thinking about the french spoken in all for the game makes me lose my mind sometimes like as far as I remember neil learned/spoke french mostly in quebec (although they might have spent time in france as well?) and kevin learned it from jean who is from MARSEILLE like the accents happening are truly bizarre …. jean moreau speaks french in a singsong lilting accent and neil does too but nasal as hell. they’re all walking around sounding like they’re reciting nursery rhymes. and kevin realistically is an american who learned japanese as his second language and then french for utility (presumably under rikos nose ? again can’t recall canon but if so then not a ton of time to practice/work on fluency) so that’s gotta be the flattest least charming accent in the world. I could think about this forever

I'm not sure if you take CoD requests but I was wondering if maybe you could do headcanons for Alejandro(if you write for him) with a reader who's Cajun, has a Cajun accent, and calls him Sha(its Cajun slang for sweetheart/dear/darling)
If you don't write for Alejandro, maybe Price or Soap
Oh this is so cute!!

PSA - I did a lot of research so I tried 😅
• You get stationed out to the main base in Los Vaqueros, tasked to help the people there and work alongside Colonel Alejandro Vargas.
• Arriving on a helicopter you smile as you meet Alejandro smiling at you. "Welcome to Las Almas my friend- Heard great things about you"
• "Boujour! Comment ça s’plume? Alejandro no?" You say cheerfully clearly throwing off the man at the French being thrown his way- But a French he was incredibly unfamiliar with
• "Sargent (Y/L/N)? Correct?" You nod calmly, The Colonel smiking a bit- "We must leave soon then"
• "Don't be like that Cher" You say with a laugh and watch the man's face twist in mild confusion still.
• "Sha?" He repeated, you realizing quickly your mistake with a hearty laugh. "It's a term of endearment- Like Darlin'- Now, You said we had to leave No? Allons!"
• Alejandro nods and leads you off to your station, Still a bit confused over what the fuck you were saying-
• After a few weeks on base he starts to understand, realizing you are speaking a form of French mixed with English. The two of you talking quite often now as he shows you around Las Almas and the situation there.
• "They told me you are American-" Alejandro questioned as you two drove through the town.
• "I am-" You clarified with a smile. "From Louisiana" Alejandro nodded his head like he suddently got it.
• "Isn't uh it Creole? Es.. That's the American word right?" Alejandro questions, making you shake your head. "Two differen' peoples Sha-" You say as you try to explain the difference.
• This poor man is so confused- Feels like he's in school again and was just given a very hard exam that he didn't study for.
• "Creole is more City and Cajun is country" You simplified, which seemed to ease the confusion for the time being.
• The two of you become fast friends- You of course a chatter box and always wanting to learn and Alejandro always wanting to teach and see new things.
• Alejandro begins to teach you more Spanish while you teach him French-
• He likes to tease about how you talk with your hands and your passion behind your speaking. Finds it funny
• You two do have arguments at times, like an old couple do at stupid things. However rank is never pulled or acknowledged since it's always fun/personal banter
• However what truly soothed over any issues was the food- The two of you becoming quick food buddies as you'd share your guys food with each other.
• Alejandro walked straight to you on base early morning after a briefing, staring hard at you as he held a wrapped item in hand-
Tumblr media
"...This is a La Guacamaya torta- It is one of my favorites... I added extra chicharrón" He flexes as he shows off the item. You nodding in agreement that it looked pretty damn good.
• "Not bad Not bad-" You smile, Before reaching for your own item with a grin. Pulling out a well worn Tupperware bowl-
Tumblr media
• "Now, Had to improvise is bit- since Not many of my ingredients in this neck of the woods so I did so?' Pastalaya and found ya a le Boudin to have later"
• You say proudly showing off your lunch. Alejandro nodding also impressed- Before the two of you switch lunches and sit together to eat happily.
• It didn't take a genius for others to figure out you were buddy buddy with the Colonel- While some didn't like it, most warmed up to you and stared in your joy and willingness to expand-
• While you let anyone else know clearly they could go fuck themselves-
• However Alejandro was always your ride or die.
• The two of you shit talk for hours while eating... Half the time Not even understanding each other as you share new insults and curse words.
• He was your best friend, and you his-

When your french boyfriend loves to tease you about how "american" you are, you just think you should write a song about it.
---
Actor!Joseph Descamps x Singer!Reader
Warnings: none but flufffff
---
---
Joseph Descamps wasn't fond of the fact that "the americans" drove on the right side of the road or that the wheel was on the left side of the car. But you grew up here, and he trusts you.
It helped him relax, knowing what you were wearing. His famous brown leather jacket with an "I ♡ Paris" shirt on the inside. You looked like a tourist in his country, but he guesses you look "trendy" here.
He places his hand on your thigh, and it's warm enough to make you shiver in relaxation.
To you, Joseph Descamps was the dream boyfriend. He's pretty, tall, smart, funny, fashionable, and even more. What you liked most was his accent and the way he speaks his mother tongue. He's almost too perfect, like a man you'd only find in poems.
Every time you cracked a joke, he'd laugh uncontrollably. He understood every one of them, clinging on the words like a ladder.
When he saw an american flag in the back of your car that you hadn't taken out since the fourth of july, he teased you about being so american. You could only roll your eyes, planning on kissing those teasing lips later.
Every time you kissed, it felt like so many emotions filled you up, but you absorbed it in every type of way. It felt so nice, it felt so good. He made you feel like this and only him.
Being honest to yourself, you'd marry the man. Sure, you're young, and sure you've only been together for a year, but you love him, and he loves you.
•○●$☆$●○•
You get a call from your producer and long-time best friend, asking if you were free over the week, having come up with an idea for a single.
"Well, I think I do. You know how I've been with Joseph these past few months since my break? Well, he's just so perfect. I mean his fluffy hair, his pretty eyes, his pretty pink lips, and his accent, God, his accent. He's so well read and so well dressed and he-"
"Hun, you're rambling again." Fuck. This is the 5th time.
"Sorry."
Plus, every time you lie on your bed, planning on taking a nap, it's so hard to do when he's literally right beside you, available for kissing and cuddling and loving. You're so in love with the boy you sacrificed your beauty sleep. Imagine that.
Okay, so this might be a bit much a bit too soon. But if love ever came up, he'd be the first in my mind. I haven't said I love you yet, and he hasn't either, but I know deep inside me I do. I really fucking do.
•○●$☆$●○•
"Joseph?" He tilts his head up from his paperback, raising his brows.
"Yes, mon ange?" He scoots a bit closer, bringing his arm around my shoulder.
I smile to myself, thinking of a game. "Think of a number."
He smiles back, this game all too familiar for him. "Okay." He pauses. "1, 2, 3..."
"6."
"I love you." I whisper, looking into his eyes from below.
He only stares, lips slowly turning up into a smile.
"I love you, too." He pauses again.
"Je t'aime, mon ange. Je ne peux pas respirer sans toi. Chaque fois que nous sommes séparés, tu es toujours dans mon esprit. Je t'aime, je t'aime, je t'aime." He kisses my lips after every I love you, and my breath stumbles at his confession.
"I don't understand what you're saying!" I laugh, kissing him back on occasion.
"Good." Another kiss. "It's too much for now. Just know I love you." The next kiss lasted longer. It was gentle, it was hungry, it was love.
•○●$☆$●○•
When "So American" came out, it hit the charts. Everyone loved it, and everyone supported it.
That's when they started to get the idea you, famous pop singer Y/N L/N, was dating famous french actor, Joseph Descamps.
Well, we'll see how long we can keep it from them.

Dove dove I wanna hear what do you think of epel's and Vil's relationship specifically from the ceremonial robes vignette I had this discussion with one of my moots but I have "brainnothinkitis" and can't put how I feel about it in words but it seems rather interesting maybe because I was more mom oriented raised??? Teaching posture is something so common to me but I wanna hear what you think about! It feels nice to see more pomi stand have a good day :3
sorry this took so long to answer, I wanted to really think about it and it's still not even coherent
BUT. yeah. I so get where you're coming from. I have this funny family dynamic thing where my paternal side are american farmers I basically never see and my maternal side are very traditional old money europeans. so, um. yeah. I was being taught how to set tables properly and host guests when I was like. three? I remember getting scolded a lot for things like posture and "sitting weirdly" (autism) and "acting weirdly" (autism) and not wanting to touch people (autism). at least vil wouldn't make anyone do la bise. or would he?? I shiver at the very thought
I think what stands out to me most about that vignette (besides rook being autistic I love him so much. I would switch places with epel in a heartbeat. outta my way gayboy I'm about to get it!!!! /ref) is that vil apparently has no reservations about straight up manhandling his students when he sees fit. why??? I don't know, I just find it really interesting. something that fic writers should think about more often
but anyway. I do think that the vignette is a good summary of the dynamic. of course, epel comes to understand and respect vil as a mentor and a friend later on, but there's still some amount of distance between them. now. rook is like the glue that holds that fucking dorm together. I think that this vignette represents that perfectly
those're my basic thoughts concerning the vignette. I got really distracted by imagining rook saying "naughty naughty!" in a french accent because that's extremely funny to me. for some reason
then I started thinking about what dorm I would be placed in and, as much as I could get by in pomefiore, it would probably end up being something terrible for me. like diasomnia with king codependent and his social anxiety nightmare crew

2023 at the Movies: A Year in Review
2023 has been an odd year for American cinema in particular, between overall tepid box office outside of a few big hits and the combination of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes affecting release dates as well as promotional tactics. (Just so we're clear, this is a Union Solidarity Blog) But it was a fascinating year artistically nonetheless, especially on the blockbuster end. What this list aims to achieve is sort of a capsule review of the theatrical releases I saw (not counting streaming-only films even if I ended up seeing theatrical releases ON streaming) and how I felt about them in capsule review form. And even then, there's still stuff I need to catch up on like Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Oppenheimer, Elemental, or Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Anyhoo, on with my list, in chronological release order:
John Wick: Chapter 4: Much like its titular hero, there are perhaps some signs that this franchise could benefit from taking a bit of a rest. Some of the worldbuilding is going from knowingly absurd to just plain absurd, and a couple early action beats, while fun (NUNCHUCKS), are a little familiar in terms of director Chad Stahelski's neon-as-fuck aesthetics. Ultimately, it's not too much to derail things, as Keanu Reeves proves a capable grounding lead like always, and the Parisian third act is giddy, comically overblown violence in the grand John Wick tradition that reaches an unexpected poignancy. The supporting cast might also be one of the best in the series; while Asia Kate Dillion's unflappable Adjudicator is missed from the last installment, we do receive Bill Skarsgard doing an OUTRAAGEOUS French accent as a smarmy villain you really want to see dead by the end of this, Donnie Yen as a clever, funny spin on the blind swordsman trope, Rina Sawayama is both badass and touching, Shamier Anderson stands out by dialing down, and my beloved Clancy Brown has some of the best implicit "are you fucking kidding me" reactions I've seen in a while.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie: I was honestly dreading this for a while. Illumination Entertainment is a perfectly cromulent animation studio who makes films that, with a couple exceptions, represent pretty much everything I dislike about American family filmmaking: loud, hyperactive, deficient of nutritional value, and did I mention loud? But the trailers started impressing me in terms of how well they adapted the candy-colored toybox Nintendo aesthetic to a wider theatrical scope. And if nothing else, casting Jack Black as Bowser would probably be pretty awesome (spoiler alert: he was). Thankfully, it manages to be an immensely entertaining, zippy adventure film that minimizes potential annoyances at nearly every turn. This is primarily thanks to a ready-to-play, enthusiastic voice cast (outside of Black, I particularly like Pratt and Day's brotherly dynamic and Anya Taylor-Joy doing a Disney Princess-esque comedy action spin on Peach), a smartly simple story structure, and leaving a lot of potential open for the future like Seth Rogen's lovable ready-for-spinoff-movies Donkey Kong. It may not rock the boat, but it was better than it had any business being, and that counts for a lot in my book.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: The Marvel Cinematic Universe and I are admittedly on a bit of a break. Not because they're doing anything WRONG per se, just that a lot of their shows and movies haven't enticed me as much in the past year. I did get out to see this, though, which is both the best all around MCU film since Endgame and very possibly the best film of its own trilogy. James Gunn pulls out all the stops emotionally for his Marvel swan song (godspeed to you over at the still-in-progress trashfire that is Warner Bros. Discovery, good sir), crafting a beautiful, resonant journey for all the characters. The ensemble cast fires on all cylinders, for one. While Bradley Cooper is the obvious vocal standout as Rocket takes center stage, it's assuredly the role of Chris Pratt's career (other non-Mario/Marvel directors, take note! You can in fact have this guy be funny, credibly tough, AND sympathetic instead of missing out on the other two), Zoe Saldana navigates a difficult emotional dance, Pom Klementieff finds real heart in Mantis, Dave Bautista is still one of our most interesting wrestlers-turned-actors in the choices he makes, Karen Gillan has slowly become of the MCU's MVPs as Nebula, Will Poulter is endearingly dunderheaded as a comedic take on Adam Warlock, and Chukwudi Iwuji proves a truly vile villain who exemplifies the maxim of "if you really want an audience to just HATE a motherfucker, have him torture cute animals". And of course Gunn's musical tastes remain impeccable, such as a Beastie Boys needle drop that prompts a truly bitchin' fight scene (oddly the second time this specific song happened this year in a Pratt-led vehicle). It's funny, it made me ugly cry at SEVERAL points, and I got to see a psychic cosmonaut dog beat people's asses with her mind. What more could I want?
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse: Into the Spider-Verse was a revolution and a revelation for what the American animated film industry could accomplish artistically and technically. How could a sequel possibly live up to it? Across does, against all odds, proving to be the Empire Strikes Back to the original's Star Wars in terms of going darker/more complex on the emotions and to greater visual heights (albeit with the caveat that maybe next time, we can manage the production better and not crunch people so much). Co-directors Justin K. Thompson, Kemp Powers, and Joaquim Dos Santos (who I've stanned as one of our best animation action directors from Justice League Unlimited through Voltron Legendary Defender) craft a propulsive narrative that asks big questions about who and what Spider-Man is. And while those will have to wait to be fully answered in the third installment, what it sets up is no less compelling or thrilling. Shout-outs in particular go to Hailee Steinfeld, who has to anchor this film with Gwen as much as Shameik Moore's still-iconic Miles; Daniel Pemberton for an outstanding score; Oscar Isaac for giving rich complexity to Miguel O'Hara, who could have felt like a boorish bully in lesser hands; and Jason Schwartzman for not just proving he transitions REALLY well into voicework between this and projects like Klaus, but being by turns pathetically funny and terrifying in ways I've never heard him be as the Spot. Can't wait to see where that goes next time in particular.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny: "Pleasant surprise" comes to mind. While I never hated Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as much as most, it was definitely a little underwhelming as a possibly final Indy adventure. (Not helping is that Steven Spielberg immediately turned around and made an infinitely better indy movie in the form of The Adventures of Tintin) So I was curious to see how going to the well for seemingly the real final adventure would work this time around. Thankfully, director James Mangold proves he has a good eye for creative action, even if nothing here quite reaches the heights of the original trilogy, and Harrison Ford does some of his best acting in ages as a weary, burnt-out Indy; one always got the sense that THIS was much closer to his heart than Han Solo. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a terrific foil to him, joyously amoral (or so she says), while Mads Mikkelsen finds a new spin on coldly cruel cinematic Nazis; he has a tense reintroduction scene that had me squirming in my seat. Add in a slam-bang ending and a touching epilogue, and I'm pretty happy with where things end up for our favorite archaeologist. A solid B+, which we could use more of nowadays.
Also they Poochie-d Shia LaBeouf, which is hilarious to me on several levels.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One: The Mission: Impossible franchise has undergone a curious metamorphosis from where it started as one of many oldies TV adaptations in 1996 to a purposefully old-school action franchise. Director Christopher McQuarrie has become a pro at these over the last three installments, and Dead Reckoning (now no longer a part one, as the back-in-production followup will be retitled) has lots to offer both large and small for action fans even outside of the continued spectacle of Tom Cruise Possibly Wants To Die On Camera. Obviously the big stunt sequences remain a draw, like a terrific car chase through Rome or the climactic journey onboard the Orient Express because trains are ALWAYS bitchin' locations in movies. But just as good are pleasures like a tense cat-and-mouse game in an airport where nobody's quite sure whose side Hayley Atwell's thief Grace is on, Henry Czerny coming back to the franchise after 27 years and looking as shiftily patriotic as ever, Pom Klementieff on this list for the second time looking really hot as she whoops ass, and Cary Elwes getting an unexpectedly choice exposition monologue. Plus the whole deal with the A.I. villain ended up being, uh, fairly relevant.
Barbie: A brilliant human comedy from an unexpected source. This could have gone wrong in so many different ways, I can easily imagine a version that's WAY more lugubrious and, crucially, much less funny. But director/co-writer Greta Gerwig has quickly become one of our best talents between this and the wildly-different-but-has-more-in-common-than-you'd-think Little Women (I also still need to see to heard-it's-excellent Lady Bird). With an infinitely clever script (I love in particular that the "real world" is just as ridiculous in its own way as Barbieland) and Sarah Greenwood's impeccable production design, Gerwig and her cast craft a feminist fable that remains light and funny even at its most strident and angry. Margot Robbie has never been better, hilarious and gut-punching by equal measure, America Ferrera ends up as the unexpected heart of the piece, and Ryan Gosling is absolutely hysterical as Ken while still making him intensely sympathetic. He and Robbie deserve Oscar noms in particular. No, I'm not kidding. Might expand this one to a full review at some point tbh.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem: I missed this in theaters and regret it immensely, given that this is a hilarious, cheerfully irreverent take on characters who've really managed a surprising amount of relevance in the modern age. Actually having teen actors voice the Turtles makes them feel so authentic, and they're matched well by an equally game cast like Ayo Edebiri's thoroughly modern April O'Neill, Jackie Chan as a more bumbling-but-heartfelt version of Splinter than usual, and Paul Rudd going full surfer bro as Mondo Gecko. And of course the scribbled-notebook underground comics vibe of the animation is a neat bit of full circle aesthetics if you know these guys' origins.
Wish: All of you are wrong and being dumb about this movie. It's not that I can't grok some of the criticisms as being legitimate, to be fair; for example, the songs, while very good on their own IMO, don't always hit the iconic level of a Frozen or Encanto. But the vitriol with which they've been expressed, and this odd narrative that Disney is in the toilet artistically and needs to nebulously "fix" things, is something I can't at all agree with. It's gorgeously rendered, for one; yes, I would potentially like to see a return to full 2D animated films for the studio at some point too. But if they're gonna experiment even marginally with CGI, I applaud co-directors Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn making it look this painterly as a starting point. And as with a lot of modern Disney, there's real richness and inner life to these characters. Ariana DeBose is a winning heroine as Asha, who feels distinct from other "princesses" by essentially being working class and unionizing the kingdom. And Chris Pine as Magnifico is a Disney Villain for the ages, blending real complexity in his relationships with scenery-chewing madness. (Also am I the only one who got major "studio executive/CEO" vibes off him?) If this is "mid" or "bland" Disney, I really question what some of y'all are seeing that I seemingly can't.
Also I liked the 100th anniversary references, sue me. The last one in particular gets points for quiet charm rather than grandstanding.
The Boy and the Heron: Hayao Miyazaki, anime's favorite grumpy old man, comes back out of retirement for like the fifth time. Seriously, remember when Princess Mononoke was supposed to be his last film 25+ years ago? I'll believe his "last film" is truly his last when he's in the cold, cold ground. Regardless of the continuing saga of Old Man Won't Retire Because He Seemingly Can't Be Alone With His Own Thoughts, this is a brilliant, haunting spectacle of animation that might be a new favorite for me. Some have called it confusing, whereas I go for "dreamlike", possibly his most to date. Nearly every frame is suffused with longing and melancholy (though this also has some of Miyazaki's best comedy in a while), and, oddly like Wish, this feels like a true career reflection, if a bit more fraught and questioning what legacy truly means. Joe Hisaishi contributes possibly his moodiest, most dissonant score, with little of the bombast or whimsical charm that typifies his music, but it works unfathomably well. Credit also to the dub, with Robert Pattinson as funny and menacing as you've heard, but Luca Pandoval is also excellent as our stoic lead Mahito, Florence Pugh manages to be both a total badass and a funny old woman (it makes sense in context, I promise), Christian Bale puts forth a fascinating two-step with his boisterous father, Gemma Chan and Karen Fukuhara nail some complex emotional turns, Willem Dafoe nearly steals the whole thing in under two minutes, Dave Bautista makes a real meal out of a part not much bigger than that, and Mark Hamill finds resonance as a tired old man.

Reading fics in english makes you discover crazy things :
- baby showers : seems pretty helpful. In my family we just do a family gathering a little after the baby is born and everyone brings helpful gifts, but in what I read it seems friends can come too
- Italian character : *talks funny (italian accent) and adds funny words (italian words) in their sentences* Characters in so many fics for no fucking reason : « You're like, french, right ? » Dude, okay, once wrote, italian and french can look a little similar. Enough for me to decipher some words despite not knowing italian. But heard ???? Don't you here the "E" in "Amore" ???? In what world does "cazzo" sounds like a french swear word ???? I saw this one too many times and, while I'm sure Gyro and Polnareff would be great friends, none of them would want that
- character talking about going in a place in the same country : « We could take the plane ». The US is, like, trainless right ? That's the only way. Because you would be saying shits like that if you had often late or on strike high speed trains with a cute jiggle. You wouldn't.
- trying to decipher the accent, clue version : « Okay so he said he's from Kentucky, have a thick accent and is a "true country boy" so it's like American Accent++ ? Wait no, wasn't American Accent++ Texas ? Maybe one of them needs another "+"... Which one is it tho ?? »
- trying to decipher the accent, written accent version : « Okay, what fucking word is that ?? I can't even try to find which accent eat which letter if I don't fucking know which letter is eaten ! OKAY now what word is THAT ?? How am I supposed to pronounce that ?? You know now what ? Screw this ! I give up »
- Just what do you think europeans are ??? Why do you think we don't use deodorant ??? And it's not just one person either, I saw it multiple times ? Not a lot but enough to see it's a thing, apparently ????
- You guys don't know how to write french and honestly, I don't blame you. "My dear" is not gendered in english, but it is in french ! Said to a woman/girl, it's "ma chérie". Said to a man/boy, it's "mon chéri". It's also not a romantic word either, but a general word for loved ones. Like, you can call your romantic partner "chéri(e)", of course, but you can also call your children, or even your friends that. It's always a favorite in french drag queens vocabulary. Btw "cher" (masc) or "chère" (fem) is only used in letters, like :
"Cher Lloyd,
*content of the letter*"
Or, you can also be use it, either before a name (cher Lloyd), before what the person is to you (cher frère : dear brother) or after the word "très" which means "very" if what's you're writing/your character is from the past. It's kind of a posh way of talking tho, so if your character is not from a noble/rich family or something like that, it would be weird for them to use it.

im lowkey losing count but lafayette pt. 6???
okay this is a little bit embarrassing because this part will have a lot less detail since I'm both uneducated and lazy when it comes to the French Revolution SFHKSJFHSKJ also the details about lafayette in this section are highkey boring sooo here's pt. 5 and lets get moving
In Between Revolutions
Lafayette returned home from the war in December 1781, but no one really cared because Marie Antoinette had just given birth to her first son, so they were like. "ok! anyway" when they saw him.
He didn't spend very long in France, and he returned to America to do a small little tour of the states in 1784. He stayed at Mount Vernon for a little while, which would be the last time he ever saw his adoptive father, George Washington.
I'm going to talk about slavery now. Lafayette never commented on slavery at Mount Vernon, mostly due to his reverence of Washington, however Lafayette was proactive in abolitionism. He created his own plan to purchase an island plantation where the enslaved people would work to earn pay and be able to buy their own freedoms. He and Adrienne both arranged for education programs and career options for the enslaved people so that they would be well-adjusted to society by the time they were awarded their freedom. However, property seizures during the French Revolution would prevent them from ever being freed. So, you could say Lafayette owned slaves, but you have to consider that the only enslaved people he ever purchased were for this specific project.
Also, I'm begging you to look into James Lafayette and Peter Ostiquette (Otchikeita) because I don't have time to get into their stories here but they are really interesting POC figures in early US history. send me an ask if you want, i just don't have enough patience to do the research along with all this lafayette shit
While he was in America, he helped negotiate a treaty with the Six Nations/Iroquois with James Madison, since he already had particularly good relations with the Oneida tribe. The Oneidas gave him the name Kayewla, which was the name of one of their former warriors.
He returned to France after his short visit and helped negotiate trade agreements between his mother country and the United States along with Thomas Jefferson. Technically on paper, Lafayette was only supposed to have an advisory role in these international affairs, but he just. started doing it. and this pissed off a special someone.
That special someone was, of course, John fucking "I'm a bitch to everyone and wonder why they don't like me" Adams. Btw Lafayette did NOTHING WRONG to him, he was just butthurt. Lafayette would continue to press for an official representative of France (which wasn't allowed since he was allied to both France and America) while John Adams was fired <3
Lafayette was also a little involved in the Society of Cincinnati controversy, but he followed Washington's lead by not getting too involved. He was also a part of the Republic of Letters and the American Philosophical Society. With all that along with being a Freemason, he was basically admitting to being in the Illuminati
Could you imagine if I was just like a really intense conspiracy theorist and this is how you found out? I'm not but like. that's pretty funny
French Pre-Revolution
When Lafayette reestablished himself in Paris, he was a much richer, much more confident guy, which allowed for all kinds of rich guy shenanigans. These shenanigans included, two affairs, being a karen, getting into debt, and politics! Let's talk about the politics part, because I don't get paid enough to talk about all of it.
Lafayette was elected to the Second Estate of the Assembly of Notables, which has a french name thats almost exactly the same but I'm too lazy to type accents. He had very ambitious goals that aligned with his very liberal morals, which caused him to be closely allied with the men of the Third Estate aka the rich poor people.
Lafayette would end up having a crucial role in the writing of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, and a more minor role in organizing the Constitution, since he was too busy with the actual revolution!
The French Revolution Revolution
I just want to preface that, in the French Revolution, Lafayette was considered one of the leaders of the moderate party. "But pub-lius, I thought he was super radical because of his behavior during the American Revolution!" Yeah, well, little richie, you're fucking wrong. There are always bigger fish and there are always more liberal white men. Lafayette would get out-liberaled and out-conservatived by almost everyone during the Revolution, and that's why he didn't last. Basically. Pretty much.
Lafayette was named Commander of the National Guard in 178 which made his name even longer by the National Assembly, which was the first Revolutionary French government! There would be fifty million fucking more governments from now until 1792 i swear to fucking god-
If I sound stress to you, it's because this is literally the most stressful part of Lafayette's life, and actually I don't think it gets more stressful than this. I'd say Lafayette was more stressed as Commander of the NG than Washington was as Commander of the Continental Army. He was basically always running back and forth across Paris, putting down rebellions, and starting massacres because he's stupid, and organizing the Fête de Fédération, and constantly being threatened with lampposts and pikes. It stresses me out just reading about that.
After the more liberal white men took over the French government in 1792, Lafayette fled the country expecting more friendly faces outside France's borders. He was fucking wrong, he got arrested by Austrians immediately. He remained in prison for like five years or something.
What had happen was Lafayette was viewed by the powers of Europe as the motherfucker responsible for bringing the revolution to France, and they decided they needed to take the bitch out back, except not really, they just took his clothes and put him in a dirty cell for a while. Eventually, Adrienne and the girls joined him, while Georges Washington de Lafayette escaped to America to live with Alexander Hamilton. Which that is just a really American thing to happen.
This imprisonment had severe consequences for Adrienne, who would be permanently injured by the illness she and the others suffered while in prison, which would eventually cause her death in 1807, but we're not done with her yet.
Womp Womp Napoleon is in charge, and he doesn't like Lafayette, because Lafayette said he was a dictator, and that hurt his feelings, so he exiled Lafayette and his son and sons in law. So, while Lafayette was gardening in exile, Adrienne stepped up to the mother fucking plate and went into Paris every day to absolutely girlboss her way into reclaiming her family's citizenships and fortunes and KICKED ABSOLUTE ASS YOU GO GIRL I LOVE YOU.
Also I'm fairly sure it was during this time that Lafayette fucked up his leg by slipping on ice and breaking it and then it was improperly treated so his hip. rotted???? and he was in severe pain for the rest of his life. Nice going, fuckface.
Retirement and DEATH :'(
Lafayette did manage to scrap together a bit of a career after reentering France. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies and had minor political roles along with his son, but he was more like an antique vase at this point.
He did go on a tour in 1824 and I highly recommend checking out The Lafayette Trail, where they track every place he went during this Farewell Tour!! It's so cool and I love them. I looked into if and when Lafayette came to Louisiana, and found out his fucking ship sunk on his way here FKSJFHSJ so he was stranded in the Mississippi river for a little bit which is silly.
While Lafayette was managing his estate, La Grange, he made many young friends, to whom he served as a mentor. In return, they kept him appraised of all the political and scientific developments which he was very interested in. La Grange is very interesting, since it was largely based on Mount Vernon, which if I think about that too much I'll cry.
And then... Lafayette died on May 20, 1834 at... 4:20 am. Historians won't tell you that. They don't want you to know that he died at 4:20. But I'll tell you. I'm a beacon of truth.
Also, by the way, he died of fucking pneumonia. And I'm not judging him for dying of pneumonia, I almost died of pneumonia, but i am ABSOLUTELY judging him for GETTING pneumonia. He got pneumonia from being outside in the rain repeatedly and refusing to go inside or take shelter. I got it from the same thing but I was like TEN YEARS OLD AND IT WAS HALLOWEEN, and he was a GROWN MAN WHO JUST NEEDED AN OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE. So, anyway, yeah, he's fucking dead.
this last half of his life is very rushed, I admit, but things should go a bit better with the last person on our list here. Which, by the way, prepare your ass for that. He's rapidly approaching.

some light-hearted and/or silly headcanons for the fn.af muses!! ( crossed out because some kept getting sad or dark sorry LMAO )
Tumblr media
is a big fan of snow. his family used to travel to the mountains regularly ( i swear this headcanon isn't getting any sadder than that. ) obv it's a lot less likely to snow in hurricane, but y'know. if it ever did? oh boy. it's definitely a very bad idea to let him out into it ( melting water getting into his circuitry and all that ), but he will ask. more than once. insistently. catch him standing in front of the windows just staring outside
Tumblr media
absolutely does have a british accent despite it making so little sense ( born in utah to a very english father, a french american mother with an indecipherable accent, and surrounded by americans. it's funny to me. ) he tried to lose the accent post-william going missing. it lasted a singular attempt in public. he just can't fake accents. he will reply to any questions about where in england he's from with a deadpan "utah" however, and yes he does find that kinda funny
Tumblr media
genuinely actually like so good with kids. not just the big performing and playing, but she's very good with the emotional side of things. she's hung out with kids who were left alone or had been bullied more than once. she generally gets very attached to individuals who spend time with her and remembers things like names and birthdays completely organically ( as in, susie remembers them herself ) on the flip side, she doesn't take it well when an older child stops coming to the pizzeria or a family moves away. in many ways, she sees herself like those children she tries to help—rejected and alone, save for the band
Tumblr media
completely oblivious to the animatronics becoming haunted until it's near impossible to ignore. definitely thinks their coding is just fucked up at first. he only really decides even that when he's working late one night, looks up, and sees bonnie just standing in the half-open door. staring. he doesn't recognize the actual hauntings for years. at first because he simply doesn't believe in ghosts, and, later, because he's in denial. either way, the animatronics speaking to him in strangely human ways will always send shivers up his spine
Tumblr media
aunt who lets her niece and nephews get away with literally anything. william is like "please don't let them have too many sweets while i'm gone" and she's like "yeah no of course" and then the door shuts and she turns to them and is like "so let's go out for ice cream" in all seriousness, jayne dotes because she knows shit's been hard ( the divorce, and then later the loss of CC and elizabeth ). she can and will try to dote on mike even when he's a teen/adult because she really does sympathize. ( mini bonus william hc: he absolutely knows this goes on, but jayne just generally gets a free pass from him on most things LMAO )
Tumblr media
he really does just have the time of his life when he first becomes sentient. like, he's not really fully aware during The Horrors, and he genuinely loves performing. unironically views william as his perfect, amazing creator until he does realize. spring is never dangerous in the way the others are—he's not haunted, not really. still, he wanders at night, even when he's long, loooong out of use. he talks with far too much self-awareness to night guards and other staff. he begins to glitch out generally, but he's usually only dangerous toward one person: william.

Thanks for getting me into Interview with a Vampire! I shall forever hear Lestat saying “You are a library of confusion” somewhere in my mind. (Also, the accents are so fucking on point! I love an authentic accent. How many language does Lestat even speak??)
GLAD YOU’RE HERE ANON THEY’RE SO !!!!!!!!! (Also if you’ve read the books, Lestat saying Louis is a library is so fucking funny on another level)
The accents are absolutely buckwild. I didn’t really expect Sam Reid to lean into it so hard but he did and it’s fucking perfect. I speak French (not native) and I’m pretty used to hearing French on TV and being like “what the fuck kind of linguistic bloodbath did my ears just witness” but just the fact that I can understand what Lestat’s saying is amazing lol. He doesn’t sound native, but then again I think that would make sense? For someone that old who’s been all over the world, I feel like he’d have one of those international school kid accents where he has a vague accent no matter what language he speaks, even his mother tongue.
And fucking JACOB ANDERSON OH MY GOD. I should’ve known he’d kill the accent, the language creator from Game of Thrones was singing his praises for sounding so good with all the languages he spoke in the show. Southern accents in general are hard (see: True Blood) but a NOLA accent? That’s a really specific regional accent that would be difficult for an American, let alone a British person to learn, esp if they’ve never been there. And he sounds so fucking good, it blows my mind. To think he’s actually got two accents in this show, bc his modern one is much lighter now, so he’s oscillating between the two constantly in every episode.
Anyway Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson are eating it up, Hollywood should sit down and take notes. 💅

the funny thing about nocturne is that so far there's not really any connections or nods to the past series? (well, good for us anyway but not so good for people who actually watched the first show) fastforwarding 300 years was already weird enough but besides a few references to concepts from before like the night creatures and forgemasters there's hardly any big thread? we don't even know how the belmonts were suddenly in america or how they were able to utilize magic now and have a bigger reputation lmao maybe that'll change as the rest of the episodes release but yeah knowing nothing about our main protag's family and whole reason for being just like last time is so -_-
Of all things they had to reference, they referenced the Forgemasters. It's like they did it to spite me personally, reminding me of my boys and how horribly they were mangled :( also they added a fucking MACHINE--
You're right, there is nothing that makes Nocturne CV and nothing that makes it a sequel to NFCV. There is no Dracula. There is no castle. The monsters are generic. Richter is American (but still speaks in a British accent???). His angst is about his Dead Mom and not about what it means to be a Belmont. The story is about stopping the French "elite", who is made of vampires but they're clearly meant to be seen as evil nobles more than monsters. It's also about American slavery, not even humans turned into cattle, no, historically accurate (?) American slavery in the Carribeans.
why... is it even called Castlevania? Where's the Castle? Where's the Vania? I reject the notion that this is a shitty fanfic: this isn't even an AU! This is just a bad series about the French Revolution + vampires!

Summer Love Club!

Chapter 4 : guess who's back?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are waiting for Yoimiya to come back from the airport, trying to focus on the book you are supposed to read. It's one of the books Keqing advised you to read for your culture. Frankly, it's made of incomprehensible words and, what is wrong with the author? Even you who likes to read, it's just boring and anything but healthy. Did she just marry her cousin with who she grew up like siblings because of her aunt? Who does that? Classical french literature just makes no sense to you.
Lost in your thoughts, you can't hear your friend greeting your parents on the ground floor, and she jumpscares you when she violently opens your bedroom's door, as you feel your heart seems to stop.
-HEYYYY BITCH I'M BACK !
-Oh fuck Yoimiya you scared me so much I almost died.
–You're not saying hi to your bestfriend? That's new.
You sigh, and pull her into a hug.
–Yeah, hello. I missed you.
[...]
You both decide to go on a walk to have a face-to-face discussion which you didn't have in one whole month. It's nice having her by your side again, she's like a bubble of light in your life and you can't help but smile as she talks about her internship and all the troubles she did back there.
-Hey, who is it? I never was him, she asks out of nowhere, as you try to understand who she's talking about. Right there, the ginger.
She points her finger to the direction of the said ginger.
-He seems in troubles.
Your eyes suddenly widen as you recognize Ajax, panicking and not knowing what to say as your other neighbour's are yelling at him.
-Damn, he's the american guy I talked y'all about!
-The one who said "bye cutie"?, she smile.
-Yes but that's not the moment Yoi, you sigh. He can't speak nor understand french, we got to help him.
-Right, right.
You both run to the small group of people, and hear Ajax trying to calm down your neighbors in a broken french.
-I'm sorry sir... I don't understand.
–STOP FAKING A FUCKING ENGLISH ACCENT YOU MOTHER FUCKER!!
-Hey, hey, you say in french to the intention of your neighbor. Calm down, okay? Why are y'all yelling?
-He stole my package and pretend he didn't !! Also he's faking an english accent to confuse me!
You nervously chuckle, and look at Ajax who seems more lost that you.
–Listen, I don't even know what he's talking about, I just went outside to walk a little and they jumped on me, the ginger says with a desesperate grimace on his lips.
-Look, he's at it again!!
You let out a sigh, nodding.
-Okay Ajax, let me handle this. Sir, that man right there is american and thus, he doesn't speak french and can't understand you. I'm sure he didn't mean to stole your package, okay? This must be a misunderstanding.
-I don't care he's american, I'm sure he stole it!
This is going to take so long..

I continue my October tradition of trying to read at least a few ~spoopy~ books to get in the Halloween mood... very tonal nonsensical now since I'm positing this weeks late but there we go
Tumblr media
The Apothecary Diaries v1
A manga that I’ve seen here and there. It had me intrigued so I finally decided to pick it up and see what I think. The main character finds herself forced to work in the inner palace as a servant… but her background is as an apothecary and things begin to change in her life when she solves a “curse” afflicting the royal heirs. I’m intrigued by the main characters introduced so far, though I haven’t decided if I’ll read more or not. I know it’s based off a light novel series that I think is getting an English release, so I may wait and try reading it like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bad Guys v1 / v2
Since the movie has come out I figured I should try to knock out the first two book of the series and try to see what the hype is. Honestly, Bad Guys is a series I just can’t really get into. It has some cute, funny moments — the entire premise of these “bad, scary” animals attempting to become “good guys” is admittedly a very charming idea, especially given how bad they are at it — but it really is just so simple and so short that it feels pretty cheap. There isn’t much content on any given page, and the art is all pretty rough. I will leave this in the purvey of young readers.
Tumblr media
Clown in a Cornfield
Meh. I picked it up from the library on an impulse because I enjoy horror based around cornfields and it feels very autumnal, but I couldn’t get through it. It is so very, painfully, agonizingly high school. I may have enjoyed it as a high school student… but even then it’s a sort of high school culture I wasn’t involved in even as a teen. Maybe it would have gotten more interesting if I had toughed out the first bit but it was really just too excruciating.
Tumblr media
Dark Waters
The third book in a middle grade horror series, I’ve been reading one book a year, around Halloween. This series is about a group of friends who, having survived a first and second encounter with “The Smiling Man” are now trying to deal with the trauma of their experiences while keeping their family safe and distant from the terror. A fishing trip seems like a perfect, safe way to get away from the constant anxiety of their lives… until they receive a dire warning and something sinister starts to appear in the lake water.
Tumblr media
The Girl From Turtle Mountain
Written in the style of American Girl books, this is a story about a girl in 1901 moving to the mountains of southern Alberta with her miner father. It was a charming little book about her getting used to this new settlement, getting to know the people she will share a boarding house and school with, and finding out how much a girl can spread her wings in a place like this. It was a short, simple book but it did remind me rather fondly of Anne of Green Gables.
Tumblr media
Judy Moody was in a mood. Not a good mood. A bad mood.
I had never read a Judy Moody book before and honestly have always been a little scornful of them. I mentally put them in the same category as Junie B Jones books but apparently I was wrong to do so! It was honestly a very funny little slice of life book about Judy as she goes through life and needs to combat her bad mood.
Tumblr media
The Laughing Corpse
Hoo boy. I haven’t read the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter books since high school, and I enjoyed them well enough back then. I read about six, though I found the style and tone had begun to wear on me by then. Since it’s October, I thought a vampire hunting book would be a fun reread so I grabbed the audiobook from the library and yikes folks! The racism! The misogyny! The aggressive Christianity and intolerance towards any other religion! It was fucking brutal! Though the nail in the coffin was Jean Claude. His fake French accent was hard enough to read through text, but needing to listen to a very American accent then try to voice him? Nope, I couldn’t do it, I bailed. Nice to know I can lay this particular book series to rest.
Tumblr media
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
I had never read Sleepy Hollow before and decided now was the time! I hadn’t realized what a short little story it was, but it made for a perfect Halloween read. The visuals were absolutely stunning, I am such a sucker for that sort of descriptive language, and it was actually really funny which I hadn’t been expecting! Honestly pop culture has changed the nature of the Headless Horseman so much over the years that I was pleasantly surprised by the original story!
Tumblr media
My Dress-Up Darling v3
Just a fun series I’ve been picking up from time to time. It’s about a boy who is passionate about making traditional dolls and is learning the craft from his grandfather, who ends up befriending a bubbly popular girl who has the secret desire to cosplay. They end up working together to create elaborate costumes. It’s honestly just a very charming series, both main characters are very likeable, it has enough technical information about costuming to keep you interested, and just a light sprinkling of fan-service — y’know, if pantyshots are what sells a series for you.
Tumblr media
Spy x Family v1
Up until now I’ve been profoundly indifferent to Spy x Family. I haven’t liked the art style, especially how the little girl is done, but I found the first book second hand and figured, eh, why not. And I can admit I judged it too harshly, the first book was pretty fun. It’s about a spy who needs a family for his next undercover mission, who ends up marrying an assassin and adopting a telepath. The spy and the assassin are both doing their best to keep their professions a secret, and the only one who seems to know the fully picture is the telepathic child. It’s silly but amusing.
Tumblr media
Guys Read: Terrifying Tales
A surprisingly well done horror anthology! It’s written for a middle grade audience, but was honestly the best horror I’ve read in a hot minute. Some stories were better than others, obviously, but there really weren’t any that I thought were complete duds. What I found the most interesting was that most of the stories had a supernatural / almost fairytale like bend to it, and I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen people really do fairytales in a way that made the horror feel authentic rather than childish. This book had some genuinely fantastic “wicked witch” style horror, I was very happily surprised.
Tumblr media
TGCF // Heaven Official’s Blessing v2
Now that I’ve finished Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation / MDZS I am now working my way through the Heaven Official’s Blessing series! This series is about a prince who was able to ascend to godhood… only to be banished back down to the mortal world and seems to be plagued with preternaturally bad luck and suffering. The stories starts just after his third ascension to heaven (after being banished on two separate occasions), which is honestly a hilarious concept. The first book I found a little slow, I wasn’t connecting with the characters much, but by now I am fully invested! The second book was fun because it actually took us back in time to learn about Xie Lian’s time as a mortal and some of the events that surrounded his ascension to godhood and what turned him from a beloved god to an object of scorn. It’s fascinating and heartbreaking, I want to cry for this poor guy, he really was wearing himself ragged trying to do the best he could.

'its been a while bud,' you might be saying, 'whereve you been?'
Doing stuff. My life is busy as all hell lately, but hey at least i got a free neon yellow fitbit out of the deal. Ironically, yellow is one of my favourite colours and also one of the 2 (two) colours that i can't really see. Yes, I have tritanomaly. No, I don't understand how those two things can both be true, either.
Anyways it's Christmas in May, dear 4 followers that love these posts, so let's crack open a cold one for the boys and get right into it.
S2e4, Coach Santa:
-- why is Colin wearing a turkey hat? I thought that was an American Thanksgiving thing? (Edit: apparently people eat turkey on Xmas. I grew up so decolonized i asked my mom once why my friend Baz wore a t necklace when his name started with a B. Turns out it was a cross. All I know of Xmas comes from Santa depictions and Christmas themed tv show episodes lmao)
-- Isaac's Santa outfit is fucking Iconic
-- Keeley and the Diamond Dogs is such an underrated dynamic i love them so much
-- the immediate teamwork to put together the gift for Jamie is a cute little moment 🥰
-- the title callback to the weird claymation short thing is also a nice touch. Can you tell i love Xmas episodes bc i do. I'm also Jewish lol. And I love irony.
-- I keep forgetting Roy's sister is a surgeon. Also Sexy December 28th is hilarious, i really hope they stuck with it
-- what in the world is the Higgins kid doing with a surfboard in England???
-- the fact that nobody used to show up for Higgins Christmases until Ted showed up 🥰
-- the fact that Henry got his dad a dartboard, Ted's favourite thing to do with his own dad when he was Henry's age, hurts my heart
-- Everyone is wearing shoes indoors. Is that like. An English thing? Ted is too, is that also an American thing? I am. Horrified
-- 'this one is pre-cheekied' I love u Dani
-- Richard is like The French Stereotype and I love that for him lol
-- Roy is lactose intolerant and ate so much ice cream he shit his pants? Relatable king. Also his birthday was three weeks before christmas, making him a Sagittarius, for those so inclined to know
-- Dani and Zoreaux acting like they're gonna die in the trenches over a nerd gun war are such fucking nerds
-- how long, do y'all think, has Rebecca been doing this? I'd like to think it was a sneaky little tradition she hid from Rupert for years
-- 'theres two white people at the door and they're smiling' you go babe tell it like it is
-- look i get Keeley has long nails but pressing a doorbell with your whole palm is unhinged behaviour
-- 'let me fix my knee' *just fucking punches it into place* gotta say, Roy's getting more relatable by the minute. I too have fixed my janky knee by simply shoving it back into place
-- Keeley is wearing a crop top in December. Gotta love the commitment. Also Ussie guy has such long hair now wtf
-- gotta say i completely forgot Christmas Poppers were a thing. That's uh. Not what immediately comes to mind when someone uses the word poppers around me but hey that's just me
-- i forgot we so often get answers to our questions in this show. Rebecca has been doing this for years. I love when I'm right
-- Ted's 'right I'm the one with the accent here'... Ive lost track of how many times I've had that exact thought lmao
-- Love Actually! Good movie, love that Roy thought of that
-- Ted thinks singing is just talking an octave lower. Not surprising but funny nonetheless. And before you say it, yes i understand that was Jason Sudekis' solution to trying to sing in a different accent so he doesn't sound like Jason Sudekis but also. Adorable.

y'all i started watching three pines and i just. is this what it's like for americans or brits??? just casually seeing places you know or people with the same mannerisms/habits as you??? it was so freaking neat hearing montreal referenced the way london or nyc are
my silly little linguist heart was Losing It ™ at the accents jesus. like they really nailed all the specific little dialect quirks of anglophone quebecers/francophones speaking english. and it was so natural the way people switched between languages, it really felt like it was an intuitive thing and not something written into a script.
HOWEVER. (here there be spoilers) what the actual H*CK was up with fucking cc. like absolutely no shade to the actor she was amazing and actually terrifying for the few minutes she was on screen but her accent was so confusing. like the first time she was on screen i figured she was an anglophone speaking french because her boyfriend was francophone which like yep, normal, checks out. then she goes home to her family. also anglophone. no issues yet. but then they start speaking french to her as if it was HER mother tongue???? then way after gamache finds out she was passing herself of as french but she was actually from the townships. which would make perfect sense except that Everybody She Ever Spoke To would immediately know she isn't french from france?
i promise the show was so good though this was my only problem with it and it was really just funny, it wasn't big or distracting or anything. i honestly just love complaining. i really suggest watching it, especially if you're keen on supporting indigenous actors/directors!! i find the indigenous rep itself inside the show is super good and nuanced too, though i'm not indigenous myself so feel free to correct me if i'm way off on this one
