Wella’s largest event, the 16th International Trend Vision Award was held in Lisbon this weekend. The final part of the year long competition, 76 participants from 43 countries arrived in Lisbon, but this year Wella has reinvented the traditional competition to an event that is about mentoring the talent, networking with the elite of hairdressing and recognition. This is completely different and a massive step change to supporting talent around the world.
My weekend started on the Friday for a media day sharing ghd Platinum and a little secret brand new ghd Oracle. Oracle is that new we don’t even have a launch date! We created quite a stir and the press loved it. I’ll give you a little sneak peak below…
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Oracle is a unique curler that allows you to have creativity and able to create multiple looks with one tool. This is the first styling product to crash cool the hair using curl Zone technology. All will be revealed next year!
The venue was one of the most traditional palaces in Xabregas, belonging to he Marquises of Olhão, the Counts of Castro Marim. The rooms were breath taking with gorgeous painting and wonderful tiles.
The day started with an introduction to the new innovations from Wella, Koleston Perfect with ME +, Seb Man, Hair colour DJ, this is a very exciting bespoke colour hair mask where you can pick the fragrance, strength and tone of the mask with 50 billion colour possibilities. For the last 130 years colour has remained with the same colour molecules which are the primary reason for allergies, the new koleston with ME + will eliminate these issues , they have also introduced their new colour addition from ILLUMINA – Opal Essence Colour in 5 warm/cool shades with shimmering light reflections giving a mother of pearl finish.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
For the rest of the weekend I was at #mycreativeretreat at another amazing venue Patio De Gale. This is where all the winners from around the world had the one to one mentoring and workshops by 16 of the industries Icons including ghd’s Zoe Irwin. The 2  & 1/2 day retreat was hosted by the legend Patrick Cameron. This shift in event style allowed Wella to celebrate the stylists and really allow them to grow. This is now more than a competition, it allows Wella to take Creative Excellence to the next level giving each stylist a unique and personal experience that will be life changing.  The contestants were split into teams with their own mentors which was the a fabulous list of who’s who in the colour and styling world.

Team 1 – Abby Smith & Dmitry Vinokurov (+ gifted mentor Nico Diaz)
Team 2 – Sonya Dove & Akin Konizi (+ gifted mentor Marta DelaPena)

EASTBOURNE, England | Murray beats Wawrinka in 2nd comeback match

EASTBOURNE, England | Murray beats Wawrinka in 2nd comeback match
EASTBOURNE, England (AP) — Andy Murray beat Stan Wawrinka 6-1, 6-3 at the Eastbourne International on Monday in the second match of his comeback from long-term hip problems.
Murray returned last week at the Queen’s Club after 11 months out and lost to Nick Kyrgios in the first round.
Wawrinka’s erratic serve proved his downfall as, although he hit eight aces, he double-faulted four times, including on match point.
The Swiss player has also missed much of the past year through injury, including three months before his latest return last month.
Murray’s last success came in the fourth round of Wimbledon on July 10, 2017, when he was No. 1.
“I thought the first set I played well, second set was a little bit patchy at times, a bit nervous towards the end.
“When you’ve not played for the best part of a year, closing out the match against someone like Stan, who I’ve had lots of great matches with — tough, tough guy to play against — was tough. But delighted to get the win.”
Murray, who had an operation on his hip in January, will be hoping for a few more wins at Eastbourne before the start of his bid to win a third Wimbledon.
He next faces second-seeded Kyle Edmund, who overtook him as the British No. 1 while he was injured.
Another Briton is also through to the second round, after Jay Clarke beat Ryan Harrison of the United States 6-4, 6-1.
It was the teenager’s first ATP Tour win and his first victory over a player in the top 100. Harrison is ranked 58th.
Sixth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain also eased past Matteo Berrettini of Italy 7-5, 6-3.
Other winners included Jared Donaldson of the U.S., John Millman of Australia, and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.
In the women’s draw, defending champion Karolina Pliskova survived a scare to beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and reach the third round.
Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, last year’s runner-up, had an easier passage as she beat Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-2.
Pliskova had never lost a set to Pavlyuchenkova in five previous meetings but the Czech player struggled in the second set before prevailing 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
The second-seeded Pliskova hit nine aces in the first set and seemed on her way to another comfortable victory.
However, Pavlyuchenkova broke immediately in the second set and, although the Russian was broken back, she broke Pliskova’s serve again and two successive errors from her opponent saw her level on sets.
But there was to be no upset as Pliskova broke in the third game of the third set and, after saving a break point in the next game, she never looked back.
Pliskova broke again in the final game, sealing the match when Pavlyuchenkova hit the ball long.
Giorgi won the first two games against Wozniacki but that was to prove a false dawn for the Italian as three successive double faults appeared to shake her confidence and she lost the next six games and the first set, which Wozniacki sealed with a delightful shot down the line.
Wozniacki broke Giorgi at the start of the second set and the Danish player looked in impervious form as she stormed on to take the match, winning when Giorgi hit a forehand into the net.
Former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska was one of a number playing first-round matches and the Polish player beat Timea Babos 6-3, 6-1.
Kristina Mladenovic of France beat local hope Heather Watson 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-3.

Venus Williams, Simona Halep make BNP Paribas Open quarterfinals; Amanda Anisimova's run ends

Venus Williams, Simona Halep make BNP Paribas Open quarterfinals; Amanda Anisimova's run ends
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Venus Williams defeated Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 7-6 (8), 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday as the oldest woman in the draw.
The 37-year-old American was coming off a straight-set victory over younger sister Serena a night earlier, ending a three-match skid against her sibling.
“It was a quick turnaround from last night when it feels like, ‘Hey, this is a final’ to ‘You’re only in the fourth round,'” Williams said on court.
Playing under cloudy skies in 80-degree heat, Williams had her hands full with Sevastova, who used drop shots, top spin, lobs and jerked her 10-years-older opponent side to side.
“There were some points where she just played and it was too good,” Williams said. “I thought I was in control of the point and winning the point, and she turned it around. It’s just real talent.”
After early losses in her first two tournaments of the year, Williams hasn’t dropped a set at Indian Wells, where she has yet to reach the final in six previous appearances.
Awaiting Williams in the quarterfinals is 27th-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain, who beat American wild card Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-4.
Simona Halep of Romania is on track to retain her No. 1 world ranking after defeating Wang Qiang of China 7-5, 6-1 in the fourth round.
Halep is the only former Indian Wells winner left in the women’s draw after No. 20 Daria Kasatkina upset No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 7-5. The Dane blew a 3-0 lead in the first set and was on the run most of the match before losing for the second time this year to the 20-year-old Russian.
“She outsmarted me,” Wozniacki said.
By reaching the quarterfinals, Kasatkina is projected to surpass her career-best ranking of 17th. She has beaten all four current Grand Slam titleholders in the past year, including U.S. Open winner Sloane Stephens in straight sets this week.
“I’m playing best matches against the best players,” Kasatkina said. “But as I say, if you want to be on the top, you have to beat the top players. So quite simple rule.”
Halep improved to 17-1 this year and needs only to reach the final to stay at the top.
Next up for Halep is Petra Martic of Croatia, who beat Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-6 (4).
American teenager Amanda Anisimova’s run of success ended in a 6-1, 7-6 (2) loss to No. 5 seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic.
Anisimova, a 16-year-old wild card, won her first three WTA Tour matches at Indian Wells, beating Pauline Parmentier, No. 23 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova without dropping a set.
“She’s 16, so she’s not scared,” Pliskova said of Anisimova. “You can see she’s hitting the ball without thinking. But everybody is playing like this when they are 16. I think this will change a little bit in the future, but for sure the game is good and not really any weakness. I think everything is pretty solid.”
Pliskova faces a quarterfinal against Japan’s Naomi Osaka, who beat Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.
Halep attended Venus Williams’ straight-set victory over 36-year-old sister and new mother Serena on Monday night.
“I love the way that they are motivated and they are still playing at this age, Serena with the kid,” Halep said. “It’s a great thing what they do for sport, and it’s great that tennis has them. I have many things to learn from them. That’s why I’m trying just to go in to watch every time I can.”
On the men’s side, Gael Monfils retired in the second set with a back injury while trailing fellow Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2, 3-1.
Monfils used an eight-minute injury timeout in the second set to get his back worked on before returning to the court and getting broken in fourth game. He then walked to the net and ended the match.
Herbert moved on to a fourth-round matchup with Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, who upset No. 2 seed Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-4, 6-4.
Cilic won 19 of 23 points on his first serve but failed to convert four break points against 31st-seeded Kohlschreiber, who snapped a 12-match skid against top-10 opponents.
Herbert remains in contention for the $1 million bonus offered to a player who sweeps the singles and doubles titles.
No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina defeated No. 29 David Ferrer of Spain 6-4, 7-6 (3) for the fifth straight time.
With Cilic, Ferrer, Novak Djokovic, Monfils and John Isner all eliminated from his quarter of the draw, things are looking wide open for del Potro, the 2009 U.S. Open champion. Top-ranked Roger Federer of Switzerland and del Potro are the highest seeds remaining.
“I’m not thinking about that. I just want to keep winning,” del Potro said. “Still far away from the final, but of course, any chance to play with Roger would be great.”
Del Potro’s countryman, Leonardo Mayer, beat Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel 6-4, 6-1. Mayer next plays del Potro.
No. 18 Sam Querrey rallied past Indian qualifier Yuki Bhambri 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-4 and will play No. 28 Feliciano Lopez of Spain. Lopez spoiled a potential all-American quarterfinal by beating No. 8 Jack Sock 7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-4.
No. 32 Milos Raonic of Canada defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 and will meet Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, who beat lucky loser Dudi Sela of Israel 7-6 (7), 6-4.

Wimbledon results 2017: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer catch big breaks on Day 2
Djokovic and Federer benefited from retirements from their first-round opponents, and made it through to the second round as easily as possible.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic spent a combined 82 minutes on the grass courts of Wimbledon for their opening matches on Tuesday. Both players advanced to the second round as their opponents retired, and both will be among the freshest players going forward.
For Federer, his opponent was Alexandr Dolgopolov, who trailed by a set and by three games in the second set when he retired with an ankle injury. Djokovic was up a set and change on Martin Klizan, who retired with a leg injury, ending his bid.
Djokovic and Federer are the second and third seeds, respectively. Djokovic has struggled this year though, and many have suggested he’s lost what made him so dominant not that long ago. Federer skipped the clay court season to be fresh for Wimbledon, and now he’s got even more rest.
Women’s top seed Angelique Kerber breezed through her opener, Irina Falconi, 6-4, 6-4. Kerber was bounced in the first round of the French Open and has had similar struggles to Djokovic this year. But she looked great on Tuesday and will move on to the second round.
The women’s field is without Serena Williams, and with Kerber’s struggles, it is likely wide open once again. The French Open was wide open, as evidenced by the fact that an unseeded Jelena Ostapenko managed to secure the title.
Karolina Pliskova, the third seed, is one of the women vying for the title and she looked great on Tuesday, downing Evgeniya Rodina in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Agnieszka Radwanska, the ninth seed, bested Jelena Jankovic in straight sets, 7-6(3), 6-0. On the men’s side, sixth seed Milo Raonic took down Jan-Lennard Struff in his opener, 7-6(5), 6-2, 7-6(4).
Below are results for singles matches involving seeded competition at the time of writing. Full results once matches are complete can be found for the men’s bracket here and the women’s bracket here.
