I'm bored. mcsm hcs time
jesse (any prns, bday dec 31st)
genderfluid
reuben helped them sleep, so after they lost him, they had trouble sleeping for years upon years
their music taste is anything and everything. they will go to listening from k-pop to death metal and be unfazed
jesse was fairly little when they met reuben (thinking abt 4-ish??)
they have brightly colored highlights in their hair, and it's style is short and fluffy/messy-looking
only child
doesn't want to get gender surgeries or take hormones or anything
played trumpet in middle school marching band. I'm so sorry for doing them dirty like this but it's the vibes
probably survives off of caffeine. however, this habit got better after they got radar to help
they couldn’t sleep for at least a week after reuben's death, but then they started sleeping with a plushy (probably of a pig), which slowly helped them get back into a semi-regular sleep schedule
they have a nametag necklace with reuben's name engraved on it
petra (she/her, bday feb 20th)
girl kisser. likes kissing women on the lips.
deathly terrified of getting sick. if she got lethally sick before the witherstorm event, she would be like "I'M FINE IT'S NOTHING" but after the witherstorm event if she gets a small cold she freaks tf out
she's a system bc I'm a system and I said so. she has abt five members and has rare splits
her childhood was all over the place
she likes heavier music like green day, blink-182, rob zombie, babymetal, etc.
bassist
did several martial arts and sports as a kid bc she couldn't find one she liked
Idk if I can see her doing marching band but if she did she would be an alto sax player, but like angry section leader alto sax player
lukas is her cousin. she's the only one who gets to call him luke bc that's what he originally went by before changing it to lukas
she's abt three years older than lukas, and she was very present in his childhood. they basically did everything together bc their parents were either fuckasses or straight up not there (L + ratio tbh)
lukas (he/him, bday july 24th)
trans guy. just the vibes
he's a writer. he's into WEIRD GROSS GRAPHIC SHIT. he does not faint when he sees blood or whatever.
while writing his memoir(?) abt the witherstorm journey, he writes so many graphic descriptions abt stuff like petra's illness, inside of the witherstorm, the endermen and other mobs, etc. and asks jesse to read it for criticism and such and then they end up scarred and are like "HUH?? WHO HURT YOU????"
he likes holding his cat like a baby
he's the certified "music nerd" of the group. he thinks his taste is the best
speaking of, he likes stuff like will wood, tally hall/miracle musical, lemon demon, etc. and if anyone ever asks for music recommendations he just fucking appears without warning and talks abt music for three hours
whenever lukas is handed the aux he's like "YOU GUYS WANNA HEAR A BANGER?" and plays 2/3 of a song and talks abt it for another half of it and just does it over again with several songs in a row
played clarinet in middle school-high school band and never wanted to switch bc he was very attached to his instrument
he was also probably a theatre kid. and DEFINITELY a creative writing kid. maybe an art kid too
eventually he started playing electric guitar after school
he used to be *extremely* asocial and introverted, only willingly interacting with his cousin, petra, until he met the ocelots and slowly opened up in his late middle school/early high school years thanks to them
his parents weren't very present in his childhood
throughout most of his childhood he experienced lots of autism related speech loss and was nearly completely nonverbal, but after he started becoming friends with the ocelots, he slowly gained the ability to speak. he still experiences the occasional speech loss to this day, but he's much better than he was a while back
he's the youngest member of the order
one year on t
took a few classes with olivia at one point, but they never rlly talked. he might've glanced at her one or two times tho
picked up traditional art as an extra hobby, still mostly focuses on writing
he has severe gender dysphoria and has had top surgery, but refuses to get bottom surgery, simply bc he doesn't want to.cdespite this, he stills makes jokes abt having a cock
axel (they/he, bday may 7th)
met jesse before olivia met jesse
his music taste consists of only meme songs. the first time he was handed the aux, he played two trucks. the second time he was handed the aux, he rickrolled everybody. he is now banned from the aux.
he's the oldest member of the order
has no idea how sympathy works (real!)
olivia (she/they, bday apr 12th)
former gifted kid vibes. definitely went to a private school at some point
has always looked up to ellegaard since she was little
took a few classes with lukas at one point, but they never rlly talked. olivia prolly thought abt trying to talk to him at one point tho
major art kid vibes
3-4+ years on e, got bottom surgery a little more than a year ago
she drew jesse a picture of reuben shortly after his death to try and cheer them up
radar (he/they, bday oct 16th)
bisexual and questioning if he's non-binary
it's said that he is both jesse's assistant and and intern, so that could mean he's in high school. I debated for a little bit whether he would be a junior or senior but I decided that he would be one of the older juniors (around 17 years old)
sometimes he has to miss/be late to help jesse with work or whatever bc he has schoolwork to do
definitely a hardcore theatre kid.
it's also sorta implied that radar has some sort of crush on jesse so I like to imagine that jesse is like his celebrity crush or whatever. ofc that's never gonna go through as an actual relationship or whatever
radar does mention at one point that he loves seafood so I like to imagine he encourages jesse to try seafood with him and stuff. he also definitely isn't scared to try and actually likes some of the "weird" stuff (ex. tako)
he rlly trusts jesse and likes talking to him bc he doesn't rlly have a good outlet. I like to think jesse just listens/lets him vent
he tries to go help jesse as much as he possibly can bc his home life isn't particularly great (by that I mean it's terrible)
he's the type to go "SO FUNNY STORY-" and then traumadump like it's nothing (srsly get him some therapy)
definitely has a squishmallow collection AND keeps all the tags

Long post ahead.
Yesterday, we moved my grandmother into assisted living. I’ve been up here in Pocahontas for most of the week helping my mom pack and spending time with my precious MiMi, who had multiple strokes at the end of last year and cannot take care of herself anymore.
And she’s been looking forward to moving into her new place. It’s back in her hometown of Jonesboro, where some of our family still lives. She has multiple friends and old neighbors that are in this exact facility, and she makes new friends as effortlessly as breathing. My mom is staying with her there for a few days, and said that she’s doing well so far.
I know this is the right decision, and that she’ll be happier and safer. But the change has been surprisingly emotional for me. It’s not a shock that she moved, because she was talking about wanting to do this even before her strokes. She is 92 years old, and has experienced the worst moments of her life while living here. I completely understand her wanting to leave.
I stayed here by myself last night, which felt strange and hollow. For most of my life, my grandparents lived in Jonesboro. I was far more attached to those two houses than I am to this one, which they moved into back in 2010. Being here alone feels shockingly lonely…and I’ve lived by myself (with a dog) for several years. But this place—MiMi and PaPa’s house—is supposed to be filled with family.
I should be able to hear my hard-of-hearing PaPa’s booming bass explaining this year’s crop yield, my Uncle Bobby’s wall-shaking laughter, my Aunt Becky’s always-reserved, quiet alto as she cooks the best meal you’ve ever had. But they’re all gone now.
In less than a two-year timeframe, the three of them passed away. My uncle first, dying of an undiagnosed heart condition in his sleep at his home near Seattle. After being informed of his death, my mom and I joined my aunt up here in Pocahontas to break the devastating news to my grandparents. Witnessing the worst moment of their lives is one of the most heartbreaking memories of mine. Just two months later, that same aunt died of cancer, which was diagnosed about a year beforehand. My MiMi was adamant that she was going to be with Aunt Becky as she passed, as she wished she could’ve been with Uncle Bobby. She held my aunt’s hand as she drifted away while in hospice care.
This was January-March of 2020. My grandfather had developed dementia before this point, and my family could no longer take care of him ourselves…especially after the two aforementioned huge losses. We begrudgingly put him into a nursing home down the road from the Pocahontas house, and my MiMi visited him every day. COVID protocols soon hit, and she was only able to talk to him on the phone and see him through a glass window. The guilt of putting him there overwhelmed my MiMi and my mom, but it was unfortunately necessary. I think my mom still regrets it.
I moved to Texas in January 2021. I had to move to a large city for my then-job, and I loved Austin, so that’s where I chose to go. I hated leaving my family during such a difficult time, but they encouraged me to go live my dream. My PaPa even joked that he would drive down to Austin and see me.
His health deteriorated as the months went by. At the end of November that year, he passed away with my MiMi by his side. He was 93 years old, and held out as long as he could. He was easily the strongest man I have ever known.
I came home for his funeral, wishing that I could’ve been there with him as he passed on, or with my mom when she heard the news. During this time, I learned that due to the skyrocketing housing costs in Austin, my rent was going to go up an extra $600 per month. There was no way I could afford that, and my job agreed that I could work from Little Rock instead. A part of me hated moving back, because I loved my little apartment. My precious dog, Marley, had passed away months earlier from pneumonia while we were out there, and it somehow felt like I was abandoning him as well as my dream home in my dream city.
Being back near my family for the last two years has been the right decision, but it’s also been tough. One of my nieces has been in and out of the hospital with anorexia for nearly these entire two years. She’s been completely inpatient since last August.
Dealing with all of the aforementioned losses, plus my niece’s health, plus my lunatic brother’s violent threats, plus my MiMi’s strokes and deteriorating mental health, I don’t know how my mom even functions. My cousins and I help her with everything, of course, but she’s so fucking tough that she usually wants to do things herself, her way. I’m looking forward to her being able to finally relax knowing that my MiMi will be safe and happier than she has been in years.
So at this moment, I’m here alone in this half-furnished house, reminiscing. My cousins and I will take turns staying up here and fixing things until we sell it. I’m not mourning the loss of the house itself (as I did with my grandparents other two homes) but the fact that the concept of “MiMi and Papa’s house” now ceases to exist.
I’m lucky to have had my PaPa for 37 years of my life. I’m lucky be nearly 40 and still have my MiMi. She’ll be 93 in August, and though she stays positive, she has mentioned that she’ll be glad to be with my aunt, uncle, and grandfather again, as well as her other friends and family members who have passed. She’s not ready to pass on or give up, but she has no fear of death. I selfishly want her around as long as possible, and her chance of a happier, longer life is now much more likely with her move to this new facility.
These past four years have been fucking awful for my family and myself, but hopefully, a positive new chapter is now (finally) beginning.

Igbo Landing is the location of a mass suicide of Igbo slaves that occurred in 1803 on St. Simons Island, GA.
In 1803 one of the largest mass suicides of enslaved people took place when Igbo captives from what is now Nigeria were taken to the Georgia coast. In May 1803, the Igbo and other West African captives arrived in Savannah, Georgia, on the slave ship the Wanderer.
During the voyage, approximately 75 Igbo slaves rose in rebellion, took control of the ship, drowned their captors, and in the process caused the grounding of the ship in Dunbar Creek.
The sequence of actual events is unclear as most of the historical incidence was passed down by oral tradition.
Under the direction of a high Igbo chief among them, walked in unison into the creek singing in the Igbo language "The Water Spirit brought us, the Water Spirit will take us home". They accepted the protection of their god Chukwu and death over the alternative of slavery.
The deaths signaled a powerful story of resistance as these captives overwhelmed their captors in a strange land, and many took their own lives rather than remain enslaved in the New World. The mutiny and subsequent suicide by the Igbo people was called by many locals the first freedom march in the history of the United States.
•••

what would the Localized names for your OC's Stands?
I used to have a note (on computer) on some of them but they disappeared...
Part 5:
Infinity on High > Infinity Above
Turn To Stone > Turning Into Stone
Part X (half these characters I haven't introduced):
Freebird (Jordyn)> Freedom Bird (their name is safe from localization)
The Black Parade (Sam) > The Death March (his name is safe from localization)
Rush (Marina) > Rapid (her name is safe from localization I think???)
Somewhere Beyond The Sea (Alto Darin) > Away Beyond the Ocean (Alto Daring)
Of Monsters and Men (Bjork, Jordyn's mother)> Fairy Tales (Nanna maybe???)
Wind Him Up (Muse) > Wind Them Up (I feel like they could get away with the name)
Strangelove (Depeche Mode) > Weirdgloves (Hurry Up Mode It'd be something stupid just know that) (the localization makes sense if I bothered to finish his design because his stand is gloves)

PALO ALTO, Calif. (KRON) — Stanford University’s star athlete, Katie Meyer, was found dead inside her dorm room the morning after the university threatened her with expulsion, according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed last week and obtained by KRON4.
A coroner ruled Meyer’s death a suicide after she was found dead on March 1. The night before, on February 28, she received a distressing email from Stanford’s Office of Community Standards informing Meyer that she was facing a formal disciplinary charge, according to the lawsuit filed on behalf Meyer’s parents in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
The charge stemmed from an incident in which Meyer poured coffee on a football player after he kissed one of Meyer’s soccer teammates without consent, the suit states.
Meyer, 22, was a “perfectionist,” captain of the women’s soccer team, held a 3.84 GPA, and was just a few months shy from graduating, according to the suit.
The prestigious university’s office ordered Meyer to appear for a disciplinary hearing to potentially face “removal from the university,” attorneys with Justice Law Collaborative wrote.
According to Gina and Steven Meyer, their daughter had “an acute stress reaction that impulsively led her” to die by suicide, attorneys wrote. “The actions that led to the death of Katie Meyer began and ended with Stanford University.”
The young athlete’s sudden death sent shockwaves of grief through Stanford’s campus and the sport of soccer nationwide.
Stanford University officials called the lawsuit’s allegations “false and misleading.” Stanford soccer star Katie Meyer dies by suicide
“The Stanford community continues to grieve Katie’s tragic death and we sympathize with her family for the unimaginable pain that Katie’s passing has caused them. However, we strongly disagree with any assertion that the university is responsible for her death,” Stanford officials wrote in a statement.
The statement continued, “Stanford’s Office of Community Standards (OCS) received a complaint regarding alleged behavior by Katie that resulted in physical injury, and as is the practice of the office, it launched a review of that allegation.  After extensive factfinding and the opportunity for both sides to provide information, it was found that the high threshold was met for the matter to proceed to a hearing. However, it is important to emphasize that we are committed to supporting students through the student judicial process under OCS, and we did so in this case. In particular, the university offered Katie an advisor to work with her throughout the process and told her she could have a support person of her choosing with her in any meeting or conversation with OCS. The allegation that OCS did not communicate with Katie prior to February 28 is also incorrect. Several days earlier, the head of OCS had informed Katie that a decision would be made by February 28 whether to proceed to a hearing.”
The unnamed football player never wanted the school to take disciplinary actions against Katie Meyer, and he did not file a complaint with the OCS. Instead, Dean of Residential Education Lisa Caldera filed the complaint, according to the lawsuit.
The letter that Katie Meyer received on the evening of her death was sent by Assistant Dean Tiffany Gabrielson, and contained threatening language regarding sanctions, the suit claims.
The coffee-spilling incident happened on Aug. 28, 2021, but formal charge letter was not sent until the evening of Feb. 28, 2022.
Katie Meyer immediately responded to the email expressing how “shocked and distraught” she was over being charged. That evening, she was sitting alone in her dorm room and feeling terrified that her future would be destroyed, the lawsuit claims.
Earlier that same day, Katie Meyer was happily making plans for spring break and booking plane tickets, attorneys wrote. She attended classes, went to soccer practice, met up with friends, and FaceTimed with her mother and sister.
“Everyone she interacted with has advised she was well, in good spirits and the usual Katie,” the lawsuit states. Her death “was completed without planning and solely in response to the shocking and deeply distressing information she received from Stanford while alone.”
Katie Meyer was a fiercely competitive and passionate student-athlete. She led her team to an NCAA women’s soccer championship in 2019.
Stanford University “used” Katie Meyer as the face of its outstanding athletic teams, yet failed to support her mental well-being, legal expert Paula Canny told KRON4.
The lawsuit is an “indictment on Stanford’s disciplinary system,” Canny said. “It sure sounds like they did do something wrong.”
Stanford alumni who founded the Student Justice Project criticized the university for denying responsibility in connection to Meyer’s death.
“Katie Meyer was a beloved member of our community,” said alum Bob Ottilie. “It is unfair for Stanford to suggest she bears sole responsibility for her death; Stanford has to candidly assess the role they played here.”
The Student Justice Project, founded by five Stanford alumni in 2012, conducted case studies in 2012 and 2013 that found the university’s disciplinary process was “extreme.”
“Our extensive investigation from a decade ago indisputably demonstrated that Stanford University used draconian tactics to negatively impact the lives of its own students,” Ottilie said.
Ottilie has represented students accused of misconduct by the university in dozens of cases. He said Katie Meyer’s matter “would have been the least significant student disciplinary issue I had ever addressed at a college or university. It does not appear to have been a big deal at all,” Ottilie said of the charge against Katie Meyer.

The Classical Side of the Mournful Morning
As tower and fortress fall, we watch with disbelieving stare and numbly hear the anguished cries that pierce the ash-filled air. Carl Daw
It is said that if all words fail, music speaks, and nothing expresses the emotions felt during and after September 11, 2001, known to me as The Mournful Morning.
Hence this Spotify playlist I crafted.
The playlist commences with an excerpt from Michael Gordon's piece from The Sad Park, written for string quartet and electronics. While Gordon personally saw the plane hit the South Tower of the former Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, millions more heard about what he witnessed via news reports or - in my case as a 6th grader - principals who relayed the news on their school intercoms.
While I was at school, my DPs and DGPs were in the waiting room of the chemo clinic. They thought the news footage of the attacks was a made-for-TV disaster film, but they realized that it was tragically anything but. They found out after my late DGF's chemo session that the Twin Towers were no more.
Tumblr media
Taken by my DF, 1/1997.
Then, it segues into Mrs M. E. Her Funeral Tears for the Death of her Husband. This short 17th century song cycle by John Danyel evokes the disbelief and sorrow of the wives whose husbands on the planes that struck the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and a rural field in PA phoned their last words to them mid-air on their cell or GTE Airfones. The lyrics evoke the emotions the widows-to-be felt on the receiving end of those phone conversations, then on terra firma.
For great effect, I used three separate countertenors for each track of the cycle: Iestyn Davies and Michael and Alexander Chance, in that order.
Leopold Stokowski's arrangement of JS Bach's adagio from BWV 564 evokes the passengers on Flight 93 raiding the cockpit in which the hijackers steered the plane en route to the US Capitol or the White House. They succeeded in thwarting their plans, but not without crashing in the said field in PA, killing all onboard.
Tumblr media
Taken 6/1/2019.
The arrangement segues into the alto aria of Cantata BWV 198, sung by Charles Brett. It honors the female first responders who died at Ground Zero in NYC as well as the female flight attendants (especially Betty Ong, who served passengers on AA Flight 11 and notified the AA reservations center of the hijacking) and passengers who helped thwart hijackers' plans to crash UA Flight 93 into the Capitol or the White House. Fittingly, the lyrics are translated as:
How contentedly the heroine died! How courageously her spirit struggled As death's arm overcame her, Before he conquered her breast.
And we are talking about several heroines here.
Moving onto the Classical Era, the final movement of the WA Mozart Requiem and the dirge from the Ludwig Van Beethoven Eroica Symphony honor the friar and first victim of the WTC attacks, Mychal Judge. Barbara Bonney's rendition of Franz Schubert's Ave Maria - per the German text - evokes the thoughts of the women trapped in the rubble of the former Twin Towers, struggling to live.
For those who didn't make it, the English translation of one movement of Johannes Brahms's German Requiem (upon which Barbara Buehlman masterfully arranged it for concert band), the funeral march from Frederic Chopin's second piano sonata, Edward Elgar's "Nimrod" from Enigma Variations make fitting tributes to them.
Remo Giazotto's Adagio in G minor, based on a lost manuscript of one of Tomaso Albinoni's church sonatas, makes one imagine a slew of church services that immediately followed after the attacks. Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei (performed by VOCES8) and Vladimir Vavilov's Ave Maria (sung by Libera) evoke Catholics' prayers through the intercession of the Virgin Mary in that time of of great death and anxiety as well as the happy repose of the souls.
Tumblr media
Taken 6/1/2019.
As the playlist nears its end, mourning continues to morph into hope through Eric Ewazen's concert band work, A Hymn for the Lost and the Living. More rays of hope shine as it segues on to Howard Goodall’s choral anthem, Spared. Reeling from both his NJ friend Brian Aschinger’s death by cancer in August 2001 and the horrific sights he saw in Manhattan while en route to film a segment of his documentary, Great Dates, that next month, he wrote it in memory of the victims.
Tumblr media
Taken 6/1/2019.
John Rutter's The Lord Bless You and Keep You has listeners evoke the 1-year-anniversary memorial services and Masses being held, resolve strengthened and victims remembered. Charles Ives's Variations on America represent the increased patriotism after that dark chapter in US history. Finally, Richard Goldman’s and Robert Leist's concert band arrangement of the Gravement from Bach's Fantasia in G Major, BWV 572, reinforces the strengthened sense of patriotism, all the while representing the ascension of innocent souls who entered eternal rest on that tragic day.
It's best to listen with a Spotify Premium account. If you have the free one, take the time to mute after each track in case an ad pops up, just to preserve the solemnity of this playlist.
May all the souls who perished on this day in 2001 rest in peace.

Uranium is being mined near the Grand Canyon as prices soar and the US pushes for more nuclear power (AP) The largest uranium producer in the United States is ramping up work just south of Grand Canyon National Park on a long-contested project that largely has sat dormant since the 1980s. The work is unfolding as global instability and growing demand drive uranium prices higher. The Biden administration and dozens of other countries have pledged to triple the capacity of nuclear power worldwide in their battle against climate change, ensuring uranium will remain a key commodity for decades as the government offers incentives for developing the next generation of nuclear reactors and new policies take aim at Russia’s influence over the supply chain.
Questions are mounting over whether ‘unprecedented’ U.S.-Israel intel sharing is contributing to civilian deaths in Gaza. (WSJ) A secret memorandum that expanded U.S. intelligence sharing with Israel after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack has sparked concerns in Washington, according to people familiar with the issue. Among the worries is that there is little independent oversight to confirm that U.S.-supplied intelligence isn’t used in strikes that unnecessarily kill civilians or damage infrastructure. The intelligence-sharing agreement has received less public scrutiny than U.S. weapons sales to Israel. But it is prompting increasing questions from Democratic lawmakers and human-rights groups, even as alarm mounts within the Biden administration over Israel’s war conduct.
A Rio councilwoman’s killing was a mystery. Corruption kept it unsolved (AP) Two days after Rio de Janeiro city councilwoman Marielle Franco’s 2018 assassination, her widow sat down with the chief of the state’s civil police, Rivaldo Barbosa, who pledged to do everything in his power to hold the guilty parties to account. In fact, the man Veja magazine once exalted as “Rio’s Sherlock” had the exact opposite intent, according to newly revealed allegations. Federal Police arrested Barbosa on March 24—over six years later—for allegedly helping orchestrate Franco’s killing and taking money to obstruct the very investigation he would oversee. The explosive revelations in the nearly 500-page Federal Police report offer an unprecedented glimpse into how organized crime has undermined Rio’s institutions and reveal the extent of corruption in a city where militias allegedly pay police to look away.
What Happened When This Italian Province Invested in Babies (NYT) Full houses have increasingly become history in Italy, which has one of the lowest birthrates in Europe and where Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as well as Pope Francis, have warned that Italians are in danger of disappearing. But the Alto Adige-South Tyrol area and its capital, Bolzano, more than any other part of the country, bucked the trend and emerged as a parallel procreation universe for Italy, with its birthrate holding steady over decades. The reason, experts say, is that the provincial government has over time developed a thick network of family-friendly benefits, going far beyond the one-off bonuses for babies that the national government offers. Parents enjoy discounted nursery schools, baby products, groceries, health care, energy bills, transportation, after-school activities and summer camps. The province supplements national allocations for children with hundreds of euros more per child and vaunts child-care programs, including one that certifies educators to turn their apartments into small nurseries. All of that, experts say, helps free up women to work, which is vital for the economy. As in France and some Scandinavian countries, it also shows that a policy of offering affordable day-care services has the power to steer Italy from the impending demographic cliff as the birthrate falls.
Passport checks for air travellers lifted as Bulgaria and Romania join EU’s Schengen (Reuters) Airports in Sofia and Bucharest on Sunday removed passport check points for those departing to or arriving from most European Union member states as Bulgaria and Romania partially joined the Schengen open-travel zone. The two countries reached an agreement late last year to join Europe’s free-travel area by air and sea after Austria opposed full membership, including land crossings, saying Romania and Bulgaria needed to do more to prevent illegal immigration. The Interior minister in the outgoing government, Kalin Stoyanov, told journalists on Sunday that Bulgaria should become a full member of the Schengen zone by the end of this year, meaning border check points will be removed for people and goods travelling by road and by rail.
2 dead as Russia launches attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure (AP) A Russian cruise missile strike on infrastructure in Ukraine’s western Lviv region killed one man, while another died in an attack in the northeast, officials said Sunday. Hundreds of thousands in Ukraine’s Odesa region were left without power Sunday after debris from a downed Russian drone caused a blaze at an energy facility, Gov. Oleh Kiper said. Some 170,000 homes suffered power outages as a result of the attack.
Istanbul Mayor Headed for Re-election, in Blow to Erdogan’s Party (NYT) The mayor of Istanbul was headed for a stinging re-election victory against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his ruling party early Monday, beating back a broad campaign by the president and his government and keeping Turkey’s largest city and economic powerhouse in opposition hands. The strong showing by Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu put him on track for his third win against Mr. Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party, solidifying his status as a star in the political opposition. Many Turks see Mr. Imamoglu as a potential contender for the presidency. The opposition was also on the verge of significant gains in other local elections across Turkey. Preliminary vote counts on Monday kept it in power in four of the country’s largest cities—Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya—and gave it control of a fifth, Bursa, and a number of smaller cities.
Cambodia: Hundreds of Indians rescued from cyber-scam factories (BBC) The Indian government has so far rescued 250 citizens in Cambodia who were forced to run online scams. They were promised jobs but "forced to undertake illegal cyber work", India's foreign ministry said. Recent reports have said more than 5,000 Indians stuck in Cambodia were forced to operate cyber-fraud schemes. Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world are estimated to have fallen prey to human traffickers running job scams in South East Asia. Victims, mostly young and tech-savvy, are promised jobs and then lured into illegal online work ranging from money laundering and crypto fraud to so-called love scams, where they pose as lovers online.
Protests Against Netanyahu Intensify as Cease-Fire Talks Resume (NYT) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced growing challenges to power on Sunday as thousands gathered outside Parliament to call for early elections in what were shaping up to be one of the largest demonstrations against the government in Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip. Some protesters carried signs calling for Mr. Netanyahu’s “immediate removal.” Others wielded posters calling for elections, saying “those who destroyed can’t be the ones to fix.” The protest came a day after thousands took to the streets of Tel Aviv, waving flags and carrying pictures of the Israeli hostages with signs reading “Hostage deal now.” Elad Dreifuss, a 25-year-old university student demonstrating in Jerusalem on Sunday, said that protesting against the government at a time of war was a difficult decision, but that “if the government can’t live up to its responsibility, something has to change.”
Israeli troops leave Gaza’s Shifa Hospital a wreck in sea of rubble (Reuters/BBC) Israeli forces have withdrawn from Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City after a two-week operation, the Israeli military said on Monday, leaving behind a wasteland of destroyed buildings and Palestinian bodies scattered in the dirt of the complex. The Israeli military said it had killed and detained hundreds of gunmen in clashes in the area of the hospital, and seized weaponry and intelligence documents. Hamas and medical staff deny that Palestinian fighters have any armed presence in hospitals. A spokesman for Gaza’s Civil Emergency Service said Israeli forces had executed two people whose bodies were found at the complex in handcuffs, and used bulldozers to dig up the grounds of the complex and exhume buried bodies. Footage circulated on social media and not yet verified by Reuters showed the bodies of dead Palestinians, some covered in dirty blankets, scattered on the ground around the charred hulk of the hospital building, many of whose outer walls were missing. Meanwhile, an Israeli air strike hit a courtyard in al-Aqsa hospital, killing four people and injuring 17 others, including journalists.
Palestinian Christians (Religion News Service) Palestinian Christians, a community that dates back to Jesus’ time, have long lived under the threat of extinction. This Easter, however, we bear witness to horrors never imagined. The church in the Holy Land, along with thousands of years of Palestinian culture and heritage, is disintegrating before our eyes. A pastor in Bethlehem and founder of Dar al-Kalima University, the first and only Palestinian university with a focus on arts, culture and design, I have invested my life in my community, which has played an outsize role both in Palestinian culture and on the global stage. Palestinian Christians founded 40% of the aid organizations and other NGOs in the occupied territories. Our schools, hospitals and advocacy organizations serve all Palestinians and represent our third-largest private employer. Church-related organizations run a third of the health services in the West Bank and Gaza. Yet, like all Palestinians, we have suffered the indignity of Israeli occupation and the crime of apartheid. Since Israel’s independence in 1948, our villages have been razed, our people ethnically cleansed, our lives, lands and stories erased. We have persevered through decades of disenfranchisement, military occupation and injustice alongside our Muslim Palestinian brothers and sisters, witnessing and enduring what the International Court of Justice has found may be plausibly called a genocide.
An Israeli strike killed top Iranian commanders, Iran said (NYT) An airstrike launched by Israel today destroyed a building belonging to the Iranian consulate in Damascus and killed at least three Iranian generals, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said in a statement. Four other officers were killed. Four Israeli officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged that Israel had carried out the attack. The strike targeted a secret meeting between Iranian intelligence officials and Palestinian militants to discuss the war in Gaza, Iranian officials said. Among those killed was General Mohamad Reza Zahedi, who oversaw Iran’s covert military operations in Syria and Lebanon. The strike appeared to be among the deadliest in a yearslong shadow war between Iran and Israel. Iran’s ambassador to Syria said, “This attack will have our fierce response.”
Pope’s Easter speech renews calls for peace (Washington Post) Speaking to tens of thousands of followers in St. Peter’s Square, and millions more across the globe, Pope Francis gave a solemn accounting of a world in crisis Sunday, using the pulpit of his Easter address to renew calls for a cease-fire in Gaza while drawing attention to other conflicts, from Ukraine to Haiti, heightened risks of famine, the threat of climate change and the plight of migrants. “How much suffering we see in the eyes of the children: The children in those lands at war have forgotten how to smile! With those eyes, they ask us: Why? Why all this death? Why all this destruction?” he said.

[ Maybe you remember, Maga, that old umbrella we sacrificed in a gully in Montsouris Park one sunset on a cold March day. We threw it away because you had found it half-broken in the Place de la Concorde and you had got a lot of use from it, especially for digging into people’s ribs on the Métro or on a bus as you lethargically thought about the design the the flies on the ceiling made. There was a cloudburst that afternoon and you tried to open your umbrella in the park in a proud sort of way, but your hand got all wrapped up in a catastrophe of cold lightning shafts and black clouds, strips of torn cloth falling from the ruins of unfrocked spokes, and we both laughed like madmen as we got soaked, thinking that an umbrella found in a public square ought to die a noble death in a park and not get involved in the mean cycle of trash can or gutter. Then I rolled it up as best I could and we took it to the top of the park near the little bridge over the railroad tracks, and from there I threw it with all my might to the bottom of the gully where it landed on the wet grass as you gave out with a shout in which I thought I vaguely recognized the curse of a Valkyrie. ]

how about... #6 and Ushi 👀
AL YOU HAD ME AT USHI!!! and then I looked at the # and was like 0//0 mhm
HERE YOU GO, MY DEAR!!!! hehe this prolly isn’t quite what you wanted😂
Ushijima Wakatoshi + #6 -Becoming breathless
Tumblr media
A groan fell from your lips, a bead of sweat trailing down the curve of your cheek as you cast a glance at your large boyfriend. He had barely broken a sweat while you were drenched, you even had patted your forehead dry with a towel so you could see what you were doing.
Ushijima apparently thought that moving furniture in the dead of summer was a good idea, so here you were, pushing a couch with every ounce of strength you had, air leaving your lungs as you heaved.
“If you are struggling this much Y/n, maybe I should move it. Perhaps you can instead grab the lamp for the side table from its box,” Ushijima said softly, a hand coming to rest on your shoulder as his olive gaze caught your own (colored) one.
A pout leaves your lips as you look up at him, eyes blinking in frustration. You knew he didn’t mean any harm by his words, but it was a little annoying to not be able to move your couch alone.
You simply nod, stepping around him before his hand slides down your arm, catching onto the tips of your fingers. With an easy pull, you are pulled into his embrace, his forehead reaching down to rest against your own.
“I did not mean to hurt your feelings, Y/n. I simply do not want you to strain yourself, as you were breathing quite heavily earlier.”
You shut your eyes as you lean into his touch and nod slightly, a sigh leaving your lips as you reply, “No, Toshi, you are right. Maybe moving couches winds me a little too easily.”
Ushijima hums lightly before leaning down and capturing your lips with his own, his arms tightening around you as he pulls you close to his chest. When he pulls away from the dizzying kiss, your eyes are a little dreamy and his hands have to steady you.
A smile rests on his face as he murmurs, “Maybe moving couches isn’t the only thing that makes you breathless.”

I feel like Tsukki is a responsible drunk normally, but you get him drunk on something different from normal and he’s very touchy, lots of sloppy kisses, lots of “I love you” that he normally expresses in different ways but says aloud now that he’s got no inhibitions (if that makes sense; I just word vomited)
!!! Alcohol doesn't make a new personality, it just unlocks inhibitions and makes you more likely to act on them. Tsukishima is not mean or sarcastic for no reason- he's afraid of being sincere. He gets over this a lot post timeskip, but tsukki is an emotionally constipated jerk with a heart of ... Bronze. He's not needlessly caring, but he does care!!! And the emotions he suppresses would definitely come out when he's drunk.
His drunk default expression is a dopey lil smile. If you point it out, though, he will pouty frown on purpose until something distracts him from pretending to look like he doesn't care. He's not gonna drape all over you and kiss you sloppy in front of everyone... But he'll think about it while tearing up a cocktail napkin.
He's definitely gonna tell you out loud he loves you. Little whispers in your ear when he leans over, just for you, in case you forgot. He'll kiss your jaw on the way back to sitting up straight. Maybe throw an arm over your shoulder if he's really far gone... But he'll hold your hand on the tabletop in the meantime.

Hi Mae!!! Congrats on your milestone!! ❤️
For your event, could I do “recreating your first date” (arrhythmia) with Tsukishima? I can’t wait to read!!
recreating your first date + Arryhythmia + Tsukishima
A/N: Thank you *mwah*! Hope you’re entertained!
Tumblr media
“Why the fuck would you come late!?” Tsukishima hissed, tomato red in the face and clearly panicked once you settled into the seat in front of him. “I’ve been sitting here for almost an hour!”
You probably should have felt bad for him. Instead, you stifled a laugh as you faced each other in a crowded Chuck E. Cheese’s*, two full grown adults sitting in a too small booth with no children in close association with you, even if there were many kids over all screaming and running back and forth past your table with streams of tickets in their fists.
“Shhh, language. There’s children around,” you teased, wondering whether or not the cheese pizza that had colored your youth tasted the same at all.
When you had told him that this Valentine’s Day you wanted to recreate your very first date, you couldn’t really have anticipated that he’d pick this one. Even worse, he’d texted you the address right before you left work, so it was only once you found yourself confused outside of the kids’ arcade that you realized what date he was referencing.
In a thought that was cute, sentimental, and ridiculous, he’d picked the very first playdate where you’d met, forced to spend time together by your parents when they realized they both had 10 year-olds at home. You recalled this place having seemed immature even back then, and now with both of you well into your 20s, it was both laughable and a little creepy that you were having a date there. Tsukki must have looked extra suspicious, being all of 6’2 with glasses and dressed in a large hoodie with a sour expression, absolutely fitting the bill of a sketchy person.
Having security walk up to you, ask you if you were here with any children (Tsukishima was too busy nearly wetting himself to come up with anything sassy), and tell you promptly to leave if not, was the capstone of your night.
*  For Non-Americans out there, Chuck E. Cheese’s is a pizza + games type activity for kids that I think is nationwide??
