In Digimon Frontier, Lanamon was known as Ranamon. It was born from the itemised spirit of AncientMermaimon. It could use the Beast Spirit of Water to Spirit Evolve into Calmaramon.

@fishyfishyfishtimes, I noticed you like mermaids and enjoyed my fish Digimon post, so you may be interested in mermaid Digimon.

The OG is Mermaimon and I really like that she's (I'm saying she but whether or not Digimon have genders depends on which setting is being used) also a pirate. The lore says she uses her beautiful singing voice to lure people in and rob them. She also carries an anchor as a weapon and is not afraid to give someone a thrashing.

Mermaimon is the OG mermaid in the sense that she debuted first, but in lore the OG is AncientMermaimon. She is one of the Warrior 10, a group of ancient Digimon from the beginning of the Digital World. The Warrior 10 are dead, having long ago died to stop Lucemon (as in Lucifer) from destroying the Digital World. While the Warrior 10 are long dead, their data went onto spawn many species of other Digimon. AncientMermaimon specifically is the ancestor of all aquatic Digimon. She was effectively a goddess of the sea, able to control the weather and with enough power to sink entire islands. While I like the original Mermaimon's design more for its pirate theme, AncientMermaimon also has a great design.

The only merman in Digimon is Neptunemon. As the name suggests, he is based on the Neptune, roman god of the sea. He is also part of a group, the Olympos XII, who are also based on the Olympian gods. They collectively rule a portion of the Digital World that is on a private server called Iliad. He is the absolute ruler of the oceans on the Iliad server. I really like his samurai-inspired armor and the trident made of shark heads.

While that's all the proper mermaids, I have some honorable mentions in that they still fill the aquatic creature/girl archetype. The first is Ranamon, who has a direct connection to AncientMermaimon from above. In the anime Digimon Frontier, which introduced the Warrior 10, it is established that their spirits, each representative of an element, survived their death and can be taken up and used by others. While half the spirits are taken by the heroes, the other half are corrupted into evil. The good spirits are fire, light, ice, wind, and thunder while the corrupted spirits are steel, water, wood, earth, and darkness (later redeemed). Ranamon and her evolution are the corrupted spirit of water. The only spirit that we saw both the pure and corrupted versions of was darkness and I think that's a big missed opportunity. Ranamon is easily my favorite of the spirits, which is largely due to the english dub making her a classic mean girl with a southern accent. Her name comes from the Spanish word for frog.

Ranamon's evolution is Calamaramon, who is deliberately designed to be a darker version of a mermaid. Instead of a fish tail, she has an entire upside-down squid for a lower body. She's also supposed to be a sea witch and has a major temper. Oddly enough, she's one of the only spirt Digimon from Frontier that has shown up in other series. In the Digimon Adventure reboot she shows up as a major threat and in Digimon Ghost Game she's a monster of the week that's only a villain due to a misunderstanding. In approve given her role in Frontier basically boiled down to a joke about her being uglier than Ranamon.

Last of the honorable mentions is the entire Jellymon evolution line: Jellymon to TeslaJellymon to Thetismon, to Amphimon. They're pretty recent recent Digimon, having been designed for the most recent anime, Digimon Ghost Game, where she's one of the main characters. She is also easily the biggest little shit in the franchise. I really like the jellyfish meets human design of the line. I also suspect Amphimon wearing a full-body dive suit is a deliberate subversion of the trend of feminine Digimon having sexy designs.

I had no recollection of KarnEX doing evolutions for the reliability armors and that's because I already covered every digimental he did so far. So we're in uncharted territory now and I'll have to compare notes when he does release more videos in the series.

Armadimon/Submarimon evolves into Gusokumon and Aegisdramon. I was saving Aegisdramon for this specifically. I don't *love* Gusokumon here, but there's no perfect level aquatic vehicle digimon I can think of and it's an armored thing that fires torpedoes. It also canonically evolves from Submarimon and Ankylomon, and it's got big claws and a shell like Armadimon. They're even in the same pose there.

V-mon/Depthmon evolves into Divemon and Surfimon. I knew I wanted Surfimon for this because it's got the Main Character vibe and it's blue with a white mouth. I originally had Hangyomon as the perfect level which does mesh with Depthmon being deep sea diving themed, but Divemon has the same vibe I mentioned as it's a Pulsemon evo and therefore is a protagonist partner. Plus, it has a similar silhouette as Depthmon when its legs are turned into a tail.

Hawkmon/Orcamon evolves into Whamon and Plesiomon. I'm not as sure about this one, there aren't exactly too many options for cetaceans. Marine animals in general get a little tight when you exclude fish, squid people, and the Seadramon family. At least Plesiomon has flippers.

Patamon/Mantaraymon evolves into MarinDevimon and Neptunemon. I knew I wanted this to end on Neptunemon because it's the water god and Patamon tends to turn into religious beings. I struggled with the perfect level until I threw darts at the board and remembered manta rays are also called devilfish. Putting MarinDevimon next to Mantaraymon, I also realized Mantaraymon's tail ends in a spade like MarinDevimon's tentacles. And then I realized it matched how I had already made Tylomon evolve into Calamaramon.

Tailmon/Tylomon evolves into Calamaramon and AncientMermaidmon. It had to evolve into AncientMermaimon to match Neptunemon, I knew this right off the bat. But what to put between them as the perfect? I originally defaulted to Mermaimon, but...well, honestly, I forgot why I changed it to Calamaramon, but it worked out when I was struggling with Patamon and noticed I had squid people as both of their perfect levels.

Wormmon/Archelomon evolves into Anomalocarimon X-Antibody and JumboGamemon. Much like before, I already had the ultimate in mind: JumboGamemon, a turtle. There are no perfect level turtles, the closest being JumboGamemon's canon pre-evo Shawujinmon which is a kappa. I thought about Zudomon as it's wearing Archelomon's shell, but I settled on Anomalocarimon X-Antibody because it has a similar color palette to the rest of the line and it's got blades and spikes sticking out of it like Archelomon. It's definitely an idea with merit.

Because it’s been awhile since I posted about the digitwst AU.

I’ve mentioned a few times before about this AU’s version of the Great Seven, and so, here’s most of them!

The Great Seven act as both a fill-in for the G7, but also the overblot victims/housewardens. (They still exist, but they’re not involved with really any of the digital world stuff)

Queen Rosemon- stand in for the QoH and Riddle. I could have made this QueenChessmon instead, but I figured Rosemon was better for a Riddle allegory

King BanchoLeomon- Stand in for the KoB/Scar and Leona. It had to be a leomon mega for this pick, and BanchoLeomon was the best pick out of all of them. I’ll probably change his design in-story and just call him BanchoLeomon 2023 or smth

Mistress AncientMermaimon- Stand in for the Sea Witch/Ursula and Azul. It was really just between her and Neptunemon, and while I like Neptunemon more in the general lineup, as a reference to Ursula I wanted her to be fem presenting, so yea, AncientMermaimon

Liege GraceNovamon- Stand in for the SotS/Jafar and Jamil. Though, in reality it’s more meant to be a reference to Kalim and Jamil and how toxically codependent they are on one another. Also known as Lord Apollomon and Lady Dianamon

Queen Lilithmon- Stand in for the Fairest Queen and Vil, I feel like this one is sort of an obvious pick? The only thing that’s really wrong with this pick is the “lust” aspect of her, but it could be rewritten into that “lust as in greed” type thing, Y’know? Oh well

Lord Plutomon- Stand in for the KotU/Hades and Idia. Once again, obvious pick

[ ]- stand in for the Thorn Fairy/Maleficent and Malleus. I still have not come up with a good pick for this one… the best I can think of is maybe Ceresmon because of the plant connection? Maybe BloomLordmon? Maybe even Lotusmon? I don’t know. If anyone could give me suggestions it’d be appreciated!

Wow, those are some nice lines! The lines relate to water and it perfectly fits them!

I'm not sure if I want to give a Daddy a Digimon partner because that would mean I would have to give Father a partner. Also, the partners I have to give to Sector Z may be different than the Little Traitor Dudes but I like the idea of the Negaverse counterparts having different partners.

But other than that, the lines are great! Thank you for the idea!

So in my Digi AU, the overall story is split into three volumes: Ancient, Past and Present.

Ancient This volume covers the Human World's first recorded contact with the Digital World (it's implied that the two worlds had made contact before in the past, but it's unclear as to who, where, when and how it happened). It's about a team of young researchers who stumbled upon the Digital World by chance, and began a years-long investigation on this mysterious new reality. However, a few years later, they eventually got caught in the crossfires of the fierce war between Huanglongmon and Lucemon over the throne of the Digital Emperor, resulting in the brutal death of one of their own. With the help of their Digimon partners, the remaining ten started a crusade to bring an end to the war and stop Lucemon's destructive rebellion.

"Ancient" takes place approximately 28 human years (est. 5000 Digital years) before the events of "Present".

Past This volume is a direct sequel to "Ancient", taking place roughly 13 years after the conclusion of the previous volume. Set in an alternate Tokyo-esque city in the late 2000s, technology has improved drastically, and with the rapid advancement of technology holograms have become much more widespread and common. However, there came rumours of holograms malfunctioning and acting erratically, terrorising anyone unfortunate to be in its reach... as if possessed.

One such teenager, Orion, was among the most recent victims of a Hologram Ghost attack... and they would've lost their life if they had not stumbled upon one of their mother's belongings: a Digivice resembling a smartwatch, during the chase. And by synchronising themself with the Digivice, they inadvertently became partnered to an energetic Gammamon and a grumpy Cepheimon, leading them down on a wild adventure beyond their imagination...

Unlike in the "Ancient" volume, the main antagonist is a fanatical cult who worship Digimon as their god known as the "Apostles of Meteor". They believe in a prophecy predicting that the two worlds would collide and merge with the arrival of a calamitous meteor, and they seek to make it come true at any cost. And to aid them in their crusade, they infused the X-Antibody into their partner Digimon to empower them, believing it to be the "blessings" of their gods. They were eventually defeated and apprehended, while the few who defected to Orion's side were integrated into their group that would eventually form a diplomatic organisation which aimed to foster peaceful relations between the Human and Digital Worlds.

However, they mysteriously vanished without a trace in the aftermath of a global disaster known as the "Digital Fallout", which left Orion's hometown in ruins and abandoned by its surviving inhabitants as it was said to be the disaster's epicentre.

Main Tamers Orion (OC) - Gammamon & Cepheimon

Present The "Present" volume takes place in the early 2020s, in a shining bustling city known as Aevium City (which is also one of the few cities around that remain firmly pro-Digimon following the Digital Fallout, making itself known as a popular spot for Tamers). The story centres around a teenage girl named Artemis and her partner Dorumon, who was moving in to start a new life with her adoptive mother Nancy and her partner Renamon.

But it doesn't take long before she realises that Aevium is not what it appears to be, as she and her new friends quickly became entangled with the Xen Syndicate, their conflicts ultimately leading them into the Digital World where they each discover dark secrets - some were dark family secrets, others the truth about their identities and the truth behind the cause of the Digital Fallout. One such secret, however, ties the ancient past to the present, and it's now up to them to finally put the restless ghosts of the past to rest.
