Martin. My boy Martin. First character I put on this list before it was an actual list. (Why didn’t I do him first? Look…by the time I realized I had to actually do this, other podcasts were still ongoing and characters actively needed hugs.) It has been a long time since I have identified with a character so hard, and I love him so much. I couldn’t wait to get to hug him.

He differs from the base pattern as follows:

Shoes: I gave Martin loafers, or at least that was what I meant to give him. Therefore, I stopped with the shoe color at R6 (the final decrease) and switched to trouser color. I also knotted a small scrap of brown yarn on the tips and tied them in bows.

Trousers: So here’s the thing: Martin is fat. I know there are people who want to argue that the podcast never explicitly says the word “fat” - just things like “a bigger guy” and “roomy” and the like - and that that could mean he’s just tall or broad or muscular or whatever, but for fuck’s sake, there aren’t that many fat characters out there that aren’t punch lines, let me have this. Anyway, I am also fat, so I admittedly based a lot of my alterations on, well, me. And the first thing I decided was that Martin, like me, has trouble finding pants off the rack that fit him properly because everything that fits his waist has too long of an inseam, so I decided to give him cuffs on his pants by doing R7 as hdc in front loops of R6 only, then R8 as dc in the back loops of R6. Head: I decided Martin has no neck really, but a slightly square head/jaw. (It came out a bit chinless, honestly, but it works for him.) Glasses: I didn’t wrap these in thread this time, but I did cut the wire long enough that I could double it up the whole way across, so it works well, I think.

Arms: Like with the legs, I decided to make Martin’s arms fatter than usual, so at R12 I chained 2 and then did a pattern of (hdc, 2hdc) around to open it up to eighteen stitches from twelve. I also extended them to 33 rounds to fit better with his body.

Did the ancient Celts really paint themselves blue?

Part 1: Brittonic Body Paint

The idea that the ancient and medieval Insular Celts painted themselves blue or tattooed themselves with woad is common in modern culture. But where did this idea come from, and is there any evidence for it? In this post, I will examine the evidence for the use of body paint among the ancient peoples of the British Isles, including both written sources and archaeology.

For this post, I am looking at sources pertaining to any ethnic group that lived in the British Isles from the late Iron Age through the early Roman Era. (Later Roman and Medieval sources will be discussed in part 2.) The relevant text sources for Brittonic body paint date from approximately 50 BCE to 100 CE. I am including all British Isles cultures, because a) determining exactly which Insular culture various writers mean by terms like ‘Briton’ is sometimes impossible and b) I don’t want to risk excluding any relevant evidence.

Written Sources:

The earliest source for our notion of blue Celts is Julius Cesar's Gallic War book 5, written circa 50 BCE. In it he says, "Omnes vero se Britanni vitro inficiunt, quod caeruleum efficit colorem, atque hoc horridiores sunt in pugna aspectu," which translates as something like, "All the Britons stain themselves with woad, which produces a bluish colouring, and makes their appearance in battle more terrible" (translation from MacQuarrie 1997). Hollywood sometimes interprets this passage as meaning that the Celts used war paint, but Cesar says that all Britons colored themselves, not just the warriors. The blue coloring just had the effect (on the Romans at least) of making the Briton warriors look scary. The verb inficiunt (infinitive inficio) is sometimes translated as 'paint', but it actually means dye or stain. The Latin verb for paint is pingo (MacQuarrie 1997).

The interpretation of vitro as woad is supported by Vitruvius' statements in De Architectura (7.14.2) that vitrum is called isatis by the Greeks and can be used as a substitute for indigo. Isatis is the Greek word for woad; this is where we get its modern scientific name Isatis tinctoria. Woad and indigo both contain the same blue dye pigment, hence woad can be used as a substitute for indigo (Carr 2005, Hoecherl 2016). The word vitro can also mean 'glass' in Latin, but as staining yourself with glass doesn't make much sense, it's more commonly interpreted here as woad (Carr 2005, Hoecherl 2016, MacQuarrie 1997). I will revisit this interpretation during my discussion of the archaeological evidence.

Almost a century later in De situ orbis, Pomponius Mela says that the Britons "whether for beauty or for some other reason — they have their bodies dyed blue," (translation by Frank E. Romer) using virtually identical language to Cesar, "vitro corpora infecti" (Lib. III Cap. VI p. 63). Pomponius Mela may have copied his information from Cesar (Hoecherl 2016).

Then in 79 CE, Pliny the Elder writes in Natural History book 22 ch 2, "There is a plant in Gaul, similar to the plantago in appearance, and known there by the name of "glastum:" with it both matrons and girls among the people of Britain are in the habit of staining the body all over, when taking part in the performance of certain sacred rites; rivalling hereby the swarthy hue of the Æthiopians, they go in a state of nature." In spite of the fact that glastum means woad in the Gaulish and Celtic languages, Pliny seems to think glastum is not woad. In Natural History book 20 ch 25, he describes different plant which is almost certainly woad, a “wild lettuce” called "isatis" which is "used by dyers of wool." (Woad is a well-known source of fabric dye (Speranza et al 2020)).

Of course, "rivaling the swarthy hue of the Æthiopians" doesn't necessarily mean blue. Pliny seems to think Ethiopians literally have coal-black skin (Latin ater). Additionally, Pliny is taking about a ritual done by women, where Cesar was talking about a practice done by everyone. Are they talking about 2 different cultural practices, or is one of them reporting misinformation? Or are both wrong? Unfortunately, there is no way to know.

The Roman poets Ovid, Propertius, and Marcus Valerius Martialis all make references to blue-colored Britons (Carr 2005), but these are literary allusions, not ethnographic reports. As such, they don't really provide additional evidence that the Britons were actually dyeing or painting themselves blue (Hoecherl 2016). These poetic references merely demonstrate that the Romans believed that the Britons were.

In the sources that come after Pliny the Elder, starting in the 3rd century, there is a shift in the terms used. Instead of inficio which means to dye or stain (Hoecherl 2016), probably a temporary application of color to the surface of the skin, later sources use words like cicatrices (scars) and stigma/stigmata (brand, scar, or tattoo) (Hoecherl 2016, MacQuarrie 1997, Carr 2005) which suggest a permanent placement of pigment under the skin, i.e. a tattoo. This evidence for tattooing will be discussed in a second post.

Discussion:

Although the Romans clearly believed that the Britons were coloring themselves with blue pigment, that doesn't necessarily mean that Julius Cesar, Pomponius Mela, or Pliny the Elder are reliable sources.

In the sentence before he claims that all Britons color themselves blue, Julius Cesar says that most inland Britons "do not sow corn [aka grain], but live on milk and flesh and clothe themselves in skins." (translation from MacQuarrie 1997). This is demonstrably false. Grains like wheat and barley and storage pits for grain have been found at multiple late Iron Age sites in inland Britain (van der Veen and Jones 2006, Lightfood and Stevens 2012, Lodwick et al 2021). This false characterization of Insular Celts as uncivilized savages would continue to show up more than a millennium later in English descriptions of the Irish.

Pomponius Mela, in addition to believing in blue-dyed Britons, also believed that there was an island off the coast of Scythia inhabited by a race called the Panotii "who for clothing have big ears broad enough to go around their whole body (they are otherwise naked)" (Chorographia Bk II 3.56 translation from Romer 1998). Pliny the Elder also believed in Panotii.

The Roman historians Tacitus and Cassius Dio make no mention of body paint in their coverage of Iron Age British history (Hoecherl 2016). Their silence on the subject suggests that, in spite of Cesar's claim that all Britons colored themselves blue, the custom of body staining or painting was not actually widespread.

Considering all of these issues, is any of this information trustworthy? Based on my experience studying 16th c. Irish dress, even bigoted sources based on second-hand information often have a grain of truth somewhere in them. Unfortunately, exactly which bit is true is hard to identify without other sources of evidence, and this far in the past we don't have much.

Archaeological Evidence:

There are no known artistic depictions of face paint or body art from Great Britain during this time period. There are some Iron Age continental European coins that show what may be face painting or tattoos, but no such images have been found on British coins (Carr 2005, Hoecherl 2016).

In order for the Britons to have dyed themselves blue, they needed to have had blue pigment. Woad is not native to Great Britain (Speranza et al 2020), but Woad seeds have been found in a pit at the late Iron Age site of Dragonby in England, so the Britons had access to woad as a potential pigment source in Julius Cesar's time (Van der Veen et al 1993). Egyptian blue is another possible source of blue pigment. A bead made of Egyptian blue was found at a late Bronze Age site in Runnymede, England. Pieces of Egyptian blue could have been powdered to produce a pigment for body paint. (Hoecherl 2016). Egyptian blue was also used by the Romans to make blue-colored glass (Fleming 1999). Perhaps this is what Cesar meant by 'vitro'.

Modern experiments have found that reasonably effective body paint can be made by mixing indigo powder either with water, forming a runny paint which dries on the skin, or with beef drippings, forming a grease paint which needs soap to be removed (Carr 2005, reenactor description). The second recipe is very similar to one used by modern east African argo-pastoralists which consists of ground red ocher mixed with cow fat (unpublished interview*).

Finding blue pigment on the skin of a bog body might confirm Julius Cesar's claim, but unfortunately, the results here are far from conclusive. To my knowledge, Lindow II is the only British bog body that has been tested for indigotin, the dye pigment in woad and indigo. No indigotin was found (Taylor 1986).

The late Iron Age-early Roman era bog bodies Lindown II and Lindown III show some evidence of mineral-based body paint (Joy 2009, Giles 2020). Both of them have elevated levels of calcium, aluminum, silicon, iron, and copper in their skin. Lindow III also has elevated levels of titanium. The calcium levels may simply be the result the of the bog leeching calcium from their bones. Some researchers have suggested that the other elements may be from mineral-based paints applied to the skin. The aluminum and silicon may be from clay minerals. The iron and titanium could be from red ocher. The copper could be from malachite, azurite, or Egyptian blue (CuCaSiO4), pigments that would give a green or blue color (Pyatt et al 1995, Pyatt et al 1991). These elements may have other sources however, and are not present in large enough amounts to provide definitive proof of body paint (Cowell and Craddock 1995, Giles 2020). Testing done on the early Roman Era (80-220 CE) Worsley Man has found no evidence of mineral-based paint (Giles 2020).

One final type of artifact that provides some support for Julius Cesar's claim is a group of small cosmetic grinders from late Iron Age-Roman Era Britain. These mortar and pestle sets are found almost exclusively in Great Britain and are of a style which appears to be an indigenous British development. They are distinctly different from the stone palettes used by the Romans for grinding cosmetics which suggests that these British grinders were used for a different purpose than making Roman-style makeup (Carr 2005). Archaeologist Gillian Carr has suggested that these British grinders might have been used by the Britons for grinding, mixing, and applying a woad-based body paint (Carr 2005).

The mortars have a variety of styles of decoration, but the pestles (top left and top center) typically feature a pointed end which could be used for applying paint to the skin (Carr 2005). The grinders are quite small, (most are less than 11 cm (4.5 in) long), making them better suited to preparing paint for drawing small designs rather than for dyeing large areas of skin (Carr 2005, Hoecherl 2016).

Conclusions:

Admittedly, this post is a bit off-topic, since the Irish are not mentioned, but dress history is also about what people did not wear. Hollywood has a tendency to overgeneralize and expropriate, so I want to be clear: There is no known evidence that the ancient Irish used body paint.

So, who did? For the reasons I have already discussed, I don't consider any of the Roman writers particularly trustworthy, but I think the following conclusions are plausible:

A least a few people in Great Britain dyed/stained or painted their bodies between circa 50 BCE and perhaps 100 CE, after which mentions of it end. Written sources from c. 200 CE on talk about tattoos rather than painting or staining. The custom of body dyeing/painting may have started as something practiced by everyone and later changed to something practiced by just women.

None of the writers mention any designs being painted, but Julius Cesar's description could encompass designs or solid area of color. Pliny, on the other hand, states that women were coloring their entire bodies a solid color. The dye was probably blue, although Pliny implies it was black. (I know of no plants in northern Europe that resemble plantago and produce a black dye. I think Pliny was reporting misinformation.)

Archaeological evidence and experimental recreations support the possibility that woad was the source of the pigment, but they cannot confirm it. Data from bog bodies indicate that a mineral pigment like azurite or Egyptian blue is more likely, but these samples are too small to be conclusive.

The small cosmetic grinders are suitable for making designs which might match Cesar and Mela's descriptions, but not Pliny's description of all-over body dyeing.

HEY!! I think the gods REALLY have to do with Ai and Hikaru!!! (theory)

I've been looking into Ame-no-Uzume, Amaterasu and Sarutahiko's lores as of recently and the gods Ame-no-uzume and Sarutahiko have really similar dynamic with Ai and Hikaru right...

Well, remember that time in onk when the characters all went to pray at the Aratate shrine in Miyazaki for good luck? That shrine worships Ame-no-uzume, and it's mentioned in CH 74 and 79. When it's mentioned the first time, Aqua's reaction towards the name Amenouzumeno-mikoto is rather weird... he says he knows about her "really well"... why is he like that towards the name? That bugged me when I first read it and it still does too. Since he's aware of the gods actually being in existence, he could have encountered things that have to do with her, wouldn't it?

Anyway, I looked up the name of the shrine and guess what??

That region is associated with all three gods, Amaterasu, Sarutakhiko and Ame-no-Uzume. It's where the legends related to them took place, and the shrine HAS to do with not just Amenouzume but her Husband, they are worshipped together in that particular shrine. The place is also where the twins lived and passed and where the hospital Gorou worked in's located. This could be why the names "Amaterasu" and "Ame-no-uzume"'s been brought up, they really have to do with the story in some way.

Here's the description of the shrine found from the link below:

"A shrine that is often visited by celebrities, Aratate shrine is said to bring good fortune in show business and marriage. This shrine is dedicated to Sarutahikono-mikoto and his wife Amenouzumeno-mikoto who gave directions to Ninigino-mikoto the grandson of the sun goddess upon his descension from the heavens."

This must have some significance to the story.

Yeah, I bet Hikaru's name came from that god who's the husband of Amenouzume, and I looked more into this god, he's always worshipped with his wife. There's another shrine that's dedicated to him in the Ise region:

"Sarutahiko-JinjaShrine is also located within the precincts of Sarutahiko Shrine, facing the main shrine. Amenouzume-no-mikoto, enshrined at Sarume-JinjaShrine, is known as a god that brings good fortune in the entertainment industry and marriage, and is visited by many celebrities."

The common aspect these shrines share with one another is that they bless the people in the entertainment industry. More like Sarutakahiko blesses the land in general, with his wife bringing good fortune to the people related to the arts since she's the god of the arts. Anyhow, they seem to be really close, huh, it's kind of cute to see people always allowing them to be together and dedicating a place for her in his shrines.

And what Sarutahiko does or is supposed to do is to "guide things in the right direction".

I brought the original text for this in case the auto-translation gets off:

猿田彦神社にまつられている猿田彦大神（さるたひこのおおかみ）は、古事記や日本書紀にも登場する神様です。

天照大神（あまてらすおおみかみ）の孫である瓊瓊杵尊(ににぎのみこと)を地上の世界まで道案内したと伝えられ、物事のはじまりに道しるべとなって、何事も良い方向へと導いてくださる「みちひらき」の神様として知られています。

It translates to this:

Sarutahiko is the deity enshrined at Sarutahiko Shrine, and is mentioned in the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan).

He is said to have guided Ninigi no Mikoto, a grandson of Amaterasu no Mikami, to the earthly world, and is known as the god of “Michi-Hiraki” who guides us in the right direction at the beginning of things.

So he's supposed to be the god that maintains order.

Ring a bell? I've mentioned this in the other theories I posted yesterday, but if there is really a god that deals with "absurdity and unreasonableness", this is the guy they would try to get at. He's the one that'd get in their way of things.

I think Ai really could be "Amenouzume", she's the one who's brought Ruby to her new life, the way that goddess brought Amaterasu out from the cave she retreated into. And if she's amenouzume, or at least is an incarnation/blessed by her, she has to be paired with her husband who's always worshipped together with her. Ai has a boyfriend she had children with, and his name just awfully screams he has to do with a god in some way, especially the one that deals with light. Sarutahiko EMITS light. His other name (I'm so sorry for saying this for like 100th time in a row) is "god of the bright lights". It seems like they have a loving relationship from the lores I read about them.

If you look at it from a neutral standpoint, Hikaru's life's been a series of suffering just one after another. And I keep looking at him, his personality actually still doesn't seem that twisted after all he's been through. He's too meek. I was really keen on how this guy'd turn out to be like because he was really suspicious right? but every time he makes an appearance, it does seem like he has something on his mind but it doesn't seem like he is even capable of showing any type of aggression to the extent it feels almost surreal. Why doesn't he show any anger towards others when he's clearly been continuously mistreated? It's sad because maybe people could be like that, but I still feel the level is very extreme. He should have resented people. He could have turned bitter. Distant. Selfish. He should have screamed and lashed out but he only smiles and accepts and stays quiet. I don't sense any negativity or hostility towards other people in the way he acts so far and I studied psychology. I have a feeling Ai's really chosen a super sweet guy to love. This guy is awfully kind in nature. Am I going to be wrong about this? But I want to get it out there, he seems like a genuinely good person. Too kind for his own good. If that is what's so, then the reason WHY Ai would want to help him makes a lot of sense to me. It's strange... At this point it'd make more sense for me if he REALLY turned out to be some god.

I think something's really after him to disrupt balance, wouldn't THAT be a good reason to force the gods to step in? The plot of onk must be involving/related to these three gods at a minimum. There's been SOMETHING that's been thrown out there, it's been brushed off or unthought of because it's too absurd and fantasy-like, but I think it can be important!!

There is also another thing I noted: yesterday I found Ame-no-uzume belongs in the "Amatsukamis", 天津神(あまつかみ). The gods from the skies-

Her husband Sarutahiko isn't. He belongs in the "Kunitsukamis" 国津神(くにつかみ) and belongs on the land.

If Ai is compared to a "star", He's been compared to a "jewel". That analogy makes sense, actually, since jewels belong on the land even while they shine. So he's actually NOT a star in essence like Ai. If Ai returns to being a star, he cannot reach her from where he is because they originate from different places. Hence, the lyrics of Mephisto starts making a lot of sense. No matter how hard he tries, she's out of his grasp.

So I'm guessing he could have been tricked or lured into the hopes of being allowed to meet Ai again/that she could be brought back to life by ANOTHER "STAR". Probably a god that belongs in the Amatsukami category.

It all clicks really well for me but I wonder if the writers really thought of all this.. Of course, whatever they'd thought up would be way more detailed and in-depth than I, but I mean in terms of the direction of the story. I could be way off about this, but it actually works!! This idea that even if they were to be gods, they STILL wouldn't be able to meet if they returned back to where they came-that's a really clever set-up, if their lore really has to do with this. I'd be impressed if that's really what's been going on.

Anyhow I'm pretty sure Hikaru's been doing something to bring Ai back... I really want that to be discussed if that's really what's been happening. In that case, he gave up on what he'd been desiring for over a decade, on the spot, to respect her wishes. That's selfless of him... but just how many lines did he cross? How much wrong did he commit?? I need this guy to be expanded upon but will it? I guess if that happens he could take all the spotlight so, but I still want to know what's going about around him. There's so much weird stuff that's been happening around this guy and it doesn't seem like a coincidence.

That's it for now~ I'll draw something based on this idea! :) The lore between Amenouzume and her husband was very cute. When I look them up, the tour guides and stuff always seem to portray them as a happy couple and I like that. I like the fact she approached him first too~.. of course, I should do more research if I wanted to know about them better and I could be wrong, but.. I love reading about myths and folklores of different countries and I love seeing couples that get along well. They seem to have a lot of descendants too~

Those gods seem to love people a lot and do a lot of favors for them, there are purification rituals, protective spells, a lot of good fortune in general. They even bless marriages and you can actually get wed in the sarutahiko shrine, it says (well, the gods were married themselves so makes sense)

If Ai and Hikaru's really them, I see why they love people because that's how they've always been. Regardless if they are, or if they aren't.. I hope they will be happy somehow.

I’m proud of myself for conjuring the perfect shot of Bocchi and Kita from the anime in my mind for this comparison. I love this scene, it’s a beautiful moment for their bond.

Unexpected Ch 85 Theory Post

okay so i don't actually have any definitive proof or substantial evidence beyond this and almost 20 years of an obsession with this character's personality specifically

HOWEVER

Chapter 79

Key Points:

Shikamaru checks in immediately after seeing the weirdness and asks about what happened "when they were attacked by Boruto".

The translation might be a little weird here, 'cause I don't completely understand Eida's response - which is a shame because I think most of the analysis works better when you can grasp the nuance. Anyway, lol.

She starts off saying "Nothing really" - there's a pause where Kawaki tells her to tell Shikamaru that the Hokage's dead. So, jumping from, "Nothing, all good" to "oh shit actually the Hokage is dead, my bad" is maybe slightly suspicious.

Chapter 80

Key Points:

Eida says rather bluntly that the Hokage has been killed by Boruto, but she's under duress with Kawaki's hand to her throat, so maybe she's not sounding like she usually would. Just a guess.

"There's a very high possibility" is not the same as "The Hokage has definitely been killed". I don't think Shikamaru 100% believes Eida, but I do think the possibility is upsetting enough for him to act on it regardless.

Shikadai is actually the main reason I am fairly confident Shikamaru knows something is up because this kid sees all this weird shit that doesn't add up and you know he talks to his dad about it.

Shikadai sees Sasuke take off with Boruto and you think he's not going to go to his dad like, "hey what the fuck?"

They're Naras, y'all. Come on now.

Chapter 81

Key Points:

Shikamaru is the Hokage now, apparently.

Okay, that's actually a huge factor to consider as well because I don't think he would take that position if he didn't believe Naruto was still alive and able to take it back as soon as he was found. Shikamaru doesn't want to be Hokage, are you kidding me?

"The sanctions against Boruto were in accordance with regulations." "It's also the will of the Hidden Leaf's citizens." "No matter what I order, it won't convince them."

These are not comments that come from someone dead set on hunting down and punishing a criminal that murdered a political leader. This is the kind of thing you say when you're like, "listen, yes, but also bureaucracy is a bitch and I've gotta keep up appearances or someone else will actually hunt Boruto down and kill him".

He's less worried about the fact Sarada is trying to protect Boruto and more worried about how she's doing it. In my opinion. This is not a fact, I just wanted to point it out, lol.

Again, Shikadai hears Naruto's daughter, and who is currently perceived as being Kawaki's sister, say she wants to protect Boruto who supposedly killed her dad. She also said she feels like he's alive somewhere, and I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that is something a lot of other folks, including Shikamaru, feel as well.

Shikamaru's reaction to when Boruto arrives pretty much solidified my belief that he knows something is up and he doesn't think Boruto killed Naruto, or at the very least that Naruto could still be alive and there's more going on with this whole situation, so he's not eager to jump the gun and kill a child. Which is more than I can say for some of our pol- nevermind ignore this

Shikamaru's reaction to hearing Code is there and attacking people: Orders an evacuation and tries to figure out why Code is attacking, immediately concerned about the safety of the villagers.

Shikamaru's reaction to hearing Boruto just showed up: Prioritize Code and the claw marks, but keep tabs on Boruto without suggesting any kind of attack or restraint or anything like that. He's not worried about Boruto. But he is wanting to gather more intel on the situation as a whole, which makes sense, all things considered.

Chapter 82

Key Notes:

Very intentional frame of Shikadai seeing Kawaki show up, Kawaki shouting for Himawari and Inojin to move out of the way so he can attack a claw thing, not worrying about their safety at all.

Himawari calls him "Big Bro" and Kawaki tells her not to call him that. Not very big brotherly. Again, Shikadai is there for this. Along with everyone else, so. You know, things are kind of weird. These are weird dynamics that are not matching up with their false memories.

Chapter 83

Key Points:

Shikamaru, again, wants Kawaki to focus on eliminating Code - who is an actual threat - and pretty much ignores Boruto because he's not a concern.

Focuses on getting rid of the claw things even after Code has run off, prioritizing keeping him away and protecting the villagers instead of "trying to bring a Hokage killer to justice" or whatever the fuck people are trying to do with Boruto.

Chapter 84

Key Notes:

What Shikamaru took away from Kawaki's breakdown of the situation was that Boruto only came to the village to deal with Code. Meaning that Boruto was never a threat to the village, and there's no reason to worry about him, but it also probably indicates that there is something worth doing more digging into to figure out what the fuck is going on with all of the discrepancies in his memory that I'm sure are pissing him off.

"It better not be someone in the sensory unit."

Kawaki doesn't trust Shikamaru, and probably not anyone else in Konoha. That's not a very "Naruto's son" kind of attitude to have. The fact Shikamaru doesn't seem phased by that distrust means he's either been dealing with it for three years already, has been suspicious of Kawaki this whole time, and more likely both of those things.

Also, what the fuck, that sounds threatening? Ino would kick Kawaki's ass. I'd love to see him try though, lol. No I wouldn't, don't do that please.

Weird tensions between Kawaki (supposedly Naruto's son) and Sarada (Sasuke's daughter). If it were a rivalry, that'd make sense. But the hostility between them? Nah, that don't track.

Sarada basically confirming that Boruto was after Code and most likely trying to find a way to save the people who have been turned into trees. A very "Naruto's son" kind of attitude.

Chapter 85

Key Notes:

BOY. IF AMADO KNOWS, SHIKAMARU HAS KNOWN THE WHOLE GOD DAMN TIME

His face is hidden and he's not surprised or saying anything because if he's been trying to figure this shit out without tipping anyone off WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU SAY

Especially if he doesn't want Eida to know that he knows, because jesus christ her powers are scary and he's probably not eager to have to add that into the mess of variables he's already tangling with.

In Summary

Main Points

Shikamaru has been suspicious of this shit since omnipotence went off and fucked with people's heads.

Shikadai has been privy to some strangeness around Himawari, Kawaki and Boruto at the same time, and I can't imagine that he hasn't asked his dad about it or something. So whatever Shikadai has seen, I assume Shikamaru is somewhat aware of or we'll see a scene where something Shikadai saw or something he says makes it all click into place when his dad hears about it.

Shikamaru's language and attitude around Boruto have been intentionally vague and avoidant. It's the "will of the village", following the system's rules, etc. etc.

Shikamaru's more concerned with Code as a threat than with tracking down Boruto, which conveniently gives him an excuse to not pursue Boruto and prioritize the safety of the village at the same time.

Amado knows? Then Shikamaru has known. No doubt. There was a whole ass chapter where Shikamaru outsmarted Amado. Narratively speaking, we've got a point of reference for why there's a parallel here with Amado talking about this out loud and getting to see Shikamaru's reaction - or in this case, lack thereof - to hearing it.

Conclusion

Ch.79 - Happy Birthday, Baby - Part 2

Simon is faced with his birthday surprise.

"Are you sure it's not too late have dinner here?" Simon asked, anxiety coating his voice as his leg bounced impatiently while he sat on the edge of the couch, Jacob sitting on his knee as Kiera continued to dress Evie for the night.

"Too late to back out now, babe," Kiera giggled from the nursery. "That's why I didn't say anything until last night because I knew you'd be worried about it while you were working."

She heard him huff at her response. She frowned slightly as she knew Simon was uncomfortable with the events planned for his birthday, but she was excited to see his reaction once he realized that it was a surprise he had conquered before.

"Know me so well, love," He sighed. "Are you about ready?"

"I'm ready, but your daughter here is giving me some trouble."

"What's she doing?"

"Keeps pulling her little foot away when I try to put her pants on."

Simon chuckled at the thought, unable to blame his little girl for fighting to put on the cute outfits Kiera had bought for her. Pulling Jacob close to his chest as he stood up to make his way towards the nursery, knowing that more than likely, Evie wouldn't fight Simon as much as he would always poke that "Evie obeys her father more."

Even though it was just another reason for Simon to spend more time with his daughter.

A playful smirk decorated his face as he entered the nursery, "No wonder she's fighting you, love. No baby wants to wear bell-bottoms and a big bow on her head."

She scoffed, "She looks cute!"

"She does, but she may not like her outfit. She looks like she's going to a southern Sunday church service." He teased.

It was then that he decided to stop his teasing when he watched her frown at his poking. Way to go, Simon. She was looking forward to making her baby look cute and you ruined it by making fun of it.

"Can you please see if you can get her to stop fighting?" Her tone had no emotion to it although Simon could tell she was upset about it, noting that she had been down about herself on and off for the last few weeks.

"I was just playing, love."

"I know," She sighed, her tone staying the same. "She prefers you over me I think. The only thing of me she wants is my left boob."

"Don't say that. I know she loves you."

"Both her and Jacob prefer you over me," She breathed a forced chuckle in hopes to keep him from trying to stop doubting herself. "You beat me to it every morning when they start crying, make their bottles before I can even get my ass out of bed, change their diapers more than I do. I can't blame them for preferring you over me."

He hated how she doubted herself and wanted to be borderline offended by what she was saying, but he chose to understand her instead of react. Sighing, he stepped close to Jacob's crib to place him gently inside before wrapping his arms around Kiera's waist from behind, nuzzling his nose into the crook of her neck, "That's not true, love. I'm just excited to have kids of my own is all. I've always doubted I'd never be where I am today and now that I'm here, I don't want you to think you're not doing good enough. You're still healing and need your rest-"

"So do you, Simon-"

"-Shh," He cut her off before placing a kiss to her shoulder. "Just relax and listen to what I'm saying," He whispered, his tone nothing but supportive and low, coaxing her into relaxing against his chest. "You're a good mum. Always will be. I beat you to the nursery every morning because you're not on a regular sleep schedule and I want you to rest. I try to take all of the weight off of you when and if I can. It all comes natural to you and you're doing all of these things after taking care of our babies. It's admirable, love."

"But I feel like I'm not doing enough."

"You do more than enough, Kiera. Like I said, it all comes so natural to you that you don't realize what you're doing. I feel like I'm trying to keep up with you." He chuckled.

"More like I have to keep up with you."

"That's where you're wrong, love," He whispered. "You're forgetting how observant I am."

"Oh, I'm very aware of how observant you are." She chuckled, feeling his arms tighten slightly around her waist, his touch as gentle as he could to avoid the healing area from her C-Section site.

"Good, just like you know how honest I am."

"I do."

He smirked against her neck at her words.

"What?" She giggled.

"Can't wait for the day I hear you say that to me."

"Soon, babe. I need to lose my baby fat first."

"Hush," He mumbled. "You could walk down the aisle in that pajama robe you have and I'd still marry you."

"Don't tempt me." She sighed.

"If you want to do it that way, I'm for it," He smirked. "I'd marry you right now, in this room, if that means I can have you forever, but I know your father would kill me for not giving you a proper wedding."

"It's our wedding, Simon. We can have it however we want it."

"I know, but I'd be lying if I said I would rather see you in pajamas instead of a white dress on our wedding day."

She hummed, "Fair point."

"You look beautiful, by the way. The color you're wearing enhances your glow." He complimented, his hands now on her shoulders as his thumbs fumbled with the fabric of her blouse.

"Thank you," She blushed. "I still look pregnant I think."

"It's a glorious sight, yeah?"

"Makes you wish I was pregnant again, huh?"

"Eventually, yeah. I'd want you to be comfortable with the idea first." He nodded.

"I'd definitely like to wait awhile before I get pregnant again."

"I'm alright with that. Already got two keeping our hands full. With our luck, you'd have twins again." He poked.

"Typically it skips a generation."

"Then either Jacob or Evie will see what it's like to have twins while we get to watch their children."

"That's an exciting thought."

Once Simon had coaxed Evie into the pants Kiera had picked out, he held the baby close to his chest as he followed Kiera through the living room after putting Kimber in her crate for the evening until they got home, Simon grabbing the keys to the truck as he opened the door for her, assisting Kiera by securing the infants into their car seats before opening the passenger side door for her, helping her up into the truck as he took notice that she was still sore when it came to moving to put herself into a vehicle. "Do you want your pillow?" He asked.

"My pregnancy pillow?" She giggled.

"Yeah. To put between your belly and the seatbelt. I don't want you to be uncomfortable."

"It's fine, babe. I have a blanket I can put between me and the seatbelt."

"Are you sure? I can go and get your pillow real quick."

"I'm positive," She smiled. "I'll be fine. I think you're just buying time so you can avoid the attention being on you for your birthday." She teased.

"Me? Never." He scoffed, playfully rolling his eyes.

"I know when you're lying, Simon," She arched her brow. "We have to go. Mom and dad are waiting on us."

"I don't even know where we're going, love."

"I'll give you directions."

"Christ. There's no winning with you." He teased.

"That's right. I like that shirt on you, by the way." She complimented, Simon unaware that she was dropping a mischievous hint that she had planned to tease him, especially since it involved Soap.

She knew Simon cared for his best friend, even though he'd deny it until his last breath, he couldn't hide it.

"Thank you, love. Someone special got it for me." He smirked.

It was a shirt Carhartt work shirt - something he had an eye on since he saw it at one of the local stores after Kiera had mentioned that Carhartt's clothing had been more durable for chores along the ranch as well as mentally noting that Simon had been tearing holes into his shirts while he would help her father with chores when she physically couldn't. It was a simple gift of many that Simon appreciated greatly, eager to put the fabric to the test as he promised he'd help Bud and Soap mend a barbed wire fence later in the week.

"I can tell by the look in your eyes that you're passionate about this said person."

"That I am." He grinned, his eyes staring into hers as he replied.

A direct window into their souls.

I swear I fall in love with you all over again, he thought as he checked to make sure her hand or foot wasn't in the way of the truck door before securing her inside, walking around the front of the truck to enter the driver's seat.

Simon was surprised when he pulled into the parking lot, seeing that it was a steakhouse he had desperately wanted to try since he had lived with Kiera, only avoiding it as it was slightly more expensive than what he'd liked.

That was only the first of his surprise...

"Are you sure about this, love?"

"Positive." She grinned from the passenger seat, willing to argue with him when the bill came, knowing he'd try to snatch the bill from her to pay for dinner himself.

It was her primary mission to assure him that this was his day and he wouldn't pay for anything. Just like he wouldn't let her pay for anything when she pampered herself for her birthday.

"This place looks pretty busy... Are you sure we can get a table? I wouldn't want Jacob and Evie to get restless."

He was desperate to mask his anxiety about going into a highly-populated area, feeling somewhat better knowing that he concealed a pistol on him everywhere he went, especially considering that he had more than just Kiera to protect while in his presence tonight.

"I have it covered, babe," She assured him, reaching over to place her palm on his knee, taking notice of the anxious shake of his leg, rapidly tapping his foot against the floorboard of the truck. "It's okay, Simon. I planned this very carefully. Mom and dad are already at our table and Soap texted me saying him and Teeter just sat down before we pulled in."

"M'just worried, love."

"About what?" She asked, her voice soft with consideration.

"Just a lot of people here and I have five people to keep check on."

"Five?"

"You, Jacob, Evie, your mum and your dad."

"Trust me, you'll be completely safe."

Another subtle hint.

"I don't trust anywhere to be completely safe. You know that."

"I know, babe, but I think after you get settled and see your surprise, you'll feel safer than what you feel right now."

"Easier said than done." He sighed, stuffing the keys into his pocket before exiting the truck, taking a deep breath before he opened the passenger door for Kiera, offering his hand as she slid down onto her feet, smiling up at him before she made her way to the backseat to unbuckle Jacob first while Simon stood behind her, keeping her between him and the truck as if he were guarding her, opening his arms to hold Jacob while he followed her around the truck to retrieve Evie.

He adjusted the blanket over Jacob's head, protecting the infant from the cold wind as he ensured that his little hands and feet were secured within the blanket and close to his chest, Jacob moving his head around in curiosity while his fingers curled into the fabric of the pocket on Simon's shirt.

"You two are so beautiful." Simon complimented as Kiera pressed a kiss to Evie's forehead, smiling at the infant with tear-filled eyes as Evie smiled back at her mother. Please don't grow up, baby girl. You're so precious to us.

"I can't stop looking at them. They're perfect." Kiera smiled.

"That they are," He hummed, locking the truck before gesturing her to walk in front of him, keeping Jacob close for warmth as he smiled at Evie's brown eyes staring at him from over Kiera's shoulder. "You'll have your daddy-daughter time." He spoke lowly.

"What?" Kiera asked, misunderstanding him as his voice was low and quiet, wondering what he had said.

"I was telling her that she'd have her daddy-daughter time, love. She's staring at me from over your shoulder." He explained, subtly taking his phone from his back pocket to snap a picture that he knew he'd admire forever. The way the camera captured how Kiera was looking at Evie in that moment as well as Evie's perfect face smiling at him from over her mother's shoulder was enough to melt his heart.

"She's staring at you because she wants you," Kiera giggled. "She always prefers you over me."

"She's just jealous because I'm carrying her brother instead of her is what it is." He chuckled, reaching around her to open the door to the restaurant for her, his massive frame towering over her as his anxiety spiked with the flood of people within the restaurant. Simon watched as Kiera talked to the hostess. She looked to be a teenager working a part-time job while she attended school, watching her smile at the sight of the two infants.

"How many do we have tonight?" The hostess smiled at Kiera.

"I called in a reservation."

"Yes ma'am. What's the name?"

"Riley. Kiera Riley."

Simon's brow rose in excitement after hearing her address herself with his last name. He couldn't explain it, but it drove him wild.

She watched as the hostess swiped along her tablet, "Yes ma'am, I have you in right here," She smiled, reaching behind her to grab two rolls of silverware and two menus. "Right this way!"

Kiera grinned as she and Simon followed the hostess, soon arriving at what looked to be a designated dining room that was away from other people, which was perfect to ease Simon's anxiety. I'm so thankful for how thoughtful you are, love.

Once they turned the corner, Simon nearly stopped in his tracks, his jaw nearly dropping as he realized that it wasn't just Kiera's parents, Teeter, and Soap joining them for his birthday dinner.

A familiar mustache and mutton chops caught his attention, the man's button cheeks rising as he stood to his feet, extending his arms to greet Kiera. "Pictures don't do it justice. You look beautiful."

"Thank you, Price."

Simon still stood stationery, finding it difficult to process the fact that he was looking at his team sitting at the table waiting for them. I don't know how you pull this off every time. I don't know how to thank you enough.

His eyes glanced across the table, recognizing a face that didn't come the previous Christmas.

Rudolfo sat alongside Soap, each of his team sharing the same grin as they looked at Simon, each excited to see the babies for themselves as Price was right: pictures do not do it justice when it came to the children.

"Good to see you again, Simon." Price smiled, extending his hand towards him as the men shook hands.

"Likewise, mate." He nodded, still stunned that they were face-to-face again in a setting other than the battlefield.

"We refrained from singing Happy Birthday to embarrass you-" Price explained.

"That and we knew you'd kill Soap for initiating it." Gaz commented, shrugging his shoulders.

"Because he not only would've made me uncomfortable, but his horrid singing would make my kids cry and Kiera worked hard to keep them calm all evening, so that was a good idea on your part, Price." Simon arched his brow.

"I knew better," He chuckled, stepping aside to slide the chair back for Kiera to take a seat as Simon took a seat next to her, Price to her right and Gaz to Simon's left. "You know you'll have to hand him off at some point so you can eat." He teased.

"I can eat with one hand." He grumbled, ignoring the admiring eyes that looked his way, surprised that Alejandro hadn't yet said a word due to his curious eyes, wondering how the man before him known as Ghost had seemed to flip off the military switch to be a family man. It was bizarre, but in a beautiful way.

"You know he wants to hold them, babe." Kiera whispered in a giggle, leaning against him as she took notice of his protective grasp on his son and a protective eye on his daughter.

"Maybe." Simon sighed, keeping Jacob occupied by bouncing his leg up and down, hoping that he wouldn't get distressed by the constant sounds among the people and clattering silverware within the restaurant.

Among much-needed chatter among Simon and his comrades, he felt relieved to have seen them in a case that didn't involve another mission, Simon leaning back in his chair as he literally bit off more than he could chew with his dinner choice, knowing that his stomach would be hurting later. Worth it.

His right arm draped over the back of Kiera's chair, occasionally rubbing his thumb against her shoulder as he constantly craved her warmth against him, reminding himself that she was there.

Within a few minutes, a few servers arrived at their table, one of them smiling as she carried a cake that Kiera had provided for them to present to Simon. Out of shock and embarrassment, Simon tucked his face behind his right hand as it was hard to process that this entire event was arranged for him - someone who didn't think he deserved such love and compassion.

Eva had been eagerly recording the presentation of the cake on her phone, knowing Kiera would love to have it as it was a moment they all got to share together.

As a family.

"Don't worry, babe, I told them not to sing to you..." Kiera informed him with that familiar mischievous grin of hers. "But that doesn't mean we aren't." She smiled, watching Soap reach over the table to light the two number candles that revealed his age: 40.

Fucking Christ, Simon thought as he looked at the number. Old bloke I am with two infant twins. I'll be dead and gone by the time they're adults. He hated his age, although he truly didn't feel his age.

He flashed a weak smile as he fought to mentally accept the love and compassion he knew he had to get used to. Kiera had worked so hard to be able to provide for him to make his birthday special, which he was grateful for, however it was hard for him to accept any kind gesture because he felt like he was undeserving of Kiera's love.

After the candles were lit, Eva was the first to stand to her feet with a warm smile, "Happy birthday, honey."

"Thank you." He nodded, shaking his leg with anxiousness under the table, Kiera taking notice of this as she reached over to grasp his free hand, rubbing the top of his hand with her thumb.

"As much as you hate my singing, I'm taking the lead on this, L.T." Soap snickered as he stood to his feet, the rest of the comrades joining him with an eager smile.

"Christ." Simon breathed with a chuckle.

"I'll try to keep my tone low to not wake up the babies."

"You better."

"Happy birthday to you; Happy birthday to you; Happy birthday, dear Simon; Happy birthday to you!" They all sang to him, Kiera smiling as she kissed the side of his head. "Don't forget to blow out your candles and make a wish!" Eva smiled, continuing to record the event on her phone.

"I've got all I've ever wished for."

Full Ch 79 fan translation is out by one piece leaker and it is confirmed by momoshiki that only sarada is unaffected by rewrite due to her connection with osutsuki😶

I am going to wait till I see the translation on my end. Currently there is only one way which makes sense and that is if Sarada was in physical contact with either Boruto or Kawaki when it happend.

Any other reason then Sasuke shouldn't be affected either, nor the Hyuga and Sumire since they are all have some connection with Otsutsuki.

Still though feels bad if Boruto gets with Sarada cause they basically forced it so she would be the only one unaffected after costing Boruto an eye. Like without the reality warp I don't think Sarada has any chance with Boruto.

Though currently she denies any interest in him so hoping it won't happen.

It’s always a pity that I have to write something about someone who passed away unexpectedly at a much too young age. Rick Froberg was 55. That’s only three years older than I am, and he died from natural causes. Froberg was an graphic artist but was mainly known as frontman and guitar player for the bands (in chronological order) Pitchfork, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, and Obits and only that last one wasn’t with his partner in crime John ‘Swami’ Reis. I’ve seen the last three of those bands live, and I have always been most impressed with Drive Like Jehu, who released only two full length albums, but whose influence cannot be underestimated. It’s their brilliant mixture of melody and dissonance that have influenced fellow nineties bands such as Polvo, Trumans Water, and many more. Drive Like Jehu played in the Pit’s in those early nineties, and the day after they played in a garden in my student home town Leuven, saw them twice and each time left me in amazement. Later I saw Hot Snakes in Ghent, and as encores they played two Drive Like Jehu tracks and in all honesty I can say those two tracks blew the whole Hot Snakes set away. Drive Like Jehu was a brilliant, a brilliant band and I cannot recommend you enough to buy their albums. And when you are 55, you don’t die, ok? Laat ons dat afspreken.

Thelreads, Vigilantes 84, Replies Part 1

1) “Time for vigilantes, if that wasn`t completely obvious I guess lol, and oh my, am I excited to see how he`ll get out of this pickle. “- He’ll get by with a little help from his fri-… current unfortunate associates.

2) “Alright, right where we left, and the backup jet seems to not be igniting. See Koichi, this is why maintenance is so important, rockets can`t fly on the power of friendship alone, not at the moment at least.”- He doesn’t need to fly long, just angle himself enough far away to reach the landing spot, and his ‘Double-Jump’ method is sufficient to pushing himself just far enough along to reach that, even without the massive thrust his rocket mode allows. 3) “OH MY GOD IS THAT MIDNIGHT? IT LOOKS LIKE HOW MIDNIGHT DRESSES

WHAT IS GOING ON WHY IS SHE HERE WHAT DREAMS HAVE TO DO WITH NOT BECOMING A SPLATTER ON THE GROUND?”- She’s here to be Koichi’s figurative deus ex Machina to ensure Pop is actually saved in the end, even if it would have been nice if the vigilantes had been on-the-spot competent enough to not need a professional’s aid to stabilise Pop. But then again, I guess Furuhashi wanted to highlight that there’s realistic limitations to what untrained amateurs can logically pull off trying to save somebody in a rescue service without any if the advantages of experience or medical training,. Koichi’s got enough versatility and training beaten into him to preform under pressure, but there’s no way to prep yourself for a surgical operation with a shoestring budget – even Knuckle clearly was trained on proper first aid whilst he was still operating as a hero before he turned to vigilantism. 4) “Also, are you going somewhere Koichi? I thought the idea was to not go splat, where are you trying to get to?”- The trick with learning how to take a fall is to pick the right landing spot. 5) “Go girl, if you get there quick enough you might make Koichi sleep a pleasant dream instead of agonizing to death on the ground after his fall.

Ohhhhh- so that`s what the tittle is about, I see…”- Well, her dreams, and Nomura’s, though he’s dead-set on turning it into a nightmare for Koichi…. (Vigilantes ch 79) 6) “Yeah, you know, like I said, Koichi could probably already be there if he was on his on. I don`t know what kind of equipment y`all carrying on that truck, but he probably can do without it. “- Koichi might be able to fly, but need needed some way to stick that landing with an unconscious passenger. “Still, that must`ve hurt like hell, I hope he managed to slow down a lot before hitting that thing, because otherwise his internal organs and bones won`t have a good time.”- It would be even worse for Pop, given her insides are presently in the midst of a revolt from her current passenger. 7) “Oh right, the self-destruct thing. Trust me, that`s the least of her worries right now, there`s a fucking bee in her brain. Tamao got extracted while her heart was stopped, I think Pop will be fine.”- It was one thing to remove the queen when it was agitated and wreaking Tamao’s body, it’s another thing entirely when said bee has been shot up with an unknown drug that’s making it go unstable and at risk of violently erupting if agitated too much – plus, Soga clearly doesn’t have Knuckle’s iron willpower of split-second decision making skills to support him in moments like this. 8) “You know, I wouldn`t call this a deus ex machina, but fucking hell Furuhashi, do you know you can set up the cavalry before it charges into the enemies? It would be a lot more exciting seeing Midnight coming here before she suddenly is needed”- This does deflate their ‘victory’ here somewhat, given that their efforts only proved to be halfway successful with saving Pop, and she still needed professional assistance in the end. On the other hand, I got the impression furuhashi was trying to send a message of how not everybody can be a hero, even with a lot of potential, prep time and a plan of action. There’s limits you run into, and at times like these, it’s ok to ask for aid, especially because it helps prove to them that not every hero and official would judge Pop as a villain despite her actions. On the other hand, it would have been nice if Koichi had come to that realisation himself organically, and called Midnight for aid… or maybe even have has Pop’s singing group to contact her for him in case things turned out of the worse 9) “This was supposed to be Koichi`s sink or swim, there were no heroes that he could trust on, no allies besides those criminals with a warehouse, this was supposed to be the point where the lines were blurry between good and evil, since they were about to do something that, although necessary, is pretty fucked up. And then you show up.

And now we have a hero that not only has an ability that can calm down pop, but is willing to help with no questions asked.”- Granted, Koichi’s efforts were still necessary to actually get Pop to a location where Midnight could help subdued the bees within and away from Nomura’s control, but it would have been better if Koichi had had the foresight to relaise this was going to be an outcome they’d need to deal with, remembered Midnight’s subduing scent quirk from that pub crawl, and discreetly arranged with her to meet up here once he’d gotten Pop out of the line of fire himself, in a way that didn’t direct unwanted attention into Midnight interfering with another Pro hero’s arrest of a villain and lets Midnight handle the part of saving Pop that Koichi and crew aren’t equipped to handle themselves. 10) “And that raises the question of why it hasn`t done that already? Knuckle saved tamao because he acted fast, once her heart was stopped he immediately removed the bee, but Pop here- jesus, she got shot down, Koichi run away with her, flew up and then crashed down and now we`re talking about removing it. The Parasite is trying to charge overtime it seems.”- Tamao’s body still had bees and other options to use and she was ‘controlled’ by the Queen throughout the whole mess, but Nomura’s shot has effectively disrupted the Queen’s control and rendered it unstable, unable to fully control either Pop or itself, thus giving the kids a larger window to either extract or neutralise it. (vigilantes ch 80) 11) “Yeah I truly believe that one, alright… Suuuuure. I`m shiver in me timbers over the possibility of Pop dying here, because Furuhashi would most certainly do that, right. sure.”- Well, she sure didn’t get off easy regardless… 12) “Yeah see. Pop is Twitching and and convulsing? Well, fear not, here`s the one hero that can put her to sleep with her quirk, who just so happen to also be completely onboard with everything.

So much for “we can`t trust the heroes on this one””- Well, to be fair, the majority of heroes who didn’t know Pop, they couldn’t cooperate with, and if they’d come close to actually taking Pop down, then Nomura would have sneakily detonated her before anybody knew what was up, so Koichi’s aid was still vital in getting her away from him and his ‘script’, but having Koichi independently rely on the allies he’s made so far would have made him some across as a better independent ‘hero’ than he does. Regardless, for his first actual act of heroism in the field, it wasn’t overall bad – if Knuckle had still been around, he could have probably taken over the bee extraction without Midnight, so I guess it’s to highlight that Koichi won’t automatically succeed at becoming a hero on his first attempt without adult supervision to help him out when he falters? 13) “Why you looked at him? When did you suddenly started looking up to Koichi for confirmation? “- Soga’s the ‘technical’ leader of this band, but Koichi’s still the one actually being the hero, so it’s his call – especially since Soga’s well aware he ain’t hero material. 14) “HOLY FUCK IT WAS HIM

HE ACTUALLY TRACKED DOWN KOICHI?

NOW, HOW DID HE GOT HERE SO FAST? I THOUGHT THIS ENDEAVOR COULDN`T FLY, DON`T TELL ME HE FUCKING POWER-WALKED ALL THIS WAY FURUHASHI”- I’m more interested in the random bystander he shoved out the way to reach them. Very crowed back-alley for what was supposed to be a ‘remote’ hiding spot they could safely extract the bee in. 15) “Also, endeavor just arrived, there`s no way he`s gonna let this go on, this is an absurd, and those people here are criminals on his eyes”- The good news is, with Puto out cold, Soga and co just look like some random bystanders helping out their drunk friend after a hard night’s drinking that were passing by where Koichi and Pop crashed down, meaning they have plausible deniability protecting them. 16) “You`re barking up the wrong tree Midnight, five minutes ago Endeavor wanted to turn her into a pile of smoldering ashes, I don`t think he`s just gonna let her go scot-free. This Endeavor would put her in handcuffs and ship her to Tartarus without batting an eye”- That was when she was still an active threat and could be immolated under the flimsy excuse that she was a danger to others. Rendered unconscious and in critical condition, there’s no longer any justification for Endeavour to flame-broil her – plus, he’s presently more enraged against Koichi for accidentally hitting his ‘All Might’ button, so he’s got a more pressing target to go after than her. 17) “I bet he`s gonna eat that one. Just watch it.”- He might be more aggressive and confrontational than MHA-Endeavour, but this Endeavour still isn’t dumb enough to pick a fight with another pro hero that could devolve into a scandal over a situation that’s now basically resolved without any proof, so he just takes the obvious lie whilst he looks for Koichi himself. 18) “KOICHI PLEASE WHY ARE YOU CLIMBING THIS BUILDING RIGHT WHERE HE CAN SEE YOU

YOU LOOKED LIKE YOU WERE BEHIND A WALL, WHY DO YOU NEED TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY”- He was actually hiding behind the giant inflatable landing pad they set up, which would have been the first place Endeavour checked out as being massively suspicious and wouldn’t have hidden him for long- seems he was taking the opportunity to stealthily slide up the nearest building whilst keeping an eye on Endeavour to know when to speed up before his attention was brought back to him.

19) “Now Koichi also learned how to teleport, or become invisible, because there`s no way he managed to climb that whole thing in the second it took for Endeavor to turn around.”- You can technically achieve both of those through the power of Turbo Fast. @thelreads
