“It’s the same fucking thing all the time with you,” you complained. 

You didn’t know how you landed yourself in this again. When you agreed to date Steve for the first

time many months ago, he promised that you had nothing to worry about; that he was loyal to you and that you will both work on communication.

“And it’s the same shit with you. You’re always fucking—complaining about things that I can’t control,” he replied, swerving away from the trashbin that he almost hit. “Fuck!”

It was just some party, some stupid party that you both agreed to go to. Well, Steve wanted to go because his friends will be there. Robin, Eddie, and Nancy. The thing was, Nancy didn’t do anything. She just needed a friend because Jonathan had been dodgy and Steve was there. In fact, you love Nancy but Steve and her together in the bedroom of Phil Newton’s house? Not so much.

The worst part is, Steve had no plans to tell you. It wasn’t until you asked Robin where your boyfriend was that she answered, “I’m not supposed to tell you this so, please don’t tell Steve. He’s in Phil’s bedroom with Nancy.”

God, it filled you with dread. Worst case scenario—Nancy and Steve were fucking after professing that they still have feelings for each other.  But still, Steve promised. Right? So, you went upstairs and knocked on the door multiple times. Steve opened it with guilt written all over his face. Guilt dissolves into annoyance and you braced yourself.

“What,” he asked, his face tight. He was annoyed with Robin, really. She was the only one who knew where he was. He needed to comfort Nancy because Jonathan isn’t coming back to Hawkins for the break. You were taken aback by his snarky attitude.

“I, is everything okay?”

“Yeah. Do you need anything?”

“Can we go home?” you asked. You hated tonight. You didn’t want to come here and Eddie left you for Nancy as soon as she areived with Robin. You were left to drink some lukewarm punch by the sofa. You saw Eddie but he was too busy dealing and you didn’t want to be a bother.

“Sure. Here are the keys. Go start the car and I’ll be down in ten minutes,” he replied, giving you the key before closing the door again.

You stood there, dumbfounded before stomping your way to his car. You would’ve left but you didn’t know where you were. Phil lived in the outskirts of Hawkins and Steve was supposed to be your ride. You slammed the door of Steve’s BMW when Eddie

“I can hear you stomping from the pool,” Eddie teased, leaning on the passenger window. “What’s wrong?”

“Steve is wrong,” you frowned. “He dragged me all the way here and ditched me as soon as he found Nancy. They’re upstairs,”

“Damn,” Eddie replied. Even he couldn’t provide comforting words. “Well, you’re with me. Super cool, super nice me,”

“Didn’t you sell me double the price when we first met?” you asked. True but it was an old gag that you shared with him. “I still haven’t received my rebates,”

“I give you enough free stuff, sweets. I should be the one getting rebates. I’m thinking of milkshakes,” he said, eyes widening. “I could just taste it! Oh, chocolate milkshake and because you’re so nice, burgers. I’ll pick you up tomorrow,”

“Eddie! I didn’t agree—“

“Yeah, yeah but you owe me.” he replied. “Also, did you know? I went to Lover's Lake the other day, right? Guess who I saw fucking in the woods. That

cheerleader with blonde hair and that kid from English? The one that reads loudly to himself,”

“No way,”

“Yes, way. I saw them! With my own eyes!” he exclaimed, making you chuckle loudly. Steve was frowning from behind Eddie. You looked so miserable when you talked to him earlier and now that you’re with Eddie you’re fucking laughing? Steve watched your smile fade away as he neared, his frown deepening. Eddie looked back, and whistled. “Hey, Steve,”

“Munson,” Steve replied. “Girlfriend and I are leaving,”

“Oh,” Eddie replied, nodding. He looks at you and mouths “scary”, making you laugh and Eddie leaves, jogging back to the pool for business.

That was how you found yourself in this situation, eyes and knees away from Steve, watching the dark trees blur at the speed of his car.

“Can’t control? I told you that your relationship with Nancy is bothering me and I find you alone in a room together?” you asked.

“It’s not like I can just say ‘Sorry, Nance. My girlfriend is so jealous of you, she doesn’t want us spending time together. Or should I?” Steve asked, venom dripping in his voice. “It’s the same shit with you and Eddie,”

“No, it isn’t. Eddie and I are friends. You weren’t there when everyone knows you were with Nancy in Phil’s fucking bedroom. Everyone except for me!” you replied, your voice raising in volume. “Same fucking shit, Steve. Same shit and I’m so tired of fighting.”

“You shouldn’t have come to the party, then,” he mutters and you pause, counting to ten to calm yourself down.

“It was you who wanted me there, remember? I didn’t want to attend that party but you dragged me. You ditched me the moment Nancy arrived. Do you remember? I don’t…I’m nit even sure if I want to be in the same soace with you right now.” you heaved, tears springing up your eyes. Steve could only hear how you didn’t want to be with him. Slowing down some street, you looked at him in confusion. You just really wanted to go home.

“Get the fuck out,” he mutters, looking at anywhere but you.

“Wh-what?”

“Get the fuck out,” he repeated. “You don’t want to be with me right? So get out.”

You stilled, looking at your surroundings. There was nothing but harrowing trees and a lone light. You nodded, rushing out of the door and watching as Steve sped away from you. When he was far enough, you let your shoulders deflate and sobbed. Where did it all go wrong? Steve was never like this with anyone. Why did he…dislike you so much? You walked back to the party, trying to remember the way.

It was so dark and Steve knew how much you hated walking in it. You didn’t know where you were and Steve knew how much you hated being lost. There were no sounds but the creek and the hooting of the owls and Steve knew how much you hated the silence.

Wrapping your arms to protect you from the darkness and the silence, you walked. You were rushing back because you didn’t know where you were and you were scared; so fucking scared of the night. You’ve been walking for how many minutes now and you could’ve called but there were no payphones anywhere. It was just the occasional street lamp and nothing else. Would you even risk hitching a ride if a car passes by?

“Fuck!” you cried, sobbing uncontrollably when your arm hung itself on some stray wire by the abandoned bus stop. The sting rips through your whole body, limping until the trees looked somewhat familiar.

Soon, you followed the loud bass of the speakers. Kids your age spilled out of the house and you followed from where they came from. The party. You were back from where you started. You shuddered, hoping to God that Eddie was there. Or maybe Robin. Fuck, Nancy, if she was the last resort. You just really wanted to go home.

It was Robin and Eddie who found you by the door. Apparently, there was some chick by the pool who was crying to herself. Descriptions matched what you wore that night and how you looked; there was no other choice than to rush to you. Sure enough, when they ran to the pool, you were there siyting by the edge. Black tears ran down your face, a scowl settled on your lips as you shielded yourself away from the world. Robin noticed the red on your arm, rushing towards your hunched figure.

Eddie was hot on her tails, hiding you under  his arms to quiet you down. They led you to Eddie’s van without any words; what should be explained anyway? Isn’t it enough? Your friends looked at each other while your body shook with sadness and frustration.

“S-sorry,” you managed, and you felt Eddie’s grim on your shoulder tighten.

“It’s okay,” Robin replied, opening the door for you. You curled into her when they were settled, Eddie starting his van to drive you back home.

“What happened?” Robin asked. Eddie’s eyes snapped towards you and she was about to say sorry when you replied.

“Steve told me to get out of his car in the middle of nowhere and left me,” you managed between sobs. Their hearts broke. You looked so small and forlorn; so defeated and empty. “I just wanted to go home. I don’t even want to anymore because he might be there.”

“It’s okay. We can go back to the trailer. You can share the bed with Robin and I’ll sleep on the couch.” Eddie assured before driving the trailer park with a crying girl on the passenger seat.

Firstly, I wanted to say thank you for being one of the loudest voices of reason of this godforsaken fandom.

Secondly… Can I also share my complains? I feel like I’ll die if I won’t talk about it.

I feel like you probably talked about it before, but still these whole “Eddie being the only person in entire group who understands him” trop started a new era of fics where Steve is almost literally hated by Dustin & the party, no one (from Dustin to Hopper) supports him (except for Eddie, of course. Look at out knight in shining armor) and even Robin (EVEN ROBIN GODDAMNIT) abandons him.

And I don’t know where is this desperate desire to isolate Steve from his found family comes from (well, actually, I have a couple ideas)…

These trop also might seem one of the reasons why shovel talks trop became so popular. And again, in this kind of things, everyone in the group suspects the worst about Steve. But… I mean, in my head, the only person who will receive shovel talks from literally everyone would be Eddie. I imagine that even Mike will show up just to say something “y’know dude, you’re cool and I admire you, but if you hurt Steve I smash your head with your guitar). God, there so much potential for Steve & the party dynamics. So much potential for Steve’s and Mike’s dynamic to explore, but no. Of course, we’ll chose the most toxic, abusive and horrendous relationship dynamic to ever exist.

These “Hellfire club feat. Eddie acting like disrespectful pigs while being guests at Steve’s”… And Steve being a helpless damsel in distress who locks up in his room and cries instead of kicking these assholes out… Lord, give me strength.

This top/bottom, dom/sub shit… Look, I actually headcanon Steve as bi. And. I think that he most likely prefer to be bottom. (Not because he’s weak helpless cry baby who can’t stand up for himself), but because he takes care about everyone so much, that he will probably want for once be the person who receives care from his partner. However, this shit with feminisation and infantilisation of Steve went too far. I mean, you want to ship Eddie with someone fragile, feminine, gentle and someone who will actually cry when people being mean to them? Chrissy Cunningham is right there. There’s nothing wrong with shipping f/m ships. I’m telling ya, your taste hasn’t “upgrade” just because you started shipping mlm.

It’s one thing when people recognise that they’re writing toxic, even abusive relationship. But the way some harringrove fics recently started looked better in comparison with some (actually most) steddie fics is just sending me… Yeah, steddies be like “harringrove is this”, “stancy is that” and then write most horrific, toxic and unhealthy shit ever.

Don’t even get me started on this “Robin starts to care less about Steve/stops caring about Steve at all because of Nancy, or other shitty idea for the plot of another shitty fic”… Just fuck ya’ll. Seriously.

And honestly, the way that rockie is (most of the time) in the love triangle fics in which ronance is endgame…

I mean, the most popular fic with rockie is actually a Steve-centered fic (and it’s good, cause it captures Steve’s dynamic with the party) with rockie being a background ship.

And the second most popular rockie fic is actually a ronance fic with vickie being abuser & manipulator. Ronance shippers stop making Vickie gross and rockie as a whole about ronance challenge. Level impossible.

it’s honestly insane the extent that people feel they have to go to to make eddie seem… more important to steve? they have to totally isolate steve from 90% of his friendships. make characters prefer eddie, and say horrible shit to steve, all to make eddie seem like a good option. the only person that treats steve well. that doesn’t spit on him and treat him like shit. and even then that’s often accompanied by eddie’s friends treating steve like shit and eddie going along with it. it’s just ridiculous (and screams of abusive dynamics, but that’s by the by).

so, usually in ST i find a romantic pairing of two people that i really like, and obsesses over, but i don’t think i’ve ever been obsessed with a ST threesome- like id mention a few threesomes and be like “oh that’s cool” but i wouldn’t go bonkers like i do with Jargyle-

and thus, i had to think about what multiple pairings i enjoy that overlap with a character my first thought was jon, nancy, and steve, but im not really fond for stancy. then i thought what about elumax with lucas el and max- but i wasn’t insane about el and lucas, though i do love lumax and elmax- and i just didn’t know who’d i’d pair byler with, so those are out and maybe robin vickie and nancy but i just haven’t seen enough of vickie for me to really settle on that threesome with nancy

BUT i have found my answer(s)!

1) robin, nancy, and BARB! now, has barb ever even scene robin? don’t think so! but that’s not gonna stop me! (plus maybe they did in the rebel robin book so yeah) and nancy totally has/d a crush on robin and barb, and i think barb and robin would like eachtoher :))))

2) jonathan eddie and argyle! this one i don’t like as much as the one above- but i do love jargyle and eddie is literally just like. a combo of jon and argyle so…yeah! couple o’ freaks and some weed and some music in a van

Why don’t melvin shippers realize that wanting El to find herself outside of a relationship, given what she’s been through and the fact that she’s only 15 years old, is not some kind of insult. It’s not some kind of claim that she doesn’t deserve a relationship at all or is some kind of social leper or that she doesn’t know how to love someone. Many people want the same thing for Nancy! Many people want that for Steve too! To have a journey that does not involve some kind of romantic desire or relationship. This does not mean we don’t love the characters. Nor does it mean we are undermining or insulting them. We are simply expressing what we think the best individual arc would be for that character at this time. Some people make EVERYTHING about a ship, but that isn’t always the case.

4. Jargyle

i mean, it’s cute, but there is very little evidence for this happening. the only reason i could see the writers doing it would be to give jonathan another love interest after a likely jancy breakup. I mean, neither of them seem the most straight to me, but not in a way that makes it seem that their relationship could be anything more than platonic. besides, if half of the ships on this list end up being canon, when you add it to the other canon ships, then adding jargyle would really make it a bit cramped in the romance department

3. Ronance

the chemistry is there! nancy and robin are looking at eachother in those posters, the same way all the other (basically) canon ships are. it might be a thing relating to getting the other person unvecna’d, but then it’s kinda weird that jopper is doing it. also, i feel like nancy being queer could also lead to some actual sibling bonding with you-know-who. good vibes here all around, plus it’s one of my favorite w/w ships ever!

however, there are some things that make me less sure it’ll happen. first of all, vickie. the only reasons i see robin and vickie not happening is A. vickie dies (lame), or B. vickie doesn’t like girls (unlikely). from the way it’s been building up it’s nigh impossible some sort of romantic confrontation (or something like that) between them won’t happen, and it would be kinda weird if it was built of that robin liked vickie only for her to end up with nancy, unless vickie dies, which would be not very cool (but i could see happening in vol 2).

second of all, i have a feeling nancy is gonna die, if not in vol2 then in season 5. but that’s an entire other post, so i won’t say much else. i’d really like this ship to happen, but i won’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

2. Steddie (bisexual steve)

steddie just makes sense for a lot of reasons! steve having an arc where he realizes he’s bisexual has been set up SO well, it works perfectly with his character, it would be a shame if it were wasted. eddie is heavily gay/queer coded, making it perfect for steve to realize things about himself. plus, it would be perfect for the kids to have someone they already look up to be queer, and make them more comfortable with themselves. im about 75% sure that steve is bisexual.

the only problem here is that eddie has some massive death flags in vol2. i really don’t want this to happen, but i can’t ignore the signs. but if he DOES survive vol2, then i believe it’s extremely likely we’ll get steddie in s5. if he doesn’t live, then it’s possible that steve could end up with jonathan, bc of the likely jancy breakup and the fact that it would be poor writing if stancy got back together. i think we’ll for sure see some queer steve stuff in s5.

1. Byler

it’s happening 100%. i have never been this confident in a queer ship (or any ship for that matter) before. i am so confident in byler happening that i am going to schedule a post on july 1st celebrating it. there is no doubt in my mind. too me it’s so obvious it’s happening that i feel like it’s redundant to explain to anybody who’s seen the show why. there are so many reasons (both external and internal) why byler is going to happen that im not even going to list them, just watch the show.

the question is not IF byler is happening, but WHEN byler is happening. In my opinion it would be better if they are established by the end of vol2, not only to haze out the homophobes early, but to give the relationship time to grow so we can see them as a fully fledged couple in s5 before it ends. there are other reasons, but those are the main ones. however i could also see the writers not having them get together yet, and only confirm that they both have feelings for eachother so they can get together early/mid s5 and we can watch them navigate a new relationship and what it means.

finished binging the s4 pt.1 of stranger things. spoiler-heavy thoughts under the cut:

summed up:

we miss the byers - as family and as individual characters. where did they go. why have they disappeared from relevancy to the plot.

we hate forced stancy. this season and all the steve-obsessive fans are going to make a steve anti out of me. 

lumax is the correct ship of the season.

as a jonathan and byers family stan, what a trash season. even tho joyce has a subplot with murray and hopper and jonathan/will have their cali plot going, at the end of the day? absolutely no content. almost no emotional depth. the plots and development have been given to el and hopper in these sequences, joyce moves to further the plot while will is floudnering to be given sexuality plot and jonathan is there for background space. horrific. we have come so far from s1. 

on the romance spectrum, as a stoncy/jancy/stonathan shipper, also a garbage season. why have they decided that stancy should be a thing again? and why did they decide to do this with ZERO developmenet? like, steve having a thing for nancy still? cool, canon, acceptable given how they ended. on the other hand, NANCY having a thing for STEVE? wild. why?? no development given. last we saw them, she was incredibly unstatisfied with steve, incompatitable. she found solace and friendship and kinship with jonathan and was happy - last we left them in s3 jancy were in love and steve???? fully prepared to move on with robin before she came out to him. both of them had moved on (which makes the steve still being hung up on her less plaussible but fine, let’s consider that now that robin’s out he’s back to hung up on nancy okay fine.) 

BUT NOW??? NOW it makes sense that suddenly, jonathan is across the country so now nancy’s catching feels for steve again? even though NOTHING HAS HAPPENED BETWEEN THEM that makes this make sense??? like, literally nothing. they’ve had ZERO solo interactions of merit, no real conversations outside of things related to the plot, but okay, totally makes sense for nancy to stare and for random 3rd person parties to interject into their lives. which is another complaint - why are randos commenting on stancy??? why are they wanting them to get back together??? because (again) no legit interaction has occurred between these two all season - they’ve had NO real interaction since...s2? everything else has been plot or pining from afar by steve. like, omg eddie’s whole speech about true love because nancy jumped in after him??? uncalled for. she truly would have done the same for any of the party i believe bc she’s a gryffindor at heart. but it was giving v much that random lady in s1 who told nancy that love is what made jonathan beat up steve, implying it was love for nancy that made him do it. however, even as a jancy shipper i recognize that no, it was love for his family that made him beat the shit out of steve. same vibes. random third person who knows NOTHING (literally nothing) about the situation butting in with their own opinion on a single event and dubbing it the cause of romantic love even tho the actual circumastances are not that at all.

so i’m dumfounded by the sudden stancy shoving. truly, it’s like the writers expect us to root for it because the audience loves steve and is supposed to want steve to be happy. what makes him happy? nancy, so give him nancy on a silver platter bc even tho it makes no sense for her canon development thus far, we want steve to be happy so who tf cares.

which also, speaking on this situation of steve - this season felt like it catered to him in a way. like he’s been pining after nancy so we’ll have him DO NOTHING and have the girl give him a second glance out of nowehere to make him happy. he’s jealous of his friends new friend? guess what, that new friend is actually jealous of HIM and thinks HE’S the cool one here. he contributes virtually nothing to move the plot forward? still given as much screen time as they can justify because the fans love him. like, lieterally - think about it. he served no purpose to the plot. robin and nancy led the creele lead while eddie, dustin/max/lucas have been leading the upside down lead. steve is v much like jonathan in the respective group where they are both adding to the plot in no real way (steve was dragged to the upside down but that could have just as easily have been one of the others and had no real connection to the character of steve) - but the difference is the writers don’t give two shits about jonathan, but they like steve so they’re gonna give him stupid dumb lines to feed into the himbo vibes given to him by the fans and have him take his shirt off and have the girl he wants have lingering moments with him too and try to do SOMETHING with a character they originally planned to kill of in s1. he’s a pointless character with lots of screentime and it blows.

anyways, i never liked stancy but I tolerated it and shipped it in certain circumstances prior (see: stoncy - we love a monster hunting trio). this season just made me hate them. on the other hand, didn’t think i’d come into this season shipping ronance, and on some level i still don’t, but i would 1000000000% take nancy breaking up with jonathan for robin over returning to steve. new teen ship ranking: jancy, stoncy, stonathan, ronance - then stancy only when its a pre-stoncy situation. 

the season has also made a True lumax shipper out of me. i preferred them to the other alternative in their triangle of dustin/max, and i thought they were cute in s2 but lost them in s3 with the other drama bc they were very much sidelined to support mileven in s3, but s4??? s4 reignited my love for that dyanmic as well as my love for lucas and max as characters (i liked them prior but now i stan). how anyone can leave this season not loving lumax and lucas and max as ships and individual characters is beyond me. im flabbergasted at how byler and steve have taken over the tag when lumax were the true highlights. 

i also stan how songs are used in this show. i feel like that was missing in s3 after we had 2 seasons of should i stay or should i go used iconically. i am so happy to see songs return as a focal point with running up that hill. dear billy’s ending secene?? immaculate. 

i think they have good set up of byler with will coming out, but im still on the fence about reciprocated byler. will def has a crush on mike. i think mike also knows this?? like he lowkey Knows the same way he lowkey Knew will was gay in s3, he just hasn’t actually faced it, and I feel like it can go either way with him. 

i think my ideal kid ships are lumax and byler, but i also wouldn’t be oppossed to a trio with lucas/max/eleven?? where lucas and eleven are max’s bf and gf. idk that montage at the end of dear billy was v much lucas and eleven heavy and i was feeling it for max liking them both. 

in regards to the seperate plots, i liked the plots this season. i was not vibing with the hopper plot initially, like hopper/joyce/murray sequences were times when I felt I could take my eyes off the screen and listen while doing smth else initially. that changed as the demogorgon bit rolled in. by the end i was vibing with this plot.eleven’s plot had me invested because i was so curious as to what happened at the end in her memory. i was satisfied by what happened. the cali plot had no plot, but I will take my byers scraps where I can. meanwhile, the creel story was the most interesting. i was most intrigued by max’s trauma and experiences with henry (dear billy is my fave epiosde of this lot I think) and nancy and robin finding out about it was cool. i like theintersection between it and eleven’s plot. i think the hawkins crew had the most intriguing bits of that plot in the first four episodes, and then el had the most intriguing bit of that plot in the last few episodes.

How the Duffers Got Nancy Wheeler Fucked Up

I don’t even think the Duffer Brothers even know who tf Nancy is anymore cause riddle me the fuck this: 

S1: She’s fighting for Barb, inquisitive, loyal as fuck, and willing to put herself at risk for anyone. She tries to protect Steve, and trusts Jonathan - even going so far as to make the comment about “not wanting a perfect nuclear family” 

Some fucking how Nancy thinks it’s acceptable to defend Jonathan against her boyfriend - even though he literally stalked and took inappropriate photos of her (under the guise of research for The Upside Down) which she was fucking helping him with)

The 2 issues with this: 1) her family comment was meant to be interpreted as “lightly feminist” and she would never have just been like “yeah this is fucking normal, Steve stop, I’m ok with this behavior” and she was upset about Steve breaking his camera (understandable) and that was meant to be interpreted as “understanding of poverty”. 

The famous ‘slut scene’, this has pretty much been explained, played off and interpreted as Tommy and Carol doing it and Steve being there. This whole situation is a hot ass mess - but pretty much, Nancy trotting away with Jonathan who pretty much just stalked her, not defending herself against Steve who just slut shamed her, and not walking the fuck away by herself is literally so inconsistent it’s laughable. Suddenly them becoming a magic trio in the face of danger could be realistic if anyone ever acknowledged anything in the past on this fucking show lmfao. The season still ends with Nancy being a fucking badass, standing at risk for everyone and ending on a fairly good note, right? 

S2: So everyone loves Steve so he’s written into s2 right? However, they’ve already pretty much fucked over Stancy. Except they didn’t need to right? Steve is trying to get into college with Nancy or do something. (We all know the chances of this happening are slim, but that’s not the point). Here’s where the fuck shit happens. The party right? After everything, you’re telling me that Steve would try to control Nancy’s drinking? Of all the stupid ass shit… okay fine. He does, let’s say he does. Like do we all really think she meant their relationship was bullshit? Was that scene strong enough to portray that? Ok, let’s say it was. Bam, broken up. Except in a stupid, shitty, pussy ass way, right? So then, Nancy tries to talk to Steve. You’re fucking telling me that after all the shit Steve Harrington and Nancy fucking Wheeler went through he wouldn’t listen to shit she had to say? Come the fuck on. That is just unfucking true and inconsistent as fuck with Nancy’s character. She certainly would not run the fuck after him, but she would not break up with him with no words, in a drunken form of repeating “it’s bullshit.” 

But- to save Steve’s character, we have to make Nancy a bitch. 

Now Jonathan and Nancy - again, buddy buddy. Nothing ever discussed, nothing. Just suddenly sexual tension. Again, supposedly this was planned which is cool, however were the pictures also planned? Is this not creepy as fuck? Like not Nancy being like yes let’s fuck. Again- was no one picking up these badass feminine vibes? Was there any connection between Nancy and Karen in s1 the way there was with anyone else and their parents? (I mean I interpreted that was as resentment after the cul-de-sac thing but like that could be a stretch). 

So they have sex right? This makes Nancy desirable, but also creates the softness that they both are seeking, however… this creates an actual relationship how? Shared trauma… okay? But somehow this relationship is supposed to work with no dialogue when Nancy is constantly in charge and in front, demanding shit and Jonathan is much more lion-hearted- it doesn’t make sense! 

This literally was shit on Nancy and make her valuable only to further the men’s storylines this season! But if we put a gun in her hand again, it’s okay! 

S3: Oh my fucking god. Now this is a true shit on Nancy show. Nancy and Jonathan have their jobs doot doot doo. Nancy (again.. The little 1980s White Feminism Lite), I know we see it. She’s getting fucking dragged. Dead ass, dragged. Like every day. Now, Jonathan - who has been sensitive since she’s known him (picture thing aside), he has always been a listener and tried to give advice or at least said some nice shit. 

He acts like he has no time! I understand he wants to keep his job and keep his head down, I truly do - however there is deadass no talking about it, no being like yeah babe this is a shitshow, he is pretty much like suck it up, keep your head down, pull up your bootstraps #AmericanDream, print off money, I’m coming for ya. 

Especially, especially after saving the world so many times, I would be fucking pissed, and Nancy has every right to be. Jonathan would have been fucked up if he didn’t go with her cause Nancy has always been there for him, but it’s fucked for him to blame her, knowing good and goddamn well what’s been going on. 

Their fight- Nancy has always known Jonathan’s situation, and Jonathan has always known Nancy’s situation. So why the fuck the Duffers chose to play oppression olympics with an established couple and have them try to play poverty against sexism and act like Nancy suddenly didn’t give a fuck about how Jonathan needed the job and was actually being selfish for I don’t know, not wanting to be treated like that every second of her life, for what was even less than Jonathan was making (and we know ain’t nobody think of that), and for Jonathan to not care, knowing this was the literal worse thing that could have happened to Nancy, come the fuck on. But once again, if we make Nancy a bitch, then we can add to our male storylines. This is not the Nancy from s1, nor even the Nancy from s2 who nervously got into bed with Jonathan at Murray’s. 

Of course Nancy is the bitch until she comes back in with the gun, to save the day. Hopefully no one noticed that she’s been a whiny bitch this entire season and has complained “oh wow, I’m a girl, everyone’s mean to me.” 

Also, she meets Robin for one second and then they’re just all chilling singing songs around the campfire at the beginning of s4. 

Oh, also, since they had a near death experience, Nancy is of course over the fight with Jonathan, where she, being the bitch and all, is now going to miss him so so much. 

Who the fuck is this girl y’all? 

S4: Robin and Nancy definitely would have talked more and gotten to know each other. Maybe not off camera but Nancy would have been suspicious af and then jealous af like she’s supposed to be the only girl and yada yada. Where is Nancy’s usual trepidation that the girl has with fucking everything? 

I also feel like Nancy would have bonded a lot more with Max after her and Robin did the Vecna research and they discovered the music - Nancy completely withdrew from how close she was to the kids throughout the seasons - the only good scene with her and Max was the shotgun scene and that could probably said for all the scenes with the kids. 

Good god the fucking Stancy travesty. If you’re going to do something, do it right. Steve and Nancy sexual tension… great A+, okay. However, Steve saying he imagined 6 kids (we can go back to s1 where Nancy said she didn’t want a nuclear family, though she never explicitly said kids, it was heavily implied and meant to be interpreted that way). But, him saying that “she was always there” You’re telling me that Nancy Wheeler, regardless of Jonathan or not, which by the way, they are a complete motherfucking trainwreck- would not respond at all? Now y’all are fucking stretching it? No matter the response, even a soft or even a stern, “Steve”, she would have said something. Again, Steve saying that she really set him straight and he wishes he wouldn’t have lost her, Nancy the loud mouth, bad ass Wheeler, wouldn’t have said anything? Not a gasp? Not a choke? Bitch- crickets were heard motherfucker. Like you are joking. Who the fuck is this? This is why Natalia ain’t doing interviews. The girl is shooketh. 

Jancy- a shit show there too. Why have we been building this for 3 seasons, why are we fucking claiming this is end game when they haven’t talked. They’re literally giving Jonathan a story line (lying to Nancy about college) at the detriment of her entire character - what do you think I’m going to say y’all? Not having a nuclear family. No one is saying he needs to move away from his family. What we’re saying is speed this breakup the fuck along pal. Again- everyone and everything is falling apart and a fucking forehead kiss? That’s what we get? Nancy Wheeler accepts that? Nancy Wheeler doesn’t stand up for herself and is just like yeah babe, good to see you too! 

It’s okay though because she had a gun a lot!  Everything has turned into the disintegration of the character they created to further serve the purpose of mainly male characters on the show. At this point her storylines are bleak and new characters storylines have more meat than her own. Everytime she goes to fight something, it’s not what she thinks, good enough, someone has to save her now, etc. She’s confident, but not like she used to be, easily defeated and somehow once again, caught between two boys who at this point honestly don’t deserve her. In fact, people are more mad at Nancy (guess who’s a bitch again) for wanting Jonathan to go to college with her than they are at fucking Jonathan with her! Nancy just really deserved better and its a goddamn fucking shame.

I guess my feelings are this: volume 2 had a lot of cool individual moments, but as a whole it does not live up to the hype that volume 1 created. It was not as cohesive or satisfying to watch. In particular, some glaring issues I have with it are:

Eddie being used as likable-new-character-death-fodder so they don’t have to kill off any of the main cast. Same as seasons 2 and 3

Following up with the prev point, Eddie’s reputation never being resolved and the whole angry mob thing going nowhere

Steve’s bat bites?? No consequences for those I guess

Jason having no point except to squish a Walkman and then die

What the hell happened to Owens?

Max’s victory with music/happy memories being ultimately useless; such a strong, powerful moment should have had a better conclusion than a flip-flop between death/coma. It also undermines the message of Max’s healing process that the initial Kate Bush montage gave us

Robin having a sad lesbian moment only for the girl to dump her bf in the next scene? For why?

Stancy being teased at for 7 episodes only to a hit a wall, then have the jancy conflict not even fully resolved??

Mike being a shitty person and friend to Will and it’s just not. Really fixed. He’s still hyper-focused on El, same as always. Seriously wtf happened to his friendships with the boys, I’m tired of it

Will’s queerness being used to bolster a hetero relationship. His queerness being used to fix Mike’s insecurities. His queerness being used to and isolate him and make him cry, with only his brother to notice. I feel the need to repeat that his queerness was used to BOLSTER A HETERO RELATIONSHIP. It is not good rep to the point where it is insulting.

There’s probably more but holy shit Will’s character has deserved way more grace than it has gotten in seasons 3 and 4. Wow.

Anyway. Was one of those experiences where I had fun in the moment, but ultimately volume 2 ended up being disappointing in comparison to the first 7 episodes. Here’s hoping that season 5 can address and fix at least some of these issues.

i typed a more lengthy response to this b4 nd tumblr just. nuked it so i’ll just say that while yes this season has numerous problems and bits that i’m not the biggest fan of (hello russia plot, hello stranger things’ patented oddly written bullying, hello stancybaitgate (no offence intended to my stancy mutuals lov y’all)) this season is a MAJOR step-up from s3. like a HUMONGOUS improvement tbh

highlights from the top of my head:

max’s storyline was done so much more respectfully than i was expecting and genuinely made me cry i love her so much

robin and nancy are soooooooo autistic and fruity this season it’s a blessing

murray and joyce being comedic besties (and making their storyline worthwhile)

eddie and steve are two different flavours of off the fucking walls and i love that for them

i love seeing el’s development as she grows up !!! i just wish that she didn’t get thrown into the deep end of high school

the gore effects this volume were simply chef’s fuckin kiss and greatly appealed to the deranged little horror fanatic in me

continuing on from that, vecna/henry creel was soooooooo creepy and cool i think he’s an awesome villain overall (and much better than some of the other human ones in the show 👀)

and finally. my boy. my bestest boy in the whole wide world. jonathan honeypie byers my fucking beloved. i’m glad that he had more of an introspective storyline than he had last season (and an unfair amount in s2 tbh) and we actually have scenes where he’s the primary focus (if only for a little while). i’m overjoyed he has argyle to be there for him, even if he’s a little misguided at times and doesn’t think things through, because jonathan needs and deserves ppl to be in his corner; he deserves a support system and ppl who care abt him. jonathan’s outfits have also slapped this season, loving all the fruity shirts he’s been wearing. and unpopular opinion maybe, but i also rly like his hair !!!! it’s like an overgrown shaggy version of his s1 hair which i appreciate immensely.

overall i wish that the cali storyline had more screentime (also more el too) in all honesty; i want more big brother byers moments!!!! also more joyce/family interactions, given that the s4 interactions between her and jonathan were limited and not super great. i’m also praying that the love triangle nonsense that’s been abruptly rehashed for s4 (which i’d thought we’d moved way past in season 3??? hello) doesnt shit all over his character development, same going for nancy and steve too; if we’re doing this then for the love of fuck please just give us stoncy. i know they won’t but like. please

rounding off tho, i don’t think that the og jonathan that likeminded jon stans prefer i.e the original characterisation of jonathan, from s1 (ya know: perceptive, responsible, sensitive, artistic, self-aware, passionate, ambitious, stalwart) would rly be very happy with this s4 variant. i’ve seen some ppl view some of his scenes where he’s high off his mind as kind of sad? and i can’t help but compare his lack of awareness and how uninvolved he seems (initially, that is) to how hands-on and “take charge” he used to be (i only put that in quotation marks bc i don’t think that phrase greatly applies to him the majority of the time, since he’s not rly your hopper-esque macho male protag). like when joyce asked him what was wrong with him when he was asking “what’s going on” and repeating the things told to him (processing brand new info under an already influenced mind ofc), that just keeps coming back to me as s1!jonathan asking the same thing to his current self ya know?? like idk if the two met i feel that s1!jonathan would be kind of disappointed in what’s happened to him, if not understanding of his s4!self’s circumstances and also kind of thankful that he’s not as on-edge. hm. much to think abt (or write a fanfiction about 👀)

Ok so here’s how I would like the Stancy vs Jancy love triangle to be resolved. Even though I like Stancy (they had amazing chemistry this season) I feel like them getting back together would be kind of strange because they spent the first two seasons emphasizing that Steve and Nancy aren’t right together and that Nancy is not in love with Steve. I felt like the way they built up their relationship was more like a “two good people but wrong for each other” trope than a “right person wrong time” trope but I would not be opposed if they go that route.

Additionally, the timing of Stancy’s reconnection is interesting to me. Johnathan is absent and Nancy is unsure about her relationship. Why wouldn’t she want to lean on someone who she’s comfortable with and who she’s had a previous connection with? And Steve is struggling to figure what type of woman he wants to date, so why wouldn’t he go for someone he’s wanted and loved before?

Now onto Johnathan, I’m sure he loves Nancy but is he still in love with her? In my opinion, he seems kind of checked out of the relationship (and everything else). Johnathon’s arc consists of self-sacrificing for his family or his girlfriend. How nice would it be if he doesn’t go to Emerson or Lenora Community but instead goes to his dream school, NYU? Johnathon talks about how Nancy would grow to resent him if she gives up Emerson for him but wouldn’t he grow to resent her if he gives up NYU for her? Both Nancy and Johnathan are going in different directions and it would be best for them to break-up before the relationship becomes unhealthy or as Johnathan said before they end up like his parents. Additionally, I am sick and tired of tv shows making teenagers end up with their first love.

So here’s what I think should happen: Steve realizes that by going back to Nancy, they would both be regressing, so he communicates that to Nancy, who agrees. Nancy also realizes that for her to want to go back to her comfort zone with Steve, her relationship with Johnathon is also not working. Johnathon has a heart-to-heart with Joyce or Will (in this case, it will most probably be Will) and Will/Joyce tells Johnathan that they’ll be fine and for him to follow his dreams and stop being so self-sacrificing. Johnathan tells Nancy that he wants to go to NYU and they both agree that their relationship is not working, so they decide to break-up. Steve, Nancy and Johnathan are all single and friends. The only person in their group who ends up dating someone is Robin because usually in shows, all the straight people have a love interest and the gay person ends up alone, so I think this scenario would be a cool subversion of that trope.

I believe that byler is an endgame

but why would they spend 3 seasons winding up with mileven?

People REALLY need to pay attention to the shows the Duffers cited as huge inspirations to them. Cheers,dawsons creek, freak &geeks did exactly what the Duffers are doing (and the Duffers said these shows inspired them)

. Cheers for over 5 seasons built up the pairing of sam and Dianne- had them break up in the s5 finale and then in the last 2 eps of the 11th season have them get back together and once again break up explaining for the 100th time they were wrong for each other and brought out the worst in eachother . Cheers would build up multiple pairings (Frasier /Lilith (s4-11/broke up in s11) , sam/Dianne (s 1-11, broke up in s11 permanently) , rebecca /sam (s8-10) Rebecca/robin (s8-9) -these pairings lasted for multiple seasons and they all broke up! They built pairings up for multiple seasons but showed throughout the show why those pairing in cheers could never work out in the long term. The same Thing happened with almost every pairing in Dawson’s creek (they’d build up multiple pairings up -sometimes for multiple seasons- sprinkle in good but also dysfunctional aspects of those relationships- and then break them apart for good ).

Also in Dawson’s creek 2 characters (a rich girl and poor guy with daddy issues) date and breakup- but both of their gay brothers get together and are endgame instead of them (cough jancy vs byler). One of the gay guys (the rich one with the book smart sis) even dated the main girl (Joey) for a while before admitting he was gay and that he was in denial (while dating the main girl for more than a season ). In D.C even the main guy(Dawson) / girl (Joey) don’t end up being endgame (despite teasing it for all 5 seasons) . They did this with a lot of couples in the show. Honestly, the Duffers pretty much borrowed this idea of showing pairings with issues and breaking them up -but toned down how long they’d bait them . Like 11seasons of showing dysfunctional couples date -ick. And Dawson’s creek ... my god it had a literal love octogon/ love webs (so many love squares/pentagons/ and on and off relationships). The 1 adult couple broke up and I’m not exaggeration 4 times, and Dawson got back with 2 of his girlfriends like so many times. And ugh I’d say each (of the 4-5) main characters dated at least 4 people -and each of those relationships lasted for like 20+ eps each... and then after all that build up -break up ). That’s not even including the people the main 5 or so characters would date for like 5-6 eps . Thank god it was toned down compared to Dawson’s creek or cheers. i can’t imagine the frustration watching those shows during its airing 😂

Freaks & geeks (set in the 80s)was also inspo.14 y old Sam who is bullied and called “homo” “queer” etc throughout the whole series - he also obsesses over a cheerleader girl for the whole series and in the second to last ep of the series- they finally start dating  and he realizes they have nothing in common and says “it’s boring. all we ever do is makeout.She likes nothing i like. We can’t talk to eachother. We never have fun.” And he admits he only keeps dating her cause everyone would call him “crazy” to not date her. sam and her are also said to be “from different planets” and “different species”  just like mileven in s3 lol.  The gf of  sam also says before they dated she saw him ‘like a sister’ (like El asking mike if he’d be her brother in s1, before they date). And after this sibling comment various characters -encouraged the couple and said they would be good together (before they dated-like what we’ve seen in st with mileven and other ships ).Sam eventually decides to not cave to peer pressure- and breaks up with her. Meanwhile sam’s sis (is a straight A student, who is initially into a popular guy and starts hanging with the cool kids).  After getting over the first (popular) guy, she later dates another guy- a music-obsessed-stoner-guy  with a cruddy dad...and she breaks up with him (like jancy?). That couple was even called ‘romeo & juliet’ before they broke up-similar to mileven being called “romeo & juliet’ before their breakup. plus r&j were never in love... just like mileven.

All 3 shows had the main guy/girl date but not end up with eachother in the end . And both shows -would build up several pairings that looked like endgame but would show faults in those relationships and would have them breakup (because those pairings were never that healthy together). Which I believe is what they’re doing with jancy, jopper, mileven and lumax (explained in my analysis here all the evidence for why I don’t think they don’t end up together). I mean there’s many reasons I listed in the analysis but you think it’s a coincidence - jancy, lumax, mileven , and Steve/rando girl who rejected him in s3-all incorportated spying on their love interest ? you think the duffers think that’s good to have all these romantic pairings spy on eachother? When in the show they canonically have the us gov (villains) spy via phone taps, and hidden recorders, and cameras? Brenner used El as a spy for his own gain ? they even call the mf a ‘spy’ (which the characters perceive as the  main villain)... i don’t think the mf is  actually villainous but that’s off topic).The point is narratively equating spying as something ‘wrong’ by characters our main cast of heroes is against. But having that same cast of heroes partaking in spying themselves … specifically on to their romantic partners- and not also showing it as a negative. But romanticizing it? Would be quite hypocritical. And a HUGE narrative oversight.

Also build up?

S1- mileven kiss right after el asks if he’ll be her “friend” or “brother”. Has others compare el to mike’s sibling /cousin. Hint Will is gay . Have hints mike is queer too/ and cares deeply about Will. Constantly mention how el physically resembles Will/a boy. Parallel mileven to ted/Karen who were “never in love”. Have Nancy and mike verbally compare the jancy/stancy love triangle to mileven/byler . And at the end of the season mike writes a story for Will that likens the 2 to han/leia. Flo says about jancy/Jon “ only love makes you that crazy and that damn stupid”. (Which flo wasn’t entirely right about since jon punched Steve for insulting his family- for Jon it was familial love -not romantic love. But put a pin in that phrase)

S2- was pretty much byler season (and mileven barely interact that season). Byler say they’d go “crazy together”. But el’s new catchphrase is she’s “not stupid.” They Compare mileven to luke/leia (siblings that kissed) . Ref ghostbusters and parallel byler to the romantic pairing of Dana /venkman (but have el just be a ghost and mike a ghost buster which isn’t romantic but the opposite) .parallel mileven to hopper/el. Have el spy on mike, el hurt a stranger cause of unhealthy jealousy, have mileven dance to a song about a possessive spying/Stalking ex gf . Throw in mileven burns like “they’re not in love they’re not even from the same planet.” (El being et ref) . Have mike say annoyed “a bond ?! (Scoff) cause you shared nougat?! “ (egos like s1 ) “. Mike saying after knowing max for a week “hate you? I don’t even know you?” (He knew el for a week too so no way he loves her -cause he doesn’t know el , just like max ) . mike even criticizes his friends’ instant attraction to max saying “you haven’t even spoken a word to her.”Dustin saying “ I don’t have to . I mean -look at her.” Which makes it even more suspicious that mike was into a girl who multiple characters said looked like a boy (specifically Will) in s1. Have El watch a soap opera (all my children) and mimic the scene of  erica kane and her love interest michael. Which in the soap opera-isn’t endgame, and ended with some stalking after their breakup.

S3- mileven is finally dating : multiple characters (lucas, Will, Hopper, dustin,Max, etc) in the show dislike and verbally complain about them together . In cheers all of sam’s friends hated him dating Dianne and would vocally complain about it (similar to joyce they even clapped/cheered after 1 of their many breakups) . Mike is horrified by the spying(that mileven fans romanticized in s2) , el is happier single and neither is heartbroken over the breakup. They date for 2 eps and then breakup . Mileven being together inhibits El’s character arc from s2 (aka she went from wanting to explore the world and leave the cabin in s2 to see her friends, to ignoring her friends and cutting herself off from the world in order to stay in the cabin all day to make out with mike for 6 months - she would literally lie to her friends about curfew to return to the cabin and kiss mike -going against her ‘friends don’t lie’ mantra from the past 2 seasons too ). Mike canonically doesn’t trust her / doesn’t believe in her ability to make decisions and lies to her and never apologizes for lying. And el doesn’t apologize for spying . They throw in more gay hints of mike & Will. Mileven is called “bullshit” like s2 stancy . And Both pairings in the show kissed a bunch and said “I love you” (but they weren’t endgame). They also contrast s3 mileven scenes to s2 byler scenes and have byler win out. And once again parallel mileven to hopper/el and Karen/ted. As well as paralleling and likening Mileven to stancy in numerous other ways (besides the “bullshit “ line) . They also parallel mileven to stobin (both are straight baits) .They parallel the stobin confession to the mileven one -both confessions have them sitting on the floor, both girls have bandages on their legs, and both confessions are interrupted by dustin. Also both Steve/mike use the terms “crazy & stupid ” to confess to robin/el. But unlike Will who agrees to be “crazy “ with mike .El confused , asks “ what makes you crazy?” And robin says she didn’t have a crush on his “stupid hair”. el even says in reference to mike “there’s more to life than stupid boys.” Showing how el/robin don’t have romantic feelings for the boys-like the flo phrase of s1. Unlike Will who after fighting with mike calls himself “stupid” over and over and rips up the photo of him and mike where they promised to go “crazy together.” Even Steve says in s2 stancy should should “pretend to be stupid teenagers” in love. Emphasis on “pretend”. And when el says she loves mike “the first I love you” plays -the only other time that song plays in s3 is when robin rejects Steve (cause she’s gay.) cough cause mike is gay too.

There’s a lot more in each season (that illustrates mileven was built up -but not as a positive couple but a problematic one that was never was in love to begin with ). But I’m trying to keep this short . You can read this post here where I go in more depth about all of this .

S1-2 builds up the problematic ships (but showed good and bad aspects of their dynamic) . like the spying of jancy, lumax, and mileven or the jealousy. of Hopper in s2. In the s2 finalie they have them kiss or hug/exchange romantic glances. And in S3 we see the after math of this with all the couples officially dating - and they show all the couples issues at the forefront . I already talked about mileven. But, Lumax broke up 6 times (they dated for 6 months- and every month they dated max dumped him ). Jancy fight in the opening of ep 1 and don’t understand each others issues (sexism/poverty-and Jon’s issues with his dad) . And neither supports the other in their passions of journalism & photography.Nancy is also called “nancy drew” who in 1986 (year of s4) before going to college dumps her long term highschool bf (who helped her in many of her past mysteries/novels ). Their relationship was also shown as complex and somewhat dysfunctional because of both parties -before nancy drew dumps him. And (even if not dating like the other pairings) jopper almost go on a date in s3. Joyce was trying to hide the fact she was moving, Hopper was horribly jealous, and all they did was yell and argue.Murray says to joyce regarding hopper “he’s a brute... probably reminds you of a bad relationship” (aka lonnie/Joyce) . They even have Joyce watch a cheers ep- which directly compares jopper to (dianne/Frasier) who weren’t endgame in cheers but a rebound .  Hopper /fraiser both drink chianti . Fraiser asks dianne to marry him/Hopper asks Joyce on a date-both women stand them up. Or when Joyce asks Hopper out she calls her self ‘detective byers ‘and Hopper name drops miami vice. Which had an on and off again relationship for several seasons- of the male /female detectives.The relationship faded out as Gina realized they mainly got together when one or both needed someone. Crockett was very protective of Gina, and had some jealousy when Gina was involved in relationships , but was the first one to be there for her when things went wrong. And they realized it was better to not be together romantically. Heck seems like all these couples have negative film/tv parallels... lucas in s2 mentions not liking winston in ghost busters cause he came ‘super late’ (like Max). in s1 disses michael myers (which Max dressed as). And at the end of s3- lumax dress identically to eric/donna from a ep of that 70s shows (in the ep  eric/donna were broken up).

 (s3 was marketed as the “summer of love” and “summer love” is a euphemism for flings that don’t last.) s4-5 Will probably show good healthy ships/break up the problematic ones from past seasons .

So first 2 seasons focus on the unhealthy ships / and the last 2 seasons focus on healthy ships. S3 the middle season would be considered the turning point -and why none of the popular ships (assumed to be endgame) came off looking that great (compared to how they were presented in s1-2) .

Tbh, S4 severely undermined Steve's character in the narrative due to some writing choices.

They refuse to develop Steve's character past S2. He's got no proper love interest instead is pining for Nancy that doesn't even go no where (no i dont think Stancy is happening, sorry.). They made Dustin closer to Eddie instead, which undermined Steve and Dustin's bond tbh. Steve's also got no family and the show refuses to expand on that anyways. I would even say that the season kinda undermined Steve and Robin's relationship, btw it just gives the narrative reason for the writers to shift focus towards Robin and Vickie for the next season.

I don't think Steve is dying, but i think his character is becoming wasted and undermined in the narrative. I think the writers are just gonna pair Steve up with Dustin and Robin for some time, and he'd then team up with Jonathan and Nancy as a 'sidekick'. Yeah such a cool narrative indeed.

honestly the duffers have been under minding steve’s character since s3.

steve got popular in s2, and since then he has become more and more of a caricature, in the hopes that he will stay popular if they keep making dumb and babysitter jokes. so, i’m not really surprised that that’s the way they continued to write him in s4. disappointed but not surprised. (and fair enough if you don’t see stancy! honestly i’m not 100% it will happen, but i do think it’s really the only plot line that makes sense now that they’ve begun in that direction)

even in s3 they began diluting dustin and steve’s bond. they decided they wanted exasperated 14 year old babysitting drugged teens more than they wanted a truthful depiction of steve and dustin. it is tragic that they wasted so much time on dustin and eddie, and the most we got with dustin and steve is eddie telling steve that dustin worships him. like come on, let them hug!!!

it’s still insane to me that we’ve never even seen steve’s parents. where are they?

and yeah, a lot of stobin was about romance this season, which i didn’t hate! i do love vickie, but i wish we’d just gotten some more of them.

i do not think steve will die because he’s a fan favourite and the duffers are pussys when it comes to killing off their own characters. but yeah, i think a lot of steve’s time in s5 will just be him and the others. a couple dumb jokes, a couple babysitter jokes, and he’ll get even more beat to shit then he did last season! but he will magically not suffer from these injuries and will ultimately be fine.

December 1984

"Hey, sorry I'm late!" Y/N said as she slid into the passenger seat of Steve's car, quickly closing the door behind her to block the freezing wind blowing outside. "I thought I lost this skirt but it turns out it 'magically' appeared in my sister's closet last month and she had 'absolutely no idea' how it got there."

"How convenient for Casey," He reached over to brush some snow from the shoulder of her emerald green coat and she smiled, grabbing his warm hand and dropping a quick kiss on the back of it before lacing her cold fingers through his.

"It's okay, she still hasn't figured out these are the tights I borrowed from her last Christmas." 

"Tell her she's never getting them back because you look beautiful.”

The girl ducked her head and tightened her grip on his hand. "Flatterer. Get going or we're gonna be even later than we already are."

"Okay, just let me do this first." And after pulling her in for a kiss that lingered, warm and safe like fire in a hearth, he put the car in drive and headed off into the cold night.

By the time they arrived at Tina's house and found a place to park on the crowded street, the party was in full swing, bass pumping loud through the front door, and Y/N turned to Steve with a frown as they stood on the porch, bathed in the soft glow of the lights strung on the roof.

"Is it, I don't know, tacky to show up this late? Oh my God, we're gonna look like idiots and it's all my fault-"

"Hey, we're fine, okay?" He said, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear before leaning down to place a kiss on her forehead. "It's only an hour and all the cool kids show up late, anyway."

She cracked a small smile at his joke and laced her fingers with his once again. "Sorry, I don't really get to go to many parties so I'm kind of...nervous."

That was fair, the last time he'd seen her at one was the summer before freshman year, at the eighth grade graduation party the school hosted at the Hawkins community pool (not that he'd been keeping track, no). 

"We don't have to go in if you don't want to," Steve said, bringing their entwined hands to his mouth so he could drop another kiss on her knuckles. "We could go see a movie, maybe grab some food at the diner? I think I'm ready to try skating backwards so we could always go to the rink-"

"That's sweet of you but I'm not driving your ass to the hospital tonight," Y/N giggled at the way he rolled his eyes and mumbled 'gee, thanks' under his breath before she continued, her voice quiet and soft and oh so honest. "But seriously, I know how much you wanted to come to this and I really, um, I really wanna be here with you. Together."

Together. That's what they were for almost two weeks now, the best damn twelve days of his life, and while they never bothered hiding their relationship, they hadn't outright said they were dating yet; Tina's party was to be their big debut before going back to school in the new year and he couldn't wait to show the entirety of Hawkins High that this beautiful girl holding his hand, looking up at him with a bright smile on her face and sparkling lights reflecting in her eyes, wanted him.

"Pretty sure I'm the luckiest bastard on the planet, being here with you."

Y/N raised up on her tiptoes to press her lips to his, hand holding tight to his for balance. "Well then I must be the luckiest bitch. Now come on! Let's go party."

Things were great at first, aside from the typical nasty jabs from Carol and Tommy H -having nothing better to do than harass anyone who had the audacity to be happy in their miserable presences- as they danced with their classmates, arms wound tight around each other, spinning gracelessly, smiling and laughing and wrapped up in their own perfect little world.

And then Y/N had one too many cups of spiked cider. 

She was tipsy, swaying as she loudly sung along to Fleetwood Mac and when Steve caught her after she tripped over her heeled boots and sloshed booze on the hardwood floor, he couldn't help but think of a different party, a different time, a different girl. The night Nancy Wheeler broke his heart with one word, repeated over and over like a broken record: bullshit.

She was here, surprisingly, tucked in a corner across the room with Jonathan at her side, but the sight of them huddled close together, happy and in love, didn't hurt like it used to, like it did before he fell so hard for the girl wrapped in his arms, giggling as she twirled a strand of his hair around her finger and peppered little kisses all over his cheeks. 

"Stevie, baby boy, have I ever told you how cute you are?" She laughed delightedly at the blush rapidly spreading across his face and pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth. "So cute, so handsome, so beautiful."

"You're the beautiful one, Y/N," He replaced the half-full cup of cider in her hand with his can of pop -which she finished without noticing the switch- then steered her back toward the living room, away from the punch bowl. "Come on, let's get you home."

"No, Grandpa'll kill me if I come home like...like this!" She pointed to herself before clutching his hand in between both of hers like it was a lifeline. "Can I stay with you?"

At his nod, she squealed happily and wrapped her arms around his waist, the top of her head accidentally banging against his chin as she hugged him tight. "You're the best, Stevie! Stevie, Stevie...oh, like Stevie Nicks! Like, I love her but not as much as I love you." 

For the second time in this damn house, Steve was blindsided by the words of a drunk girl, feet frozen to the ground and brain just about short-circuiting as it tried to process what the hell she'd just said. "What?"

Y/N looked up, chin on his chest and a soft smile dancing on her lips and the blood rushing in his ears drowned out the pounding music, their classmates' chatter, everything and anything except her voice. "I think I love you."

"You're drunk, Y/N." He finally managed to croak after a long, long pause, in which the grin slowly slipped from her face with each passing second of silence; 'drunk words are sober thoughts' the saying always went, he knew it to be true firsthand, and yet something in him tried to warn him not to believe her (how could he, after all those terrible, shitty things he did to Nancy) as he somehow got his feet to move and started guiding her toward the front door. 

"So?" Keeping one arm around his waist, she shuffled alongside him all the way to his car and let him unceremoniously drop her into the passenger seat. "I just...that's just...ugh, words are hard."

He smiled to himself as he buckled her in and then rounded the car to the driver's side, her hand grabbing his and pulling it onto her lap the second he started driving toward his house. "They are, aren't they?"

Head leaned back against the seat, she took a deep breath and turned to look at him in the dim light of the dashboard. "Listen, I don't really know what love is 'cause I've never felt it before but...I think I could. With you."

Stopped at a street light, Steve met her eyes and tightened his grip on her hand and everything clicked into place when he said the words he'd been thinking for a month, ever since that cold December day he managed to pluck up the courage to ask her for skating lessons. "I think I could feel it with you, too."

Y/N might've missed most of his mouth when she leaned over for a kiss but to him, it was everything he needed.

actually ok ive absorbed a lot of s4 spoilers to prep myself for the last half bc I am actually very wary of watching eddie die bc he’s my baby so i’ll just say what i know full disclosure I haven’t seen the second half

- the show is definitely less enjoyable this season & i do think the writing is suffering p heavily

- there is way. way. way too much going on and way too much to keep track of

- cannot stand robin, she is so incredibly one note & nothing about her lands

- stancy is fucking ridiculous

- i really thought we were done w like. the cold war shit pro usa shit from s3 and im really annoyed that russia is still part of this at all

- none of the characters younger than like nineteen are particularly interesting & their relationships even less so

- everybody is doing my boy jonathan a disservice including the writers but even so he’s always gotten so much more hate than he deserved and this season it’s not like he’s an actively bad person he still cares a lot for his family & friends obviously he’s just really struggling with a difficult decision and he doesn’t want to disappoint the woman he loves who he clearly sees as too good for him so to like?? withhold information from her bc he’s scared of not being good enough isn’t like. absolutely unfathomably horrible

- argyle is the funniest thing on the show im pro jargyle

- i really don’t know why they would write someone as cool & potentially interesting as eddie just to dispose of him but that’s probably just me being like. the perfect candidate to be absolutely obsessed w this mf bc there are clearly tons of people who legitimately don’t give a shit so maybe I’m?? like being silly here i just feel like it’s such a set up then just nope!
