You roll your eyes playfully before turning the burner on low and turn in his arms to look up at him.

“I won’t bother you, I promise. Just let me dance with my beautiful girlfriend.” His mischievous tone makes him sound unconvincing but you move away from the stove anyway and oblige, dancing with him in your shared kitchen.

This ask game

This is non-canon, but this was more of a crack idea that I did discuss with @justawannabearchaeologist and @echoblaze5 that stemmed from the Attack on Prime Oneshot Chapter 2

Optimus had grown...wary of the Survey Corps as of late. He didn't like it. Throughout the whole day, at least every hour, a pair of soldiers would come up to him, tell him a joke of some kind, and when he didn't react, they seemed to lament that he didn't and walked away.

Throughout the whole day, his expectations went from surprised to irritated. Once Sasha and Connie had come up to him in his bipedal mode, he was rather annoyed.

"Is this about actual military work or something else?" Optimus demanded.

"It can be both," Sasha reasoned with a shrug, "I do have a joke for you!"

Optimus nearly grumbled in annoyance. When he had asked them, and anyone else in the Survey Corps for that matter, he was met with nervous laughter or flimsy excuses. He assumed it was a long shot, but he decided to ask Megatron about it. He thought Megatron would give him a response, but the former warlord merely stared at him, drank some energon, and shrugged.

"I've been disqualified. I'm not supposed to talk about it," Megatron proclaimed before walking away.

Optimus felt his optic twitch in response. What the in Allspark was going on?!

Earlier that day

"Okay!" Hanji began as they wrote a list of rules on the chalkboard, "This is our first official 'Optimus smile' competition!"

"That's the best you could come up with?" Jean questioned.

"I don't see you helping me out," Hanji hissed at him, "Now, the goal of this competition is to make Optimus smile by the end of the week! However there are some rules that we all need to follow!"

Hanji slammed their hand onto the chalkboard. "No physical violence. No pain of any kind. Physical or emotional. Puns and clever jokes are the best way to go."

"Why can't we do the other stuff?" Floch asked.

"Optimus will think you are actually hurt, and will do everything to get you back to health," Hanji explained, "Now, since Megatron has known Optimus the longest, he is automatically disqualified from the competition due to his unfair advantage."

"Didn't want to participate." Megatron had crossed the holoform arms.

"Why the hell are you even here?" Levi whispered to himself.

"In addition to that, no one is allowed to get help from Megatron-!"

"I wasn't going to offer help anyway!" Megatron interrupted.

"You will be disqualified if you do!" Hanji shouted at Megatron before addressing their subordinates, "In order for the smile to be valid, you must have a witness with you. I know it’s hard to make Optimus smile, but we need a secondary witness as proof of your claim. We all have one week to make this happens. Whoever wins gets the pot of cash-,"

Hanji gestured to the box of money everyone placed inside "And a week off. Any questions?"

Eren raised his hand. "This isn't going to be like the smiling incident like last time? Where you kept it from him?"

"And dumped a bucket of water over my head for your stupid shit?" Levi reminded in anger.

"No, I will not be dumping water on you like last time." Hanji pointed to Levi, "I've learned my lesson. And I am certain that Optimus will figure out what is going on by the end of today. Now, let the competition begin!"

(Armin was the one who won the competition. He made a book pun unintentionally and it got a chuckle out of the Prime before he slammed his servo over his mouth. Optimus' reaction wasn't intentional, but it shocked everyone and Armin was made the winner. Anyway, 99 and 32 have been asked, but the rest is free game.)

Attack on Titan: Just a Sleepover Party

Summary: In which in the midst of sadness, grief, and duty, there is comfort, healing, and the will to move forward.

Or they are still children who likes stories.

Note: Takes place in Season 1 of the anime, where I get hit with nostalgia of the simpler times.

Female! Squad Leader! Inventor! Reader! and the cadets.

"Can't sleep?"

"Yea." Eren nodded nervously as he saw his superior put down her pencil.

After the last time when he got the opportunity to sleep over at their favourite squad leader’s room with Armin and Mikasa, the cadets of the 104th were curious...no, they were jealous. 

So here he was, helping them get that “golden” opportunity.

Eren glanced back slightly, to see Connie, Jean, Sasha, Mikasa, Armin, Krista, and Ymir, but they weren't there.

"Alright, come on over. Oh and you guys too.”

"Wait, how did you see us?" Many heads pop out from behind the door. 

All of them were in their sleep wear and looked like they really needed some sleep.

"How could I ignore your beautiful head, Connie?" She teased with a playful grin.

Their squad leader was kind and understanding, but dutiful and intelligent. There was no doubt in her leadership and her skills.

"Shut up." There were a few chuckles and now, an embarrassed boy.

"Alright y'all, you are all invited to a sleep party. Effective immediately!"

“Yes ma’am!” They saluted playfully.

"But where do we sleep?" Sasha spoke up, and yawned as she clutched her pillow.

"Are we bothering you? You know, I didn't think we'd actually do this. I mean, we're old enough now-"

"Shut up Jean, it's not like you didn't want to see her super bed." Eren snapped back.

"What did you say? You little baby-"

"Guys, stop it. We're in the seniors quarters and-" Krista tried to break them up.

"Guys shut up already." Ymir cut in and scoffed.

"Hurry and get in before the midget captain wipes the floor with me." They rushed in excitedly. 

After all, they rarely get to go into the senior offices, much less personal rooms.

The room was rather simple. 

An office desk, chair, a couple of shelves for files and books. Then there was a closet, and a door leading to the personal washroom. 

Finally, their squad leader’s bed was a normal bed, though there was nothing surrounding it besides a lamp. It was night time, so how was his room so bright-

"Woah! How did you do that?" The kids asked excitedly.

"She uses energy to light up the room. Using 'electricity'." Armin explained and the others gapped. 

"But only for a few hours before it goes out again."

"Yep! Still working on it. I wanna see if we can find another energy source that can provide light. Because honestly, candle light and torches just can't cut it. There has to be other stuff to give us light!" She grinned before he walked to his bed.

If squad leader Hange was obsessed over titans, their squad leader was obsessed over human innovation and invention.

She wanted to improve the quality of life for people inside the walls. 

Crafty and jolly, she is one of the lights of humanity. 

"Anyway, enough of my rant. Watch this." She stood up from her chair and away from her “annoying” paperwork. 

Then, she pulled a handle under her bed.

Another bed rolled out smoothly. 

On both sides of the main bed.

"Woah!"

"Amazing!"

"How did you do that?" Every one but the trio gapped and fussed over the new discovery.

Eren looked highly smug as he was one of the few first people that got to see her cool inventions. 

Last time, he got to play with the slime bomb! He got to test it out in the field, and managed to stop a running titan in place!

How did their squad leader manage to create such a useful tool? Eren will never know. 

"Damn, why didn't you tell us earlier? Eren, Mikasa and Armin?" They looked away guiltily (but smugly). 

"Who cares! I want to sleep!" They jumped onto the massive bed, but even so, it was still a little but too small to fit all of them.

Even so, they relished in the peaceful moment and enjoyed the comfortable bed.

"Squad leader, are you not going to sleep?" Mikasa asked, and then glanced at her work.

Blueprint now replaced the tedious work on her desk, with words and lines and shapes that Mikasa doesn’t understand.

But she could see her writing about her ideas on potential light sources, inventions to better the lives in the Underground, and weapons to kill titans. 

"I'll sleep later. For now though...want to hear a story?"

"We're not children!"

"Whatever horse."

"Hey!"

"Shush, this is from the black market." She whispered cheekily with a finger to her lips.

"What?!"

"Shush! I found this and I'm keeping it!" The squad leader says stubbornly.

"Wait-"

"Armin! Isn't this like your book?" Indeed, it was the book about the outside world.

"Where did you find it?"

"Uh, on the ground behind rubble?" She handed the book to Eren and Armin. They flipped the book over, and found that it was indeed his book. They breathed out a sigh of relief and joy.

"Amazing! You have a book on the outside world!"

"Guys quiet down before people come."

"Isn't it illegal?"

"Not if you hid it genius."

"You trust us?"

"Of course Princess."

"Hey! Don't call Krista that! Only I can call her nicknames!"

"Ymir!"

"Guys, be quiet already!"

"You're yelling too potato girl!"

"Who wants to hear another story from the black market then-"

"Squad leader, where do you get these books?

"Black market, duh.” Who would have guessed that a Survey Corp squad leader would go to the market so often? 

"Cool! Let me see!" Eren took the book and others hoard around it.

"'Two Kingdoms'...what's this one about?" She smiled, and Eren handed her the book. 

"That one is about two kingdoms at war." When the children looked interested and settled down, their squad leader prepared to read.

"Well, the story is about how two different kingdoms hate each other and how each side come up with war strategies to kill their opponents. It's a dark book, but full of action and it takes place in-"

"Woah what's that?!"

"It's a flying thing!"

"'Airplane'?"

“It’s a flying vehicle, where humans can travel in the air.” 

“What is this? A ‘car’?” 

“Yea, it's a faster way to travel on land, rather than using horses.”

The QnA session went on for a bit, where their squad leader answered each and one of them to her knowledge, which made her seem like the most intelligent person in the world. 

Despite the new discoveries they made today, it almost seems like their squad leader knew of these long ago, perhaps she read many similar books before and spurred her to create similar things. 

The squad leader’s voice was soft and stable throughout the entire story, making many of the children fall asleep relatively quickly. 

Mikasa watched everyone slowly drift into their dreams whereas the senior just stretched and gave each of them a pat. Mikasa raised a brow and accepted her pat, but watched her go back to her desk.

Mikasa stopped her. 

"Mikasa? You’re not going to sleep?"

"Squad leader. You need to rest too." 

"I'll sleep after you all sleep, alright? Just need to finish some things up."

Mikasa sheepishly nods and glances at her work. A blueprint of another weapon, where it shot out sharp projectiles to stun or slow down titans. 

"Good night."

"Night."

The next morning, the cadets woke up from the jealous yells of other cadets. 

As well as squad captain Levi.

"You brats! Get up and clean! It's fucking filthy!"

"Yes sir! Yes sir!" Then Levi grabbed their squad leader by the ear. 

"Oh shit oh shit oh shit-"

"Oi! And what do you think you're doing?”

“H-Hey man, how about I make that super cleaner vacuum machine for you?” Levi stopped for a moment and looked at her for a moment while she had her hands in the air in surrender.

All the cadets held their breath. 

“You better make two.” 

"Yes sir! Yes sir!" She saluted, gaining a jab to her stomach, making her tumble over.

It was just another day in the Survey Corps.

   It was all getting to be too much. You could feel everything.

        So it had finally caught up to you. The reality, the way everything truly was. You were a Section Commander, training young Scouts and helping Hange around with the squads. Especially now, waiting to take down Eren and the rumbling.

        There was not a moment for you to breathe, one where you could think about positive thoughts. It had been consuming you for the past couple of years and now that it was happening, it seemed like your insides were shrinking and your heart was beating quickly.

       You stand up from your place, placing the blanket under your arm. You look around, taking it all in. Hange was sleeping against Levi’s makeshift cart, Mikasa and Armin against each other, Jean and Connie sleeping against a wall, all of them, asleep as if the world wasn’t crumbling outside.  

        You watched them grow, and you made sure they became the best they could be. They were a part of you, and now you had to fight for them because you wanted what was best for them. You close your eyes, hands starting to shake a little. You peek at Hange once more, making sure they were asleep.

      Your clothed feet padded through the small hallway, quiet whimpers leaving your mouth. What if you couldn’t save them? What if you couldn’t stop Eren in time? Would Annie have to live with the fact that her father died? Would Reiner have to see his mother die? 

        You couldn’t let that happen, ever. You were not going to make these kids suffer for something this awful. You had to give your life to fight the titans off for them, you had to. They gave you their energy, time and love, and now it was time to pay off your love for them.

        Your legs gave in, head falling into your hands. You were now far from the room, in a dark hallway lit by oil lamps along the walls. “Oh my god.” You cried, placing a hand on the floor. Nothing felt real at this point. What if they died? They would die for Paradis, but at what cost? Would they be another dead body on a cart?

      “No.” Your eyes widened, hot tears running down your face. You clawed at your ears, trying to stop the loud thoughts. “Please.” You begged whatever was out there to keep them safe. Keep Hange safe. The love of your life, your purpose. You couldn’t let them die. It would be in your hands, everyones death was in your hands.

        You couldn’t move, or breathe. Your stomach felt like it was twisting, and your mouth was dry. It felt like you were hot and cold at the same time and the room was spinning. You tried to focus on the stone floor, but the lines turned red and it felt like you were slipping. Your nails dragged across your face, heavy sobs leaving your mouth. 

       Someone grabbed your shoulders, kneeling next to you. You yelped, backing up against the wall. You closed your eyes, trying to wipe away the tears. “Are you okay?” Someone spoke. That warm voice that you could recognize anywhere. “Hange.” You opened your eyes, mouth gaping a bit.

       “What are you doing here? Are you okay?” Hange sat in front of you, wiping your eyes, concern plastered all over their face. “I-i’m fine. Oh my god i’m sorry, I thought you were asleep.” Your shaky hands grab theirs. “I was, but you were gone and i got worried.” 

        Hange kiss your hand softly, sitting next to you. “Talk to me.” They whisper, pressing their lips against each of your fingers, repeating their actions until your hands no longer shook violently. “T-they don’t deserve any of this. Mika, Armin, Jean, Connie, all of them. Even Reiner and Annie, after what they put us through. They are kids. If I have to give my life for them, so screw it. I will.” You hiccup, wiping a couple stray tears. 

      “Don’t say that. We are all going to make it. These kids are fighting for what they think is right, you don’t owe anyone anything.” Hange slid your ring up and down your finger. The ring they gave you before you became Section Commander, just when you two were leaving the Cadet Corp. for the Scout Regiment.You two went way back, starting out as young friends to lovers. 

       You lean your head against their shoulder, following their breathing rhythm. “I don’t know what to do.” You mutter. “We go with whatever happens. We cannot plan anything, but you cannot blame yourself for our lost comrades and tell me these kids lives are in your hands.” Hange held your face in their hands, rubbing their thumbs on your damp cheeks. 

      “What we do from this point forward is for us. We will not let this genocide happen, and none of this is for you to blame.” They press their lips against yours. “Are you okay now?” Hange pushed your hair back, kissing your forehead. “Somewhat.” “Let’s go back to bed, come sleep with me this time. I’ll have someone else go on guard.” Hange helped you up, wrapping the blanket around you. “Don’t cry anymore.” They kiss your lips once more, before heading back to the cold room.

      “I love you and nothing bad is ever going to happen to us.” Hange stopped you before you two entered the room. You take a deep breath, nodding. “I love you too.” You hug Hange. “Now c’mon before my sleep rubs off.” They place a hand on your lower back, leading you back towards the makeshift bed.

Hello Mika I’m here with a new request I cooked up today (sorry this one is long). Can I request a Giant!Human!Eren x Shy!Fem!Reader fluff and comfort one-shot where one of Hanges experiments on Eren accidentally caused him to turn into a 15m giant and him causing him to lose all of his clothes leaving him stark naked much to Y/Ns embarrassment and causing her to blush.

Second, Hange, Mikasa, Levi, Armin, and Moblit set off to find Eren and cure and Y/N follows them, but Eren stops her by grabbing the hem of the cute gown she wore begging her to stay in the meadow with him so he’s not alone and places her on his chest so she doesn’t leave him as Y/N hides in her blanket and pillow she brought along with still shy of the situation until Eren tells her to come out of her hiding spot before their sweet moments together and having their play date by playing hide and seek and watching the clouds for the next several days with Eren stuck in giant size and Mikasa occasionally checking in on them by bringing food, pillows, and an extra blanket in case Y/N gets cold.

Later at night as Eren and Y/N are about to get settled to go to sleep, Eren asks Y/N if he’ll ever change back to his normal size and she reassured him to be patient with Hange and the others since it’ll take a while to develop a cure for him before giving Eren a hug and kiss before he placed her on his chest with a pillow resting on her head and pulling the blanket on top of her. In the middle of the night Eren had a nightmare about his giant form causing harm on his friends, the scouts expedition becoming a failure, and accidentally killed Y/N due to not being in his actual Titan form which caused him to wake up screaming and Y/N trying to calm him down. Then Eren began to cry tearfully telling Y/N he didn’t want to be stuck in giant form and he felt that he’s a burden to her before continuing to cry more, but Y/N reassured him that he’s not a burden and even if he ends up in giant form permanently and never turn back into his normal size she’ll always love him and will continue to stay by his side before giving him a kiss and rubbed his chest to calm him down until they both fell asleep for the rest of the night until the next morning they continue on with more of their play dates in the meadow.

Finally several days later, Y/N woke up to find Eren back to his normal size after noticing him wrapping his arms around her to cuddle before pulling the blanket up to cover his naked body. Then Eren woke up to find himself back to normal and him and Y/N sat up and placed the blanket around their bodies to watch the scenery in the meadow and listening to the sounds of nature while holding hands before Hange, Mikasa (she even carried Erens clothes along too), and the others returned with a cure in their hands? BANG! A loud bang ringed through your ears, in front of you your friend Armin eyes were as wide like he had just seen a ghost. Curious about what’s going on, you turned around to see Eren 15 meters tall and he’s not in his Titan form.

“Woah he’s as tall as his titan form!” Hange yells out excitedly.

“Thank god he has all his clothes on. Come on, hurry up and make a cure four eyes.” Levi said.

“WHAT? NO WE NEED TO DO EXPERIMENTS ON HIM FIRST! THE CURE CAN WAIT!” Hange exclaimed as Levi dragged them away with the others following behind.

You follow behind but suddenly Eren’s hand came in front of you, blocking your way, “Can you umm, stay here with me? I don’t really wanna be by myself it’ll get boring.”

“Sure, of course!” You say as he moves his hand to grab you and places you on his chest. You begin to get nervous because you’re not sure what to say and you start hiding in his chest, you come out after hearing Eren say “Hey do you wanna watch the clouds together? Since there’s nothing else to do, maybe later we can watch the sunset.” You nod your head and smiled.

Several days had passed and Mikasa occasionally checks in on you guys and brings food and water for both of you and blankets for you so you don’t get too cold.

Later at night you were sitting on Eren’s left hand, gazing at the stars. “Do you think I’ll get back to my normal size again?” Eren says.

“Don’t you worry..Hange is really intelligent so they’ll make a cure soon, just be patient dear.” You say looking at him with a soft smile as you see him blush at the name.

“Also, real quick, can you bring your left hand over to your face?” You questioned and Eren did so, bringing you up to his face, you give him a small kiss on the tip of his nose causing the blush on his cheeks to redden. He then lays down on his back and places you on his chest to go to sleep.

Screaming, crying, pleading, and begging for mercy, is all he could hear. Eren opened his eyes to see all of his friends bruised and bloodied, clinging on to dear life. He looked at you and tears began to spill from his eyes and fall from his cheeks as he saw your lifeless body laying there.

You woke up to Eren shifting around and mumbling to himself in his sleep, you assumed that he was having a nightmare so you woke him up and his eyes shoot open, his breathing uneven. “Eren, Eren, it’s okay I promise I’m right here with you.”

“Dammit I don’t want to be in this form forever.” He lifts his hand to wipe the tears rolling down his cheek.

“You know, even if you’re in this form permanently I’ll still love you unconditionally and I will continue to be by your side here with you forever.” You say comforting him, he moves his hand to wrap around you gently, providing you warmth as you both fell asleep.

A few more days went by and you woke up to find Eren back to normal, you smile as you cuddle into his side. Eren wakes up shortly and wraps his arms around you and sits up with you still at his side, adjusting your blanket to wrap around you more so you won’t get cold since it quite chilly outside. You both watch the nice scenery together and listen to the peaceful sounds of nature while holding each others hands. You silently wish this moment will never end.

In my head, the former HQ used to be someone else castle until it was passed down by the government to the scouts and then they moved because it's too far away and, as they say in the manga, it doesn't have water system so it was really impractical. In Hg, the scouts had moved to the new headquarters not that long ago so they are still trying to keep the former HQ in somehow good conditions and well kept. After the fall of Wall Maria, there wasn't enough budget to do that and they abandon it until they used it again with Eren. Therefore, the place isn't that much rotten when Levi and Y/N go to look after it. They, in particular, make use most of the "old service/staff/servants side" that the scouts used to use as the "higher-ups' kitchen". A more packet and less big kitchen and dinning room so the higher ups can cook etc. without interrupting the cadets working in the bigger kitchen and mess hall that's meant to be for a lot of people working at the same time. Therefore, since it's the old service place, it's slightly deeper in the ground almost as a basement? but not completely. This is because it would help to keep food better refrigerated.

Once the storm began, Y/N and Levi agree on move to that side of the castle because is smaller and easier to keep warm. That's why I added the mattress on the floor and all the clothe stuff lmao. And before you wonder, most of that stuff is Y/N's ... she overpacked lmao.

I wanted to add this idea of crowded because there's stuff from the scouts that they left before going, stuff that they stored for living there a couple of months, stuff Y/N brought etc.

The other door in the living area, gives to the open hall that's part of the more "former castle" that had a double sides stairs that give to the rooms on top, before all this, Levi and Y/N were sleeping in one of those rooms. Mostly like the ones we see in season 1. They use the bathroom up there. Once they moved down, they tried to go only for pure necessities., to avoid losing the calefaction. There's not bathroom down, the services sleeper somewhere else so there's no real living area in the castle.

I tried to add all "luggage" in cute pastel colors because most of them are from Y/N... and the ones who aren't (Levi's) were either packed inside a borrowed luggage of Y/N or she shared him something like the sheets lol So everything is quite girly

I genuinely cannot tell if he would be a morning person or not. Maybe mid-morning. Probably not a rise-and-shine at 6am kind of guy, but is up by at least 10:00am every day. He likes to bike. And really likes when you go on bike rides with him. As long as you both are on your own bikes, you learned the hard way that tandem biking isn’t cut out for you.

Not sure why, but I think she’d be a pretty decent artist if she tried. That trend of doing glass paintings on TikTok? I think she’d be into that, and would plan out the whole thing as a date with you.

Keeps up with all your favorite shows to talk about or watch them with you. Sometimes she’ll purposely miss a few episodes so that she can spend the night and marathon them with you.

Likes to stay in and drink cheap wine and just watch or talk about whatever with you. You could watch a terrible show just to laugh and comment on it the entire time and she would be so happy. 

Doesn’t like to sit down on public transportation, and honestly would rather you didn’t either, but she’s not going to stop you from taking a seat. If you’re sitting, she’ll stand in front of/over you, and always keeps wire headphones long enough for you to share music that way.

The most insufferable human when she’s sick and she knows it. She hates being sick. And she knows you shouldn’t be around her or else you might get sick but she also just wants you to hold her. (You do).

Likes to sleepover at your place. Talks with you about your day while you lay down. Always smells good. Very cuddly when sleepy. 10/10.

Hates the act of doing her laundry, but likes doing it with you. Lowkey starts buying and using the same detergent and fabric softener as you because it makes her smell like you.

Gets very embarrassed if you kiss her in public. Very red in the cheeks, it’s kind of cute, so I wouldn’t blame you if you did it on purpose.

JEAN KIRSTEIN

Jean is… quite smart, if you ask me. Or, at the very least, analytical, which can be applied to a variety of academic settings.

The only thing is, he’s incredibly lazy about it. He wants to do well in school, and can definitely pull himself together for a midterm or an exam; but is horrible at keeping pace with all his other work and assignments on a regular basis.

He also can’t sit still, which is why even though he is very kind and chivalrous and brings many snacks to your study sessions, he is also competing for number one worst study partner. Right next to Eren and Sasha.

Gets pouty when you tell him you don’t want to study with him. “But… but… but I brought snacks! And bubble tea!” “Yes, but you also have the attention span of a rabbit, Jean.”

At the end of the day he understands… that doesn’t mean he’s not going to be bitter about it LOLOL. It’s fine, you can make it up to him by hanging out with him afterwards.

Is, like, classically trained in at least two instruments because his mom put him in lessons as a child. He used to hate it growing up, and he doesn’t practice much now, so he never talks about it.

One day you happen to mention something about comparing two songs, telling him they remind you of each other but you don’t know exactly why or why, and very nonchalantly he’s like, “They sound similar because they share the same major chord in the chorus, and they’re in the same key.” 

And you just kind of blink at him like, “Okay, Beethoven. How. How did you know that.”

Once you realize he can, like, actually play the piano and violin really well you’re always begging him to play for you. It doesn’t happen often—it’s not like he owns a violin anymore and he certainly doesn’t have a grand piano in his shitty college apartment—but sometimes you sneak into the music room when it’s empty and he’ll play something for you.

He’s a romantic at heart, so he doesn’t mind, and if anything kind of enjoys you watching him play. It’s much better than playing for random parents in a recital. You’re dead if you ever mention it to any of his friends though.

Also not a frat boy, but definitely likes to party. Everything with reason. If he crushed a midterm on Thursday, he deserves to throw back a few beers on Friday night, you know?

Touchy when he’s drunk. Well, touchier than normal; he’d be the most affectionate out of every one on a regular basis. But he’s touchy and messy when he’s drunk, so he’s all over you.

“The giant was bound to do that. Thanks Armin. You can go.” He dismissed him and shuts the door as he holds Y/n. “Brat, you need to be strong. You can’t cry for everything, alright?” He speaks to her and looks down to see her fast asleep. He rolls his eyes and tucks her into his bed.

Y/n started to fit in nicely. She loved her Aunt Hange and Uncle Erwin and even warmed up to Mike. But everyone in the Corps realized that she was only smiley and laughing if she had her protector with her. By helped, she wrote squiggles. Levi even caught himself hating being apart from her. He always worried about her in his own way.

throws his feet up on the coffee table and shit, doesn't wipe off his feet when he comes into the apartment, leaves cups out, just does not pick up after himself. eats the last bit of your food but gets mad when you do the same to him, uses your extra toothbrushes, just overall leaves a mess.

another character based question - how do you feel about mikasa? a lot of fans dont like her, im curious about how you feel! - armin anon

Hellooooo Armin Anon. OMG it’s been forever since I had the time to sit down and do a proper meta, and I apologize.

First off, I finished the manga!!! (So, spoilers ahead for anyone else reading this.) I had to lie down after reading 139. It’s a tremendous story and I’m still taking it all in. The set pieces and personal/emotional stakes of everything that happens is just astounding. If it’s one thing Isayama does good, it’s the gut-wrenching personal anguish that underlies the action. I’m absolutely floored. My favorite bit was probably the timey-wimey stuff in Paths and Eren. That blew my freaking mind. But onto Mikasa!!

A Cruel Yet Beautiful World

I remember way back when I started the anime that I started liking Mikasa first out of the group. I liked how sullenly silent and no-nonsense she was, and I liked her loyalty to Eren. Her emotion, especially when Eren died in Trost, was palpable and terrifyingly beautiful. Her grief was incredibly realistic––rushing off with a death wish that even she couldn’t succumb to in the end, because of the drive to fight that she got from Eren. In a world like SNK, her relentlessness breaking through her grief was incredibly moving. And her philosophy is basically the driving theme of SNK: “This is a cruel world, and yet so beautiful.”

This is the same moral message she gives Eren when he can’t find the strength in him to fight Annie––and gives him that warm, understanding, inscrutable smile that allows him to finally accept his own monsters, fight Annie, and save her and Armin. (One of my favorite panels of her from the manga, actually.) Mikasa is basically the first character we meet who embodies this contradictory morality, which grows to engulf SNK and other characters as well (Levi, Reiner, and Armin especially come to mind). Which could be why I was drawn to her at the start, since the complex moral outlook of SNK was the primary reason I fell hard for this story.

(And gosh, it’s tragic to realize that it’s teaching moments like the scene above that made Eren into the person who could influence his own child self to murder, the person who could wipe out so much of humanity, the person who could take Ymir’s challenge to free her by destroying the love of the person who cared the most about him. I’m still processing yo.)

Acker-parallels

I started really analyzing Mikasa when I had to defend her from a friend of mine who accused her of resenting Levi (for beating up Eren) and that’s why she attacked him so violently in the RTS serumbowl. Because of my research into rebutting that, a lot of my affection for Mikasa now comes in seeing the little ways in which she cares and trusts other people, including Armin, Levi, Gabi, and Jean. And her quiet sensibility that goes beyond her love and protectiveness of Eren.

With Levi in particular, I find a lot I like about her. Because you can definitely see her annoyance at him, but she also trusts him more than anyone else in the Corps outside of Armin. After Levi’s violent encounter with Historia, she was the only one who implicitly trusted Levi’s judgement, backing up Armin’s more reasoned logic. She sees beyond her own emotions and even moral feelings and realizes the world is cruel enough that sometimes people have to do dark things to help others and survive.

This is very much the same statement Levi made to the 104th when he had asked them to follow Erwin’s orders when the commander’s plans were questionable on the surface: “Do you trust him? Those dumb enough to say yes… come with me.” These two understand each other on a moral level, and they ask for their comrades’ loyalty without demanding it, because they each know that everyone’s conscience is their own.

There’s a clear parallel between Mikasa and Levi, not only because of their Ackerman heritage and sensibilities (loyal to a fault to their chosen person, impossibly strong, quiet and grim), but their frustration when they cannot protect the people they are responsible for. They both know they are the strongest around, and if they cannot fulfill on that power, a lot of people will die.

There are many moments in which Mikasa puts aside her personal feelings to do her soldierly duty, from leaving Eren to help with the evacuation of Trost to leaving Eren and Armin to fight the Colossal Titan alone in Shigonshina.

And then there’s the fact that Levi’s the one who could break past Mikasa’s headspace and distraction so that she can do the right thing. He understands her strong emotion, he respects it, but he also knows when that has to be put aside for the greater good. But he doesn’t put her down for having those emotions, either.

Strength from Eren, Humanity from Armin

Mikasa’s love and loyalty to Eren challenges her tremendously after the timeskip and her sorrow at Eren’s change is what really stands out to me about her character in the Marley arc. The absolute grief in her eyes when she tells Eren what he’s done is devastating, and it shows just how much goodness and compassion she does have.

And yet she longs to understand Eren, to trust him, to believe there can be something redeeming, and not merely jaded and tired, in what he taught her so many years ago––to fight, to win, to live.

There’s such a difference between these same words said here by Mikasa, so many years later, after so much heartbreak, to the anger and flame that were in them when she first heard them, back when she realized that this was the way of the world. That death and killing happens in the natural world everyday and that’s how you survive. That the world is both cruel and beautiful.

And yet as the years wore on, as Mikasa grew closer to others, found purpose in protecting others, sought a life with Eren… as she wandered further into the forest of life and society and relationships, she lost some of that simple injunction... to live is to fight, to fight is to win. She, like so many of the 104th and the others on this journey, found that it’s not enough to just fight and live and be satisfied. We really want it all to mean something, to have our actions be redemptive. To allow ourselves to believe that we do what we’re doing because we’re not just saving ourselves, but saving others, “saving the world” like Yelena points out (in the forest therapy session pfff). And it’s that drive for something bigger in our actions that grieves her so much with Eren, because as she wants her own actions to be fundamentally good and selfless, she wants his actions to be moral as well.

So while Eren is the person that frustrates Mikasa and motivates her to become stronger and braver than she ever was, Armin is the person who humanizes Mikasa and allows her the space to be gentle and vulnerable. She comforts Armin, confides in him, puts her faith in him, and puts her life in his hands.

She trusts Armin with Eren, and she values Armin’s intellect and compassion, qualities she doesn’t have in nearly as much quantities as he does: “There are only so many lives I can value. And… I decided who those people were six years ago. So... you shouldn’t try to ask for my pity. Because right now, I don’t have time to spare or room in my heart.”

This bit from her confrontation with Ymir and Historia was a defining moment for me with Mikasa. It’s honest and realistic in a way that few of us care to admit about ourselves, and it’s just super chilling and badass coming from her, too. It also shows how much she fights for Armin and Eren both. They are the two people she loves the most in the world, and she never gave up on saving either of them––from death or from themselves.

I’m looking back on Trost now and finding so much irony with the ending to SNK. In Trost, she was the one to give up on Eren, telling Armin that it was hopeless to try to extract Eren’s personality from his Titan form. And yet, like in the end, it’s always been between Armin and Mikasa to try to salvage Eren’s humanity. In Trost, Armin tells Mikasa to leave––to go do what she’s good at (saving lives)––and to entrust Eren to him.

It’s a huge expression of both Mikasa’s trust in Armin, and her belief in Armin’s abilities and friendship for Eren. And in the end, it’s the two of them again debating on if there’s any humanity left in Eren. The bond they share is intimate and deep. With all the military doubting Eren and scheming to take away his Titan (with even Jean and Connie unavailable to them emotionally), it’s only Armin and Mikasa against the world––the only two people who can truly consider Eren’s actions and hold off on judging him. And you can feel their love for him even as they doubt him.

And like back then, it has always been Armin who understands Eren most, the one who recognizes his own evil and Eren’s and finds a redemption in having others stop you, because you cannot stop yourself.

And that’s the thing I really take away from SNK and from Mikasa’s journey, that we all have devils inside us, and yet there is still beauty to be found, within us and in the world––from the natural wonders that Armin dreams of, to the comfort of purpose and companionship that Mikasa has in Eren. Love and wonder is what redeems us of our devils. And yet love itself is complicated, and can turn ugly in its obsession. That giving up that love is what makes the love selfless and beautiful, what absolves us of the selfishness within us. That’s what Mikasa learned. And in the end, she was able to release that love for the good of the world.

So I guess to sum up, I really love Mikasa. I can see why her dogged loyalty to Eren might annoy some fans, but I think there’s a lot more to her than simply that, and in fact, her journey and growth is heart-rending and one of the most symbolic arcs of SNK and fundamental to its entire theme. She’s a badass with a lot of emotion and depth behind her cold mask.
