★ ˎˊ˗ you were supposed to be studying.
that was the whole reason you invited chris over — or at least, that’s what you told yourself to get "extra credit". he showed up with his notes all neatly stacked, color-coded tabs peeking out of a worn binder, and that same soft-focus, serious look on his face. like he actually cared about helping you pass.
but after the third time you got the same question wrong — and not entirely by accident — you stopped pretending to try.
chris exhales sharply beside you, tapping his pen against the page like it’s taking everything in him not to snap. “we just went over this,” he says, voice low but firm. “are you even listening?”
you shrug, leaning back in your chair with a grin. “you’re the genius here. thought you’d carry me.”
he doesn’t smile.
instead, he sets the pen down slowly, deliberately, and looks at you with something different — something sharper, darker, hungry. the air shifts, tightens.
“get on the desk,” he says.
you blink. “what?”
chris doesn’t repeat himself. he doesn’t have to. his hand wraps around your wrist, gentle but certain, and suddenly your back hits the desk and your breath stutters in your chest. the study session is over. and whatever you thought this was going to be? you were so wrong.
but now your thighs are spread and shaking while you're bent over, and he’s looking down at you like you’re the problem he’s solving next.
“you’re so close, baby,” he murmurs, voice all warmth and steady hands as he sinks into you, slow and deep. “you’ve got it in you—I know you do.”
you moan softly, arching into him, chasing more—more of his touch, more of his words. but Chris won’t rush. not when he’s teaching you gently, like always.
“there you go,” he whispers, brushing his lips along your cheek as he pulls out just enough to make you shiver. “focus for me, just like i taught you. you’re doing so good, angel.”
you whimper, voice cracking as you force the answer from your lips. and the second you do, he slams back inside like he owns you. like he can’t get close enough, no matter how deep he goes.
fists curling, your nails dig into the wood surface, barely finding grip as he pounds into you harder, rough and deep, making the desk beneath you creak. the air is heavy with skin-on-skin, ragged moans, and gasps that teeter on the edge of sobs. his glasses are fogged, jaw tight, breath wild — like he’s been waiting forever to let go.
“say you need me,” he rasps against your neck, hips stuttering from the way your pussy tightens around him. “say it or i’ll fucking stop.”
“i need you,” you choke, brain scrambled, tears streaking hot down your cheeks. “i—fuck, chris, please don’t stop.”
he grins, crooked and soaked in a sheen coat of sweat, before pressing his mouth to yours in a kiss so messy you’re left breathless, lips bruised and sticky with spit. and then he’s fucking you like he’s starving, like you’re the only thing that’s ever mattered.
your orgasm hits like a punch to the gut, thighs trembling as you cry out, but chris doesn’t stop. he grabs your hips and holds you still as he fucks you through it, chasing his own release, cursing under his breath.
“fuck—fuck, you feel so good, shit—gonna fill you up,” he groans, burying himself as deep as he can go before spilling inside, his whole body tensing with the force of it.
you’re dizzy, barely clinging to reality as he finally pulls out, only to drop to his knees with a look in his eyes that could make you come again on the spot.
he drops to his knees without a word, his mouth finds the mess between your legs, tongue dragging through the slick warmth as he licks you clean, slow and reverent. his hands stay clutched around your thighs like he’s anchoring himself to you. and when he finally lifts his head, face glistening, that crooked smile of his is pure sin wrapped in sweetness.
when he finally looks up, his face glistening, his smile is wicked and sweet. “see?” he purrs. “you learn so much better when i teach you like this.”
you can’t speak, just nod, your body spent, your brain a mush.
“next time,” chris says, gently pulling your panties back into place, “we’ll leave the books alone. i’ve got a better way to make it stay with you.”

Excerpts:
"The convenience of instant answers that LLMs provide can encourage passive consumption of information, which may lead to superficial engagement, weakened critical thinking skills, less deep understanding of the materials, and less long-term memory formation [8]. The reduced level of cognitive engagement could also contribute to a decrease in decision-making skills and in turn, foster habits of procrastination and "laziness" in both students and educators [13].
Additionally, due to the instant availability of the response to almost any question, LLMs can possibly make a learning process feel effortless, and prevent users from attempting any independent problem solving. By simplifying the process of obtaining answers, LLMs could decrease student motivation to perform independent research and generate solutions [15]. Lack of mental stimulation could lead to a decrease in cognitive development and negatively impact memory [15]. The use of LLMs can lead to fewer opportunities for direct human-to-human interaction or social learning, which plays a pivotal role in learning and memory formation [16].
Collaborative learning as well as discussions with other peers, colleagues, teachers are critical for the comprehension and retention of learning materials. With the use of LLMs for learning also come privacy and security issues, as well as plagiarism concerns (7]. Yang et al. [17] conducted a study with high school students in a programming course. The experimental group used ChatGPT to assist with learning programming, while the control group was only exposed to traditional teaching methods. The results showed that the experimental group had lower flow experience, self-efficacy, and learning performance compared to the control group.
Academic self-efficacy, a student's belief in their "ability to effectively plan, organize, and execute academic tasks"
', also contributes to how LLMs are used for learning [18]. Students with
low self-efficacy are more inclined to rely on Al, especially when influenced by academic stress
[18]. This leads students to prioritize immediate Al solutions over the development of cognitive and creative skills. Similarly, students with lower confidence in their writing skills, lower
"self-efficacy for writing" (SEWS), tended to use ChatGPT more extensively, while higher-efficacy students were more selective in Al reliance [19]. We refer the reader to the meta-analysis [20] on the effect of ChatGPT on students' learning performance, learning perception, and higher-order thinking."
"Recent empirical studies reveal concerning patterns in how LLM-powered conversational search systems exacerbate selective exposure compared to conventional search methods. Participants engaged in more biased information querying with LLM-powered conversational search, and an opinionated LLM reinforcing their views exacerbated this bias [63]. This occurs because LLMS are in essence "next token predictors" that optimize for most probable outputs, and thus can potentially be more inclined to provide consonant information than traditional information system algorithms [63]. The conversational nature of LLM interactions compounds this effect, as users can engage in multi-turn conversations that progressively narrow their information exposure. In LLM systems, the synthesis of information from multiple sources may appear to provide diverse perspectives but can actually reinforce existing biases through algorithmic selection and presentation mechanisms.
The implications for educational environments are particularly significant, as echo chambers can fundamentally compromise the development of critical thinking skills that form the foundation of quality academic discourse. When students rely on search systems or language models that systematically filter information to align with their existing viewpoints, they might miss opportunities to engage with challenging perspectives that would strengthen their analytical capabilities and broaden their intellectual horizons. Furthermore, the sophisticated nature of these algorithmic biases means that a lot of users often remain unaware of the information gaps in their research, leading to overconfident conclusions based on incomplete evidence. This creates a cascade effect where poorly informed arguments become normalized in academic and other settings, ultimately degrading the standards of scholarly debate and undermining the educational mission of fostering independent, evidence-based reasoning."
"In summary, the Brain-only group's connectivity suggests a state of increased internal coordination, engaging memory and creative thinking (manifested as theta and delta coherence across cortical regions). The Engine group, while still cognitively active, showed a tendency toward more focal connectivity associated with handling external information (e.g. beta band links to visual-parietal areas) and comparatively less activation of the brain's long-range memory circuits. These findings are in line with literature: tasks requiring internal memory amplify low-frequency brain synchrony in frontoparietal networks [77], whereas outsourcing information (via internet search) can reduce the load on these networks and alter attentional dynamics. Notably, prior studies have found that practicing internet search can reduce activation in memory-related brain areas [831, which dovetails with our observation of weaker connectivity in those regions for Search Engine group. Conversely, the richer connectivity of Brain-only group may reflect a cognitive state akin to that of high performers in creative or memory tasks, for instance, high creativity has been associated with increased fronto-occipital theta connectivity and intra-hemispheric synchronization in frontal-temporal circuits [81], patterns we see echoed in the Brain-only condition."
"This correlation between neural connectivity and behavioral quoting failure in LLM group's participants offers evidence that:
1. Early Al reliance may result in shallow encoding.
LLM group's poor recall and incorrect quoting is a possible indicator that their earlier essays were not internally integrated, likely due to outsourced cognitive processing to the LLM.
2. Withholding LLM tools during early stages might support memory formation.
Brain-only group's stronger behavioral recall, supported by more robust EEG connectivity, suggests that initial unaided effort promoted durable memory traces, enabling more effective reactivation even when LLM tools were introduced later.
Metacognitive engagement is higher in the Brain-to-LLM group.
Brain-only group might have mentally compared their past unaided efforts with tool-generated suggestions (as supported by their comments during the interviews), engaging in self-reflection and elaborative rehearsal, a process linked to executive control and semantic integration, as seen in their EEG profile.
The significant gap in quoting accuracy between reassigned LLM and Brain-only groups was not merely a behavioral artifact; it is mirrored in the structure and strength of their neural connectivity. The LLM-to-Brain group's early dependence on LLM tools appeared to have impaired long-term semantic retention and contextual memory, limiting their ability to reconstruct content without assistance. In contrast, Brain-to-LLM participants could leverage tools more strategically, resulting in stronger performance and more cohesive neural signatures."

Hey peeps I think I'm actually not a dude :D
A day ago (i think it was) I made a post with a poll asking if I was a guy bc I was stressing abt gender 😪
This isn't the first time I've questioned that
I've also questioned if I was wrong abt being nonbinary since I came out
But no
I am nonbinary.
It alwayssss circles back to me being nonbinary 😭
When will I learn? >:[
Anyway,
I just don't like my chest :p
That's literally it.
And upon doing research, I realized that the dysphoria from that is causing me to question, a lot more than I should be.
Sooooo
I'm ordering a binder rn LMFAO
...problem solved me thinks?
LOL
okay bye pplll I love you allllllll smmm <333
#Charlie's things#Hehehe :]#Oh also I just want everyone to know that realizing ur trans is just as valid as realizing ur not#Its not and never should be “I am this and forever will be”#NO#Part of being human is understanding that labels change WITH US#Not AGAINST US#it should be always “this is what I'm identifying with in this stage of my life”#That's valid#That's normal#And that's okay#It shows strength and character if your labels change it does not show weakness#Okay ily :]#Drink water!!!#< just in case u needed a reminder hehe

Can u do Satan and maybe even some of the Niflheim demons with an MC who suffers with depression please?
WHB demons w/ depressed reader
⟡ Masterlist ⟡
A/N: Not to be the one self-advertising, buut... Some time back I posted this comfort post w even more (and some of these) characters! ^^ So you can technically read that as part 2 of this :3
Characters: Satan, Belphegor, Beleth, Gusion, Agares
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───

Satan, having depressions himself, knows exactly how to approach you and what to do when you need some
Though, if you both happen to have an episode at the same time, the country as if stops
So all Gehenna nobles kinda always try to keep both of you happy so neither of you have to feel bad
This will probably work only about half of the time, but it's the thought that counts
Oh and Satan enstates a mandatory therapy hour at the end of each day where you talk, fight, scream or whatever else you need to do to be okay
༺☆༻

As much asleep as Belphie is, he will actually be the first one from his nobles to notice something's off when you're having an episode
For his nobles it is natural that they get tired thanks to his energy, but with you, he feels like it's something else
So he'll actually force himself to stay awake to talk to you
He can't really help much, but if you're having nightmares while staying the night with him, he'll use his powers to change them into nice dreams
Also it's safe to say that his bed is available for you to escape reality at anytime
༺☆༻

After Belphie notices, Beleth takes little to no time to catch on too
He'll let you stay in his king's bed, but hell also tend to you like he does to his king
(Actually, I wrote about this in that comfort post ^^)
You might think that he would be a bit annoyed to now have double the work load, but it's the opposite, actually
I hc Beleth's love language to be acts of service so this is something that makes him fullfilled to the max
Also there's this kinda dark pleasure from having you be fully reliant on him during that time
༺☆༻

Good boy Gusion tries to solve everything like a math problem
So he'll bury himself in psychology books to figure out what is wrong with your brain until he's found the answer
And he won't take on any other task until he's sure you're okay, which in turn makes other demons wonder whether he is okay
I don't really think they would medicate mental illnesses, so sadly, Gus Gus will have to go to the human world to get some antidepressives for you
And there will most likely be some demons who would question his decision
Once he's back, he'll probably learn that your episode is over and that his trip was for nothing, but hey, at least he has them for the next time
༺☆༻

(Might be ooc bc I missed his event due to school T.T)
Agares won't really notice
To him, your change in behavior is you simply getting used to the boredom of your place next to him
It's okay, that's nromal when you have everything you've ever wished for
And if there's really something going on, Vassago is your servant for a reson
When your episode is over, he will notice how you bounced back to yourself, but won't really ask

More asks incoming muahaha.
Was a priesthood just the only available option to awade rural life or there were other reasons for Euegenes' career choice? Also what were his relationships with religion way back and now: is it just fear of divine reprocutions for his sexuality or does he actually find some solace in it?
Aaaand logical follow up to these: has he ever considered leaving the church?
Thank you both!
So Eugene is from Donegal which has been referred to as the forgotten county, very rural and very poor at least back then.(also Ireland -v v catholic) Eugene's family made their living from farming, and Eugene was not well suited for that life at all. He used to spend evenings secretly poring over fashion catalogues, and running down the farm radio battery listening to music and imagining what it would be like to live in the city. He dreamed of being something creative, like an architect (or a fashion designer shh) but that was a pipe dream for him.
He didn't get on with his rough and gruff dad or brothers, very much a mommas boy. He had a sister who became a nun, and his mum encouraged him in his faith and in school, thinking he might also join the church, or at least have a chance some other place. His dedication caught the attention of the priest, who took Eugene under his wing and almost acted as a father to him, eventually paying for his secondary education and encouraging him to go to seminary. Eugene was sincere in his desire to become a priest, I think God, and the church were a comfort to him in what was otherwise a pretty lonely and ostracised childhood. I think also for him being a priest is like… well I can't have sex so that solves the gay problem, buried in the ground, perfect. The longing slips through sometimes tho :’), who could he have been, what has he missed. And obviously Cliff happens.
He totally considers leaving the church in the future, but I've not thought that far ahead so nothing is concrete. He'll always believe in God and always want to share that love and faith with others, but he does feel quite trapped within the Catholic Church. Especially so i think during the aids crisis, being vocal and helping out would raise questions and maybe put his position at risk but also …ouch. U know.

Imagine the political showdown between Nesta as High Lady of Dusk and Rhys, High Lord of Night. Rhys may lose one of his cities, depending on where the border of Dusk is drawn. He will certainly lose land, likely Illyria, which I theorize because of its location and Nesta’s matehood to Cassian.
SJM also made sure to introduce young Illyrian Balthazar, who by all accounts is a smart male interested in politics and seems to be a feminist (and by all accounts I mean the small glimpse we see). Nesta is going to need more allies, and she may not be able to rely on Cassian as she discovers Dusk/takes Illyria.
This poses questions that we don’t know the answer to. What does reawakening a court entail? What original land did Dusk occupy? Will all original land become Dusk again?
I know a lot of people theorize that the island is Dusk, but it’s important to remember that Dusk may have encompassed more than that. And the maps of the current Night Court shows how outlandishly larger it is than other courts. Rhys has also made comments about how the island doesn’t belong to them and is often shown to be at odds with Ilyria.
Regardless, Rhys stands to lose military power, which puts him in a weaker position. So what happens next? Does Nesta and Cassian lead an Illyrian uprising together? Does Illyria rebel on its own? Is there a war?
And then there’s what happens after Dusk is established:
Now you’ve got an even amount of courts. Who knows how all eight of them will make decisions, but that means other courts will want to have some kind of a relationship with Nesta.
Now Nesta never has to listen to Rhys again. And Rhys isn’t an idiot. He knows he has made her angry and has seen her trauma. He wasn’t able to control her power before she returned some of it. As High Lady of Dusk, she will be more powerful. Can he withstand that? If they fight, does he believe he can win?
Now Nesta has land for whoever becomes a part of her court. I’m guessing Valkyries and Illyrians but who knows who else. That’s a lot of people to feed, trade negotiations to create, infrastructure to build, military operations to put in place. The Night Court is a physical divider between Illyria and the rest of the courts, but the island is ideal for establishing trade routes (and winnowing probably solves some problems).
Anyway, say what you will about Nesta and Rhys but they’re both sharply intelligent people. I would love to see more acerbic fighting between them with Feyre and Cassian on the sidelines. And I need to see Cassian actually stand by his mate!

“One More to Love Chapter 8!” we all chant in unison
💖wip it good💖
Haha! 😂 I had a bet with myself about what the first ask would be and, well, it wasn't a fair bet all things considered 😂
Here's a nice long one for my patient readers, and tagging @theresthesnitch specifically because I haven't shared this with her either 😔
There’s a ringing—the kettle, Sirius thinks numbly—shrieking, shrill, drowning out the voices around him until they sound like they're underwater and maybe he's underwater, too, actually, because he can't breathe and his vision’s gone a bit fucked and that blasted ringing won't stop and he feels his magic sparking at his fingertips because he'll make it stop if it's- “Padfoot, hey!" James has both hands on Sirius’s face and he's holding a little tighter than is comfortable and he's shaking him, and Sirius has come up for air in short, panting exhales. His mother is dead. Dead. Like, dead dead. Tapestry dead. Official. Huh. A weight settles on his shoulders, smothering and hot like a wet blanket in a fire (he and James got up to some dumb fucking shit without Moony at Hogwarts, he's well aware) as he realizes he's Lord Black now. The Family is his to run, or destroy. Morgana's matted minge. His brother's face is grim, and probably looks unexpressive to all but Sirius (and Kingsley, he supposes). He's stoic, but there's a flicker of justice lurking behind his silver eyes, at war with the sour sting of pain at losing a parent. While Sirius was an active disappointment to his mother (and did nothing at all to correct that after a few fruitless years), she and Regulus…were usually fairly civil, even with the whole Beta thing and the whole Kingsley thing. Regulus got treated to quite a few years of Walburga’s favor once Sirius fell out of it, and though they were by no means a loving family, she was still family. Blood. But Sirius knows better than to draw any attention to Regulus’s emotions in the presence of others, so he sweeps his questions and empathy under a metaphoric rug and straightens his spine. “Guess I'm to plan a funeral then." “Padfoot-" Remus begins, but Sirius shrugs off his questioning hand. “Not entirely sure about the whole no body thing, though. Bit worried she's going to haunt us, yeah?" The look Kingsley gives him would be chilling, if Sirius wasn't riding a weird combination of mania and adrenaline. “Not going to be an issue." "Well that's one problem solved,” Sirius says with a shrug. He'd consider offing himself if his harpy of a mother had unlimited access to him as a fucking ghost. No thanks. "Pad-” "What? It was valid,” Sirius defends, rolling his eyes at James. Honestly. "Never planned a funeral do before, and Circe knows Walburga didn't hold one for Orion or uncle Alphard, so-” His voice catches a little, still plagued by the fresh knowledge of what happened to Alphard, how it's all swirling together with the reality of his life and Regulus's and the life he'll never be able to create, and- “So I'll just wing it, then. Can't be too hard." Shove it down, deep, deep down, deal with it maybe later, maybe never, that was Sirius's way.

Three things I would add:
The Byers family lives in a nicer house and is seemingly able to afford newer/nicer small items (new-looking clothes, brand-name maple syrup), but I don't think that they have do-whatever-you-want-and-never-worry-about-the-consequences money. Even if Joyce got a large sum of money from the government and bought that house, or is able to cover the rent and other necessities entirely out of her telemarketer earnings, there are signs of financial strain in S4: Jonathan's unrepaired/unreplaced car, Jonathan's choice of community college (rather than a four-year school closer to home), the fact that none of the kids have ever flown back to Hawkins when Mike is able to fly to California, the fact that (while their clothes are new) Angela and her friends and even Argyle have fancier, flashier, and more elaborately accessorized outfits. And it's possible that they're only able to live in that house because the government gives them a stipend or owns the house and lets them stay there. Which of course means that Joyce's earnings can go farther, but it also means their housing situation is in jeopardy if Owens gets replaced by a less generous guy or the government decides it can weather some poor woman with a history of mental illness trying to expose them after all. (Or if a faction of the government just decides to kill them, which canonically does happen in S4.) So I don't think Joyce is in a position to quit working so she can homeschool El. Jonathan not having a part-time, probably minimum-wage job isn't comparable (especially when his lack of income is probably offset by the lack of expense from not repairing/replacing his car).
Joyce is obviously an intelligent, hardworking, and caring person, but I don't think she's well-equipped to be the main educator of a child with complex special needs (especially if she was trying to do it while also having a full-time job). She has no training in that area and (to me) she seems distracted and depressed at the beginning of S4. She's been through three seasons worth of trauma, culminating in witnessing Hopper's death, and her life was very hard even before Will was taken. She cares about all three kids, but she does not have a strong handle on what's going on with any of them, especially when none of them want to tell her (or, really, anyone) about their problems. Hopper, another adult with a full-time job and serious emotional baggage, also ran into problems while teaching El one-on-one.
I think the questionable approach to El's education in S4 does make a lot of sense in the context of how little support any character gets in the face of bullying or academic challenges throughout the show. Most of the main younger teens and many of the main older teens get bullied at school, but there's never a question of them leaving. Even Joyce and Jonathan, who are aware of and upset about Will being bullied in S1/S2, don't seem to think of it as a problem that can be solved that way. Actually, I think that teacher confronting Angela about the diorama is the only time we see a kid get in trouble for bullying on the show? As for academics, this is an environment where failing (or getting a low passing grade) in a class is viewed as disappointing or embarrassing or (in concert with physical/psychological symptoms) a cause for concern, but not something that calls for aggressive intervention. It's sink or swim.
That being said: by 1986, there were federal laws in place requiring that students with special needs had the right to public education (not private or home-schooling) that could accommodate their needs. I think the teachers at the school officially know she has some learning/emotional challenges (at the very least, her dad died recently and she's adjusting to a new family) and cut her some slack (the teacher doesn't correct her about doing a project on Hopper instead of a famous person and scolds Angela for saying something). It's clearly not enough, but it's something.
(The out-of-show explanation is probably that El being taught at home by an adult would have felt repetitive and been harder to derive conflict from. They also would have had to shoot separate scenes of Will doing something at school. Which means that they would've had to come up for something to Will to do at school besides blend in and worry about El. Which might've been interesting, but I don't think the show made a lot of time for quiet, subtle beats like that in S4. But, more charitably: I think Will and El's relationship is going to be important so they needed to show them together.)
ok, one thing I don't understand about s4 is sending El to high school. I get it was for Angela and plot and all that but LOGICALLY El has never been to primary/elementary or middle school. Owens definitely pulled some strings to get her in. She consistently gets bad grades. She even says that Joyce said that El is getting better with her spelling and her maths, but we know El is nowhere near high school level. Why didn't Joyce home school her and just have El join a few social groups, like sport or art or something like that, so she could still socialise but she wouldn't be forced to try and perform well in school, especially next to Will who has consistently been a good student for years and was best friends with the two kids in his grade who were the best of the best at academics in their grade (Mike and Dustin, Lucas I'm not sure about). Owens provided them with a lot and continues to help with money to the point Jonathan doesn't need a job at all anymore. Joyce has a telemarketer job which I can't imagine back then paid well, so why didn't she between work just home school El? Hop's way of helping El with schoolwork (when they weren't fighting or yelling at each other) was actually proving effective and she learnt quite a bit from him and TV.
Idk, I just think it's unnecessarily cruel to put El, after everything she's been through, straight into high school. Will was bullied a lot just for who he was. Maybe El herself did ask to go to school so she could feel normal, but school was a stressful, tense, and awful place for her. Will, while having no friends there, was relatively left alone. Jonathan for the first time ever made a good friend. The changing of schools was good for those two, but in the end, Will was the only person who saw how bad it really was for El. The teachers made no effort.
High school is a nightmare enough as it is for most people. Lucas joins the basketball team so he can try and make school good for himself for once, even tho now too, Mike and Dustin are left alone. It just still seems so weird that Joyce and Owens thought it was a good idea to put El straight into high school with only one person around to support her.

Lan Wangji has always certainly been trying to protect Wei Wuxian#it took him a long time to figure how to successfully do that though#rereading the books rn and noticing theres a lot of instances that could be read as lwj being frustrated over his inability to protect wwx#like he seemed ready to cry when wwx went missing for a while and then came back with the cursed leg#lwj has always been great at protecting wwx from physical threats (ex: waterborn abyss) but had no idea how to protect him from himself#meanwhile wwx has always been instictually good at saving lwj from both#like I'm 100% lwj would've become like Jiang Cheng if wwx hadn't snapped him out of the blindly following authority thing#and also like... 15 y/o lwj wasnt happy with his life. he was lonely and stressed and literally signing up to be flogged whenever he goofed#wwx is who allowed lwj to grow up by showing him what it was like to actually be a kid (shown in story whenever lwj gets drunk)#he led lwj to having a more flexible mindset. and it both let lwj relax and set lwj up to be a better parent#looking into lwj's dynamic with the juniors- he lets them break a fuck ton of the petty rules and encourages them to question authority#he also teaches them to not be married to any one meathod of problem solving#wwx is also able to save lwj from his own stubbornness#ex: carrying lwj when he broke his leg. getting lwj to cough up bad blood. getting lwj to keep the rabbits#wwx also tends to give lwj the words he has trouble saying himself. helps him communicate#wwx also protects lwj in fights a lot but thats narratively less important#except the various times wwx puts himself in danger to help lwj. those times are what made it so lwj could never move on from wwx#like with the cave incident#or when wwx helped surpress the arm instead of using the chaos to escape cloud recesses#tldr i guess: i think this fandom tends to treat lwj being the best like its natural to him when really wwx accidentaly rewired his brain#I'm looking directly at fanfic writers who act like the Lans would've treated wwx better than the Jiangs#lwj had to do so much work and self reflection post meeting wwx to be the way he is. he is not the sole product of the Lan teachings

Dis-like-Dysentery
I have a lot of very specific headcanons about Auradon Prep, and one of them is the fact that Jay is both a Smart Guy, and also chronically incapable of turning in assignments on time. For. Reasons.
this might be about one of those reasons.
+
Carlos looks up from his plate as Jay wanders over. “Dude, where were you? We started eating without you.”
“Talking to a teacher. I submitted an assignment wrong, or something.”
Carlos nods. He’s got a fork dangling from one hand, and there’s a leaf stuck in his hair. Sunlit from behind, Jay’s pretty sure that he’s the prettiest boy on this side of the barrier. “Oh, man. Was it Demorra? She’s super strict about the rules, especially for the online stuff. I could’ve helped you figure it out bro, you don’t have to get through her bureaucratic shit on your own.”
Jay sets his tray down on the opposite side of the table. “Nah. It was Williams.”
Carlos frowns. “The international lit teacher? Really?”
They’ve been reading through Jay’s lit assignments together. Auradon expects them to type up all of their homework, so he’s been getting by with the hacked dictation program on his laptop and locking himself in the bathroom to read his essays out loud into the program with the minimum of background noise.
There’s a peer writing tutor who does proofreading two nights a week for free, but Jay’s not gonna take his shitty essays in to her when he’s pretty sure he’ll just get laughed right back out of the student study room for the giant default font Carlos set on his computer.
It doesn’t exactly make reading his own assignments easier, but it doesn’t make it worse either, so they’re calling it functional for now. Auradon Prep is all about “helping students embrace their unique academic talents”, so Carlos and Evie are both being pulled for more advanced classes, which is great for them, and terrible for Jay’s essays because it’s seriously starting to cut into their free time.
That, and the trouble they’ve been getting up to after hours.
The assistant gym teacher still hasn’t figured out who to blame for French braiding all the climbing ropes together.
“She couldn’t read my handwriting.”
“Fuck.”
That’s about the shape of it. Handwritten assignments are few and far between, but Jay can’t bullshit his way through all of them. “Haha, yeah.”
Carlos thunks his head down onto the table. “Ugh. Fuck. I can make you a handwriting font on the computer, but that’ll make in-class assignments worse if you can’t keep it up.”
“Yup.”
He sits up. There’s a dent on his forehead from pressing it into the table. “Eat.”
“Not hungry,” Jay says as cheerfully as he can manage. It’s not gonna fool Carlos, but he’s not gonna show weakness in front of the royal rabble. “Anyway, we’re not going to the honor board. She’s willing to settle it with some sorta evaluation. Have you heard of dyslexia before?”
Carlos blinks. “Dyslexia? No. I mean. It’s gotta be dis from like, disinterested, disintegrating, some sort of anti? Or else it’s dys from like, dysentery. Some sort of illness, maybe. Lex has gotta be from lexicon, lexicography. Something to do with either anti-words or a words illness? Does she think you’re sick of words?”
Jay shrugs. “She said it’s why I’m bad at reading. Wants me to do an assessment so she can know what’s going on.”
Carlos already has his phone out. He’s typing with one hand, the other one curled around his plate in a defensive hunch that’s almost casual. “Huh. How’s that going for her so far?”
Jay snorts. “Fab. Nah, she didn’t do it yet. It’s a whole special test that she’s gotta send me down to the psych for.”
“Can you reject it?”
“If I wanna meet with the honor board and explain why I apparently have great handwriting, but only when they can’t see me do the assignments.”
“Fuck.”
“Yeah. At least she was cool about it.”
Carlos groans. “Your handwriting sucks, dude. You’re not sick of writing, you’re just— your handwriting sucks.”
“Yeah, and my fucking reading comprehension. I—“ Jay cuts himself off abruptly as the shadow of more people falls across their lunch table. “Hey, guys.”
Mal sets her lunch tray down on Jay’s left side, leaving Ben the spot on his right. Evie’s not eating with them today. They have other friends in theory, but between Doug’s science club buddies and Carlos’s general disinterest in socializing with other humans, they didn’t bother picking a table large enough for anyone else.
“Sorry,” Ben apologizes, even as he’s nudging his shoulder against Jay’s. It’s nice not being the only tall one sometimes. “I couldn’t help overhearing.”
Jay leans back into the contact. “We were talking out loud, dude. It happens. You got any hot tips for the stupid assessment I’ve gotta do later?”
“Have you tried being better?” Mal suggests. “I find that cheating works great. I could find you a spell to let one of us borrow your hands for a few hours, and so long as you can tell us what you want to write, we can control the muscles and get better handwriting than your usual chicken scratch special.”
“Hey.”
“Would that work if you can’t see the paper?” Ben asks curiously.
Mal frowns. “No. Not unless I modify the spell to possess your eyes too.”
Jay represses a shudder. “Thanks, but no thanks, M. I like my eyes in one piece.”
Carlos is scrolling rapidly on his phone, hanging half-over the table in an attempt to get closer to the three of them. “Dude, dyslexia is a brain thing that affects how you process visual input of words— aw, shit.”
Bad. That’s the bad-news tone. Jay’s heart drops traitorously into his stomach, which suddenly isn’t feeling the tater tots on his lunch tray. “What?”
Carlos shakes his head. “Nothing too bad. Just, I think Williams is right. You’ve said you’re shit at reading fast cause the words all look the same, right? Like, you can’t scan to identify them, you’ve gotta sound each one out.”
Jay smashes a tater tot with the side of his fork. The destruction doesn’t make his gut feel any better. It’s not that he’s mad, it’s just— he doesn’t want to do this. Analyzing his brain sucks. He did the whole week of required therapy that the student disciplinary council required after the stuff with Mal’s mom, and he’s so fucking done with Auradon grown-ups pretending to understand why his head’s fucked up. “Yeah, so?”
Carlos waves the phone at him. “So that’s what this is. You’ve got a brain disorder.”
“We can fix it, right?”
He wiggles a hand back and forth. “Ehh. Kinda. There’s techniques to make it easier, but it’s sorta like— your brain is wired for AC power input, and words are DC. It’s a misalignment. We can make an adaptor, but we can’t rip out your brain wiring.”
“I could,” Mal offers. “I love doing illegal magic.”
#my fic#in my heart Jay is both dyslexic and INCREDIBLY good at processing auditory instructions#to the point that nobody at AP notices the dyslexia for like. Six months.#until eventually someone questions why his in-class handwriting is TERRIBLE#but his assignments produced out of class are legible#(the reason is a combination of dictation software and Carlos acting as a scribe)#the scribe setup is actually good for both of them#Jay gets to have somebody else handwriting his assignments#and Carlos gets enrichment by mentally doing the homework for two sets of classes#he DOES refuse to solve the problems on Jay’s homework#he’s transcribing the answers. Not doing the homework.#the ethical lines these kids come up with might be more like zigzags but at least they’re consistent

Bonus:
Why open source while very good, is not always the best fit for every project for reasons which are not monetary:
It can create cultural problems that nobody is willing to solve or deal with, which are the entire origin of every problem on the list I just posted above.
To anybody else reading if this post gets out of hand:
whats wrong with linux?
I’m not answering this again.
#Linux#Open Source#OpenSource#Software#Programming#GNU/Linux#No I will not answer your questions or respond to you#If you want answers out of me#improve your software#and actually solve the problems in question#and then we can talk#until then#I will consider Linux a very good OS provided you do not value your personal time#Or an exceptional hobby OS#It was written to be inside a 1980's mainframe computer#Do not be shocked when taking it out of its natural environment produces problems#If you have to RTFM or man-pages to solve a problem that's solvable without these things on any other OS#You have already failed

backing up my files & just stumbled upon a very old journal entry (september 4th 2015) that is literally the biggest egg-in-denial copium ive ever seen. godbless
#but i don't have any masculine personality traits - for what it's worth in a patriarchal society where gender is the very fabric of social#existence#well naturally if i could be a man i'd do that in a heartbeat. but i can't pretend#i'd be a convincing specimen of manhood#17..... oh baby. i was right though....#“oh what if i just want to be trans to be interesting” beloved .#well !#it's so funny. it's really so funny#i barely remember writing this in the first place#fascinating that ever since day fucking ONE the problem was#it's true though. like i was right. but you Can be a failed man instead of a failed woman and it's actually preddy fun . so !#there's this “psychology test” by françoise dolto which - apologies - only works in french#but basically as an exercise to evaluate gender among young children#the therapist tells a child to pretend/perform a gesture accompanying each word#and one of the words is “tire !”. which you could translate as either “pull[on something]” or “shoot[something]”#and the conclusions were that girl childrens overwhelmingly pantomimed pulling on a rope while boy children mimicked shooting a gun#and my father smugly told me that he had done this experiment on me at around the same age mentioned by dolto and that i#always pantomimed pulling on something which in his eyes settled the question entirely. well#maybe the future is a world where boys don't care about guns huh. maybe i was destined to be a weird ass catboy this entire time. huh!#huh the order of these tags is all messed up. solve my jigsaw puzzle boy

In your Au, how does Silco and Jayce relationship develope? I don't think he will ever like him or care much about him but does at any time ends up "approving" him or "respecting" him?
Like, "i dont like this Piltite but he loves my son and has proven that he will fight for him so i will tolerate him"
"A useful idiot" does very much remain Silco's assessment of Jayce but the nuance of it changes a lot over the years.
At first a lot of Silco's dislike does come from his inherit distrust of anyone Topside but also the fact that he watches as those in Piltover flock to Jayce and really raise him up as the source of Hextech while ignoring Viktor and Jayce getting a little caught up in it (not as much as he does in canon but still). But he also watches Jayce time and time again defend Vikto's importance to Hextech whenever someone gets a bit too overt in trying to discredit him even when Jayce doesn't realise Silco (or Viktor or anyone else from the family) is around. And Jayce when pushed can get a bit bullish so has probably cut investors off / refused to give a powerful contact a better deal to use the gates because of their comments around Viktor. And Silco does respect it. Viktor could do far worse than Jayce in Silco's mind but also he isn't about to cut Jayce a break because as far as he's concerned someone needs to keep the boy's ego in check.
And then, for reason I'm still not fully sure about (and will probably change depending on what works best for the thing I'm currently writing), Jayce gets tricked onto the Council to oust Heimerdinger (most if any of the other councilers haven't realised Silco and Vander are Viktor's parents at this point). And Jayce's usefulness to Silco specifically becomes so much more. As much as Silco wishes he would, Jayce won't actually be a puppet councellor to him but Jayce does also want to improve the lives of those in Zaun (he wants to improve the lives of everyone under the Council's rule but he can see Zaun needs more than Piltover) and he will at least listen to what Silco's saying even if he will independently verify it before believing it. There is likely many times where a couple hours after a Council meeting where Silco has raised a concern that got brushed off afterwards Jayce basically crashes into his office because "you were right!" and is adament that no They (The Council but more generally a Collective City) Will Fix It rather than Silco and Zaun having to find a solution on their own. He's still naive in Silco's eyes because Jayce refuses to give up on the idea that the two city halves can work together and live equally (so he isn't giving Silco an independent Zaun no matter how Silco tries to present it) but trying to claw support and money spend out of Piltover to get Zaun on a more level playing field becomes a bit easier with him also arguing for it. He's also team pro-Shimmer (and pro letting Zaun profit off the thing they created) so makes it a lot harder for Piltover to eitherr criminalise / take over it from Silco.
He's probably the most useful of the partner's of Silco's children for Silco. But still not the favourite (Ekko is) and Silco will never stop pointing out the bits that he's still unimpressed with (Jayce has asccepted that that's all he's getting from Silco he's used to it probably is good for his ego).
#Arcane#Zaun Family#Jayce Talis#Silco Arcane#Ramblings of the Goddess#Q and A with the Goddess#Anon question#Jayce is never allowed to retire from the council in this verse#Silco won't let him#There have been a few Family Excursions#when Jayce is visiting Zaun with Viktor#that is actually just Silco pointing him at a problem that needs to be solved#He also makes Vander's job as like Zaun Union Rep so much easier#because okay you want to escalate this matter to the Council#sure lets tell Jayce Talis about the unsafe working conditions#you have people working in#no the fact that they're from Zaun so used to it#won't work on him funny that

My. Class. Won't. Start. And it's been aFUCKING HOUR
#they always do thissa jfc they send us on break and all of a sudden everyone and their mother has questions about the hw#that just CANNOT WAIT until the end of the class#and i fucking can't like brother people who DON'T have questions are just stuck here#and then we have to stay extra time at the end of class so the teacher can talk about everything he had planned for that day#brother some people work after class. some have to go home to like 20 different chores to do and would appreciate an extra half hour for it#it drives me insane bc they aren't even efficient with it. it's not like it's an hour long bc 200 people go ask stuff#it's just like 20 guys that have a 10/20 minute conversation with the teacher about a specific exercise¿??#and maybe I'm just being a hater here but the times I've needed to ask shit i usually FIRST make sure my numbers are correct#and also that I'm not misunderstanding any theory#and then if it's still not working after many tries and i couldn't find help by any other means#(like someone who has solved a similar thing online and can give me some ideas 4 a different approach)#THEN i go to the teacher and tell them how I've been thinking about the problem and the entire convo usually just goes#'i'm doing this' 'hmmm actually i would think about ut this other way. pay more attention to this part' and then I LEAVE#i leave and i think about it all over again by myself i do not ask the teacher to solve every last bit for me for the next 10 minutes#and it's not like I'm against people asking theory questions bc like some shit IS hard to grasp and it's cool if u need it re explained to u#but it's like some of these people don't even TRY like... oh.. yk.. ACTUALLY STUDYING?#reviewing your notes and actually thinking about the problems for a minute b4 deciding u just can't solve it??#and honestly it would all be nice and good if they did that during the last hour of class bc then it wouldn't be my business anymore tbh#but it's fucking up my class time and now I'm hungry and fucking upset bc i can't leaveeeeeeee
