I?" he asked, and your heart accelerated. Did he want to hold your hand and if so, why? You latched onto your bottom lip and, despite trembling, slowly raised your hand and gasped when he took hold of it.
Then he smiled at you, despite the small ache he felt radiating from his injured cheek. "I believe that makes you a true hero and I find your personality to be very attractive and attentive, I do not wish for you to believe otherwise," he stated, causing you to flush furiously.
"And to see you become so overwhelmed with emotion to the point where tears stain your face, I…I cannot help but want to be the cause that allows you to smile once more," he said, and once again that heavy feeling in your chest seemed to lighten.
You sniffled softly, giving him a brief smile that apparently seemed to mean the world to him, then you opened your mouth to speak only to be interrupted when Ochaco yelled, "Guys!" and caused both your heads to turn.
She had her hand held up, waving it like mad with Izuku trailing right behind her. "Oh heh," you pulled your hand away from Tenya's and folded both behind your back as your friends approached, could you call them friends?
"We were looking for you everywhere after the alarm went off, what happened?" she asked, pressing her hands to her chest. "Y-yeah, I mean I got a text from Iida saying he was s-still inside the mall even after the alarm w-went off, is everything okay?" Izuku asked, clearly worried.
Tenya turned to face them and ignored the way they flinched. "Iida what happened!?" Ochaco exclaimed when she noticed the red handprint on the side of his face. Izuku was just as surprised, and in addition to the mark on his friend's face, he noticed he was missing his glasses.
"D-do you need some help getting back to the...the d-dorm because your glasses..." he gestured to his face and watched as Tenya closed his eyes. "It's quite alright," he replied, "I am afraid I did have a small confrontation within the mall, but it is resolved for now," he said before turning to look at you.
Your smile had faded, and you were now wearing another frown. He stepped closer to you and laid his hand on your shoulder. "Y/n was involved in the confrontation as well," you jumped and looked at him bewildered, just what the hell was he trying to do?
"However, she acted with courage and fair judgment, even when I had received this trivial injury," he said, reaching up to run his fingers down his cheek. He could feel how his skin recoiled and throbbed dully with pain, but once again he reminded himself that this was nothing compared to the injuries some heroes receive.
"What, really?" Ochaco turned to look at you and her face was twisted with concern. "Are you okay?" she asked, "Are, are…you both okay?" Izuku corrected her. Tenya kept his gaze on you for a few more moments before turning to look back at them.
"Perhaps it would be best if we returned to the dormitory," he suggested and Izuku nodded. "Y-yeah, um...we should probably get some ice for your f-face, right?" As amusing as the question was, Tenya replied with a simple nod.
"Please go ahead of us, I believe Y/n would be more comfortable walking by my side," he suggested and ignored the look of surprise that came to his friend's faces. "Oh um, s-sure," Izuku replied before turning to Ochaco who nodded, and with that, the two of them took a head start.
"Hey," Ochaco said when she believed you and Tenya were a far enough distance away not to hear her, "What do you think actually happened between Y/n and Iida?" she asked in a whisper. Izuku clasped his chin in thought, "I'm not sure..." he replied, before glancing over his shoulder.
You and Tenya seemed awfully close now, and the way you were holding his arm indicated that something frightening had happened. You never previously allowed anyone near you, which meant maybe..."Did Iida help find her phone?" he suggested, only to hear Ochaco laugh.
"No, that couldn't be," she said, shaking her head. Izuku raised his eyebrow, "W-what do you mean?" he asked, clearly not understanding the situation. She smiled and reached into her pocket, flashing your phone at him.
"You took…h-her phone?" he asked, slightly panicked. Ochaco nodded, "Mmhm!" she replied. "B-but how did you-" she grinned and slipped your phone back into her pocket before holding up her hands to show her unusual fingertips.
"It's kind of easy to go undetected when you're lighter than air," she replied with a giggle. "I'll give her the phone later," she smiled and looked over her shoulder. "I'm glad they seem so close now," she said and Izuku nodded.
She continued to smile, even as she turned back to look ahead of her. "Now maybe Y/n will open up to more people, I knew Iida could be the one to break down her walls," she said cheerfully. "Yeah, Iida is amazing and I'm sure Y-Y/n is amazing too," Izuku said, and she nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, I can't wait to see what they do together," although you were unaware of the conversation taking place, you didn't miss the way both turned back to look at you and Tenya several times. Then again, could you blame them?
You and Tenya were probably a strange sight, but you didn't want to think about that. You didn't even want to think about your mother or what was to come. You just wanted to enjoy the moment, enjoy knowing that you could trust someone for the time being.
Regardless of what happened, you were grateful that Tenya had made you realize that despite your mother's opposing ways, you were strong no matter what and it was that strength that you could use as a weapon. Even if you ended up trusting someone you shouldn't, you could overcome the hurt.
"H-hey," you said, tightening your grip on his arm. "Hm, yes?" he replied, turning to look at you. "I just w-wanted to say thanks, for everything a-and um...if...if my mother gets her way and I h-have to go to another school I just w-wan-" Tenya came to a sudden stop.
"I would not allow that," he stated in a deep and authoritative voice. You wanted to believe his words; you really did. "But…" you glanced away, "s-she's the head of the Hero Public Safety Commission and-" you stopped speaking when he raised his hand in the air.
"I understand that your mother is in quite a powerful position, but a hero is as well and at times, if needed they will do whatever is within their power to help others even if they must break the rules and guidelines of society to do so," he explained, lightly chopping said hand through the air.
The corner of your mouth twitched, and a few seconds passed before you gave a half smile, it was noble of him to think that way. But you didn't peg him as someone capable of breaking rules. "I do not believe I can forgive her for what she has done to you," honestly, you weren't sure if you could forgive her either.
You gasped when he leaned down to your height causing you to flush and your heart to speed up again, especially when you looked into his deep red eyes. They were full of such determination and fury; it was rather intimidating.
"I will do what is within my power to keep you here," he promised, and once again you felt yourself becoming overwhelmed and your eyes watered over. "T-thank you," he frowned and reached into his pocket for his handkerchief, handing it to you.
"You are quite welcome, I am certain the rest of Class A feels the same," he assured, and you nodded while wiping your eyes with the soft cloth he had given you. "Perhaps after we have taken care of everything, we can relax and watch a movie?" he suggested causing you to chuckle.
"L-like a date?" you teased, and he leaned back, feeling his cheeks heat up. "I...I suppose that is one way to describe it," you snickered before smiling. "I'd like that..." you said, "Hey!" Ochaco shouted. "Hm?" you turned your head to see that she and Izuku had stopped.
"Are you guys coming?" she asked, waving her arm in the air. "Yes, of course," Tenya replied before he resumed walking, and you trailed right beside him with your heart fluttering in your chest. This was the change you were looking for and although it was scary, you would keep on smiling because you knew you were going to be fine.

lost in the forest - part 5
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Summary: Both leaders take classes with the unwilling teacher, and she is reminded of her current state.
Pairing: Senju Tobirama/Original Female Character
Tag: #lost in the forest fic
posted on ao3
Word Count: 2k
So... this part was difficult to translate, considering how the original was written. The next chapters will contain more two-language conversations, so I will try to translate the expressions and figures of speech as best as I can
Overall warnings: canon-typical violence, adult content, time skips, angst, kidnapping
Tumblr media
She wants to murder these people, she is sure of that remembering bitterly how difficult it is to teach people without being an educator. That is why she chose marketing! There you only see numbers, statistics, market research... purchasing behaviors! Not a couple of adults quite frustrating.
Karen wants to throw in the towel.
She glares at those red eyes that return an intense discussion of few learned words. How can she explain the grammatical rules? The gerund, the subject, predicate and even worse the tenses... It’s difficult. She would have been better off opting for German or Spanish.
It’s easier than her native language.
She hates her past self who thought it would be good to speak to them with this language. She purses her lips at who continues to question as a very intense logical person. Tobirama turned out to be the worst student when he questions the rules so much. Hashirama is less intense and natural.
This guy is structured, conventional... hateful!
So it all comes down to her usual room with more papers scattered on the walls in her attempt to be a teacher who gives her ideas and a better understanding of her language. Of course there is progress, she does not deny that it is surprising how quickly they both adapt when she struggled so much when learning Spanish. It took her years... after that the other languages were easier.
Because by throwing yourself into work of that style you are forced to learn hard.
“Look, the subject is the person of the statement...”, she begins slowly. At least he has stopped frowning and although slowly he gradually to understand her. Of course that is what she wants to believe when she knows that both their bases are different.
She bitterly curses Master Tanaka. Why aren’t the Eastern root languages easier? She snorts indignantly.
“Not understand,” the man simply says in his rough tone, not at all friendly and without any type of conjugation.
How did she learn Spanish? Ah yes... first she spoke then she understood the basics.
Something that Hashirama skillfully applies.
“You do not have to understand the rules first, you know?”, she bites in her simple tone. It’s confusing to be in the same room. Her things are scattered. There have been hard days of confrontations over things so stupid her head hurts.
She wants a coke. Too bad there isn’t one here.
“Not understand,” the man insists crossing his arms. “Not explain well.”
“I’m not a teacher,” the woman now sitting says without any care. “Although I have to admit that there are better students,” she sighs keeping to herself the ease with which they have adapted.
“Mmmm...” Tobirama doesn’t say anything and looks at the papers. “Exercises,” he gives her a blank parchment, typical of someone who is unkind and doesn’t know how to ask for things.
“At least say please,” Karen points to one of her drawings where the basic manners that were tattooed on her soul as a child are expressed in a basic way.
“Mph...” The albino does not comment. “Not have,” he throws shortly with an insolent arch.
“Despicable,” Karen simply sighs reluctantly taking that sheet. “Dinner?” She ignores the intense look of someone who wants to decipher her lines with so little. The man is usually better at writing than his partner... taking this as a personal challenge.
Although she swears that Hashirama has more fun since his brilliant idea or learning.
Why did she choose to teach them? Ah, yes... she needs more to communicate... such as, for example, asking exactly where she is.
She snorts again, gives some verbs, short verses and conjugations that she remembers, and sighs. Basic education is essential, but she learned it a long time ago and she forgot so many things that it is very difficult to explain. “Look, do this.”
“Mmmm...” The man doesn’t say anything.
“Dinner?”, she asks again seeing how she was ignored.
“Usual time,” he simplifies with short comments, turning his back on her and leaving without any kind of extra expression. He is cold, rude and intense. Tobirama is still not her favorite person, but at least now he is more passable.
Although he continues to look at her like a lab mouse.
She looks at the door again, not wanting to take another important step outside. Hashirama indicated that she could leave but not go beyond a certain perimeter for some reason that they simply couldn’t explain, although an internal voice was more of not wanting to... She still feels kidnapped, but she receives a bath and more humane treatment.
She could complain more but she doesn’t ask for much when she sees that life is rustic. They are distrustful and observant. She doesn’t know what they do, but she thinks it looks like something military, always looking over their shoulders and exchanging whispers that she doesn’t understand.
She does not want to ponder too much on her little analysis, it is better to rest before the mean because her pain increases as she focuses on deciphering the type of culture beyond the oriental one that she has captured. She settles and closes her eyes to think about her bad luck.
She misses her family... She denies to fall into depression again, because this progress is already done... and what is done, is done, so she tries not to see the negative in the matter.
The kidnapped girl simply settles in... she no longer wants to think.
If not, she will cry again.
──
She has discovered that the house is lonely at all hours. She brightens up and goes out one afternoon on the fourth day of the week when none of her annoying visitors have come. They have plenty of time and she refuses to accept that she feels alone, depressed and missed by such absences.
Hashirama’s only. Tobirama is irritatingly calm.
Not even her usual escorts have come to take her to take a bath. Something is happening and she is bothered by the discomfort of missing out on whatever is going on beyond the thick forest. She stands on the edge listening to the birds in the distance and her nose fills with the clean aroma of nature.
This is very different even from her destination travel place, now that she thinks about it... How did she get here? She has gone through so many crises that being calm gives her anxiety. She shouldn’t feel like that, she should fight, search and locate herself to be able to return home.
However, she has confirmed that the constellations are not the same. She does not want to ask for a map to prove the stupid theory that has been going through her head since she first saw them. Those absurd ideas of fictional stories that her sister loves to watch...
She misses her family, her friends, even her job...
“You should not be here.” Someone scares her. Tobirama gives her a rather strange look that makes her more uncomfortable than normal. Light bandages are visible under the simple yukata.
“Your conjugation is correct,” she focuses better when she sees that she should not be interested in the man’s wounds. She pretends not to see them, not to notice them so she can sigh.
“You should not leave the house,” he warns without changing his cold tone. Karen crosses her arms frowning. A voice advices her not to play hard to get... she sees the features of the man’s white face so strangely tense.
“I wasn’t going to go to the forest.”
“That is not what I said.”
“Mmmm... someone is being mean, more than usual.”
“Karen,” the man warns with his neat tone in an austere touch, crosses his arms and watches his steps seriously without bothering to explain things. He never does but today it feels different.
“Well... dinner?”
“There will not be any.”
“No?”, she frowns. She doesn’t like the company, but she doesn’t complain for now. She feels she shouldn’t.
“No.”
“I can make something.”
“No.”
“But...”
“...”
Karen tenses up and swallows a strong lump in her throat because of whatever the look transmitted to her with a quick shiver, very different from the first time. She doesn’t say anything, so she turns around with her heart racing because of such a strange emotion she has felt. She walks swiftly and quickens his pace not bothering to see if the company is following her.
She closes the door and goes to bed automatically not wanting to reply. The person remains expectant.
Karen has to admit that it was uncomfortable. She didn’t sleep well without wanting to face that person’s murderous harshness.
Reminding her that she is still kidnapped... and not everyone is Hashirama.
──
She doesn’t say anything. Karen stays locked up for the next few days with no desire to go out... There is silence, almost like the first days she was there. She hasn’t bathed and although her hair is tough, she has managed to tie it to a messy bun.
Mikami hasn’t come. Tobirama hasn’t shown up either, thank God, since that annoying night and without asking about Hashirama.
She remains alone. There has been no food other than bread and rice as always. There is no meat like the last few times. Although it lacks the flavor or softness of the seasoning of her land, she ate it, today conspicuous by its absence.
“[...]” Someone opens the door. Karen does not turn around, not wanting to face somebody that gives her the murderous coldness of Tobirama. She hears the voice as it approaches her which makes her curious enough to turn around and frowns at not being known.
“Mikami?”, she asks for her usual companion. She was austere, a rather suspicious lady who always treater her since she arrived at this place. Hashirama had told her her name as soon as she understood her language a little more.
She doesn’t smile at her. She looks young compared to the former escort, which makes the newcomer at the question.
She doesn’t say anything. She speaks in her native language with foreign touches, her gaze is dead but not aggressive... just like Tobirama she has some wounds that she simply ignores.
She presses her lips together. “Are you okay?”, she makes gestures. Not that she was in the top of her favorite people ranking considering how rude she was during her first bath and the judgmental looks she gave her every time she talked to one of the men who visited her.
But she is a regular person. She understood her fixations a little but more and she was not that difficult to deal with after several days of coldness. She was passable... and this one is completely strange, almost hostile.
She shakes her head. She hands her a towel and stands by the door.
She frowns. “[...]”, the stranger continues with a dry order that lacks the flat touch of her precious visit. She purses her lips, looks at her state and sighs, leaving the topic for now when she understands that they will be taking her to the bathroom after not letting her go out.
She wants to ask so many questions, express her annoyance and perhaps throw a tantrum. The latter not so much. She is not a little girl not to understand that, despite the language barrier and the absence of her only two possible translators, she can sense that something serious happened.
The woman walks behind. She feels her intense gaze as she walks down the hallway. “Tobirama? Hashirama?”, she asks continuing to walk with her and feels a slight chill that she ignores until she reaches the point where more ladies were looking at her. They are all different, although one or two she can see have light bandages under their rustic yukata.
She sighs... she tries not to give them too much trouble so she undresses easily, removes the annoying bra substitute and the strange panties that she’s gotten used to, and gets into the bathtub with a trained ease.
Usually the women talked among themselves, they judged her as they rubbed her or poured things on her body whose reaction they no longer caused her. Today there is silence, almost funereal that makes her remember the death of her grandmother.
It doesn’t mean that this is... or is it? But she can’t really talk to anyone... not when his two apprentices don’t come, but at least they respect their routines.
What exactly are they doing?
Tumblr media
A/N: As you will see, I will try to put more of her point of view, who is the focus of attention of others. Even if she doesn't want to she fails as a teacher, but she fights and is oblivious to the fact that the two people she teaches are prodigies... I always considered that both Senju were the best of their clan even after years.
Their learning ability is almost envious and she curses the fact that she did not choose Spanish as the base language in this place, but she felt comfortable with her mother tongue...plus she has more experience than with the others, forgetting the grammatical rules and other things. She now understands why they said that English is not that easy to learn.
Not to mention the slang or synonyms we pull out of our sleeves, a valid complaint I hear from those who learned English.
So poor thing. However, something happened... something that keeps the girl oblivious, in addition to causing a step back from the social progress she had had in the place, which, although null and still feeling like kidnapped, made her remember her position at this point.
They are not friends at the end of the day... many seeing her as a burden, the annoying pet of their clan leader.
Something Karen doesn't know... gaining enemies without knowing it.
Thank you for your comments. For now this is the only thing I can add: this woman will have a hard time…. easy, I don't know, we will discover it little by little.
Author-chan out!
