ATSUSHI HERE WE GO THANK YOU FOR HEARING MY PRAYERS

Favorite thing about them: HIS SELFISHNESS. It's so so delicious to explore. Can you imagine a protagonist that saves others not out of simple good will, but because of egoistic self-preservation motives? It just feels counterintuitive for me lmao, and I found it quite messed up when I first watched the anime, but now it's so compelling to explore. His whole “everything I do is in order to gain the right to live” is crazy fashinating. Because lol, that's entirely nonsensical to me! There's no such thing as “gaining the right to live”; all humans, every person in the world is inherently deserving of life. All. No exception. So there's no level of “weak” or “worthless” that would make you lose that right. The fact that's it's a vision so distant and absurd from mine, idk, it just makes it very compelling to explore? “What if there was a little fucked up guy who believed the right to live had to be earned” just sounds like a very interesting premise.

Least favorite thing about them: When I first watched the anime, I think I found him low-key annoying? I just... Don't do very well with self-deprecating people and people who complain a lot in general, I usually suffer in silence and tend to (wrongly) assume others should do the same (this probably makes me sound pretty mean, I swear I try to be understanding irl). However, it doesn't bother me as much anymore, I simply think it's more of a distinctive trait of the character that makes him multilayered and unique. As of now, I can't think of anything I don't like about him if not the fact that I wish he'd rely on Dazai and others in general a little less. I know that has to do with his lack of self-worth, so maybe it makes sense,, but as of now he feels kind of stuck. I just wish we'd see him grow more on that front.

brOTP: KYOUKA AND ATSUSHI they make me go insane. Already talked about this in the Kyouka post but just to reiterate: in my headcanon Kyouka really is the only person Atsushi feels genuine, selfless affection towards. It's very sweet. They're siblings. Kyouka's happiness is really important for Atsushi. They really do have that feeling of people who got out of an abusive environment learning what normality is supposed to be like together. I also really like how they compensate for what the other lacks, be it decisiveness and coolhead for Atsushi and empathy and positivity for Kyouka. Although plenty shipping them romantically, I really like platonic sskk and atsulucy as well.

OTP: I really like sskk eheh. I think they're neat. There's a thousand and one reasons why I find them pretty great. They're objectively the only reason why I got invested in bsd as well as the only thing that has me keep up with the franchise to this day. Right now, I feel like the one thing I really appreciate about them is how you can be the worst person in the universe and still somehow be loveable to someone. I think it's sweet. I also find it very fun and enterataining to explore their various soulmatism antics. They're both very complex and multilayered characters with something deeply wrong with how their minds work that makes them very fun to analyze both by their own and in the complexity of their relationship. Their collective story arc and canon relationship progression is extremely engaging and nice to follow, too. I love dazatsu and atsulucy as well!! Both were ships I wasn't particularly invested when I read the manga for the first time, but really grew in me in the last six months or so. I really dig akuatsulucy as well!!

Random headcanon: He really likes reading. There's some real meta-analysis to be made here I actually had written this is probably not the right place to talk about, but in a work that's all about literature, he's the character who reads.

Unpopular opinion: He's the hardest character to write / characterize. That's why people should probably go easier on other fans when they mischaracterize him. He's just very multifaceted and genuinely hard to get. I keep seeing people being like “Stop babyfying Atsushi he's an independent adult!!” then turn around to say “he can't be shipped with Dazai because there's too much unbalance of power :// [somewhat implying Atsushi can't make free decisions for himself]”, or “Stop making of Atsushi a soft baby who never did wrong in his life!!!” then turn around to say “Atsushi is the happy puppy of the agency who gets treats and pats from everyone ^^ ” like. At least to me, a lot of people's arguments sound self-contradictory all the time; but that doesn't mean people should stop having fun and characterize the characters as they like! Just, let's stop being mean to each other and try to be a little more accepting towards others' takes, shall we? And yes that also includes letting people find Atsushi annoying if they find him annoying (although like, I've NEVER found anyone call Atsushi annoying ever, so really, what remote fandom spaces is everyone visiting? Why are you looking for clothes (good takes) at the soup store (Tik/tok I assume?) ).

“Blitzo and Fizz were only friends because they grew up together” and “Fizz and Ozzie are only together because they work together” are silly arguments because like. Doesn’t that apply to every relationship? Like there are hundreds of people you can be compatible with, but never meet just because your paths never crossed. And you meet plenty of people you don’t gel with, even as a kid (*cough* Blitzo and Stolas *cough*).

I think romantic or platonic, both Fizz’s relationships developed because of luck/right place right time sure, but they also had common interests and values, and to say otherwise for either ship is a disservice. Blitzo and Fizz loved performing (even if Blitzo wasn’t very good), concerts, playing pretend, and even as adults they still manage to make each other laugh. The same could be said for Fizz and Ozzie in regards to sense of humor and performing.

That said, I’m not sure if Blitzo and Fizzarolli’s life aspirations and values (Fizz being a free famous performer who inspires others, versus Blitzo wanting to be an assassin and imp who achieved are very different but also similar…) align as much as Asmodeus and Fizzarolli’s, at least right now in canon. That’s why I don’t see BlitzFizz as more than friends right now. So I don’t get the Fizzarozzie shippers who are like “Fizzarolli should never interact with Blitz ever again!” because he still needs friends? And even if you don’t ship them romantically they still have raport as adults.

Personally I feel like…idk the whole part about values seems underdeveloped, I don’t even know what Asmodeus values in life other than fizz. His lustful rouse was all a lie, the sextoy factory isn’t doing so well. He seems deeply unhappy in a way that can’t be fixed just by fizz alone, so who is he really?

And is fizz really a free performer now? Not really. He’s both tied down to Asmodeus, and he wants to get out of the spotlight to take a break/vacation. But why wouldn’t creeps just follow him during his vacation? Does Ozzie have to be with him for the entire thing? Does fizz want to explore the other rings? Blitz or Ozzie can’t always be there for security. We need to attach weapons to his prosthetics yesterday and I know just the guy for the job!!

Seriously these things look just like Fizzarolli’s prosthetics. Bet he’d ask for pink ones. Wally works with both Lyle & Loopdee robotics as his wacky idea factory, and he bartends at Ozzies. The connection is there. And it would be pretty cool to see him get help from people lower on the “ladder” and visit the pride ring where things are just never quiet. Who doesn’t love a good fish out of water storyline.

But if you really think about it? They both wanted to be famous imps known all across hell, they both get called imp boy and want to show people that they’re more than that, to inspire others. “Not many imps start businesses on their own” remember? And they value family, security, loyalty, and self image.

back in mwezi miji, it wasn't uncommon for you and nuru to sleep in the same bed. back when atiena was still alive, serving the two of you fresh meals in the morning, she would often find the two of you huddled together underneath a single blanket.

of course, you always got the better bargain between the two of you considering nuru also had his wings tossed over you like a second blanket.

"i never had the heart to wake you up," she would say to the two of you. maybe that's why nuru always got up so late before she died.

what atiena didn't know, or maybe she did and just never told you, was that the events that led up to those nights involved the two of you finding solace in each other.

the nights in savanaclaw were quiet. it was all eerily quiet given that the dorms were filled with muscle-headed beastmen that had nothing in their heads except for pure anger and pride. you expected to hear plenty of snoring coming from the other rooms, but you didn't.

in fact, the silence only reminded you of those cruel nights you spent awake in mwezi miji.

you loved the town with all your heart, but it effectively ruined the concept of silence. but you knew that it wasn't their fault. it was those damned elders, their taunting words still ringing in your head when there was nothing to distract you.

sometimes, in those dark nights that were only illuminated by the stars and the moon, you swore you saw them standing outside of your window.

and, just like in mwezi miji, you swore you saw them in savanaclaw.

"nuru?" your voice was soft when you finally reached his door, lightly tapping your knuckles against it. your heart dropped to your stomach in those few moments.

nuru's probably asleep right now... i shouldn't bother him. maybe if i close my eyes--

"(name)?" his voice was just as soft as your knocking was when he opened the door. his hair was messy, a result of him burying his face in his pillows like he did when he was younger. "what's wrong?"

"ah..." your voice was caught in your throat. despite that, he seemed to get the idea.

"come," he ordered, lethargy lacing his voice as he grabbed your wrist. he was quick to shut the door behind you and pull you to his bed.

he fell into his blanket, burying his face in the pillow once more. and you followed suit, curling into his side just like you had done all those years ago.

"thank you, nuru..." you muttered your gratitude, snuggling into nuru's hold. just like when you were young, his wing extended to drape over you, covering you like a second blanket. "g'night."

and as your eyes closed and the moon and stars shined into nuru's room, you felt at peace, the elders now gone from the window.

when he was younger, nuru was quick to sleep. when you would sneak into his room, he was passed out. of course, you always woke him up and he was glad to make room for you, falling asleep within seconds once more.

but, now that he was older, he learned that the best nights were when you would curl up by his side, illuminated by the moon and the stars.

now that the two of you were in savanaclaw, miles and miles away from mwezi miji, it still felt like home the moment you were curled up beside him.

he couldn’t help it when his arm moved to wrap around you, pulling you close and pressing his cheek against the top of your head, your ears tickling his nose with every twitch. he had to force himself to not press a kiss against your head.

oh, how he cherished these nights.

bestie drop the Kris & Ralsei relationship rant and why there's less fandom reception for them because of archetypes. the ppl want to know.

so, deltarune community, i introduce to you, a half-assed 3AM rant about kris and ralsei.

while i still cannot pass out i figured out what bothers me about the way theyre presented and why platonic kralsei is such a craving that has no material in the fandom to work with whatsoever

we know the susie relationships. everyone cherishes kris and susies friendship. id say it comes first if anything. people vaguely appreciate her and ralsei as well - we had plenty of hangout opportunities for the two, there are even two or three comics about ralsei and his beef with her. friendship content. dynamic exploring

kris and ralsei presentation however includes but is not limited to: dry interaction (choose your flavour: kris/kris as player projection aka the thing everyone did with ch1 ralsei cutesy content), dry interaction 2.0 aka The Sillies/ralsei as sole background commenter in goofyass situations/the normal dude (may or may not include in-game shit), kris' resentment of ralsei (at least theyre getting creative), and finally mushy romantic couple shit and sugarcoating tropes

vc: and you could excuse that with a "oh, well but we dont know anything about ralseis backstory" yet we hardly know anything about susies either. we only theorise of her past related to adoption, being homeless, insert other determinators based material. we factually know very little of her, yet susie has established friendships with both kris and ralsei, even well-written fan content with noelle that is not limited by surface romance but rather the exploration of their dynamic, friends first, partners - second.

as in for either of them being morally gray? susie has no problems with that and i love her, we love her, the_newest_girl sweepstakes log hasnt changed anything. i do have a theory on how that could affect ralsei, though. might contemplate on that.

so susie has all that. kris, their nature still unknown to most, but overall sympathetic with a shade of gray morality (HEEEELLL YEAAA) has the similar spectrum. kris has all that.

with them and ralsei though? its like. not a single plate of them as a dynamic. as actual friends

and honestly its no wonder kralsei is getting rejected from lightner ship/old darkner ship communities

we present no base. no fundamental understanding or interpretation of them

...though i wish id browse through deltarune tag more legitimately and take samples every time i see kris and ralsei on-screen to have a list of categories for each interaction to sort them like legos by shapes and colours.

there was one.ONE comic of them that kept the hopes up. this is why kralsei is stayin alive. that, and tunas scarf thingy. our icon (shhhh hes seepy)

i, uh, dont have a conclusion. i remember writing it because i wish we actually came up with who they are. wish that even they had conflicts and resolutions, similarities and differences, like any other dynamic in the fanon, having multiple headcanons and interpretations.

i just wish we gave them a chance to be friends.

I imagine that for the 9 questions game you already got both Eo and Barry so I'm going to ask about Bart :D

1: sexuality headcanon: I think, like his ancestor--Eobard--he probably has a more casual relationship to physical intimacy and might be friends with benefits with multiple people but keep it platonic. I don't think these would be flings so much as standing arrangements. Also like Eobard, I think he has a single person who is his romantic match and he'd tear timelines apart to get to that person.

2: otp: Konbart. Kon is Bart's lightning rod, nothing will convince me otherwise. I just think they both have to understand each other on a level that most people can't, because they're both people who had a fundamentally different development

3: brotp: Bart and Cissie. They will always be famous.

4: notp I haven't seen any Bart ships that just make me mentally slam on the brakes the way I associate with NOTPs, so I don't think I have one? Plenty I'm not interested in but none that make me go NO.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head: Bart's Thawne heritage is going to get more obvious with time.

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

I feel like often I haven't considered a pairing until I read a fic that does it really well or that gives me a premise I can get behind, but the only time someone, as in another person specifically talking to me, changed my mind was when a friend from one fandom suggested I might enjoy a fic from a different fandom we were both in… so I read an FMA Ed/Roy mpreg fic that I would not have otherwise given the time of day to… and I really enjoyed it ngl. 

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

Sesshomaru/Kagome from the Inuyasha fandom. I do not understand why this pairing was so popular. If you want to hook Sesshomaru up with a human woman, Sango is standing right there ffs, she is such a better choice, lmao. I don't really get Reylo either, and there are plenty of other het ships that just make me scratch my head.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

Wesley Wyndam-Price from Buffy/Angel. I love this man, and I love his development from someone who has no idea what the fuck is actually going on, to developing both physical and interpersonal competence, to finding a real family, to losing it through accidentally following some bad advice and betraying everyone, to finding love, to losing everything. His devotion to Fred makes a primordial, demonic, god-being care enough to help the protagonists fight an overwhelming army. I mean come on. This might be the one character I really did not mind at all that Whedon killed, because I felt like he had done everything and achieved everything he could possibly achieve and there was nowhere else for him to go. Perfection💔don't tell me anything about the comics i don't care

N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

For the fandom of Stargate in general… 

More alien headcanons!! There are some really great people writing some fantastic fics for the Wraith, so I'm going to complain specifically about how I want more fics and HC for the Nakai and Ursini in SGU. Also the Reol from SG1 ("The Fifth Man”) have SUCH potential, I want to see more of them!! 

I would love to see more SGU people in SGA plots, if that makes sense. (I have a fic where Sheppard gets booted as military Commander, and I'm thinking of replacing him with Telford. 🤔)

more crossover ideas in general, within the Stargate brand. What if Vala and Cam came to visit Atlantis while Sam was there?  What if the whole gateing-through-the-sun-time-warp thing sent Rush to Pegasus instead and he ran into Todd? What if “Rising” was actually “Solitudes” and Sheppard and O'Neill are the ones trapped under a bunch of ice when their chopper puts down unexpectedly to dodge the drone?  (I just think it would be neat.🙂) 

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).

The last question had a 3 in it so my brain stuck on that track and I came up with 3 SGU AUs I'd like to see

The Lucian Alliance doesn't attack as they're dialing Destiny in ep 1 and even though they have to evacuate bc the planet's about to explode, everyone who doesn't want to go through the gate can beam up to Carter’s ship and evac to Earth. So it's a tense situation but there's enough time and focus that Telford and O'Neill get to send the “right people team" that they wanted to send. I wonder who that was? Presumably this team was already on Icarus base, it just contained fewer civilians. I'd like to see them not do any better, or mess up in different ways. 

Everything happens the same, but Camille is more assertive sooner and gets Young and Rush to stop being such dicks to each other, and everyone has a more mentally healthy experience.

When I first read the title of the s1 finale “Incursion,” I thought it was going to be about the Nakai returning. So, an AU where that happens, OR both the Nakai and the Lucian Alliance show up to invade Destiny on the same day and everything is chaos ❤️

Wow, I really don't know if I can answer this… I feel like everything I think about the characters is my headcanon to an extent? And what I canon in my head changes for every fic. I think I HC the Wraith as being a lot more into casual touch than they are shown in canon, that just jumps to mind. (But like, there's not much to them, socially, in canon, so it's really all hc, and I don't think I can list all the backstory/society I've made up for them across several fics.) Narrow the question down a bit and I can maybe do better.😂

It’s Your Turn SNS

It’s been a while since I first talked about making this post and if I’m being honest, it’s because I couldn’t think of what I could say. For a while, I thought I was gonna have to throw in the towel and say I only don’t ship SNS because I choose not to ship it. But I also know that I don’t tend to simply “choose” not to ship something, at least not without reason. Especially since I shipped it in the past and had no reason to suddenly stop (it’s not like I stepped away from the series). So, I kept thinking about it until I’ve come to a conclusion:

SNS may not have anything I consider major issues, but it does have a lot of small problems that add up quickly.

Bring in the bullet list.

It’s very clear that they're meant to have a brotherly bond. I know this is beating a dead horse so I’ll keep this quick. They argue and compete like siblings, Naruto refers to Sasuke as his brother like he refers to Iruka like a father, they are reincarnations of brothers, and they are literally based on siblings. Reader interpretation is more important than authorial intent, but this is rather big elephant in the room for me. Especially since it’s easy to see their relationship as purely familial (easier than seeing it as romantic in many cases).

They have vastly different perspectives. Yes, the story is about them finding understanding, but that also means that most of their interactions show off all the ways they don’t understand each other. They may have both been lonely growing up, but they were lonely in very different ways. Naruto never had a family and was ostracized for no reason, Sasuke watched everything get taken away from him and self isolated. Sasuke had a point during VotE1 and the Pain arc doesn’t nullify their differences. Of course you can get with someone without having identical childhoods, I’m just bringing this up because it’s relevant to them having clashing views of the world. They both want to do good, but they believe in different ways of going about it. It’s not just that they look at the world differently, it’s that they’ve come to different conclusions about how the world works. While this can be a positive, it more often than not causes fights between them in canon and I don’t have enough evidence to believe it wouldn’t cause just as many fights in fanon.

Their fandom can be so annoying. This isn’t actually a point against the ship itself and it’s not fair to hold the fandom against it. But I'm only human and this happens to play a role. I’ve already talked a little about why I don’t like this particular branch of the fandom and I have too many more reasons to reasonably add here, so I’m gonna end this here.

It perpetuates the idea that male relationships can’t be affectionate. Again, this isn’t the ships fault but it plays a role in my opinion so I’m mentioning it. I promise to keep it brief. There’s this idea, at least in the west, that only relationships between two girls can simultaneously be affectionate and platonic. Any relationship that has a boy involved (boy-girl, boy-boy) can’t be because people insist that there has to be some romantic/sexual edge. Insisting that Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship has to be romantic/sexual just adds to this.

They share almost no meaningful conversation. I am a crackshipper so canon isn’t everything to me, but it’s not like I’m burning canon either. I still use it as a reference for characterization and dynamics between characters. Canon makes me question how good of friends these two are and tells me that they can’t work through conflict without throwing hands. They have two canonical, meaningful conversations and they only had one of them because they were too tired to start fighting again. This also isn’t because they as characters struggle to be civil. Naruto and Sasuke have plenty of nonviolent interactions with members of Konoha (+sand siblings) and team Taka respectively. Their relationship is more based on actions than words (which is fine), but can’t they at least share some more words? At times it gives off the impression that they don’t like talking to each other. This is in part due to the genre and Kishimoto skipping over team 7 bonding so I can let this slide, but I’m not gonna forget this.

Their dynamic is more symbolism than substance. This is an add on to my last point, but it’s different enough to separate. When you pull back and ask “what is the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke?”, there’s a slight trend in their relationship having more thematic and symbolic importance than character to character importance. Now, I’m not gonna pretend I don’t like when ships have a lot of symbolic meaning behind them, but I see that symbolism more like sprinkles. Sprinkles are nice to have on the cake and they certainly make it easier to sell the cake, but they aren’t a replacement for the cake. Sometimes when I’ve had a bad day I’ll take a handful of sprinkles, but I prefer a more cake to sprinkle ratio any other time. Granted, this might be due to me not having watched/read Naruto in a while, so maybe I’m forgetting some interactions or some details from certain interactions.

Naruto didn’t actually “save” Sasuke. I’m gonna say something controversial: Naruto and Sakura didn’t save Sasuke, he saved himself. Naruto and Sakura first set off to save Sasuke from Orochimaru, but he left Orochimaru himself. Then they wanted to help him against Itachi (their intentions were actually a little unclear), but Sasuke took out Itachi alone (with a little help from team hebi). Then Sakura went off to kill Sasuke to help Naruto and Naruto wanted to keep the Raikage from having Sasuke killed (though he was more interested in understanding Sasuke at this time), and both failed. Sasuke pulled himself out of his mental crisis and left Obito/Zetsu’s influence, Sasuke took steps to understand his brother, Sasuke asked the Hokage about the village (with the help of taka), Sasuke chose to help the Allies Shinobi Force against Madara/Obito/Kaguya, and Sasuke went on a redemption quest to better understand himself and the world. Naruto wasn’t irrelevant to Sasuke’s journey, but how much did he really help Sasuke? Naruto and Sasuke do influence each other, but it’s almost always passive rather than an active effort to help the other (at least in regards to the times they do have a positive influence on the other).

I’m not certain they could help each other with their problems. Moving outside of canon and into fanon, the question becomes “how could Naruto and Sasuke help each other grow?” The answer is: I’m not sure, actually. According to my interpretations of the characters, these are their greatest remaining flaws as of the end of the narrative: Naruto struggles with prioritizing (this includes prioritizing his perspective over others, the few over the many, and others over himself to the point of detriment) and Sasuke still needs to find a sense of peace. While it’s not impossible that they could help each other, I’m gonna press x to doubt. Sasuke isn’t the best at prioritizing either, but, more importantly, because of his different perspective, his solution would probably involve Naruto changing his values. Naruto doesn’t need his values to change, he needs to figure out what he wants and what’s most important to him. Also, Naruto is a good person to go to to make you question your life, but I don’t think he’d be the best at helping anyone find peace, especially someone as different as Sasuke. Yes, Naruto and Sasuke are capable of improving on their own (if they’re given a push in the right direction because neither are all that introspective), but is it so bad that I’d prefer them being in a relationship that helps them improve if they’re in a relationship at all?

So, yeah.

I’m sure I could come up with an additional point here or there, but those would probably edge even further into personal taste (I say as if this isn’t all according to my interpretation and opinion). In conclusion, the ship is fine, I guess, but it isn’t my cup of tea. It just has too many points going against it for me.

I love Chaos Rising so much. I haven't been liveblogging it too much but it was like "no way it's better than Thrawn or Treason" but tbh it's same level. It's a different kind of story but it's still so good. Here's some highlight thoughts.

I will protect Che'ri with my life. She is so precious and hurt and I just want good things for her and seeing her be around people that respect her is everything. I died when she was sobbing because she and Thalias had a fight because Thalias was leaving and she was scared she was going to die thinking Che'ri hated her.

Also, Thalias showing Thrawn Che'ri's drawings and them making sure she had 2(!!!) new sets of markers for their journey and plenty of drawing paper(And Che'ri being annoyed her mom is showing off her art). So quietly domestic in everything going on. Making sure their kid has stuff to do on a long road trip.

I nearly cried during Thrawn teaching Che'ri how to fly and how she realizes it's all an offer. She doesn't have to learn-it's not an order. It's an offer. And it helps with her fears and confidence. She's been abused and Thrawn and Thalias and Ar'alani do so much to reteach her.

Thrawn himself. It's so very much Thrawn, but I can tell he's more... Comfortable. Among the chiss. Before whatever led to his exile/"exile." He smiles more in these books. His narratives don't have him watching others so closely and cataloging their moves. He's so tactile with Thalias, always touching her arm or steering her places. He never touches people in the Empire books, I think. But with her, tactileness seems to be easy. Almost something he seeks out. And his speech just seems more free. Definitely less closed off. More polite too. It's all small things but I can tell he's still Thrawn but this is a much more comfy Thrawn in his own space.

My thoughts on Ar'alani has gone mild(1st read of Treason)->like(2nd read of Treason)->Love(CR). I love her in this book so much. She is such a good commander and giving up her family must've been so hard.

Also my view of Thrawn and Ar'alani is this: If it had ever been mutually romantic, it always would've been so I'm going to assume that if it was ever romantic, it was one sided(Likely Ar'alani because this Thrawn STILL botches emotional moments like the fucking shipping container-Zahn placed them in a shipping container and that man still couldn't respond with the right kind of emotion I swear to god I don't know what's worse that or GDLV because at least Thrawn had excuses for GDLV) and never acted upon to preserve their friendship. Because if they loved, it would've been deep and soulmate level.

I don't have the right word yet but important. Regal? I hope nothing happens to him(I know it will but Thoorki is good).

As an audiobook listener I miss Samakro because he sounds like Eli :/ But he's coming around. He respects Thrawn.

Okay my mind crapped out once I realized Jordan Anderson was actually hurt and I need to get ready for work but here's a lot of it.

Che'ri defense squad, Thrawn is comfy, smiley, and tactile, but emotionally level 1, he and Ar'alani are ride and die, I love this cast so much.

Final big Picard post:

I know this entire season and the entire last episode was nostalgia bait. And I DON’T CARE. I loved it. Look. This is my childhood. TNG is almost exactly as old as I am. I am the fish this nostalgia bait is made for. I’m biting and I’m not ashamed.

The finale managed to avoid the trap of giving beloved characters senseless and meaningless endings in the name of “originality” or “unpredictability” (not talking about Shaw here; I’ve already said plenty about that). It gave the characters, cast, and even the ship a fitting send-off.

I was convinced Picard would sacrifice himself to save Jack in the end and I’m relieved that didn’t happen. However, more important than the sacrifice itself is that Picard was willing to make it. He tells Jack “If you won’t leave, I’ll stay with you” then Jack makes the decision to save both of them.

Even better! Nobody died! I’m happy to make up everybody lives/nobody dies AUs, but it’s also great to see this happen in canon. Jack gets to have a relationship with his father, Picard gets to have a relationship with his son, Picard and Beverly get a relationship with each other and their kid. Whether Picard and Beverly love each other romantically or platonically, they’re on good terms and they both love Jack.

My personal headcanon is Picard is still with Laris who embraces the stepmom role and sips Chateau Picard with Beverly while talking crap about their man.

And! The D had her last stand and survived! She gets to be a museum now! Perfect! The wreck in Generations has been a sore spot for 30 years and now it’s fixed! Like a great big fix-it fic but it’s canon. Yes!

Raffi gets to reconcile with her son and meet her granddaughter. One thing I love about Raffi is she’s tough and snarky but also very warm and nurturing when the situation calls for it. Look at how she handled Agnes’s breakdown in S1. Raffi will love grandma-hood and be awesome at it. And Worf will be the fun uncle.

And my very very favorite thing, probably the show’s crowning achievement, is Seven finally finds her niche. She struggled to find her place among humans for so long and it’s good to see her with her own command and family. That hug to Sidney after the Fleet Formation nightmare? So good.

It also seems Jack and Sidney are a thing now? Hahaha. HAHAHAHAHA.

Lastly…there was Q. Man, I can’t wait to see Q torment another generation of the Enterprise.

Picard was always dogged by his discomfort with family matters. You get the feeling that he’s “not a family man” as he tells Riker in Encounter at Farpoint, but he WANTS to be a family man. He WISHES he could be. He’s devastated when his brother and nephew are killed because there will be no more Picards. And Picard does show fatherly energy on more than a few occasions, notably with Wesley and Elnor. It’s nice to see him find “the part of [him] [he] never knew was missing” in Jack and get a chance to be the father he always wanted to be on some level but never thought he could be.

There’s a quote that makes its way around this site about how modern media judges happiness as silly and trivial and only pain is interesting or realistic. But sometimes happiness is interesting and deep and meaningful. It sure was here.

I'm rambling about Daryl Dixon and romance ... what year is it?

I have had some serious time with my man Daryl, since I have actively watched TWD since 2012 (except for a small hiatus last year where I didn't finish the show bc I didn't want it to end lol but I recently did finish and its all I think about now)

I have always thought that Daryl was a queer character. If you know the character, you know what I mean by him having those signs of being queer ... constantly thinking of himself as an outsider ... being drawn to friendships with women ...

I thought that in canon, it made the most sense for him to be ace? Every person he's formed a strong bond with, it's been platonic, when plenty of other romantic couples on the show have formed from much less.

I also remember something about Norman thinking that Daryl just has zero game and would be very awkward about romance. 😆 Which I agree with.

This kind of thing has also lead me to think that he could have internalized homophobia, where he's never really acted on his feelings for the same sex.

I have also thought that maybe he was just physically abused so much as a child that he couldn't stand that idea of being touched.

Which are like both very sad reasons that he's never had romance.

With or without Daryl being queer being the case, Leah was such a mistake on the writers part. I don't know what they were thinking with that shit. Why would they give Daryl romance after all that time only for him to have to kill her for shock value? Like was he not traumatized enough? Have we not done enough to him? For him to be THAT vulnerable with someone and then that all happened with the reapers ... give me a damn break writer's room.

I never saw it as necessary for Daryl to have a romance on the main show. I can understand that people did want that, and pressed for that, (especially when it comes to Carol, since he is clearly the closest to her out of anyone ever).

Now that he has his own show, and we are delving even more deeply into him ... still exploring the world, but he is the ACTUAL main character with the damn show named after him, I could be more open to the idea. I understand the show likely isn't going to make him queer.

I have TOTALLY written rp threads and fics with Daryl in relationships (even sexual ones) that take place in the canon timeline. I have fantasized and daydreamed about him having a boyfriend. I think he's had a strong bond with Aaron. I just like the idea of him being with Jesus, (though I could make a list of their couple of canon interactions of WHY lmao - its fine).

I know from experience of r0leplaying in The Walking Dead fandom back in the day that people are protective and wild over their ships ... especially when it comes to Daryl ... not that I have too many followers now ... especially TWD peeps.

Beth and Connie are Daryl's biggest m/f ships other than him and Carol, and I ... guess I get it, but also Do Not.

I don't actively participate in shipping Daryl and Carol, I do understand why people do. If he and Carol do end up being endgame, I will probably root for it. Wanna make it clear, even though it ain't my OTP, whatever makes Daryl happy I am here for it. He really does deserve that happy ending.

I think I’m gonna have to do this at some point so I figure I might as well do it now.

I kind of ship Krisnix.

But it’s more complicated than I feel like I can explain with just that statement. So here, let me try:

I don’t think it would be a good relationship. I think it’s quite obvious it would be very unhealthy. But the reason I say I kind of ship it is because 1.) I think Phoenix really would feel that way about Kristoph, and 2.) I think that’s interesting to think about. I think Krisnix is an interesting reflection of Phoenix’s mental state during the seven year gap, and I think his internal struggle of on some level knowing that Kristoph is bad for him but hating himself too much to care is something that’s again… interesting. I’m really struggling to think of another word for it.

(I should also probably mention upfront that my interpretation of Kristoph is probably a lot more of a fully realized and sympathetic person than a lot of other peoples’)

Now, I actually don’t think that Kristoph, how I see him, would even consider dating Phoenix. But Phoenix’s struggle with his feelings for Kristoph, even after he knows for certain he’s a murderer and never gave a shit about him, is like… really fucking interesting to think about! Whether those feelings were romantic or not. Kristoph was probably Phoenix’s closest friend during the seven year gap. (We know Maya had gone back to Kurain and I imagine Edgeworth was away as well) And realizing that the person who was there for you at the lowest point of your life never actually cared about you at all, and was in fact responsible for said lowest point in your life, has got to be really hard. And I imagine it wouldn’t be as simple as just hating him now. Those feelings (again romantic or platonic, or perhaps a mix of both) wouldn’t just go away. And again, I think that’s worth exploring if you want because I think a lot of us have experienced stuff like this. A lot of people have really complicated relationships with others.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not “pro-ship” by any means (I don’t identify as anti-ship either — I think both communities have a lot of problems), but I do think that sometimes those of us who maybe lean more anti or are anti-shippers can have a problem with conflating being interested in a certain dynamic with thinking that dynamic is perfectly healthy in every way. And don’t get me wrong, sometimes people do defend their problematic ships in ways that try to make it seem okay irl (and with a lot of ships that’s really fucked up) But that’s not what I’m talking about. I mean I think some people see you show interest in obviously unhealthy ships and assume that means you would defend them irl, when I think that’s often not true (again, sometimes it is, and sometimes people ship things to specifically sexualize the problematic aspect, and I definitely do have a problem with that)

But like, you don’t always want to think about a perfect healthy relationship. If you’ve been in relationships you’ve probably had several that were not that. And maybe the reason you’re interested in a certain ship isn’t because “abuse sexy”, but because you think the internal struggles of the character(s) in the ship is interesting or relatable or it speaks to you on a level that you maybe don’t even understand.

I like a wide variety of ships, and most of them are relatively wholesome (with the potential for a bit of angst). And actually, Wrightworth is one of them. I don’t think Phoenix should end up with Kristoph. I don’t want to see him to end up with Kristoph. But I think his feelings for him are a part of his story. And they’re a part that I’d like to explore through writing and art and roleplay and stuff.

But this stuff is also complicated. I’ve read Krisnix fanfic and I remember two of them having set-ups that I found actually very distasteful. (Part of the reason I don’t usually just read random fics anymore) And I’m sure there are plenty of people who also find this dynamic interesting who I would flatly dislike. And I would even say that there are probably certain ships that attract people who I have particular problems with, and that this may even be one of them (I may be an outlier for having a relatively sympathetic and humanized interpretation of Kristoph)

Yeah, I feel like there should be a larger point here because I did talk about some stuff earlier on that was more broad, but I don’t quite know how to end this.

(If you’re only interested in the Krisnix part feel free to leave now) Also cw for like, excessive unfounded p*dophilia accusations in the next section:

I guess…. A lot of antis or anti-adjacent ppl like myself make snap judgements about peoples’ character based solely on which fictional characters’ hypothetical relationships they think about. Now, that doesn’t mean that sometimes these judgements aren’t correct. And if you see cp or creepy art on someone’s blog they’re certainly warranted. And just because you don’t have evidence someone is a creep doesn’t mean you can’t block them cause the vibes are off or you just don’t want to see a certain ship. I want to make it very clear that that is absolutely fine and I would, in fact, encourage it. I am not trying to remove your ability to look away. And I am of the opinion that if there’s potentially triggering content on your blog, you should tag it in order to make that easier. And because a lot of ships make people uncomfortable, I’m definitely in favor of tagging for that too, especially if they include concerning relationship dynamics like age gaps around a certain age or inc*st or abuse, or if you know that a lot of people have a problem with them.

What I’m trying to suggest people don’t do is call people p*dophiles with no fucking proof. (If you don’t do this, I’m not talking about you.) That word has a very specific meaning, and I think the internet has a really big problem with overusing it.

Also, while I almost sort of understand this when it comes to people who ship children/teens with adults (I definitely think that’s weird btw, just not necessarily p*dophilic), I’ve seen people call relationships p*dophilic when they are between two adults. And I don’t mean like, 18-year-olds and 35-year-olds bc while that’s also not p*edophilia, it is creepy and potentially the result of grooming. I mean the people who say that tall people who date short people are p*dophiles. Or people who think that an 18-year-old dating a 17-year-old is p*dophilia. Like, can we not please? Misusing words like that makes them lose some of their actual meaning, and thus makes them less able to be used to describe the thing they actually refer to, which in this case is very important!!

Anyway, I’m sorry this was really rambly and got kind of off-topic. All my damn posts are like that. Maybe I shouldn’t have tried to make a point at the end. But whatever. These were just my thoughts.

Definitely Riddle/Floyd. Never would have crossed my mind tbh but @moorsgrimhilde made a case for it and now I can’t unsee the soulmate potential. They’re a really cute, funny ship that just lives at the back of my mind now. I like calling them Floriddle because it sounds like a fucked up version of Florida and idk that’s just really funny to me, what can I say dajkgjskdgdjk

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.

Jamil and Azul. Just nope lmao. There’s definitely something going on from Azul’s side, but I would hesitate to even call that a crush because he’s so clearly business-minded about it all. Even if Azul had seriously caught feelings, I don’t think Jamil could be less interested if he tried lmao.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

This is kind of a “they���re a set, do not separate” situation, so… JAMIL AND KALIM. I’ve been so pleasantly surprised by both the development of their characters as individuals as well as the relationship between them. The Scarabia arc absolutely destroyed me, but god, it was SO important for upturning the figurative log of their relationship to show all the bugs and rot beneath that they just HAVE to confront, they gotta.

With all that ugliness laid bare, I just love to see the genuine effort Kalim makes to be more self-aware of himself and his privilege. I love that he decides to embrace being competitive and earning his laurels, I love that he gives Jamil the space he so desperately needs to breathe while at the same time holding out his hand in an offer of friendship because, after everything, he still sees the best in Jamil and he really wants to make things better. It’s not just something he says, he puts his actions behind it, too.

I love seeing Jamil so bitter and guarded, but slowly, very slowly coming around to the idea of friendship with Kalim as he starts to realize that Kalim didn’t choose his life any more than he did and, yes, his lot in life is better in many regards, but Kalim isn’t the caricature of a person Jamil always looked at him as. There’s loneliness and fear and heavy obligations that Kalim must carry. There’s also deep compassion and generosity in this boy who could very well be as selfish as he likes. The way Jamil’s armor begins to show cracks, the way he finally tells Kalim at the end of the Scalding Sands event that maybe the idea of being friends isn’t so bad actually… *FIST CLENCH* No one’s doing it like them.

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.

Man, shout out to Idia because I really didn’t like him at all until the Ignihyde arc dropped. He’s never going to be a fave of mine, but there’s plenty of nice things I could say about him. His character design is gorgeous. I absolutely love his hair, it’s so cool. His backstory with Ortho? Heartbreaking. Hurts so good.

His potential as a villain? AMAZING. I’m not gonna lie, I find him most intriguing in that capacity. I want him as a fully unhinged morally dark gray scientist. I knew it was in vain to want this, but I was so hoping for a mad scientist/lab rats kind of plot with Ignihyde. Apparently I’m just going to have to write the AU I want for myself one day, what else is new djaksgjksdg

V - Which character do you relate to most?

Hmm, I think it’s pretty close between Carlos and Jamil, but I’m going to just focus on Jamil since I’ve spoken about that a lot less on this blog. I relate a lot to Jamil being someone who walks a very thin line between love and hate with one of the most important people in his life. He seems to me haunted by questions like, would I love you if I didn’t have to? Is it okay that you’ve hurt me since you never meant to and you don’t even realize, may never even understand how you’ve done so? Can I ever know my authentic feelings toward you or have we lived too long under the shadow of my obligations toward you? Yeah, things like that djkgjskdgjk.

Also, the way he tries so hard to bottle up his emotions and keep his head down, but there’s so much resentment inside him that threatens to turn destructive and, god, that siren song of giving into it, damn the consequences…

Um. There’s also that he’s canonically terrified of bugs lmao. Relatable content.

A - Z Fandom Asks

Hi Juulz, welcome back! I'm glad you had a good trip!

It pumps me the fuck up to know you enjoy my analyses and that based on the tags, find them helpful in arranging ideas. That is the highest honor for a little fangirl such as myself. I am a shameless lore whore, so getting to piece things together and unraveling the backstory is so much fun. So is brainstorming additional story details canon leaves out or unclear.

I've heard people say that, "assuming makes an ass out of you and me both," and I think I see why lmfao. Between me being a hopeless romantic, calling on common narratives and assuming there would be an overaching theme of love between the Misfits and AWSB AUs (even if they ultimately played out differently), I read into things a little off. That said, I'm not disappointed in this take and I'm actually curious about how it's going to play out. Be it something as simple as Misfit! Silver being an Aromantic Pansexual, or something as deliciously tragic as him being too emotionally broken down to acknowledge his own feelings, or hell, being capable of geniune love at all. There's plenty of options for you to chose from, and either way, it's content for me to eat.

Leaving the concept of Silver's ex a blank slate is good for me as well, as I can play around with different ideas and scenarios when I'm bored and adapt it to whatever I'm craving.

And yeah, I see your point of Silver caring for his ex and possibly Gold in a non-romantic/non-familial platonic way. Honestly, platonic love is more sacred, Western Culture just hypes romance up too much (and I'm a victim of that brainwashIng). I have to laugh, because the more we chat about the AUs the more I kin your Golds. This particular conversation really makes me feel connected to Gold as I remained infatuated with my first love for years despite him being in and out of my life and usually not a good influence. I've crushed on a guy-friend I went to highschool with who was aroace. I loved one of my childhood friends before I understood I was bi, and watched her love other people and watched get her heart broken repeatedly, but grew to love her only platonically later. I had pretty strong feelings for a girl who cared about me so little she laughed when she heard about my botched suicide attempt. And I had a massive crush on a guy-friend from college who had a limerent crush on someone else and we became even better friends after he rejected me.

That last one is particularly funny for me because my mom, shortly before she passed, had really shipped us and said, "I can tell he loves you, maybe not in a romantic sense, but he loves you regardless. I wish he was in love with though, because he sounds like a young man I'd trust with my daughter". I don't care if anyone else sees this, it's the internet, it's anonymous. Besides, it's my canon event, it happened, I survived and got better.

Oh, and thank you for linking the flashback image. I remember seeing it before, but I think I had paid more attention to Gold's half, while overlooking one of the potential implication's of Silver's. I'm not sure how I missed that. Catholic school boy probably means more than religious trauma. Lastly, would you be interested in hearing some songs that make me think of Silver? I've been wanting to make a playlist. It'll probably be multiversal though so I don't have to make specific playlists for different characterizations.

I enjoy reading all feedback and especially when it’s so thought through and thorough. It can be hard to pack all the details and nuances into a couple of panels, so I’m always down to talk about the AUs to clarify and/or expand upon or just to chat in general. As long as it’s not a spoiler ;)

The overreaching theme of love may yet be possible, but if we’re talking about “Nothing” comics, it’s too early into the story to be anything but one-sided. After realizing his crush (and losing some of his 'clients' and out of fear for his life) Gold starts hanging more around that pub where Silver’s band plays and practices. They do drugs, fuck around after gigs and in between, but in the end Gold’s no more than a groupie competing with the other groupies for some dick to suck.

I recall mentioning it somewhere, possibly twtr, Silver’s response comes off as harsh, but this has not been the first time Gold’s confessed. Not even the second. An obsessed fan threatening to off themselves unless they get a return confession. He’d seen this before, he detests blackmail, and still Silver breaks that door down and drags Gold’s pissy ass to the A&E for he wants no one else OD’ing on him, willfully or otherwise.

If I ever write a fic this would be covered, but as things are I don’t mind leaving it vague even if it paints Silver more of an asshole than he really is. It also makes Gold lessmore pathetic.

I tend to see bits of myself in both of the characters, as most creatives do. Losing a friend to an intentional overdose, trashy underground parties and gigs and overall nonconformity being my canon events. Not autobiographical of course, I wouldn't (probably even be able to) let my life get as fucked up as theirs, but that’s the fun of cooking up these AUs, exploring the extremes and subjecting my faves to the what-ifs.

1. WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER(S)?

To be honest, I don't really have OTPs ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

I'm very fond of writing Timebomb (Ekko x Jinx) at the moment, and I enjoyed writing ViCait stuff. I'll also allude to Scar x Zihnah on here (Zihnah being the OC I established to be the mother of Scar's daughter that we see he canonically has.)

But I'm more interested in writing style compatibility with rp partners, plot development, and assessing character chemistry on an individual basis, than on pursuing specific ships.

If someone I really vibed the writing style of approached me with an interesting enough idea, even if it was a ship I hadn't considered writing before, I'd give it a go (which is how I ended up with moon/toffee, silco/lachlan and darkling/nikolai rp threads lmao)

2. HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

That depends on two core factors.

One - how old is the younger character? Are they in their thirties (aka an established, financially independent adult with a good amount of life experience under their belt), or are they eighteen/nineteen (aka barely legal, still learning how to be an adult, likely with not much life experience and likely not financially secure.)

Two - Is it supposed to be written as a wholesome equal partnership, or an exploration of toxic/controlling power dynamics?

I'm not going to be comfortable writing a 19 year old character in a relationship with a 30+ year old character unless my partner agrees that it is supposed to be uncomfortable, and unhealthy, and we are exploring a plot with dark themes. There is an inherent power imbalance for that kind of age difference and that needs to be acknowledged. But I wouldn't bat an eyelid at writing a 35 year old character with a 46 year old character, because both characters have plenty of life experience under their belts and are on more even footing in a general life stage sense.

3. HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?

Once clothes start coming off and/or things move past second base ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

4. ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?

If I'm writing it? Yes. I'm quite selective in general, and if the chemistry isn't there or there isn't a compelling narrative reason for two characters to get together, I'm just not gonna be interested.

By default I prefer writing platonic dynamics over romantic ones, simply because it irritates me when people want to jump straight into writing romantic/nsfw stuff with my characters without any build up or pre-established story. I like to establish a dynamic and get a vibe for how well someone's character portrayal meshes with mine - if there's organic chemistry/tension there, and the other person is also interested, then I'll consider exploring shippy stuff.

5. WHO ARE OTHER CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?

Ekko - Powder/Jinx (I'm open to exploring other ships ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯)

Scar - Zihnah (not really looking to ship him with anyone, but for the right AU/if someone pitched a strong enough idea, I'd consider it)

Joel - no one currently

Mylo - no one currently

6. DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?

Yes. Please don't assume I'm going to be down to write shippy stuff with you just because our characters are canonically together/had some tense delicious moments in canon/you personally really ship them. It's polite to ask first, or gauge interest through sending/tagging me in those bold what applies character dynamic memes.

7. ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?

On a general level, I'm pretty ambivalent ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

If I have a specific AU I'm writing with someone, whether it features a ship or not, I'll be quite excited to talk about it and do memes for it, and it makes my day when I receive a notification that my writing partner has replied.

Sometimes I hyperfixate on certain dynamics and I'll write/read a lot of content related to that, but those dynamics don't need to be romantic ships for me to obsess over how interesting they are.

8. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?

Arcane: Ekko × Powder/Jinx, Vi x Caitlyn, Viktor x Jayce, Caitlyn x Jinx (I have a thing for enemies with sexual tension what can I say 😂)

9. FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?

One - write with me. I'm significantly more receptive to ship with people who I already like writing with, as that gives me the opportunity to evaluate whether our characters have chemistry in their interactions that could be fun to build upon.

Two - ask me! Slide into my DMs with a scenario/plot idea, or send/tag me in one of those shipping interest/character relationship dynamic memes to see what I'm vibing.

So, so glad I discovered your page because it had such good psycho pass content and kougino lives rent free in my head! Why?? aren't they more popular?? Anyway, those posts with quotes tagged of them are absolutely the end of me.

You know, there are so little of them in S3 reunited that who knows is they didn't meet for the first time in dad's old bunker house accidentally and totally had to make up and Kou professed his love? And they've been shagging ever sin-Anyway, I'm writing that fanfic soon

kougino is so underrated. ive always been a fan of people with shared complicated history esp when they live in that really interesting tension of knowing each other the best while also knowing very little at all. i always hc kou and gino as kind of being each other’s unspoken first love that never came to fruition—in the sense that they never explicitly spelled it out but the potential was always there until they were too estranged to acknowledge or really do anything about it. like one of those things where they’re young and getting drunk with each for the first time and in a vulnerable moment gino confesses that he’s never been kissed and kou drunkenly states that he can fix that. gino’s reluctant at first, they get a little too into it, nearly cross a line but kou passes out and then the morning after they pretend it didn’t happen. until it happens a second time. then a third. but they NEVER talk about it once. yknow… basic platonic best friend activities lol

and you are so right. in my ideal kougino world they are definitely friends with benefits and wearily pretending they don’t love each other until they both realize they’re too old and tired to continue playing an insecure young man’s game and are finally honest in a very soft way that’s completely opposite to how they’ve treated each other in the past. the alternative is that they are very toxic and refuse to be vulnerable with each other and i just like that for the angst factor

realistically, im hoping that the upcoming new movie does spend some time exploring their current dynamic. as with many of my ships for this show im not daring to hope for anything explicitly romantic but i do want to see some genuine care in how their characters and relationship are treated. doesn’t have to be much lol i can do plenty with just subtle implications alone but the worst thing the writers can definitely do is paint them as indifferent to the other. i don’t think i can abide by that
