gonna be real, i literally don't give a shit whether charlie dies or not. he's only going to be replaced by his bald son and the monarchy will continue as it always has.
what i do care about is how this is going to be all over the news for the foreseeable even though tens of thousands of people are dying in a genocide our government is helping to fund, how people in our own country are suffering because of the cost of living crisis and the tories practically trying to tear the nhs (and many other public services) down.
and if he does die? we'll have to watch as this 'no money for the nhs' is funnelled into another state funeral and coronation. forgive me if i don't participate in the celebrations

my most bitter proposal for a season 2 fix it is that the crew refuses to let ed back on the boat (as they should) so stede throws a tantrum and ultimatums that if ed stays so will he but the crew just take him up on that.
they make their inn in the wreckage of anne + marys house and the crew goes off and continues to have fun hijinks with izzy as the ship parent

If there is anyone left who doesn't see this useless, lying, power-hungry cunt for what he is, I despair.
Fucking... 'stopping the violence will lead to violence'...
His entire argument is that if Israel stops indiscriminately bombing Palestine, Hamas might have enough time between dodging bombs to attack Israel again. Oh, and that a ceasefire would stop Hamas from releasing hostages (despite the fact that Israel rejected the request for a prisoner exchange including Palestinians that are being held indefinitely without charge).
Hamas aren't blameless here - the initial attack on Israel was monstrous, make no mistake. At no point should civilians have been targeted, and it is clear that many people were subjected to horrific cruelty during the attack. But while not justifying it, the cause for the attack lies directly in the hands of Israel's leadership. Decades of blockading Gaza, allowing only the barest trickle of aid to enter the area and preventing people from leaving. Constant harassment of Palestinians, often resulting in deadly violence. And direct funding of violent extremist groups to sabotage chances for peaceful resolution. Even if Israel completely switched tack and actively worked towards peace and integration, the wounds are so deep that such a process would take a long time.
But Starmer's solution to this is to say that the fighting has to continue, with the implication that it shouldn't end until Hamas has been eradicated. While senior figures in Israel have said that they consider all Gazans to be Hamas, and have been consistently targeting civilians since this current phase of the conflict began. And Netanyahu has actively called for genocide. I fully believe that even if all members of Hamas formally surrendered and gave themselves up, the bombings would continue uninterrupted.
In a way, Starmer is could be right. If there isn't a ceasefire, the violence in Gaza will eventually stop. Because the people who might have retaliated against this horror will be as dead as the civilians who didn't want to fight.
Can't commit violence against the dead. Certainly not if there's no one left to mourn them.

every time i research possibilities for me moving abroad, i want to fall down a flight of stairs or smash my head against the pavement. i'm going to transport back in time and tell myself to get a degree in something useful, because at this point i'm not even joking when i say the four years i've spent at uni have affected me in no positive ways whatsoever.

Kaksjdhd I'm so sorry I definitely meant to send that Linda and Paul ask to someone else but my drunk ass can't do anything right. Btw you're totally right and that was a good point. So maybe my drunk ass picked the right person after all. Or maybe my hand eye coordination struggles after the fourth shot of vodka. Both can be true. Anyways, I also liked the comments. Although tbh I don't personally like John and Paul, it just doesn't make me wet the way it does for other people (I don't mean sexually I just mean in general). But I wonder about Paul romanticizing that relationship. Paul did more or less say that Linda was or should be a god. Which is very sweet, but I think it falls into romanticizing tbh. But also the man has been through a LOT and Linda was probably at least at one point his only path to peace and joy. How do you cope with your only true hope being taken away? We would all be lucky if we coped as well as paul. I think Paul probably makes it into something beautiful, but that's also just how aging works, and how loss works. It doesn't have to be true to matter.
I figured dw vodka can do that to the best of us 😆
Tbh there was a lot of trauma attachment going on Paul's part if you consider the start of his relationship with Linda. Same as with John. All of Paul's major attachments (by major I mean romantic or semi-romantic life altering ones) were formed after he suffered major losses - John after his mother's death, Linda after/during the breakup with John/The Beatles. The fact that he married Heather so soon after Linda's death also points to it, it's just a Paul thing.
As for romanticizing, it's just human and also it's understandable for Paul to be extra respectful while talking about a dead spouse. If there was any friction in the marriage - which I highly doubt - Paul wouldn't talk about that in public and definitely wouldn't say anything his kids wouldn't want to be said about their mother. He is responsible for Linda's memory and legacy.

I've spoken briefly about this before and, again, it's usually something I leave in the little details of Charlotte's portrayal, but it's really been on my mind lately so I wanted to write out some of the prominent traits that continue to establish that, despite having gradually accumulated more experience, capital, and property over the years, Charlotte remains coded as working-class. It is crucial to both the narrative itself and her actual existence as a vessel for the primordial void, also known as Khaos. This means that she still has no ( legal ) credit cards and continues to thrift almost all her belongings, including her clothes, books, and furniture ( with the exception of shoes and appliances.) If you are someone who regularly meets up with Charlotte, you might begin to notice ( if you are perceptive ) that while she may be variably early, right on time, or show up in some unexpected state, she is rarely ever late and certainly never without a legitimate reason as to why. It is also not uncommon for Charlotte to juggle multiple jobs at the same time, and the only time she'll agree to a single job, at the exclusion of all other work is if she knows that that one job will be worth it. Related to this is the fact that Charlotte has a very hard time saying no to job offers; it's a habit ( read: stress response ) she is trying to unlearn, but it continues to be a struggle. Lastly, despite having successfully taken on leadership roles in the past, Charlotte expresses a strong dislike for being consigned to a "boss" role as she still much prefers to be hands on, in the action, at risk rather than sitting back and letting others do the work. She becomes restless if she finds herself "at the top" or in the position of too much obvious power; recall the adage about how it is lonely at the top, and how isolation is not something that the void's vessel can allow. She needs to be among people; she needs to be present to catalyze chaos. That being said, this doesn't mean that Charlotte simply allows herself to be treated or thrown away as a mere lackey or just another body, but that is still part of the struggle, isn't it?
#you'll also notice that char is very smart about the way she stores and maintains what belongings she DOES have#ie. her money her safe“houses” her work equipment#within the bounds of her control - char doesn't go out of her way to destroy or wreck her own stuff#if chaos happens then there's nothing she can do; and other people's stuff is fair game#but her own shit? she takes care of that shit best she can#it ties into the fact that she doesn't have a set or consistent sleep schedule#but for her work she will be up at the crack of dawn if needed; she will be out all night; she will be up and working days on end if needed#she also enjoys working in teams and if you've ever had to have char as a co-worker u'll know she's actually nice to work with#still untrustworthy still chaotic still annoying as fuck - but also nice#she prefers to work with equals rather than take any kind of control over others. control being the other side of the coin to chaos :')#she's also worked such a HUGE myriad of what society considers labour / “entry-level” / “unskilled” jobs...#...in order to learn from an inconspicuous position.#i could go on and on but like i said - i'll leave in the writing#i'm so proud of my chaos goblin#thinking about how at one point in her timeline she worked and played her way all the way to accidentally taking out a crime boss...#....then IMMEDIATELY did a 180 going “nope not for me” and vanished#too lonely at the top and that's no fun for this one :(#( smth smth the fact that she's just a vessel is too ingrained in her sense of self for her to actually stand out and be leader )#( smth smth even pawn-turned-queens revert back to pawns at the end of the game )#and as always - if you actually read through all this IM SO THANKFUL FOR U MWAH <3

Why does it feel like we're constantly struggling against a huge step backwards in basic workers rights and protections?
Even putting the blatant disregard for working conditions aside: one of the biggest things uniting workers in these services is that they're all striking primarily not over pay but over conditions and funding: Across the board they're saying 'Even with a full workforce, it's impossible to provide a fit for purpose service.'
The answer to that isn't to sack workers?? There's already chronically not enough staff! How would any of these services cope with bulk firing their essential staff on top of the crippling pressures they're already facing.
There's no reason to propose a policy like this other than to accelerate the digging of public services' graves.

I stayed on to do my a-levels when I turned 16 and in hindsight it made absolutely no difference to my life. Apart from making me depressed longer 😂 still ended up on the dole at the end of it. An extra shitty maths qualification would not have changed that picture beyond, AGAIN, making me even more fucking depressed

I can’t remember what book it was, but in high school while reading something, my english teacher pointed out a character adding salt to his wife’s stew without tasting it first as a sign of their failing/unhappy marriage and while I brushed it off at the time as a curtains being blue moment, it stuck with me, and now everytime I come across a character adding salt to their partner’s cooking I zero in on it like some kind of armchair psychologist.
