but i do find it distressing that people will twist seeming innocuous arguments to defend ai like 'oh its ableist to be anti-ai'

what the fuck are you talking about? deaf music composers exist. blind painters exist. there are people who draw with colored pencils held between their toes. people who use up all their spoons finishing a crochet project that took them months. people who have thrown water balloons at canvases to depict what it's like to live with physical, mental, and emotional conditions. people whose shaky line work caused by their chronic fatigue actually emphasizes the emotional tension of their work.

maybe this is an issue of what art is valued--maybe you don't value art that is seen as less skillfull, less intentional when made by disabeld artists. maybe you are talking about that being a larger issue but that isn't resolved by just... letting computers do it instead

who are you talking about when you imply that disabled people cannot create art? who are you to devalue the art that disabled people have already made? like?

and then who are we all to say okay if you can't make something, it's okay to just steal from anyone who can do it? what if i told you generative ai also stole from disabled artists? generative ai is used to replace commissioning artists, including artists who use art commissions for income they cannot otherwise make, as disability makes other employment difficult or outright impossible

Every so often, something happens that sets off a series of interactions that is identical:

Stumble across someone complaining a non-fanfic fanwork is on AO3

Point out AO3 says on its' front page if you're not logged in that it's an archive that will host fanworks, including comics, art, etc.

Get told it's condescending/ableist/racist to say that and there's no possible way they could have known

Reply that it wasn't the intent to be rude, but it does quite literally say in exact words on the front page that the archive is open to non-fanfic fanworks

Sometime, a month to six months later: "Why is fandom so hostile?" says person who screamed at someone else for mentioning it's okay to post fanworks to the fanworks archive. "Why can't you bitches chill? Why doesn't anyone wanna hang out anymore? Why aren't there more fandom Discords? Why don't more people comment on each other's stuff?"

At this point whenever I see someone too dumb to know the archive site with archive in its' name is an archive I block on sight. I know it won't help and someone else in fandom will reblog both the hostile reaction to being informed and the eventual "y fandom not social? y is hobby not social media?" post, but it's at least one less idiot to deal with.

I think in addition to TOS AO3 should have a box you have to check that says "I acknowledge there will be things archived besides fanfics and I promise not to cry and shit myself over it in public, but instead do so under the guidance and care of at least 1 (one) supervising adult while no less than 10 feet away from a computer". I don't think it'd stop people, but I do think it'd be funny.

And for the solar and eclipse feeling about the yelling this happens while dead star and Barron are having a mental breakdown and a panic attack and are pretty much confusing reality with memory. Before this they absolutely had never called eclipse and solar dad or anything of the like, they respected that they didn't want to be called that and they never really wanted to because they know this isn't their dad neither is killcode which is why they kinda leaned more towards sun or moon being more a parent figure. When they are yelling they aren't all there and are panicking and scared. Big reason they run when they come back to themselves is because they realized they yelled that at eclipse/solar and feel horrible because they don't have any of their pain from their dad towards them they don't feel any bad feeling towards them and both dead star and Barron feel horrible for yelling at them. The other is because the family found out, the two have a lot of self hatred because of what they have been forced to become and have the fear that their new family won't accept them because of what they are and like any child afraid they did something wrong by existing they run.

Little background note on why dead star actively never came out is because they believed Barron deserved the chance at a family because they might have dead stars memory of their family but Barron never got the chance for family and thought the sea/mirror family would be there best chance at barron having the family they never really got while dead star felt they already lost there chance at family and feels they don't deserve and new one.

Yepp, they're aware they're having a breakdown, but they're also hurt by this. Emotions are finicky and dumb things. So they're objectively and logically aware Nova didn't mean it, not at them at least, but they still don't really feel all that well. They'd need some time to process it themselves, which is why they'd be more avoidant

Neither family would be particularly happy about not being told the truth, however it's understandable children wouldn't really want to tell there's something wrong. Even if the family is made mostly from SCPs, with Eclipse and Solar both being scientists or ex-scientists, so they'd not have judged here. Sure Moon and Eclipse might ask questions in the Normal SEA fam, and Moon may be curious about what's up in Mirror SEA, but other from that they're more than okay with this.

Even if both families 'scold' them to tell the family things in the future. It wouldn't really be scolding, but I don't exactly have a different word for it. I guess it can be called a serious talk

The families might come up with a plan tho so both kids can have body time, so Barron and Dead Star beware, they'll try to make your lives easier and may fail while attempting so!

Okay let's talk about Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier on the same line together.

Look I love PBandJ as much as the next guy. Jack and Jesp are magical together, but we gotta talk about Jesp and Nico and their stats. Gentle reminder, none of this is to disparage Jack and Jesp together. I truly do think them on a line together is the best hockey around. This is just a focus on what Bratter can do and has done with Nico.

some fun things!

last season, when the entire team was playing their worst, do you wanna know what second best line in the league was through like February 2024....Palat - Nico - Jesp. Seriously. They were the toughest line to play against last season after the an Oilers line htat includes McDavid when they were played together.

the season before that the 22/23 season, the Tatar - Nico - Jesp line was consistently one the top lines in the league at least through December 2022 of that season. Once the Tatar - Nico - Merce line was introduced, then obviously they had themselves a helluva season.

Bratter got his three hundredth career point on a Nico Hischier goal

does anyone remember the Jesper Bratt 32 Thoughts Podcast/Interview where he talks about Jack and he talks about Nico.

back to our god awful last season, do we remember that run of games where Bratter would find Nico with a no look pass and Nico would bury the puck. there was the Rags game and the Senators game.

looking at stats going back to the start of last season and through January of this season, Bratter has more goals, more shots on goal, and more points with Nico in less time on ice than he does with Jack.

what makes Jesp and Nico so good is that its hard for players to play with Nico sometimes because its such a defense first mentality. you're starting in the defensive zone more often than not and you need to be defensively responsible at all times. even with all of that, Bratter is able to produce with Nico and not only is he able to produce he frees up Nico to produce as well.

for example, lots of people have been harping on Timo this season for his "lack of offensive production" when they don't understand that him playing with Nico completely changes how he plays and how he's risen to the occasion of being Nico's linemate, but its clearly affected Timo's offensive output.

Bratter doesn't have that same issue because he and Nico have had this thing figured out since 2017. before there was the Euro line of Jesp - Nico - Timo, there was Pavs (Pavel Zacha) - Nico - Jesp.

arguably, when the season was winding down and without Jack last season, the new and improved Euro line kept us alive in a lot of games and also made some games really fun to watch, remember that Toronto game.

also fun fact! they both hit thirty goals in a season for the first time together in the same season and in the same game.

across the board, in most every single stat, specifically playing 5v5, Bratter is better with Nico than when he plays with Jack. (which again is not to say he's bad with Jack, just that he's fucking good with Jack but he's fucking great with Nico)

the solution is, as I've been saying since 2021, we need to clone Jesper Bratt and have one of him on every single line.

when Nico returns from IR after the break, I'm hoping to see some line shake ups. I want to see more of Bratter with Nico, probably seeing Timo with his own line as well.

also, for us NicoJesp enthusiasts out there. these two have been through coaches, GMs, players, trades, seasons, ups, downs, playoffs, injuries, slumps, everything together. They've both been very vocal about how important the other is to their team, to their game, and to each other. that kind of off ice love and friendship really boosts the on ice stuff.
