the phrase "enemies to lovers" has done irreparable damage to people's ability to talk about relationships in fiction and dare I say romance fiction itself. It's lost all meaning but at the same time has reshaped the meaning and use of well established genre mechanics. like 2 people having a bad first date and kinda resenting each other for it isn't "enemies to lovers". two people having the wrong impression of one another at first is not "enemies to lovers". however, novels and films with these very typical romance plot beats are typically labelled as such. meanwhile, fiction that actually tries to address a romance between characters with opposing beliefs, factions, ideologies, identities, etc is being trivialised in the same category as stories about people who just don't like each other that much at first!!! the flattening of all character conflict into conflict that exists for the sake of making the romance aspect seem more exciting is weak storytelling, and discussing work that often deals with class, race, and gender dynamics in these terms demeans the integrity of the work. tropes were never intended to define stories the way they do now.

that moment when “q!bad” started walking back to eat bobinho whom he murdered but then cc!bbh literally disconnected himself from the server in the middle of him walking and logged back in- with q!bad stumbling on the body with no recollection of what happened. that part is living in my mind rent free. the intentional meta disconnect to show the shift/disconnect of awareness…. crazy

after several months of tracking the solar opposites tag i'm starting to get a similar feeling from the fandom as all those posts about breaking bad where walt is really supportive of jesse's transition

#solar opposites #i mean yeah the found family aspect Is There but like. it is Not an uplifting earnest show 90% of the time lmao #like they are very mean aliens. including to each other. sure they love each other. but they are Comically Evil #im still glad that an adult animated show starring a gay couple can exist with all the outrageous humor of the genre intact #i just dont care for woobifying said gay couple too much lmao. let them be evil freaks!!#also ive never seen a soul on tumblr talk about the wall which has some Genuine Heartfelt Emotion as well #i dont have much to put into words about it myself bc of the complexity but like. it very much exists and has some great storytelling

mha is like an estranged awkward father to me. i try not to make my connection to it obvious but i secretly care a lot about it (sometimes against what i desire) and when ppl talk serious shit about it i get defensive. like yea i understand that it's not the best series writing-wise, it's got a good amount of problems and that its mere connection to me makes me cringefail ... but i'll always find some sort of unexplainable comfort in its arms despite its flaws bc there's still a good amount of it to genuinely enjoy without a constantly ironic state of mind that all media must be critiqued with nowadays and i don't expect anyone to understand this odd relationship but myself

#every time i hear that mha fans are cringe and have bad taste i'm like well yeah. but also hey. watch it #like protecting my pathetic father who does not need protecting but i'll do it anyway bc it just feels like i should #it's not at all a horrible series the way everyone labels it and i think its popularity caused such a societal whiplash #like oh it's mainstream now! time to pick on every flaw it has and reduce it to typical shounen shit #without addressing its actually decent and sometimes stellar aspects #it is not as overwhelmingly enjoyed like certain anime i've gotten into lately but that's ok. i'm fine with that #it's a mid to mid-good series with good characters (with exceptions) and great artwork and ok storytelling #i remember when mha was super praised and considered incredible like 5 years ago .. lol how times change #anyway. just wanted to type this out bc i think mha fans get an unfairly bad rep sometimes for doing nothing all that out of the ordinary #just for having an interest in a not-very-enlightening piece of media #and that kinda sucks #also bc i started watching mob psycho and it's really fucking good LMFAOOOO #bnha #mha #becki rambles about stuff

Something that struck me.

In the new/hidden/joke ending, Lily can't go down the well because she’s thrown out all her materials.

"Does this mean this run was a success?"

"Nah, she still got dressed and left the house."

Lily will always make the choice to help before the player starts to control her.

Lily is dressed and ready when the player begins the game. There is no other option. There is no way to call for help, no way to leave unless she's tried at least every length of rope, failed the test at least 10 times..

No matter what images of the gruesome deaths (that the player leads her into) remain in the back of her mind, the choice she makes will always be the same. A choice the player doesn’t get to make: get up, get dressed, and try to help the person in the well.

went ahead and watched the whole of jenjortsu kaisen

then, not believing my eyes, went ahead and read bits of the manga

but it was true... the writing really was hokey...

i mean, JJK has its good & great moments... but i did get tired from being spoonfed all the lore and magic system shenanigans (and backstories!!!!) during the fight scenes

i do get the point of it. on the one hand, without explanation, some scenes would feel confusing. on the other hand, if every other scene depends on a nebulous storyteller explaining to us every single move, then why not write a book... why choose a visual media, if you're not willing to come up with anything, which could be explained visually

a lot of shounen media can get to similar levels of over-explanation, but JJK is nothing BUT explanation of current events. it's hard to tell, where the line between action and explanation truly stands. the whole story feels like a recap of another story as a consequence

too bad, bc some of the scenes and fights have the potential to be emotionally charged and exciting, but they are greatly diluted with characters becoming sentient wiki-pages the moment anything out of the ordinary happens

#i liked the fight between yuji and choso #but the moment where a storyteller began explaining the mechanisms of blood diluting ... i completely shut down #it wouldnt have been so bad in a vacuum #but in a show where every single fight is also filled with similar minutes-long explanations of how them powers work #naw man. boring as hell #the only really truly good fight was between sukuna and the mahoraga was good. cus they both were mostly fucking silent during the scene #and the animation was stellar #im mostly disappointed with this show because it is the kind of a show i would usually enjoy #but its also mixed with the aspects of the fighting genre which i simply cannot stand at all. eh well

honestly i think they need to stop making reboots and live remakes not because they’re bad but because they’re often dead in the water before they even air and met with THE harshest criticism that no one will ever give them a chance

#i think we’re in an interesting age where reboots are still being made #close to the original source as they were before #well actually they’re a decade closer on average than before but still #i think the issue is aside from cgi storytelling and movies are on similar par as they were 20 years ago #compared to movies made in the 60s then rebooted in the 90s had evolved in certain film making aspects #as well as the spread of these things are more regularly distributed and talked about so it doesn’t seem as old or out of touch as before #but like honestly live action reboots are not as awful as people often say #and the elements changed are for a new story and that’s not bad #it’ll never be the exact same as the original and that’s okay!#and this is about two very specific remakes but honestly it’s about all of them! give things a chance! don’t discount it because if your #previous expectations and don’t be haters for no reason like 😭😭#three examples actually #anyway #eris: text

other early buffy bi-coding includes: both her heart & spirit being initially coded as gay/bisexual (the writers weren’t sure which till tara came into the picture, & according to a semi-recent article, of which label pretty much until willow came out) & were intended as such, as the writers always knew one of them was going to come out.

#buffy summers #btvs #this is why i don’t consider the use of willow (a lesbian) to convey elements of buffy’s (a bisexual) sexuality biphobic whereas i sort of #do when that lens is applied to faith. in willow’s case her lesbianism is important like i cannot understate that but the writing choice #itself was influenced by the notion on part of the creators that willow being written as bisexual was the original intent & they changed #their minds because the lesbian representation was important & they felt with the way people thought of bisexuals it would make willowtara #get taken less seriously. so until willow came out she was very much a bi-coded character (STILL A LESBIAN & STILL MEANS HER & OZ WAS COMP #AS SOON AS THAT WAS CONFIRMED)#up until she came out- and it was largely if not entirely that before that point (bar the coming out scene) where she is used in any major #way to convey that aspect of sexuality with buffy- it becomes more general in terms of paralleling relationship struggle after that point #so willow being bi-coded & willow being used as a buffy sexuality figure were near entirely overlapping which negates the view of #bisexuality genuinely being part straight part gay rather than having to exist in dual spaces due to the way sexuality is dichotomized #also shout out to willow’s lesbianism for still retroactively working very well as a narrative way to convey that dual space even before the #choice to definitively make her such was made. her complicated lesbianism does so much for the themes girlie is carrying.#like a lot of people complain about that choice because of the fact we later got confirmation that it was made for reasons which were i #inconsiderate to both bisexuals & lesbians but ultimately willow as a lesbian works better overall than willow as a bisexual on a #storytelling level to me based on how sexuality in particular is ultimately positioned in the story by the end of s7 #like when i talk about pre-coming out willow being bi-coded it isn’t to detract from her present lesbianism or say she should be bi- that’s #flat out lesbophobic & i don’t fuck with it- it’s just acknowledging a reality that influenced how she was written prior to coming out 100%#where as with faith that’s not present especially because she is fully meant to represent buffy (a bisexual’s) sexuality rather than any #sort of dual space struggle- she (darkly) mirrors buffy’s rather than playing a role in it #which then (to me) does start to play into the half straight half gay idea when considering again that she represents buffy’s sexuality #specifically the repressed aspect is positioning a bisexual’s repressed sapphic attraction as lesbian rather than… repressed bisexual #*ie positioning #attraction. like especially considering eliza said she thinks faith swing both ways it kinda does make me uncomfy & feels really reductivist #which is part of why i plan to make that post #blah blah people are entitled to their headcanons. in context the headcanon kinda has a biphobia issue when ignoring faiths bi-coding & word #of saint paul confirmation on top of her narrative positioning irt sexuality that’s all i’m saying

Hello K and happy belated STS!

So I've been thinking about this for a while because I *know* this has happened on multiple occasions. Definitely in Something Wicked, and at some point I'd like to list everything that changed from my original idea for Those Horrid, Horrid Things (though some of that is characters misbehaving and some is suggestions or inspiration from others).

I've been having a lot of The Friendly Visitors brainrot, though, and also a lot of Leech brainrot, so I'll talk about him, because I think this counts:

TFV goes back to a story idea I had when I was, like, 17. And Leech initially was a cis woman who just, like, happened to wear men's clothing and serve as a goon in this vampire gang and never went by a feminine name (which is, of course, totally valid). But around a decade later I pulled out the initial draft, read a section from Leech's perspective, and was just like "this is a man. This is a trans man." And that was that.

so what are your thoughts on the jojo myth 🗣🤔🎤🎤

I basically rlly like how Araki keeps emphasizing that jjba is a visual story to him, his character designs stand out a lot and his comments on the jojo aesthetic kinda encourage you to read the visual of the joestars and co. as a diegetic element as well i.e. they do not only look eccentric to the reader, but to in-universe characters as well. if you pay attention to the background characters you’ll notice that most do look very normal and I am convincedddd they look at anasui dio etc. and think they look weird as hell because as Araki says, his characters are very very specific people that are bound to their very very specific time and place and it’s kind of impossible to place them outside of their context, which is why I’m not really upset about a LOT of major characters dying, it’s like they exist just to tell this story/be part of a bizarre (😂) story and as soon as that is done? they cease to exist and become part of the myth and thus this eternal past, there simply is no tangible future for a lot of these people they are not intended to be normal people they were doomed from the start because their nucleus is the mythical!!!
